Many of our favorite devices come with Wi-Fi built-in, meaning all we need is a password and a nearby router and we’re off to the races. Unfortunately, for many desktops (and SOME other devices), you’ll need to bring your own Wi-Fi. USB Wi-Fi adapters allow you to convert your favorite USB-enabled devices into internet-surfing machines.
Whether you are building a gaming PC, or supplementing a motherboard that doesn’t have built in connectivity, USB Wi-Fi adapters are great, inexpensive devices to get moving online. Plug them in (maybe download and install a driver) and you’re ready to go. With support for a wide range of speeds, and USB 3.0 compatibility (which we recommend using for the best results), there is something for everyone on our list. Read on for our list of the best USB Wi-Fi adapters – and click here to find them in the UK.
The Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 is the complete solution. With a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 connection, which enables both 2.4GHz (up to 600Mbps) and 5GHz (up to 1,300Mbps), you’ll have plenty of speed, particularly if you use it in a USB 3.0 port.
Additionally, it has an optional dock, beamforming, and an adjustable antenna array with four antennae inside, to make sure your signal stays strong.
If base Wi-Fi functionality is all you need, and you want to save cash, this TP-Link Archer T3U Plus adapter is for you. As small as a thumb drive (with an adjustable antenna), this is an extremely portable, inexpensive option.
As far as reception and speed go, it supports dual-band AC wireless, and you’ll have up to 400Mbps with 2.4GHz connections, and up to 867Mbps with 5GHz connections.

Wi-Fi Technology: 802.11n | Frequency: 2.4GHz | Signal rate: 150Mbps
If you must get the absolute cheapest, tiniest option, this one is for you. While it only supports 2.4GHz 802.11n connections up to 150Mbps, this tiny USB nub will get you going, and since it doesn’t protrude far, you can leave it in your USB port all the time.
While this speed might seem slight, compared to some of the other adapters on this list, it is still plenty for general use. Whether streaming HD or 4K HDR video (or Netflix’s small 25Mbps requirement), this one will get you where you need to go.
When gaming using Wi-Fi, whether you’re actually playing online or just downloading games, it’s essential to have a solid, speedy connection. The Asus USB-AX56 is a simple plug-and-play solution ready to deliver WiFi 6 support if your device is lacking in that area. The adapter uses a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface and two stylish built-in antennae for a better connection, or use the extension cable and cradle to place the adapter in an ideal position for the strongest signal.
Once you’ve got the Asus USB-AX56 setup, you’ll enjoy dual-band Wi-Fi with a 2.4GHz band offering 574 Mbps, while you hit the fastest speeds of 1201 Mbps on the reliable, ideal-for-gaming 5GHz band. Beamforming and MU-MIMO technology are also included for a more efficient connection. And all of this is packed into a compact, easy-to-use device.
Just because your PC lacks a built-in Wi-Fi card doesn’t mean you need to lose access to high-bandwidth networking. The Netgear Nighthawk AXE3000 provides stunning speeds whether you opt to connect over its 2.4GHz band or jump to the 5GHz or 6GHz band. That’s right: this is a tri-band Wi-Fi adapter. However, you’ll only be able to make use of that 6GHz band if you’ve got a Wi-Fi 6E router. It doesn’t stop there, as this adapter also uses MU-MIMO, OFDMA, beamforming, and WPA3 security for a great online experience.
The Netgear Nighthawk AXE3000 is a compact little number that slots directly into your computer’s USB port and has a flip-up antenna for a better signal. If you want to position the adapter to receive the best signal reception, it also comes with a small cradle and a longer USB cable. Once connected, the 2.4GHz network can reach a speed of 600Mbps, which is plenty for what most of us do on our computers. The 5GHz and 6GHz networks go even faster at up to 1,200Mbps, and that’s great for gaming and 4K or even 8K streaming, should your ISP and router be able to hit those speeds.
While this adapter may not reach the dizzying heights of speed that some of the others on this list can, it’s a fantastic middle-ground for those who want to strike a good balance between performance and price. Plug the 3 ft. long cable from the base station into your USB 3.0 port and place it where you’ll get the best reception.
With a 400Mbps 2.4GHz connection and an 867Mbps 5GHz connection available in this dual-band adapter, you’ll have all the speed you need for most activities, whether streaming, gaming, or whatever else you like.
The Linksys AC1200 is a dual-band adapter with the perfect balance of size and speed. You get a 2.4GHz band that hits up to 300Mbps and a 5GHz band capable of 867Mbps speeds, giving you flexibility and less interference when you connect. There’s even beamforming technology built in, helping improve speed, range, and reliability.
The tiny form factor of the Linksys AC1200 makes it easy to take along with you. It’s only slightly larger than the size of a traditional USB drive. Using the adapter is also simple, as you just plug it into your computer’s USB 3.0 port, and it’ll download. Soon after, you should have a powerful Wi-Fi signal. And the device works great with the majority of routers, making it easy to get connected on computers without Wi-Fi cards.
Just because an adapter is small, doesn’t mean it’s weak. Netgear’s A6150 AC1200 Wi-Fi USB adapter is about as small as they come, at just 5 grams. It supports dual-band connectivity, letting you hop onto either 2.4GHz (300Mbps) or 5GHz (867Mbps) Wi-Fi networks, and it even supports beamforming and MU-MIMO connections.
While the tiny size of this adapter means you can leave it in your USB port all the time, and it is incredibly portable, not having an antenna means it suffers when you are very far from your router, so keep that in mind when thinking about buying.
If you’re looking to get Wi-Fi 6 support from a USB adapter, look no further than the D-Link DWA-X1850. This compact device offers up all the benefits of the latest generation of Wi-Fi including OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and 1024-QAM. These technologies ensure you’re getting fast and consistent speeds even when multiple devices are connected to the same network. Just be sure you’ve got a router that supports Wi-Fi 6, so you can take full advantage of the better bandwidth distribution and efficient data transfer rates. This USB adapter is also backward compatible and will work fine with your older routers too.
The D-Link DWA-X1850 uses a USB 3.0 connection for a quick plug-and-play solution to get your computer Wi-Fi enabled. And, you can connect over 2.4GHz or 5GHz, which tote some solid speeds of 574Mbps and 1,200Mbps. These selectable dual bands offer up beamforming to prevent bottlenecking and ensure a stable connection. Data-heavy tasks like large file downloading, 4K streaming, and gaming will be a breeze for this USB Wi-Fi adapter to take on.

What to look for in a USB Wi-Fi Adapter?
2. 4GHz vs 5GHz: You’ll see these numbers a lot when looking at Wi-Fi devices, and 2.4GHz and 5GHz refer to the network standard your device uses. Basically, this refers to the connection’s speed and range.
The further you are from the signal source, the worse your connection will be, and the slower it will be. While 2.4GHz is older and slower than 5GHz, it can operate at longer ranges, making it better for basic internet usage, streaming, and more. 5GHz, on the other hand, gives you a much faster connection, at the cost of shorter range.
USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0: Like 2.4GHz and 5GHz, the most important difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is speed. Unlike Wi-Fi network standards, however, USB 3.0 is always better. It’s a newer format, so not all machines support it, and if they do, you might only have one or two ports, and you may need to decide which of your devices gets to use them. Speeds on USB 2.0 cap out at 480Mbps, but USB 3.0 can reach 5Gbps, so we definitely recommend dedicating one USB 3. 0 port for your adapter.
802.11: Even if you have a USB 3.0 port, and an adapter that can use 5GHz bands, if you don’t have a router that can push those speeds, you’ll still be stuck with slow internet (a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, it’s true). If your router uses 802.11g then it won’t go above 54MB/s. 802.11n is a bit faster, but most modern routers use 802.11ac standard, which is the one we typically recommend, because it has a higher speed ceiling.

