Qué es el Adviento (y su significado)

El adviento es un período de preparación para la navidad, el cual tiene una duración aproximada de cuatro semanas.

Etimológicamente, la palabra adviento proviene del latín adventus, que significa ‘llegada’ o ‘venida’. La llegada se refiere al nacimiento de Jesucristo, el Mesías, que se celebra el 25 de diciembre.

Por ende, el adviento invita a los fieles a mantenerse esperanzados, preparados y vigilantes mientras aguardan el nacimiento del salvador. Al mismo tiempo, anuncia la segunda venida del Mesías en el final de los tiempos.

El adviento es también el primer tiempo del año litúrgico de la Iglesia. Le siguen, en orden, los siguientes tiempos o períodos: la navidad, el primer tiempo ordinario, la cuaresma, el triduo pascual, la pascua y el segundo tiempo ordinario.

¿Cuándo inicia el adviento y cuánto dura?

El adviento inicia cuatro domingos antes de la fiesta de la navidad, lo que puede coincidir con el último domingo de noviembre o el primer domingo de diciembre. Finaliza invariablemente el 24 de diciembre, víspera de la navidad.

Ya que su inicio es variable, el período de adviento puede durar entre veintiún y veintiocho días. En cualquier caso, siempre contiene cuatro domingos.

Símbolos del adviento

En el adviento se usan diversos símbolos, tales como el color de las vestiduras litúrgicas y la corona de adviento. Además, las lecturas de la eucaristía siempre recuerdan el anuncio de la llegada del Mesías.

Colores litúrgicos del adviento

Durante el adviento, el presbítero o sacerdote usa estola y casulla de color morado, que representa las actitudes de preparación, contrición y vigilancia ante la llegada de Jesús.

Sin embargo, en el tercer domingo de adviento, llamado Gaudete, el presbítero usa el color rosa, símbolo de alegría ante la cercanía de la navidad.

La corona de adviento surgió en la Edad Media como símbolo de amor y luz hacia Dios. Es un aro hecho con ramas de pino o abeto, que lleva cuatro velas. Opcionalmente, la corona puede adornarse con cinta y listones; manzanas, bolitas y/o adornos frutales.

La corona de Adviento está llena de simbolismo:

• Forma circular: representa la eternidad de Dios, quien no tiene principio ni fin.
• Ramas de pino o abeto: recuerdan al árbol de navidad, y su color verde, la esperanza en la Tierra.
• Cuatro velas: representan el paso de la oscuridad a la luz semana a semana. Cada domingo del adviento se enciende una hasta que estén encendidas las cuatro a la vez. Para la liturgia, suelen usarse tres velas moradas y una rosa, pero también pueden ser de otros colores, como rojo o dorado.
• Cinta y/o listones: simboliza el amor de Dios que nos envuelve, así como el amor de los fieles.
• Manzanas, bolitas o adornos frutales: representan a la vez los frutos del jardín del Edén que introdujeron el pecado y los dones reparadores que trae el nacimiento de Jesucristo.

El significado de Adviento

Es una temporada maravillosa. Un tiempo lleno de anticipación. Esperamos la venida del gran día, un día lleno de gozo, reflexión y paz. ¿Cierto?

Usted pensará que hablo de la Navidad, que la tradición metodista unida celebra el 25 de diciembre. Culturalmente, la Navidad es el centro del año. En nuestra iglesia, las congregaciones se preparan para las observancias y celebraciones de Navidad. El tiempo que nos lleva hasta la Navidad se conoce como Adviento. Algunos se sorprenderán al aprender que el Adviento solo parcialmente se refiere a la Navidad.

Es un tiempo de gran anticipación. Se centra en esperar el gran evento, pero ocurre que el gran evento que se anticipa no se realiza completamente en Navidad. Durante el Adviento anticipamos la plena consumación de algo que empezó en la primera Navidad (cuando Cristo nació*), pero que todavía no se realiza completamente. Técnicamente, la Navidad empieza el 25 de diciembre.* Todo lo que lleva hasta esta fecha es Adviento. Es importante notar la diferencia, para que entendamos plenamente la esperanza que la fe trae a nuestra experiencia humana.

