If you’re making informed choices about the quality of the food you eat, you might also make informed choices about the quality of the water you drink. A new study by the U.S. Geological Survey estimates that “forever chemicals” can be found in 45% of tap water in the United States.

The EPA warns the substances, also known as per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are “long-lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time” and may be linked to harmful health effects in humans.
One way to help protect yourself from contaminants and reduce your overall exposure to unwanted substances? Experts say drink filtered water. (Some bottled water has been found to contain PFAS.) And while experts say Brita filters can remove some contaminants, you can also get filtered water and ice from your refrigerator. The CBS Essentials shopping experts have found the best refrigerators with water filters that might help reduce your intake of certain contaminants.
What are PFAS (forever chemicals)?
PFAS have been linked to a range of health problems, including certain forms of cancer. You may be able to reduce the amount of PFAS in your home’s water with a water filter. But not all water filters are the same.
“In general, refrigerator filters are designed to remove sediments, chlorine, lead and other common contaminants and not specifically PFAS compounds,” says Dr. Andrew Lazur, a University of Maryland water quality specialist. “That said, since some refrigerator filters use activated carbon, they can reduce some PFAS compounds, but may not achieve EPA or state-recommended concentrations.”
In other words, Lazur says that some fridge filters can reduce forever chemicals, but exactly how much may vary from product to product.
“Consumers should ask about the water filters used in the refrigerators, and inquire specifically about what contaminants are reduced, and by what percent,” Lazur told CBS Essentials. “Also asking about filter replacement schedule and cost may help in decision making.”
We also have a guide for standalone water filters here.

What is a Water Filter?
Refrigerators that include a water or ice dispenser sometimes have a water filter included; whether they do or don’t is often determined by the appliance’s age. Older fridges are supplied with water from the water supply, and no filtration process occurs.
Newer fridges, on the other hand, have an in-built water filter system that filters the water coming in from the water supply.
What Are the Benefits of a Water Filter?
Refrigerator water filters create better-tasting water that is clean and clear. Filters also remove potential bacteria, keeping you feeling happier and healthier.
The alternative to filtered water is bottled water which, while having the same health benefits, is much more expensive and time-consuming.

The Classic line is the traditional classic style of Sub-Zero refrigerators. Each Sub-Zero Classic embodies luxury and cutting-edge technology. Perfect appearance makes it the dominant of the kitchen, it harmoniously looks in the interior of any style.
Refrigerator ICBBI-36UID has two installation options: standard, when the appliance doors protrude forward or flush.
As a pioneer in the development of refrigeration systems for optimal food storage, Sub-Zero has incorporated its latest engineering solutions into the ICBBI-36UID. The microprocessor of the refrigerator constantly monitors the three most important parameters , on which the freshness of the products depends: temperature, humidity and air composition in the working area.
Two independent ICBBI-36UID refrigeration systems ensure optimal temperature conditions in the refrigerator and freezer compartments efficiently. The refrigerator is equipped with a dispenser with a built-in water filter and an automatic ice maker.
The innovative filter, using NASA technology, cleans bacteria and neutralizes ethylene gas inside the refrigerator compartment, which keeps food in the ICBBI-36UID fresher longer than in other refrigerators.
The inner surface of the refrigerator compartments is made of aluminium, covered with white enamel. It is resistant to scratches, does not absorb odors, does not turn yellow, and is easy to clean. The height of the glass shelves can be easily adjusted in 25 cm increments. A special glass coating keeps spilled liquid from spreading outside the shelf. Drawers for vegetables and fruits are hermetically sealed, they are equipped with closers, they slide out smoothly and are easy to take out. The containers are made of transparent, durable plastic that is impact resistant and will not yellow over time.
The premium interior of the Sub-Zero Classic ICBBI-36UID refrigerator is accentuated by thoughtful LED lighting and a stylish touch menu.

Sub-Zero microprocessor maintains optimum temperature and humidity levels for better food preservation. The temperature regime is regulated with an accuracy of 0.5C. The microprocessor memorizes the periods of the most frequent use of the refrigerator, in advance reducing the temperature at this time by 1.5 ° C in order to avoid thermal shock for products when the appliance door is opened. The dual compressor system maintains 50% humidity in the common chamber and 80% humidity in the vegetable storage boxes.

Reddit – Dive into anything
TL;DR – The wired soundsport pros filled a niche that somehow no longer exits. Earbuds that rest in your ear, but also have a wingtip. Plug style headphones are uncomfortable to many, and even cause headaches. I want my soundsports back 🙁
My girlfriend and I have been using the wired Bose Soundsports for years. I sleep with earbuds in, and as a result constantly break them. So when bose stopped selling them, and the reselling began it broke my heart. Currently on amazon you they resell for 100-500 dollars, for a product that originally cost $30. They can be found on ebay for 40 dollars, but inevitably only work in 1 ear. My girlfriend is dreading the day hers break, because to buy a functional pair of them that also work with android will cost her 500 dollars, and she’ll likely pay it. That’s how good these headphones are to us.
There seem to be 2 general types of earbud being produced the airpod generation 1 that simple rest in your ear and slip out easily. And the more popular and common earplug design. So popular that apple abandoned their previous design philosophy when sound isolation became a priority.
The earplug version creates a seal with your ear, isolating sound, and also trapping pressure inside your ear canal. For many people myself included this is incredibly uncomfortable. I have never found a pair of plug style earbuds that didnt give me a migraine after an hour of use.
The resting style is my prefered choice, but it too is flawed. Both with wired, and wireless versions they fall out of ears very easily. When I sleep with them I wake up and have to search the bed to find them.
There is an easy solution to this that almost noone seems to be using. Wingtips. However for some reason the industry has seems to unly use wingtips on earbuds that already have plug style design. Creating a double layer of security that is barely necessary. Rest style earbuds that need wingtips the most are almost non-existent, at least by my search. What few there are, are crude rubber addons that slip about and feel incredibly cheap.
In my search for a pair of headphones to replace the Bose Soundsports I only found 1 pair that was attempting to replicate the style, and it was a poor imitation that slipped off easily.
In the age of wireless earbuds and charging cases it is astonishing to me that not a single company seems to be filling this niche. It solves all the problems of the resting style earbuds, without the headaches associated with plug earbuds (for some). Given the resale value of the original wired bose soundsports I think its obvious there is a niche to be filled, and dear god do I wish some company would fill it. I am not a headphone snob in anyway. I break wired earbuds constantly so buy very cheap, and also have never spent more than 40 bucks on a pair of wireless earbuds. I just want something that will stay in my ear, and not give me migraines dammit.
Thank you for coming to my long winded rant about this. It’s been bothering me for years and I can’t believe no one else has picked up the ball.

