There are several troubleshooting methods that you can try if your Xbox isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi.

If your Xbox One isn’t connected to the internet, then you can’t access numerous features on the gaming console — specifically the ability to play video games online via Xbox Live, install new games, or stream videos.

Reasons your Xbox One isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi

There are several different reasons why your Xbox might refuse to connect to the Wi-Fi. It usually boils down to the following:

• Xbox and router are too far apart: If there’s too much distance between the Xbox One and router, you can experience connection problems. You need to move it closer to the router or vice-versa and see if that fixes the issue. This is probably the first thing you should do before trying anything else.
• Wi-Fi signal disruptors: Physical barriers, such as thick walls, and other devices using the same frequency, such as Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens, and other networking devices, can interfere with your Wi-Fi signal. Removing these signal disruptors or switching to a different frequency can help solve the problem.
• Problems with the Xbox: Sometimes, the Xbox software can glitch, causing connectivity issues. You can try updating the console or restarting it to see if it will connect again.
• Problems with the router: Router or modem issues are the biggest sources of connectivity issues, and power cycling them can resolve the problem sometimes.

Make sure Xbox Live is online

Check the Xbox Live Status Page to ensure that Xbox Live is up and running.

If your internet is working, but Xbox Live won’t connect, you will need to see if Xbox Live is currently down worldwide. You can check this by heading to the Xbox Live Status Page on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.

Unfortunately, if it is down, it’s out of your control and you will have to wait until Microsoft brings Xbox Live back up online.

Check if other devices can connect to the internet

If Xbox Live seems to be up and running the first thing to do is check if your Wi-Fi network is the cause of your issues.

1. Check other devices in your household to see if they are connected to the internet. You can use a computer or tablet, or even another gaming console.

2. Make sure that whatever device you are checking is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Xbox One.

3. If your other device is not connecting to the internet either, you can power cycle the router. Just locate your modem or router and unplug it, then wait a few seconds before plugging it back in. Alternatively, you can unplug your ethernet cable from the router and wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.

Examine your Xbox One’s router connection

You can use a few methods to check your router’s connection to your Xbox One.

If your Xbox One is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, you can try to swap out the cable and see if that is the issue. Alternatively, you can also try plugging the ethernet cable into a different router port.

If you are connected to Wi-Fi, check your Xbox One settings to make sure you are using the correct Wi-Fi password. If the password is correct and your Xbox One is still not connecting, try placing your Xbox One console closer to your router or removing any objects possibly blocking the signal.

Quick tip: Although not common, your Xbox One won’t connect to the Wi-Fi or internet if its network card is damaged. If that’s the case, you’ll have to replace it – call a hardware professional if you’re not knowledgeable about fixing hardware.

Re-enter your Xbox One Wi-Fi password

Check that your Wi-Fi password is correct on your Xbox One.

1. Turn on your Xbox One and head to the system’s Settings page and then click on Network.

2. Locate your Wi-Fi network from the list and then click on the network. Re-enter your password when prompted.

Examine the MAC filtering

You can find the MAC address in your Xbox One’s advanced settings.

1. Power on your Xbox One console, then head to your Settings and select Network and then Advanced Settings.

2. In Advanced Settings, write down your Wireless MAC address.

4. Once you add your MAC address to your router, restart your Xbox One console and try to reconnect to the internet.

Wireless controllers are convenient, but connecting them can be a bit confusing. If you’re wondering how to connect an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S controller to your Xbox console, we’ll explain what you need to know.

Whether you bought a new controller and need to sync it to your Xbox One, or brought your controller over to play on a friend’s Xbox, it isn’t difficult to pair your Xbox One controller.

Below, we show you how to sync an Xbox controller to any Xbox console, including the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. We’ll also cover a few tips if pairing doesn’t work for some reason.

How to Sync an Xbox One Controller to Your Console Wirelessly

Wireless pairing is the most convenient method for connecting your Xbox controller to your Xbox. Here’s how to connect your Xbox controller to your system wirelessly:

1. Turn on the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S you want to sync with by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the system. Give it a few moments to boot up.
2. Next, turn on your controller by holding the Xbox button on the controller for a moment. The Xbox button will flash, indicating that it’s looking for a console to sync with.
3. Press and release the Pair button on your console.
   • On the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the Pair button is a small circle that’s next to the USB port on the front of the system.
   • On the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, you’ll find the small circular Pair button at the bottom-right of your system, under the power button.
   • For the original model Xbox One, the Pair button is on the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc slot.
4. After pressing the Pair button on your console, press and hold the small circular Pair button on top of your Xbox controller. The Xbox button on the controller should flash a few times, then will stay solid once connected.