what is it on a laptop and router, where to get it

Many novice personal computer users are interested in the Wi-Fi network security key, what it is. The system protects the Internet connection from other people. They will not be able to find out the login or password, hack personal data. After finding out the functionality, you need to make a choice of code. It is divided into different types, differing in the degree of security and rules of use.
Entering the code
Why you need a security key
To understand about the Wi-Fi network security key, what it is on a laptop, find out other names for this option:
network authentication;
protective system;
authentication method.
The system has the following functions:
maintaining the security of data stored on the laptop;
no access to the router for other users;
Wi-Fi network protection.
The user first finds out what the security key should mean. Then proceed to installation and use.
Security types
Security options and encryption types
When the user has managed to understand what a Wi-Fi network key is and where to get it, they start using one of the types.
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). An easy technique that is now outdated. It has a low degree of protection, so it is rarely used. If the system can be on an old PC, scammers can hack into it to get personal data.
WPA (Wi-Fi protected Access). A more secure and modern type of encryption. It is suitable for most operating systems, and any PC can be easily connected to it. Hacking is not available, so scammers will not be able to find out personal data.
WPA2. This is a more modern version. Encryption occurs via AES CCMP. There are 2 types of security key. Personal (PSK) – creates a password to access the Internet. The same key is required each time, it does not change. Enterprise is a more complex system that is more often used in enterprises. A strong security measure can authorize and connect a user through a server that generates passwords.
WPA3. Latest version developed in 2018. It instantly connects the user to the network when entering a password. Prevents other clients from accessing the system without authentication. Prevents scam attacks, keeps you safe.
WPA2 recommended for home use. The functions are enough to protect the household network. If you want to prevent hacking of enterprises, large firms, switch to WPA3.
Programs that allow you to find out the security key
If you need to know the security key, you can use a variety of programs. WirelessKeyView is suitable for the home. It is characterized by the following features:
interaction with any type of Windows OS;
the ability to download a 32 or 64-bit version;
installation on a PC or phone.
WirelessKeyView program
Once the download has occurred, proceed to launch:
Open the application with root rights.
Find the desired network, connect.
Viewing encrypted data.
It is often requested through the program to view the password through hacker software. Doing this is not recommended. This leads to a high risk of infection with viruses.
On a mobile device
If a person has forgotten the key to the network, he can be recognized via a smartphone. This requires root rights obtained through the Play Market. We often use Root Explorer according to the instructions.
Pre-download on Google Play.
Through the phone search, they find the “Data” section. In it they go to “Misc”, then to “Wi-Fi”.
In the folder that opens, you need to find the “wpa_supplicant.conf” parameter. The program is used through a web browser.
Go to the “SSID”, “PSK” section. 2 lines will appear in front of the user. The first indicates the name of the Wi-Fi wireless network, the second indicates the password.
Unable to access without root rights.
Query wpa_supplicant.conf
Decrypt using laptop or PC
Connecting via PC is also easy. Start step-by-step actions:
at the bottom right of the screen, click on the Wi-Fi icon;
click on the “Network and Internet settings” button;
in the section that appears, look at the inscriptions at the bottom by clicking on “Network and Sharing Center”;
in the new window, select “Wireless Network Properties”;
go to the “Security” tab, check the box “Display input characters” to receive the cipher.
The user will be presented with a network security key that can be copied or remembered.
Similar actions are possible for most operating systems.
Decryption using router
After the user has learned about the network key for the router, what it is, they start searching. To understand how to view the data, follow the steps:
Turn the router over, where the manufacturer must write the IP address to enter the device control panel.
Through the search for a computer, they go to “Wireless Network”.
In the section that opens, write out the connection in SSID, the password in “PSK password”.
The name of the lines for different manufacturers (TP LINK or Asus) may differ, but the principle of operation remains identical. Therefore, the user can define a password.
IP address on router
What should be a good password
A good password should match the qualities:
lack of predictable personal data;
the presence of capital and small letters, numbers;
random combination.
If the cipher matches these data, it will be almost impossible to break it.
Create a complex password
To create complex code, use a random password generator. It is impossible to predict its actions, therefore it is used even in serious enterprises.
An example of a generated password looks like this: Mk0K#4EH9D or xPSp@$8~Ce.
How to change the wireless security key
To change the code, follow the steps:
View the name and password on the back of the router.
Go to the authorization page, where the received data is entered.
Select “Wireless” section.
Select “Wireless security” in the additional menu.
Find the PSK line where the new data is entered.
By clicking on the “Save” button, the user will switch the system to use a different password. It needs to be checked by connecting to Wi-Fi.
Sometimes a full reset is required
Resetting the router to factory settings
To reset the router to the original connected settings, follow these steps:
enter the device control panel;
go to the “System Tools” tab;
find the item “Factory settings”;
click on “Restore”, confirm the action;
then it remains only to reboot the device.
If these steps are too complicated, just use the button on the back of the router to return the original data.
Many network users forget the password to access the system. To remember it, you can use the security key check. The option is applicable to encrypt data from other users.

Protecting your home wireless network is an important step in preventing it from being hacked. In most homes, the router stands between the users in the home and the people who will intercept their data for nefarious purposes. But, to protect your wireless network, simply connecting a router is not enough. You need a wireless dongle for the router and for all devices in your home that use the router. A wireless key is a type of password commonly used on Wi-Fi wireless computer networks to increase their security.
WEP, WPA, and WPA2 keys
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is the primary security standard used in Wi-Fi networks. The original WPA standard was introduced in 1999, replacing the old Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) standard. A newer version of WPA called WPA2 appeared in 2004.
All of these standards include support for encryption, that is, the ability to encrypt data transmitted over a wireless connection so that it is not easily understood by outsiders. Wireless encryption uses mathematical methods based on computer-generated random numbers. WEP uses the RC4 encryption scheme, which the original WPA replaced the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). Both RC4 and TKIP used by Wi-Fi ended up being compromised as security researchers found flaws in their implementation that could be easily exploited by attackers. WPA2 introduced the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) as a replacement for TKIP.
RC4, TKIP and AES use different length wireless keys. These wireless keys are hexadecimal numbers that vary in length—typically 128 to 256 bits—depending on the encryption method used. Each hexadecimal digit represents four bits of the key. For example, a 128-bit key can be written as a 32-digit hexadecimal number.
Passwords against keys
A passphrase is a password associated with a Wi-Fi key. The password can contain at least eight and no more than 63 characters in length. Each character can be an uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, or symbol. The Wi-Fi device automatically converts passphrases of various lengths into a hexadecimal key of the required length.
Using Wireless Keys
To use a wireless key in a home network, the administrator must first enable the security method on the broadband router. Home routers offer several choices, usually including –
WEP WPA WPA2-TKIP WPA2-AES
Among these, WPA2-AES should be used whenever possible.

Why do we recommend LED Black Light Strips?
• LED Black lights are more energy efficient that older style black light bulbs or black light tubes. • LED Blacklight strips do not have a large glass cover making them much harder to break than black light flood lights, or black light bar lights. • UV strip lights are very lightweight. You can stick them to the walls without the need to screw in heavy duty brackets that are required with most other black light styles. • The long length blacklight strip lights allow you to surround a space in UV light ensuring that the glow party glows bright from all directions with no dark spots. • Black Light LEDs roll up and pack into a very small box for easy storage when not in use. • The blacklight strips are reusable and have a very long life span. If you remove the lights and the adhesive backing is no longer sticky, simply purchase and use 3M command strips to rehang the lights for your next glow in the dark party.
Glow Party Decorations
When decorating for a black light glow party it is all about the neon colors! The more neon color you can add to the black light party area the more things will glow and the more spectacular the party will look. Not all materials or colors will glow underneath UV lights, but we guarantee the awesome decorations below will!
FAQs about black Lights
A black light party is a visually spectacular party, involving a range of bright, colorful, neon colored objects, decorations, costumes, and face paint, that glows in the dark under UV light!
A black light party can also be referred to as a glow party, neon party or glow in the dark party. UV black lights are used, which are designed to make white and neon colored objects fluoresce (glow). Guests are usually asked to dress up in their brightest neon colors to ensure they glow. Neon face paints are often used to paint each others face and bodies.

2 Common Samsung Dryer Problems
Samsung is generally known for making dependable, high-quality products. However, like all the top brands, sometimes Samsung dryers have problems. The most common issue is that the dryer is not heating, followed by the dryer making loud, unusual noises. Make sure to disconnect the power or gas to the dryer before removing any access panels.
1. Dryer Not Heating
One of the most common issues reported with Samsung dryers is that the dryer is not heating. This issue with Samsung dryers is usually caused by a burnt-out heating element. However, it may also be caused by a blown thermal fuse, a defective thermistor, or a ventilation blockage.
Defective Heating Element
The heating element in a well-maintained dryer should last at least 15 years. However, a burnt-out heating element is often responsible for heating issues with Samsung dryers. The element usually burns out due to wear and tear and a failure to keep the ventilation clear, which puts pressure on the heating element.
The heating element can be visually checked for coils that are damaged or grounded. If a coil is broken, the element will likely need to be replaced. The element can also be checked with a multimeter for continuity (a continuous electrical path). If there is no continuity, the heating element should be replaced.
To check the heating element:
Unplug the dryer from the power source. If you have a gas dryer, turn off the gas.
Locate the heating element. On most models, a metal frame will surround the heating coils and hold the heating element leads.
Check the element for damage, including broken coils.
Use a multimeter to test the heating element for continuity. If the heating element fails the multimeter test, it will need to be replaced.
Blown Thermal Fuse
Another common issue with Samsung dryers is that the dryer is not heating due to a blown thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to prevent your dryer from catching fire. With newer models, if the dryer temperature exceeds a certain level, the thermal fuse is blown, and the dryer stops working. With older models, the dryer may continue to work but without producing heat.
To check the thermal fuse:
Disconnect the dryer from the power source. If you have a gas dryer, turn off the gas.
Check the dryer’s manual for the location of the thermal fuse. Depending on the model, the dryer’s drum may need to be removed to access the fuse.
Remove the relevant access panel.
Test the thermal fuse with a multimeter for continuity.
Replace a defective thermal fuse with a new one.
Make sure to identify what caused the thermal fuse to blow to prevent the fuse from blowing again. A buildup of lint is often the cause.
Faulty Thermistor or Thermostat
Heating problems with Samsung dryers are also commonly caused because of a defective thermistor (temperature sensor) or thermostat. A continuity test with a multimeter is needed to determine if the thermistor or thermostat needs to be replaced. With most Samsung models, the thermistor and the thermostat are located close to the heating element.
To check the thermistor and thermostat:
Locate the thermostat leads and use a multimeter to test for continuity.
Next to the thermostat, you should find the thermistor.
Repeat the multimeter test on the thermistor.
If either of these components fails the multimeter test, the component should be replaced.
Clean Out the Ventilation
If the dryer’s ventilation is blocked, the dryer will struggle to heat and may turn off before completing a cycle. First, check that the lint screen is empty. Then, check the ventilation hose that connects to the back of the dryer. Remove the panel that surrounds the ventilation hose to check for further blockages.
The external vent that takes air from the dryer and deposits it outside the hose should be cleaned at least once per year. To check that the external ventilation is working, check for a warm, consistent airflow where the ventilation exits the house. A ventilation cleaning kit or a vacuum attachment can be used to clean the ventilation.
2. Dryer Making Noise
Another common problem with Samsung dryers is a rattling, squeaking, or grinding noise. The noise is usually caused by damaged rollers or bearings, a worn-out dryer belt, or a defective idler pulley.
Damaged Drum Rollers or Bearings
If the drum rollers or bearings are damaged, the dryer will make loud, unusual noises, usually a grinding or squeaking noise. Some dryer models have two rollers at the back of the dryer, while others have two at the front and two at the back. The rollers also have bearings in them, which can wear on the axles. When you examine the rollers, make sure that they spin freely. If the rollers have completely worn out, they are likely to have also damaged the axles. If a roller, axle, or bearing is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
Worn Dryer Belt
The dryer belt is part of the pulley system that rotates the dryer drum. A loud thumping noise indicates that the dryer belt is worn or broken and needs to be replaced. A drum that cannot easily be rotated also indicates a faulty dryer belt. To check the dryer belt, unscrew the relevant access panel. If the belt is broken or loose, replace the belt.
Defective Idler Pulley
In the past, Samsung dryers have been known to have problems relating to the idler pulley. The idler pulley allows the drive belt to operate smoothly by keeping tension on the drum belt to prevent slippage when the dryer is in use. The idler pulley can wear out over time because of friction and its high rotation speeds. Initially, a faulty idler pulley will make a loud squeaky noise, but it can progress to a thumping or scraping sound.
To check the idler pulley, remove the relevant access panel and inspect the pulley. Look for signs that the spring mechanism is not working or that the pulley bearing is not turning freely. Lubricating the bearing may solve the issue; otherwise, replace the faulty part.

