I have fond memories of playing Grand Theft Auto IV and Call of Duty with my friends on my old Xbox.

One second I was calling in an AC130 on an insane kill streak, and then the next thing I knew, I was teleporting randomly all around the map, only to be killed by a noob tube.

“GET OFF THE INTERNET!” I would scream at my little sister as she was trying to watch something stupid about dolls or makeup or whatever it is girls do online.

Suffice to say, my dad eventually had enough and upgraded the WiFi to a higher speed.

Experiencing connection issues during gameplay is incredibly frustrating. One minute you’re dominating, and the next you’re dead.

The worst part is, if you’re lagging, you can’t really do anything about it – or can you?

If you have slow WiFi, you’ll have to upgrade your router or internet connection. However, your internet connection problem may be due to a poor WiFi signal, as opposed to just a poor WiFi plan.

Wireless signals aren’t as fast as a direct connection via an Ethernet cable, and they can also be interrupted by walls and noise on the network.

When it comes to insuring you have a stable connection, you should definitely be using an Ethernet cable for gaming.

How to Improve Internet Speed for Gaming

There are a bunch of ways you can improve your internet speed.

Using an Ethernet cable is a good start, but did you know your network might be limiting your interent speed?

You should make sure there aren’t any bottlenecks on your network slowing you down.

If you’re tired of lagging or waiting a year for a game to download, I’ve just put together a 14-step checklist that’ll help you improve your internet connection speed for gaming. You can check it out here.

Now, let’s get back to the article.

How to Choose an Ethernet Cable for Gaming

If you’re going to spend your hard earned money on a gaming Ethernet cable, you’ll want to ensure you’re buying the best one for your needs. Here are some things to keep in mind before you buy a gaming Ethernet cable:

  • Length: The length of an Ethernet cable has a direct impact on connection speed. As the cable becomes longer, signal quality decreases, resulting in reduced network performance and sluggish transfer rates. Look for the shortest Ethernet cable possible, as long as it is long enough to reach your Xbox One, PS4, or PC. I’d recommend finding an Ethernet cable no longer than 300 feet.

  • Compatibility: Ensure that your Ethernet cable is compatible with your gaming system, whether it be an Xbox One, PS4, or PC. Many Ethernet cables are manufactured by an OEM (Original Equipment Provider) brand. If so, it should work with your system without any issues.

Cat5e vs. Cat6 Ethernet Cables

According to Diffen.com:

Cat6 cables, also called Category 6 or Cat 6 cables, provide lower crosstalk, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and are suitable for 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet), while Cat5e cables support only up to 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet). As a means of future-proofing your network, Cat6 is generally a better choice and worth the small premium in price. Cat5e and Cat6 cables are both backwards compatible, which means newer Cat6 cables can be used with older Cat5e, Cat5 and even Cat3 equipment.

Essentially, Cat6 cables are newer, and are capable of transferring faster than older Cat5e cables.

Both cables are interchangable, and work the same way. However, Cat6 cables are newer and faster.

If you do decide to go for Cat6 cables, you’ll need to upgrade all of the other cables in your network to Cat6. Otherwise, your old Cat5e cables will slow down the network.

Measuring in at 25ft, the cable is long enough to reach your gaming setup, even if it’s in another room. If you’d prefer a cable that is a different size, you can order a longer or shorter version of this Ethernet cable.

It comes with gold-plated connectors which help to provide a more reliable connection. The cable is capable of transferring 1000Mbps, and the connectors are easy to insert and remove.

For the price of just $7, this is an amazing gaming Ethernet cable. As far as gaming performance goes, this cable works tremendously.

During my tests, I did not experience any network difficulty. I played several games, streamed on Netflix, and downloaded a program, all without any issues.

For less than $10, this is a fantastic Cat5e gaming Ethernet cable for the Xbox One.

It has a standard PVC jacket, and male to male connectors with a snagless molded strain relief.

The cable is 50 feet long, which means you can run the wire from your router to your gaming setup, even if it is in another room. Keep in mind, however, that the longer your cable is, the weaker the connection becomes. A 50 foot cable is not going to have much of an effect on connection, but it isn’t negligible.

As far as connection goes, the Importer520 is another fantastic gaming Ethernet cable. It’s a Cat6 Ethernet cable, which is ideal for gaming. If you want to futureproof your infrastructure, buying a Cat6 Ethernet cable is a good idea. This is also a great Ethernet cable for PS4 Pro. This is also a great ethernet cable for gaming on the Xbox One.

What is Ethernet?

Ethernet refers to the most common LAN (Local Area Network) used today. A LAN is a connected network of computers (nodes) in a small area, such as a school or university, your home, or a data center. Ethernet is not wireless. Although it may seem odd that we’re still using Ethernet cables in a world of wireless connectivity, Ethernet cables actually still serve an important purpose.

Ethernet has been around since the beginning of the 1970s, and they’ve become increasingly faster with each new generation of cables. Today’s best Ethernet cables can support speeds up to 1,000 Mbps. Huge businesses that are technologically progressive have access to the newest Ethernet cables that can transfer data with speeds up to 10,000 Mbps – unfortunately, the rest of us will have to wait a while before we can use them.

Benefits of Ethernet vs. WiFi

  1. Stability
  2. Security
  3. Flexibility

Let’s break these points down:

Stability: Setting up a LAN network is more time-consuming and costly than a wireless network, but a LAN has several important benefits that wireless networks cannot provide. Firstly, WiFi signals are transmitted via radio waves. This means WiFi signals are prone to interference.

If you have a wired Ethernet cable, connection interference is not an issue. You’re far less likely to experience slowdowns and disconnections. Moreover, because each device is directly wired via ethernet, you don’t have to share bandwidth between devices.

Flexibility: Ethernet cables can transfer data up to 100 meters away (that’s a bit longer than a football field), which is much farther than a wireless signal can reach. In addition, most routers already have Ethernet ports, so it isn’t hard to make the switch.

Security: If you are dealing with sensitive information, an Ethernet cable also provides heightened security. Since your internet connection is physical, you maintain control of who is connected to your local network at all times. This frees up data for other users on your network while simultaneously preventing unwwanted and harmful security breaches.

Disadvantages of Ethernet vs. WiFi

  1. Cost
  2. Mobility

Let’s break these points down:

Cost: Ethernet cables can be expensive, and depending on the complexity of your network, they can be very expensive. If you merely want one gaming Ethernet cable for your PS4 or PC, it won’t be costly at all. On the other hand, if you’re the owner of a business – large or small – you’ll need modems, firewalls, servers, and you’ll probably have to pay someone to install it for you as well.

Mobility: If you’re using WiFi, you can walk freely about your home or business while accessing the internet. It’s incredibly convenient, and we often take this for granted. If you’re using a wired connection, you won’t be able to move around. Lastly, portable devices such as tablets, smartphones, netbooks and e-readers don’t come equipped with Ethernet ports.

What is the Best Type of Wired Connection for the Xbox One?

Although you may not have known before, Ethernet cables have been developed in different generations. Each new generation of cables has tighter twists in the copper wiring and faster data transfer speeds. Here are all of the different generations of Ethernet cables:

Cat 3 (Category 3): This is one of the oldest Ethernet cable generations. It could only support a maximum frequency of 16 MHz – this is incredibly slow, especially when compared to the speed of modern Ethernet cables.

Cat 5 (Category 5): Cat5 cables are used in some instances (usually by your grandparents), but they’ve pretty much become obsolete for the rest of the modern world. Cat5e largely replaced the older Cat5 generation. When the Cat5 was first released, it was applauded. It could transfer 10/100 Mbps over 100 meters of distance.

Cat 5e (Category 5e): The ‘E’ means enhanced and the Cat5e cables follows the strict IEEE standard. The Cat5e reduces interference from other wires, and have 1.5 – 2 twists / cm which results in an increased data transfer speed than the older Cat5 cables. Cat5e cables have become largely popular because they are budget friendly and effective. These cables use 4 data pairs as opposed to the Cat3 cables’ 2 data pairs. The Cat5e cable can support 1000Mbps. Although this isn’t as fast as a Cat6 cable, it surely gets the job done.

Cat 6 (Category 6): The Cat6 Ethernet cables have wires that are more twisted than older Ethernet cable generations. The Cat 6 cable has 4 twists per cm, which is double that of Cat5e cables. The Cat6 cable can support speeds up to 10Gbps and frequencies up to 250MHz.

Cat 6a (Category 6a): The Cat6a cable can support bandiwdth frequences of up to 500MHz, and it can transmit data at 100 meters, which is 63 meters farther than a Cat6 cable can transmit 10Gbps. The covering is also stronger which helps to protect against Alien Crosstalk and improves the signal to noise ratio.

Cat 7 (Category 7): This generation is still new and in testing, so it has not been adopted as a mainstream replacement for Cat5e and Cat6 cables. However, in lab conditions, the cable is able to transmit up to 100Gbps at a distance of 15 meters. It has extensive shielding on both the individual pairs within and the cable cover. The shielding must be grounded and a special GigaGate 45 (GG45) connector is needed to fully harness the high performance of the Cat7 cable. This cable is best used by enterprise networks and data centers, but they’re probably a bit overkill for gaming.

Cat 8 (Category 8): This cable is still being tested, but it is rumored that the cable will be able to handle 25GB and 40Gb Ethernet with faster transmission rates.

Gaming Ethernet Cable FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

I get a lot of questions regarding this topic, so I’ve created this FAQ section to answer some of the more common ones.

What is the best Ethernet cable for gaming?

In my experience, it doesn’t really matter a whole lot, but buying a Cat6 cable is always a good idea. However, if your internet connection is too slow for gaming in the first place, buying an expensive Ethernet cable isn’t going to help you.

Which is better for gaming: Cat5 or Cat6?

Cat6 cables are faster and more efficient than Cat5, so technically, Cat6 is your best bet from a performance standpoint.

However, the price to performance ratio of a Cat6 cable isn’t that great – in other words, you’ll get similar gaming performance from a Cat5 cable for a much lower price.

Is a Cat 7 cable good for gaming?

Technically speaking, yes, it would be great for gaming. From a performance/dollar standpoint, however, you’re probably better off going with a cheaper option. Cat7 cables are designed for advanced networking systems, not just for connecting an Xbox to a router.

Is Ethernet good for gaming?

Yeah, definitely. Ethernet is the best way to connect any gaming device to the internet if you want the best possible connection. WiFi may seem more convenient, but it’s definitely slower and less reliable.

Is a wired connection good for gaming?

Well, based on the answer above, yes… A wired connection is good for gaming. For some reason I’m still asked this via email even though I pretty much answered it above…

Can I use a wireless adapter instead?

Of course you can! I actually use a wireless adapter with my setup because I’m living in a college dorm, and it works well for me. Using a wired connection is only ideal if you need the fastest possible connection, and you’re somewhat close to your router.

How long can the cable be?

If your router is far away from your setup, you’re going to need a long Ethernet cable. Just remember that signal strength deteriorates as the cable becomes longer. Any of the cables on this list will do just fine.

What’s faster, wireless or wired?

Yes, sometimes I’m actually asked this question. Wired, of course!

What If Your Router Is Too Far Away?

As mentioned previously, the length of your Ethernet cable has a direct impact on network speed. If your cable is too long, your internet connection speed will suffer.

This could become an issue if your gaming setup is rather far from your router. Even if you have a cable that’s long enough, you’ll have to run the cable through hallways, rooms, and possibly behind walls. It can be a pain in the butt.

Luckily, there’s a much easier – and cheaper – solution. You can buy something called a powerline adapter.

It uses your home’s existing infrastructure to send data from your router to your device, rather than with an Ethernet cable.

Simply plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your router, and plug the other end into the powerline adapter. The powerline adapter can be plugged into any outlet near your router.

Next, in any other room in your house, plug the other powerline adapter into the wall, and then plug the Ethernet cable from that adapter into your device.

The adapters use your home’s electrical wiring to send a signal. It works surprisingly well, it’s cheap, and convenient. This is my recommendation for those of you who aren’t gaming near your router.

If you’re going to use a powerline adapter, I’d recommend the TP-Link AV1000 Gigabit Powerline adapter.

Conclusion

If you want to improve your internet connection, a Cat5e or Cat6 cable is a great way to do so. A direct connection will always be faster than a wireless connection. If you decide to buy a Cat cable, make sure it is long enough to reach your gaming setup (but not too long, or it will hurt your connection. )

Lastly, if you decide to upgrade to a Cat6 cable, you’ll have to upgrade all of your Ethernet cables, not just one. If you don’t upgrade the rest, your Cat6 cable will still work because it is backwards compatible. Although, you’d be wasting your money on the Cat6 cable, because it would be slowed down by the Cat5e cables. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

How to connect Xbox 360 to TV – LG MAGAZINE magazine Russia

Currently, computer games are gaining more and more popularity. Of course, many prefer modern gaming computers, however, this does not mean that we have begun to forget game consoles. Today, there are a large number of gamers who enjoy using the Xbox 360 at home. To enjoy the game on such a console, you need to learn how to connect the Xbox 360 game console to a TV.