Once you’ve paired your Xbox controller successfully, you can use it to navigate the home screen and play games. You’ll see the current battery level at the top-right of the menu on the Xbox dashboard.

How to Pair Your Xbox One Controller Using a Cable

If you’d rather, you can instead use a micro-USB cable to pair your Xbox One controller to your Xbox console. For the Xbox Series X|S controller, you’ll need to use a USB-C cable instead.

Simply plug the cable into a USB port on the Xbox, then connect the other end to your controller. Once they’re connected, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller to sync them. You can disconnect the cable to use the controller wirelessly after the syncing completes.

Can I Use Xbox Series X|S Controllers on Xbox One?

You might have noticed that the controller for the Xbox Series X|S is near-identical to the Xbox One controller. As it turns out, Microsoft has baked forward and backward compatibility into these controllers.

This means that you can use Xbox One controllers on your Xbox Series X or Series S. In addition, you can use Xbox Series X|S controllers on your Xbox One system. This is a handy way to enjoy multiplayer titles on either console without worrying about controller compatibility.

Since the controllers are almost the same, you aren’t missing out on anything major by using the older Xbox One controller with an Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox One controller lacks the dedicated Share button on the new controller, but that’s not essential for gameplay. The only other improvements, aside from USB-C charging, are better grip textures and an improved D-pad.

Can’t Connect Your Xbox One Controller?

The above steps should sync your Xbox controller and console in most cases. But if pairing doesn’t work, try these troubleshooting tips:

• Try replacing the batteries in the controller. If you use the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit or Xbox Rechargeable Battery attachment, make sure your controller is charged. Confirm that the cable you’re using to connect and charge the controller works properly.
• Keep the controller close to the console when you sync it. The wireless connection between your console and controller has a range of about 20-30 feet, so it may disconnect if you go further.
• Turn off any other wireless devices (like microwaves or laptops) that are close to the Xbox and controller to reduce interference.
• Fully restart your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the system for about 10 seconds. Disconnect the console’s power cable for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect it and turn on your system again.

• Remember that you can only have eight controllers connected to the system at once. If you somehow have this many connected, disconnect a few before connecting another. You can turn off a controller by holding the Xbox button for several seconds until the light on this button goes out.
• The Xbox Series X|S controller has a handy feature that lets you switch between using your controller with your Xbox and a connected Bluetooth device. Quickly press the Pair button on your controller twice to switch from a Bluetooth connection (like a smartphone) back to your Xbox. Hold Pair to put your controller back in pairing mode so you can reconnect it to the Bluetooth device.

Also, keep in mind that when you press the Xbox button on your controller, it tries to connect to the system it was last paired to. If you have multiple Xbox consoles nearby, your controller may thus be connecting to another system as soon as you turn it on. This will prevent you from connecting it to another.

Try fully shutting down and unplugging any other Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S systems in your vicinity to avoid this overlap. This also applies if you’re trying to connect an Xbox One controller to a PC when the controller is already paired with your nearby console, or vice-versa.

Now you know the methods to pair your Xbox One controller, or an Xbox Series X|S controller, with any model of Xbox console. It’s not difficult, so if you run into a problem, you may have a physical issue with your controller.

Try using the controller on a friend’s Xbox if possible. If that doesn’t work, contact Xbox Support about a replacement or hardware repair. Failing that, you’ll need to buy a new controller from the many options available.

Here’s how you do it

You can change the way you connect to the Internet at any time while using Xbox One. For example, if you’re moving to a new location, you may want to use a different wireless network than the one you’ve used in the past. Here’s how to do it:

1. Turn on your Xbox One and go to the Settings menu.

2. Select Network.

3. Select Set Up Wireless Network to connect to the new network.

4. Xbox One asks which one is yours? and displays the wireless networks found in your area.

5. Select the network you want to connect to.

6. Enter the password used by this wireless network using the keyboard displayed on the screen.

7. Press the Enter button on your controller.

8. Xbox One connects to the network you selected using the password you entered.
It then checks to see if it can connect to the Internet. If everything is ok, Xbox One will tell you that your console is now connected to the internet.