Bose has a reputation for producing some of the best headphones on the market, and quality often comes at a high price. However, you can find unbeatable values by shopping Certified Refurbished Bose headphones on eBay. Our eBay Refurbished program offers products in like-new condition, including accessories, instruction manuals, and packaging. That means you enjoy the same audio quality as someone buying the product from a big box store. Buyers are protected with a 2-year warranty and have 30 days from receiving the product to return it for a refund or a replacement free of charge. Only the best sellers are admitted into the program and eBay monitors their performance and customer service metrics. If you want a great pair of headphones but are suffering from sticker shock, Certified Refurbished may be the way to go.
How Do Bose Noise-Canceling Headphones Work?
Noise-canceling headphones can sense noise from the microphone on your headphones. The technology creates a “fingerprint” of the sound based on the frequency and amplitude of the sound, and it creates a new wave of white noise that’s 180 degrees out of phase with the noise. The new wave allows you to hear conversations or music while blocking the background noise.
How Long Does the Battery Last in Bose Headphones?
Battery life depends both on usage and on the particular model. For the QuietComfort 35 headphones, battery life is estimated at 20 hours when used wirelessly and 40 hours when used as wired headphones. For the Bluetooth SoundLink headphones, a charge lasts around 15 hours.
When are Bose SoundLink Headphones Fully Charged?
You should allow up to three hours to fully charge your headphones. The indicator on the side of the headphones makes it easy to tell when charging is complete. While charging, the indicator light glows amber. When fully charged, it glows green.
What is Triport Technology?
Noise-canceling styles such as the Bose QuietComfort 35 include the added feature of active, noise-canceling technology. While this is a great option, not everyone needs or wants noise-canceling features. Triport technology offers a more affordable option that still delivers Bose sound without the noise-canceling functionality.
Are the QuietComfort 35 Headphones Wireless?
Yes. The QuietComfort 35 uses Bluetooth to form a wireless connection. These headphones can also be used in wired mode. This is useful if the battery needs to be charged or if you would like to preserve the battery life for extended wireless use at a later time.
Can Wireless Headphones be Paired with Both Phones and Laptops?
Most wireless headphones from Bose can be paired with up to eight different devices, including phones, computers, and external speakers. Usually, the wireless headphones automatically connect to the most recently used device. Step-by-step instructions are available for each Bose model, so you can toggle from one connection to another.

Touch controls
You can fine-tune your cooking temperature with the LED touch panel that recognizes your movements. Simply swipe or touch the bar to select the desired function and temperature.
Triple circular expansion zone
This cooking zone makes it easy to choose your cookware, with a choice of three different diameters of cooking zones, you can use a large frying pan, a medium saucepan or a small saucepan for cooking, and the right heating zone will additionally help save energy and protect the handles of your dishes from excessive heating. You can select the zone diameter with one touch on the control panel sensor. The presence of different expansion zones makes the operation of the hob more convenient and allows the use of dishes of different diameters.
Oval extension zone
The oval extension zone opens up additional conveniences in cooking on the hob and makes the heating zone versatile: in normal mode it is suitable for cookware with a small or medium bottom, and when the oval extension zone is activated, you can use non-standard cookware forms, for example: a goose dish, a grill pan, a pancake maker and large non-standard dishes, will also allow you to cook whole fish.
Timer
The electronic timer will help you to set the duration of cooking, after which the hob will stop its work. The electronic timer allows you to set an acoustic signal that sounds after the set time has elapsed even if the hob is not in cooking mode. Set the time period for cooking the dish and go about your business, at the right time, the timer will turn off the heating zone itself or notify you of the end of the time period.
Automatic switch-off
Special function that automatically switches off the hob if the user forgets to do so. The time for the emergency shutdown of the hob or the switched on burners depends on the preselected heating step. You can be completely confident in the safety of cooking.
Residual heat indicator
The indicator light in the hobs stays on until the temperature of the corresponding heating field drops to 60°C. It can also be used to keep food warm when the hob is already off, saving energy and letting you know when to clean the surface.
Child safety feature
By turning on the child safety function, the control panel will be locked and the little fidget will not be able to turn on the surface, this will make sure that trouble will not happen to the younger cooks.
Samsung Electronics was founded in 1969 and quickly developed into a leading manufacturer in the Korean market. During this initial period, the home electronics business boomed and the company began exporting its products for the first time.
Thanks to its success in electronics, Samsung is recognized as a global technology leader and is now one of the world’s top ten brands.
Our recommendations for installation
To install the hob, you need a worktop with a thickness of at least 30 mm, cut to size according to the installation plan. Along the perimeter of the cutout, it is necessary to install the self-adhesive thermal insulation tape that comes with the kit (in some models it is already pasted around the perimeter of the hob). Ovens equipped with a cooling fan can be installed under the hob, provided that there is at least 5 mm space between the hob and the oven.
Attention: purchase the cable for connecting to the hob in advance, depending on how the appliance will be connected. We recommend that you read the operating instructions for the hob and, if necessary, consult with a specialist.
Warranty
The warranty period for this instrument is 12 months (1 year) and is provided by the manufacturer from the date of purchase. If problems occur during the warranty period or later, please contact Samsung specialized centers Contacting specialists will help you quickly and cost-effectively solve problems that arise.

Sharing your home with a pet can be highly rewarding, but it comes with responsibilities. Take house cleaning, for example. Chances are, you’ll need to vacuum and mop the floors at least once a week, especially during the shedding season.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 and its upgraded version, the Dyson Ball Animal 3, can make things a lot easier.
Both vacuums are suitable for pet owners due to their high suction power and detangling features. But when it comes to the Dyson Animal 2 vs. Animal 3, it’s the little details that make the difference.
With that in mind, we tested both models to see how they compare against each other.

🥇 Which Dyson is Best?
🧪 Performance
Both the Dyson Ball Animal 2 and the Animal 3 performed well in our tests, but the latter was better overall.
As a side note, we tested an earlier version of the Animal 2, which had 306 Air Watts (AW) of suction power.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 lay down height
Last year, Dyson reduced the suction power to 227 AW. However, that’s not necessarily a drawback—306 AW was a bit too much, even for a “pet-friendly” vacuum.
Moving forward, our team conducted two performance tests to get a better picture of the Dyson Animal 2 vs. Animal 3:
Cleaning test
Usability test
Additionally, we performed three more tests on the Dyson Ball Animal 3, including:
Noise test
Long hair test
Pet hair test
Next, we scored each model based on its cleaning performance, as shown below:
Dyson Animal 2
96. 0%
Dyson Animal 3
99.4%
Now let’s discuss the results.
Cleaning Tests
We test each vacuum on three types of flooring and four types of debris to see how it performs in real-life scenarios. For example, some vacuums can clean up kitty litter and other large debris almost instantly but may struggle with pet hair, sugar, or dust.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 on hardwood floors
Listed below is the total percentage of debris (by weight) removed by each vacuum in our tests:

As you can see, the Dyson Animal V3 did a better job at cleaning high-pile carpets than the Animal V2. Apart from that, they performed equally well on hard floors and low-pile carpets.