Surely, users had a difficult choice: with what to connect the set-top box, what connectors and cables to use. It is worth noting that a large number of ports through which you can connect a game console can confuse any user. Therefore, let’s figure out how to properly connect the Xbox 360 to the TV.

There are several ways to connect your Xbox game console to your TV. Each has its own characteristic differences, therefore, for a competent choice, it is necessary to study each method in great detail. Each user can set up a connection. You just need to insert the necessary plugs into the appropriate ports.

HDMI . This is the easiest and most versatile way to connect your Xbox 360 to your TV. With the HDMI interface, you can simultaneously transmit high-definition image and audio. As a rule, an HDMI cable is already included with the game console. If not, then it will have to be purchased separately. It is better to stay on more expensive branded options. To connect your Xbox 360 to your TV using an HDMI cable, follow these steps:

  • Turn off your Xbox 360 and TV.
  • Remove the plugs from the HDMI cable.
  • Plug the cable into the HDMI cable socket on the TV and also on the set-top box.
  • Next, you will need to turn on the TV and connect the signal transmission via HDMI cable. Then a picture of the connected set-top box will appear on the TV screen.

This method can only be used on a modern TV model. Connecting the set-top box to an old TV will not work, since such devices do not have this connector.

AV – cable HD . Use a component cable to connect your game console to an older TV. At first glance, this may seem like the most difficult way to connect your Xbox 360, but it’s not.

Using an HD AV cable is a difficult task for many as there are quite a few different connectors. The HD AV cable comes standard with the Xbox 360, so you don’t have to buy anything extra. Both old and new TV models are equipped with the necessary interfaces.

Many users are afraid that the TV may fail after certain wires are connected to it incorrectly. In order not to make a mistake, you must use the following procedure:

  • Select the desired position of the AV connector, which will meet the requirements of the device for displaying the picture on the screen. If the TV screen broadcasts content in 480 resolution, then select the TV position.
  • Then you need to connect all the plugs to the specific colors of the connectors on the TV. Be sure to remember that if the device supports high image resolution, then in this case you do not need to connect the yellow wire to the connector. If you need to connect the set-top box to a simple model of a TV device that does not have the ability to reproduce images in the highest definition, then you need to use plugs in the following colors: yellow, white and red.
  • Then you need to connect the end of the wire of the AV cable to the set-top box connector, which has the corresponding marking – A/V.

If for some unknown reason the picture is not displayed on the TV screen, then it will be necessary to check the correct connection of the plugs to the connectors. If everything is inserted correctly, then you will be able to watch images in 1080 format. Also, thanks to this method, you can connect the Xbox 360 to an old TV.

RCA . Use an RCA adapter to connect an Xbox 360 to an older TV. The RCA interface is rarely used to connect a set-top box. This is due to the low quality of the image, only 360 pixels. Therefore, if you do not know how to connect an Xbox 360 to a TV that was released relatively recently, then this method is not suitable for you. The RCA adapter is used when connecting the set-top box to kinescope models. To connect your Xbox 360 game console via RCA to your TV, follow these steps:

  • Plug the cable into the port on your Xbox console.
  • The yellow plug provides video signal, plug it into the yellow input on your TV device.
  • White and red plugs transmit sound. They should be connected to the same colored ports on the TV.

If your TV equipment does not support a stereo signal, then you can only connect one of the two audio plugs. What to do in situations when the TV does not see the prefix? Probably the reason lies in the wrong connection. Check everything again. Also check the cable is good.

VGA . To connect the set-top box using the VGA interface and HD AV cable, you will need to buy this item in the store, as it is usually not included in the set-top box. If the TV does not have a VGA connector, then you will also have to purchase an additional special adapter. When you have a complete set of everything you need on hand, you will need to start connecting the set-top box to the TV.

  • Connect the cable to the box itself.
  • Then you need to insert the VGA plug into a special connector that matches it.
  • A/V wires must be attached to the audio jacks in order for sound to be transmitted.

If there is a problem with the picture or sound, then it will be necessary to check the tightness of all connected wires. As a result, you will receive an image on the screen in excellent clarity.

SCART . You can also connect an Xbox to a TV using a SCART cable. This cable is not included in the basic package of the TV or game console. Therefore, it will have to be purchased additionally. The main advantage of this connection method is simplicity and versatility. Using a SCART adapter, you can connect your Xbox to an old and even a CRT TV. Audio and video are transmitted through one socket, which is also very convenient.

Each of the presented options has its own advantages and disadvantages. The final choice of the optimal connection method should be based on the availability of the listed interfaces. The most practical solution is HDMI. Therefore, if you have a modern TV, then this option is a priority. In situations where kinescope models of technology are used, everything is much more complicated. The solution will depend on the availability of the cable.

2023 MacBook Cases

Apple MacBooks are powerful, high-quality and beautiful laptops that are unanimously considered the standard of style. But the laptop does not have normal protection from external influences on the case, despite the fairly durable aluminum case. Therefore, even the manufacturer recommends placing them in a high-quality case. In our online store you will find different cases for Apple laptops at attractive prices. They will definitely be able to protect your device in any situation and extend its service life.

Of the most secure cases, the products of UAG are the most interesting. These are the Plasma Series, Plyo Series, Large Sleeve, Medium Sleeve lines. They are made of premium materials and reliably protect the laptop during transportation, as they have reinforced walls and a high level of protection against mechanical impacts. UAG cases make the MacBook visually larger, but this does not affect the comfort when using a laptop, since you need to get it out of the case to start working.

The Defender Sleeve Airmax ShockSorp Bumper line from Uniq is also interesting. These are stylish and quite thin covers that have shockproof inserts to fully protect the laptop from bumps and scratches. There is also a wide range of leather cases made in envelope format. There are transparent silicone covers for MacBooks that completely protect against scuffs on the device body and at the same time do not change its appearance in the least.

You can buy protective covers for Apple MacBook laptops of different generations and versions in our online store. You can place an order in just a couple of clicks, without wasting time. Finding such covers in Moscow and the region (and throughout Russia) is not so easy. And only in our store the most delicious prices for these products. For a relatively small amount, you can reliably protect the body of your Apple laptop from wear and tear.

Cases for Apple MacBook — Customer Reviews

Benefits:
Decent assortment at reasonable prices.

Comment:
Decent assortment at reasonable prices.

Thank you. Cool service and picked up a good Clear Case For MacBook Air 13-inch (Transparent). Apple MacBook Air 13 Late 2020 Silver (Apple M1 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU, 256GB, 16GB) Z127000NL was my dream and with GSM King store it came true. Thank you)))

Benefits:
Fast delivery to Simferopol!

Comment:
Comfortable case, pleasant to the touch, does not get dirty. The quality is good, the plastic is quite thick. There are all the necessary holes.

It’s cool that there are not only old macbooks of the past and the year before last, but also new items in 2022, I usually change models in this way. Now I took air 13 2022 with a cover and keyboard engraving instead of the firmware of the 13th, which is still working briskly, but it’s time to rest)) And the new macbook on the m2 processor plows perfectly, everything went smoothly.

Advantages:
Good consultation, many new Apple products are in stock and there are pre-orders, fast delivery to Arzamas!

Comment:
I talked with a very friendly manager, following his advice, I ordered an Apple MacBook Air 13 2022 laptop, a Case For MacBook Air 13-inch case and never regretted it. Laptop with case was delivered quickly. Left another pre-order for Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) and Apple iPhone 14 Pro!

Benefits:
MacBook with accessories received on time. The price corresponds to the one stated on the site, the guarantee is also with me, the laptop works flawlessly, as it should. Special thanks to the courier for helping to check the operability of the goods.

Comment:
I bought a MacBook Air 13 2022, the manager advised on useful additional accessories, as a result, Crucial MX 1000 GB drive, Case For MacBook Air 13-inch Clear case, Satechi Aluminum Type-C Mobile Pro Hub were added to the order Adapter (Type-C to Type-C + HDMI + USB 3.0 + 3.5mm Jack)

I bought here Apple MacBook Air 13 Late 2020 American with a transparent cover and an engraved keyboard. I did not arrange delivery, because the pickup point is located in the same area as my work. At lunchtime, I just went and took the order!

Advantages:
Quickly delivered to Simferopol!

Comment:
A good case, last time we ordered one for 14 pro, now we take a new one for air 13. Looks great on the laptop, all cutouts are precise, thin and strong!

I ordered a MacBook Air 13 with Kanex auto charger and an additional Satechi hub with delivery to Nizhny Novgorod. We picked up an inexpensive cover, there are no questions about the quality. The kit, of course, came out + 15,000. But the accessories are useful! Such accessories are not sold in Nizhny Novgorod, and the price together with the whole set turned out to be almost equal to the price of a MacBook! The laptop has been running flawlessly for 4 months. Thanks for the bulk discount!

For assortment and price – five. For the work of the courier, too.

I have decided on the laptop model – Apple MacBook Pro 13 Early 2022 Touch Bar Space Gray (Apple M2 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 512GB, 16GB) Z16S001AH. I started looking for a good store on the market. I stopped at the GSM King store. They have 100% positive feedback on the market for 12 years. I made a purchase of a poppy and a cover through the website http://gsmking.ru/. The order was quickly processed, brought in the promised time interval, I did not regret that I contacted them, I join the satisfied customers!

Benefits:
Quality technology. Pleasant team. Neat pick-up point. All in essence.

Comment:
This is not my first purchase from GSM KING. I bought Iphone 13 for the first time, arranged delivery, came to pick up MacBook Pro 13 Early 2022 Touch Bar Space Gray with Clear Case For MacBook Pro 13-inch. Quality technology! Thank you.

I was just very fresh and didn’t need it, so it’s cool that about 13 this year I found it in stock and cheap. For the money it turned out better than expected. I also ordered a transparent cover and, of course, engraving, the letters were engraved evenly and accurately, the cover is of high quality, thanks for the discount!

Advantages:
Low prices, in stock, experienced manager, fast delivery to Voronezh.

Disadvantages:
When delivering to the regions, an advance payment for the order is required, but after reading reviews on the network about the site, your argument about unscrupulous buyers who order and do not pick up decided to order in your store!

Comment:
I was looking for a low price for an iPhone CE 2022, new airpods pro and a good macbook for work. I chose several stores and options among which I chose. I compared, read reviews on macbooks and their new processors, settled on the new MacBook Pro 13 2022 with the M2 process. I liked talking with your manager, she told me in an accessible way about delivery, timing, checking the laptop. I advised an inexpensive, transparent case, which is simply necessary for such a poppy.

Benefits:
Macbook 14 with a case for the money arranged and with delivery came out conveniently. There are no questions to the laptop, zero and plows as it should. The cover sits tightly and does not increase the laptop!

Comment:
Delivered after order confirmation in just a few hours directly to the office. The courier provided checks and let me check the MacBook. Thank you for the discount when registering on the site!

Benefits:
It’s more profitable to buy bundled with macbook!

Comment:
Excellent case, sits on the macbook clearly, all the cutouts for the connectors are made neatly.

Advantages:
There are covers for all popular modern devices. I picked up an excellent one for the MacBook, for an adequate amount. Not original, but not cheap either.

Disadvantages:
I did not find it, the store completely arranged it, like the cover.

Comment:
I think that the original accessories from Apple are a robbery, I never bought them, although I love the products of this company.

Advantages:
Fast delivery to Yekaterinburg. Experienced consultants. Lots of original items in stock.

Comment:
The laptop was helped by a consultant over the phone, offered several models to choose from, after clarifying all the desired parameters. Chose Apple MacBook Pro 16 Late 2021 Space Gray (Apple M1 MAX 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 2TB, 32GB) Z14V0027B with Uniq DFENDER Sleeve Laptop Sleeve for Macbook Pro 16″ Black and new Apple Magic Mouse 3 Black Multi -Touch Surface MMMQ3ZM/A Brought to Yekaterinburg in 2 days Super

    Definition of RF remote control

(Radio Frequency remote control) A handheld, wireless device used to operate audio, video and other electronic equipment using radio frequency (RF) transmission. Unlike the common infrared (IR) remotes, RF remotes do not have to be aimed at the equipment.

