How to pack a refrigerator for shipping?

When moving house, it is important to take all valuable and useful things with you. Of household appliances, special attention is paid to the transportation of the refrigerator. To deliver it whole and in good order, you need to take care of the correct packaging and take into account the manufacturer’s recommendations for transporting a specific model.

Basic rules

Depending on the configuration, the refrigerator can be up to 2 meters high and weigh at least 80 kg. Usually 2 people are involved in moving such items. A special trolley helps to optimize their work. If the refrigeration unit does not enter the elevator, it is carefully lowered and raised up the flights of stairs using rigging belts.

These devices must not be transported on their side. In the car, they should be properly installed in a vertical position. Therefore, a van with a sufficiently high body and reliable fasteners is required for transportation. It is better to entrust all work on the transportation of such goods to professionals. But you can prepare the unit for the trip on your own.

Preparatory work

Preparing refrigeration equipment for a long or short move follows the same principle:

1. Disconnect the device from the power supply.
2. We take out all products. For transportation, we put perishable food in a refrigerated bag, the rest in boxes. If a large-scale move is planned, and there are several boxes, be sure to sign them.
3. If the refrigerator provides for defrosting, perform it. In this case, it is better to start preparation the day before transportation. Then the internal elements will have time to dry.
4. Remove all accessories, shelves, trays and drawers from the cells. Wash and dry well before packaging.
5. Remove magnets and other existing decor.
6. Thoroughly wash and dry all accessible surfaces of the machine.
7. If the model is oversized and difficult to pass through the doorway, remove the protruding handles or the doors themselves.

Time to pack

Once prepared, the refrigerator and all accessories must be carefully packed. Glass shelves can be packed separately with 3-ply cardboard sheets between them. Then wrap with bubble wrap, additionally protect with cardboard and fix with tape.

Boxes, trays and other accessories are usually left inside, fixed with paper tape. We put the refrigerator out and put it in such a way as to provide free access to it from all sides. To fix the compressor, tighten the transport bolts. If they are not there, you will have to fix the compressor in another way.

More about the compressor

In most household models, the compressor is located at the bottom and is protected by a sealed metal casing. To reduce vibration and noise during operation, manufacturers install compressors on springs. If the refrigerator is transported correctly – in an upright position – the springs act as shock absorbers.

In the matter of how to pack the refrigerator for transport, it is very important to ensure that the motor-compressor is firmly fixed. For many modern models, transport bolts solve this problem. But even if they are not, the compressor must be protected from potential damage during transport. At a minimum, you need to block its casing with cardboard.

Refrigerator packaging features

In order to properly pack the unit itself, you need to:

1. Make sure that the compressor is securely fixed.
2. Secure the doors with paper tape in several places.
3. Place the power cord on its holders or on the radiator grille.
4. If you have the factory box and foam inserts, use them.
5. If there are none left, wrap the device thoroughly with shipping carton and bubble wrap. Fix with tape. Carefully close the sharp ends with a film.

Pack the instrument on all sides to protect it from dirt, moisture and potential damage. After that, you can start moving.

How to do things right?

Transportation of household appliances and other goods should be entrusted to professionals. Otherwise, all your efforts at the preparatory stage may be in vain. If you don’t have time to pack things or you just don’t want to do it, the moving company will help you with this as well. The guys will bring the necessary packing materials and perfectly prepare any equipment, furniture and other property that you plan to transport for the move.

After that, they will carefully lower the prepared load to the street, correctly load it into a furniture van, set it vertically in the back and securely fix it for delicate transportation. The driver will choose a route taking into account the quality and congestion of the roads in order to avoid unnecessary shaking, frequent braking and jerking while driving. Why are refrigerators transported vertically?

These appliances are designed to stand, not lie down. It is the vertical position for them that is correct. Transporting in a horizontal position often leads to serious damage to the equipment. A fragile and vulnerable condenser is located in the area of ​​​​the rear wall near the refrigerator. The door is also vulnerable – if you put the unit on it, the tightness of the chambers will be broken.

In the side position, there is a risk that oil from the controller housing will enter the refrigerant circuit. The tubes through which freon follows from the compressor and back, in this case, are directed up and down. And if oil gets into the injection tube during the move, during further operation of the device it will spread along the circuit, clog the capillary tube and cause a breakdown.

Information on whether it is permissible to transport a specific model of a refrigerator in a horizontal position (and if so, on which side) is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions.

Installation at a new location

After the move, the refrigerator is delivered to the premises. No matter how far the trip was, he needs to stand for several hours without being connected to the mains. The implementation of this advice is important for adapting the device to a new microclimate. When moving in cold weather, it will take 4-8 hours to acclimatize. During this time, the temperature of all units of the unit will have time to catch up with the room value.

90,000 Las Vegas hit by hockey fever | National Hockey League

LAS VEGAS – Fans lined up a block-long, six-person-wide line on both sides of the red carpet and filled the space in front of the stage. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters. Caps, t-shirts and sweaters. With pens, notebooks and phones in hand. They shouted and chanted.