We also wanted to see how effective they were at removing the following debris:
Dry cereal
Rice
Granulated sugar
Kitty litter
Testing Debris – From left to right: Rice (3 oz.), Kitty Litter (3 oz), Cereal (1 oz), Sugar (3 oz)
Let’s discuss the results.
Dyson Animal 2 Cleaning Performance
The Dyson Animal V2 removed nearly all debris from hard floors and carpets without any issues. It struggled with cereal on high-pile carpets, but apart from that, its performance was top-notch.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 hardwood floor performance
Again, we tested the 306 AW version, which had incredible suction. The problem is that a vacuum with so much suction power may not perform optimally on fluffy carpets, especially against larger debris. This could explain why the cereal was pushed to the side instead of being sucked in.

High Pile Carpet

The 227 AW version shouldn’t have these issues. However, the 306 AW model did a great job overall, scoring over 90% on our tests.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 Cleaning Performance
With 290 AW of suction, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is one of the most powerful vacuums we’ve tested to date. It actually did a better job than the Dyson Animal 2, the Dyson Multi Floor 2, the Shark Apex DuoClean, and the Shark Navigator.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 before hardwood cleaning testDyson Ball Animal 3 after hardwood cleaning test
In addition to its high suction power, this upright vacuum comes with a Motorbar cleaning head, which allows it to go deep into carpet fibers.

High Pile Carpet

Leaving this aspect aside, the Dyson Animal 3 performed remarkably well against all types of debris, including dry cereal. Although it left some sugar on low-pile carpets, it still did a better job than most vacuums we’ve tested so far.

Noise Test
As mentioned earlier, we performed a few more tests on the Dyson Animal 3. First, we wanted to see how loud the vacuum is, so we placed a noise meter about 3″ away from it.
With an average noise level of 81 dB, it’s no louder than being inside an airplane. There’s no getting around it, powerful suction produces fairly loud noise. As you can see from the chart below, its no worse than other upright vacuums.

Pet Hair Test
According to Dyson, the Ball Animal 2 is specially designed for homes with pets, so we decided to put it to the test. The results showed a slight edge for the older model.
Table showing Dyson Ball Animal 2: 100% and Dyson Animal 3 at 99%.
Dyson Animal 3 Pet Hair Test BeforeDyson Animal 3 Pet Hair Test After
In the end, both models were extremely effective at removing pet hair from carpet, and neither the 2 or 3’s brush head experienced any clogging or tangling.
As an extra note, the Dyson dust bin feels better designed for debris like this to slid out during the emptying process compared to other upright vacuums we’ve tested where hair can clump into crevices or corners.
Long Hair Test
Compared to the previous hair test, this one had a clear winner. While both vacuums were effective at removing long hair from the testing surface, the amount of tangling in the brushroll differed dramatically.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 Post Long Hair Test
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 struggled badly during the test where the Animal 3 had zero tangling of the long hair. However, the Animal 3 has zero issues.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 post hair test
As we will discuss later on, the two models have very different brush heads. The brush heads are certainly one of the bigger changes between the two. At the very least, it’s great to see evidence that Dyson is aware of issues with their older models and that they’re capable of fixing them.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 removing brushroll
As a final note here, the motorbar cleaning head used in the Animal 3 is easier to disassemble than the self-adjusting cleaning head used in the Animal 2. Which is a shame because it was the Animal 2 that needed it to remove the long hair from the brush roll.
👍 Usability Test
Moving forward, we wanted to see how the two vacuums compare against each other in terms of usability.
Both models take minutes to assemble and include a user-friendly instruction manual plus various tools and accessories.

The hose and wand will add an extra 15 feet of reach, so you can move around freely without having to carry the vacuum with you. Plus, the cord is 30 to 35 feet long (depending on the model), which will further increase your reach.
Dyson Animal 2 cleaning stairs
As shown above, the Dyson Animal 2 and the Animal 3 weigh pretty much the same, but the former has a larger dustbin. Also, both vacuums include an extension wand that allows you to clean up under or behind the furniture and other tricky areas.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 Usability
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is fairly heavy but easy to maneuver. Apart from that, it’s almost identical to the Dyson Animal 3 in terms of usability, except for its large 2-liter dustbin and the shorter cord.
Some notable features include:
Ball technology
Tangle-free Turbine tool
Self-adjusting cleaning head
Easy-empty dust cup
Instant-release wand
Advanced whole-machine filtration
Washable filters
For example, you can empty the dustbin with the push of a button, which makes cleaning a lot easier. Similarly, the hose and extension wand can be released in an instant.
Cleaning a flight of stairs is just as easy. Simply place the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and then go all the way up as needed.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 Usability
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 has all of the features available on the Animal 2, plus a tool holder. However, it uses the Motorbar instead of a standard cleaning head—but more on that later.
Just like the Animal 2, it comes with an easy-empty dustbin, an instant-release wand, advanced whole-machine filtration, and Dyson’s Ball technology.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 using hose and wand
Another difference lies in the cord length. This model has a 35-foot cord, whereas the Dyson Ball Animal 2 has a 30-foot cord. Its dustbin, however, can only hold 1.7 liters of dust and debris, which is significantly less compared to the Animal 2.
Also, note that each vacuum comes in multiple versions, each with slightly different features. For example, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Complete includes more tools and accessories than the Dyson Ball Animal 3.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 and the Animal 3 are very similar in size and shape. The latter is sleeker and lighter, but the difference is negligible. Except for the cleaning head, they also come with similar tools and accessories.
Removing the canister dust bin
Both models feature an upright design, but unlike other vacuums, they don’t have a detachable canister and, therefore, cannot be used as a handheld device.
TIP: Get the Shark Stratos, the Vertex, or the APEX if you want a vacuum with multiple configurations. Any of these models can be used as a handheld device.
Now let’s take a closer look at the similarities between the two:
Long hose and extension wand
Advanced HEPA filtration
Excellent cleaning performance
Strong suction
Washable filters
Hygienic bin emptying
Solid build
A notable difference between the two lies in their power settings. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has only one cleaning mode, so there’s no way to adjust the suction level.
By comparison, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 has three power modes for different types of flooring. There’s one cleaning mode for low-pile carpets, one for deep- and medium-pile carpets, and one for hard floors.