*Al observar la Navidad el 25 de diciembre, no estamos afirmando que Jesús realmente nació el 25 de diciembre. No sabemos la fecha en que Jesús nació. El 25 de diciembre llegó a ser la fecha culturalmente útil para conmemorar la llegada de Jesús a la historia humana.

¿Qué es el Adviento?

La palabra Adviento se deriva del latín “adventus”, que significa “venida”. La forma en que se observaba primero habló de 40 días de arrepentimiento, ayuno y oración en que los nuevos creyentes se preparaban para el bautismo. A menudo, estos bautismos se realizaban el día de Epifanía, que es el día que recuerda la llegada de los magos para visitar a Jesús. Era la celebración de la encarnación de Jesús.

Más adelante, los cristianos empezaron a conectar el Adviento no sólo con la encarnación de Cristo, sino con la anticipada segunda venida de Cristo. El Adviento llegó a ser un tiempo para renovar la anticipación y deseo del regreso de Jesús.

Hoy, el Adviento es un período de preparación para ambos “advientos”, las dos llegadas de Jesús. Lester Ruth, profesor de adoración cristiana en Duke Divinity School, ofrece la siguiente distinción para la idea de Adviento: “La forma más simple que tengo para distinguir entre Adviento y Navidad es que el Adviento usa la palabra ‘ven’ como una petición anhelante que se expresa en anticipación, mientras que la Navidad es una reflexión conmemorativa de cómo el Señor ha venido en el nacimiento de Cristo para dar comienzo a un nuevo orden redentor”.

En nuestra cultura, la tremenda conexión que el Adviento tiene con la Navidad descolora la anticipación del otro adviento de Jesús, su segunda venida. Unimos la conmemoración de la Navidad con la anticipación del Adviento, pero ignoramos la segunda venida removiendo así algo de la urgencia de nuestro llamado a promover el amor y la justicia de Dios en la tierra.

¿Qué queremos decir por “segunda venida”?

La mayoría de los credos cristianos contienen alguna derivación de la siguiente afirmación:

“Cristo vendrá otra vez para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos”.

La Iglesia Metodista Unida afirma que Cristo volverá otra vez para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos como preludio a la revelación de la nueva creación. De modo que, cuando Cristo vuelva traerá también una nueva creación. Esta nueva creación está definida por la unidad del Creador y la creación de la cual habla el Libro de Génesis. En el Nuevo Testamento, esta creación renovada disfruta de la libertad de la muerte, el pecado y la corrupción. La creación renovada se transforma en un mundo sin las cadenas de la muerte. Una creación liberada de sistemas y acciones por los que los humanos se separan unos de otros y de Dios.

El creer que tal mundo es posible nos llena de esperanza. El Adviento es la temporada para reflexionar y renovar dicha esperanza.

¿Qué hacemos para Adviento?

Nos parece que las observancias de Adviento podrían beneficiarse de un énfasis mayor en el Adviento que todavía está por venir, para disminuir así el énfasis en el Adviento que se recuerda en las celebraciones de Navidad, ya que cuando llegue el 25 de diciembre habrá tiempo para ellas. ¿Cómo nos reorientamos hacia el anhelo del segundo Adviento?

La adoración colectiva reflexiona en el Adviento usando una corona de Adviento rodeada por cuatro velas más otra vela al centro. Las cuatro velas exteriores representan las marcas de una creación redimida: gozo, esperanza, paz y amor. La vela central representa la presencia de Cristo cada domingo. Cada domingo prendemos una de las velas exteriores. Por último, prendemos la vela de Cristo como recuerdo de la eterna presencia de Cristo. Por su puesto que podemos usar la misma observancia en nuestro hogar con coronas de Adviento que nos hacen contemplar nuestro anhelo de gozo, esperanza, paz y amor.