The following causes that occur when the dryer does not stop are listed from most likely to least likely. Check or test each cause, starting with the most likely causes.
Cause 1 Airflow problem
If the vent is clogged or partially clogged, it will restrict airflow through the dryer, significantly increasing drying time. To ensure proper dryer performance, you must clean the dryer ventilation system at least once a year.
Cause 2 Impeller
The impeller works with a drive motor to supply air to the tumble dryer. Lint, socks and small items of clothing can escape from the lint screen and enter the impeller. In addition, the impeller sleeve may wear out, allowing it to become loose on the motor shaft. If something is blocking the impeller or if the impeller is damaged, it may take too long to dry the clothes. To determine if the impeller is working properly, open the vent and check the air flow. If the air flow is weak, check the impeller for obstructions. If there are no obstacles, then try to manually rotate the impeller and if it dangles, then replace it.
Cause 3 Gas valve solenoid
Gas dryers have two or more solenoid valve coils. The gas valve solenoids open the gas valve to allow gas to enter the burner block. If the solenoid fails, the burner may operate intermittently. If the burner continues to turn off, the dryer is not heating up enough and may not stop. To determine if one or more of the gas valve solenoids has failed, check the igniter. If the igniter glows and goes out, but does not ignite the gas, then the gas valve solenoid is faulty. If one or more gas valve coils are faulty, we recommend replacing all of them as a set.
Cause 4 Heating element
The heating element heats the air before it enters the tumble dryer. Over time, the heating element may burn out. If the heating element does not work, the clothes will dry much longer. To determine if a heating element is burned out, use a multimeter to test it for continuity and if not, replace it.
Cause 5 Heating element unit
The heating element (heater) heats the air before it enters the tumble dryer. Over time, the heating element may burn out. If the heater block does not work, the clothes will dry much longer. To determine if a heating element is burned out, use a multimeter to test it for continuity and if not, replace it.
Cause 6 Lint filter
The lint filter may be clogged. Dryer sheets and fabric softener can leave residue on the lint filter, reducing airflow. If the fluff filter is clogged, clean it.
Cause 7 Humidity sensor
The humidity sensor monitors the moisture level of the clothes and sends a signal to the control panel when the clothes are dry. If the humidity sensor is not working properly, it may erroneously signal that the clothes are still damp, causing the dryer to keep running even though the clothes are dry. However, this rarely happens. Before replacing the humidity sensor, check for increasingly broken parts. If you have determined that all other components are working correctly, then replace the humidity sensor.
Cause 8 Cycle thermostat
Cycle thermostat cycles the heating on and off to regulate the air temperature. If the thermostat is defective, the dryer will not heat up. However, this is rare. Before replacing the thermostat, check the increasingly broken parts. If you have determined that all other components are working correctly, then check the thermostat with a multimeter for continuity and if it is broken, then replace it.
Cause 9 High limit thermostat
The high limit thermostat controls the temperature of the dryer and turns off the burner if the dryer overheats. If the high limit thermostat is faulty, it may turn off the burner even if the dryer is not overheating. However, this is rare. Before replacing the high limit thermostat, check for increasingly broken parts. If you have determined that all other components are working properly, then check the thermostat with a multimeter for continuity and if it is broken, then replace it.
Cause 10 Thermistor
If the dryer does not stop, the thermistor may be defective. Some dryer models have a thermistor that is used to control the temperature of the dryer and turn the heat on and off. If the thermistor is defective, it is possible that it can turn off the heat too soon, significantly prolonging the drying time. However, this is rare.
Cause 11 Timer
Mechanical timers have a clock-like winding mechanism that rotates the timer down to the off position on the control panel. If the clock is not running on the timer, it will not turn off at the end of the drying cycle and the dryer will continue to work.

The Depstech 86T-5M is an excellent value-for-money endoscope which – as long you’re not hoping to connect to an iPhone – provides a solution more than adequate for occasional DIY needs, or retrieving lost items from tricky spots. We liked the simple lighting control and were impressed with the usefulness of the adapters. If we were being picky, the magnet is tricky to use – but ferrous metals need some volume; it’s hard to blame physics. Remembering this costs little more than a good delivery pizza and is impressive; adding the fun of creative uses through the webcam connection and it seems like a bargain.

Why you can trust Digital Camera World
Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out how we test.
The best borescopes, endoscopes or inspection cameras – call them what you will – have moved from being a rare curiosity to a tool most DIY enthusiasts, not to mention serious mechanics or plumbers, don’t like to go without. The ability to look inside machines, or under floorboards, without having to undertake a huge amount of demolition first is difficult to overstate.
Depstech, and their competitors, sell devices in three broad categories – wireless, wired, and all-in-one. The later is a complete tool for professional work, while both wired and wireless tend to offer a much cheaper entry point (you’ll provide the screen with your phone or other device).
The wired option connects to a computer (or USB-friendly phone) much like a webcam which also means it can be a creative tool, allowing you to record, or even live broadcast directly from a tiny camera on a probe. Perhaps you’re doing a live vlog about living inside your Lego city?
Whatever the case, the USB endoscope is a flexible device (literally and metaphorically). The model we’re reviewing here, the Depstech 86T-5MP is one of a series (86T) – slightly smaller diameter probes are an option with lower resolution cameras.

Depstech 86T-5M features
With a camera at one end and the USB connector at the other, and a semi-rigid cable this is a pretty bare-bones device. The 5-megapixel image sensor is surrounded by six LEDs and a thumb wheel on a nub about the size of a thumb stick adjusts the illumination.
In terms of accessories, Depstech have provided enough USB adapters to connect to any Android phone – but they’ve not seen fit to license Apple’s Lighting port so this is definitely not a tool for iPhone users (MacOS, on the other hand, will have no trouble identifying the camera like any other, and you can capture stills and video using Photo Booth).
At the business end of the device, the lens can be augmented with one of three accessories; a hook, a magnet, or a mirror which directs the view to the side.

Depstech 86T-5M build and handling
Tweaking the lighting with the thumb wheel requires a very gentle touch, but there is enough resistance for it to operate and we were pleased to use an ‘analog’ device to set brightness rather than limited steps.
The probe end is made of metal, with the different attachments screwing on in place of the standard collar which serves to protect the lens and screw thread. This proved reasonably painless; the most problematic aspect was removing the film which protected the tiny mirror without scratching it.
Using the attachments is a bit of an issue in dark environments; the mirror reflects some of the light from the rim so lighting must be very low, while the magnet blocks a good chunk of the view and also reflects anything but the weakest light settings.

Depstech 86T-5M performance
If your only experience with similar endoscopes has been via wi-fi devices, then the unarguable reliability of a wired connection will impress here. The videos we recorded were at 30fps, and looked it, but the camera was still able to detect color and detail without any issues (though it is a stretch to call the video five megapixels – Photo Booth recorded 1620 x 1080).
Having the semi-rigid flex heading straight into your computer or phone can put a lot of pressure on the connection (or just flip a handset right over), which is something you’ll need to bear in mind, especially if using adapters at the USB end. It is a strong flex, and responds to being bent into shape as you’d hope.

Depstech 86T-5M verdict
The Depstech 86T-5M solves the image reliability issue we’d had with wireless endoscopes without making us dig any deeper into our pockets – it even seems to have the same camera probe as the one we’ve seen on the Depstech WF028-5M though not the jaunty yellow flex. At the same time all the accessories we could imagine are included, including a side mirror which might not make up for not having a dual-lens device like the Depstech DS500 but is definitely a good economy alternative.
We didn’t like the fact that this device wouldn’t befriend Apple phones, though that is down in large part to the fruity firm’s resistance to the otherwise all-conquering USB-C connector. We did, however, enjoy using a MacBook with the camera and couldn’t help but be enthused by the creative possibilities, as well as the DIY ones.