Dyson Ball Animal 3

The Dyson Animal 3 is 0.2 pounds lighter than the Dyson Ball Animal 2, but apart from that, they look very similar.
Accessories & Parts
Both vacuum cleaners include the same tools and attachments, except for the cleaning head. However, other versions may include additional accessories.
Dyson Ball Animal 3 unboxed
That said, here’s what you’ll get with each model:
Self-adjusting cleaning head: *Included on the Dyson Ball Animal 2 only
Motorbar cleaning head: *Included on the Dyson Ball Animal 3 only
Turbine tool: *Included on the Dyson Ball Animal 2 only
Stair tool: Included on both models
Combination tool: Included on both models
Tool holder: *Included on the Dyson Ball Animal 3 only
Washable filters: Included on both models
Other models may include additional tools.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 Total Clean, for example, also comes with a reach-under tool, a multi-angle brush, a tool bag, and other accessories. Similarly, the Dyson Ball Animal Complete features 10 different accessories, including a pet grooming tool, a mattress tool, and more.
Where are the differences?
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 and the Animal 3 only include a few basic accessories, but these are powerful enough to remove most debris.
For example, the tangle-free turbine tool features counter-rotating heads that clean up dirt, debris, and hair from upholstery and carpets. At the same time, it prevents hair and pet fur from getting tangled around the brushroll, a common problem with traditional vacuum cleaners.
Now let’s take a closer look at the different parts and accessories included with each model.
Self-adjusting cleaning head
This tool is similar to the Motorbar cleaning head but slightly more basic. Just like the Motorbar, it has an active base plate that goes up and down as you’re vacuuming the floor, removing stubborn dirt and other debris.
*Included on the Dyson Ball Animal 2 only
Motorbar cleaning head
The Motorbar is capable of adjusting the suction power based on the type of surface being cleaned. It also features a switch you can move to the left, right, or center, depending on whether you’re vacuuming hard floors, low-pile carpets, or medium-pile carpets and rugs. 🥇 Which Dyson is Best?
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 and the Animal 3 share many similarities in terms of design, usability, and performance. Based on our tests, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 feels like a better choice, but the Animal 2 has its perks.
In most cases, these two vacuums are going to be around the same price. If they are, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is the clear choice. However, if the Animal 2 is substantially less expensive it’s not a bad option by any stretch.
Should you buy the Dyson Ball Animal 2?
I would recommend the Dyson Ball Animal 2 to customers who:
Have pets: Dyson’s tangle-free turbine tool makes it easier to remove pet hair from sofas, armchairs, rugs, and other surfaces. With its sleek design, it’s easy to maneuver and ideal for handheld cleaning.
Live in a larger home: The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is pretty big and takes up a lot of space. For this reason, it’s better suited for larger homes rather than small houses or studio apartments. However, it’s easy to move it around the house because of the long hose and extension wand.
Want a large dustbin:This upright vacuum has a 1.7-liter dustbin, which is more than enough for a larger home. Therefore, it’s slightly more convenient and requires less frequent emptying than the Dyson Ball Animal 3.
Prioritize convenience:Besides its large dustbin capacity, the Animal 2 features an easy-empty dust cup, an instant-release wand, and a self-adjusting cleaning head. These features can take some of the hassle out of cleaning your home while saving you time.

Should you buy the Dyson Ball Animal 3?
I would recommend the Dyson Ball Animal 3 if you want an upright vacuum that meets the following criteria:
Delivers excellent cleaning performance: The Dyson Ball Animal 3 removed 99.4% of the debris in our tests, regardless of the type of floor. Its outstanding cleaning performance is largely due to its high suction power and the Motorbar head.
Removes allergens: According to Dyson, the post-motor filter on the Animal 3 is capable of trapping 99.9% of allergens, such as dust and pet dander. Its advanced filtration system can capture airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.
Can handle stubborn pet hair: This upright vacuum removed 100% of long hairs and 95% of pet hair in our cleaning tests. With 290 AW of suction, it’s powerful enough to pick up stubborn pet hair from carpets, hard floors, area rugs, and other surfaces.
Features multiple cleaning modes: The Dyson Ball Animal 3 has three power settings for different surfaces, offering more flexibility than the Animal 2, which has only one cleaning mode. Plus, it can automatically adjust the suction level based on the type of flooring and the debris you’re dealing with.

Final Thoughts
When it comes to the Dyson Animal 2 vs. Animal 3, it’s not easy to choose between the two.
Both vacuums deliver outstanding cleaning performance and can be a great choice for households with pets. Moreover, both models feature an advanced filtration system and powerful tools for thorough cleaning.
Since they’re quite similar, consider buying the one with the best price at the time of purchase. Let us know what you’re looking for, and we’ll try to help you pick the right vacuum for your needs.

RELATED: Best Upright Vacuums of 2023
Our Verdict
There is no question that the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is an overall great vacuum. However, it was not the best in our review, earning a runner-up position. While this vacuum has a long reach for cleaning stairs and does well on both carpet and hard floors, even excelling at collecting pet hair, it is hard to get past the outrageous price. It is also on the heavier side, something we noticed from time to time when maneuvering. Overall, we’d still recommend this vacuum if you can find it on sale, but other models perform a bit better at a friendlier cost.

Our Analysis and Test Results
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a high-tech, performance vacuum. It cleans well, handles well, and does an excellent job collecting pet hair. However, it didn’t quite measure up enough and is quite costly. Apparently, all the fancy cyclonic separators and other top-of-the-line features aren’t cheap.
Performance Comparison
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a good vacuum, though it isn’t amazing.

Carpet Cleaning
Carpet cleaning is by far the most important of our tests and comprised 35% of the total score for each vacuum. This metric evaluated each vacuum’s ability to collect oats, flour, cereal, and rice. We repeat the test on both low-pile and medium-pile fluffy carpets. The Animal 2 did well but was outshined by a few other exceptional models.
This Dyson performed just fine, but wasn’t the best.
Credit: Jenna Ammerman
The Animal 2 did very well in our rice collection test on low-pile carpet, taking two passes to get 99% of the rice and a final third pass to collect some residual fragments and dust. It performed similarly in the fluffy carpet, again requiring a couple of passes to clean the mess. When it came to flour collection, a challenge for most models, the Animal was a bit of a disappointment.
This model did somewhat poorly, taking plenty of passes and leaving plenty of residual flour behind.
Credit: Austin Palmer
Performance improved in our cereal collection test. This model did a decent job collecting Cheerios from flat carpet, getting nearly everything in a couple of passes, and then grabbing the remainder with a couple more. It did a similar job on fluffy carpet but tended to push the cereal around before picking it up.
This vacuum actually collected the Cheerios, rather than just pushing them around.
Credit: Austin Palmer
This vacuum did fine on flat carpet, though it left some crushed oat dust behind after four passes. It performed similarly on fluffier carpet, with all of the large flakes collected after four passes. No matter how many times we tried, crumbs and fragments embedded in the carpet refused to be sucked up.
Ease of Use
We weighted this metric next in terms of importance, and it accounted for 25% of the total score. Testing for this category consisted of evaluating how easy it was to transition between different flooring types, each vacuum’s maximum reach, noise levels, and how closely it could clean next to an edge or under furniture. This was not the best metric for the Animal 2, though it certainly wasn’t the worst of the bunch.