Para reflexionar también usamos la música. Muchas canciones comunican el anhelo que sentimos en Adviento. Desafortunadamente, durante esta temporada estas canciones son eclipsadas por otras canciones que se centran en la Navidad. So, the worst thing that can happen is getting injured on a family vacation. I was discussing the possibility of flying to another country for the operation, as Turkey can be quite expensive, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon this site. Daily changes in keloid after steroid injection, keloid used to be aggressive, very red and itchy, but now it is slowly decreasing in size, no longer red, but now quite dark, but I think it is a bruise, for the first time in many years I did not feel itching in this area. It usually takes several sessions, but the doctor said that one may be enough, as this is not a large keloid. I hope the situation will improve in the next few weeks. As for the staff, very few can speak English, but this was not a problem for me as an agent was assigned to look after me. Thanks again 🙂

A proverb is a short, figurative, complete saying, usually rhythmic in form, with an edifying meaning.

Recording proverbs began in ancient times. The most famous collection of “Proverbs of the Russian people” was compiled by V.I. Dahlem in 1862. The most complete collection of Spanish proverbs is the edition of H.M. Sbarbie’s “Great Dictionary of Spanish Proverbs”.

Based on the research work carried out, it can be concluded that all the students surveyed know Russian proverbs, most of them know Spanish proverbs, but they rarely use them in conversation or do not notice when they are pronounced, because proverbs themselves come to mind when speaking, always to occasion.

Best Electric Scooters and E-Bikes Under $500

Many of us have seen people zipping around on electric single-wheel contraptions and thought, “I could never do that.” The InMotion V5 electric unicycle (EUC) can erase that doubt. It’s specifically designed both in size and price to make getting into EUCs safer and cost-effective.

The V5 is fitted with a 14-inch, air-filled tire and low-foot pedals to make it easier to mount and dismount. Due to the low profile of the pedals, they are slightly tilted upwards so as not to scrape the ground when turning. The device has a 450-watt motor which is tame compared to other EUCs. It has a top speed of just under 13 mph and a soft acceleration. The V5 weight is 25 pounds making it easier to carry. The build quality is solid; considering how light the wheel is, it can support a rider weight of 260 pounds. 

When I received the review sample, I planned on my teenage son doing most of the hands-on. But the weight capacity allowed testing to be a family affair. I’ve ridden larger EUCs, so the power and size felt a little off to me. I am used to larger wheels that fit better between my legs, so I was a little more knock-kneed on the V5 and, with my size and weight being close to the limit, takeoffs and acceleration were slow. The foot pedals are also smaller on the V5 than other inMotion wheels. Still, I find it a great gateway wheel to get people interested in learning and get the confidence needed to progress to the next level. 

The V5 is a beginner wheel powered by a small 160-watt-hour battery. It helps cut down on the V5’s weight and cost. But it also reduces travel distance, making the V5 unsuitable for long commutes. It can be fully charged in 3.5 hours, though. It’s also not as intimidating as other EUCs. I convinced my girlfriend to try it out, and she would never touch the larger, more powerful InMotion V11.

The best way to get familiar with riding the V5 — or any EUC — is to find an area with a long handrail and stand upright while holding the rail and rock back and forth to get comfortable with the sensitivity of the pads and how they respond. Once you get a feel for it, you can ride up and down with your hand gliding over the rail, and before you know it, you’ll be going the length of the rail without reaching for it. No, it’s not as easy to start with as an electric scooter or bike, but I find EUCs ideal for getting around because they leave your hands free and never need to be locked outside like a bicycle.

The V5 can also provide voice support, such as “be careful,” and connects to the InMotion iPhone and Android app via Bluetooth 4.0. From the app, you can see the battery life, the estimated distance that can be traveled, current speed, toggle front and rear lights on and off, run diagnostics, and a social tab where you can share photos and check out personal achievements. The V5 is rated IP55, which means you can get caught in the rain, but no submerging it in puddles. 

