Despite the success of a franchise, sometimes the end is inevitable. It has to come because if it doesn’t then a once-beloved series runs the risk of becoming tired. PlayStation has a slew of iconic franchises, and Uncharted is one of the best thanks to its Indiana Jones-styled approach to its adventure. It also helps that we’ve got a charming protagonist named Nathan Drake. But seven years ago, Drake’s story ended with the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. What makes Uncharted 4 special is that it ends the series on a high note, and it paved the way for the future of PlayStation in the process.
The Uncharted series from Naughty Dog (now best known for The Last of Us) defined the PlayStation 3. The first entry, Drake’s Fortune, was released a year into the console’s lifespan. The subsequent second and third entries followed soon after. It made a concise trilogy that could all be played on the PlayStation 3, solidifying the console as the place to play some of the most cinematic and exciting exclusives in gaming. But the story of Nathan Drake had one last chapter: the end.
Nate’s too old for this.
Sony
Released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016, Uncharted 4 still has the roguish charm of the first three games, and the plot follows a familiar formula by introducing some mystical treasure for Drake and company to hunt down before some goons. In this case, it is the lost pirate paradise of Libertalia, which still holds a massive horde of wealth to be plundered. Back to help Nate get to the booty first are series mainstays like Sully and Elena, with the added introduction of Nate’s previously thought-dead brother Sam.
While much of the blueprint is in line with the carefree globetrotting hijinks of the first three games, what sets A Thief’s End apart is its more somber approach to the story. With only a few in-game years passing since Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Nate has found that he is not as young as he used to be. Trading a life of adventure for one of comfort, he now lives with Elena and works an honest job.
But he is restless, and the promise of one last great adventure is impossible to pass up. Despite his desire to recapture the sense of his old adventures, A Thief’s End makes him struggle more than ever. It is a gripping narrative that also includes mechanical leaps like larger open areas for exploration and some of the most gorgeous set pieces in the series.
There is an implicit acknowledgment on the game’s part that this is the end of the line for Nate. From the moment you press start, it is an unstoppable roller coaster toward an end for the series. It is a sense of dread that hangs over everything — which the game wants to make the player sit in.
Uncharted 4 helped usher in a new era of PlayStation exclusives.
Sony
Much of this darker tone comes from a change in leadership for the finale. After series creator Amy Henning departed from Naughty Dog, Last of Us creators Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley took over Uncharted 4. While not nearly as oppressively dark as The Last of Us, Uncharted 4 takes more emotional cues from that game than its predecessors. The graphical fidelity of the PS4 is used to show the wrinkles that now define Nate’s face along with speckles of gray in his hair. Even the story of a paradise that met its end all comment on the meta-narrative of Uncharted 4.
In addition to marking the end of the Uncharted series, A Thief’s End also marks a close to an era of PlayStation while simultaneously marking the beginning of another. It closes out the adventurous blockbusters of the PlayStation 3 era that Uncharted helped define while ushering in the era of prestige.
The Last of Us began this move but Uncharted 4’s transformation of the series solidifies it. Following Uncharted 4, Sony pivoted to making games that feel more traditionally prestigious, culminating in the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and other modern classics.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a deserved finale for one of PlayStation’s biggest franchises, but it was also a begging for PlayStation whose influences can still be felt today.

How To Solve Controller Problem
Fixes / October 21, 2022 / By Dobby
The Uncharted franchise is one of the most well-known and well-played in the gaming domain. It has always attracted a varied fan base due to the adventure-style action and journeying around the Earth. The same is the case for the new pair of games released today itself. The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection consists of two big launches: Uncharted 4 – A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
While both games were out on the consoles, this will be the first time that PC players get in on the action to explore everything present in the two games. However, it has not been a smooth ride so far on its maiden day. There have been recurring problems with the controllers which are failing to pickup the game play, leaving them useless.
In that regard, it is important to solve this issue as soon as possible so that it does not hinder the future of the game. Therefore, the following guide will help players in solving their problems with the controllers.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection – How to fix controller problem on PC
The problems seem to persist with controllers for PS4 and PS5, both of which have become a staple for the gaming community. Therefore, the serious nature of the issue means you will want to solve it quickly, and here are some steps to do the same:
Go for a wired cable in place of Bluetooth or wireless
An old-school solution for gamers over the years. It has often been observed that wireless controllers misbehave during games which can be the issue here as well. You should try using a wired controller as Bluetooth will need a plugin or a different software for it to function on the PC. However, this is not a fail-safe solution so you would want to make sure of the other methods as well.
Playing through Epic Games
For players who have been playing through the Epic Games store, you go through the below steps:
Choose “Add a game” from the Steam Library
Select “Add a Non-Steam Game” from the dropdown menu
Go to “Epic Games Launcher” before choosing “Add Selected Programs”
Now you can make use of the present controller from Epic Games too which should allow you to solve the connectivity issue.
Playing through Steam
For players opting for Steam, the problem has mostly been occurring through Dualsense controllers which need you to turn off Steam data. However, that may not be easy for everyone and this is how to go about it:
You will need to shut down the game, no matter if it is on or not
Now open Steam and make your way to Library
Right-click the “Uncharted Legacy of Thieves” collection
Choose “Properties” and then “Controller”
From the dropdown menu, make sure you disable “steam input” which will see your controller working now
Start the game again and hopefully your game is now working with the desired controller.
Thus, that is all the information players may need to solve the controller issue. Additionally, you would want to remove the usage of applications like DS4, DSX, and DualSense X on your PC. These have been found to regularly sabotage the running of the controller and prevent it from being detected in the game.

Steam Community :: Group :: Russian Steam Community
Until recently, the compatibility of games for PC and controllers was only taken care of by individual developers. This led to the fact that a particular game supported a predetermined set of devices, and players chose from these options. In 2015, we started an experiment to find out what happens when the community is less restricted. We’ve created tools to allow Steam users to bind various device controls (eg Steam Controller, PlayStation and Xbox controllers) to any combination of input elements that the game understands (eg keyboard keys, mouse movements, controller clicks). In addition, we have created a system where users can share their own controller layouts and modify the layouts created by others, and since the best ones appear at the top of the list, the combined efforts of the community benefit us all. These two features – input element binding and the layout publishing system – formed the basis of what we now call the Steam Input system.
Three years later, the experiment with the input system began to bring interesting results. In particular, by supporting so many controllers, we learned about which controllers are used on the platform, and by supporting custom layouts, we learned how players prefer to interact with different genres. Today we will share with you information about which controllers are used on Steam and how, and what happens when a new controller appears on the platform. We will also discuss the Steam Controller and how the hardware settings make it different from other types of controllers.
Controllers on Steam
The first thing you notice is that many Steam players have a controller. Since 2015, over 30 million players have registered at least one controller, and over 15 million have registered more than one. Including accounts with multiple controllers and controllers registered to multiple accounts, there are 60 million device-account pairs on Steam. The diagrams below show a breakdown by controller type.
The majority of devices are console controllers, but the remaining 8% are also a significant number, with about 5 million devices. This group consists of Steam controllers, PC gamepads, Nintendo controllers, and arcade controllers (and don’t forget the 783 dancepads). This is a large, motley collection of input devices that in many cases require some effort from the user just to connect to the computer. There’s a lot hidden in these numbers, but when combined with the time spent in games, we come to some interesting conclusions.
Xbox controllers are the most common controller for PCs
Xbox controllers are the standard controller for PC games, and this fact is obvious when looking at the statistics. There are approximately 40 million Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers connected to Steam, accounting for 64% of all controllers. How exactly did they become the standard? Ten years ago, Microsoft made a major effort to adopt the XInput protocol that underpins the Xbox input system, and the result has been widespread support from game developers. Since the vast majority of games have built-in support for XInput, the Xbox controller is a solid option that allows you to play a variety of games without any problems.
PS4 controllers are surprisingly common
The PlayStation 4 is a very popular console with a great controller. The reason we’re surprised by the 12 million number is because the PS4 controller wasn’t usually seen as a PC game controller. Built-in support is rare, so players use software that converts PS4 controller signals to Xbox controller signals. This approach has several disadvantages. For example, the game may prompt you to press Y to jump, but you actually have to press the triangular button. This transformation, which needs to be done in the mind, is troubling many PS4 controller users, and it’s clear from last month’s playtime data.
Note that Xbox One user engagement is almost double that of PS4. It’s unclear how much of this difference can be explained by user experience, but it’s probably safe to assume that this gap would be smaller if more games supported the PS4 controller. One possible solution is to fully integrate the Steam input system on the game side, which allows hints to be shown in the game that are appropriate for the type of controller selected by the user. We’ll go into more detail on all of the additional features of the Steam input system later, but in the meantime, we state that there is a large and unexplored community of PS4 controller users on Steam today.
Switch Pro controller is very popular for the new device
The Switch Pro controller appeared in 2017 and players started using it with their computers right away. At the time, support was mostly limited to the basic ability to remap buttons in the Steam input system. This meant that the user interface did not match the device and features such as motion control and vibration were not available. An update released on Steam in May 2018 included a full set of features for this device, the corresponding icons were added to the user interface, and a number of general improvements. As a result, the growth of these controllers has accelerated (see chart below), and it has become the seventh most popular controller on Steam.
Steam controllers fit a wide variety of games
The Steam Controller is compatible with your entire library, including games that require a mouse to control. The unique combination of trackpad and gyroscope allows you to aim more accurately than a regular stick and helps bridge the gap between controller and non-controller games. To date, we have sold 1.3 million controllers, but we are much more interested in how they are used. The Steam Controller community plays a more diverse set of games compared to users of other types of controllers: its owners play twice as many games as the owners of the following device. Also, many of these games don’t have controller support at all. We are happy that our users are enjoying all kinds of games and will continue to improve the Steam Controller for both existing and future users.
What’s next?
The Steam platform has a large and diverse collection of controllers, and this fact is contrary to the approach in which controller support is built-in or static. Sure, Xbox controller support will meet the requirements of 64% of Steam users, but what about the other 22 million devices? What’s more, future controllers may have input methods that didn’t exist or weren’t popular at the time the game was released. For example, motion control is a relatively new development, but the Steam input system allowed the community to experiment with it in older games. In some cases, users have found motion control settings that they feel are superior to those that have been in use for many years.
Another significant benefit of fully integrating with the Steam input system, which supports over 200 controller models, is that it provides a consistent user experience across multiple devices. And since it’s part of Steam, future updates to the Steam client will include support for new controllers without any effort from developers. In future posts, we will discuss these and other features of the Steam input system and show how they help the vast number of controller users on Steam.