Credit: Jenna Ammerman
The Animal 2 did exceptionally well in our edging test, collecting almost all debris, and performed even better than some of the most premium models.
The vacuum cleaned in close to the edges and corners of our test space.
Credit: Austin Palmer
The Animal 2 did just below average for the furniture under reach test. This model reached 6 inches under our simulated box sofa. The maximum reach is just a cut above average, measuring in at 32′ with 30′ of that being cord length.
The Animal 2 doesn’t clean particularly far under furniture.
Credit: Austin Palmer
Unfortunately for your eardrums, this vacuum is a little loud, especially when on the carpet. Our SPL meter read 76 dBa, which is among the louder readings in our product lineup, though not by much.
Handling
The Animal did well here. To assess this, we rated and compared the pushing and pulling effort, maneuverability, and ease of cleaning a flight of stairs. Altogether, these three tests accounted for 20% of the total score.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has an exceptional reach and was able to clean an entire flight of stairs without needing to be moved.
Credit: Jenna Ammerman
It was quite easy to clean a flight of stairs with the Animal 2. This model has a nice long reach and could clean 12 stairs before needing to be moved. However, this vacuum is heavy at 16 pounds. Still, it excelled in our maneuverability tests. We cleaned around a set of typical furniture, noting where each vacuum got stuck or missed spots. The Animal is one of the easiest upright vacuums to maneuver and only takes moderate to mild effort to push or pull — only slightly hampered by its weight.
Hard Surface Cleaning
The Ball Animal 2 did very well in our hard surface tests but was not as good as the best models we tested. We once again used rice, flour, oats, and cereal, conducting each of these tests on a section of laminate hardwood floor. This vacuum automatically adjusts the height for hard floors, and we turned the brush off for all of these tests.
The Dyson got practically all the oats in a single pass.
Credit: Jenna Ammerman
The Animal 2 did a perfect job in the rice test, picking up all of the debris on the first pass. However, it did not continue this performance with our flour test, a tough one for many of our contenders. It collected all of the flour off of the floor’s surface but left plenty of residual debris in the cracks — even after multiple passes.
All of the surface flour was collected, but plenty remained in the gaps between boards.
Credit: Austin Palmer
The Animal resumed its solid performance in our cereal test, collecting all of the Cheerios in two passes. We were somewhat skeptical at first, as the vacuum initially piled them up instead of sucking them away, but it shifted partway through and collected every Cheerio. This vacuum also cleaned up the vast majority of the oats in only a few passes, requiring only a few more tries to finish the job.
Pet Hair
The final metric in our tests, pet hair, accounts for the remaining 10% of each total score. We tested pet hair performance by spreading 5 grams of pet hair from a local groomer onto a medium-pile carpet and pressing it in with a floor roller. True to its name, the Ball Animal 2 did exceptionally well in this test, collecting 98.2% of the hair.
This Dyson model did very well at collecting pet hair.
Credit: Austin Palmer
Should You Buy the Dyson Ball Animal 2?
While the Dyson is a fairly decent vacuum, it doesn’t perform as well as you’d hope for the incredibly high price. We’d expect premium performance at such a premium price, and the Dyson Ball Animal 2 simply does not deliver. We do not recommend this model, as it was outperformed by significantly less expensive models.
What Other Upright Vacuums Should You Consider?
The Ball Animal 2 is a premium-priced model that fails to deliver premium performance. A better alternative would be to consider the Shark Vertex or the Shark APEX DuoClean Zero-M.

Marshall Middleton Portable Speaker – video
If you often listen to music on your smartphone, you will definitely need a portable Bluetooth speaker, and one of the best options here is the Marshall Middleton. With its help, you can enjoy your favorite music in high quality, on the street, on the road or just in the apartment room.
Of course, the Marshall column is not cheap, but it justifies its price. Middleton delivers amazing sound quality, lasts up to 20 hours on a charge, and is IP67 water and dust resistant. This is an excellent option for both home listening and for a noisy party on the street, in a large company.

Unboxing and kit
The Marshall Middleton contains only the main accessories.
We get: 9Marshall Middleton , although the new column is larger and heavier .
It resembles Marshall guitar amps, but it’s worth noting here that the Middleton was made by the Swedish manufacturer Zound, not Marshall Amplification. Although recently both companies merged into one, and the concern is called the Marshall Group.
The speaker has a rectangular body, so it is quite difficult to turn it over by accident, especially considering the weight of 1.8 kg. But even if the device falls on its side, nothing will happen, because the case is quite reliable.
Despite the absence of plugs for 3.5 mm and USB-C connectors, the speaker has IP67 water and dust resistance. This means that through Middleton you can safely listen to music by the pool or on the seashore, the equipment will even withstand immersion in water to a depth of 0.5 m for 30 minutes. True, after this, it is better to dry the speaker completely before starting to use the connectors again.
Marshall also cares about the environment. According to the company, Middleton is made from 55% recycled plastic from used bottles, caps or electronics.
Driver Locations
Marshall Middleton’s front grille hides a single 0.6″ tweeter paired with a passive radiator which I found to be responsible for the speaker’s stereo right channel. At the same time, a similar emitter located at the back takes care of the left channel.
Two 3-inch woofers push low frequencies from left and right. And the whole system is powered by two 20-watt Class D amplifiers for the woofers and two 10-watt Class D amplifiers for the tweeters.
Together they create what Marshall calls “true stereo sound”.
The vast majority of Bluetooth speakers of this size use single speakers, or multiple speakers so close together that the stereo effect feels monophonic. Remarkably, Marshall’s unit manages to reproduce sound that feels more authentic in separation, even when panning forward and backward.
Control keys
All Marshall Middleton controls are on the top side.
In the very center is a multi-directional copper-colored key that performs several functions. Its movements up or down with incredible precision adjust the volume, and left and right – switch the track. Pressing this button is responsible for playing and pausing, as well as turning the speaker on and off.
Slightly to the right are the bass and treble adjustment keys, so it is not necessary to look for an equalizer in the Marshall Bluetooth app. To the left of the center button, you’ll find buttons for Bluetooth pairing and checking the battery level.
Connection and application
If you want to access higher quality playback on the Marshall Middleton, you must use the AUX line port on the rear panel. Through it, you need to connect the speaker to your smartphone or computer, playing streaming music at a higher resolution.
Like many Bluetooth speakers, the Middleton has a companion app (iOS and Android) that works with other Marshall speakers and headphones. It gives you access to all features, including in-app controls for volume, bass and treble EQ sliders, or Stack mode.
Overall, the app is easy to use and not overloaded with useless features.
The latter allows you to connect several Middleton speakers together for an incredibly powerful sound (unfortunately, I could not check this, I got only one product for review). Communication between devices is maintained at a distance of up to 10 meters, which allows you to get a real three-dimensional effect.
Sound quality
The Marshall Middleton sound quality is one of the best Bluetooth speakers on the market in recent years.
Of course, considering the high price, this should not be surprising, but the sound quality here is really amazing. The volume reaches very high values, but the bass is the most impressive. Many portable Bluetooth speakers are not always able to reproduce the entire range of low frequencies, but Middleton does not have such a problem.
The Marshall speaker handles every genre of music from classical to hard rock flawlessly, and the bass is palpable even at low volumes.
Voices and vocals are also clear, and mids are crisp and detailed. Despite the fact that the device only supports the basic SBC codec, you will be able to hear all the details in any composition. There is no distortion at high volume, and you are unlikely to have to set the value to the maximum volume.
Autonomy Marshall Middleton
Middleton is able to work quite a long time from a charge – about 20 hours.
This audio device from Marshall is one of the leaders in battery life. By comparison, a similarly sized JBL Pulse 5 recently reviewed lasts just 12 hours.
But recharging is surprisingly slow, taking 4.5 hours. Even the larger Marshall Tufton takes half the time to restore energy. At the very least, charging takes place via a USB-C connector, so you can use almost any cable from a smartphone or tablet.
Bottom line
The Marshall Middleton is one of the best Bluetooth speakers on the market today.
It not only has a stylish design, but also amazing sound quality. The model perfectly copes with any music, while it pleases with powerful bass and incredible volume.
There is also IP67 water protection, which allows you to safely use the device outdoors even in the rain. The only problem is the high price, but Middleton fully justifies it.
Should You Buy
If you’re looking for the ultimate Bluetooth speaker for a noisy party, Marshall’s Middleton is the perfect choice.