Like always, when learning something new, users should protect themselves and, at the very least, wear a helmet. If possible, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads. And with no handlebars or seat, you’ll probably need these with the V5 more than a bike or scooter. Still, once you get the hang of it, the InMotion V5 is an excellent way to get around.

Rules for Riders

General Rules

E-bikes may be ridden anywhere that conventional bikes are ridden and must follow the same rules of operation and use. 

Rules for scooters are similar to those for bicycles. Scooters may operate in most places bicycles are allowed such as bike lanes, paved trails and in streets. Scooters may not be ridden on sidewalks where a building face abuts the sidewalk. Riders must always yield to pedestrians.

Additional general regulations include: 

• Minimum age for riding is 16 years old
• Scooters can be ridden anywhere bicycles are allowed, including streets and paved trails.
• Riding on sidewalks downtown is prohibited. Riding on sidewalks in most other areas of the City is permitted, but riders must yield to pedestrians and use extra caution at crosswalks and driveways.
• Use the bell to notify pedestrians of your approach before passing them. 
• On roadways, riders should travel to the right, unless making a left turn or where lanes are too narrow to safely accommodate a scooter/bike and autos side-by-side. Never ride against traffic. 
• Scooter and bike use is prohibited INSIDE of any building.
• Helmets prevent head injuries and are strongly recommended.
• Using a cellphone, headphones, earbuds or any similar device that impairs hearing is prohibited while riding.
• Riders should not carry anything that would prevent them from having at least one hand on the handlebars at all times.

On Roadways

• Riders must obey the same traffic laws as drivers.
• Always yield to pedestrians.
• Yield to vehicle traffic at crosswalks and intersections.
• Use the right lane when in the street and NEVER ride against traffic.

Parking

• Parked scooters and bikes should not block sidewalks, ramps, driveways, doorways, loading zones, public benches, ADA access, or transit stops.
• Scooters and bikes must be upright when parked.
• Do not park in a way that could endanger pedestrians (such as parking with the part of the vehicle jutting into the walkway and creating a tripping risk).
• Do not park within five feet of a crosswalk or curb ramp, unless given specific permission by the City.
• On multi-use trails, riders may park only at trailheads or at other areas designated by the City.

There are many reasons why you may encounter the fact that the computer does not see the flash drive. The problem may manifest itself in Windows 10, 8.1, Windows 7 or XP. If the computer does not recognize the connected flash drive, this can manifest itself in different ways: sometimes there is no reaction to the connection, sometimes there is a connection sound, but the USB flash drive does not appear in the explorer, sometimes the drive is visible, but it cannot be opened with various errors.

Run the disk management utility in one of the following ways: and press Enter.

• In Windows 10, right-click the Start button and select Disk Management.
• Go to Control Panel – Administrative Tools – Computer Management – Disk Management.

In the disk management window, pay attention to whether the flash drive appears and disappears when it is connected and disconnected from the computer.

The ideal option is if the computer sees the connected USB flash drive and all partitions on it (usually one) in the “Healthy” state and the FAT32 or NTFS file system. In this case, it’s usually enough to right-click on it, select “Change Drive Letter or Drive Path” from the context menu, and assign it a drive letter.

If the partition is faulty or deleted, then in the status you can see:

• RAW file system. In this case, use the separate instruction How to fix a RAW disk.
• “Not allocated.” Try right-clicking on it and, if such an item is found in the menu, select “Create a simple volume” to create a partition and format the flash drive (the data will be deleted).
• If you see an arrow next to the name (Drive and number) of the drive on the left, right-click on the name and check if “Initialize Drive” is available.

If Disk Management shows your flash drive labeled “Unknown” or “Not Initialized” and one partition is in the “Unallocated” state, this may mean that the flash drive is corrupted and you should try data recovery (more on that later in article). USB drive error checking in Device Manager

Try to go to device manager and check the status and presence of a connected USB flash drive there:

1. Press the keys Win + R , type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter to open the device manager.
2. See if your flash drive appears as an unknown device, a device with an error (with a yellow exclamation point), or in the “Other devices” section (as in the screenshot) – the drive may be called there by its real name or as a USB mass storage device.