Diablo IV PC performance, system requirements, and the best settings to use
If there’s a single upside to the collapsing standards of technical competence among big-budget PC games, it’s that when something like Diablo 4 comes along and simply performs well, there’s an almost pleasant relief to it. Like your bus arriving on time, a minute after watching the previous, late-arriving one flip onto its roof attempting a handbrake turn.
It’s not perfect, but Diablo IV does run smoothly for the most part (also sorry Google, but I’m going back to Roman numberals), and its system requirements on PC are as likely to involve museum pieces as they are the latest and priciest graphics cards. I’ve put some hours into the early access build and have come up with a best settings guide, but in truth, this will likely just optimise your framerates – Diablo IV’s higher quality settings rarely trouble it, especially at 1080p.
Watch on YouTube
What is the best class in Diablo 4? Watch this video to find out.
It even works quite well on the Steam Deck, thanks to a combination of low hardware requirements and Blizzard’s good work in making Diablo iV playable on gamepad controls. We’ll focus on desktop performance and settings here, though.
Diablo IV system requirements and PC performance
Even if you’re still making do with decades-old kit, Diablo IV is all but certain to run on your PC, and it scales well up to gleaming 4K too. The only real points of potential bother are the always-online requirement, the bumper 90GB of storage you’ll need for installation, and the use of an SSD specifically. Diablo IV will still function if you whack it on a hard drive, but expect lengthy load times, as it can take a while to get into the game even on a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
Diablo IV minimum PC specs (720p / 30fps)
OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1909 or newer)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-8350
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 / AMD Radeon R9 280
DirectX: DX12
Storage: SSD with 90GB available space
Internet: Broadband connection
Diablo IV Medium/recommended PC specs (1080p / 60fps)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080/ Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series for DLSS 3 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
DirectX: DX12
Storage: SSD with 90GB available space
Internet: Broadband connection
Half the GPUs listed in these specs are so old that I don’t have any of them in my cupboard o’ things, so to test Diablo IV’s low-end performance I subbed in a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. This is a little less powerful than the GTX 970, so for 60fps at 1080p, I’d say Blizzard’s recommendations are pretty spot on: with a Core i5-11600K and 16GB of RAM, the GTX 1050 Ti averaged 66fps on the Low quality preset and 56fps on Medium.
Going up the 10-series one step, to the GTX 1060, further proved that older hardware ain’t no thing to Diablo IV. Again using 1080p, this card averaged 107fps on Low, 87fps on Medium, 75fps on High and 62fps on Ultra. Pre-RTX Nvidia GPUs can’t take advantage of Diablo IV’s DLSS support, but AMD FSR 2 is available for upscaling duty on GTX, Radeon and Intel Arc models.
At the luxury end of the scale, I’m less convinced that 4K does in fact need an RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT, or indeed 32GB of memory. My RTX 3070 was perfectly capable at this resolution, averaging 64fps on Ultra quality, and DLSS 2 upscaling – on its sharpest-looking Quality setting – worked wonderfully to bring that up to 96fps. There was some very occasional mini-stuttering, but I don’t think that’s specifically down to a lack of RAM or VRAM as I also sometimes got it on lower resolutions and settings.
Yes, unfortunately Diablo IV can stutter, though at least it’s a rarer occurrence than it’s been in most big 2023 releases. I’ve only noticed it three or four times across hours of play, and mainly while exploring open areas; I’ve yet to have these hiccups interrupt a raucous skeleton fight while dungeon diving.
The only other fix-starved problem I encountered was a dodgy DLSS 3 implementation. Anyone with an RTX 40 series GPU can enable AI frame generation for an easy framerate boost, as well as standard DLSS 2 upscaling for the same purpose, but when selecting both together, frame generation stops working. For me, anyway – I haven’t seen much widespread complaining from other early access players, so whether this issue occurs may involve some basic bad luck. Hopefully it gets patched regardless – though for what it’s worth, the DLSS + frame gen combo is far from essential on the invariably mighty RTX 40 family. I tried the (current) weakest of the lot, the new RTX 4060 Ti, and this averaged 52fps at Ultra / 4K without any help at all. Quality DLSS bumped it up to 83fps, while un-upscaled frame generation got it to 69fps – so if you also can’t combine the two, DLSS is the tool to use.
Diablo IV best settings guide
Outside of those two blemishes, Diablo IV is technically sound enough that maxed-out quality is probably worth trying, at least on relatively new hardware. Orrrrrr you could spend a few seconds customising the toggle-rich amassment of individual settings, balancing visuals with speed to make performance even better. Think of it as min-maxing, only for ambient occlusion instead of the rate at which you throw bones at demons.
First, we’ll look at each of these settings to find out their performance impact, before building a best settings list from the results. Our control GPU will be the still-popular GTX 1060, running at 1080p – so we’re looking to improve on the Ultra preset’s 62fps average.
Caption
Attribution
DLSS/FSR 2: Diablo IV provides a choice of upscalers. The best-looking of these is DLSS on its Quality setting, though that’s exclusive to GeForce RTX GPUs, with DLSS 3’s frame generation further limited to RTX 40 series models.
The GTX 1060 doesn’t fall into either camp, though can still use FSR 2, the Quality mode of which turned that 62fps average into 72fps. It’s worth considering, though arguably more so at 1440p and 4K than at 1080p. DLSS, meanwhile, improved the RTX 3070’s Ultra / 4K performance by 50%, and the RTX 4060 Ti’s by 60%.
Texture Quality: There’s actually little to gain from lowering this, judging by how Medium textures only added 2fps to the GTX 1060’s average. You could try Low, but it’s ugly as sin.
Anisotropic Filtering: Again, leave this at full whack. Dropping from 16x to 2x didn’t improve performance at all.
Shadow Quality: Switching from Highest to Medium shadows yielded a rise to 67fps, and didn’t make Diablo IV’s visuals much worse off. I’d lower this one.
Dynamic Shadows: A tough choice here. Disabling the dynamic shadows toggle had performance shoot up to 77fps, but the visual loss was stark – it does look weird, even by high fantasy standards, for your character not to cast a shadow. Maybe switch it off for very low-end PCs but keep it on otherwise.
Soft Shadows: Turning this off added a mere 1fps to average performance, so probably isn’t worth it.
Shader Quality: No change at all for the GTX 1060 when dropping shaders from High to Low.
SSAO Quality: Now here’s another setting for the chopping block. Switching from High to Low is barely visible in motion, yet propelled the GTX 1060 up to 69fps in a single click.
Fog Quality: Low quality is worth trying, as it got the GTX 1060 up to 67fps.
Clutter Quality: Go for Medium quality here, I reckon. There are lower settings but Medium delivers a healthy performance boost as it is, allowing the GTX 1060 to average 69fps.
Fur Quality Level: Alas, this breaks the streak of impactful settings, as lowering fur quality didn’t improve my average FPS at all.
Water Simulation Quality: Despite the occasional appearance of some rather rank bodies of (likely body-filled) water, toning down liquid effects won’t help performance much. I got 62fps on Ultra and Medium quality alike.
Anti-Aliasing Quality: Keep this turned up, as the Low setting only netted an additional 1fps. Though if you elect to use one of the upscalers listed above, Diablo IV’s own AA gets overridden anyhow.
Geometric Complexity: Keeping this on High can be good for very fine environmental details, but the performance gain from Low – I got 67fps – is hard to ignore.
Terrain Complexity Detail: Another borderline meaningless 1fps difference between High and Low. Look elsewhere for changes.
Physics Quality: No difference at all to report between High and Low physics simulation, so stick to High.
Particles Quality: Surprisingly, given the glitter bag of visual effects that explodes in most enemy encounters, dropping this from High to Medium did nothing to average FPS.
Reflection Quality: It’s 62fps once again from Low reflections, so High is fine to keep.
Screen Space Reflections: I got a little 4fps boost from disabling SSR, though the aesthetic quality of some areas definitely diminished. Maybe worth turning off in a pinch, but there are better settings to drop first.
Distortion: No performance change here, with the GTX 1060 scoring 62fps with distortion both on and off.
Low FX: This is a more visibly noticeable version of what I imagined Particles Quality would be, toning down the visual richness of various attack and spellcasting effects. It’s not much help, though, doing nothing to improve on that 62fps average.
The game’s generally good performance lets us be picky with which settings to sacrifice, with some of those only needing to drop to Medium – not always Low – in exchange for a healthy FPS increase. Here’s what I’d call Diablo IV’s best settings on PC:
Shadow Quality: Medium
SSAO Quality: Low
Fog Quality: Low
Clutter Quality: Medium
Geometric Complexity: Low
Everything else: Ultra preset equivalent
With just these five adjustments to the Ultra preset’s settings, the GTX 1060’s average performance lept from 62fps to 92fps: a 48% increase with only minor reductions to visual quality.
As for upscaling, I don’t advise it at 1080p, partly because you’ve a good chance of high performance at native resolution anyway and partly because even DLSS can look blurry at Full HD. For 1440p and 4K, sure, throw it in. I’d recommend the Quality setting for both DLSS and FSR, depending on what your graphics card supports, with DLSS being ideal.
90,000 ranking of the top 11 office PCs according to KP. Photos, videos, cost, customer reviews, tips for choosing
A huge number of office computers are presented on the modern market in 2023. An ordinary user can be guided by the “price equals quality” setting when choosing a technique, or rely on maximum performance. But this is not the right approach, since each type of activity requires certain parameters: good graphics, a productive process and a high level of data security. Speaking of the last factor, many PCs have a TMP module installed (a chip that makes the computer resistant to tampering and malware).
Thus, when choosing an office computer, it is important that it works stably and quickly in standard programs, does not make noise and does not take up much space.
Buying a PC, for example, for home use, a person determines the budget himself and relies on personal preferences. For the head of the company, it is important that the device works for a long time and properly copes with tasks (work in text editors, high data processing speed) and is inexpensive.
It is better to choose computers based on at least a quad-core processor. If your work is related to graphics and design, then you need to select models with an advanced video card (for example, from Intel).
Today’s executives are increasingly opting for monoblocks (PC in one case with a monitor), but the price of such a device is much higher. But, when buying a regular system unit, it is worth considering that you will have to additionally purchase a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
The article presents the best computers for the office in 2023, as well as experience and expert advice on choosing the right PC.

cost and good performance. Pay attention to models from popular brands, as they usually give a guarantee on their products for at least 1 year. In the office, the computer almost always works, so you need to choose a product with high-quality components and conscientious assembly.
Processor
For an office computer, you need a powerful processor with at least two cores and two threads with a frequency of at least 2-3 GHz. For example: AMD A8, A10, Intel Pentium G4620. Top processors are Intel i3, i5 and higher.
RAM
The amount of RAM together with the processor makes up the overall performance of an office computer. This affects the speed of work and the ability to multitask. The more RAM, the more applications can run simultaneously. A good indicator is the volume of 8 GB and above.
Total storage capacity
In addition to RAM, which is required for the operation of the operating system, computers are equipped with built-in memory for data storage. Most modern models use an SSD drive, but in some versions it is possible to connect an additional hard drive. SSD memory has faster read and write speeds than HDDs. The recommended storage capacity for office tasks is 256 GB or more.
Video card
An office computer does not require realistic and vibrant graphics, unlike a gaming PC. But this does not apply to professions related to design, photo and video editing and design. Many models are equipped with Intel UHD Graphics 630, which are great for working in office programs.
Expert review of office computers
Vyacheslav Makarov, B2B purchasing manager of NBCom Group, shared his personal experience of using an office PC:
“I just have a regular computer: Intel Core i7 6700 processor, 16 GB DDR3 , SSD – 256 GB, HDD 2 TB, GTX 1070 graphics card and 600 W power supply. I think I got it in 2016. Collected myself. The task was to meet the budget and get a sufficiently powerful stuffing.
I have not changed anything since then, because at the moment the performance is enough for my tasks: office work and the use of text applications, non-top games in Full HD resolution, various software.
Although the equipment was selected so that it was possible to sell old spare parts about once a year and buy new ones, paying a small difference, and at the same time be constantly on modern hardware.
Popular questions and answers
Expert Vyacheslav Makarov also answered questions from KP readers about choosing office computers.
How can I save money on buying a computer for my office?
It all depends on the task and the specific case. For example, sometimes it is more convenient and cheaper to buy not stationary PCs for the office, but thin clients (thin clients) – input and display devices. Simply put, these are small silent computers without a hard drive that do not count anything themselves. The operating system is loaded and the data is processed on the server. The task of thin clients is only to display the received information on the screen and give access to the Internet. This scenario is convenient when there are many people in the company. For example, 100-150 employees who perform routine tasks in undemanding programs, such as 1C.
If you have the opposite situation: 5-10 employees in the state, and you cannot keep your server with the ability to deploy remote clients, then the optimal build configuration is selected, taking into account the fact that these PCs can later be “upgraded”. Thus, during long-term operation with properly selected components, you can confidently keep the average computing power of the company’s PC fleet at a high level by buying more memory or pointwise replacing components with more powerful ones. And a complete replacement of the PC itself is not required.
You can assemble the system unit yourself or order assembly from companies that supply equipment. In this case, you will not overpay for the brand and unnecessary pre-installed software. Also, in your own assemblies, you can use components of past generations, but meeting modern requirements. They will cost less.
Which is better for the office: a desktop PC or a monoblock?
Depends on the workplace. Sometimes it is physically inconvenient to place a separate system unit, monitor, pull wires, and so on. Then it is advisable to put a compact solution in the form of a monoblock. On the other hand, all-in-ones are usually made from laptop components that can be scaled down in performance to reduce heat. A stationary PC for the same money allows you to get a more powerful configuration, and its repair is many times easier than repairing a monoblock.
How much RAM does an office PC need in 2023?
8 GB can be considered optimal. Because on average, when working in a browser, mail, 1C, Excel and other office programs, a comparable amount of RAM is used. But it is worth considering exactly your type of activity, nevertheless, in most cases, an office computer is equipped with 4 GB of RAM, which is quite enough for an employee.
What size power supply is best for an office PC?
The power of the power supply is the maximum value it can supply to the PC components. There is a second value – the total power consumption of PC components. If you count them, then for an office PC it will be about 60–80 W for the processor, 20–25 W for the motherboard, another 50–100 W for additional equipment (disks, peripherals, and so on). In total, you get about 150-200 watts.
There must also be a power reserve so that the power supply does not work all the time at 100% load, otherwise this will accelerate its depreciation. The most effective performance indicator is in the region of 80-90% power. Total we get about 250 watts. But such power supplies, as a rule, are not made.
The average power supply starts at 300W, and the most common value on the market is 450W. A video card consumes a lot of power (up to 300 W), but they are usually not installed in office PCs, so additional power is not required for them.
Accordingly, a 300-450 W power supply will be the best option for an office computer, it makes no sense to take more.

I work as an engineer in IT.
I work in software, and hardware is just my hobby. I have been using two systems for a long time: macOS for work and surfing, and Windows for games. Over the years, he owned a Macbook and a PC at the same time, and sometimes installed a Hackintosh on a stationary computer to switch between operating systems.

Passion for unusual assemblies
From school, I used to build my own computers. About seven years ago, I started experimenting with non-standard solutions – in terms of form factor and components. Then I bought myself a new PC in an unusual Xigmatek Aquila case with an Intel Core i5-3470 processor. Later added a Radeon R9 graphics card to it290X.
At first, the PC seemed strange to me, but over time I realized its convenience. The motherboard was on top horizontally, and below it were drives and a power supply. The advantage of this arrangement is excellent airflow. Yes, and it looked beautiful. The only drawback was that the PC did not fit into the Expedit IKEA shelving unit with the table top attached. And it took up a lot of space on the table.
External view of one of the models of the IKEA rack “Expedit”. Source: ikea.com
In 2017, I decided to build a PC that would still fit into a rack. I found the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO case – it looked like a black cube and fit perfectly. I assembled a computer for it from new components – with an AMD Ryzen 5 160 processor and a GeForce GTX 1080 video card. I used it for games and VR, but it still worked on Apple laptops.
Two years later, I assembled a PC in the Cooler Master NR200P case – it also fit on that shelf, but took up even less space. I rarely used the computer and sold it in 2021.
/list/macos-games/
12 good games you can run on macOS
The decision to upgrade your PC and the build process
With the proceeds, I bought a Mac Pro 2013, which is popularly called the “bucket”. I wanted to give up my laptop and work on a desktop PC, so I upgraded the RAM and processor as much as possible. I consider the 2013 Mac Pro to be one of the best computers ever made: it’s original and technically advanced. But not perfect – I was put off by high noise levels, macOS software issues, and a weak graphics card.
Then, inspired by the 2013 Mac Pro, I decided to assemble something similar, but on my own. My build had four goals:
Maximum silence. No water cooling, only air. The pumps are noisy, crackling and make all sorts of unpleasant sounds.
Similar dimensions to Mac Pro. The PC should not take up space on the table, it can be put in a backpack and carried away.
Perfect support for macOS. The processor must be from Intel, and the video card must be from Radeon.
Starting Windows for games. There are no restrictions here, because Windows runs on any desktop hardware.
I started building in September 2021. The budget was not limited, but still I did not want to spend more than 300,000 R.
The main feature of the computer is the ACAT S1 aluminum case with a volume of 7 liters. At the time of purchase, it was the smallest full-fledged closed case that can accommodate a discrete graphics card, albeit of a limited length. And the compact SFX-L power supply.