Depstech DS500 review | Digital Camera World
Digital Camera World Verdict
While the DS500 is a deeper dip into the pocket than strictly necessary for occasional tasks, it also takes inspection in its stride in a way other solutions just don’t. The solidly built handset, not to mention the all-important probe’s dual-lens camera, all backed up with the ability to record mean you’ll not need to replace this tool for a long while. As a bonus the accessories are great and the built-in torch is genuinely useful (and has a super-cool trigger switch).

Why you can trust Digital Camera World
Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out how we test.
An endoscope can help to accelerating many DIY and professional tasks, and in many cases save time and money by circumventing the removal of floorboards or, for automotive enthusiasts, the lifting out of half an engine just to get a closer look at a concealed component. Aside from medical, there are three broad categories of endoscope (or ‘inspection camera’ if you prefer): USB and wireless – both of which borrow a phone screen – and all-in-one video devices like the Depstech DS500.
Depstech caters for all these categories, and also offer a variety of different camera probes for the end of the semi-rigid flex; the DS500 includes a dual camera design, which not only features a forward-pointing camera, but a second looking out to one side (yet it manages this with a slightly narrower probe than the wireless WF028).

Depstech DS500 at Amazon for $129.99
Depstech DS500 features
The DS500 is a solidly built inspection camera built around its 5-inch IPS screen, presumably a component which might find its way into a cellular phone, although it is not a touch screen; all operation is via the six buttons beneath (and power button at the top). Key operations include switching between the two cameras on the probe, both which can return a 1080P signal, rotating the image by 180˚, and choosing from the three brightness settings for the lights built into the probe. The main body also has a handy built in LED flashlight operated by a firm trigger-like switch.
The system houses a 5000 mAh battery, charged via a USB-C connector, which provides a generous seven hours of power for the screen and removable probe cable. For those who want to capture what they see, the device can capture video and pictures to a TF (microSD) card.
Depstech DS500 build and handling
The DS500 makes a good first impression, not least because it arrives in a good quality zipped hard case. Open it up and you’ll find the main unit opposite a welcome guide and, underneath a padded flap, the flex and accessories. Attaching the camera cable is via a screwed 5-pin socket on the back, while a 32GB TF card is already in the socket next to the charging port (though both, and a recessed reset button, are safely hidden beneath a rubber seal). The weight is a reassuring 438g (about a pound), rising to 622g with the flex attached; in no way too heavy to use and the plastic feels firm if not luxurious.
Pressing the backlit rubber buttons requires a firm press; and a menu can be invoked which is operated using the same keys which control the probe brightness in normal operation. Once you’ve set a language and date-and-time here for your recording’s metadata there isn’t a lot more to do.
Operating the probe is much the same as other endoscopes in terms of pushing the semi-rigid flex down a hole, with the exception that a long-press of the image rotation button (top left of the cluster) switches lenses. The side lens has only one LED to illuminate its view.
Depstech DS500 performance
The device powers up quickly, with only a brief flash of the ‘Depstech’ logo before you’re looking through the camera and able to work. General operation is easier to manage than some, and the menu isn’t challenging either. Image quality is good, especially from the front camera, though we’d argue that despite Desptech’s claim, the image isn’t sharp much beyond a meter (3ft) – but that’s still far better than most. There is, of course, noise and grain, especially in the darker areas, but nothing to complain about.
That said, the system isn’t without its quirks. The saved video is 720p at 25.34fps – more than fast enough to review but not the 30fps many would expect. Photos are saved at 1920 x 1088 pixels (assuming you choose the higher resolution), which is as much resolution as you need in the points of sharpest focus and illumination (inevitably the light is brighter near the probe).
While it was useful that an icon appears indicating when you’ve selected the side camera, we did find it a little odd that there was no choice of brightness.
This image shows the inside of a hand-crafted clothing model (the inset shows the probe in use) (Image credit: Adam Juniper)
This is a sample of video from the Depstech DS500. In the clip you can see a few changes of brightness
Depstech DS500 verdict
The DS500 is a fine tool, more than capable of performing its duties even in a rough and tumble environment. The build is confidence inspiring, always appreciated in the kind of environment where serious work is being done, and we really appreciated the case and addition of magnet as well as standard hook – you’ll never lose a screw again.
Our main complaint is that the 180˚ image rotation and camera swap functions are performed by the same button, the latter requiring a long (3 sec) press; these are both core functions and it’s a real shame it isn’t easier to swap lenses. We’d also like to see a choice of frame rates for the video, but this is not a device meant to compete in the cinema so it’s not essential.
Since neither complaint really prevents the tool from performing its duties, we have no problem recommending the DS500 as an addition to any serious pro or enthusiast’s tool shelf.

K&F Dual Lens Endoscopy Camera, HD 1080P Borescope, 5.
5mm Endoscopy Snake Camera with Metal Cable and 4.3″ IPS Hard Screen, 8 LED Lights, 32G Plumbing Camera, Gadgets for Men
Why choose the leading IPS hard screens?
Our dual chamber borescopes use advanced LCD panel technology. A hard IPS screen is not only “tougher” but also has better picture quality.
1. Fast response speed: liquid crystal molecular arrangement difference, the IPS screen also changes the two vertical electrodes of the soft screen to a horizontal arrangement, which accelerates the liquid crystal molecular deflection speed, thus improving the screen response speed. The longstanding problem of LCD smearing is solved, moving images are clear and smooth. The viewing angle of the IPS hard screen can reach 178 degrees. 2. Wide viewing angle: This means that there is no obvious difference in the color and clarity of the picture regardless of whether you view it from the front or from the side. 3.The Colors Are More Realistic: IPS hard screens are purer than soft screens when displaying pure black images, and the images show rich layers and high contrast. The IPS screen can provide clearer black scene images through smooth grayscale levels. 4.The Screen Is Firmer: Due to the unique horizontal molecular structure of the IPS hard screen, it has no water streaks, shadows and flashes when touched. The screen quality is extremely stable, and the lifespan will be improved compared to soft screen. The 50,000 hours of the screen has increased to more than 70,000 hours. 5.Environmental Protection And Power Saving: The IPS hard screen reduces the thickness of the liquid crystal layer and changes the light transmittance of the liquid crystal screen. The reduction of the backlight source power achieves the effect of energy saving and environmental protection.

Overview of the original covers for the Samsung Galaxy S23 line
The S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra models have received an official series of protective accessories. It includes transparent, shockproof, leather and other covers, as well as screen films.
All of them, like the smartphones themselves, are developed by Samsung. So from each accessory you can safely expect full compliance with the dimensions, shape, and other parameters of the model for which it was made. Some of the new products are already available in our store, the rest will soon go on sale.
So, what does the Korean tech giant have to offer for their fresh devices and what kind of protective accessory is right for you? Let’s figure it out.
Clear Case: transparent, minimalistic
Samsung Clear Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
The Clear Case bumper is made of completely transparent plastic, so it does not hide the appearance of the device underneath. Many cases of this kind turn yellow over time. But Samsung claims that the material used by the company is more resistant to such changes. But fingerprints on glossy plastic will definitely be visible.
Thanks to its thin walls, the case hardly adds to the size of the smartphone, so it does not interfere with its use. Although Clear Case is able to protect the device from dirt and scratches, it is unlikely to be useful in case of strong impacts. In the event of a fall from a great height, the hard plastic is likely to shatter and not help your device much.