9. Click Continue to return to network settings.
10. Press the Home button on the controller.

You are now connected to the new wireless network you selected.

USING A WIRED ETHERNET 9 CONNECTION0003

This is the easiest way to connect your Xbox One to your home network. You will need a network cable and a router that is configured to connect to the Internet and provide network access to the devices you use.

Connect it to the Ethernet network port on the back of your Xbox One. Then connect the other end of the cable to one of the available Ethernet ports on the back of the router. Xbox One will detect the wired connection and configure itself accordingly. There is no need to perform manual configuration.

Most routers are configured to automatically assign IP addresses to all devices connected to your network and automatically grant them access to the Internet. If your router doesn’t automatically provide IP addresses to all devices connected to your network, check your router’s manual to find out how to set it up. Otherwise, your Xbox One will not get an IP address and internet access. This procedure differs from router to router, so we cannot provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

If you have problems connecting to playing online games on your Xbox 360, or if you can’t hear other players in the games you’ve joined, you might have a network address translation issue.

Xbox 360 NAT can be set to Open, Moderate, or Strict. The last two NATs limit the connections your Xbox 360 can make to other consoles on the network: moderate NATs can only connect to consoles that use moderate and open NAT, and strong NATs can only connect to consoles that use open NATs. The bottom line is that you need an open NAT setup to seamlessly connect to other players.

Is this a NAT issue?

First find out if your connection issue is related to NAT.

1. On Xbox 360, open My Xbox.
2. Select System settings.
3. Select Network settings.
4. Select Wired network or the name of your wireless network.
5. Select Check your connection to Xbox LIVE.

If you have a problem with NAT, you will see a yellow exclamation mark and text that says “Your NAT type is set to [Strict or Moderate]”.

Opening NAT settings

First, you need to collect some information about your network:

1. On a PC connected to your network, click Start, and then type cmd in the search box. Press Enter.
2. Type ipconfig in the pop-up window and press Enter.
3. Locate your network connection under the heading you’ll probably find in the Local Area Network Connection or Wireless Network Connection list and note the numbers listed for the following items:

• IPv4 address (or IP address)
• Subnet mask
• Default gateway

Second, you need to enable Universal Plug and Play for your router.

1. On a PC connected to your network, open a web browser.
2. Enter the default gateway number (which you noted down earlier) in the address bar and press Enter.
3. Enter the username and password for your router. The default values ​​for the username and password vary depending on the router model. If you are unsure of your default username and password, refer to your router’s documentation or find them using the manual on the Port Forward website. If someone has changed your default login details and you don’t know it, you need to reset your router.

4. Make sure UPnP is enabled. Check your router’s documentation if you can’t find the UPnP setting.
5. Restart your Xbox 360 and run the connection test again.

If your router does not have UPnP, or if enabling UPnP does not open NAT, you need to assign a static IP address to your Xbox 360 and set up port forwarding.

1. From the Network Settings menu on the Xbox 360, select the Basic Settings tab.
2. Select Manual.
3. Select an IP address.
4. Take the default gateway number you noted down earlier and add 10 to the last number. For example, if your default gateway is 192.168.1.1, the new number is 192.168.1.11. This new number is your static IP address; Enter it as an IP address and click Done.
5. Select Subnet Mask, enter the subnet mask number you noted down earlier, and then select Done.
6. Select Gateway, enter the default gateway number you noted down earlier, and then click Finish.
7. Select Done again.
8. On a PC connected to your network, open a web browser and log in to your router’s interface.
9. Open the following ports:

• Port 88 (UDP)
• Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
• Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
• Port 80 (TCP)

If you don’t know how to open ports on your router, refer to your router’s documentation or the manual on the Port Forward website.

Still no luck?

If you have completed all of the above steps and the connection test still reports a second, turn on the router. Wait another 60 seconds, then turn on your Xbox 360 and try again.

You can also try entering the static IP address you created earlier in the DMZ field in your router settings. Login to your router interface, search for DMZ Host, enter a static IP address and apply the changes.

Method 1 – Share your computer’s VPN connection with Xbox

This method requires you to establish a VPN connection on your computer and then share it with Xbox.

The built-in Windows VPN client also supports other protocols, namely L2TP/IPSec and PPTP.

Important: You will need to manually set up VPN on your computer using the built-in VPN client to share the VPN connection.

For a Windows PC designed to use a VPN, you need to share your Xbox One connection. After connecting your PC and Xbox via an Ethernet cable, follow the steps below to share your existing VPN PC.