Microsoft’s Next-Generation Xbox Is Actually Just Named ‘Xbox’
The next-generation Xbox was officially unveiled last December at the 2019 Game Awards in Los Angeles.
It was introduced as the “Xbox Series X,” but the way that name was presented made it look like the console generation was actually just named “Xbox.”
That is the case, Microsoft confirmed to Business Insider. The next-generation Xbox consoles are named “Xbox,” starting with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10.
“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox,” a Microsoft representative said.

The next-generation Xbox got another big reveal last week, with a first look at a new piece of hardware and a name: Xbox Series S.
The Xbox Series S — and its more powerful and more expensive counterpart, the Xbox Series X — is part of the fourth generation of Xbox consoles from Microsoft, following the original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
It’s quite a list of names, especially compared with the simplicity of Sony’s PlayStation line, which starts with the PlayStation 1 in 1995 and runs through to the PlayStation 5, scheduled to be released in 2020.
And that’s why Microsoft is streamlining the naming conventions: Going forward, it’s just Xbox.
“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox,” a Microsoft representative told Business Insider earlier this year. More than just simplifying the name, it also allowed “room for additional consoles in the future. ”
With two new next-gen Xbox consoles on the horizon, the Series S and the Series X, that subtle naming change makes more sense than ever.
The strategy was first hinted at when the Xbox Series X was first shown in late 2019. There was something particular about the way that Microsoft revealed the name of the console:
Microsoft’s Xbox head, Phil Spencer, on stage at the 2019 Game Awards, where Microsoft introduced the Xbox Series X.
Microsoft / The Game Awards
Do you see it?
“The new” is tiny, followed by “XBOX” in huge letters, and then “Series X” in medium-sized letters below that.
Like this:
Microsoft
Upon closer inspection, it appears that “Xbox” is the make and “Series X” is the model — as if the name going forward for Xbox consoles is simply “Xbox. “
That was, in fact, the intent — however subtly it was conveyed.
“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox,” a Microsoft representative told Business Insider. “And at The Game Awards [in late 2019] you saw that name come to life through the Xbox Series X.”
Like the first Xbox generation, the next one is simply named “Xbox.”
It’s a basic rebranding, but a meaningful one that could help to simplify the Xbox line for interested consumers. It also clarifies Microsoft’s intention with its console line.
Like Apple’s iPhone, there are options: The $300 Xbox Series S, or the $500 Xbox Series X. Both consoles play the same games, and are functionally similar, but the more expensive console can produce higher fidelity visuals.
In short: Microsoft is now offering “the Xbox,” and you can decide which version of that console fits best into your life (and budget).
It’s a bit of an expansion on Microsoft’s current Xbox generation, where the company offers an Xbox One S and and Xbox One X with similar price-for-power tradeoffs.
Microsoft
But things weren’t always so simple: For several years, Microsoft offered three different versions of the Xbox One, including the original version of the console (which looked different from both of the consoles seen above).
All three of these consoles are part of the “Xbox One” generation, from 2013 to present day. They all play the same Xbox One games, though the Xbox One X is technically far more powerful than the other two boxes.
Confused yet?
That’s exactly why Microsoft is simplifying its naming convention going forward: It’s just “Xbox” from now on.
Check out the intro video for the Xbox Series S right here:
No, the new Xbox console names aren’t confusing – but the Xbox One must die ASAP
Xbox One. Xbox One S. Xbox One X. Xbox Series S. Xbox Series X. That’s the line-up of Xbox consoles that will be ‘active’ by the end of the year.
When you type all the names out like that, I have to admit it does look a bit ridiculous. Sure, the original Xbox One is retired but its ecosystem is not, with its smaller, more powerful descendants still trucking on.
In the wake of the confirmation of the Xbox Series S complete with pre-order details, a common thread in comments sections, message boards and social media online has been the idea that the naming of the latest additions to the Xbox family are at risk of being confusing. It’s a fair take, to be honest: imagine trying to explain the difference between the Xbox One S, Series S, One X and Series X to a clueless parent in the panicked midst of Christmas shopping. Back when I was a student I lived some of this nightmare, working retail at a time when there was a silly number of Nintendo DS models on the market.
Explaining these product differences sounds easier than it is, especially to those of us who understand the difference between 1440p and 4K or the concept of frame rates and just assume the rest of the world also gets it.
But with that said, I don’t think things are quite as bad for Xbox as some online are making out. The problem isn’t the Series S and Series X branding, after all. You can look at these machines and understand the difference. The petite, cheaper one is less powerful, while the hulking, expensive one is, well, the beast. Many consumers can be a bit thick about games if they’re not dedicated gamers, but they’re not that thick.
The letters bear this out as well: S for small, X for Extra. Or something like that. These two machines play the same games, albeit in slightly different ways, and make use of the same accessories and controllers. That pair is defined as the foreseeable future of Xbox.
The problem, then, is Microsoft holding on to the previous platform. It’s not the difference between the Xbox Series S and Series X that’s most confusing – it’s the difference between the Xbox One S and the Xbox Series S. People will inevitably see TV adverts and go into stores and ask for the Xbox S. They’re similar sizes, with similar names – they’re even the same color. That differentiation is muddier. These are the same sorts of consumers that got confused and thought the Wii U was a new type of controller for the Wii and not a new machine; explaining to them is vital.
While Microsoft’s backward and forward compatible vision is great for consumers in practice, it adds to the confusion. On store shelves many games for the next year or so will now come in cross-generation boxes that are technically compatible with all the Xbox machines. “We want the one with the game pass,” a clueless parent will say to an exasperated sales assistant. Well, you see, they all have game pass, but…
This is where the confusion arises, and this is where Microsoft needs to add clarity to its Xbox console slate. That clarity is easy enough to attain: the company simply needs to put a bullet in the Xbox One consoles. The Xbox One brand, even.
The first baby steps are being taken toward this. Back in July, it was confirmed that the Xbox One X and the digital-only Xbox One S (that’s the one without a disc drive) were to be “phased out” to make way for the Series X and S. But in the same breath, Microsoft promised to continue to manufacture and sell the Xbox One S. Given its general similarity to the Series S on many fronts – pricing, design, and even the chunk of the market it’s targeted at – that continuation seems unwise, even though continuing to have a $200 or even $150 bargain last-generation Xbox on the market might be attractive.
A lot was valiantly done in the later years to rescue a disastrous start to the generation for Xbox, and it’s fair to say that in engineering terms, the Xbox One S and X are superior to the PlayStation 4 Slim & Pro. But that’s irrelevant now. This hardware is irrelevant now. Owners of the existing Xbox One consoles will hardly be out in the cold. They’ll still get to enjoy a variety of games that release as cross-generation titles, a huge game pass library, and services like xcloud – but at some point, a line has to be drawn. The naming choices Xbox has made just means that line should be drawn sooner.
In an ideal world, the Xbox One S and Xbox One X need to be gone by next summer at the latest. For the first six months they can probably get away with it – early adopters will be more clued up, and specifically asking for ‘the new Xbox’. But after that it’s key the old machines are quickly retired to present a clear, understandable product line-up.
Oh, and while they’re at it? They might as well cancel the Xbox One version of Halo Infinite. Who decided to let such a flagship game be held back by old hardware? If that game is the next ten years of Halo all-in-one as a platform, it needs to look forward – not back. Xbox One owners can still play it through xcloud anyway.
Unboxing Xbox Series X – the upcoming next generation console
Devices
2 november 2020
The official start of sales of the Xbox Series X and S is scheduled for November 10, but we have already got our hands on the older version of the next generation game console – X, with a drive. We are not yet able to demonstrate the user interface and talk about the games, but we are ready to share the first tactile sensations. Let’s unpack the box!
Packaging
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
The front side shows the upper part of the console with its branded green “honeycombs” (which are needed to remove hot air from the system) and information about hardware capabilities. So, Microsoft says that the set-top box will be able to provide images in 4K resolution and with support for 120 FPS (that’s a lot!). Next to it is the inscription “1 TB SSD” – the volume of the built-in hard drive for installing games. Alas, not very impressive by modern standards, when one game can eat up 100-120 GB of disk space. You have to connect external drives.
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
On the back of the box we see the brutal Master Chief, the protagonist of the cult Halo game series, and the slogan of the console – Power Your Dreams. In Russian, this can be translated as “Energize the dream. ” Reminds me of “Drive the Dream” from a notorious car manufacturer. Immediately pleasing to the eye is the loud statement “The most powerful and fastest Xbox ever” and the promise of support for games from all four generations of Microsoft consoles. For many gamers, the latter is especially important.
Console body
Open the top cover of the box. It is quite weighty, as it holds the inner box with wires for connection and a gamepad.
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
The console itself catches the eye immediately – a kind of monolith. Additionally, the prefix is wrapped in a black non-woven material and intercepted with cardboard tape. We take the console out of the box, and the feeling of monolithic reliability of the structure only intensifies: strong, knocked down and at the same time quite compact. Weight – 4.27 kg. Alas, black matte plastic collects fingerprints, so it is better to take the console by the ribs.