Advantages:
does not hide the design of the smartphone
thin and light
is the cheapest in the
series
Weaknesses:
weak impact protection
collects fingerprints
Clear Gadget Case: clear with holder
Samsung Clear Gadget Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
In terms of design, dimensions and materials, this case is almost identical to the previous one. Transparent hard plastic without texture, the shape and location of the cutouts, the thickness of the walls – everything looks exactly the same as the Clear Case.
The only difference between the Clear Gadget Case comes from its name. On the back of the bumper is a mechanism to which you can attach a miniature gadget – a movable ring. It is included in the package and helps to hold the smartphone more securely in your hand: for this you just need to put your fingers through it. And the ring can also be used as a stand to fix the device on the table. What is convenient, it allows you to easily adjust the angle of inclination.
On the other hand, the ring prevents the smartphone from lying on a flat surface, as well as powering the battery from wireless charging. For these purposes, it has to be removed. When the ring is not in use, the mechanism to which it is attached can be covered with a special cover.
Advantages:
does not hide the design of the smartphone
thin and light
complete with detachable holder-stand
Weaknesses:
weak impact protection
collects fingerprints
Silicone Case: stylish, minimalist
Samsung Silicone Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
Silicone Case is an overlay made of opaque silicone that blends well with the design of the device. The accessory is available in blue, cream, lavender and green, just like the S23 line of smartphones. If you choose an overlay of the same color as your device, it will look like a natural extension of it. There is also an orange version with which you can achieve an interesting contrast.
The cover is not only pleasing to the eye, but also comfortable to use. The material is thin, light and pleasant to the touch. It does not slip in the hands and does not collect fingerprints. The microfiber lining on the inside of the Silicone Case prevents damage to the device when removing and putting on the case.
Elastic silicone has shock-absorbing properties, so it is able to absorb shock to some extent. It will also protect against scratches and scuffs. True, with inaccurate use, the case itself can quickly become covered with dirt and traces of damage.
View accessories for Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus
Advantages:
perfectly harmonizes with the design of the smartphone
available in several colors
thin and light
softens blows
Flaws:
loses its appearance after damage
light cover options get dirty easily
Silicone Grip Case: stylish with strap
Samsung Silicone Grip Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
This case is a modified version of the Silicone Case. It is made of the same smooth, pleasant to the touch silicone with all its pluses and minuses.
The main feature of the Silicone Grip Case is the detachable strap for a more secure grip. It is firmly attached to the back cover of the bumper and, pressing the device to the fingers, does not allow it to fall out of the hand. And you can adjust the tension of the strap.
At the same time, the case is not available in as many colors as the Silicone Case. You can choose from just two options: dark gray and white.
Benefits:
complete with detachable strap holder
thin and light
softens blows
Flaws:
loses its appearance after damage
white cover easily gets dirty
Frame Case: two designs in one accessory
Samsung Frame Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
Frame Case stands out from other bumpers with its modular design. We can say that when you buy it, you get two covers instead of one. The box contains a frame and a pair of back panels, which you can easily alternate with each other according to your mood.
The frame is made of transparent plastic and, apart from the holes for the ports, completely covers the sides of the smartphone. The material can protect them from scratches, scuffs, and dirt, but won’t help much against drops and bumps. The panels are easily inserted into the frame, but for this it must first be removed from the device.
One of the panels is transparent. When using it, the case resembles the Clear Case, Samsung’s other transparent bumper, which we talked about above. With this panel Frame Case is just as easily soiled and tough. But it differs with protrusions on the back, which better protect the rear cameras.
The second panel is covered with a material similar to thin synthetic leather and can be black or white. It is not so easily soiled, but the most important thing is that it has a pocket for a credit card. True, because of him, this panel is too thick for normal wireless charging.
View accessories for Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Advantages:
comes with two back panels
transparent panel does not hide the design of the smartphone
on the color panel there is a pocket for credit cards
Weaknesses:
weak impact protection
transparent panel covered with fingerprints
color bar interferes with wireless charging
S-View Wallet Case: Flip case
Samsung S-View Wallet Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
Unlike other official cases for the Galaxy S23 line, which are bumpers , this one is made in the format of a book cover. S-View Wallet Case is made of plastic and polyurethane and is available in almost all of the line’s signature colors: green, lavender and cream. Instead of blue, a black version is sold.
Thanks to the flip cover, the case not only protects the back and sides of the smartphone, but also the display. This is the undeniable advantage of the format. The material feels durable and will certainly prove useful in the event of bumps and falls. Of course, it is also able to protect against other types of damage and dirt typical of smartphones.
On the inside of the lid there is a pocket for cards or bills. It holds several credit cards. But if you put more than one, the cover will not be able to close tightly.
A hole in the lid deserves special attention, which leaves a small fragment of the display exposed. With this window, the user can find out the time, follow notifications and even answer calls without opening the case.
Benefits:
comprehensively protects your smartphone
available in several colors
equipped with credit card pocket
softens blows
Disadvantages:
cover makes it difficult to use the smartphone with one hand
filled pocket prevents the cover from closing
Rugged Gad get Case is not particularly elegant . Embossed black ends, protruding corners and a gray base with a polygonal structure give the device a sporty, even brutal appearance. Thick case walls increase the size of the device, which can reduce usability, and prevent the smartphone from charging wirelessly.
But the Rugged Gadget Case can safely be considered the most durable case on this list. The accessory has been certified according to the military standard MIL-STD-810. In other words, he successfully passed a series of tests for resistance to various types of damage. Including – survived a fall from a height of one and a half meters.
In addition, the case is equipped with a secure mount, with which you can attach one of two gadgets to its back wall. The first is a mini container for storing credit cards. The second is a ring with the functions of a holder and a table stand. Both devices are sold with the Rugged Gadget Case and significantly expand the functionality of the bumper.
But that’s not all: one of the corners of the case has a hole through which, for example, a strap or carabiner can be threaded.
Benefits:
the strongest case in the
series
comes with removable credit card holder
complete with detachable holder-stand
covered with anti-slip texture
scratch and scuff resistant
Weaknesses:
heavy and thick
has a specific appearance
interferes with wireless charging
Leather Case: genuine leather
Samsung Leather Case for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
Leather Case achieves this effect due to high-quality genuine leather, which covers the outer surface of the case. Available in three color versions: black, brown and green. All of them not only look great, but also feel very nice in the hands.
At the same time, the bumper is thin and does not contain any of the rough seams characteristic of many leather products – the manufacturer has done a very neat job. It is difficult to say how much the case is able to withstand a blow. But dirt is definitely not a problem for him: the material is easily cleaned. The Leather Case will also protect against scratches and scuffs, but it itself may become covered with traces of damage. Although small flaws do not harm the skin, they only give it character.
Benefits:
has a premium look
available in several colors
has a pleasant tactile sensation
thin and light
Drawbacks:
the most expensive case in the
series
Samsung film set
Samsung screen protector set for Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
Cases are cases, but a good screen protector will not damage your smartphone either. Therefore, Samsung simply could not help but release such an accessory for the Galaxy S23 line. For each model, the company offers an official set of two high-quality films.
All of them fit the dimensions of the screens exactly and are characterized by a high level of transparency, scratch resistance and an oleophobic layer. In addition, the films do not in any way reduce the responsiveness of the screen and do not interfere with the operation of the fingerprint scanner. In the kit you will find everything you need for sticking with your own hands, including napkins and a special frame.
Based on reviews on the Samsung website, some customers are experiencing horizontal creases on transparencies. But, most likely, it’s the wrong sticking. So follow the instructions exactly.
Advantages:
scratch resistant
minimize the number of prints
complete with adhesive tools
Disadvantages:
can be folded into stripes in some cases
Conclusion: which accessory to choose
If everything is clear with the film – Samsung only releases one kit for the S23 line – then choosing an official case is not so easy.
Want a transparent accessory that won’t obscure the beauty of your device? Then take a look at the inexpensive and simple Clear Case or the Clear Gadget Case with stand holder.
If you’re looking for a stylish case above all, choose the minimalistic Silicone Case, equipped with a Silicone Grip Case or Leather Case – the most expensive, but made of genuine leather.
Are you looking for the strongest and most reliable case? Then the best option is the shockproof Rugged Gadget Case. In addition, you can attach a holder-stand and a container for credit cards to it.
If instead of a bumper you want a flip case with the ability to close the screen, take a closer look at the S-View Wallet Case. He, plus everything, also allows you to store credit cards.
Lovers of variety should pay attention to the Frame Case, which allows you to alternate transparent and colored back panels. He definitely won’t get bored.

The mirror attachment for side view and the magnet attachment has retrieved a nut (Image credit: Adam Juniper)

This is a sample video clip with the mirror probe attachment from the Depstech 86T-5M

I believe in a happy medium, somewhere between too little and too much. Aristotle defended this view with his Golden Mean, the middle ground between excess and deficiency. Apply it to the pleasures of life, to your emotions, to your decision-making, and it makes practical sense. Even digital photography follows Aristotle’s wisdom.
I recently found myself selling a Leica Q2 in favor of its inspiration, the Leica M. Having begun snapping photos in the film era, and having experienced the ineffable finesse of prints from a film Leica CM I owned years ago, I immediately revered my pre-owned M10. Gradients overlapped like silk sheets, and colors came out rich yet unsaturated. It reminded me of film.
Its images were rendered so softly, so smoothly, and yet full of character and detail that I disregarded Aristotle and wanted more. Such an ethereal quality can hardly be amplified, though.

More detail, more information, more cropping power: I sought more resolution than a 24-megapixel sensor could provide. Expecting the same M10 look, yet augmented by an additional 16-megapixels, I further eroded my credit limit and purchased a pre-owned M10-R.
It took a few days of shooting the M10-R, and analyzing the photos in editing, to recognize a departure from the M10 look. I found incredible detail and cropping power in the R images, but the smoothness had been replaced by what some call the “clinical” look. The photos looked too precise, too real. The subtleties were gone, as was the M10 I hastily sold to fund my plunge into high resolution.
Revisiting my M10 shots, I felt that warm, fuzzy feeling again. Smoothness soothed me like nectar (or something stronger). In a panic, I consulted a photographer friend and mentor who is also a Leica Akademie instructor. He explained what I was seeing, and why.
“Crunchy detail,” he wrote me in an email. “The images come out nice and crisp, the additional resolution giving more definition to the edges and potentially more ‘pop’ to the image — at the expense of smoothness, though. What I have described here is a common theme these days, when pixel density is sky-high.”

By trading the M10 for more resolution, I had scrapped the Golden Mean. In another panic, I canceled the sale of my M10, had it returned to sender, posted the M10-R for sale, and became a 24-megapixel black sheep.
Everyone’s photographic ambitions differ. Some like pixel peeping, some make fine art, and some hardly take the time to sort and edit the endless shots our memory cards can hold. My purpose for making photos, besides the pleasure of working with a legendary manual camera and seeing the world through a viewfinder, is to publish them alongside my printed words in magazines. If you were to believe a previous PetaPixel opinion piece on 24-megapixels and obsolescence, for this particular pursuit I should be fine relying on an M10’s resolution. I disagree, however, with the author’s call for joining the high-resolution arms race.
The Akademie instructor examined the issue differently: “The conversation isn’t about what people are losing by going to 40-plus-megapixels, only about what they’re gaining.”
With high resolution, photography gains that clinical look — hyperrealism, the opposite of natural — and more noise due to the smaller, denser pixels. But we pariahs consider these gains a loss. For purist M shooters, high-resolution also subtracts some of that legacy “Leica look.” Images that appear excessively digital do not remind us of film, the muse of the M series.