RF Receivers (Base Stations) Are Required

Most A/V equipment is IR based and has an IR sensor on the front panel. Because RF remote control signals must wind up as IR signals at the IR sensors, an RF receiver (base station and antenna) accepts RF and converts it to IR. Receivers are wired to an “IR emitter” (flasher) pasted onto the sensor of each device or to an “IR blaster” located inside the home theater cabinet. The blaster reflects off the closed cabinet door, showering IR signals to all the devices at the same time. See IR remote control, Wi-Fi remote control and RF.

    RF and IR
The MX-980 from Universal Remote Control (www. universalremote.com) can operate every piece of A/V equipment in a home theater. Programmed on screen (bottom) and downloaded via USB, this versatile unit transmits RF and IR signals simultaneously, and the user can even be in the next room.
    An IR Emitter
An IR emitter (left) is pasted onto the IR sensor on this DVD/VHS player. The wire traces back to a Home Theater Master RF base station that picks up the RF and converts it to infrared (IR). No matter whether the remote control is RF or IR, the signal winds up as IR at the equipment.

Management of the use of the radio-frequency spectrum for the benefit of the whole world

    1. Development and updating of international regulations concerning the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits frequency management components on international level is the Radio Regulations (RR), a binding international treaty that defines how radio frequency spectrum is allocated to various services, including space services. The RR covers terrestrial fixed and mobile radio services, satellite services, sound and television broadcasting, radio navigation, weather monitoring, space and earth exploration, and amateur radio. It contains more than 2,300 pages of text and diagrams that prescribe exactly how equipment and systems must operate to ensure orderly coexistence of services in today’s increasingly crowded radio airwaves.

    World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs)

ITU-R reviews and updates the RR at World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs), which are held every four years and last for four weeks. WRC-19 was held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and attracted over 3,400 delegates representing 163 of ITU’s 193 Member States, as well as representatives from over 600 private sector ITU Members and 150 international and regional ITU Member organizations.

The WRC considers the procedure for the allocation of specific sections of the radio frequency spectrum, as well as the procedures for coordinating, notifying and registering frequency assignments and changes to the Plan. During WRCs, government representatives negotiate and decide on appropriate changes to the RR, usually to support the introduction of new radio services and systems.

WRC preparations involve extensive research and preparatory discussions among all stakeholders (government regulators, public and private sector spectrum users, and equipment vendors) at the national, regional and global levels. Many of these stakeholders also serve as members of national delegations to the conference itself. This multi-stakeholder approach provides the opportunity to reach the necessary consensus so that the RR establishes a stable, predictable and ubiquitous regulatory environment that enables long-term investment in multi-trillion dollar radiocommunication systems.

The WRC agenda includes the review and updating of the global technical, operational and regulatory provisions that govern the use of the radio spectrum for terrestrial and satellite applications. In carrying out its activities, the conference seeks to strike a proper balance between:

    The Radio Regulations Board (RRB)

how the provisions of the RR should be applied. These Rules of Procedure are adopted by the Radio Regulations Board (RRB), which consists of 12 members elected on the basis of their qualifications, experience and regional representation.

    2. Implementation and application of international regulations regarding the use of the radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits

spectrum in the various frequency bands allocated for this purpose, and contains related responsibilities. These rights and obligations can then be transferred to the operators of each specific radio communication station on the basis of a license issued by or on behalf of the government of the country concerned.

Administrations should apply these provisions and procedures on a daily basis in close cooperation with the BR.

    International Frequency Database

One of the key elements of international frequency management is the Master International Frequency Register (MIFR). The MIFR is a database that contains the spectrum characteristics (“frequency assignments”) of radio stations operating around the world and provides these stations with international recognition and protection from interference. This database is managed by BR and currently contains 2.6 million terrestrial frequency assignments; more than 200,000 frequency assignments are added every year. This database also contains over 1.1 million frequency assignments to space services. In addition, some 350,000 frequency assignments in the broadcasting-satellite service and 25,000 frequency assignments in the fixed-satellite service are planned for future use.

The RR’s procedures for recording new frequency assignments in the MIFR are intended to ensure that each new spectrum use at a given geographic location is compatible with previously received frequency assignments. In many cases, such compatibility requires coordination between administrations and the operators involved.

The application of these procedures provides a controlled interference environment for both terrestrial and satellite systems and guarantees equitable access to the use of radio-frequency spectrum resources and the geostationary-satellite orbit.

The content of the MIFR is regularly reviewed by the BR to ensure that it is consistent with actual use. The Bureau publishes a list of maritime and coastal radio stations, which is a key element in ensuring the safety of human life at sea. The Bureau also assists administrations in applying these procedures and resolving cases of harmful interference, which currently affects one out of every 5 000 assignments.

In the event of disagreement between administrations or between administrations and the Radiocommunication Bureau, the matter may be considered by the RRB, but the decisions of the RRB may be appealed to the next WRC.

    3. Develop and update global recommendations, reports and handbooks for the most efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits, including best practices for national spectrum management

    Worldwide technical standards

9000 2 ITU -R also plays a major role in the development of global standards for radio-based telecommunication systems, including terrestrial and space systems, as well as best practices for national spectrum management. These worldwide technical standards (ITU-R Recommendations) are being developed in six ITU-R Study Groups, bringing together experts from government, industry, academia, regional and international organizations, collaborating to develop the system and service characteristics that will define tomorrow’s wireless environment. .

ITU-R is closely monitoring the growing level of radio frequency noise in the environment and the resulting increase in the number of cases of electromagnetic interference to various radiocommunication services. ITU‑R regularly alerts and cooperates with the relevant standardization organizations to monitor and consider opportunities to reduce the above phenomena. Another important task of ITU-R Study Groups is to conduct technical, economic, regulatory and operational studies in preparation for and justification of WRC decisions.

In 2020, ITU-R finalized the detailed description of the “IMT 2020 and beyond” radio interface, paving the way for a connected society based on 5G mobile broadband. This description supports radio interface operation in all frequency bands that have been identified for IMT by various WRCs.

ITU-R Study Groups radiocommunication conferences (WRCs), and develop international standards (ITU-R Recommendations) on radiocommunications. As a rule, ITU-R recommendations are voluntary. However, a WRC may decide to include individual ITU-R Recommendations by reference in the Radio Regulations, in whole or in part, making their application mandatory.

The Radiocommunication Assembly (RA) establishes ITU-R study groups and entrusts them with study Questions for the purpose of preparing draft Recommendations, reports, handbooks and other material for approval by ITU Member States. All Study Groups may establish Working Groups (WGs) and Focus Groups (TFs) to address various issues within their mandate. There are currently six Study Groups (SGs): its use, characteristics and performance of radio systems, spectrum monitoring, emergency radio communications for public safety and disaster relief, etc.

ITU-R Recommendations are useful for private companies, government activities and the scientific community. They stimulate economies of scale and economic development, support the operation of essential services to ensure the safety of human life, especially maritime safety; provide electronic collection and dissemination of news; allow aircraft tracking for air traffic control purposes and weather forecasting; provide space flight and space exploration, etc. They are also essential for the proper and spectrum-efficient functioning of radio equipment in an environment where virtually everyone now uses spectrum resources.

    4. Providing information and assistance to ITU-R Members on matters relating to radiocommunications

To inform and assist its members in the adoption of international regulations, global standards and best practices for spectrum use to adapt to these results, ITU-R also regularly hosts seminars, workshops and symposiums.

They address a range of current issues: broadband and mobile applications, digital TV transition and distribution of the digital dividend, efficient use of the orbital frequency resource, and emerging spectrum management techniques.

This activity is also part of ITU’s efforts to promote at all levels an enabling environment for the development of sustainable and efficient spectrum use at the most affordable prices in all regions of the world.

WRC-23 and provisional agenda for WRC-27. This sets the stage for the development of future technologies and guides the work of ITU-R during the next four-year study period:

    WRC Draft Agenda 23

The following materials are also invited to read: WRC-23 and provisional agenda WRC-27

They cover a range of topics: broadband and mobile applications, digital TV transition, distribution of the digital dividend, preparation for WRCs, efficient use of spectrum/orbit resources, and new spectrum management techniques such as dynamic spectrum access and cognitive radio. .

This line of work is also part of ITU’s efforts to promote an enabling environment at all levels for the development of sustainable and efficient use of radio frequency spectrum at the most affordable cost in all regions of the world.

Roskomnadzor structure creates a system for monitoring the quality of communications

The State Radio Frequency Center is developing a system that will allow you to receive information about the operation of mobile operators’ networks online / Andrey Gordeev / Vedomosti

Subordinate to Roskomnadzor (RKN) State Radio Frequency Center (GRFC) is developing a system that will allow you to receive information about the operation of mobile operators’ networks online, a representative of the department told Vedomosti. Now the development of the system is “in the design stage,” he added, without specifying the launch date.

A representative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation told Vedomosti that the ministry is “informed about this development and supports its creation.

“GRCHTs creates a geographic information system that allows to receive relevant relevant information in real time for literally every settlement in the Russian Federation,” said the representative of the RKN. He added that the GRFC is assessing the quality and accessibility of communication services for the population in the territory of settlements and along public roads of federal significance.

According to the representative of the RKN, the system will display the accumulated GRFC big data on active base stations in the form of an index. “The development of the index will allow determining the degree of development of communication networks of each operator, the share of coverage of the territory of regions, settlements, roads with mobile services, compliance with the conditions of licenses and decisions of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies,” he added. 3% of the Russian population still does not have access to modern communication services, recalls the source. The received data is planned to be made available to users, with the exception of information constituting a commercial secret, the representative of the RKN added.

Communication quality refers to data transfer rate and signal stability. Now measurements are carried out once a year using wearable and portable equipment, the results are displayed on an interactive map on the portal “quality of communication.rf”, which is maintained by the RKN. The latest up-to-date report on the quality of communication in Moscow is dated May 2023, and the protocol on the parameters on the M4 highway (from Moscow via Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar to Novorossiysk) is March 2017.

Technically automated measurements of network quality can be carried out by the operator imperceptibly for the subscriber, says an interlocutor close to one of the cellular operators. To do this, the operator sends a small amount of data to the subscriber device, and then receives it back, he explains. “This makes it easy to calculate the data transfer rate between a particular telephone set and the nearest base station,” says the source. – This is how the speed of the “last mile” is measured.

But now the RKN does not have access to such statistics, and for the system to work, operators will be forced to share data with the department, he added. Probably, such data can be obtained through SORM, the interlocutor argues. SORM is a system of operational-search activities, which operators install in accordance with the requirements of the Yarovaya package. It gives intelligence agencies the ability to gain access to calls, Internet traffic and other data of mobile subscribers. But through SORM, the location of the device is usually transmitted, and not information about the data transfer rate, the source clarifies.

“The system is most likely being created to monitor the implementation of the decisions of the State Committee for Radio Frequencies on the obligation of operators to cover all settlements with a population of 1,000 or more residents and federal highways with LTE networks within a certain time frame,” a Vedomosti source in one of the mobile operators believes. In 2021, one of the conditions for the renewal of 4G licenses was the obligation to cover by 2024 with LTE networks all settlements with a population of more than 1,000 people, recalled another interlocutor among the operators. According to him, now the regulator receives data on this through random checks of socially significant objects in settlements, where the reception speed must be at least 1 Mbps. Receiving data in an automated form can simplify the work, the source said.

Operators also collect data on call quality. According to a Tele2 representative, the company measures the level of network coverage and congestion, interruptions in calls or Internet sessions, service availability, continuity, speed and quality of the Internet, voice call quality. Beeline uses systems that analyze the operation of base stations and other infrastructure, including sensors, software, etc., as well as focus group data and technical support calls, a company representative added. The representative of MegaFon also confirmed that the operator has built a complex multi-level system for these purposes.

    Edifier G2000: One-minute review

The Edifier G2000 proves one thing, at the very least: that those PC-setup Instagrammers do have taste. Of course, it’s kind of hard to put your faith in folks who make a living promoting products. After all, they’re going to say good things about them since they’re being paid to do so. But, if you aren’t going to take their word for it, at least take Edifier’s. Hasn’t the audio brand already proven its prowess in making affordable yet great-sounding audio devices?

I have tested more than my share of Edifier products over the years, and rarely have they disappointed me. Although I must admit, I was curious about these mini-yet-mighty computer speakers more because of how they looked than their audio performance. Can you blame me? I mean, look at them! Plus, I love that they come in pink – and no, that’s not just because I’m a woman, you gender norm-endorsing philistines.

So, admittedly, I was mildly surprised at the quality of audio that blasts out of these things. Considering their size and price, it’s actually impressive that they’re able to deliver a full sound with fairly-balanced mids, a clear high end, and a decent low end. That’s on top of the connectivity options they offer, a sub out port so you can hook them up to a sub for that missing deep rumble, and customizable LED lighting.