Separately about Code 43: if the flash drive reports exactly this error code, if possible, check it on another computer or laptop – if the situation is the same there, it is most likely that the reason is a hardware failure of the USB drive or a malfunction of its connector.

And one more important point: if there are unknown devices or devices with errors in the device manager even without connecting a USB flash drive, this may be the reason that the flash drive is not visible and you need to install the drivers of these devices (often we are talking about USB controllers / hubs). To do this, I strongly recommend that you manually download the drivers (chipset and, if available, USB) from the official website of the PC motherboard manufacturer or laptop manufacturer and install them. Moreover, keep in mind that even if the drivers on the official website are for an older version of Windows than you have installed, they usually work properly on newer versions of the OS: for example, you can install Windows 7 drivers in Windows 10.

Reinstalling USB device controllers in the device manager

If none of the above has helped yet, and the computer does not see any flash drives at all, and not just one particular one, you can try the following method:

1. Enter the device manager by pressing the keys Win+R and typing devmgmt.msc
2. Open Device Manager USB Controllers
3. Attention: the following action may disable your keyboard and mouse, as a rule, restarting the computer solves the problem. Remove (via right click) all devices named USB Root Hub, USB Host Controller or Generic USB Hub.
4. In Device Manager, select Action – Update hardware configuration from the menu.

After reinstalling the USB device controllers, check if the USB drives are working on your computer or laptop.

Solving problems when opening a flash drive

A common case is that the flash drive is still visible in the system, but it cannot be accessed for one reason or another with the corresponding error messages. Below is a list of instructions for the most common errors of this kind:

• USB device not recognized when USB flash drive is connected.
• The computer writes “insert disk into the device” when trying to open the USB flash drive.
• When opening a flash drive, it says that the disk is write-protected.
• Writes that it needs to be formatted because the disk is not formatted, but the formatting cannot be completed.
• Windows reports that the location is not available, access is denied when trying to open the flash drive.

Other methods for fixing a USB flash drive connection to a computer or laptop

If the previous options did not solve the problem with the visibility of the USB flash drive in the system, let’s proceed to more complex methods. Important: before starting, I recommend creating a system restore point, it can come in handy, since the described actions can potentially lead to the inoperability of other USB devices.

Checking the startup parameters of the USBSTOR service

If you disable the USBSTOR system service, the computer will stop responding to the connection of removable USB drives, that is, it will not see any flash drives. You can check the service startup parameters as follows:

1. Enter the Registry Editor by pressing Win+R and typing regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR
3. In the right part of the Registry Editor window, check the value of the parameter Start . If it is 4 , then the service is disabled. Double click on the parameter and set the value to 3 .
4. Restart your computer.

If the cause of problems with connecting the flash drive was a disabled service, these steps will correct the situation.

Removing old USB device drivers

Old USB drivers available in Windows can cause problems like “Insert disk into device” and errors related to assigning a drive letter. In addition, this can also be the reason that the computer restarts or freezes when you insert a USB flash drive into a USB port.

The fact is that, by default, Windows installs drivers for USB drives the moment you connect them to the appropriate port on your computer for the first time. At the same time, when the flash drive is disconnected from the port, the driver remains in the system. When you connect a new flash drive, conflicts may arise because Windows will try to use a previously installed driver that corresponds to this USB port, but to a different USB drive.

How to uninstall old USB drivers:

1. provided that they do not have a built-in card reader.
2. Turn on the computer again.
3. Download the DriveCleanup utility https://uwe-sieber.de/files/drivecleanup.zip (compatible with Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7), unzip the archive.
4. From the unpacked folder, run drivecleanup.exe of the required bit depth as an administrator (right-click on the file – run as administrator).
5. You will see the process of removing all drivers and their entries in the Windows registry.