I have given only the components that are now in the PC. I’ll tell you about what I replaced after the first assembly.
Video card. In 2021, the choice was limited, so I put the Sapphire RX570 Pulse into the assembly. In Moscow, the video card was sold for 20,000 R, but in the neighboring region I found it for 14,000 R.
Later, through Avito, I bought a PowerColor RX 5500 XT – the only ad in Russia. It cost me 30,000 R — two and a half times more than it was bought in the store six months before the sale.
In January 2022, I discovered that there were a few Radeon graphics cards in our stores – among them I found the Challenger ITX RX 6600 XT and immediately purchased it. This is the only model of the company in the “short” format.
/best-gpu/
The best video cards for games and work: 6 options from 15,445 R
Flex cable. I inattentively deciphered the description of the case in Chinese and only on the fourth attempt did I correctly select the PCI-E cable for the video card of the required length, shape and fasteners.
WiFi module. The only thing I installed in a PC after 2021. I had to replace the Intel AX210 with Fenvi’s BCM94360NG for native support for wireless interfaces, AirDrop and PC unlock via Apple Watch. I didn’t do it right away because I was afraid that nothing would work. In the then current Z490 and Z590 chipsets, motherboard manufacturers blocked the installation of third-party Wi-Fi modules.
The performance of my PC
I built the computer as a workstation for coding and virtual machines, but it also copes well with heavy tasks – for example, with video editing. And when surfing, the computer is even more responsive than my MacBook Pro 16 with M1 Pro. It’s just more fun to work.
I built a Hackintosh PC because my primary operating system is macOS. Windows for gaming is installed in parallel. All modern games run great at high settings.
From non-standard parameters – I spent a lot of time setting fan curves, and also dropped the frequencies on the video card a little. Lost about 5% of performance, but lowered the temperature by 10-15 °C and extended its life.
The only disadvantage of the assembly is just related to the video card: I hear the whistle of the chokes. In Cinebench R23 Multicore on macOS, the processor heats up to 9 at TDP and PL2 170 W7 °C, then at TDP and PL1 125 W, the temperature drops to 85 °C. In the built-in benchmark of Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows, the processor keeps an average temperature of 82 ° C, the video card – 71 ° C.
Impressions of the computer and plans
The computer fully met my expectations – it copes with all tasks by 100%. Firstly, we got a volume of 7 liters and a weight of 5.5 kg, that is, the PC, plus or minus, is similar to the Mac Pro 2013. As I wanted.
Secondly, the PC is slightly, but still more productive than the Mac Pro 2013, and most importantly, more energy efficient. While coding and surfing, the computer is so quiet that it is almost impossible to hear it. I may have very high noise requirements, but the Mac Pro 2013 seemed loud to me.
After 5 pm Eastern time the office phone generally rings to Aaron’s cell phone. If he doesn’t pickup – he’s probably on the phone. Laser Resurfacing for Better Skin: 9 Things You Must Know
Glass skin. We all want it, and yet that dewy, airbrushed glow is elusive for most of us, regardless of age. Sloughing off dead cells at home with masks, scrubs, glycolics, and retinols can help. And clinical resurfacing procedures that cause slight injuries to the skin — think chemical peels, dermabrasion, or microneedling — can get you there faster. But when you need a supercharged solution, there’s nothing more effective than lasers.
“Lasers are great tools that can help improve various problems of the skin, such as acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and even tattoos and loose skin,” says the New York City–based dermatologist Tara Rao, MD.
RELATED: 10 Things Your Skin Is Trying to Tell You — and How to Respond
What Are Lasers and How Do They Work?
So what exactly is a laser, anyway? The word stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, according to NASA. As used in dermatology, they’re “a skin-resurfacing modality that harnesses the power of light and heat to improve skin tone, texture, and coloration,” says Lara Devgan, MD, a plastic surgeon based in New York City. “It does that by creating a controlled injury in the tissue that stimulates the body to have a healing response that makes it look better.”
When you work out, you intentionally cause small tears to your muscles, which grow back stronger, research notes. Lasers work in a similar way: They use light and heat energy to cause controlled damage to the surface of the skin, so that your body reacts to heal the tissue by creating new skin.
The result? Revved production of collagen, says Rachel Nazarian, MD, which is a benefit that other research shows. With age, collagen production wanes, leading to fine lines and wrinkles, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
If you’ve seen Chelsea Handler’s viral Instagram post of her “before and after” laser treatment, you’re probably already sold on the benefits. And Handler’s not alone: Other celebrity influencers have been touting the effects of their own laser treatments on social media (Drew Barrymore’s makeup-free mug looked angelic as she raved about the benefits of Clear + Brilliant; and Kim Kardashian sometimes makes it seem like having a private laser guru is as indispensable as owning a toothbrush). No wonder laser resurfacing is more popular than ever.
According to a 2018 report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, from 2000 to 2018, laser resurfacing procedures increased by 248 percent, from 170,951 to 600,000.

Still, lasers can pose risks to your skin health. Here’s what you need to know to avoid getting burned.
1. Don’t Assume the Person Operating the Laser Is a Trained Professional
In the era of med spas and Botox bars, the lines between pampering, aesthetics, and medical treatments is increasingly blurred. Inconsistent legislation only compounds the problem.
In New York State, aestheticians often perform laser procedures, according to the state’s department of labor. Most med spas prefer that their aestheticians have some level of study, but the law doesn’t require it. Right across the river in New Jersey, you must be a registered nurse (RN) or a physician assistant (PA), notes the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Other states have their own rules, according to a HairFacts.com’s state-by-state analysis.
As magical as they may seem, lasers aren’t toys. “The thing that makes lasers so powerful and also so dangerous is that tiny fluctuations in how light and heat are manipulated — and the exact wavelength and energy — can be the difference between giving you perfect skin and a catastrophic burn or hyper- or hypopigmentation,” says Dr. Devgan. “The laser itself means very little, compared with the person on the other end of the laser who’s programming the settings and manually putting it on your face.”
So if you’re seeking treatment, it’s smart to see a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist with significant experience in resurfacing laser treatments. “The majority of complications occur in the hands of people who are not derms or plastic surgeons — whether that’s your dentist or a person taking a weekend laser course and buying a laser — which is unfortunately becoming way too prevalent,” says the New York City–based dermatologist Sapna Westley, MD.

The key certifications to look for are from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), the American Board of Dermatology (ABD), or the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology (AOBD). Also check the specific board that has given the expert a professional certification, and be sure they are certified to perform the specific procedure being offered, such as lasers, says Alan Matarasso, MD, a plastic surgeon in New York City and the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

2. Know the Basic Categories of Resurfacing Lasers
There are several key categories of lasers, including ablative and nonablative (the former wounds the skin while the latter doesn’t) as well as fractional. Other therapies, such as light therapies, are gentler options for skin resurfacing.
Ablative
These are the most powerful lasers. They remove the epidermis (the top layer of your skin) and part of your dermis (the second layer of your skin) by superheating water in the skin. This causes controlled vaporization of skin cells, says Manish Shah, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Denver. “The body responds by making new, younger-looking skin,” she says. “The skin gets tighter, while the fine lines are removed and the wrinkles are softened. Sun spots are lightened, and benign skin growths are destroyed.”
Recovery time with ablative lasers is about a week, says Shah. And because skin can be sensitive in the immediate weeks following the procedure, it’s a good idea to use sunscreen for protection. “[Patients] can expect final results in about six months,” she adds, but “stubborn skin conditions might need several treatments to get the best results.”
Examples of ablative lasers are the carbon dioxide laser (CO2), and the newer erbium YAG (Er:YAG), which provides similar benefits but with fewer side effects than the CO2 laser, Nazarian says.
RELATED: 6 Steps for Choosing a Safe and Clean Sunscreen
CO2 Skin-care professionals considered this powerful laser the gold standard in the 1990s and 2000s, and despite the possible side effects (like waxiness and hyperpigmentation), it’s still used sometimes today for its extreme effectiveness. In particular, this laser works well in fair skin tones, Devgan says.
The CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser removes all of the epidermis and some of the dermis, according to a scientific review of techniques. Typical recovery time is two weeks, Devgan says.
Despite their continued presence in dermatologists’ offices, “the industry as a whole doesn’t use them that much anymore, because erbium lasers can accomplish basically all those things with fewer side effects,” Devgan adds.
Erbium Many healthcare professionals prefer this ablative laser for aggressive resurfacing with fewer side effects than CO2 lasers and its shorter downtime, according to a review published in August 2017 in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapies. “It’s powerful but also highly specific, so it can be very customized to treat a variety of different skin tones and a variety of concerns, from fine lines to texture, melasma, hyperpigmentation, irregularities in tone and coloration to overall luster of the skin,” Devgan says.
Nonablative
Dubbed “nonwounding” lasers by the Mayo Clinic, nonablative lasers are gentler than their ablative counterpart. “While ablative lasers direct their energy at the top layer of skin to renew the most superficial parts, nonablative lasers work by directing their energy much lower into the deeper tissue,” Nazarian says.
According to a review published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, while the results of nonablative lasers are mild, they are better for people with darker skin because they pose a low risk of hyper- or hypopigmentation. If you’re okay with getting slower results over a longer period of time and undergoing more sessions, this is the laser for you.

Fractionated
Since hitting the market in 2004, fractionated lasers have become game changers. “The fractionated laser delivers heat and light in a pixelated fashion,” says The New York City celebrity cosmetic dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, MD. “So instead of burning 100 percent of the skin, there are almost these digital pixels of laser that destroy the target, allowing for quick healing without causing trauma to 100 percent of the skin at one time.”
Think of them as a “medium” option between ablative and nonablative lasers, Devgan says. “The idea is that you can get a lot of the benefits of an ablative laser, but a little bit less downtime [recovery time] because there are small islands of dermal elements that help the tissues heal a little bit faster,” she says.
Among fractionated lasers, the brand Fraxel has become like Xerox or Kleenex — almost synonymous with the category. Fraxel lasers can be divided into many types, based on how ablative or nonablative the treatment is. For example, there’s Fraxel Restore, a nonablative option; Fraxel Repair, an ablative fractionated CO2 laser; and Fraxel Dual, a nonbablative option with two lasers: one to target pigmentation and sun damage and the other to target wrinkles and acne scarring.

Light Therapies
Another popular nonabalative treatment, as the Mayo Clinic notes, are light therapies, which are also known as intense pulsed light (IPL) or violet-blue light (VBL). They aren’t lasers, nor do they resurface skin. Instead, they’re a “rejuvenating” therapy, Westley says.
They achieve many of the same results that lasers do, but in a more targeted, gentler way. “Instead of using one laser that focuses on your skin, [light therapy] uses several wavelengths of light at once,” says Sheel Desai Solomon, MD, a board-certified dermatology in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
Devgan says light therapies won’t give you those dramatic before-and-after photos, but they’re great for skin maintenance, “especially for the younger population that doesn’t need much work.” Just keep in mind that because it’s gentler, you’ll need more sessions to see serious results, Devgan says.
Shah adds that this technology carries few risks, but there are still problems with burns and pigmentation abnormalities. “Topical anesthesia is usually enough to make light therapies tolerable.”
Additional Lasers
Of course, it’s important to note there are many other types of resurfacing lasers that specifically target coloration such redness or pigment, as well as treating everything from rosacea, spider veins, sun spots, and melasma to scar and tattoo removal. Some of these include Q-switched, pulsed dye, Nd:YAG, and Picosecond. The PicoSure brand laser falls in this relatively new and promising category.
3. Don’t Get Hung Up on Laser Brand Names
One problem with the surging popularity of laser treatments is that you may think you’re already an expert in this field because you saw an Instagram post or have peers who’ve undergone laser treatments themselves. But Westley says the brand names of the lasers are less important than the wavelengths used and the knowledge level of the health professional performing the treatment. “There are parameters, and we need to know what settings to use, and everyone comes with a different skin type. And with darker skin you have to be more cautious with the settings,” Westley says. “I’ve seen a lot of people end up with burns and scarring post lasers because wrong wavelengths were used, or they were undertreated and they didn’t get the results that they could have gotten.”
The focus on brands instead of the overarching wavelengths or categories, and their capabilities and limitations, can leave you uninformed and prone to limited, if not unwise, choices. “It’s sort of like if you only knew Coca-Cola, but you weren’t able to put it in the category of dark-colored sodas,” Devgan says.

4. Work With Your Dermatologist to Choose the Right Laser for You
It’s wise to get treatment from someone who has experience operating a range of lasers, says Westley. “Doctors with several machines are able to customize the treatments in terms of what wavelengths of lasers they would do the best with, and sometimes it’s a combination of various lasers and wavelengths.”
Dr. Frank agrees. “The current and future of noninvasive cosmetic dermatology is in combining a lot of small things to get big results, so you can’t just go to someone that only offers one device,” he says.
So if you’re considering getting a laser treatment, make sure you understand the pros and cons, and be sure to ask about recovery time.