They’re not going to rival the likes of the SteelSeries Arena 9 or the upcoming Razer Leviathan V2 Pro, clearly. But, if you want a pair of affordable speakers with a great audio performance and an appealing design, they’re an absolute ace.

    Edifier G2000: Price and availability

    • How much does it cost? ‎$109.99 / £89.99 / AU$119
    • When is it available? Available now
    • Where can you get it? Available in the US, the UK, and Australia

    Edifier G2000: SPECS

    Frequency range: 98Hz – 20kHz
    Drivers: 2 ¾-inch
    Supported connectivity: Bluetooth
Audio inputs: Bluetooth, USB sound card, 3. 5mm
    Outputs: Sub out

One of the cheapest computer speakers I’ve tested, the Edifier G2000 will set you back $109.99 / £89.99 / AU$119. Some might say that they could be a little cheaper, but considering the sound performance, multi-connectivity options, and design, I actually think that’s terrific value. Besides, anything you’ll find under $100 / £100 will likely be a disappointment in sound quality.

Although, to be fair, the Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 has proven to be quite an adversary with its sub-$75 / £75 price tag and a subwoofer included in that price. The Logitech Z407 also offers a bit more value, sitting at the same price point and also coming with a sub. Then again, the Edifier G2000 is superior, design-wise. So, it really boils down to your preference.

    • Value: 4 / 5

    Edifier G2000: Design

    • Compact, hexagonal form factor in different colors
    • 12 light effects
    • Bass port in the back of each satellite

There are likely a lot of people out there who, just like me, would want the Edifier G2000 solely for their looks. Besides their compact and space-saving form factor of about four inches wide and five inches tall, these computer speakers are hexagonal in shape and tapered towards the back, giving them a unique and attractive look. They also come in several colors, including pink and red.

(Image credit: Future / Michelle Rae Uy)

Adding to their design are three customizable lighting areas on each satellite – two on either side towards the rear and a larger one in the back. By customizable, I just mean you can cycle through 12 lighting effects using the LED light effects switch you’ll find on the side of the right satellite. While you can’t actually personalize them, the lighting on these speakers still adds to your immersion, whether you’re playing a game or watching a movie. That’s especially true if you’re an RGB enthusiast.

(Image credit: Future / Michelle Rae Uy)

Speaking of switches, there are two multi-use buttons and a volume lever situated on the side of the right satellite. The top button is both the power button and the input mode switch, while the bottom button functions as both the LED light effect switch and the sound effect modes switch. In the rear of this same satellite you’ll find the ports: there’s a USB port, an aux in, and a sub out port.

Finally, there’s a bass port in the back of each satellite. This bass port is small, naturally, about half an inch in diameter, but it does help boost the bass, which I’ll discuss in detail below.

    • Design: 5 / 5

(Image credit: Future / Michelle Rae Uy)

    Edifier G2000: Performance

    • Full sound for its size
    • Fairly-balanced mids, clear high-end
    • Sound imaging could be better

The Edifier G2000 PC speakers have a surprisingly full sound for small stereo speakers with 2.75-inch drivers. There’s no sub-bass, of course, but there seems to be a boost in upper low-end, allowing them to sound like there’s more low-end than there actually is. This is most apparent when listening to hip hop or watching a blockbuster where there’s supposed to be some low-end rumble. You do miss that deep low-end, but there’s enough bass to keep the audio sound fuller, thanks in part to the bass port in the back of each satellite.

(Image credit: Future / Michelle Rae Uy)

The mids on the Edifier G2000 are fairly balanced but not rich-sounding. Considering the size of these speakers, that’s probably for the best. Because they’re tiny and don’t have separate tweeters, the mids would likely drown everything else out if they were really mid-heavy. Besides, small speakers don’t typically have a lot of mids, so it’s already mildly impressive that these have enough of it.

Meanwhile, the high-end doesn’t sound veiled or muffled and is clear enough to satisfy most listeners, even if it’s not exactly audiophile-level detail. Considering the price of these speakers, that’s actually pretty good.

Finally, the soundstage. As long as you place the Edifier G2000 so that each speaker is angled towards each ear, the soundstage should feel wide enough. When it comes to actual sound imaging, they’re fine but not super precise. When watching Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which obviously has a lot of action, it was hard for me to pinpoint where everything was. Most of the sound seemed to just sit in the middle.

    • Performance: 3.8 / 5

Should I buy the Edifier G2000?

(Image credit: Future / Michelle Rae Uy)

    Buy it if…

    You have a small setup
The Edifier G2000 speakers are very compact and take up very little space, making them perfect for those with smaller desks.

You want something with great audio and multiple connectivity
These computer speakers punch above their weight (and size) by delivering surprisingly great audio and several connectivity options.

You’re looking for great value, instead of budget
They aren’t budget speakers, but they are affordable and come with nice features and terrific audio. They’re a great option if you want to get your money’s worth.

    Don’t buy it if…

    You need something under $100 / £100

The Logitech Z407 is somewhat of a rarity. Even now, if you want an excellent set of computer speakers, chances are you’ll have to spend a little more than $100/£100. Spend less, and you’re likely to end up with ones that sound middling at best.

Once in a while though, we are treated with more than decent computer speakers that not only look great but sound great as well. And, the Logitech Z407 is one such peripheral.

This fairly new release from Logitech has surprised us in many ways, delivering a powerful sound, rumbling bass, several connectivity options, and a nifty wireless dial for only $79 (£79, AU$149).

For that same price, the older Edifier M3200 is slightly less powerful and doesn’t offer Bluetooth connectivity. Meanwhile, the 2019-released Creative T100 may boast satellites that offer the same level of audio power, but doesn’t have a subwoofer, is slightly bigger, and costs $20/£20 more – which makes the Z407 a better value.

    Image 1 of 1

That value starts in design. At 7.87 x 3.70 x 3.35 inches (satellites) with a 9.45 x 9.21 x 7.09-inch sub, the Logitech Z407 is small enough to fit perfectly on a small desk. The speakers also sport a smart look, with capsule-shaped satellites and a dark gray finish that makes it a classy addition to work and creative setups. And, it has an overall rigid build that should see it last several years.

The Logitech Z407 is also versatile. The removable satellite stands may be attached in two ways so you can either have a horizontal or an upright setup. It also has a wireless control dial with a 20-meter range, and three connectivity options – Bluetooth, micro USB, and the 3.5 mm – which further boosts its versatility.

    Image 1 of 2

The wireless dial may be confusing at first, especially because not all media apps offer full support: Spotify does, but Apple TV on Mac doesn’t support the skip or forward functionality while Netflix on Windows won’t even let you rewind with it. On top of that, it may take you a bit to figure out whether you’re controlling the volume or the bass level as you’re essentially using the same physical dial for both.

We’re not saying it’s convoluted, just that it’s not as straightforward as most people (aka those who won’t bother reading the manual) would prefer. However, once you do get used to how the dial works, it’ll feel like an extension of the arm.

Just because there’s wireless connectivity, doesn’t mean you’ll be going cable-free with these speakers. The satellites themselves need to be connected to the sub via RCA cables. However, you still have the option to connect the system to your computer or device via Bluetooth, which means that the clutter can stay behind your desk where it belongs.

Since the Bluetooth connectivity is pretty darn good and up to par with the 3.5mm option, you can stick with it for convenience and still get excellent, lag-free audio. For slightly higher quality sound, the micro USB connection seems to have a bit more high end and detail.

When it comes to audio quality, the Logitech Z407 gets right what so many cheaper computer speakers fail to do. In fact, for a computer speaker system this compact, it blasts out surprisingly hefty audio in terms of quality and volume.

Its sound may be slightly lacking in detail and its sub can overpower the rest of the frequencies when it’s at a higher volume (though a simple turn of the dial should fix it right up). However, the  Logitech Z407 still sounds impressive.

Unlike other affordable speakers out there that tend to bump up their bass and high end, which typically make them sound harsh and easily fatiguing, this offering from Logitech is mid-focused, allowing it to produce a richer, warmer sound. The subwoofer has a lot of power for its size, with a down-firing driver that gives it a whole lot of rumble. Trust us: even at a lower bass level, you will hear AND feel this sub.

You’ll get decent separation when you’re sitting directly in front of it, which is where you’re meant to experience computer speakers. However, there’s no virtual surround sound feature here so you’re really only experiencing 2.1 audio, which means that you’ll hear things from the left, the right, and somewhere in between… but that’s about it.

As a result, it may not be immersive enough for hardcore gamers. If you’re looking for something that will help you game better, you’re better off with a gaming headset with surround sound features.

Still, the Logitech Z407 boasts plenty of rumble and produces terrific sound quality that will satisfy most gamers as well as users looking to consume media – whether that’s music or movies. And, its added perk of being versatile will benefit every type of user.

    Buy it if…

You’re looking for affordable speakers that deliver great sound.
Considering how much the Logitech Z407 costs and how compact it is, these speakers deliver sound quality that will impress as much as it will surprise.

    You need something more compact.
Small desk owners and tiny apartment renters will appreciate the compact design of the Z407. Even the subwoofer is small.

You want a smart-looking set of speakers for your office setup.
The Logitech Z407’s sleek and classy design makes it perfect for those trying to avoid flashy or gaudy peripherals.

    Don’t buy it if…

You want something incredibly immersive for gaming.
While the Logitech Z407 sounds great and has a lot of rumble, it’s a 2.1 system with no virtual surround sound features.

You only have a budget for something less than $50.
The Logitech Z407 is incredibly affordable, especially for what it offers, but there are much cheaper options if you need something in the budget market.

Speakers are needed in order to play sound from a computer, smartphone, player. Today we will talk about what speakers are for a computer.

Notebooks and monoblocks usually already have built-in speakers. But sometimes the sound volume is not enough, for example, when watching a movie. In this case, you should think about purchasing speakers.

Personal computers are not equipped with speakers. If the computer is an office one, then speakers may not be needed, a headphone jack is enough. If the computer is at home, then the speakers will be useful for listening to music, watching movies, immersing yourself in games.

    Active and passive speakers

Passive speakers do not require power and can be connected to a smartphone, laptop or computer with a single wire. Such speakers do not have a built-in amplifier and are lightweight. Usually used as portable or desktop.

It is worth noting that the market mainly presents passive speakers for connecting to an amplifier of an audio system or home theater. They are massive and not suitable for connecting to a PC.

If earlier, about 20 years ago, there were still built-in sound cards with an amplifier capable of delivering at least some power to passive speakers, but now there are no such cards on sale. The maximum that can be squeezed out of modern embedded sound cards is, probably, support for portable speakers for smartphones. However, sound card manufacturers have taken a slightly different path. Now you can find an external sound card with a separate power supply, a good amplifier and high-power passive speakers.

Active speakers have a built-in amplifier and require additional power. Active speakers with low power can be powered from the USB connector. The more powerful the system, the louder the sound can be made. In systems with a large number of speakers, it is better to focus not on the total power, but on the power of the center speaker.

    Type of audio system

The type of audio system is usually denoted by two numbers with a dot. The number to the left of the dot indicates the number of speakers, the number to the right indicates the number of subwoofers for low frequencies. The human ear does not recognize the direction to a low frequency sound source well, so there are usually only one subwoofer, rarely two.

Naturally, your computer’s sound card must have the appropriate connectors for connecting different types of audio systems.

    1.0

One column. Provides monophonic sound. Not suitable for a home computer. Now it can be used as a portable portable speaker for connecting to a smartphone. And indeed, the presence of a stereo system in one column sounds silly.

    2.0

Two columns. Provide stereo sound. The minimum set for a home computer. One of these speakers usually has a volume control and a power button. There may be a headphone input, which is convenient when short headphones do not reach the system unit.

    2.1

Two speakers and one subwoofer. This is already a good option for a home computer.

    The

Subwoofer is a large powered speaker specially designed to reproduce bass and low frequency sound.

The subwoofer is usually located in such systems, so it should be installed in an accessible place and preferably on the floor.

    3.1

Two side speakers, one front and subwoofer. This system can somehow be placed on the same table and under the table.

    5.1

Two front speakers, two rear speakers, one center speaker and subwoofer. The minimum set for a home theater. This system can be used not only for watching movies, but also for playing games with surround sound support. You can’t put it on the table either.

    7.1

Two front speakers, two rear speakers, two surround speakers, one center speaker and subwoofer. Almost the same as 5.1, only two more columns are added.

    Other types of audio systems

Next we went with the modification of surround sound systems. For example, in a 6.1 system, one of the speakers is placed at the back to balance the front speaker. The 4.0 system uses four speakers to provide quadraphonic sound. It turns out surround sound without a subwoofer. Speakers are usually installed in the corners of a room.

    Wireless audio systems

Wireless systems make it easy to connect speakers to your computer, however, this connection does not have the best effect on sound quality. Some models are able to connect smartphones using NFC, for this it is enough to bring the smartphone to the speaker.