1. Connect the Ethernet cable to the on your Xbox and a VPN-enabled PC.
2. Right-click the Start button .
3. Press Settings .
4. Click Network and Internet .

6. Click Change adapter settings .

18. Select Network settings .
19. Select tile Testing Network Connectivity . Your console must be connected to the Internet.

Method 2 – Use a second router and set it up to connect your Xbox to the VPN

With this method, you will have an existing network that will be your local ISP, and then a second router that will route your traffic through the VPN network. Note: A single router solution is not recommended. It is possible, but the problem is that if there are any problems or failures, you will lose your Internet connection. If you set up a VPN on an additional router, then any VPN setup issues won’t affect your local Internet connection.

In 2023, many Android tablets fall in the budget category. You can find an endless array of no-name, plasticky sub-$100 slates at your local CVS or through mysterious “Fulfilled by Amazon” drop shippers. Many of these off-label tabs are perfectly serviceable, but we recommend choosing a brand you can count on for software support and hardware quality control. Acer, Asus, Lenovo, and Samsung used to deliver solid iPad competitors, but now they release new models once every two years or so, if that. Google might be entering the space again, however, and has teased a Pixel Tablet.

Is Android a Good Operating System for Tablets?

Android tablet manufacturers rarely use the latest version of the OS, and software upgrades are even less common. Though most Android smartphones now ship with at least Android 12 (with many shifting to Android 13), it’s difficult to find a tablet that runs the latest version. We recommend skipping over tablets running anything older than Android 11, except for those in Amazon’s Fire lineup.

Speaking of Amazon, it and other large manufacturers like Samsung like to customize Google’s OS by adding their own features, app stores, and completely revamped user interfaces. These are not for everyone, but those familiar with Amazon’s Fire OS or Samsung’s One UI should try the latest devices from those companies.

Even if you don’t have the most recent OS iteration, Android remains the most configurable tablet operating system you can find. It supports multitasking, has an excellent notification system, and features top-notch integrations with Google services like Gmail, Meet, and Google Maps.

Android is home to many great apps, though there are far fewer tablet-specific versions than on Apple’s App Store, and they tend to get less frequent updates.

Should You Buy a Cellular or Wi-Fi Android Tablet?

All of the major carriers offer a small selection of cellular-capable tablets. It’s easy to find them at a discount when you upgrade your plan or buy a new smartphone. Tablet data plans tend to run around $10 per month, although some carriers offer daily plans.

T-Mobile sells unlocked tablets, but some have limited band support if you switch carriers. If you’re thinking of switching to a different carrier, be sure to check out LTE and 5G band support to ensure your device continues to work without any hiccups.

Frequent travelers and commuters are likely to find cellular connectivity invaluable, but if you primarily use your tablet for streaming at home, a Wi-Fi-only model is perfectly fine. If you ever do need to take a non-cellular tablet on the go, most carriers allow you to use your phone as a hotspot. Of course, using your phone as a hotspot quickly depletes its battery, so you might also need to pick up a power bank. Just make sure to check out the details of your phone plan before making any decisions because some carriers limit the amount of data you can use with a mobile hotspot.

What Specs Do You Need in an Android Tablet?

At a minimum, you should look for an Android tablet with at least 4GB of RAM for smooth switching between media streaming and web surfing. A midrange MediaTek processor should be fine for most tasks, but a higher-end Qualcomm CPU like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 unlocks gaming potential. Note, however, that the Amazon models can get away with less RAM and slower chips because of their performance optimizations.

We also recommend at least 64GB of storage for midrange and higher-end tablets, and ideally a microSD card slot for additional storage. Basic models can get away with just 32GB because they can’t run the advanced games and applications that take up a lot of space anyway.

A fierce device with a stunning display, eight speakers and the ability to connect to Huawei laptops as an additional monitor. Looking ahead, the 11-inch Huawei MatePad Pro is pretty much the same but in a more compact format.

In comparison, another couple suggests itself – Apple iPad Pro 12.9and iPad Pro 11 inches. Not without reason: iPad and MatePad – namely Pro-models – are direct competitors. But each has its own ecosystem, its own characteristics, even the tasks performed are slightly different. We will not compare here, let’s go specifically to the Huawei MatePad Pro 11-inch tablet.