When the program is finished, restart your computer. Now, when you insert the flash drive, Windows will install new drivers for it.

Two more methods to do the same:

1. Use the free Privazer program: if you run it in advanced user mode and go to the “Certain Residual Records” section, you will find an item to clear the USB history, as in the screenshot below. 2. Use the USBOblivion utility, its use and download are discussed in the section “Windows 10 does not see the USB flash drive after updating” later in the article.

Fixing problems when connecting a USB drive in the registry editor

In some cases, problems with showing a flash drive in Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7 can cause certain registry entries:

1. Open the registry editor, to do this, press the keys Win + R on the keyboard, enter regedit into the Run window and press Enter.
2. Navigate to registry key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} 

3. If in the right pane of the Registry Editor in this section you see parameters named UpperFilters and LowerFilters , right-click on them and delete them.
4. Navigate to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ 

5. If this key has a subkey named RemovableStorageDevices , remove it.
6. Restart your computer.

After restarting the computer, try connecting your USB flash drive again: if the specified registry settings were present, it is highly likely that after removing them, the USB drive will be displayed in the system.

Windows 10 does not see a USB flash drive after updating or installing

Many users are faced with the problem of not displaying USB drives after upgrading to Windows 10 from previous operating systems, or after simply installing updates on an already installed Windows 10. In this case, it often happens that flash drives are not visible only via USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 – that is, we can assume that USB drivers are required. However, in fact, often such behavior is not caused by drivers, but by incorrect entries in the registry about previously connected USB drives.

In this case, the free utility USBOblivion can help, removing from the Windows registry all information about previously connected flash drives and external hard drives (mount points of USB drives). Before using the program, I strongly recommend create a Windows 10 restore point.

Disconnect all flash drives and other USB storage devices from the computer, run the program, check the “Perform a real cleanup” and “Save the undo reg file”, then click the “Cleanup” button “.

After the cleaning is completed, restart the computer and connect the USB flash drive – with a high probability, it will be detected and become available. If not, then also try to go to the device manager (via right-click on the Start button) and follow the steps to remove the USB drive from the Other devices section and then update the hardware configuration (described above). But, with regard to Windows 10, another option is also possible – the actual incompatibility of USB 2.0 or 3.0 drivers (as a rule, then they are displayed with an exclamation mark in Device Manager). In this case, the recommendation is to check the availability of the necessary USB and chipset drivers on the official website of the manufacturer of the laptop or PC motherboard. At the same time, I recommend using the official websites of the manufacturers of the devices themselves, and not the websites of Intel or AMD to search for such drivers, especially when it comes to laptops. Also, sometimes updating the motherboard BIOS helps to solve the problem.

If Windows XP does not see the flash drive

The most common situation I encountered when calling for computer setup and repair, when a computer with the Windows XP operating system installed on it, did not see the flash drive (even if it sees other flash drives), was caused by the fact that the necessary updates have been installed to work with USB drives. The fact is that many organizations use Windows XP, often in the SP2 version. Updates, due to restrictions on access to the Internet or poor work of the system administrator, were not installed.

So, if you have Windows XP and the computer does not see the flash drive:

• If SP2 is installed, upgrade to SP3 (when performing the upgrade, if you have Internet Explorer 8 installed, remove it).
• Install all Windows XP updates, regardless of which Service Pack you are using.

Here are some of the fixes for working with USB flash drives that were released in Windows XP updates:

• KB925196 – Fixed bugs that appear when the computer does not detect a connected flash drive or iPod.
• KB968132 – Fixed bugs when connecting multiple USB devices in Windows XP, they ceased to function normally
• KB817900 – USB port stopped working after removing and reinserting USB flash drive
• KB895962 – USB flash drive stops working when printer is turned off
• KB314634 – the computer sees only old flash drives that were connected before and does not see new ones

By the way, despite the fact that Windows Vista is almost never used, it should be noted that installing all updates should also be the first step if a similar problem occurs.