5. Come to Your Consultation Armed With Questions
“The basic rule of thumb with lasers is that the more aggressive the treatment, the more downtime and the better the result,” says Devgan. “The less aggressive the treatment, the less downtime and also the less dramatic the result and the more treatments you’ll need to get a nice outcome. ”
For example, says Devgan, IPL could be a great treatment for somebody who is busy and simply wants to maintain their skin. But if you’re seeking a 180-degree transformation, this may not be the right option for you.
Before you meet with a doctor, make a list of the top three things that are bothering you about your skin. Ultimately, your dermatologist can help you weigh the factors against one another to help you identify the right laser or light therapy.
6. If You Have a Dark Skin Tone, Approach Lasers With Caution
Not all skin colors react to lasers the same way. Dermatologists utilize the Fitzpatrick scale, a system of classifying human skin color, to estimate the response of different types of skin to ultraviolet (UV) light. According to this system, there are five basic categories, with 1 being the lightest and 6 having the most melanin.
“It’s possible to use any type of laser on any skin tone, but you have to be very mindful,” says Devgan. “The risk with more pigment in the skin is hyperpigmentation, which paradoxically means you’re risking making someone have more blotchiness or darkness or brown spots on their skin as an unwanted side effect when maybe that’s exactly what they’re trying to treat.
“Overall, my approach is to be very conservative when lasering Fitzpatrick skin types 4, 5, 6.”
But that doesn’t mean darker skin tones need to shy away from lasers completely. Instead, practice caution and find a provider who has experience using the laser that is best for your skin type, and who can best assess the value versus risks. “A common misconception is that laser resurfacing is only safe for light skin types,” says Solomon. “While it’s true that certain lasers pose a higher risk for cell damage or discoloration in darker skin, there are safe and effective resurfacing options. For lighter-toned African American, Hispanic, or Asian skin tones, erbium lasers can sometimes be a good option, posing less risk for discoloration. ”
Nonetheless, Solomon says sometimes patients with “darker brown or black skin may need to consider other skin resurfacing options, such as radio-frequency treatments or microneedling.”

7. Know That Lasers Can Help Treat Acne Scars, but They Aren’t Good for Active Acne
“Lasers and other light therapies may seem like the perfect acne treatment — just beam a light to make the acne disappear,” Solomon says. But it’s not that simple.
Lasers can be effective for resurfacing acne scars, but for active acne, you’ll want to opt for treatment with blue or blue-red light, advises the American Academy of Dermatology.
Devgan says she often treats patients with acne scars by using an erbium laser for resurfacing. “If someone has active acne, I would do something more like an intense pulsed light with an acne reduction filter,” she says.
According to a study published in the May–June 2015 issue of the Indian Dermatology Online Journal, IPL and photodynamic light therapies can help reduce inflammation and acne scarring, but they are less effective on whiteheads and blackheads, or on cysts or nodules. To give you the best results, your dermatologist may recommend using another acne treatment, such as medicine that you apply to your skin. Results vary from person to person. “Right now, there’s no way to know who will see clearer skin and how much the skin will clear when treated with a laser or other light treatment,” Devgan says. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), multiple treatments deliver significantly better results than a single treatment.

8. Keep Your Expectations in Check
Lasers are powerful and can produce amazing results, but they aren’t miracle machines. Depending on your specific skin condition and the kind of treatments you get, results can take time, and repeat sessions may be necessary, even with the most aggressive laser.
“Anything that involves epithelial cells, like in your skin, nails, and hair, is going to require retreatment. That would be like having the best gel manicure of your life; you’re still going to need a new one [at some point]. Or the best hair colorist in the world; you’re still going to get roots. These epithelial cells will always turn over. Whatever you do is going to require maintenance at home in your daily routine.” And while your results may last several years, per the ABPS, they’re not permanent.

9. Understand That Maintaining Your Results Is in Your Hands
“If somebody is going to be investing time and money into a laser routine at the doctor’s office, it’s really vital that they do a good topical maintenance routine at home to optimize the results of the treatment,” says Westley. “Home regimes should include regular use of retinoids, vitamin C serum, and sunscreen, of course.”
Devgan agrees that at-home maintenance is key, as is avoiding behavior patterns that are going to re-create problems for you. “If you go out into the sun or you skip using your retinoid or you touch your face and continue to break out, no laser will save you,” she says. “You have to have the behavior modification also. Then also, just be very wary of anything that sounds too good to be true, because as they say, it probably is.”

Alexandrite-neodymium laser Duetto Quanta System (Italy)
One of the greatest things to come out of the modern age of home recording is the demand for accessible gear. So-called budget studio headphones used to cost well over $200 USD, but the 1980s are long gone, and what used to be tough-to-reach purchases are much more accessible to more people. The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro has long been a favorite of musicians to monitor their tracks, and while there are some tradeoffs, it might be the headset for you too.
Editor’s note: this Sennheiser HD 280 Pro review was updated on April 5, 2022, to add context to the sound quality section and add an FAQ section.
Audio engineers will want to try out the HD 280 Pro for its fairly neutral frequency response, tight seal over the ears, and comfortable fit. This is a great option for mixing or tracking for long recording sessions.
Podcasters will benefit from accurate midrange and treble reproduction when editing episodes.
What’s it like to use the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro?
Mostly plastic and wired, the HD 280 Pro is all about utility.
The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is the epitome of boring, utilitarian design; inside and out, there really are no fancy features to speak of. All you do to start up is plug the 3.5mm jack in and you’re ready to go. You might even go wild and use the included 1/4 inch adapter, but that’s really it. The markers to identify which side is left and which is right are only very faintly marked on the inside of the hinges in a tiny font, so you just have to remember that the wire hangs from the left.
Related: Why I’m sticking to wired headphones
Regardless of how boring the headphones look, the HD 280 Pro makes its name on durability and utility. That’s not to say Sennheiser forgot about comfort, as the HD 280 Pro has ample padding where it counts. You shouldn’t run into much discomfort even after several hours wearing glasses, besides some heat build-up. The clamping force is just right, at least for my relatively small head. The closed-back ear cups establish a decent seal, which brings enough isolation to prompt an “excuse me?” when someone out of view asks a question, but by no means are these active noise canceling headphones.
Because the HD 280 Pro is relatively affordable it lacks some luxuries. The wire on the left ear cup is not removable, but the coiled cable does a lot to alleviate stress on the solder points. You shouldn’t have to replace it unless you straight-up abuse the thing.
Is the HD 280 portable?
Not the most portable headset out there, but the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro has articulating arms to help it fold in.
The headset is rather large, but the ear cups swivel, and the sides articulate to make the HD 280 Pro’s footprint a tad smaller. It’s not a headset marketed for the commuter, and Sennheiser doesn’t include a case. In addition, the jack is substantial and could get in the way or not fit with a phone case, so the answer is not really.
The sheer weight of the cable managed to drag my phone off the desk twice, so I can’t picture a scenario in which you’d want to take these headphones on a bus. Commuting with studio headphones kind of misses the point anyway; there’s a time and a place for monitors, and the subway ain’t usually it. The headphones’ matte plastic exterior means you don’t need to worry much about scratching or marking it up, at least.
How well does the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro block out noise?
The higher the pink line the more sounds in those frequencies are isolated.
The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is not a noise canceling headset, so any noise that gets blocked out is due to the seal of the earpads to your head. Closed-back headphones tend to perform reasonably well compared to open-back ones in this regard. The HD 280 Pro blocks out high-frequency noise handily, while mids are only deadened by half to three-quarters in loudness (the higher the pitch, the better the headphones block out noise). Typical of non-ANC headphones, the HD 280 Pro does not attenuate low frequencies all that well.
How does the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro sound?
For the most part the HD 280 Pro (in cyan) follows the studio curve (in pink) closely except in the lows.
The headphones have a fairly accurate frequency response with a few minor deviations from our house curve. You won’t hear any over-emphasized sounds with the HD 280 Pro, which makes it a strong candidate for mixing and monitoring recordings in a studio. If you were thinking this was a pair of consumer Sennheiser headphones, you’ll get something a bit different than what you expected.
Lows
Technically, Sennheiser states that the HD 280 Pro has a frequency response of 8Hz-25kHz, which could give the impression that it has strong bass, but it is not a “basshead” headset. First off, people can’t hear below 20Hz, so the 8Hz number is somewhat irrelevant. Secondly, there’s a drop between 50-100Hz, which can make some lower-pitched rumbles sound weirdly quiet compared to its neighboring low notes. Like a valley, it pops back up in volume on either side. Because studio curves aim for neutrality the sub bass is a little louder than ideal, however, it’ll hardly blow your ears out. Not much happens musically below 60Hz.
The wired connection means that the HD 280 Pro has a frequency range down to 8Hz, not that you’ll probably hear it.
Just Do You by Lord Echo (ft. Mara TK), which has a significant bass section, sounds good on the HD 280 Pro. The song isn’t bass-heavy whatsoever on the headset, so it’s easy to hear midrange notes that other headsets may mask. In other words, you’ll hear the low end percussive groove that thrusts Just Do You forward.
Related: Best headphones under $100
Anything from the 1970s or earlier that hasn’t been remastered for digital release will lack quite a lot of bass with the HD 280 Pro. Rock Your Baby by George McCrae is pretty light on the kick due to the use of an early drum machine, the Roland TR 77, but basically it has no low end thump, unless I put on the 2012 remaster. Meanwhile, the bass guitar all but disappears in the original master. With that said, listening on the HD 280 Pro makes it patently obvious at 4:32, that the stereo mixed drum machine switches to exclusively a right pan, which speaks to the headset’s detailed reproduction.
Mids
Reasonably good clamping force helps you hear all frequencies best.
Alto singers in particular sound great on these headphones, which makes sense, given that range is typically from 180-700Hz. These frequencies are the sweet spot for the HD 280 Pro and happen to also be where the headphones most closely align with our target curve. The HD 280 Pro allowed me to hear new lyrics to songs I’d previously found imperceptible.
Highs
Falsetto and soprano voices that occupy those higher ranges sound less impressive than on other headphones. George McCrae’s smooth falsetto on Rock Your Baby lacks dimension due to this decibel drop where those higher frequencies reside. Mara TK still sounds good on Just Do You because he’s a talented singer, but the song’s vocals aren’t on par with the best headphones due to the frequency curve on the upper registers.
Ample cushioning is comfortable, but can get hot after a couple of hours.
Some people will feel cymbals sound “hollow” coming through the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. On tracks with a lot of fast cymbals and tambourines like What a Pity by Spook School they sound more like metal trashcan lids than a high-quality metal instrument. On other tracks, the cymbals sound a little too slow, and there are few reasons for this.
Related: The best studio headphones
The HD 280 Pro’s minor under-emphasis (compared to our studio curve) between 2-8kHz, and the steep drop above 10kHz gives the impression of a quieter cymbal due in part to lowered volume on the initial crack of the crash. This lowered volume on the initial hit (of the cymbal, or any sound in that range) to reaching peak volume the brain interprets as less attack. Having the impression of less attack is fine—sometimes desirable—on an infrequent sound. The human brain, however, can’t process this fast enough to distinguish the sounds. This makes it seem like everything bleeds together during a fast repeating sound, like multiple crash cymbals back-to-back.
What’s the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro good for?
Swiveling ear cups means singers can listen in the room in one ear and through the headphones with the other.
After several hours of testing music from different genres and eras, I’ve become accustomed to the particulars of how this headset sounds and discovered that like the famously polarizing Yamaha NS10 monitors, if a song can sound good on the HD 280 Pro, then it’s well mixed. Songs that really vibe on these headphones will sound good or better on almost anything else. If you’re producing music: that’s an extremely valuable tool.
For mixing purposes, if a song sounds good on the HD 280 Pro, it’ll be just as good or better on anything else.
If you’re an audio engineer, a podcaster, or in a band, the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is a versatile piece of kit. The closed-back ear cups are ideal for recording tracks, because they minimize dreaded sound leakage. The sound staging (how well you’re detecting the panning left to right) is wide for a closed-back headset, which makes it easier to pick out instruments than other closed-back options—also important when mixing.
Should you buy the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro?
The HD 280 Pro is considerably comfortable with glasses on.
If you’re looking for a solid budget-conscious reference headset, you should consider the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. If you have a higher budget, by all means explore other options like the AKG K371, but for about $100 USD there’s a spot in every studio for the HD 280 Pro. It doesn’t have to be your main headset, but if you need a backup or a second pair to mix with or track without the pains of leakage, it’s great.