First on HarmonyOS 3.0

The main thing to know is that all new Huawei MatePad Pros run on the HarmonyOS operating system. Let’s repeat once again: this is the same Android as on Huawei smartphones. Absolutely. Up to support for APK files. That is, Sberbank Online can be installed in a couple of touches. HarmonyOS looks like a shell for Android – EMUI.

HarmonyOS 3.0 is installed here. By the way, one of the first devices on the third “harmony”. Before us is the same friendly, smooth and easy system. It only spends less energy, keeps a couple of more programs in the background and works a little faster. Which is logical.

Some of the chips have already been seen in the folding Huawei Mate Xs 2. For example, the Multi-Window multi-window mode. Works easier than anywhere else. Even the Huawei MatePad with a 10.4-inch screen weighs 1 g more. For its dimensions, the flagship “matpad” is simply airy.

When you hold Huawei MatePad Pro in your hand, the association arises rather not with a tablet, but with an e-book. It’s also easy to hold with three fingers, absorb content for hours. Hands do not fall off, palms do not cut.

Frames here are only 4.2 mm wide and symmetrical on all sides. Thanks to this, the ratio of the screen area to the front panel area is an impressive 92%. When playing games or watching videos, it feels like you’re only holding the display. The frame is so inconspicuous. Like the cutout for the front camera, it is tiny here and modestly hides in the corner.

The back panel is made of matte black material with iridescent, as if on a mineral stone, interspersed with metal. Looks strict, but not boring. It does not slip in the hands, unlike the all-metal iPad, and does not collect fingerprints. Optimal solution.

All eyes on the screen

The screen is just gorgeous. A lot of gadgets have passed through the eyes of the Hi-Tech Mail.ru editors, and the display in Huawei MatePad Pro (which is 11 inches, which is 12.6) is close to ideal. This is confirmed by both the characteristics and certificates like TUV Rheinland.

The quality – especially for the main module – is at a good level, like that of smartphones for 30-40 thousand rubles. For a device in which the camera is usually remembered at the last moment, this is praise.

Sennheiser often drops the price of the PXC 550-II to just shy of $200 USD, which is great news for anyone who wants ANC bundled into a great-sounding headset. The frequency response is fairly neutral and will reproduce audio with minimal low and midrange frequency exaggeration. You’ll have to live with microUSB to charge, which can be annoying if you want one cable to rule them all.

The PXC 550-II supports a great number of Bluetooth codecs: SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Low Latency. While the ANC is not on the same level as the venerated Sony WH-1000XM4 or the Bose QuietComfort 45, it’s at least $100 cheaper, and blocks out low droning noises competently. You get Bluetooth multipoint for easy device switching and the Sennheiser app lets you create custom EQ settings, making this a versatile companion.

The microphone quality is pretty good here, especially for a years-old headset. Some background noise still makes its way through the system and to the person on the other end of the call. You can here this in the demo below where I speak with a tower fan off and then power it on halfway through. It’s not that the fan noise is coming through, but you can hear when I click the buttons.

What you should know about Bluetooth headphones

There are all sorts of features to be on the lookout for when you’re shopping for Bluetooth headphones under $200. One of the most meaningful is active noise canceling (ANC), but what is it? You can dive deeper if you really want to learn the science behind it, but if you don’t feel like dusting off your old textbook and want the TL;DR version, here it is.

Tiny microphones built into the headphones pick up what’s going on around you and then play the opposite sound wave into your ear along with your music. Because the sound wave that’s produced by the headphones is basically the exact opposite of the one that’s outside of the headphones, it cancels out. Leaving you with just the blissful sound of your music. See? That wasn’t so bad. Science can be cool.

What is a Bluetooth codec? Which ones matter for your needs?

The next thing to really consider is Bluetooth codec support. Some of this depends on the device you use with your headphones, but what makes LDAC or aptX HD good? We’ve got a bit of technical jargon to go over, but we’ll try and keep it relatively short.

The AAC codec performance varies greatly depending on what source device is being used.

LDAC is supposed to be better is because it has a higher bitrate than the standard SBC codec, but our testing reveals that LDAC falls short of hi-quality claims. aptX Adaptive, while impressive, didn’t make the splash that many hi-fi wireless audio fans hoped, but it’s still around for those interested.

AAC is a pervasive high-quality codec that performs far better on iOS than it does on Android. AAC can be good and reliable on Android but its performance greatly depends on the hardware. If you’re in the market for headphones to use with your Google Pixel phone, maybe avoid the AirPods.
