The laptop power supply is getting hot, what should I do? This question is asked by almost every user of modern technology who has picked up a charger at least once: the temperature really rises during operation. However, this does not always indicate a malfunction.

Why is the laptop charger getting hot?

There can be several reasons. The most common is low power. The adapter doesn’t match your laptop, it just isn’t capable of “putting out” the right amount of power to meet the needs of the device. But it still tries – so it heats up.

Important: The PSU can generate excess heat even if the nominal power is within the lower limit of the range specified by the manufacturer. The gadget will not break, but the adapter will “have to” function at maximum speed.

How it works

The power supply is essentially a 220-volt AC converter that comes from a wall outlet into the DC power needed to run a laptop. It can be in the range of 15-24 V. The transformer in the adapter performs the conversion, the diode bridge rectifies. Both nodes can operate with varying degrees of intensity, which depends on the magnitude of the electrical load and the power difference.

Most often, the maximum heating occurs in the first half hour of operation. This is due to the fact that the PSU is forced to keep the laptop running and replenish the battery at the same time. As a result, the load is maximum, then the battery is charged, and the processes stabilize.

If the power is sufficient, but the power supply is still heated, it is worth looking for other reasons:

• Faulty battery

Do I need to buy a new power supply if it gets hot

Most likely yes. But before placing an order, you need to make sure that the problem is in the adapter. To do this, make sure the laptop is placed on a hard surface, ideally a table in a cool, well-ventilated area. Visually evaluate the charging wires – they should be intact. The plug and connector must not hang out.

You also need to know the model number of your notebook. It’s a little harder to find, but it’s usually located on the underside of your laptop on a small sticker. What’s the Difference Between Ink and Toner Cartridges?

What is an ink cartridge?

The laptop power supply is beeping, what should you do if you hear this? First of all, do not panic and figure out if charging really makes a sharp unpleasant sound?