    Bluetooth

Bluetooth sound quality is good. Usually these are portable speakers or headphones. Distance up to 10 m.

    AirPlay

Distance up to 100 m. Good stereo sound quality. Compatible with Apple devices only.

    Wi-Fi

Distance up to 100 m. Good stereo sound quality.

    Wired audio systems

Wired connection remains the most reliable and noise-free way to transmit sound today. The sound quality is affected by the type of wire and connection method.

    Analog connectors

3.5 jack (TRS, TRRS) – the most common connector for connecting audio systems. You can connect ordinary stereo speakers to this connector, surround sound cannot be transmitted. To connect 5.1 speakers, you will need several of these connectors on your sound card.

Color code for integrated 5.1 video card connectors:

    • Pink (input) – microphone.
    • Blue (input) – line input: guitar, mixer, tape recorder.
    • Green – speakers or headphones.
    • Black – side speakers.
    • Orange – center speaker and subwoofer.
    • Gray – rear speakers.

RCA (phono, tulips) – often used to transmit analog sound in modular audio systems. In this case, one connector corresponds to one channel, respectively, a pair of RCA connectors are used to transmit stereo sound, and 6 connectors are used to transmit surround sound.

XLR – 3-pin connector. Used in professional equipment. Often used to transmit a balanced signal that provides protection against interference by duplicating the signal on two wires, while the signal is transmitted on the second wire in antiphase. This allows you to remove the induced interference.

    Digital connectors

On the one hand, the use of digital sound sources eliminates induced interference and allows signal transmission over long distances. On the other hand, converting a signal from digital to analog can affect the sound quality. Allows you to transmit multi-channel audio.

S/PDIF coaxial – S/PDIF digital standard coaxial connector. Similar to RCA, may vary in color. A 75 ohm coaxial cable is used for connection. For short distances, a regular RCA cable can be used.

S/PDIF optical (Toslink) – S/PDIF digital standard optical connector. Optical cable is more resistant to electromagnetic interference.

USB – connector can be used for digital audio signal transmission. The playback quality of USB speakers can vary greatly depending on the D/A converter used.

    More about the speakers

Speaker manufacturers can add various options. For example, a built-in FM tuner, support for playing from flash drives and memory cards, a remote control or control from a smartphone.

The material of the speaker cabinet is of no small importance. Wood is considered the best material for speakers, the wooden case is the least susceptible to vibrations and does not rattle at high volumes.

Speakers vary in frequency range, sensitivity, power. Good computer speakers have a wide frequency range from a few tens to 20,000 Hz. There are two-way models with two speakers. Small speaker for high frequencies, large for mids and lows. In three-way speaker systems, respectively, three on each column. A good single-way speaker sounds better than a bad three-way speaker. Sensitivity is measured in decibels, this is its sound pressure per meter from the speaker at a power of 1 watt.

The computer’s sound card also greatly affects the type of connected audio system and the sound quality.

    Which columns to choose?

A 2.0 system with a 3.5 jack or USB connection is suitable for an office computer or laptop.

For a home computer, consider a 2.1 or 3.1 system with a subwoofer. Neighbors will be happy.

If you want to experience all the delights of surround sound at home in games or when watching a movie, then we take a 5.1 or 7.1 system. First make sure that your sound card will pull.

For professional audio work, you need a top performance audio system.

    P.S.

I probably got a bear in my ear, I’m not really fond of music, games and films, but while writing this article, I myself wanted to change my 2.0 system to 3.1…

Also, when you buy yourself an audio system, don’t any advisers and consultants. They like to sell all sorts of gold-plated coaxial wires and other bullshit. You have ears, like the sound – take it. Don’t like it – don’t take it.

How do I set up speakers on a Windows 10 computer? Why does my computer sound bad?

You will not be able to achieve loud and balanced sound with the built-in speakers in your notebook. The music will be quiet, and low frequencies are almost completely absent. They are only enough for a picky listener when watching videos or movies. If you want to get surround sound in Windows 10 with balanced audio across all frequencies, two speakers (or more) are indispensable. When the audio device has already been purchased, all that remains is to connect it. We will tell you in detail, how to set up speakers on a Windows 10 computer and touch on the rest of the steps to connect them.

How to install speakers on a computer?

The very first and most important step is to choose the right speaker placement. Much here depends on the configuration of the room, the number of sound sources, the presence of a subwoofer and the tasks. To avoid the appearance of an echo, we recommend installing ordinary speakers in medium-sized rooms, or placing models with a large number of radiators in large rooms. It is also desirable that the room has rough wallpaper and linoleum, the sound is better reflected from tiles and laminate.

Other recommendations on how to connect acoustics to a computer:

    • Install speakers at a distance of 1-2 meters from the workplace.
    • Point the speakers slightly away from the person to improve the stereo effect.
    • Use a level surface or sites with a slight slope (up to 5°), avoiding large angles.

    Speaker connection using:

There are several options for connecting speakers to your computer. The most difficult option is using minijack connectors. Here it is important to remember which jack to connect the speakers on the computer, otherwise they will not work or will be used incorrectly. On the back panel of the system unit, 6 connectors are usually installed, each of them has its own color.

Where to connect the speakers to the system unit:

    • a microphone is connected to the pink port;
    • green and blue connectors are used by the front pair of speakers;
    • black audio port is applied to the sound output of the side speakers;
    • yellow – center channel, a subwoofer is usually connected to it;
    • Gray input required for rear speakers.

Photo of where to connect the speakers to the computer.

These are the most standard sound card settings used in most computers. However, colors and their purposes may differ in rare cases.

There are other ways to connect: via USB and HDMI, but we’ll talk about them separately.

    USB

Portable speakers are increasingly using a USB cable for connection. Their installation is very simple – just choose any USB connector, but it is better to use USB 2.0 so as not to occupy high-speed ports, which are not needed anyway. Since connecting speakers to a computer via USB is very simple, we will not dwell on the issue in detail. The only difficulty is choosing the right side of the cable. The port is unbalanced, so if the plug does not fit, turn the cord 180°.

    HDMI

Few speakers connect via HDMI. This standard allows you to transmit a digital signal, that is, video and sound. It is mainly used by high-end devices, such as premium Microlab models. The low popularity is due to the fact that most computers do not have an extra port for connecting HDMI speakers. But all this allows you to reduce the number of wires going to the system unit, and allows you to listen to music in high quality.

How to connect speakers to a Windows 10 laptop:

    1. We find or buy an HDMI cable.
    2. We connect it with one side to the computer. On laptops, the port is located on the side, and on stationary PCs, on the back cover.
    3. Insert the other side into the speaker system.

Since it is not possible to connect old speakers to a computer in this way, we can use an adapter. Their significant drawback is that the output sound quality is reduced, although non-professionals will not always be able to notice the distortion.

Setting up speakers on a Windows 10 computer

In most cases, speakers will work as soon as they are properly installed, but this is not always the case. Often additional tuning is required, which is also useful for improving sound quality. If everything is installed correctly, it is worth installing the drivers. They are usually included in the kit, but are also available on the official website of the manufacturer.

How to set up speakers on a laptop:

    1. Right-click (RMB) on Start and go to the “Control Panel”.
    2. Click on the “Sound” tile.
    3. Select “Speakers” from the list, do RMB and click on the “Set up speakers” option.
    4. Set the correct location of the sound channels. We can pick them up using the “Check” button.
    5. Close the window and right-click on “Speakers” again, but go to “Properties”.
    6. Select from the drop-down item “Use this device (on)”.
    7. Set the levels on the tab with the same name.
    8. On the page “Improvements” set “Equalizer” and “Loudness”. We can also activate other modes, such as virtual 3D sound, voice suppression, and more.

Important! In addition to the drivers for the speakers, we also need drivers for the sound. Realtek software is considered the best in this niche.

See also: How to output sound from a computer to a TV?

How to check speakers on a computer?

The easiest way to check is to simply start the music, but there is a more functional way.

How to turn on the sound on the computer through the speakers:

    1. Open the tray menu (the arrow in the lower right corner next to the Internet connection).
    2. Click on “Realtek HD Manager”.
    3. On the main tab “Speaker configuration” click on the button in the form of a circle with an arrow.
    4. Checking if all columns work correctly.

If the speakers in the speaker do not play correctly, we recommend that you connect the devices to the correct ports. The faster way is to change the assignment of the connectors. To do this, on the right in the dispatcher there is a column “Analog”. We right-click on the incorrectly installed port and select “Change the assignment of connectors. ” Install the correct device. There are also great options for controlling sound in Windows 10 (on the Sound Effect tab).

What should I do if my computer has bad sound?

If the sound on your Windows 10 computer is intermittent, wheezing, high-frequency, low-frequency noise, then there is a problem with the system or hardware. Most often, it is really possible to improve the sound on a computer using software.

How to eliminate wheezing in the columns on the computer and other problems:

    • Start testing. Right-click on the speaker (the icon through which we adjust the volume of the sound) and select “Detect sound problems.” If problems can be identified, the system will try to automatically solve them or give advice on how to fix them.
    • Update drivers. It is enough to download the latest version of the drivers from the office. site and run their installation.
    • Checking the speaker settings. See instructions above.
    • Activate the sound card in the BIOS settings. Usually, the OnBoard Audio, High Definition Audio column is responsible for this.
    • Free up RAM. By pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del we go to the “Task Manager”. If the processor is loaded at 90-100%, sound may be interrupted. It remains either to wait for the completion of the resource-intensive task, or to complete it.

It may also be that the problem lies in a bad cable or connector. If there is a bad connection, a slight impact on the plug and wire will cause characteristic sounds. In such a case, it is reasonable to think about replacing the cable with a better one.

The knowledge gained from the article will help not only connect, but also configure, as well as troubleshoot possible problems with sound. Most likely, the tips will help fix the problem, although sometimes the problem is much more serious. Then you have to either change the connectors or buy new speakers.

Which Sounds Better? – Rolling Stone

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of headphones and have already ruled out earbuds, you’re left with a choice between on-ear and over-ear styles. The small distinction in wording could make a big difference in how you listen to your music.

What is the Difference Between On-Ear and Over-Ear Headphones?

While both of these models feature a traditional headband and dual earcups for listening, the main difference between on-ear and over-ear headphones lies in how they sit against your ears. The answer is quite literal: on-ear headphones have smaller earpads that sit on top of your ears; over-ear headphones have larger earpads that fit around your entire ear.

Despite their similar look, there are some key differences between on-ear and over-ear headphones you should consider before picking the best pair for you. We’ve broken them down below, and included solid starter picks for each style as well.

On-Ear vs. Over-Ear Headphones: Which One Sounds Better?

The most important factor to consider when getting a pair of Bluetooth headphones is how they will sound. The good news is that both on-ear and over-ear headphones can be sonically satisfying. They share many of the same components: modern Bluetooth chips that are energy-efficient and support audio codecs (software) like aptX and THX, and drivers (the part of a speaker or headphone that creates sound) with custom tunings.

Older Bluetooth headphones had flaky connections and added a ton of compression, but that hasn’t been the case in many years. The one audio advantage over-ear headphones have compared to on-ear models, is that they create a more immersive listening environment by completely surrounding your ears. In my experience, this has allowed them to pull ahead in terms of sound quality, but not by very much. Every pair of headphones sounds different, but you won’t be sacrificing a lot by going one way or the other.

On-Ear vs. Over-Ear Headphones: Which One is More Comfortable?

One of the biggest differences between on-ear and over-ear headphones is their size, especially their weight. Good on-ear headphones are designed primarily for portable use, but can still fit a decent-sized battery, microphones, and drivers inside. On the other hand, over-ear headphones can be used in a portable setting, but are generally larger and heavier to accommodate more hardware.

    Editor’s picks

There’s a common misconception that on-ear headphones can hurt after prolonged wear, but I’ve never found that to be the case. In fact, on-ear headphones are generally lighter in weight, and the earpads are tight without being constricting.

I regularly test both on-ear and over-ear headphones, and I can definitely tell the weight difference between the two. If you listen to music for long periods of time while you’re on the go, or look down at your phone for your entire commute, wearing over-ear headphones could put some additional strain on your neck. The other physical difference between both styles of headphones is that on-ear models are guaranteed to fit, but over-ear models may not, depending on the size of your ears.

    How Does Noise Cancellation Work?

Ultimately, the biggest feature difference between on-ear and over-ear headphones is that the latter style supports ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). Both over-ear and on-ear headphones use earpads that dampen noise from the outside world, which is known as passive noise cancellation. It’s the equivalent of closing a door to avoid hearing loud noises from another room: there’s a physical barrier between you and the unwanted sound, but nothing that makes it go away.