Also, I stand by my controversial statement that the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is the studio headphone equivalent of the Yamaha NS10 monitor. Make something sound good on these headphones and it’ll sound good on most other drivers. That’s reason enough to pick up a pair.
What should you get instead of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro?
Audio-Technica’s ATH-M40x may receive a lesser model number than the M50x, but that doesn’t mean it’s a lesser headphone.
At about the same price you can pick up the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. It comes with removable cables that have proprietary locking mechanisms, and you can get a headset with a non-removable cable for less with the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x. The HD 280 Pro sports a slightly more accurate frequency response. Interestingly, both sets have similar features such as a drop around 80Hz and a bump around 100Hz. Whereas the HD 280 Pro has a touch too much in the sub-bass, the ATH-M40x has a notable under-emphasis. Pick your poison.
Both headphones perform similarly with passive isolation. The main difference in terms of sound is in the highs where the ATH-M40x tends to exaggerate somewhat. If used to monitor while tracking a recording, this emphasis can have its uses for vocalists hearing themselves back.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones review
Today, we’ll be reviewing the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones. These are a controversial pair of headphones for many, so let’s take a deeper look to see why.
Our verdict on the HD 280 Pro 4.0
They’re not the most accurate headphones, and they surely aren’t the most comfortable, but the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro have earned their place as an industry standard regardless.
When it comes to midrange clarity and noise cancellation for tracking, the Sennheisers are a phenomenal option, and for $100 who can complain.
Available at: SweetwaterAmazon
Power and frequency response 4.0
The HD 280 Pros have an impressive frequency response of 8 Hz – 25 kHz. However, despite its extended low end, the bass isn’t as prominent as one might expect.
There is a -5 dB cutoff from around 50 – 100 Hz, so while you’ll still be able to hear the harmonics of the bass and kick, the full body of the low end will be subdued by quite a large margin.
The sweet spot of the HD 280 Pros lies at around 180 Hz – 700 Hz, making alto singers and strings sound phenomenally clear.
The high end is fraught with inconsistencies, however. Seeing that there is a slight dip around 2 kHz – 8 kHz, instruments occupying this portion of the upper register will bleed together.
This is somewhat expected from a pair of headphones in this price range, and to be frank, the midrange is the more important aspect of the mix to nail.
So, while these aren’t perfect headphones by any standards, they’re good enough for most scenarios.
Build quality 3.8
The Sennheisers are made out of a dense plastic, making them quite sturdy and resistant to the wear and tear of accidental droppings and miscellaneous physical stress.
One major flaw these headphones have is the lack of a detachable cable. Nowadays, headphones having replaceable cables has become the standard, seeing that the wires are usually the first things to go sour with any new purchase.
While this isn’t necessarily the worst thing, we warn you to be careful of how you treat them in order for the headphones to last.
Comfortability 2.8
These headphones are adequate in terms of comfortability. The earcups are large enough, but we found the padding to be rather slim.
Also, the headband is rather tight. Some may prefer a fit with a bit more clamp to it, but we could easily see somebody becoming aggravated with it – especially for longer sessions.
Stability 2.0
They slide off the head fairly easily and aren’t recommended for working out or other intense physical activities.
They’re stable enough for working in the studio, but with one small issue. Again, the non-detachable cable can be a bit of a nuisance if the cord ever gets hooked on to some gear.
Noise cancellation and isolation 3.5
Noise cancellation is one of the HD 280 Pro’s strong suits. There is no active cancellation occurring in the low end, so passing cars and trains will most likely overpower whatever you’re listening to.
However, in the midrange, they can isolate by a bit more than 11 dB while for the high end nearly 30 dB.
In other words, these headphones are phenomenal for tracking.
Accessories 3.5
There aren’t many accessories to mention here. Upon your purchase of the HD 280 Pros you’ll receive the headphones, an 1/8″ – 1/4″ adapter, and the manual.
Not that these things are incredibly important but it would’ve been nice to see a carrying pouch (and a replacement cable).
Compared to other studio headphones
While the Sennheiser HD 280 Pros may be the perfect headphones for you, here are some other options to consider as an alternative.
HD 280 Pro vs. Audio-Technica ATH-M40x
To our understanding, the M40x are slightly more accurate than the Sennheisers, but not by much. The Audio-Technicas are surely more comfortable, and have a lot more bass. They do have a lot of bleed, so be wary of using them for tracking.
Check out our Audio-Technica ATH-M40x review
HD 280 Pro vs. Audio-Technica ATH-M50x
The ATH-M50x is the superior pair of headphones as far as we’re concerned. They’re far more accurate and pleasing where it counts.
You can use them for either critical or casual listening, whereas you can’t do either as reliably on the Sennheisers.
HD 280 Pro vs. Sony MDR-7506
While the MDR-7506 have held their place as an industry standard for some time, they aren’t without their flaws. The 7506 are generally better for mixing, but the HD 280 Pro outshines them in terms of clarity.
The trade-off here is of course comfortability, in which case the Sonys are the clear winner.
Check out our Sony MDR-7506 review
HD 280 Pro vs. Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro
These are far more comfortable and far better for mixing and mastering purposes in our opinion. If you can, get the DT 770 Pro.

Review Sennheiser HD 280 Pro
The German manufacturer of acoustics Sennheiser is familiar to ordinary consumers primarily for the variety of headphones for home listening to music, headsets for mobile phones and gaming headphones. But still, most of the solutions produced by the company are headphones for musicians, sound engineers and audiophiles.
General
This review focuses on the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, an update to the well-known HD 280 headphones produced by the company since the early 2000s. These headphones gained immense fame for their incredible performance at the time, including a range of 8 to 25,000 Hz at an input impedance of 64 ohms. The relatively low price and decent build quality have made the model popular not only among famous musicians, but also among many DJs, novice producers and audiophiles. The characteristics of the HD 280 made it possible to work with any amplifiers and sound cards without much distortion. Many vinyl collectors have given their preference to these headphones.
As time went on, the German company released new models of headphones, but the demand for the HD 280 did not decrease, and Sennheiser released a new, slightly modified model of headphones, which received the Pro prefix. The body of the new headphones has become lighter and more durable, the mechanism for folding and turning the cups has been redesigned. The high quality of the speakers remained unchanged.
Exterior
Packed Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones in a fairly large box. The design of the packaging is made in the same style as the headphones, and the predominant color is black. The front part bears the image of the headphones themselves, the model name and the large Sennheiser logo. The back part reports brief characteristics and information about the manufacturer. There is nothing superfluous inside the box, only headphones on a plastic transport stand, instructions and an adapter for 6.3 mm jacks.
The product data sheet deserves special attention. In addition to the detailed technical characteristics of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, you can even find instructions for disassembling the headphones and a description of the parts that you can replace yourself in the event of a breakdown. Manufacturers devoted several pages to readings of various measurements indicating the high quality of the speakers used in the HD 280 Pro.
Sennheiser prefers to use a combination of plastic and metal parts in its products. The hero of today’s review is made entirely of matte plastic. The HD 280 Pro inherits its predecessor’s austere features and some elements from premium products. There are no bright and catchy elements, aluminum inserts or meshes in these headphones. The only element that differs in color is the name of the model, written on the left and right cups in a corporate font.
Available in black only. All parts of the body fit each other clearly, there are no squeaks and backlashes. This also applies to the mechanisms for folding cups for transport. The ear pads and headband are made of faux leather. Inside – soft filler. The artificial leather is perforated, so there is no discomfort associated with sweating after prolonged use. If necessary, the headband and ear pads can be removed for cleaning or replacement.
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro non-detachable cable without fabric braid. Nevertheless, it looks quite durable, the experience of using previous models speaks of the reliability of the materials used in the production of this case element. It reminds us that we have a professional model and also a type of twisted cable. In the normal state, the length is 1.7 m, while the cable can easily be stretched up to 3 m. At the base, it is protected by plastic from fractures. To connect to a sound source, you can use several options:
familiar to many 3.5 mm jack, compatible with any consumer audio equipment;
6.3 mm connector used in professional musical equipment.
To attach the adapter to the cable, simply screw it onto the main 3.5 mm jack. Both connectors are gold-plated and branded. The thread on the adapter is standard for such connectors, and in case of loss it can be replaced with a similar one.
Specifications
The design of the HD 280 Pro does not really set the headphones apart from other Sennheiser closed headphones. All the most important lies inside. Measurements offered for study by official and independent sources, as well as personal experience, convince us that the HD 280 Pro has an ideal frequency balance.
Despite the initial positioning of the headphones as monitor headphones, it is difficult to call them 100% like that. Passport data Sennheiser HD 280 Pro report the following:
frequency range in the range from 8 to 25000 Hz;
input impedance – 64 Ohm;
sensitivity – 113 dB;
load – 500W;
THD – 0.1%.
The low frequencies produced by this model’s speakers are really bright. The frequency response graph shows that low and medium frequencies are reproduced without dips, the structure is linear. High frequencies are pronounced, do not overlap all the others, but are not muffled either.
Listening to home acoustics, a smartphone or an inexpensive player may not satisfy everyone. This is explained primarily by the high impedance of 64 ohms. Accordingly, insufficient output power of the sound source adversely affects the sound quality of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. The main thing that can be noticed is a slight but noticeable subsidence in volume. Modern PCs and smartphones are equipped with high-performance audio chips that deliver good signal strength, so you don’t have to worry about sound quality.
The soundproofing of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro deserves special attention. The ear pads completely cover the ears and, despite the particularly strong pressure of the headband, they press the cups quite tightly to the head. When listening to music at medium volume, sounds from the outside are absolutely not audible.
Consumer reviews of the design of the
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro may disappoint those who are looking for bright and eye-catching design when buying headphones. This headphone model, as mentioned above, is designed more for home listening. Fans of classic strict forms will appreciate the appearance of the model. The HD 280 Pro looks exactly like a true professional instrument.
Comfort above all: design feedback
At first, after buying the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, you will feel a little uncomfortable because of the headband. The design feature obliges that the headphones need to be adjusted for themselves. The headband is easily adjustable in height. Adjustment is effortless and every position of the headband is securely locked in place.
For added comfort, the ear cups rotate 90 degrees from the base to help seal the earcups more closely to your ears.
Advantages and disadvantages of the
model Without a doubt, these headphones are among the best in their category. If you try to briefly highlight the list of their advantages, then here’s what happens:
excellent noise isolation Sennheiser HD 280 Pro due to a comfortable headband and quality ear pads;
rich and balanced sound, good disclosure of the musical picture, without excessive low frequencies;
Robust housing and swivel design, replaceable ear cushions and headband elements;
headphone adjustment for a comfortable fit on the head;
cable is equally convenient for everyday use and for studio sessions;
folds flat for easy transport;
are not demanding on the sound source.
Headphones from Sennheiser were not without flaws. Most of them are connected with exclusively everyday moments:
when using the HD 280 Pro for a long time in the summer, discomfort arises;
sound problems when connecting to old players and sound cards due to insufficient output power;
the wire is heavy and sometimes tangled, therefore not always convenient for daily use outside the home;
due to the fact that the cable is non-removable, it gets tangled during transportation, and this also leads to additional difficulties when replacing a failed wire.
Price and rivals
Price is an advantage of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, which can be taken apart from the general list. The reviewed headphones are not the cheapest option of their kind. Undoubtedly, you can find models both from Sennheiser and from other manufacturers with similar characteristics and ergonomics. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to choose a model so practical and versatile. Among the closest competitors are the following models:
Sony MDR-100AAP, which have a brighter design and a similar body structure. With a frequency range of 5 to 60,000 Hz and 24 ohm impedance, these headphones are more suitable for everyday use;
Sennheiser HD 380 PRO is a more modern model designed for home listening to music in good quality due to insufficient sound insulation. Frequency response similar to HD 280 Pro at 54 ohms. The package includes a convenient hard case;
PIONEER HRM-5 are lightweight and comfortable monitor headphones for home and studio use. The housing design is more ergonomic than the HD 280 Pro, but the characteristics of the emitters are significantly inferior.
What are headphones best for?
The rapid development of wearable electronics makes it possible to listen to high quality music in sufficiently powerful headphones. Modern smartphones of the middle and high price range are equipped with DACs, allowing you to listen to music in high-bitrate formats (WAV, FLAC and others) on the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro without losing volume and subsiding in frequencies.
It is possible to recommend the purchase of such headphones for everyday use, but it is worth considering one nuance. Despite the relatively small weight of this model, it is worth remembering that they are of a closed type and long listening can cause discomfort. If there are no problems with walking in winter, sweating cannot be avoided in summer. The perforated coating of the ear pads does not cope with its tasks at high temperatures.
The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is an ideal purchase for musicians looking for a relatively inexpensive but high-quality home studio option. Minimal distortion and high input impedance will allow you to hear the created material as it, in fact, should be. The comfortable design and the highest possible sound isolation make the HD 280 Pro a good choice for DJs.
With the included 6.3 mm adapter, the headphones can be used with any professional sound source. Do not forget about the durable design that protects the headphones from the most extreme situations. The headphone mechanism allows you to fold them for compact carrying. When folded, the Sennheiser fits easily into a backpack or bag.
The updated HD 280 Pro is a worthy option for vinyl collectors and novice audiophiles. A wide range of reproducible frequencies will allow you to listen to vinyl records and uncompressed versions of tracks without much distortion with almost perfect noise isolation.
In conclusion
Summing up, we can say with confidence that the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is a fairly balanced model. They are great for both unpretentious listeners who use a smartphone as their main sound source, and professional sound engineers.
Given the variety of headphones produced by the famous German brand, it’s safe to say that the HD 280 Pro will go down in history.

The frequency response graph shows the frequency loudness balance (reproducible frequency spectrum) of the headphones. If we produce a sine of a specific frequency by supplying it with a constant level and fix the pressure level at the headphone output in a special chamber that emulates the ear, then by going over the frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, we will get the original frequency response graph. The frequency response graph in RAA is obtained through the reproduction and analysis of a special noise signal, followed by obtaining an impulse response in ARTA. According to the spectrum of the impulse response, a graph of the frequency response is plotted. RAA plot scale is similar to RMAA acoustic test plot scale with 6dB grid spacing and span of 90 dB A difference of 6 dB is equivalent to twice the ratio of signal levels.
The impedance graph shows the headphone impedance versus frequency. The resistance scale is presented on a logarithmic scale. The graph is obtained through the reproduction and analysis of a special noise signal in LIMP (LIMP is included in the ARTA test package).