Patrick Hughes, who is president of the Fremont Street Experience (an entertainment district in downtown Las Vegas), estimated that there were about 10,000 people there.

Ten. Thousand. Human. Sunday afternoon at the Fan Fest. They came to support an NHL team that is halfway through its first season.

“Uh… Unexpectedly?,” goalkeeper Marc-André Fleury said with a smile. “It’s just crazy.”

Is this the story of the Vegas Golden Knights? Surprise? Madness?

The Fan Fest was originally scheduled for 3 October. It was assumed that the new team would be presented to the city on it. But it was delayed by the worst mass shooting in American history on the Strip on October 1, which killed 58 people.

At that time, instead of the Golden Knights holiday, they visited the victims of the tragedy, their families, the first witnesses of the incident and blood collection points. They won their first two away matches in dramatic style, and on October 10 they arrived in Las Vegas to play their first meeting at the T-Mobile Arena. After an emotional pre-match ceremony, which was held under the motto “Strong Vegas”, they won again.

And they went on and on winning, improving record after record for rookie teams. They played 29-10-3. After 42 games, they have 61 points to their credit and are first in scoring percentage in the Western Conference and second in the entire league (72.6%)

Las Vegas was supposed to be happy to have its first professional sports team. Given the expansion draft, the Golden Knights should have been doing relatively well.

But so?

“I don’t think anyone would have guessed it would turn out like this,” owner Bill Foley said. “I have to pinch myself to believe it’s happening.”

Success followed on and off the ice like a snowball. “Vegas” became a recognizable brand far beyond the Strip, fans began to call the team their own, parents began to take their children to the stadium and introduce them to the new game. It is noticeable and even incredible.

The Golden Knights are playing at 103 percent capacity at the T-Mobile Arena, where they have won 18 out of 22 matches (18-2-2) and have already launched season ticket sales for next season due to increased demand.

The bass during the warm-up hits so deep that it creates ripples in the water in the bottles standing on board. The patients are deafening. The atmosphere becomes even more electrifying when fans of other teams come to the city and have a good time here.

Saturday night, the crowd of 18,351 included thousands of Oilers fans. They competed with each other during the performance of national anthems and team chants: “Let’s go, Oilers!”, “Go Knights go!”. The Las Vegas metropolitan area is home to 2.1 million people. Many come from other places. There were already plenty of fans here who cared about other NHL teams or local minor league teams, but others got hooked on hockey because of the Golden Knights.

Farhan and Ellie Nakvi moved to Las Vegas from Toronto. They were not fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs and had never been to their game. But Farhan went to the Golden Knights’ first home game and something changed.

“That first match left a lasting impression on me, I was blown away,” he said.

He told Ellie they should go to hockey with their sons, 11-year-old Sean and seven-year-old Daniel.

“I told him we don’t watch hockey and we never did in Canada,” Ellie said. We need season tickets. The energy was incredible.”

They now have four season tickets. Sean and Daniel are participating in the Learn to Skate program. They also play basketball, but Daniel now wants to focus on hockey.

“We’ve become obsessed with it,” Farhan said. “We just love it. We love skating, we love taking the kids with us. I’ve never seen such support, it’s just cool. And of course wins help, don’t we whether?”

Pamela Salvador moved to Las Vegas from Southern California. She wasn’t a fan of the Anaheim Ducks or the Los Angeles Kings. However, she and her husband, Ed Seidenstreaker, went to a Golden Knights game. And then they came to the match with their six-year-old son Rylan Seidenstreaker.

“It’s very impressive, you know,” Foley said. “The team feeds on your energy just like the city feeds on the team. I’m extremely proud of the team and Las Vegas, which keeps a great organization.”

Players were then introduced one at a time. They lifted their shirts and lined up on the stage as the fans chanted “Go Knights go!” They were loud and proud. Hockey players looked stunned.

“I wanted to make a video to remember this moment, because what is happening is incredible,” said Bellemare. “It happens once in a lifetime. And this is just the beginning.”

Hockey on the sand: why Las Vegas needs an NHL team

A new club, the Vegas Golden Knights, will play in the NHL championship starting on October 4th. Forbes talks about why billionaire Bill Foley spent money on hockey and how he plans to make money on the team

Las Vegas has never been a hockey city. Of the eight teams that have ever existed here, the most notable was the Las Vegas Wranglers: from 2003 to 2015, they played in the ECHL, an East Coast hockey league that you don’t need to know about.

Everything changed in May 2013, when the Maloof family (large owners of real estate in Vegas – in particular, the owners of the Palms Hotel and Casino) sold the franchise of the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball club, which they had owned since 1998, for more than $534 million. However, completely abandoning the sport was not part of their plans. The brothers turned to their longtime friend, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, with a proposal to create a hockey team in Vegas. “He didn’t say no and he didn’t say yes. He said he’d think about it,” recalls Gavin, one of the Maloof brothers. Thus began the history of the first NHL club in Las Vegas.