Photography, and all art, remains absolutely subjective. Most people today enjoy the highly digitized look, saturated with detail and color. They like shooting and editing such images, testing the limits of camera technology, and that’s great. But with the proliferation of high-resolution cameras today, and their approachability in terms of price and simplicity of use, it becomes important to ask where the boundaries lie, and whether we’re moving too far from the Golden Mean.
I put this question to a seasoned Leica store employee, who answered rhetorically.
“We’re getting more resolution out of our cameras, but do we need it?”
Street and landscape photographers aside, most of us don’t crop heavily. Few amateur photographers print their work these days, she noted, let alone make prints beyond 20-by-30 inches. A few years ago, however, the Bellevue Leica Store gallery presented a show that featured a 34-by-54-inch print made from a 24-megapixel camera.

I asked her about a pivot back to 24-megapixels one day, and she said it’s already happening. Leica’s new SL2-S, released in December 2020, uses a state-of-the-art backlit CMOS sensor with 24-megapixels of resolution. It outsells the SL2. Even the new M11, released in January 2022, nods toward the benefits of lower resolution by offering a pixel-shift sensor capable of registering images with 60, 38, or 18-megapixels.
“I see the bell curve flattening,” she told me. “It’s the rule of diminishing returns.”
60-megapixels make sense for genres like architecture or intricate landscapes as well as for those who need to do any kind of intense cropping, but portraitists dread such detail in their subjects’ faces. Such high-resolution images also generate massive files which can slow down a camera, quickly fill a hard drive, and freeze up a computer.

Ultimately, though, she posed the essential, defining question that should determine which sensor you choose: “What do you want your images to look like?”
Another professional I consulted, a longtime employee at a major California camera shop, explained how in the past two or three years, high-resolution has jumped from the high-end cameras into the mid-range price points. This democratization is good for the industry, he said. But he also expressed concerns that marketing makes consumers feel like they always need what’s new, the latest, even though they might not require so much firepower in a sensor.
“A Nikon Z6 (24-megapixels) isn’t as sophisticated as a Z7 or a Z9,” he said. “Those have more megapixels, therefore, you think that more megapixels are ultimately better. So, if you’ve got a Nikon Z6, you think, ‘Well, this does the job, but the Z7 (45.7-megapixels) is obviously better.’”
He continued by naming a few cameras in the 24-megapixel range that stand out, despite their “low” resolution. Fuji’s XP-4 and Ricoh’s GR cameras, for example, render film-like images — maybe not when pixel peeping, but definitely when printed, he said. Granted, those are not full-frame sensors, but they still fall short of full-frame 40-plus-megapixels.
An M10 shot edited in Photoshop. Photo by Daniel O’Neil
Another category of cameras has become popular with all kinds of photographers today, he noted. Backlitsensors, as found in the Sony Alpha 7S and the Leica SL2-S, create something like night vision.
“They see things your eyes can’t see, like in the night sky at Joshua Tree, or in a music venue or bar. It’s really magical,” he said.
Of course, he then mentioned how the new Leica M11 can do this too with its backlit sensor, but also allows for triple resolution and renders a smooth, film-like quality. This means, if only I could afford it, I could have something like my desired M10 look at 18-megapixels, the manageable file size of 36-megapixels, and the cropping ability of 60-megapixels, all in one camera, depending on my needs. What would Aristotle make of such a spread? Maybe such all-encompassing technology finally respects the Golden Mean.

How Much Resolution Do You Really Need?
The spec sheets on today’s flagship digital cameras are impressive to say the least. Nikon offers 36, Sony 42, and Canon’s 5DS a staggering 51 megapixels. And that’s just right now, and that’s not touching the likes of Hasselblad and Phase One 100MP offerings. Ever since digital cameras began to supplant film as the industry standard, resolution has been the headline feature of every camera along the way.
The trend of packing more and more pixels onto our image sensors doesn’t seem to be slowing down, as every year we marvel at the newest staggering megapixel number, only to see that number surpassed mere months later. However, in this relentless contest for king of the resolution mountain, it seems rare that we stop and ask the question: how much resolution do we actually NEED?
Naturally, the answer to this question will be a personal one and dependent on a number of factors, but there are a few constants that can help you as a photographer, to answer it for yourself. For example, we have standards in place to describe the abilities of the human eye, and unless your intended audience is a nest of bald eagles, these guidelines can suggest the point of diminishing returns, resolution-wise.
What is Camera Resolution?
First, it’s important to understand what we’re talking about when we describe the resolution of a photo. Resolution is essentially the ability of the human eye, camera sensor, printer, or screen to differentiate between two points. To calculate this ability, you need two key pieces of information: the distance between the two points, and the relative viewing distance from those points. Imagine that you’ve lit two candles, placed them 1 foot apart, and drove a mile away from them. At this distance, you would most likely be unable to tell if you were looking at one candle or two. In order to see that there are, in fact, two candles, you would need to move them further apart, or get closer to them.
This relationship between size and distance can be described as an angle, in degrees or arcminutes, where 1 degree = 60 arcminutes. For reference, the size of the full moon when viewed from earth is about 1/2 degree or 30 arcminutes. This is a necessary basis element to understand.
Resolution of The Human Eye
I hear you asking, nay, begging the question: what is the resolution of the human eye?
20/20 vision is described as being 1 arcminute. This equates to a factor of 1/3438. Using the candle example again, this means that someone with 20/20 vision would be able to begin to differentiate the candles, 1 foot apart, from 3,438 feet away, or 0.65 mile. Of course, most adults have worse than 20/20 vision, and some have better than 20/20, but as this is the standard for fighter pilots, let’s use it as a basis for our measure of what we “need” in a photo.
However, we don’t generally look at photos from over half a mile away, so this number still doesn’t get to the heart of the matter. Let’s convert this to a more applicable scale. To determine the resolution of the human eye at a distance of 12 inches, we would divide 12 by 3438, and we get about 0.0035 inch. 1/0.0035 = approx. 286 ppi (points/pixels per inch). Finally we’ve gotten back to a measurement that photographers are used to. So, if we slightly exceed this number, 286, up to a nice round 300 ppi, people with 20/20 vision will no longer be able to see individual pixels, and your photo will look smooth and sharp, from a distance of 12 inches.
Best Resolution for Print Size
This benchmark of 300 ppi still doesn’t quite bring us to the resolution we need, as ppi only describes pixel density, and is therefore only part of the equation. In order to determine the ideal resolution of an image at 300 ppi, you still need the finished size of the image. Or, to work backwards, using the resolution of your camera, you can determine the maximum print size at this magical pixel density.

If you’re shooting any of these high-megapixel cameras and printing your photos at smaller sizes than those listed above, you’re theoretically wasting resolution, as the camera is capturing more detail than the human eye can see. Of course, it’s often useful to be able to crop into these large files and retain detail and image quality, and it’s always better to have too much resolution than not enough. If you already know the final size at which a particular image will be printed, you can easily determine the minimum resolution you’ll need by multiplying the dimensions (in inches) by 300.
Viewing Distance Matters with Resolution
We’re almost there, but this still only tells part of the story. As we remember from everyone’s favorite candle allegory, we still need to factor in the distance from which your print will be viewed. The magical 300 ppi pixel density is calculated based on a viewing distance of 12 inches. If you hold your hand 12 inches from your face, you’ll see that this feels incredibly close, and holding it any closer begins to feel downright uncomfortable.
This brings up another aspect of human eyesight, that our eyes can only actually resolve fine details to their full ability in the central area of our field of vision, an area of our eyeballs known as the fovea, which contains the greatest concentration of cone cells. This area takes up only 1% of the retina, or roughly 2 degrees. Take a moment to look at the keyboard of your computer, and then try to read the words on the screen with your peripheral vision. You can’t do it, right? This means that even if we’re looking at a small printed picture, say 4” x 6”, 12 inches from our face, we can’t actually resolve all of the detail at the same time. So, trying to look at a 24” x 16” print from 12 inches away is illogical.
If, instead of the 1 foot viewing distance, we stand 3 feet away, suddenly we only need a 100 ppi pixel density to meet the standards of 20/20 vision, and the 36mp file from your D810 can be printed at about 73” x 49”. You may have begun to see where I’m going with this. As print sizes increase, you need more pixels, but you’ll also most likely be viewing these larger prints from a further distance, so you don’t need as much pixel density, so you actually don’t need as many pixels. Essentially, we end up back at the measure of resolution as an angle. If a photo takes up 10 degrees of our field of view, whether it’s a 4” x 6” at 1 foot or a 20” x 30” at 5 feet, our eyes will be able to resolve the same amount of detail.
Often, when speaking about high megapixel cameras, I hear the comment that you would only need ‘so much’ resolution if you were blowing your photos up to billboard size. In reality, billboards are viewed from so far away that the pixel density can be greatly reduced without anyone noticing. If the closest you’ll be able to get to a billboard is 30 feet, the image could be printed at 10 ppi, and your eyes wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. At 10 ppi, you could blow a 12mp iPhone image up to 38 ft. x 21 ft. without the image appearing pixelated. Or, to think about it in another way, the next time you see a billboard, from a reasonable distance, hold your phone in front of it, about a foot from your face, and you’ll see that your phone screen will probably hide the entire billboard from your view. That tells us that your eyes are able to resolve the same amount of detail in your phone screen as in that massive billboard.
Resolution for On-Screen Displays
If you don’t intend to print your work, and online publication is the final destination of your image, then your resolution needs are even less demanding. HD and UHD displays look incredibly smooth from recommended viewing distances, but the actual resolution in megapixels isn’t actually particularly high.