Active noise cancellation uses a headphone’s microphones to “listen” to the outside world and send frequencies that counteract those made from unwanted sounds into your ears. This isn’t an absolute rule because there are a few on-ear headphones that support ANC, but they give up some of the lightweight portability that gives them an edge over over-ear headphones.

On-Ear vs. Over-Ear Headphones: Which One Has Better Battery Life?

It’s easy to assume that over-ear headphones would get better battery life than their on-ear counterparts because they’re larger. Yes, over-ear headphones have larger batteries, but features like ANC require a lot of power. In the end, on-ear headphones generally last longer, unless you use over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation turned off, at which point they’re neck and neck.

You should expect to get around 20 hours of playtime from over-ear headphones, and 25 to 30 hours of playtime from on-ear headphones. Your listening volume will also impact battery life, which is something to keep in mind. Using ANC may help you to listen to music at a lower volume, which is definitely something to think about if you find your ears hurting after long listening sessions.

On-Ear vs. Over-Ear Headphones: Which One is Better?

There’s no wrong choice, but if you value battery life and portability, on-ear headphones are probably the better choice. If you want slightly better audio quality, active noise cancellation, and don’t mind heavier headphones, you should get an over-ear pair.

Bluetooth is an open standard, so any headphone you pick will work with all of your devices (even if you upgrade to a new phone, tablet, or computer), and last a long time. Here are the on-ear and over-ear headphones we recommend.

BEST ON-EAR HEADPHONES: Marshall Major III

Marshall is best-known for making amps used by bands like AC/DC, but its line of consumer-friendly Bluetooth headphones sound really good. The Major IIIs, featured in the picture above, check all of the right boxes.

The Major IIIs weigh .39 pounds, and have a simple, jet-black design featuring the trademark Marshall logo. Each earcup is attached to a hinge that can be adjusted, so the band fits comfortably around your head. The Major IIIs are collapsable when they’re not in use, so they’ll take up even less space in your bag.

Marshall equipped this pair of headphones with 40mm drivers with a custom tuning that the company says optimizes high, midrange, and low frequencies. The Major IIIs also support aptX, a codec that compresses lossless (CD-quality) music less and reduces latency (lag). Keep in mind your device needs to support aptX to take advantage of this feature.

I’ve tried multiple pairs of Marshall’s headphones over the past few years, and always found its tuning made music sound detailed instead of artificial. Unfortunately, there’s no way to change their EQ (unless you adjust the settings in your music app, if possible), so your ears have to be the judge. Marshall says the Major IIIs can get over 30 hours of playtime per charge (again, your volume level will impact this), and its battery can be fully recharged in three hours over Micro-USB.

If you don’t care about active noise cancellation, and want a well-built pair of on-ear headphones from a company with a 50-year track record of making audio gear, this is the pair to get.

    BEST OVER-EAR HEADPHONES: Razer Opus

I’ve been testing out Razer’s Opus headphones for a little while, and they strike the balance of size, battery life, audio quality, and extras better than a lot of over-ear models I’ve tried.

Razer is known for its professional gaming accessories, so it’s no surprise it brought that mindset into making these headphones. They have a sleek look, and the company’s use of hard plastic over metal kept its weight down to .58 pounds. Its headband is adjustable and well-padded, and its earcups are surprisingly plush. The memory foam kept my ears from sweating too much, and felt comfortable during extended listening sessions.

Razer says its Opus headphones are supposed to get up to 25 hours of playback per charge, and that’s been consistent in my experience. I found myself having to charge them once every five days of active use, and appreciate that Razer used the modern USB-C port for recharging, since I can use the same cable to charge multiple devices.

Overall I’ve been pleased with how this pair of headphones sounds. It’s passed the THX certification, which means Razer’s Opus has been marked by an outside authority as having “reference grade” sound. In my experience, the headphones do a good job reproducing music the way it sounds when using my reference pair. I could hear every individual element in a loose song like Peace Frog by The Doors, and have been especially impressed with the tight-but-not-overblown bass.

I like how these headphones sound out of the box, but Razer offers five additional EQ settings that you can access through its Opus app (iOS and Android). There’s no option to set a custom EQ, but I hope that feature comes in a future software update.

Like many over-ear headphones, the Razer Opus supports active noise cancellation, and does a very good job. You can’t fine-tune the level of noise cancellation, and I found it to be a little conservative when blocking out some sounds, like an air purifier when I wasn’t playing music. These outside noises were completely eliminated when I was listening at moderate volumes.

If you’d like a pair of over-ear headphones that fit comfortably, sound great, and do a nice job cancelling out noise, Razer’s Opus is a great pair to check out.

      • Sound Quality

If you are new to the world of wearable audio, you may look to compare over-ear vs on-ear headphones. Many of the best headphones, after all, come in one of these two designs. So what are the major differences between these two headphone styles and which is better for your needs? Keep reading to find out.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS:

    • Over-ear headphones tend to include slightly more additional features than on-ear models, with larger drivers and better sound quality.
    • Over-ear models also tend to be more comfortable than on-ear designs for long periods of time, as the former wraps around the ear lobe and the latter rests on the lobe.
    • On-ear models, however, are much smaller and more portable than over-ear designs, suiting workers with extended periods of commuting.

The primary difference is fairly obvious and suggested in the names of each headphone. On-ear headphones rest on the ear, while over-ear headphones cup over the entire ear lobe. This, however, leads to a host of other differences, such as when comparing on-ear headphones vs earbuds.

    Insider Tip

If you can, try any pair of headphones before you buy, to ensure adequate sound quality and comfort for extended periods of use.

    Additional Features

You’ll find that both types of headphones are stuffed with additional features, if you are looking to compare Bluetooth vs RF headphones, you’ll have your pick from both types. Both on-ear and over-ear headphones come as wireless headphones and wired headphones, with some including smart features, built-in equalizers, and all kinds of other bells and whistles. However, over-ear models tend to be for professional studio use and, as such, include advanced audio drivers and related technologies. Compare a couple we have here: Aftershockz Openmove vs Trekz Air.

    Comfort

The comfort of any headphone is, more or less, up to personal preference, but most wearers suggest that over-ear headphones are more comfortable than on-ear headphones. Why is that? Great on-ear headphones actually rest right on the ear lobe, leading to friction and pressure over time. Excellent over-ear headphones, on the other hand, wrap around the ear lobe, which lessens some of this friction. However, even the most comfortable pair of over-ear headphones will cause pain with prolonged use.

    Portability

On-ear headphones tend to be smaller and more portable than over-ear headphones, thanks to the design. As a matter of fact, many modern on-ear models actually fold, making it easy it easy to stuff them in a small backpack or purse when not in use. Of course, neither on-ear nor over-ear headphones will fit in a pocket, as this is the exclusive purview of earbuds and some in-ear designs.

    Sound Quality

Over-ear headphones tend to be for more advanced listeners, including studio engineers, so you’ll find better audio quality on average when compared to on-ear models. This is not to say on-ear headphones sound bad, as many modern units sound nearly identical to their over-ear counterparts. Technology is always advancing.

    F.A.Q.S

On-ear vs. over-ear headphones: Which one sounds better?

It truly depends on the design of each headphone. Instead, look for comfortable headphones and listen for adequate sound reproduction later.

    How does noise cancellation work?

Active noise cancellation actually creates a companion noise to the ambient noise to, effectively, cancel it out. Any noise-canceling pair of headphones tend to include this technology, even wireless earbuds.

    Which has more battery life?

Battery life depends on the actual make and model of the headphone, not the type of headphone. Each in-ear model and over-ear model will have its own battery life if they are wireless.

STAT: The construction of planar magnetic drivers with in-ear headphones ensures a better bass response and resistance to any kind of distortion, leading to better overall sound quality. (source)

SIMFEROPOL, March 4 – RIA Novosti Crimea. To avoid hearing damage when using headphones, you need to choose the right model and follow a few basic rules for using the gadget. Otolaryngologists told how to wear headphones correctly, RIA Novosti writes.

As Andrey Kryukov, chief freelance otolaryngologist of the Moscow Health Department, explained, regardless of whether you prefer over-ear or vacuum headphones, it is very important to choose the right size. Otherwise, you risk damaging the delicate skin of the external auditory canal and causing local inflammation. In addition, it is important to disinfect the headphones as often as possible, and it is best to listen to music in silence and in no case try to drown out the surrounding sounds with it.

“No headphones can provide 100% noise reduction. Some of the sounds are still audible. Therefore, this individual listening device should be used in comfortable conditions, not in the subway, in any case,” explains Kryukov.

    3 March 2021, 09:07

In 30 years, a quarter of the world’s population will partially lose their hearing – WHO

He emphasizes that the comfortable noise limit should not exceed 85 decibels – so music can be listened to for up to seven hours with short pauses. Sounds at 103 decibels are only safe for seven minutes. At the same time, the maximum volume of the headphones can reach 120 decibels.

Elena Zagorskaya, a leading researcher at the Department of Audiology and Pathology of the Inner Ear of the Scientific Research Clinical Institute of Otorhinolaryngology named after L.I.

Such models can also cause other troubles:

“When you insert an earphone into your ear, sulfur, which has protective functions, softening, disinfecting, nourishing the skin of the ear canal, moves deeper. In this case, it does not have time to dry out and remove itself from the ear, but accumulates and forms a sulfur plug. With prolonged exposure to the eardrum, otitis media may occur. ”

Another warning from doctors is the need for increased concentration while listening to music with headphones. Otherwise, you can get hit by a car or other dangerous story.

At the same time, experts note an increase in the number of requests from young people with complaints of hearing loss, although there is no documented connection between the use of headphones and this fact. In any case, if the world around you suddenly becomes quieter or you feel discomfort, you should immediately contact the specialists, since it is much easier to prevent the development of the disease than to restore hearing loss.

Passion for headphones – the road to deafness

    Irina Krasnopolskaya

The latest data from the World Health Organization is not encouraging: 12 percent of the world’s population already suffers from various forms of hearing loss. And there is no improvement in the situation. On the contrary, there is more and more work for otolaryngologists. What to do to pause the process? Doctor of Medical Sciences Professor Mikhail Leizerman answers the questions.

Mikhail Grigorievich, once read from Ilya Ehrenburg: “Silence, you are the best of everything I heard.” Paradox? Not without it. But sometimes you really really want silence. Plug your ears? The comfort of deafness does not last long – without the world of sounds, life is flawed. But more and more people fall into the category of inferiority?

Mikhail Leizerman: Recently, many opportunities have appeared to prevent the development of hearing loss, deafness. Lots of new ways to get rid of them. And at the same time, as you rightly noted, there are more and more victims of deafness. Every fifth person on the planet faces various hearing impairments. And this can happen at any age. The main culprit of this paradoxical situation is the achievements of civilization. And not only among those who love loud music. Young people do not part with headphones from morning to evening. And even going to bed, he forgets to take them off. So she joins the music, so she listens to the news, “reads” books, learns a foreign language. As if everything is good. But by doing so, they cause injury, sometimes irreversible, to their ear.

    Why?

Mikhail Leizerman: The fact is that the sound coming from the headphones, at a close distance from the eardrum, is not physiological for the organ of hearing. The middle ear is arranged in such a way that it amplifies quiet sounds, and, on the contrary, reduces loud ones, thanks to the muscle system of the tympanic cavity. And the owner of the headphones wants to hear loud music and amplifies the sound. And this, without consequences for hearing, the ear can withstand no more than an hour. The volume is no more than 90 dB.

What happens outside of these numbers is clearly to the detriment of our auditory analyzer. The ear is left defenseless because the muscles, tired of the sound, cease to perform their protective functions, and loud sounds damage the hair apparatus of the inner ear. And this directly leads to hearing loss. According to WHO, over the past 10 years, the number of children with hearing loss has quadrupled. With adults, the situation is somewhat better. First of all, because they have already formed an organ of hearing, it is less vulnerable. In addition, adults still spend less time in headphones.

12 percent of the world’s inhabitants suffer from various forms of hearing loss

I can imagine how manufacturers and sellers of headphones will take up arms. After all, every now and then there is a massive advertisement of miracle headphones, which are both outwardly beautiful and comfortable, and the sound does not distort, and so on.

Mikhail Leizerman: I am not against advertising. But first and foremost, I am a doctor. And I will speak from the point of view of a doctor. So, there are several types of headphones. You ask me which ones to choose, which ones are less dangerous? Less dangerous are large headphones that cover the auricle and thereby isolate the ear from external noise. And because they do not require the highest volume. The most dangerous are small headphones that are inserted directly into the ear canal. They do not isolate a person from external noise. Therefore, in order to better hear the desired sounds, the wearer of such headphones increases the volume.