If you want a perfectly browned turkey or an evenly cooked ham, a convection oven is what you need. Let’s look at how a convection oven works and the best applications for it in your cooking.
The difference between a traditional oven and a convection oven is the airflow cycling that the convection features. The hot air is blown around the food and vented out in a convection oven. This creates a dry heat that can crisp the outside without drying the inside of your food.
Like a traditional oven, a convection oven still hosts heating elements that produce the heat, so technically it has radiant heat and forced hot air as cooking sources. This system is very efficient, and you may find you need to adjust the temperature and cooking time of your recipes. It tends to cook faster and more evenly than a traditional oven.
“It’s precision cooking and yes, it makes a huge difference,” says our expert Vicki Liston, host of the award-winning home improvement show “On the Fly…DIY.”
“Have you ever cooked something in the oven, a microwave or a traditional toaster oven and had the item cook unevenly? Or experienced ‘hot spots?’ A convection oven solves these cooking irritations,” says Liston. “It preheats faster than a traditional oven and uses less power to run. In the summer months, it makes cooking much more bearable as it doesn’t heat up your entire house during operation.”
When you first start using a convection oven, it’s smart to pay close attention to the food while it’s cooking. There are certain foods such as bread and cake that need time to rise that don’t do well in a convection oven. If you are cooking a recipe for the first time in the oven, try decreasing the temperature by 25 degrees from the suggested temperature. This will ensure thorough cooking without burning.
Another thing to remember when cooking with a convection oven is the type of pan you use for your food. Shallow dishes do best with convection because it increases the surface area that the heated air touches. Many baking dishes have been adapted for convection purposes but consider updating your bakeware for the best results.
Some convection ovens feature sensors and presets for different foods. The presets should be used as guidelines and can be reliable with some foods. Sensors are not always reliable but can help you gauge how long and what temperature to cook certain foods when you first start out. They should also be used as a guide. Another handy tool to have on hand when first starting out with a convection oven is a thermometer probe. This will come in particular use when cooking meat dishes. Remember to always keep an eye on food in a convection oven since it cooks much faster than a traditional oven.
There are all different styles of countertop convection ovens. From a drop-down door to a French door opening, you will find a style that works in your kitchen. Some models feature stylish knobs for programming the settings. They are all designed with large digital displays so you can see exactly how long and what temperature you’ve set it to.
According to Liston, convection ovens are “ridiculously versatile.” “You could replace several kitchen appliances by getting one,” says Liston. “Many people consider the amount of counter space taken up to be a drawback. However, if you didn’t need an air fryer, a toaster, a microwave, a dehydrator, a slow cooker and even a plate warmer, would you make the switch? In fact, it can save you space in the long run!”
Adjust temperatures and times of recipes when first starting out with your oven.
Baked goods that need to rise will not do well in the convection oven.
Meats that need crispy exteriors will do great in the convection oven.
Remember to leave plenty of space around your convection oven for the best ventilation.

What are the sizes of microwave ovens
Microwave ovens have long and firmly entered into household use. They are indispensable where you need to quickly warm up lunch or defrost food, cook pastries or porridge in five minutes. And devices with a grill or oven are also used for full-fledged cooking, replacing the stove.
When buying a microwave oven, we take into account what we are going to use it for, who exactly will use it, as well as the composition of the family and the size of the kitchen. Based on this, we select the type and volume of the microwave, power, set of functions and, of course, the dimensions of the device.
The Hausdorff online store of elite household appliances offers customers microwave ovens for kitchens of any style in all price categories.
Depending on the type of placement, you can choose a desktop or built-in model.
Stand-alone ones take up a lot of space on the countertop. You can install them on a cabinet only if the height of users allows it. A large desktop model can take up the entire tabletop, and it is impractical to clean it after each use.
Embedded models can have a much larger scope and feature set. They are installed in a cabinet, cabinet or niche, in harmony with the situation, and do not interfere with cooking.
Microwave standard dimensions
A microwave oven of 15-30 liters is considered standard. It is suitable for one or two people, as well as for large families.
Most freestanding microwave ovens are 45-50 cm wide, about 30 cm high and 35-45 cm deep.
Such, for example, is the Kaiser M 2500 ElfEm microwave oven in ivory retro style with bronze fittings. Its volume is 25 liters, height is 28 cm, width is 48 cm, and depth is 36 cm.
Built-in microwave ovens with the same capacity are about 60 cm wide (standard size for built-in appliances), about 40 cm high and 30 to 40 cm deep.

The popular built-in model Neff HLAWD23N0 has a volume of 20 liters, its height is 38 cm, its width is 60 cm, and its depth is 31 cm.
Non-standard sizes of microwave ovens
In addition to standard models, it is customary to distinguish:
Small microwave ovens up to 20 liters, up to 45 cm wide and 35-40 cm deep. Among them, there are both free-standing and built-in ones. So, a small free-standing model Gorenje MO 4250 CLI with a volume of 20 liters reaches a height of 28.5 cm, a width of 45 cm, a depth of 36 cm.
Narrow microwave ovens up to 50 cm wide. Mostly these are free-standing models, but there are also built-in ones. For example, Gorenje Plus GOM811X with a width of 45 cm has an increased height of 60 cm and a depth of 54 cm.
Large microwave ovens from 30 to 55 liters. There are few free-standing microwaves of this volume. For example, the 34-liter Smeg MOE34CXI has rather small dimensions: 31 cm high, 52 cm wide and 37 cm deep.
Built-in ovens of this volume are multifunctional built-in devices, the large capacity of which is achieved not due to an increase in dimensions, but due to an improved design. For example, the dimensions of the Asko OM8487S for 53 liters do not differ from the standard ones. Its height is 45 cm, width is 60 cm, and depth is 55 cm.
If you decide to purchase a built-in model, you can read about its dimensions and installation features in our article “Dimensions of built-in microwave ovens”.
Regardless of the type of device, you should pay attention to the following installation features:
Flat top, cabinet or niche shelf, hanging shelf;
The distance between the microwave oven and the wall is at least 10 cm;
Proximity to a power outlet and connection without an extension cord;
Space in front for free opening of the door.
When ordering any model in the Hausdorf online store, managers will answer all questions and help arrange delivery and connection.

How a microwave oven works. Help
October 8 marks the 65th anniversary of the patenting of microwave oven technology.
A microwave oven (microwave oven, microwave oven) is one of the most popular household electrical appliances and is designed for quick cooking, heating food and for defrosting food. Its creator, Percy Spencer, a resident of Massachusetts, patented his invention on October 8, 1945.
According to legend, the idea of creating a microwave oven came to his mind after he, standing by a magnetron (electronic lamp that generates microwave electromagnetic radiation), discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. According to another version, he noticed that the sandwich placed on the switched on magnetron was heated up.
The first microwave ovens, intended for army canteens and large restaurants, were cabinets 175 cm high and weighing 340 kg. More compact home ovens began to be produced in 1955.
The first mass-produced household microwave oven was released by the Japanese company Sharp in 1962. Initially, the demand for a new product was low. In the USSR, microwave ovens were produced by the ZIL plant.
The principle of operation of a microwave oven is based on the processing of the product placed inside the device, microwaves (microwave radiation). These waves heat the food.
Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy, just like light waves or radio waves. These are very short electromagnetic waves that travel at the speed of light (299.79 km/s).
Food products contain many substances: mineral salts, fats, sugar, water. To heat food using microwaves, it is necessary to have dipole molecules in it, that is, those that have a positive electric charge at one end and a negative one at the other. There are plenty of such molecules in food – these are molecules of both fats and sugars, but the main thing is that the dipole is a water molecule – the most common substance in nature. Each piece of vegetables, meat, fish, fruits contains millions of dipole molecules.
In the absence of an electric field, the molecules are arranged randomly. In an electric field, they line up strictly in the direction of the field lines of force, “plus” in one direction, “minus” in the other. As soon as the field changes direction to the opposite, the molecules immediately turn over 180 degrees.
The magnetron that each microwave oven contains converts electrical energy into a 2450 megahertz (MHz) or 2.45 gigahertz (GHz) ultra-high frequency electric field, which interacts with the water molecules in the food.
Microwaves “bomb” the water molecules in food, causing them to spin at millions of times per second, creating molecular friction that heats the food.
This friction causes significant damage to food molecules, tearing or deforming them. Simply put, the microwave causes food to break down and change its molecular structure through radiation.
Microwaves work only in a relatively small surface layer of food, without penetrating deeper than 1-3 cm. Therefore, heating of products occurs due to two physical mechanisms – heating of the surface layer by microwaves and subsequent penetration of heat into the depth of the product due to thermal conductivity.
When choosing a microwave oven, one should be guided by its main characteristics, among which are the volume of the chamber, the type of control, the presence of a grill, power, and some others. The volume of the chamber is determined by the number of products that fit into the microwave oven.
There are three types of control in microwave ovens – mechanical (the simplest type of control), push-button and touch.
Depending on the functions performed, microwaves are divided into three types: microwaves with microwaves, with grill and microwaves with grill and convection.
As for the additional functions of microwave ovens, the most common ones are the functions of double radiation (for uniform cooking of the product by volume) and auto-weight, which means that electronic sensors will weigh the product and select the cooking time.

Argentinian Ribeye Steak with Chimichurri Sauce
Argentina is famous for its love of meat and the ability to cook it. Why not try to repeat the masterpieces of Latin American steakhouses at home, and cook a juicy rib-eye steak with green chimichurri sauce? Moreover, temperamental Argentines are not prone to complex recipes, and their traditional dishes take no more than 20 minutes to prepare! In this recipe, the steak is cooked on a gas grill using a cooking thermometer, but you can use other classic methods of cooking meat.
Bring meat to room temperature. Salt and pepper generously on both sides of the meat and brush lightly with olive oil.
Preheat the gas grill for 10 minutes. For half-cooked roasting, steaks should be fried for 5-6 minutes on each side. For more accurate results, use a cooking thermometer. Medium rare requires the meat to have an internal temperature of 50-55ºC and a medium temperature of 55 to 60ºC. Transfer the finished steaks to a dish and cool under the lid for 5 minutes.
Prepare the sauce. Place the parsley and minced garlic in a food processor or blender and blend a few times. Add cilantro, vinegar, and lemon juice and finely chop the herbs. Pour the liquid into a container. Add olive oil, oregano, chilli (optional) and finely minced red onion. Mix thoroughly. Salt and pepper to taste.
Chimichurri tastes especially good if you let it steep for at least 30 minutes before serving!

As larger sizes have become popular, manufacturers aren’t making many smaller models. While most manufacturers have neglected the 48-49-50 inch market segment in recent years, there’s still a market for some good TVs in this size range. They’re available in various price ranges, from premium models to more basic cheap models, so choosing the right one depends on your budget and if you want the best performance or are fine with making a few sacrifices.
We’ve bought and tested more than 385 TVs. Below are our recommendations for the best 48-50 inch TVs. See our picks for the best smart TVs, the best 55-inch TVs for something bigger, or the best 40-42-43-inch TVs for something smaller. Most brands have started releasing their 2023 lineups, and although 48-50 inch TVs aren’t as popular as they used to be, make sure to vote on which ones you want us to buy and test. To learn more about the 2023 models, check out our 2023 TV lineup page.

The best TV we’ve tested with a 48-inch screen size is the LG OLED48C2PUA. Premium OLEDs like this one aren’t available in 50-inch sizes, and instead, you have to get something a bit smaller with a 48-inch screen. It’s an excellent TV with stunning picture quality, especially if you use it in a dark room. HDR content looks incredible thanks to its wide color gamut and nearly infinite contrast ratio, resulting in deep blacks and bright highlights, with no distracting blooming around bright areas of the screen. Its wide viewing angle makes it a good choice for a wide seating area, as the image remains consistent from the sides.
It has a great selection of extra features, and the built-in webOS smart interface is easy to use and has a great selection of streaming apps, so you can easily find your favorite shows. It’s also fantastic for new-gen gamers, as it supports 4k @ 120Hz gaming on all four HDMI inputs, meaning you can take full advantage of the latest gaming consoles or a PC with a recent graphics card. It also has good processing with okay upscaling if you watch lower-resolution content, and it smooths out low-quality content well, so you won’t see much macro-blocking, and it preserves details.

If you want the best 50-inch TV and don’t want anything smaller, consider the Samsung QN50QN90BAFXZA. It’s a different type of TV than the LG C2 OLED because it doesn’t display the same perfect blacks and isn’t as good in a dark room. However, it gets much brighter in SDR, which is ideal if you want to use it in a bright room with glare. The reflection handling is also fantastic, and while the 50-inch model doesn’t have the same screen coating as the 55-inch and larger variants, there at least isn’t any distracting rainbow-like effect with strong light sources.
This TV also gets extremely bright in HDR, enough to make highlights stand out, but it doesn’t display images the way the creator intended, as most are over-brightened. Luckily, it displays a wide range of colors and has incredible color volume, meaning colors look vivid and life-like. Like the LG, it also has extra gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and the 50-inch model has a 144Hz native refresh rate, which is great if you want to connect a gaming PC.

If you’re looking for the best 50-inch smart TV in the mid-range price category, consider the Sony KD-55X85K. It doesn’t feature Mini LED backlighting like on the Samsung QN90B QLED, meaning it doesn’t get as bright in HDR, and it doesn’t display perfect blacks like the LG C2 OLED either, but that’s the trade-off you need to make for getting something cheaper. Regardless, it’s still a great overall TV with a good contrast ratio, but it doesn’t have a local dimming feature to further improve the picture quality in dark scenes. If that’s important to you, the Sony X90J is another option with local dimming, but it has more blooming around bright objects and costs more.
Besides the differences in picture quality, the X85K has many of the same features as the LG and Samsung with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, eARC audio passthrough that works with all common audio formats, and a 120Hz refresh rate that helps make it an excellent choice for gaming. It also comes with Google TV, an easy-to-use smart platform with many apps to download.

