What to Consider When Buying a Coffee Pod Holder
While the main purpose of buying a coffee pod holder is to keep your coffee setup neat and organized, you’ll likely also want one that fits your preferred design aesthetic. Many of the options on our list are as attractive as they are useful, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble for you to create the café of your dreams right at home.
Measure the space of your coffee bar to see that the coffee pod storage of your choice will fit in nicely next to your Keurig or Nespresso machine. Then, make sure it’s ample enough to hold the coffee pods you want to have on hand. Remember, if you like to buy in bulk, you’ll want a coffee pod organizer that stores dozens of Nespresso Vertuo pods or K-Cups. Otherwise, you’ll still be stuck finding space to stow those sleeves and boxes.
How We Found the Best Coffee Pod Holders
As shopping experts, our only job is to help you find a winning product. We start with the research and reporting basics—what products are made of, what they look like and how much they cost—to ensure that we’re only recommending the buys that are worth your time and money. Then, we research the features that speak to the product’s quality, taking advice from industry insiders and subject matter experts on what makes a product a smart value (or worthy of a splurge). Finally, we do the work of combing through user reviews to see how real people interact with the product, and if it stands up to the test.
FAQ
Are all coffee pods the same size?
No, the size and shape of coffee pods depend on the brand of your single-serve coffee maker and the number of fluid ounces you’re brewing. However, K-Cups are typically the same size regardless of ounces, and all Nepresso pods should fit in a Nespresso pod holder, regardless if they’re the regular size or slimmer espresso shot ones. If you have a Keurig and Nespresso, you likely won’t be able to mix K-Cups and Vertuo pods in a single coffee pod holder.
Do coffee pods expire?
If you check the box your coffee pods came in, you’ll see that there is indeed an expiration date. However, as long as the coffee pods have remained sealed against moisture and mold growth, you can still brew them. In fact, many say that the expiration date should be viewed more as a “best by” date—though you can likely enjoy your morning cup of joe far past that date.

How to Clean a Keurig Coffee Maker – Hobt
If you have a Keurig – arguably one of the best Keurig coffee makers – you probably love how you can practically make your morning cup of coffee in your sleep. Insert the capsule, press the button, and in about a minute your mug will be full. But if you want everything to run smoothly, you need to develop a maintenance schedule. We show you how to wash your Keurig and make sure every cup is as fresh as the first with a sparkling drink machine. While this article is for Keurig coffee machines, many of these tips also apply to the best coffee makers and best espresso machines, and we’ll also take a closer look at how to descale with Keurig.
What can happen if you don’t clean your Keurig coffee maker?
Here are some things that can go wrong if you don’t clean your Keurig regularly:
- The needle can become clogged. This means coffee grounds could end up in your cup, or you could get a “short” cup instead of your regular dose.
- Your coffee may taste bad.
- Mineral deposits can build up inside the machine, slowing down brewing.
- Bacteria and mold can grow inside the coffee maker. You may not see it or even taste it, but it is there. Ugh!
How to clean your Keurig coffee maker
These steps may seem complicated, but they only take a few minutes. And other than a simple weekly wash, you don’t need to do them often. The reward is great: great tasting coffee. Be sure to check out the Keurig website which has short but very helpful videos demonstrating each procedure.
What to do weekly (or more often if you have time)
Use dish soap and hot water to wash all removable parts of your Keurig, including the water tank, lid, mug tray and K-Cup holder. Let the pieces air dry; You don’t want lint from kitchen towels getting into the cup. Wipe the surface of the car in a few minutes. (Image credit: Keurig)
What to do every two months
Replace the water filter cartridge. After soaking a new cartridge in fresh cold water for 5 minutes, rinse the cartridge for 60 seconds or so. Then rinse the mesh part of the lower filter holder. Insert the cartridge into the top filter holder and snap the cap on. Then fix it in the water tank.
What to do every three to six months
From time to time you need to descale your Keurig coffee machine to remove mineral deposits. The exact frequency depends on the hardness of the water. If you notice that your coffee machine is slowing down, it’s time to descale it. Start the process by filling the tank with 10 ounces of regular white vinegar. Or you can use Keurig’s descaling solution. Then run a couple of brew cycles without the K-Cup, don’t forget to place a mug under it to catch the liquid. Finally, run a cycle with 10 ounces of fresh water to flush out the vinegar.
What to do as needed
Every time you see grounds in the K-Cup holder or in your cup, or you don’t have enough coffee, clean the Keurig needles that pierce the K-Cup. To clean the exit needle, remove and disassemble the capsule holder, then use a straightened, unfolded paper clip to remove any debris. Raise the head and use a paperclip to clean the holes around the entry needle. Wash the container holder thoroughly before reassembling it. Complete two cycles using only water and then you are ready to go. If your java tastes like oolong or you’re making hot cocoa, make a cleansing drink without the K-Cup. Keurig also sells rinsing pods that help eliminate aroma transfer. If you’re brewing a lot of different drinks during the week, it’s a good idea to run a cleansing cycle once a week.