HP iPAQ rw6828 ? keyboardless communicator from Hewlett-Packard

The shelf of miniature keyboardless communicators has arrived. This time Hewlett-Packard (HP) could not resist the temptation to get its piece of the pie. Far from new in this segment, the company did not reinvent the wheel and simply copied the successful model of the O2 XDA Atom communicator. Its direct manufacturer is the Taiwanese OEM / ODM company Quanta Computer. Apparently, in order not to impede the distribution of their own line of hw69 keyboard communicatorsxx, sales of rw68xx were limited to East Asia and China only.

Several different devices are planned in the rw68xx model range, of which only the HP iPAQ rw6828 is currently available. This communicator has the most functionality of those declared in the line. The main competitors of the device are various devices based on HTC Prophet, E-Ten M600 and, oddly enough, directly O2 XDA Atom. The novelty differs from the first group by the support of EDGE technology and a built-in FM receiver. From the O2 communicator only in design, the rest of the parameters remained unchanged. But devices that look like paper in life can be very different.

Inside the box, which is small by the standards of other HP devices, are: a communicator, a rechargeable battery, a stylus, a carrying case, two protective covers, a headset, a charger, adapters for various socket standards, a USB-miniUSB cable, various booklets and manuals. Plus a CD with software from Microsoft and HP. Not much, but everything you need is there. The presence of only one USB cable attracts attention, this is due to the unusual design of the power supply. It has a USB compatible connector! The communicator itself has a single miniUSB input, thus, by connecting the communicator to the power supply with the supplied cable, the device is recharged. The same cable is used to connect your device to a desktop computer. This design has its pros and cons. The positive aspects include: the need to carry a single cable for all occasions, great interchangeability of cables from card readers, etc., a standardized connector on the communicator, the ability to recharge other devices from the power supply. Negative: the impossibility of simultaneously quickly charging the communicator and synchronizing with the computer. In this case, charging from the USB port is used, which is somewhat longer than the usual procedure and not all computers can provide sufficient current.

Design and construction

HP iPAQ rw6828 is a typical representative of the class of monoblock keyless communicators subjected to maximum miniaturization ( try to imagine a maxi-mini skirt. – ed. ). By reducing the diagonal of the display, the dimensions of the communicator fit into the standard for phones and smartphones. It feels like the device is much lighter than its counterparts, despite the decent-sized battery. The color of the communicator is unusual for this season, stylish metallic silver and dark shades of gray. The whole case is made of plastic, including the insert on the front panel of the communicator, covering the screen and the block of hardware keys, as well as a stiffening rib running along all ends of the device. The combination of colors is pleasant and win-win in terms of style. The material does not leave fingerprints. If you open the battery compartment, you can see the real color of the plastic from which the communicator is made – the usual matte gray material. Along the edges, the border of spraying paint and its fine-grained structure are noticeable.

Most of the communicator’s front panel is occupied by the display. The screen is significantly recessed inside the case and framed by a recess in the plastic, which visually seems larger than it really is. A protective film with this design will easily close the gaps between the screen and the plastic, from which dust must first be removed. Under the front panel, at a decent distance from the screen, there is a group of hardware keys with a five-way joystick. All buttons of the communicator are made of silver plastic. To the left and right of the joystick are the keys responsible for starting and dropping a call, calling contacts and messages. They have interior lighting. There was no place for the key responsible for launching the traditional for HP and very useful iTask utility, just as there is no program itself. The dimensions of the joystick and the central button are such that it is very difficult to press left and right with a fingertip. Be that as it may, the key travel is very clear and it is difficult to make a mistake in pressing it. To the left and to the right of the group of keys there are two speakers of the communicator, covered with metal bars. Above the front panel are two status indicators for the communicator and wireless interfaces. Under the plate of gray plastic that covers the indicators, there is a hole in the phone speaker.

The back panel of the communicator is occupied by the battery compartment and its cover. There was also a little space for the built-in camera, next to which are a mirror and LED flash.