I must also say: a person with headphones on the street not only loses his hearing acuity, but more and more often becomes a victim of traffic accidents. Pedestrians wearing headphones are three times more likely to be hit by a car. I myself am constantly driving. And when I see a person on the road wearing headphones, and even with a hood on his head, which limits peripheral vision, I immediately start to slow down – I understand that he does not see or hear me.

I know that among your patients there are many rock musicians. And you visit their concerts…

Mikhail Leizerman: I remember sitting in the front row. After that, for three days I was tormented by noise and congestion in my ear. In short, such a concert has the same effect as when firing from artillery pieces. It is known that most gunners suffer from hearing loss. A recent example: the famous English musician and drummer of the Genesis band Phil Collins announced the termination of the concert activity due to a sharp decrease in hearing. That is, he became a victim of his own talent.

Dead end? Children will join the ranks of the deaf?

Mikhail Leizerman: I think that parents should not be led by children and not buy them modern, fashionable, beautiful headphones. Am I naive? Children from headphones, as well as from computers, cannot be torn off? Alas, maybe so. And yet: it is necessary not only to try. And it is necessary to ensure that the time in the headphones was strictly limited. There is no other way, unfortunately.

best budget Android phones for gaming, big battery and good design

    Daniil Bazdyrev

I am sure that cheap does not mean bad

    Author’s profile

Not everything that is inexpensive is assembled poorly or from the cheapest parts.

To reduce the cost of a smartphone, manufacturers often cut back on materials, parts, and features. For example, the screen may be bad, but the shell may be slow. But you can still find good models for 15,000 R.

I looked at what was on sale in stores at the beginning of 2023, noticed the best options and tested them to rank the best low-cost smartphones.

    Selection criteria

The smartphone market in Russia has changed a lot lately. According to M-Video-Eldorado, Chinese brands accounted for 60% of the market in 2022. The most popular manufacturer is Xiaomi, followed by Realme. Samsung, the leader of previous years, fell to third place. The top 5 also included Apple and Tecno, a new brand for Russians.

Current smartphones up to 15,000 R are designed for communication, music, video and browsing. They are not suitable for amateur photographers or active gamers. Heavy games work stably on models from 23,000 R with more powerful processors, and only flagships from 40,000 R are given really good pictures and videos.

In addition to the price, I recommend paying attention to several parameters.

Shield. Manufacturers of budget models often save on displays – they put matrices with a low HD resolution like 1650 × 720 pixels. The image on such panels is not very high quality, the picture is loose, individual pixels are visible. It is better to choose devices with Full HD + resolution – 2220 × 1080 pixels and higher. This is the gold standard for modern smartphones.

Processor. The comfort of use depends on the power of the processor: the stability of the phone, the speed of launching and switching applications. Most processors in budget devices are slow, but there are balanced options like the MediaTek Helio G99.

It is difficult to understand the power in terms of frequency and number of cores – it is better to look for reviews or comparisons in benchmarks. The most common test is called AnTuTu, good budget devices get 250,000-300,000 points in it. If the rating of the device is below 200,000 points, it will work slowly and may slow down even in ordinary applications like navigator or social networks.

RAM. It determines how many programs can run simultaneously without interfering with each other. For a budget smartphone, the minimum comfortable amount of RAM in 2023 is 4 GB.

Expensive for a budget phone: Poco M4 Pro 5G review

But if possible, it’s better to pay extra for 6 or 8 GB of RAM. Such a smartphone will quickly switch between a browser and a couple of social networks, and you can safely keep a navigator or music streaming in the background.

Built-in memory. The minimum comfortable volume is now 64 GB. Apps and games take up a lot of memory space, as do high-resolution photos. If you need to store a lot of photos, music and movies on your phone, it is better to choose models with 128 GB or with support for microSD memory cards.

Chamber. Quality camera modules are expensive and require a powerful processor. Therefore, budget smartphones shoot much worse than mid-range and top-end models.

Chinese brands are cunning by installing three cameras and declaring a resolution of up to 50 megapixels. The modules themselves are still budget, and the lenses and processing algorithms are primitive, so they don’t shoot very well. In addition, out of three lenses, usually only one is really useful – the main one.

Autonomy. Battery capacity is measured in milliamp-hours – mAh. The larger the value, the longer the smartphone, all other things being equal, can work. Now it is worth focusing on values from 4500 to 5000 mAh.

Screen brightness and resolution, processor power, and the quality of software optimization also affect the operating time. Two different phones with the same batteries can differ in autonomy by one and a half to two times.

After studying the range of stores and customer reviews, I selected eight models that met the selection criteria:

    1. Infinix Note 12 2023.
    2. Poco M5.
    3. Poco M4 Pro 5G.
    4. Tecno Pova 3.
    5. Samsung Galaxy A23.
    6. Realme C35.
    7. Tecno Camon 19.
    8. Xiaomi Redmi 10C.

Of these, I chose five that fit the categories

    • The best choice
    • Most autonomous
    • With the best camera
    • Entry-level
    • Up to 10 00 0 Р

But we do not distort or embellish the reviews. The choice of specific things does not depend on whether we receive a commission.

Product reviews in Tinkoff Magazine are independent. We make a verdict based on reviews of things and devices that we carefully studied, or how these things performed during editorial tests.

For reviews, we either request products from the manufacturer for a test, or we buy them ourselves, or we study reviews in other publications and user opinions. Our reviews are subjective, but honest and expert: opinions are written by authors who have more than one review behind them. The editorial team of Tinkoff Magazine double-checks the texts, proofreads them and conducts fact-checking.

All prices are at the time of publication of the material, but we update them periodically to keep the reviews up to date.

The best choice – Infinix Note 12 2023

Infinix is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that, together with Tecno, is part of the Transsion holding. The company produces models with good value for money. The latest Note 12 2023 is no exception – it’s the cheapest smartphone at this level of performance.

The powerful MediaTek Helio G99 processor is installed here. This is a mid-range chip: switching between applications is fast, heavy games run at medium settings. 8 GB of RAM is more than other models in the selection. 128 GB built-in storage. In all respects, the best option.

The screen is one of the best in the selection, using a bright AMOLED matrix with Full HD+ resolution. There is no increased hertz, the screen refresh rate is the standard 60 Hz, so jerks are noticeable when scrolling quickly through menus and sites.

Large diagonal – 6.7 inches. The back cover is semi-matte and hardly collects fingerprints. The camera block is designed in the form of a large round washer located in the left corner. In my opinion, it even looks too unusual.

5000 mAh battery – standard in the mid-range segment, enough for a day of heavy use. There is a fast charge of 33 W, which charges the smartphone in an hour. A powerful power supply is already included – it does not need to be purchased separately, unlike the flagships of Apple and Samsung.

Best Standalone Smartphones: 7 Successful Big Battery Models

The camera consists of two modules. During the day, the main 50MP camera produces clear and bright pictures. In difficult conditions like twilight and darkness, a smartphone can blur the frame, but almost all budget devices sin with this. The second camera is needed to blur the background when shooting portraits.

Infinix Note 12 2023 has NFC for contactless payments, a separate slot for two SIM cards and a memory card, loud stereo speakers.

    How much:

    • in M-video – 14 999 R;
    • on Yandex Market — from 14,186 rubles.

Alternative. The Poco M5 has the same processor as the Infinix Note 12 2023 but is otherwise simpler. It uses 4 or 6 GB of RAM, and the size of the internal memory can be 64 or 128 GB.

Instead of an AMOLED panel, the Poco M5 has a simpler 6.58-inch 90Hz IPS screen. The black color on it seems grayish, viewing angles are worse, there is no support for Always on Display, and the brightness is one and a half times lower than that of Infinix. But on the other hand, the display is spared from high-frequency PWM flicker – for some susceptible users, it causes eye fatigue.

I like the material of the back panel – leather-look plastic. The smartphone does not slip in the hands, and the back side is not covered with scratches and fingerprints. You can carry your smartphone without a case and not worry about its appearance.

The 5000 mAh battery lasts for a day and a half of active use. There is no fast charging, the device will have to be connected to the outlet for two hours.

Of the minuses, I can single out the MIUI 13 shell: the interface is overloaded with unnecessary functions and ads, the system may start to slow down or give errors in unexpected places.

    How much:

    • in DNS – from 11 990 R;
    • on Yandex Market – from 11,400 R.

The most autonomous – Tecno Pova 3

The main feature of Tecno Pova 3 is a 7000 mAh battery. With such a battery, you can count on two days of active work. This is especially impressive against the background of individual flagships, which have to be charged every day, or even twice a day.

The huge battery affected the dimensions: this is the largest phone in the selection. Tecno Pova 3 weighs 230 g, it has a huge screen – 6.9inches. It is worth taking a smartphone in hand before buying and checking whether it is convenient to use it. The display is good: a high-quality IPS-matrix accurately reproduces colors, and with an increased frequency of 90 Hz, the pages in the browser and the interface scroll smoothly. But in terms of brightness and contrast, the screen is inferior to AMOLED.

Tecno Pova 3 looks catchy. In the blue version of the smartphone, the strip on the back panel glows and flashes when there are calls or notifications. In other versions, it is simply brilliant. The main body is made of matte plastic and hardly collects fingerprints.

The equipment for a state employee is good: 6 GB of RAM, a 128 GB drive and a MediaTek Helio G88 processor. The smartphone does not slow down and does not freeze. The main camera here, although at 50 megapixels, shoots mediocre. During the day, the pictures are overexposed, with unnatural colors, and at night they are blurry, with an abundance of noise.

Tecno Pova 3 has a practical design with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a fingerprint scanner conveniently located on the side, and a microSD slot separated from the dual SIM tray. There is NFC for contactless payment via Mir Pay.

Tecno’s weak point is the proprietary shell of the operating system. It works rather slowly, the menu with applications opens with jerks. But the software can still be improved with updates. But there are many useful programs: call recording, a quick access panel, the ability to hide applications behind a password.

    How much:

    • in MTS – 16 990 R;
    • on Yandex Market – 14 490 R.

With the best camera – Samsung Galaxy A23

Samsung budget smartphones are popular because of the well-known brand. They are often inferior to models from China in terms of performance, but the 2022 line turned out to be successful.

Samsung Galaxy A23 is an inexpensive smartphone with a good set of cameras. The 50MP main module takes decent shots with high detail and excellent HDR effect. It even has optical stabilization for better night shots. The ultra wide-angle camera is great for capturing large objects that can’t fit in a normal lens.

Galaxy A23 is available in several versions with different amounts of RAM and storage. We are considering a model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, as it fits best in the budget up to 15,000 R. But this is not the best option: in this configuration, the phone cannot quickly switch between several applications. Galaxy A23 with 4 GB of RAM is only suitable for those who use the smartphone not very actively, it is better to take the version with 6 GB.

The 5000 mAh battery lasts for a day and a half. The device supports fast charging at 25 W, but there is no such power supply in the kit – you will have to buy it separately. There is NFC for contactless payments via Samsung Pay and Mir Pay.

Large screen – 6.6 inches, Full HD+ resolution. The PLS-type matrix is bright, with rich colors, but there is no perfect black here. Thanks to the display frequency of 90 Hz, the image is also very smooth.

Samsung has developed one of the most convenient Android skins – One UI. It has a well-thought-out and clear menu with settings, many useful features, and high-quality animations.

But the case is the main drawback of the Samsung Galaxy A23. It is made of glossy plastic and is instantly covered with streaks and scratches. It’s better to buy a case right away – unlike most Chinese brands, Samsung does not put it in a box.

    How much:

    • in M-video – 15 499 R;
    • on Yandex Market – from 14,389 R.

    Entry-level – Realme C35

Realme C35 is one of the most beautiful budget smartphones in 2022. It can be seen that when creating the model, the developers were inspired by recent iPhones.

Flat edges, slim body and neat camera setup make Realme look noticeably more expensive than it really is. The green version looks especially cool – this color is rare.

Separate microSD tray, NFC, headphone jack and fingerprint reader in the power button. The 6.6-inch screen is large and clear enough. It uses an inexpensive IPS-matrix with a V-shaped cutout for the camera and a frequency of 60 Hz. There is a function in the settings that automatically reduces the screen resolution to save energy, but because of it, the image becomes unpleasantly hazy.

Realme C35 loses in power to most devices in the selection. But the Unisoc T616 processor and 4 GB of RAM are enough for the interface to work without noticeable slowdowns, and applications to run reasonably quickly.

    Review of Realme 10 – “people’s” smartphone for 15,000 R

The resolution of the main camera of Realme C35 is 50 MP. But she shoots averagely at best. In modern smartphones, the quality of images depends much more on processor power and the quality of processing algorithms, and not on optics and the number of megapixels. A budget device with an entry-level chip cannot compete with more expensive models even with the same camera modules. Daytime shots are moderately detailed, with natural tones, but noise and blurring appear at night.