Who pays for the hockey club in Las Vegas

In order to launch the project, the brothers needed a co-investor – a “frontman”, as Gavin Maloof aptly put it. Through acquaintances, the candidacy of the 70-year-old billionaire from Florida, William Bill Foley, arose. He had previously tried to buy a local American football team (the Jacksonville Jaguars) and was still interested in investing in the sport. For the first meeting with a potential partner, Gavin and Joe flew to Jacksonville in brand new suits – completely unusual clothes for themselves. “We go into Bill’s office,” Gavin later recalled, “and he meets us in jeans and a T-shirt and asks why we are so dressed up. As a result, Foley became the owner of 70% of the shares of the new club (the Maloof family got the remaining 30%). “I was offered to get involved in hockey history in St. Louis, but I said no,” the businessman explained his decision in an interview with American Forbes, “This should have been the place where I want to live. How Vegas will make money

In December 2014, the NHL allowed Foley to start accepting season ticket deposits to show audience interest. His team bought billboards and two 15-second Super Bowl spots. The businessman himself traveled to the suburbs and advertised hockey everywhere – from sports bars to churches. Each speech ended with a video message from Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval: “This year, 2014, is the 150th anniversary of Nevada. And there can be no better gift than your own hockey club in the NHL.

Sales began in February 2015, and within two days residents purchased 5,000 season tickets, and by the end of March, the goal of 10,000 was reached. “People were buying season tickets for a team that might never have happened. I don’t think this has ever happened before,” even Bettman wondered.

Unless you’re a hardcore gamer or creative professional, many of the most technical specs — latency and color gamut, for example — won’t really matter to you (though many of these could serve as a budget gaming monitor). You should always take them with a grain of salt, anyway.

For less than $200, you can generally expect to get:

• A maximum of 1,920×1,080-pixel screen resolution (dubbed by marketers as “Full HD resolution” and also referred to as 1080p or 2K for its roughly 2,000 pixels across). Below 27 inches, that’s fine. At 27 inches or larger, it’s not great except in one important case. Essentially, the reason you buy a 27-inch monitor over a 24-inch is usually because you want to fit more on to it. But if it’s using the same number of pixels, it just makes everything bigger — it doesn’t put more on the screen. And because it’s spreading them across a bigger screen, some people (like me) may get annoyed at seeing the pixel grid. I find a pixel density (the number of pixels per inch, or ppi) of at least 90 a good balance, but YMMV. The exception? If you actually need things like text to be bigger, such as if you have impaired vision.
• A stand that lets you tilt the computer monitor, not raise or lower it. We want to reduce eye strain and optimize ergonomics wherever possible.
• While there might be one or two larger, the monitors go mostly up to 27 inches.
• Between 250 and 350 nits of brightness. That should be fine for most uses.
• Up to 75Hz refresh rate for an IPS (which stands for in-plane switching) monitor or 144Hz refresh rate for a TN (twisted nematic). A high refresh rate matters if you’re planning to play a lot of FPS, racing, fighting or other motion-sensitive
  gaming
  . An IPS monitor is better for general-purpose use, since it’s superior for off-angle viewing and typically has better color. But the fastest IPS monitor you’ll find for the money is 75Hz. A TN monitor is better for fast gaming and a better gaming experience; it has a higher contrast ratio, but poorer viewing angle — color accuracy and contrast changes as you move further from looking straight-on. 
• If it comes with built-in speakers, don’t assume they’re a replacement for real standalone versions. They’re occasionally better than expected, but think of the speakers as a nice perk for basic system sounds or videoconferencing and consider it a windfall if they’re satisfactory for entertainment. (I’ve been relatively impressed with the speakers in BenQ’s EW series.)
• A lot of these cheap monitors support AMD’s adaptive refresh FreeSync technology, which works with AMD’s graphics processors for syncing game frame rates with the display.
• A curved monitor, which can make a wide display fit into your field of view without requiring you to sit too far back, isn’t worth paying more for in monitors 27 inches or smaller; then the bezels are too far within your field of view. One potential exception is if you plan to span across three identical monitors for gameplay. Then they wrap around you better than three flat screens.

Upping your budget to between $200 and $300 will bring more 32-inch screen size options and 2,560×1,440 resolution. And, of course, the more you’re willing to spend, the more you’re likely to find something in stock and ready to ship.

Wall mounting

First and foremost, as a result of their eponymous shape, curved screens face difficulty when it comes to wall mounting. Unlike flat screens, which are typically flush with the adjacent wall, curved screens require specific mounts and positioning in order to be mounted.

Broadly speaking, curved screens necessitate a situation where they are kept from being too close to the wall. Although they don’t resolve the fact curved screens will jut out, tilt & swivel brackets and adjustable arm mounts are great options to overcome the hurdle of mounting in general.

Glare