There are holes on the left and right sides of the communicator for attaching a screen protector. The lid, which is invariably supplied with HP Pocket PCs, has been perfected. It covers only the screen and the upper part of the front panel of the device, leaving all keys and joystick accessible from below. What caused constant complaints in the case of previous devices from HP has been fixed. The left end of the communicator is used to house the volume keys, which would be convenient to use for scrolling while reading. The right end contains the keys to launch the built-in camera and voice recorder, above them there is an infrared port window.

On the top of the communicator are: a hole for the stylus, a miniSD slot and a power button. The pen is medium in size, thin and light. The communicator’s power key is small and recessed inside to prevent accidental pressing. The bottom end of the device is used to connect the charging and synchronization cable. Nearby is a 2.5 mm headset jack. Also on the bottom are: the reset button of the communicator, a microphone and a hole for a cord.

It is most convenient to carry the communicator in a complete case that can be attached to a belt. If the communicator has a cover, it will have to be removed before being placed in a case that otherwise will not close. The dimensions and weight of the communicator, however, also easily allow you to carry it in any pocket of your clothes, or on a cord, with the risk of losing an expensive device. For design, the communicator can be given the highest mark – everything you need is provided and there are no significant comments. Externally, the device looks stylish and memorable. The silver color of the rw6828, in contrast to the glossy black O2 Atom, is pleasing to the eye, although tastes differ.

Software and settings

HP Pocket PCs traditionally come with a lot of useful software. The HP iPAQ rw6828 was no exception. The first thing that draws attention is the large number of icons and buttons on the Today page. The main screen displays all the necessary for the operation of the application and the parameters of the communicator. For example: wireless interface management, brightness and battery indicators, player and radio.

The program section of the operating system contains the following applications and utilities: Auto Configurator automatic adjustment to a given cellular operator in the region (all Big Three operators in the Moscow region are available). FM Radio built-in radio control program.

Java virtual machine for running java midlets. HP Photosmart Camera interface and software for controlling the built-in camera of your device. HP Photosmart Mobile photo album, a replacement for the standard operating system media viewer. Self Test utility for testing communicator and operating system functions. Voice Commander voice control of the device. Wi-Fi setting up and diagnosing the wireless interface of the same name.

The operating system settings section contains several utilities that are installed by the communicator manufacturer. HP Asset Viewer Information about your device’s operating system and hardware. iPAQ Audio setting the audio subsystem of the device. Active Sync Mode Switch between desktop synchronization modes.

Touch screen

The rw6828 communicator uses a transflective TFT matrix with qVGA resolution (320×240 pixels) and a physical size of 2. 7 inches (68 mm). The matrix supports 18-bit color depth (262K colors), but only 64K colors are used at the same time. The screen dimensions are such that individual pixels are almost invisible on it. Slight color inversion occurs only at very sharp viewing angles.

The brightness level of the backlight varies from maximum to completely off. Display management capabilities are provided by the operating system.

Protective cover reduces screen brightness slightly. It does not affect reading, however, without it, the picture on the screen looks much livelier and richer. Included with the communicator are two covers, different colors and transparency.

Sound subsystem

The communicator is equipped with two speakers. Phone is used for calls and is located at the top of the front panel. The main one is located at the bottom of the front panel and consists of two parts. Due to the presence of two speakers, stereo sound is provided, which is noticeable only at a short distance and when a person is located exactly in the middle. The stock volume is standard, provides an acceptable playback of ringtones. The communicator comes with a standard wired stereo headset. The accessory is equipped with a volume control and a shortcut key. To connect a headset and other types of headphones, there is a 2.5 mm jack on the bottom panel of the communicator.

The iPAQ Audio app provides bass and treble adjustment, 3D presence, and automatic microphone volume control.

The RightMarkAnalyzer 5.5 program tested the quality of the communicator’s audio path when the communicator’s headphone output was connected to the line input of the Terratec DMX 6fire sound card. The test results are shown in the following table.