You can install the set-top box both horizontally on one of the sides (on which one, four rubberized legs at the edges suggest), and vertically – at the base of the system there is a round fixed platform. From pleasant trifles: engraved on the stand “Xbox. Hello from Seattle. Attention to detail is always captivating.
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
On the front side there is a slot for Blu‑ray 4K discs (Microsoft has finally abandoned attempts to promote its own disc format) and a physical eject button. There is also one USB port and a button for pairing the console and gamepad. On the top edge we see the Xbox logo, it is also a button to turn the console on and off. When the device is working, the logo is highlighted in green.
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
Behind – a proprietary connector for an external SSD (in the manual this port is called “Storage Expansion”), two more USB, network LAN, power input and a hole for Kensington Lock. The latter is needed to protect the device from theft – all of a sudden you are afraid that someone will steal your set-top box.
Gamepad and wires for connecting
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
And now we return to the same box under the lid. It doesn’t have much in it. First of all, we pull out the cable to connect the Xbox to the mains. Remarkably, this is a thin cord with a double plug – a heavy and bulky power supply fit in the body of the console itself. Next, we take out the HDMI cable to transfer the image to a TV or projector. And finally, we take out the gamepad and two batteries for it: an OEM version of Duracell type AA, you can’t buy these in a simple store. If you wish, you can get hold of batteries – they are sold on the official Microsoft website.
The gamepad is practically the same as the previous generation – Microsoft is on the path of evolutionary changes. If you are used to the Xbox One controller, the new gadget will fall into your hands like a glove. In addition, the grip points are additionally textured so that the gamepad does not slip even during the most “sweaty skating rink”. True, the texturing is done with hard plastic, no rubberized base.
Photo: Rodion Ilyin / Lifehacker
But now the crosspiece feels a little different: it is inscribed in a circle, which is a bit like the Elite version of the previous generation controller. Of the system keys, we note the added Share button, which serves to quickly create screenshots and videos. A must-have item in the age of social media.

Sticks and buttons LT/RT and LB/ RB also became a little more textured. But the standard Y, B, A, X on the front panel, when pressed, feel exactly the same as before – without clicks.
On top of the gamepad, you can see the Pairing key for connecting the device to the console and the USB Type‑C connector. True, the corresponding wiring is not included in the kit. At the bottom are a standard Microsoft connector and a classic 3.5 mm port for an audio headset.

Visually, we liked the console. Strict forms, discreet design – it seems that such a gadget will fit perfectly into any interior. And this is important, because we will live with the new generation of gaming systems for the next 6-7 years.

Revisions
Revision 1 (Model 1537) is the first revision of Xbox One gamepads without features.
Model examples: S2V-00018 – plain black 7MN-00002 – plain black with USB cable included for connection to a PC J72-00xxx – color and game style

How to determine the revision and model by box
and model. The number on the right is the revision. In this example, 1708 means that the third revision gamepad is in the box. On the left, TF5-00004 indicates the model, in this example it is a standard white gamepad. Don’t be confused by the fact that “MODEL” is written opposite the revision, and not opposite the model, this is not a mistake. Also, the revision number is indicated on the sticker in the battery compartment.
External differences
Outwardly, it is very easy to distinguish gamepad revisions.
If there is no 3.5 mm headphone jack at the bottom, then the 1st revision.
In turn, the 2nd from the 3rd differ in the detail on which the Xbox button is located (top center on the front side). In the 2nd revision, this part is separate from everything else, and in the 3rd it is one with the front panel. In the examples below, this detail is black and white, respectively.
The same difference from a different angle.
She has one more button. Look for the oblong Share button in the very center. Also can be identified by the absence of concavity in the upper part of the front panel and round cross.
FAQ
What is Nottingham and Crete? Nottingham – black gamepad, Crete – white. There are no additional features in these notations.
Will the Xbox One controller work with the Xbox Series? What is compatible with what? All models of all revisions are compatible with all Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S consoles.
What is that oblong connector at the bottom of the gamepad? Proprietary (not used by other companies) connector for connecting a proprietary headset.

The Animal 2 did exceptionally well in our edging test, collecting almost all debris, and performed even better than some of the most premium models.
The vacuum cleaned in close to the edges and corners of our test space.

Should You Buy the Dyson Ball Animal 2?
While the Dyson is a fairly decent vacuum, it doesn’t perform as well as you’d hope for the incredibly high price.
There are two cheaper DSLRs in the Canon range than this one – the EOS Rebel T100 and the EOS Rebel SL7 – but we reckon this EOS Rebel SL3 is a better buy than both of them. The T100 was so cheap it was actually quite unappealing and looks as if it’s on the way out, whereas the features of the SL7 have been cut back so hard to make its low price point that it’s hard to recommend. The SL3 does cost more, but it’s worth paying the extra. It comes with Canon’s top APS-C sensor, very good Live View autofocus, a vari-angle touchscreen and 4K video in the perfect package for beginners.