If you want something in the budget category and don’t want to spend a ton of money, then consider the TCL 50S555. It has fewer gaming features than the Sony X85K as it’s limited to a 60Hz refresh rate and doesn’t have HDMI 2. 1 bandwidth, but if you don’t plan on gaming with it, it provides good performance. It’s great for watching movies in a dark room thanks to its superb contrast ratio, but even though it has a local dimming feature, which the Sony doesn’t have, it doesn’t mean it’s better in dark scenes as there’s more blooming around bright objects.
It runs the Roku smart interface, which is simple and easy to use, with a great selection of streaming channels, but the remote it comes with doesn’t have a built-in mic for voice control. If that’s something you want, or if you prefer another smart system, the Hisense U6H is another good budget TV with Google TV as its smart platform, but it doesn’t get as bright and has a worse contrast ratio than the TCL.

If you want a basic TV that won’t break your wallet, the Hisense 50A6H is a decent cheap 50-inch TV. It’s a simple display with limited picture quality and fewer extra features than the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED. Still, it’s a great choice for an office, guest bedroom, or even a student dorm because it has a wide viewing angle that keeps the image consistent even when viewing from the sides, which is great if you watch TV while walking around. It runs the Google TV smart interface, which has one of the widest selections of streaming apps available, and the included remote has a mic that you can use with Google Assistant.
Unfortunately, it isn’t a good choice for a dark room, as it has a very low contrast ratio, so blacks appear gray in the dark, and there’s no local dimming feature to improve it. If you’re in a dark room, the TCL 4 Series/S455 2022 is better, as it has a much higher contrast ratio. However, it costs a bit more and has worse image accuracy than the Hisense.

Notable Mentions
Samsung QN50QN90CAFXZA:
The Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED is a newer version of the Samsung QN90B QLED, but until the price of the QN90C drops, or the QN90B is hard to find, it isn’t worth getting the QN90C.
See our review
Sony XR-48A90K:
The Sony A90K OLED is a competitor of the LG C2 OLED with better processing, which is important if you watch many older shows or DVDs. However, because the LG gets brighter and costs less, it’s still worth getting it over the Sony.

Insignia NS-50F501NA22:
Insignia F50 QLED is a cheap TV with better picture quality than the Hisense A6H, but it can become harder to find.

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best 48-50 inch televisions to buy for most people in each price range. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn’t worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).
If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our 48-49-50 inch TV reviews. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no TV is perfect, most TVs are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you really look for them.

This tv is broken. Costco and LG are fighting over who’s responsible for year 2 of the warranty. Meanwhile, my 78 year old mother has been without a tv for 2 weeks (this was a Christmas present). I don’t care, just fix it.

What is distance between stands/ What video formats will the smart TV play? ie MP4. AVI, MKV?
Asked by: JDFX
The specifications on the product detail page for the LG UHD 76 Series 43 inch Class 4K Smart UHD TV with AI ThinQ® (42.5” Diag), Model # 43UP7670PUC on our site list ‘Stand Width as 31.5". Supported video formats are VC-1, Other video Codecs like MPEG-1/2/4 with .asf .wmv. wma file extensions, Divx3.11, Divx4, Divx5, Divx6, XViD, Other video Codecs like MPEG-1/2, H.264 / AVC with .divx and .avi file extensions, H.264 / AVC, Other video Codecs like MPEG-1/2/4 with an .mkv file extension, H.264 / AVC, MPEG-2, VC-1 with .ts .trp .tp and .m2ts file extensions, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 with a .vob file extension, MPEG-1 with .mpg and .dat file extensions, H.264 / AVC, MPEG-4 Part 2, H.263, Other video Codecs like MPEG-1/2, VC-1 with .mp4 .m4a .m4v file extensions. To play videos directly from a USB flash drive connected to a USB port on an LG TV, the video should be in DivX HD format. Depending on the model, LG TVs support DivX 3, 4, 5, and 6. When you transfer a video file to the TV, you need to make sure the video format and the video codec are both supported by the TV. LG TVs are particular about what audio and video codec inside in the MP4 video container. LG TV only supports playing MP4 in H.264 / AVC, MPEG-4, H.263, MPEG-1/2, VC-1 video codec and AAC, AC3, DTS, MP3 audio codec. As MP4 is actually a container format, it will use different encodings for video and audio. In other words, LG TV MP4 issues are also affected by MP4 video codec, audio codec, etc. If your videos cannot be played on an LG TV smoothly, it is essential for you to convert your video file to the video format with the video codec and audio codec supported by your model of LG TV as per your Manual. Or you can directly convert your video file to H.264 MP4 with MP3 audio codec which is supported by almost all models of LG TV. Ivan

Contents
TV rating 50 inches
Compiling a rating of 50-inch TVs in 2022, the VyborExperta.ru team analyzed more than 50 trending models of various brands. First of all, we focused on the following characteristics:
Resolution and sensor type;
Screen refresh rate;
Smart TV platform;
Producer.
Many interesting devices are not included in the list, because their price is unreasonably high or some important options are missing. Special thanks to the four consultants of household appliances stores, who helped us to correctly place the accents and spoke about the features of each of the considered models.

Compared to conventional LCD displays, power consumption is reduced by five times, and the service life is longer.
Samsung QE50Q60AAU QLED, HDR

LG 50NANO756PA NanoCell HDR
Another interesting model in our rating. The “chip” of the brand is the Hybrid Broadcast BroadBand Television technology, on-air broadcasting with advanced multimedia capabilities. When watching a certain program, the user can get additional information about what is happening – for example, the score, the time until the end of the match, and so on. This option is also known as Red Button Service.
Quantum dot screens LG refers to as NanoCell. In this model, the image is formed by more than 8 million pixels, each of which conveys colors as accurately as possible. HDR and Dolby Vision are turning TV into a true home theater experience. There is a Filmmaker Mode, in which motion smoothing and aspect ratio adaptation to screen resolution are disabled. The video is displayed exactly as it left the editing table, so that the viewer can appreciate the vision of the director – whether it’s a full-length movie or a short YouTube video.

Includes remote without voice control.
What to look for when buying
When choosing which TV to buy in 2023 for 50 inches, consider the characteristics discussed below.
Resolution
For such a diagonal resolution below 4K is unacceptable – the image will be too grainy, which only causes irritation. The only exception is the TV used as a background “talker” – for example, in the kitchen. In this case, Full HD resolution is acceptable.
Screen refresh rate
60 Hz is sufficient for watching movies and series. If the TV is used in conjunction with a console or gaming PC, a frequency of at least 120 Hz is recommended for competitive multiplayer gaming.
Smart TV platform
Android TV remains the most common platform today. In fact, this is the same “telephone” Android, adapted for visual content. The interface is not the most convenient, but familiar to users of modern smartphones. You can use the same Google account and download software from a USB flash drive as APK files.
The following operating systems are also used in modern smart TVs:
Tizen. A platform based on the Linux kernel that is installed only on Samsung devices. It has a simple interface that is understandable for an elderly user. Supports multi-window mode.
webOS. Linux-based platform for LG devices. Unlike the previous two, it was developed not for smartphones, but immediately for TVs. Controls are displayed as a thin strip at the bottom of the screen that does not interfere with video viewing. The Live feature allows you to switch between different content sources without resetting the progress bar. You can return and continue watching from the interrupted place at any time, including after turning on the TV again.
Vidaa. Firmware is quite rare, mostly in Hisence devices and related brands. The simplest and most understandable of all available operating systems.

Turtle Beach is one of the biggest brands in gaming peripherals. You’ve no doubt seen its products if you’re into the esports scenes of games from Call of Duty to Rocket League. However, you don’t have to be a professional to afford the company’s headsets. The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas is a straightforward, competent gaming headset claiming competition readiness, despite lacking any of the bells and whistles other headsets on the market offer.
How does it stack up to the competition?
Editor’s note: This review was updated on February 24, 2022 to include answers to FAQ submissions, as well as a link to our guide to video chat apps.
Who is the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas for?
Gamers looking for something comfortable to use on different platforms.
At-home workers who want a headset for calls, but need something compatible with a split audio/mic jack.
What is using the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas like?
Everything from the ear pads to the cord is easy to remove and replace.
If the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas name has you expecting a top of the line, no expenses spared, fully-featured experience, think again. Regardless of the name, this headset is about as basic as it gets—but that doesn’t mean it’s a disappointment. The Elite Atlas is a 3.5mm gaming headset, so it works basically everywhere. It doesn’t come with software frills like a custom app or surround sound, or really any particular hardware quirks—just plug it in, and it works the same everywhere.
This headset is made of a mix of metal and plastic, and while it doesn’t have a lot of flash, little flourishes make it particularly nice to use.The steel suspension band makes adjusting the headset easy. The thick plastic hinges can also rotate to lay flat, which is always nice to see.
The headphone pads are covered in soft fabric and leatherette, held in by magnets and easily replaceable. There are also decorative plates on the sides of the headphones (which are also held on with magnets), and Turtle Beach sells replacements with different designs on them. In fact, everything—from the cord, to mic, to the headphone pads—was clearly designed to be easy to remove and replace (Turtle Beach sells components on its site, even individual left and right ear pads if you just need one).
The boom mic of the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas tends to sit off-axis, making plosives and other mouth sounds slightly rare.
Of course, all that would be moot if the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas wasn’t also comfortable to wear, and it very much is. In addition to the suspension band and the solid headphone hinges, the ear pads sit on tilting platforms that further contour to the shape of your head. The ear pads themselves feature soft fabric faces and leatherette sides, and combined with everything else make getting a comfortable, secure seal around your ears very easy. Velour would still be better for gamers with glasses, but the soft fabric shouldn’t cause too much trouble.
Actually using the headset was a pretty solid experience. It was a little tight initially, and after my first lengthy session with it (a few hours), I definitely felt some discomfort. However, after just a few adjustments—and time for the headset pads to break in—I stopped running into issues.
After you get the tightness dialed in, there’s really not much else to learn about the Elite Atlas. There’s an in-line control unit with a volume dial and a mic mute switch, and it’s just as easy to find and use while gaming as any other. The detachable microphone sits on a long, flexible wire, I didn’t run into any problems with it on calls over Discord or Zoom. Outside of the context of calling apps, which adjust a lot of your volume automatically, I found the mic was exceptionally quiet, but otherwise pretty clear and easy to use. There’s even a little foam screen built into it, so it won’t struggle with breath sounds as much.
Gaming with the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas
The removable mic is great for using the Switch, because you can yank off the microphone; useless for games that use Nintendo’s awful voice chat system.
Gaming with the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas is just as straightforward as using it for anything else. This is a stereo gaming headset with a 3.5mm connection, so just plug it into your PlayStation 4 controller, Xbox One controller, Nintendo Switch, or PC and you’re good to go. The included 3.5mm splitter more than doubles the cable length, so you shouldn’t have any issues reaching your PC tower, no matter how big your desktop setup is.
Obviously, there’s no surround sound here, so the Fortnite or Call of Duty-obsessive will probably want to look elsewhere, but more casual fans shouldn’t mind so much. The headset didn’t struggle with games like Risk of Rain 2 and League of Legends on PC, and Dauntless and Animal Crossing: New Horizons on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch respectively. Whether the audio focused more on a sweeping soundtrack or situational cues, I never had any issues hearing what was happening clearly and comfortably.
This article’s frequency response and isolation charts were measured with our old testing system. We have since purchased a Bruel & Kjaer 5128 test fixture (and the appropriate support equipment) to update our testing and data collection. It will take a while to update our backlog of old test results, but we will update this review (and many others!) once we’re able with improved sound quality measurements and ANC performance plots. These will be made obvious with our new chart aesthetic (black background instead of white).
Thank you for bearing with us, and we hope to see you again once we’ve sorted everything out.
How does the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas sound?
Most of the sporadic de-emphasis is slight enough that you probably won’t notice it.
The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas offers more accurate audio than most gaming headsets. There’s a very slight de-emphasis in the very low end, and a slight de-emphasis in the highs (most likely to avoid natural resonances in the ear), but otherwise everything is right as rain.
In music, this means songs of all genres should come through very clearly, without any significant issues with auditory masking. In American Boy by Estelle and Kanye West, the subtler rhythm guitar strumming that runs under a lot of the song is exactly the kind of thing a gaming headset with over-emphasized bass and under-emphasized highs (read: most gaming headsets) would struggle with—on the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas, it all comes through loud and clear.
In-game, the accurate bass output means the sounds of gunfire and explosions shouldn’t run roughshod over the quieter sounds in a given scene, at least not unless the game developers designed it that way (looking at you, Master Chief Collection). Mid range sounds—like the vocal cues of characters in Overwatch or the sounds of footsteps in battle royale games like Fortnite—should also come through really clearly.
Don’t expect this headset to block much noise, regardless of where you are.
The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas has relatively poor isolation for a gaming headset. The fabric on the ear pads makes establishing a decent seal around your ear easy, and it helps with heat buildup, but it’s just not as good a material as leatherette for blocking out sound. This should do fine at home, when things aren’t very noisy. In louder areas, you’ll probably need to increase the volume to compensate, which isn’t great, as it can eventually contribute to noise-induced hearing loss.
How is the microphone?
The main issue with this mic doesn’t show up on a frequency response chart.
The Elite Atlas actually offers a considerably more accurate microphone than most gaming headsets. While there is a notable de-emphasis in the bass range, it’s nowhere near as severe as most gaming headsets. This means people with deeper voices won’t sound like they’re talking out of a tin can as often as other headsets.
However, while the audio is accurate, it’s also quite quiet. As I mentioned earlier, calling apps like Zoom and Discord offer tools for easily boosting your output. Outside of that, I needed to boost things by 20-30dB just to get the volume to a normal level. Listen for yourself:
How does the microphone sound to you?