3 ways to use coffee pods
Coffee pods are a popular disposable alternative to other disposable products like Keurig K cups. But unlike K Cups, coffee pods can be used in a variety of ways. You can use them in a machine specially designed for capsules or another type of coffee machine. Pods can be used even without a machine!
which word symbolizes zero in tennis
steps
Method one of 3: Using the coffee maker
-
one Fill the water tank/basin. Take a measuring cup and pour enough water into the machine’s water tank to reach the “maximum filling” point. Be sure to use only cool, clean water. If desired, filtered or distilled water can be used. This will reduce mineral buildup and make your machine run longer and better.
-
2 Remove the pod from the packaging. Coffee pods are usually packaged individually to maintain freshness. Be sure to remove the capsule from the package without damaging it. To do this, break the perforated line of the coffee capsule packaging to remove it without damaging the capsule.
-
3 Place the capsule in the coffee machine. Open part of the container holder on your machine. Depending on your device, you may need to press a button to open it. Then carefully place the pod into the machine. The stand should slide easily into the holder. Once it’s inside, close the container holder.
-
4 Adjust machine settings. Depending on how strong you want your coffee, you will need to adjust the machine. Your machine should be in a light, medium, or strong setting. If it doesn’t, it might have a setting for the amount of water you want to fill the mug with. The more water, the weaker the cup of coffee.
- If you don’t change the settings, the machine will most likely make you a medium cup of coffee.
-
5 Make your own coffee. After setting the parameters, press the “cook” or “start” button on the pod machine. As soon as you start the coffee machine, it will start dispensing hot water into the coffee capsule and then the water will flow into your mug.
- Drink a cup of coffee after the flow of water has stopped.

Method 2 of 3: Coffee in bags without coffee machine
-
one Place the pod in the coffee mug. Depending on the type of capsule, you can simply place it in a coffee mug and fill it with water. To do this, take the pod out of the package and throw it into a mug.
-
2 Pour boiling water into a mug. Slowly pour boiling water into the mug. Stop pouring as soon as you are about half an inch from the top of the mug. Be careful not to get burned by the water.
-
3 Soak the pod. Let the pod soak into the water. If the pod floats to the top of the mug, hold it under the water with a spoon. Stir the water from time to time. Be sure to pay attention to this process, as your cup of coffee will not be suitable if the cup is not properly brewed.
-
4 Remove the pod after a few minutes. The amount of time you leave the capsule in the water will determine how strong the coffee is. As a result, you should consider how strong your coffee is before taking the capsule.
- Leaving the pod for 2-3 minutes will result in a weak cup.
- If you leave the capsule for 4 minutes, you get a regular cup of coffee.
- Leaving the capsule for 5-6 minutes produces a cup of strong coffee.
- Discard the pod when you’re done with it.

Method 3 of 3: Placing coffee bags in an incompatible machine
-
one Purchase a coffee pod holster or similar device. Find a holster that is compatible with your disposable coffee machine. Read the product packaging and reviews to make sure it will work with your device. This is important as there are many pod holsters on the market. Not all of them are suitable for every car. Popular holsters include:
- Capsule Holster
- Solofill
- EZ-Cup
-
2 Place a coffee cup in the holster. Do not force it in. It should fit easily into the holster. After you put the capsule in the holster, close it. Many holsters close with little effort.
-
3 Load the holster into the machine. Carefully place the holster in the machine. Slide it to where you will load the K cup, other disposable coffee or coffee grounds. Don’t try to force it in. If the holster is compatible with your machine, it should fit easily. Once you have downloaded it, you need to close the coffee loader. On most machines, this requires gentle pressure to be applied.
-
4 Place the mug on the burner. Depending on the type of coffee machine, you will want to place the mug on the burner or in another place where coffee is dispensed. Take your time and place it properly so the coffee doesn’t spill.
-
5 Install the machine. After installing the holster, you will need to adjust the settings so that the coffee cup is as strong or weak as you want it to be. At the same time, set the machine to a single portion. Depending on your machine, you can choose how much water you want to pour into the cup. This will help determine how strong a cup of coffee is.
-
6 Hit start. As soon as you press the ‘Start’ button, the machine fills the holster and capsule with water. The water (now coffee) will be directed into your mug. Once the flow is over and your cup is full, feel free to enjoy your coffee. Advertisement

- Question: I have Chock Full of Nuts capsules, do I need to remove the top of the capsule before inserting it into the holder? No, there is a clamp inside that makes holes in the capsule.
- Q: Can I just open a coffee bag and pour boiling water over it? No, it won’t work. If you don’t want to use the pods, use regular coffee instead.
- Question Can I use the coffee maker to get hot water to make tea? Yes, just make sure the capsule compartment is empty, put the tea bag in the cup, put the cup in the coffee machine and press the brew button.
- Question: I have a Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee machine where the pods are inserted with foil up to the top of the holder. Does the coffee come out through the plastic base where there is no hole? It is, but the foil on top prevents hot water from overflowing and pushes it down and out of the machine and into your cup.
- Q: Will McCafe pods fit a Bosch coffee maker? Probably no. You will need some kind of holster.
- Question. Can I use Folgers coffee pods in a Keurig coffee machine? You cannot use Folgers coffee pods in a Keurig coffee machine because the Keurig machine has a special way of taking out the coffee and then making the coffee. That’s why they have special capsules to make sure your coffee is brewed right. Using capsules from other manufacturers will not give you a good quality cup and may break your machine.

- Question Can I open the bags and install the filter to make coffee in a regular pot? You can, but it’s both more expensive and wasteful than using regular ground coffee.