Without zooming, these are the resolution limits of these various displays. When viewing an image at full size with pixel dimensions exceeding those of your display, your graphics card will simply discard the superfluous information. Again, much of the resolution of your image will be wasted, and your 51 megapixel image will only serve to impress the pixel-peepers.
Resolution of Camera Lenses
But wait, there’s more. Your camera sensor will only be able to capture as much detail as your lens can resolve. The resolution capabilities of a lens are more difficult to quantify, as this step of the image-making process is still analogue. DxoMark has developed a measurement of this ability called “perceptual megapixels” which measures the effective resolution of a camera/lens combination. This P-Mpix score is listed as a single number, but we also know that most lenses have an optical sweet spot in the middle, and lose some sharpness towards the edges of the frame, so it’s still difficult to determine how those perceptual megapixels are distributed across an image. Still, this score is helpful when comparing lenses, and once we know the final print size and pixel dimensions we need, we can use these scores to determine whether a given camera and lens combination will deliver the detail we need.
A bad lens can easily turn a high megapixel camera into a low megapixel camera. For example, according to DxoMark, the mighty, 36mp Nikon D810 can resolve only 10mp when fitted with a $300 Nikkor 28-200 f/3.5-5.6G. So, while the full potential of your camera’s sensor may be overkill for your final prints, it’s difficult to deliver that level of detail to your camera’s sensor, and a low quality lens can quickly handcuff it’s performance.
In Conclusion
I could have saved myself a lot of work by titling this article “It’s better to have too much resolution than not enough” and leaving it at that. The truth is that the digital cameras being produced today are incredibly good, and the effective difference between 24 and 51 megapixels is usually, in practice, imperceivable, unless of course you crop or zoom in to where you can only see a small fraction of the full picture.
The bottom line is this: unless you’re making large prints from your photos, and displaying those prints somewhere that they will be carefully examined, such as an art gallery, much of the resolution of your camera will most likely be wasted most of the time. Does this mean that you should sell your DSLR kit and shoot everything with your 12mp iPhone camera? Of course not, because, first of all, it’s better to have too much resolution than not enough, and also, image quality is dependent on more than just the ability to render fine details. It’s also important to take into account a camera’s dynamic range, bit depth, high ISO capabilities, and other characteristics that may be more difficult to quantify than resolution.
Buying a camera is a personal choice, dependent on a variety of factors, preferences and needs. Resolution is often the highlight feature pushed by camera manufacturers, but should clearly not be the sole consideration of photographers. When comparing cameras, consider how your photos will be displayed, decide on the minimum number of megapixels you’ll need, and move on to other features and abilities.
24-megapixel OmniVision camera for Android smartphones of the future
Premium smartphone cameras are already great, and it’s hard to imagine that they will get even better. With phones like the controversial Galaxy S5 and HTC One, you get shots that show every little detail. In addition, they can be edited and focus adjusted after shooting. The main and front cameras can be used at the same time. It became a reality and ceased to amaze. But the future brings with it a 24-megapixel OmniVision camera for a new generation of Android phones, which it makes sense to talk about in more detail.
Business Insider reports that OmniVision, supplier of camera components for Motorola’s first Moto X and Google’s Project Tango 3D smartphone, has unveiled a 23.8-megapixel camera sensor for smartphones. It is capable of shooting photos at 24 frames per second and video at 60 frames per second.
No camera sensor for Android phones has a higher resolution today. We are talking about shooting with an aspect ratio of 4:3.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 16-megapixel camera, while the LG G3 has a 13-megapixel camera. The only smartphone with a camera performance that comes close to that of the new OmniVision sensor is the Sony Xperia Z3 with its 21-megapixel camera. Nokia makes Windows Phones with 41-megapixel cameras, but no such Android smartphones currently exist.
In theory, all this means that phones with new OmniVision sensors will allow you to shoot cleaner and sharper, with better detail than the smartphones that are presented today. Since the new OmniVision sensor has more megapixels, it will be able to capture more light when shooting, resulting in better image quality.
On the other hand, “megapixel” is just one of the factors affecting the quality of shooting, but far from the only one. TechCrunch Lead Editor Matthew Panzarino provided a vivid comparison to illustrate the role that “megapixel” plays:
Imagine a thimble placed under the rain to collect water. The larger your thimble, the easier it will be to collect more drops in a shorter amount of time.
In this case, the thimble reflects megapixels, and the water in this example is analogous to the light that the camera sensor collects. Increased “megapixel” only helps to make the picture better. This is a possibility, not a complete certainty of the result. In order for the picture to meet expectations, other camera characteristics must also be high.
Phone Arena adds more technical details, announcing that OmniVision has not only introduced a 23.8-megapixel sensor, but also a slightly less impressive 21.4-megapixel sensor. The new OmniVision sensors are based on PureCel-S technology, which combines high performance with the compact size that is so important for ultra-thin smartphones that are trending today.
The OV23850 sensor, like the new smartphone camera sensors from Sony, Samsung and Apple, supports phase-detection autofocus and captures 4K video at 30 frames per second. The 23.8-megapixel sensor has today’s standard size of 1/2.3 inches with a pixel size of 1.12 microns.
Will the new OmniVision sensors usher in a new era in mobile photography and videography?

that the smartphone camera takes fake photos? How It Works
It must be admitted that smartphones have made incredible strides in mobile photography in recent years. Almost any model will take a good photo during the day, and the flagships take great pictures even at night. And the main merit in this is not so much the advanced camera sensors with a large physical size and resolution up to 200 megapixels, but the artificial intelligence that processes the image. He, by the way, often misleads us, passing off wishful thinking. Let’s look at how the AI camera works, and also where the line is drawn between improving the picture and outright cheating with the replacement of objects in the frame.

How to take hidden photos with your smartphone using the Android camera features
Once you get a camera, your smartphone has become a universal tool for shooting. And its compactness in comparison with professional equipment works wonders. Changing just a couple of camera settings will allow you to covertly shoot on your phone, and I will talk about this today. But let me first remind you that the knowledge gained cannot be used to invade the personal space of other people, since such actions are regarded as a violation of privacy and are punished in accordance with Art. 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

How can I compress photos and videos without losing quality on my smartphone? Just need to change these camera settings Android
Videos and photos take up a lot of space on our smartphones. And for some people, such files make up more than 70% of the built-in storage. We have already talked about photo compression apps for Android, but this way to save space is not very rational, if only for the reason that you will have to reduce the file size after taking a picture or recording a video. Is it possible to solve the problem on the shore without downloading additional programs so that the footage immediately takes up less space?

Sony’s new 4K 24MP camera for vlogging
The ZV-E10 is more than just an a6100 without a viewfinder, it’s designed to make filming easy and high quality.
Video The ZV-E10 shoots 4K video at 24p and 30p. There is noticeable cropping in 30p mode (1.23x, like the a6100), but no cropping when shooting at 24p.
Unlike the a6100, the ZV-E10 supports Sony Cinema Picture Profiles, of which there are ten different options. These profiles allow you to create low-contrast images for publication evaluation. The camera also offers S-Log 2 and 3 as well as HLG capture. But keep in mind that this is an 8-bit, not a 10-bit camera.
The ZV-E10 also offers high-speed shooting capabilities up to 1080/120p for a 4x slow motion effect (with 1.14x crop).
Audio This camera is well-tuned to capture pleasing audio, whether you plan to connect an optional microphone or use the camera’s built-in microphone.
The multi interface shoe on the top left corner of the camera body supports digital audio. And Sony has several different microphone options that work with this patented connection, including the recently announced ECM-W2BT wireless microphones, plus a few more options.
In addition, the camera has a built-in directional 3-capsule microphone that provides pretty decent sound quality (when vlogging in selfie mode) for those who don’t want to buy additional accessories.
For connecting a third party microphone, the ZV-E10 also offers a 3.5mm jack in addition to a headphone jack for audio monitoring.
Image stabilization The ZV-E10 does not have sensor-shift image stabilization, but electronic jitter reduction is available and optical image stabilization is supported with Sony lenses with OSS. During video capture, users can choose between “Active” and “Standard” stabilization modes. The first, which is the default, uses digital image stabilization + optical image stabilization to smooth the image, but has a significant crop factor of 1. 44x.
The standard image stabilization mode just relies on optical stabilization (and is less effective), but also has no crop factor, which is useful if you’re trying to maintain a wide field of view for vlogging.
USB streaming and mobile connection The ZV-E10 can stream audio and video when connected to a Wi-Fi enabled device via USB-C. It supports UVC/UAC standards and can stream up to 720p depending on the device it is connected to. You can use the Sony Imaging Edge app, available for desktop and mobile devices, to set up a live stream, but the quality will be lower (576p).
Setting up a USB live stream from the camera is quite simple. On the first page of the second shooting menu, there is a USB Streaming option. Simply enable this option, connect the camera via USB-C to a smart device or computer, and open the streaming platform of your choice.
Speaking of Imaging Edge, you can use it to view and transfer movies and photos (including Raw) from your camera even when the camera is turned off. The ZV-E10 also stores metadata with vertical video clips.
Product Showcase Function The Product Showcase function was first introduced in the ZV-1 and is very convenient. When turned on, the camera automatically prioritizes nearby subjects over its face detection system, resulting in a smooth focus shift from the face to the product. This is an easy and effective way to create an effect while shooting.
Background Defocus Function By default, the C1 button on the top of the Sony ZV-E10 turns the Background Defocus function on and off. This feature, intended for beginners, simply opens the aperture fully when pressed. Unfortunately, in bright light, this often forces the camera to use a fast shutter speed to compensate, resulting in somewhat choppy, harsh footage. In addition, this function cannot be enabled during capture because the exposure will “jitter” when the button is pressed.
Soft skin effect Sony Soft Skin effect set to “high” looks a bit unnatural. Users can set the effect to low, medium or high. The bottom two settings do a pretty decent job of smoothing out the face without looking unnatural.
Available for both photo and video recording.
Autofocus The ZV-E10 uses the same outstanding autofocus system as Sony’s latest a6000 series siblings, with 425 PDAF points and 84% sensor coverage. It also offers the same highly reliable face and eye detection that Sony calls “real-time tracking”. Unlike most of Sony’s competitors, these features are well integrated into the AF user interface. For example, when the AF point you select overlaps with a human subject, face/eye detection is triggered automatically – it then automatically turns off when the AF point moves away from the person’s face.
Video AF For vlogging purposes, with the default “Wide” focus area and AF-C, the camera adjusts focus well and keeps human faces sharp; face and eye detection is enabled by default.