Should you buy the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas?
If you’re looking for something simple and solid, maybe.
Replaceable parts are a big plus, but they don’t make the headset perform better than its main competition.
The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas may not be the flashiest gaming headset in the world, but it was clearly built with a degree of care that headsets in this price range are often missing. Touches like replaceable parts, sturdy build, and an accurate mic are really great to see. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a slam dunk.
If the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas seems like the kind of gaming headset you’re looking for, I doubt you’ll be disappointed with it. If having replaceable parts is important to you, that’s doubly true. However, if you’re on the hunt for a good gaming headset under $100, there a lot of great options other out there, too.
What should you get instead?
At just under $100, the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas is pretty much a direct competitor with perennial favorite the HyperX Cloud Alpha. Both headsets are hardly slouches, but they also have a lot of the same strengths (comfort, audio quality) and weaknesses—the Elite Atlas’ strengths are just a little less… strong. The Fnatic React is also a very viable option, and it offers comparatively fantastic mic quality.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a headset that’s wireless, or maybe offers more features, it’s probably best to look elsewhere. SteelSeries gaming headsets like the Arctis 7 and Arctis 1 Wireless are great alternatives, and very close in price.

Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero review

The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero is a good headset, with excellent sound quality and features, but the tight fit, high price tag and questionable aesthetic hold it back from true greatness.

Ask any PC gamer and it’s likely that they’ll know Turtle Beach as “that company that makes console peripherals.” And, while it’s true that the manufacturer has been behind a lot of peripherals for the Xbox One and PS4, it’s trying to branch out and reach PC gamers with headsets like the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero.
This is essentially Turtle Beach’s best PC gaming headset, with wireless connectivity, a metal headband, powerful desktop software and a price tag to match. That’s right, you’re looking at a price of $149 (£129, about AU$220) if you want to get your hands on the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero. At that price point, it goes up against some of the best PC gaming headsets on the market, like the Corsair Void Pro RGB, which is actually cheaper at $99 (£104, AU$169).
Turtle Beach is hoping that some unique features will help sell it to PC gamers, but is it worth the inflated pricing?
If the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero looks like anything, it looks like a gaming headset. Sharp angles are all over the design of this thing, with speaker grilles on the outside of the earcups that enable Waves NX 3D Audio – but are also kind of an eyesore. The angular, “gamer” design would be better if it came equipped with some RGB lighting, especially at this price point, but you won’t find it here.
The earcups themselves are memory foam, so they’re nice and comfy, but the tight squeeze of the headset on our head kind of offsets the benefit here. This is entirely a personal preference thing, so if you’re into tight headsets that give a good seal, you’ll fall in love here.
You can also remove the earcups, which is awesome if you need to replace them down the line due to wear and tear. But, what’s cooler about these removable earcups on the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero is that there’s a little strap on the inside of each ear pad. You can pull on this strap to adjust it, making an indentation in the earcup that makes it more comfortable for folks that wear glasses.
Turtle Beach is calling this the “ProSpecs Glasses Relief system,” and it’s a feature we haven’t seen in other headsets. Frankly, this is a major win in terms of accessibility. We love inclusive design work, and the Elite Atlas Aero definitely wins points here.
Finally, when you pull the right earcup off, you’ll see a little indentation where you can store the USB wireless dongle for easy storage. We still ended up losing the dongle and needing a replacement, but that’s more just us being clumsy than anything on Turtle Beach’s behalf.
Much like the earcups the mic is removable, which is a nice touch.
To control the headset, you’ll find all the buttons, dials and ports over on the left ear cup. You’ll get an indented power button, a volume dial and a configurable button that will enable “Superhuman Hearing” by default.
Now, before you break out your credit card to buy a superpower, this just means the frequencies that the sound of in-game footsteps typically occupy will be amplified, so you can hear people walk up behind you or around corners in games. On the outside of the headset, you’ll see a button that mutes the mic.
The biggest downfall in design here isn’t actually the headset, though: it’s the software. Now, it’s obvious that this software is incredibly powerful, but the interface looks like it was ripped straight out of 1996. It gets the job done, but we honestly can’t stand to look at it. This could be updated in the future though, so it’s definitely not a dealbreaker.

Performance
OK, this is a gaming headset that looks like a gaming headset – what else is new? What’s important is how it sounds. And, well, this headset nails it when playing games. Playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the background music is beautiful, the swords clang together in epic fashion and the sound of the blood spraying after stabbing an enemy in the neck is as visceral as ever.
However, to further enhance audio in your PC games, there are a couple of features that Turtle Beach has included here. First, you’ve got that “Superhuman Hearing,” which is targeted squarely at folks playing esports games. We’re definitely not esports players, we’re too old, so we’re not keen on getting destroyed in something like Overwatch.
In Sekiro, however, when this option is enabled it will isolate the sound of your grappling hook shooting out, all but muting the rest of the game sound. It’s an odd effect, and we see it being useful for anyone playing the latest Call of Duty, but in single player RPGs, you’re going to want to leave this setting off.
For the more single-player leaning players, however, Turtle Beach has included Waves NX 3D Audio. This does make the game world feel more voluminous, and made playing Dark Souls into a new experience, even if we’ve played it multiple times. However, this isn’t like the Audeze Mobius that tracks your head movement, it just adds a 3D effect to the game audio.

Final verdict
The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero ticks a lot of boxes, and its unique features and accessibility options are definitely worth taking a look at. Both esports players and single-player curmudgeons will find a feature to enjoy.
However, the design leaves a lot to be desired, and the lack of any RGB lighting makes the extremely “gamer” aesthetic not worth it. And, at $149 (£129, about AU$220), the price tag might be hard to swallow, especially in the face of headsets like the Corsair Void Pro RGB, which features 7.1 Virtual Surround, while slashing 50 bucks or quid off the price tag.

The waters around Sri Lanka are rich in marine life: whales, dolphins, shellfish, many species of exotic fish, and of course, sea turtles . The island has several beaches where sea turtles regularly come to lay their eggs. Tourists can look at the turtles up close, take pictures with them, feed them, and swim with them.
If you love turtles (and who doesn’t?), be sure to visit the turtle farm near Kosgoda (available as part of the one-day excursion “South Tour”):

Turtle Beach off Hikkaduwa
Near Hikkaduwa there are several beaches with turtles. The most famous is Turtle Beach, a beach with turtles and reef sharks in Hikkaduwa. This place is near the Hikka Tranz hotel. Turtles appear here every day. They are practically tame, they are not afraid of people, they willingly take food from their hands. You can hand-feed the turtles yourself, or use the services of local consultants who, for a modest fee, will give you special seaweed and show you how to hand-feed the turtles safely.
Care must be taken when feeding turtles. Possible traumatic amputation of fingers
Turtle beaches Mihiripenna Beach and Dalawella near Unawatuna
Mihiripenna Beach is a 7-minute drive from Unawatuna Beach, where sea turtles show up regularly. Also near Unawatuna there is Turtle beach (aka Dalawella beach and Vijaya beach).
You can snorkel among the turtles. Children especially like this adventure. They are delighted with playing with turtles. The turtle beach in Sri Lanka is a must-see on the island for those who love nature.
Some turtle species are listed in the Red Book and have a protected status. If they do any harm, you run the risk of being prosecuted.
Rewaka turtle beach (near Tangalle)
Rewaka Beach is located 10 km from Tangalle and is a great place to watch turtles during the laying season (between April and September). At night, green and leatherback turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on this beach. To visit Rewaka Beach, you need to pay an entrance fee, which goes to the turtle conservation project.

Montenegro is famous for its warm Adriatic Sea and luxurious beaches. There will be enough places for recreation near the water for all travelers, but before choosing a resort town or laying your route to “wild” places, it is better to sort out the nuances in advance. They will be discussed in this article.

Features and types of beaches
The total number of beaches reaches 117, and their length is 73 km . They may belong to the city, a hotel, be a closed area, or they may be “wild” beaches. There is a different surface of the coast.
Sand – such beaches are especially appreciated by tourists, but there are few of them in Montenegro and they are concentrated mainly in the south of the country.
Pebbles are the most common beaches, and there can be both small pebbles and large cobblestones, which is why some beaches are called “stone beaches”.
Concrete – these are landscaped areas with a smooth and warm surface of the shore, from which you can go down the ladder into the water and immediately start swimming.
Laws on beaches in Montenegro: cleaning and sun beds Villa Milocer. Access to them is possible only as part of the tour, after booking tables in a restaurant or paying for expensive sunbeds.
In other cases, every tourist has the right to come to the beach without restrictions, and even luxury hotels are not allowed to put fences near the water. Another rule: no more than half of the beach area can be made with paid sunbeds, and the rest of the territory is a place for ordinary bathers who are ready to lie on a towel.
The state, being the owner of the beaches, rents them out and imposes strict maintenance requirements. For example, during the tourist season, beaches should be cleaned twice a day – in the morning and in the evening.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are quite expensive here – the price for one set can reach 20 euros. Payment is not tied to the time of use: while you are on the beach or while your things remain on the sunbed, it is also yours. As soon as you left, the sunbed is rented to another tourist.
Montenegrin beaches
Montenegrin beaches are divided into six rivieras, each of which has its own characteristics.
Budva Riviera – these are the beaches in the area of the large resort town of Budva. There is a sandy surface of the coast and developed infrastructure. This riviera includes the elite beaches of the King and Queen, the rest on which is very expensive.
Kotorska Riviera – beaches in the bay near the town of Kotor. The local concrete beaches are well-maintained and offer beautiful sea views.
Hercegnovskaya Riviera – beaches near the resort of Herceg Novi. Here there is both a sandy surface and large pebbles. This area is known for therapeutic mud and mineral springs.
Ulcinj Riviera – beaches in the very south of the country near the border with Albania. There are no forests and mountains that can provide protection from the sun, but Ulcinj is famous for its “black sand” beach, the length of which is as much as 13 km.
Riviera Bar are pebbly beaches near the town of Bar. There are usually few tourists and fairly affordable prices.
Tivat Riviera is another resort with pebbly beaches that is not yet too settled by tourists.

Beaches of Budva
Sandy beaches with a gentle entry into the water are the most popular among tourists and these are the places for recreation that prevail in the Budva Riviera. The most famous of them is the Slavic beach, located in the center of Budva. Also noteworthy is the Richard Glava beach in the Old Town, as well as the beaches of Jaz and Mogren, located on the outskirts of Budva. For tourists who do not want to be crowded on crowded city beaches, there is St. Nicholas Island and the Hawaiian beach there. True, here you cannot do without special shoes: walking barefoot on large pebbles and stones is not the most pleasant experience.
In Budva there are great places for family holidays – for example, the small-pebble beach Becici with an aquazone and inflatable slides, a sand and pebble beach in Kemenovo. And the local wild beaches are surprisingly picturesque, despite their severity – Crvena Glavitsa is surrounded by rocks overgrown with forest, and its coast is strewn with stones and large pebbles. Here you will find everything for a comfortable stay.
Beaches of Bar
Most of the beaches of the Bar Riviera are located outside the city limits. In the city itself there is a large pebbly beach Topolica, in a close suburb – Žukotrlica beach, where there are always a lot of people. In the direction of Sutomore, you will find the Red Beach, so named for the special shade of pebbles and sand on the shore.
For a family vacation in Bar and its surroundings, it is better to choose Utjeha beach – it is light pebbles on the shore and a gradual gentle descent into the water. It is better to use beach shoes here, as the pebble coating in some places is not shallow. In Utjeha, concrete sections of the beach are also equipped, from which you can quickly descend into the water to a depth convenient for swimming.
Beaches of Petrovac
This resort belongs to the Budva Riviera, but deserves a separate description. Despite the fact that sand and pebble cover prevails here on the seashore, it is here that whole families most often go on vacation. The main beaches are Lucica and Buljarica. Tourists who come to rest without small children will be interested in the Perazicha Do beach, located in a quiet bay surrounded by wooded rocks, known for its amazingly clear water. There are not too many people here, but at the same time there is everything you need for relaxation – inexpensive umbrellas and sun loungers, parking spaces, changing rooms, showers and toilets.
Beaches of Kotor
You should go to this area for amazingly beautiful landscapes that you can admire endlessly, but for swimming the beaches of the Kotor Riviera are not so convenient. On the shore, pebbles and concrete platforms are most often found, which, however, have their own advantage – not to enter the water tens of meters from the shore in order to take a dip.
The most popular is the city beach of Kotor, called Dobrota. It stretches for several kilometers along the coast and presents through a variety of recreational areas. For example, there are areas of shallow water where children go to splash, beaches with small light pebbles, concrete platforms. The peculiarity of Kotor is that since it is a bay with a narrow strait, the water here is very warm and there are no strong waves.
It is also worth noting the beaches of Bajova Kula, the city beach of Perast and the beach of Risan.
Tivat beaches
Tivat is dominated by concrete beaches with a descent into the water; But here the coast is with pleasant small pebbles and with affordable prices for equipment rental. On the outskirts of the city is the Župa beach.
In the direction of Donja Lastva, there are several more beaches where you can also have a budget and comfortable rest.

Ulcinj beaches th beaches. It is believed that the grayish sand that covers the seashore has healing properties and is useful for people with joint problems.
Tourists usually go to the Great Beach, which starts 3 km southeast of the city. This is a huge 13-kilometer stretch of coast with low prices for equipment rental (about 5 euros per set).