The shell from Realme is clear and convenient, without built-in ads. It does not load the processor with complex animations, it is well optimized. This is almost a pure Android OS: only the icons have been changed and a few features have been added, such as the black and white screen mode.

The phone works without difficulty for a day and a half with active use. There is fast charging, but in fact it is quite slow – at 18 watts. Realme C35 is charged from the supplied power supply in two hours.

    How much:

    • in “M-video” – 12 999 R;
    • on Yandex Market – from 9990 R.

    Best up to 10,000 R – Xiaomi Redmi 10C

If the budget is limited to 10,000 R, you will have to reduce expectations in almost all respects. Screen and performance suffer the most in this segment.

In my opinion, the most acceptable option within R 10,000 would be Xiaomi Redmi 10C. It has a simple 6. 71″ HD screen. From a close distance, individual pixels can be seen.

The back panel and frame are made of plastic, which does not even try to disguise itself as glass or metal. But there are no fingerprints left on the body, the ribbed cover is difficult to scratch.

Three versions of Redmi 10C with different amounts of memory can be found on sale. With a limited budget, the average configuration will be optimal – with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory.

The performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor is enough for simple games, normal applications start with a slight delay. Desktops with widgets can slow down, and heavy applications like Vkontakte or navigator can sometimes freeze.

Xiaomi Redmi 10C is suitable for calls, chatting in instant messengers, watching YouTube and using banking applications. The smartphone can also be used as a spare: it has a long battery life and is inexpensive.

    How much:

    • in M-video – 9999 R;
    • on Yandex Market – from 9110 R.

    Laptop Docking Stations for Dell

If you have ever transitioned from a desktop to a portable computer, you have noticed increased portability but have dealt with a decreased number of USB connections and power. Laptop docking stations were designed to remedy this issue by bringing back the versatility and connectivity of a desktop computer with an increased amount of e-ports and USB connectors. Whether it be a need for additional monitors for a better display, extra accessories, a port replicator, or e-port functionality, this can all be done just by docking a laptop on a docking station.

    What is a docking station?

A laptop docking station is an accessory that can be used at home or in an office. Basically, the laptop docking station is a dock that extends the functionality and versatility of your portable computer.

What is the connectivity like for the laptop docking station?

    • Productivity: Laptop docking stations give you the option of connecting your portable computer to extra monitors. You can connect your computer to as many as three monitors. The use of more than one monitor increases your workspace and how much information you can work with at one time.
    • Connectivity: You may also connect your laptop to other various external devices of your choice. Having extra USB connections means you can connect an external keyboard and mouse. In addition, you will have other areas for additional USB connections.
    • The internet: You may also connect your computer to the internet using a single cable. Thanks to the laptop docking station, you can connect to the internet just like a regular desktop computer.

What are some tasks you can do with a dock?

Owning a dock provides numerous features. Not only will you have more e-ports for use, but you will have more versatility. Here are some advantages:

    • A lot of tasks can be done over a wireless communication: A docking station that is readily available will provide a working wireless connection. This means that your communication and productivity remain uninterrupted.
    • More USB connections: Having limited USB connections may not be an automatic loss for some, but for those who need to connect accessories like keyboards, mouse, or number pads, more USB ports are needed to have the same performance as a desktop . If you have a dock, you can turn your Dell portable computer into a desktop computer almost instantly.
    • Docking is like a desktop: Whatever a Dell desktop computer can offer, a docking station can offer as well. Using the station gives you both the features of a desktop computer and the advantages of a portable computer.

Which Sounds Better? – Rolling Stone

    Table of Contents_

    • Differences Between On-Ear Headphones and Over-Ear Headphones
      • Additional Features
      • Comfort
      • Portability

The doctor told which headphones to use so as not to go deaf

100-inch 4K TVs are coming, but we’re not ready for them

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.

For as long as I’ve been covering TVs, TV makers have been pushing the narrative that people enjoy bigger screens – a pretty safe assumption, honestly – and that’s why they’ve continually introduced larger and larger screen sizes to meet demand.

A few years ago that meant a big push for 75-inch TVs. Then 85 inches. This year we’re looking at 97-inch screens from LG, TCL, Samsung, and more.

But are we ready for screens that big? Do we even have the space and budget for them, or are these TVs simply for the ultra-wealthy?

Here’s the hidden issues with buying a screen the size of your wall.

2022 is the year of mass-production 100-inch TVs

The continuous roll out of larger and larger screens has, until now, really been a blessing for cinephiles. We’ve been able to get 65- and 75-inch TVs for under two grand for the past few years, and now we’re seeing 85-inch TVs come close to reaching that price point, as well.

That’s driven down the cost of 55-inch TVs and 40-inch TVs, all the way down the line.

It’s a very reasonable expectation that the same will happen when these monstrous new 100-inch TVs hit the market: they’ll drive down the cost of the other TVs in the lineup, which is, unequivocally, a good thing.

At CES 2022, we got our first look at some of these new hyper beasts. TCL took the wraps off a 98-inch QLED TV, while LG unveiled a 97-inch G2 OLED. Samsung says its MicroLED TV will now be available in three new “consumer-friendly” sizes of 110, 101, and 89 inches.

I’m obviously excited about these TVs for a number of reasons (they serve as incubators that will help develop several new technologies like MicroLED) but I don’t think most of the world is ready for them – myself included.

The real cost of owning a wall-sized television

So what’s the problem with bigger-screen TVs? Well, if you can have them delivered and set up in the screening room of your Hollywood mansion, then not much.

For most of us, though, that’s probably not the case. In the US, there are some 43 million households that pay rent instead of owning their own place. In the UK, nine of the country’s 67 million residents live within the confines of London. Essentially, there’s not much room in either of these places for a 97-inch screen that has to come down whenever the lease is up.

There’s also the assumption that many of us can even afford these TVs in the first place, which might not be the case considering the five-digit sums that these TVs fetch.

We don’t have exact pricing details for the LG 97-inch G2 OLED, but chances are it’s not going to be anywhere close to affordable. The 77-inch G1 OLED from last year is currently selling for $3,999 / £4,799 (around AU$6,000), which means the 97-inch will probably be double or triple the cost considering how much harder it is to produce OLEDs in the new larger screen size.

Heck, even the more consumer-friendly TCL XXL Series isn’t all that easy on the budget. So far we’ve seen that the 98-inch R754 QLED TV costs $7,999 (around £5,900, AU$11,200), and that’s before you factor in a warranty and setup.

No matter how you slice it, these TVs are going to be expensive, at least for the foreseeable future.

Ultra short-throw projectors might be a better solution, honestly

OK, so 100-inch TVs probably aren’t the ideal solution for most folks due to the price and size restrictions, but you know what might work? Ultra short-throw projectors or laser TVs.

Ultra short-throw projectors deliver the picture performance of traditional projectors and they can sit right up against the wall instead of requiring an awkward ceiling mount system.

Models like Samsung’s The Premiere deliver all the specs and modern conveniences of a 4K smart TV. For $3,500 / £3,999 (around AU$4,900), you’re getting a maximum screen size of 120 inches and a 2. 2-channel speaker system. You will miss out on the color vibrancy of an equivalent QLED TV, but there’s no way you’ll be able to get anywhere close to this screen size for that price.

Admittedly, there are some conceptual designs that should solve the space issue I’ve pointed out – like LG’s new rollable OLED TV – but those aren’t quite ready for the mainstream yet.

Ultimately, there’s always a trade-off to make when buying a new technology. You can either have something cutting-edge and expensive, or something older and cheaper. You shell out for a large-screen TV or save money by buying something more reasonably priced. You can’t, however, suddenly change where you live just to accommodate a 100-inch TV, nor is it easy to suddenly change your budget from two grand to almost $10,000.

If you have the housing stability, space and the budget for these new super-sized screens, that’s wonderful. But, for the rest of us, 100-inch TVs aren’t the future we’re ready for quite yet.

100-inch TVs Are Here – Cineluxe

Coming close on the heels of Samsung’s 98-inch display, Sony ups the big-screen ante by two inches more

    by John Sciacca
    December 6, 2021

One of the biggest announcements to come from Sony Electronics this year was the introduction of a new class of TV: the Bravia XR100X92. For those in the know deciphering Sony’s model numbering, you’ll pick up that the 100 refers to the screen size, with this the company’s first residential foray into a 100-inch direct-view LED TV. Along with this Sony, Samsung also launched its own near-100-inch display, the 98-inch QN98QN90 (shown at right).

Both sets boast all the latest technology must-haves, including 4K HDR with Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1 with support for 4K at 120 frames per second for next-generation gaming, premium video processing for the best image quality, and HDMI eARC for Dolby Atmos support, and offer the ability to have a cinema-sized display in any lighting environment. We’ve seen size-creep happening over the past few years—with 65-inch TVs quickly being replaced by 75- and 85-inch models in larger, shared-viewing spaces—and these larger screens are the natural evolution.

We’ve certainly enjoyed large displays in the past, particularly with the size wars around 2008 when Panasonic did the ultimate one-up on everyone by displaying a 150-inch plasma screen at CES. I remember seeing it in person and feeling the wave of heat that poured off the screen as you stood near it—its power demands would make you customer-of-the-month with your electric company.

But, beyond the quantum leaps in technology improvements 13 years have brought, these sets are now very real, run off a standard power circuit, and are offered at pricing that makes them attractive for a variety of applications. Considering Samsung debuted a different 98-inch model just two years ago at $100,000, these displays represent a massive shift, with the Sony retailing for $20,000 and the Samsung for $15,000. At that pricing, it will open quite a few options for going with larger screen sizes in more areas, such as a primary display in a open-floorplan media room or second home.

One of the big advantages direct-view LED displays have over front projectors—the traditional technology used for larger sizes—is their ability to work in open spaces and in rooms that get a lot of natural light. To deliver its best image quality, a projector requires a near-black viewing environment or use with special ambient-light-rejecting screens. In the past, people living in townhomes or beachfront would have to either commit to a lot of window treatments in order to get a room dark enough for a projection system to be viable or wait until sundown to watch. But these sets have plenty of light output, and can deliver reference-quality black levels in any lighting condition, allowing them to be used in locations without any shading. They are also great for play/game rooms where you want to watch/game with the lights up and still enjoy a no-compromise, immersive image.

For absolute image quality, direct-view displays like these also have a real advantage on brightness, contrast, and HDR presentation. With the flagship video processing and multi-zone local dimming available on both the Samsung and Sony, black levels can plumb deeper, and bright whites have more pop, delivering far more contrast than a projector is capable of. Further, they have the advantage of Dolby Vision compatibility, a dynamic HDR version that is becoming the choice for streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix but is still not supported by any home projector manufacturer due to light-output limitations. Also, there is no concern over having to pair it with the correct screen material, ensuring you get the best picture quality straight out of the box.

Another great benefit is they don’t require any other components to work. Whereas a projector is just a display, requiring a screen, audio system, and source components to function, these sets require just power and Wi-Fi to be fully up and running. While any serious viewing will certainly benefit from adding a separate audio system—and with the myriad of options available, concealing or integrating a full surround speaker system is within the reach of any designer or integrator—the larger screen and cabinet size enables using larger, more full-range speakers to provide audio that is a step up from smaller sets. And with a host of built-in apps, you can stream true 4K HDR content from the likes of Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, and Vudu. Both sets also offer voice-control support from Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, giving a simple, hands-free control option. For owners looking to have a statement-piece video display in a second home or larger bedroom but don’t want the complexity of adding other components with it, these displays make an attractive option.

Of course, concealing a 100-inch screen when not in use can be a challenge, and having a massive “black hole” in your space can impose design concerns. With a motorized projection screen, you can just roll it into a concealed case up in the ceiling and have it completely out of site when off, which is certainly more of an issue with a panel measuring 89 inches wide by 51 inches tall and weighing just under 200 pounds. While both Sony and Samsung offer ambient modes to display curated photos or artwork when not in use, these sets can also expand the use of digital-canvas applications, where artwork can be commissioned for display when the set is off, turning the large screen from an eyesore into a centerpiece. While both sets can be safely mounted on standard 2×4 wall construction, higher-end automation manufacturers like Future Automation and Nexus 21 offer a variety of creative—and custom—pop-up and drop-down lifts that can conceal the set away until it’s showtime, an option your designer or integrator could discuss to find the best way to incorporate.

At these sizes and prices, these sets will certainly start the conversation about what is possible in different areas of the home, as well as how the design should look and what kind of sound system option will make the best pairing. But they definitely beg the question: Will they replace front projection systems in dedicated movie spaces? And that is something I’ll answer in an upcoming post.