Zodiac Phone Case
Your phone, your sign, your style. Shop our Zodiac collection.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a new, beautiful and expensive phone that needs some extra protection. The large screen with rounded edges and the case itself were not strong enough and could not withstand a fall from a height of less than two meters. To protect such a fragile and expensive model, we recommend that you purchase a protective case for your phone and protect its body and large display from damage. Below we have provided a detailed review of cases for Samsung Galaxy S8, which can be purchased in our online store.
Fashion Case
One of the most popular and reliable types of protective covers for the phone are book covers. They are made of high quality eco-leather, they are dense and impact resistant. The phone is inserted into a silicone case inside the case and is securely fixed there. The case, like the cover itself, is made specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S8, which guarantees a perfect match in size and all cutouts for active slots and phone functions. Thanks to the magnetic clasp that holds the front cover tightly, the display is protected from damage even if you carry your phone in a bag or backpack. Flips are available in different color variations – both multi-colored with patterns, and more calm and classic colors. Buy cover with pattern Buy cover
Transparent silicone case DF
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a very beautiful phone, so many people want to protect it from damage without hiding its beautiful and sleek design behind cases. In order to protect your smartphone from scratches and show everyone that you have a Samsung Galaxy S8 in your hands, we recommend purchasing a transparent silicone bumper from DF. It will protect the phone from scratches, scuffs and chips and will remain invisible on the phone. Silicone bumper adds almost no additional volume and does not interfere with the use of the smartphone. All necessary cutouts are present, so you will not even pay attention to the fact that the phone has protection. Buy case
Mercury Goospery book cover
Mercury Goospery cases are popular and loved in the market. And this is not surprising! Beautiful texture and two-tone design make the case interesting and eye-catching. The phone is firmly fixed inside the case in a silicone case and does not fall out. Do you like watching videos on your phone? The book folds into a convenient stand for fixing the phone in a horizontal position! Ideal for travel by bus, train or plane. Buy case
Flip case book Onyx
The Onyx flip case is made of smooth eco-leather, which features a dense, scratch-resistant structure. Flip book for a long time will look like new and delight its owner. The magnetic closure on the top keeps the cover closed, preventing it from opening up in a bag and putting the screen at risk of being scratched. The cover folds down to give you full access to your phone’s functions. The cover is available in several colors for every taste. Buy case
DF book cover with flip
This accessory for Samsung Galaxy S8 is made by DF. Unlike similar books, the magnetic clasp of this cover is located on the side, which slightly reduces the time to open the cover. It looks very solid, restrained, but at the same time stylish. High-quality eco-leather, from which the accessory is made, is pleasant to the touch and looks very elegant. Inside there are pockets for business cards and cards, but the accessory remains thin and practically does not add extra volume to the phone. An excellent choice for all connoisseurs of classics and restraint in design! Buy case
S-shaped silicone Color Case
S-shaped bumpers are popular among buyers due to their unusual design, variety of colors and good protective features. On the back there is an S-shaped wave that divides it into two parts, one of which is matte and the other is glossy. The design is unusual and interesting, but at the same time it is not pretentious and quite restrained. The case is made of dense thermoplastic polyurethane, which protects the phone from scratches, scuffs, chips and even bumps when dropped, and there is a ribbed surface on each edge so that the phone in the case does not slip out of your hands. Buy case
Carry case with window and quick answer function
A smart window in a cover is very practical and convenient to use, but only Samsung itself produces this type of book and, alas, their cost cannot be called low. If you are interested in a budget option, we are pleased to offer a case with a quick answer function. This case does not have a smart window function, but through the cutout you can check the time and see incoming notifications and the name of the caller without having to open the cover. And special metal inserts even allow you to take a call with the cover closed, just slide your finger over them and the call is accepted. Buy case
Onyx Shockproof Hybrid Case
If you want to give your Samsung Galaxy S8 the best possible protection, you might be interested in a shockproof case. This variant consists of two layers of polycarbonate and a TPU case for a high level of protection. Resilient polyurethane absorbs and dissipates shock to keep your phone safe, while tough polycarbonate protects your phone from external damage and scratches. Despite its anti-shock properties, the case remains thin and practically does not add extra bulk to the phone – it will still fit in your pocket, and it will not take up extra space in your bag. There is a convenient stand for watching movies on the back panel – place your phone in a landscape orientation and enjoy an interesting movie! Buy case
Silicone case with carbon inserts
The bumper with carbon inserts is made of soft but durable silicone that can reliably protect your phone from scratches. This rubber has an interesting textured carbon design and an attractive glossy finish. It is incredibly thin and light and is almost imperceptible on the phone, and the original design will effectively complement the look of the phone. The raised front edge protects the phone’s screen from damage if you place the phone face down, and the air cushion technology saves the case even if dropped. Inexpensive and practical! Buy case
Matte case with silicone edges
The plastic case with silicone bumper is a great choice for those who want to protect their phone from drops and show off the sleek design of the Samsung Galaxy S8. A strong and resilient silicone bumper protects the most fragile and vulnerable parts of the phone, such as corners and sides, from damage, while matte plastic does not hide the stylish look of the phone. Official Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Micro USB 1.2m Cable
Genuine Samsung Only!
Overall Satisfaction
303552
If anyone is still running an old Samsung tablet or phone with what they think to be a sloppy USB2 port, and can’t make consistantly good contact with the cable, a genuine Samsung OEM cable is answer. It is the only cable I’ve found for my Galaxy Tab S2 and Galaxy S9 that reliably work. The problem is that most of the “Samsung” cables out there are counterfeits, even from reliable soutces. I took a flier on MobileFun and now have two genuine cables that make consistantly snug, positive contact. I’m now able to push the big $ outlay down the road until my devices die a natural death!

This is a great little item and any user needs a spare cable charger. These little things last about three years, but who keeps a smartphone for that long these days? Me, that’s who. So this replacement will keep my phone going for a while yet.

Apple sells Lightning – long live USB-C!
Apple first used the Lightning connector back in 2012, when the iPhone 5 smartphones were presented, along with them, Apple announced that it was abandoning the 30-pin connector, which was fatally outdated by that time. That is, at the very time when Android smartphones were already charging using compact micro-USB and mini-USB, iPhone owners had to carry separate chargers. And even then, in the same European Union, they put pressure on electronics manufacturers, motivating them to unify all connectors. In Apple, instead of switching to micro-USB, they invented their own connector and protected their unique eco-platform for another 7 years, creating a lot of inconvenience to users.
It’s likely that Apple thought they could impose on the world not only the standard smartphone form factor for decades to come, but connector standards for all wearable electronics. The idea, of course, is commendable, and, if successful, it could bring profit to Cupertino residents comparable to the profit from the AppStore. Just imagine, Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei, shameless Xiaomi and Meizu (copying everything in general) and all other smartphone manufacturers from each manufactured and sold device pay royalties to Apple – a wonderful future that never came. Lucky for all of us.
How that damned Lightning broke at the most inopportune moment, and in general at any moment, you can write a novel. I would venture to suggest that the track record of unreliable wiring is thousands of destroyed relationships and personal dramas, there are also, for sure, hundreds of family anecdotes and stories that friends remember even after many years. In general, the amazing unreliability of Lightning made it a separate legend of Apple, although this legend does not have a positive vibe at all.
At the same time, Apple’s impotence in the fight against its own technologies has created a huge market for reliable Lightning cables. After buying a tablet or smartphone, a regular cable is sent to the shelf, and the owner of an iPhone or iPad immediately purchases a “left” cable and constantly uses it. Have you ever seen an advertisement: “Reliable USB-C cable, tens of thousands of kinks without problems, high-quality fastening of the terminal with a wire!”? On Apple technology sites, half of the banners are filled with offers of alternative Lightning cables.
In addition, while Apple was praying for Lightning, the whole world was working on the development of USB-C and achieved very impressive results. For example, it is USB-C that Apple itself uses as new chargers for MacBooks. Or there is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo, they worked with USB-C and invented a charger that fully charges smartphone batteries in 20 minutes – Lightning is not capable of this in principle.