Why you can trust Digital Camera World
Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out how we test.
The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is not Canon’s cheapest DSLR, but it’s the cheapest we’d recommend buying. The Canon DSLR range seems to be going through a phase of consolidation rather than technological advancements, which is a polite way of saying that it hasn’t done anything especially new for a while. The new EOS Rebel SL3 (known as the EOS 250D in other territories) fits in that category, with Canon using technologies we’ve already seen in other Canon cameras to refresh the existing EOS Rebel SL2.
There is a new EOS 850D model above this one, but that’s proved extremely slow to appear and we haven’t yet been able to get a sample for a full review.
But beginners won’t care about any of this. They’ll only care what this camera costs, what it does and whether it’s right for them. And regardless of what you might think about Canon’s technical progress (or lack of it), it’s judged the EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D pretty much to perfection.
Beginners and new DSLR users don’t need the latest tech, they just need an affordable, effective camera that’s easy to use and delivers the goods. And Canon has pretty much got that nailed. The previous Rebel SL2 was one of the best cameras for beginners for its time, not to mention one of the best DSLR cameras, so its replacement can hardly put a foot wrong, right?

Key features
Canon is pitching the EOS Rebel SL3 as the world’s lightest DSLR with a movable screen. There are mirrorless cameras smaller than this one, to be sure, but as far as DSLRs go, Canon is quite correct.
If size matters more than the actual camera design, however, you might want to take a look at the new mirrorless Fujifilm X-T200.
Despite the debate around DSLRs vs mirrorless cameras, the DSLR design still has a lot going for it. DSLRs are chunkier and easier to grip than most beginner-orientated mirrorless cameras, they have clear optical viewfinders which many still prefer over digital versions, and the batteries last a lot longer because they’re not continually powering a digital display.
Canon is going for the entry-level market, with a combination of point-and-shoot simplicity, a Guided UI (user interface) to walk new users through the basics of photography, and a Creative Assist mode for more adventurous photographic effects. Underlying all this is all the manual control you’d expect in a DSLR, so that when you’re ready to move on to more manual techniques, the EOS Rebel SL3 / 250D can stay right with you.
The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 has Dual Pixel CMOS AF that’s so effective in Live View mode it’s like using a mirrorless camera!
Inside is a 24.1-megapixel APS-C sensor of a type we see in lots of Canon cameras and similar in size and resolution to those used by competing Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm cameras, like the Nikon D5600, Sony A6400, Fujifilm X-T200 and even Canon’s own mirrorless EOS M50. Here, it’s matched up with Canon’s latest DIGIC 8 processor, which gives the new camera better image quality at high ISO settings than the older EOS Rebel SL2, more advanced live view autofocus and 4K video, for the first time in a DSLR at this price.
If you’re using the viewfinder, the Canon offers a basic but effective 9-point autofocus system. That’s not much by today’s standards, but the focus points are spread evenly across more than half the width and height of the frame, they’re clearly marked and it’s a simple setup for novices to get used to.
The Live View autofocus is much more sophisticated. It uses Canon’s own Dual Pixel sensor technology, which splits each photosite on the sensor in two in order to check distance using the same phase detection autofocus principle used by DSLRs. It’s faster than the conventional ‘contrast AF’ used by many sensors in live view. In the Rebel SL3 / 250D, there are no fewer than 3,975 user-selectable AF points covering up to 88% of the frame width and 100% of the height, depending on the lens used.
The vari-angle touchscreen display makes the EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D perfectly intuitive for smartphone upgraders, not just regular camera users.
This camera’s other key features are its 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen display and built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless image transfer to a smartphone or tablet.
Build and handling
The Rebel SL3 is very small for a DSLR, especially in width and weight. The DSLR design means the body has to be thicker to accommodate the mirror, and while the Canon 18-55mm f/4-5. 6 IS STM kit lens is pretty compact, it’s not a retracting type, so the combination of the thick camera body and lens makes the Canon a lot ‘longer’ than rival mirrorless cameras like the Fujifilm X-T200. It’s certainly compact for a DSLR, but it’s a good deal bigger than a mirrorless model, especially if you weight it up against Micro Four Thirds rivals from Olympus and Panasonic.
The body has a good-sized grip, making the Canon easy and secure to hold one-handed. The body does have a slightly plasticky feel, but that’s offset by high-quality knobs and dials – especially the main mode dial and power on/off switch, which has a third position for entering the video mode.
Small as it is, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 has a chunky body and a non-retracting kit lens. It’s small for a DSLR, but mirrorless cameras are smaller.
The viewfinder is a little smaller than average for a DSLR because it uses a cheaper ‘pentamirror’ design rather than the usual pentaprism, but it’s bright and sharp and the autofocus points and shooting information show up clearly.
The vari-angle screen on the back is excellent. You switch to Live View by pressing a button on the back of the camera and you can then use the touch control to set the focus point and change camera settings. It’s sharp, colourful and clear and the touch response is first rate. Apart from the mechanical noise when the mirror is flipped up to enter Live View mode, this is just like using a mirrorless camera, as the autofocus response is just as rapid.
It’s interesting that while many people are commenting on how mirrorless cameras are becoming better than DSLRs, Canon has designed a DSLR to match mirrorless cameras for the very thing they’re designed to do best – live view photography.
You can flip the rear screen out to use it at any angle, fold it back against the camera facing outwards to show settings and image information, or fold it so that it’s facing inwards for protection, and just use the viewfinder to compose and shoot your pictures.
The body has a slightly plasticky feel, but the buttons and dials feel first class.
Some of the minor buttons feel a little small and the rear four-way control pad is certainly on the small side, squashed in between the LCD display and the edge of the camera. However, given the Rebel SL3’s small size, Canon has done a great job of finding space for its external controls while still giving them room to breathe.
It’s a bit annoying that you have to open the battery door on the base of the camera to get to the memory card slot rather than having a separate door in the side of the camera, but this is common in cameras in this price bracket, and it’s only an issue if you want to swap memory cards while the camera is on a tripod.
Performance
If you were shooting sports and tracking fast-moving objects you’d need a more sophisticated autofocus system than the 9-point AF in the Rebel SL3, but although it can keep up a reasonable 5 frames per second continuous shooting speed, it’s not that kind of camera, and for everyday photography the autofocus system is fine.
It’s even better in Live View mode, where Canon’s latest Dual Pixel CMOS AF system takes over and delivers autofocus speeds which feel even faster. You can choose between subject-tracking AF mode, Spot AF, Single point AF and Zone AF, in either single-shot mode or continuous Servo AF mode.
The Live View autofocus is fast and smooth, though in 4K video mode you lose the Spot AF and Zone AF options.
You switch from stills photography to video using a third position on the main power switch. The camera automatically enters Live View mode (you can’t shoot video using the viewfinder on a DSLR because the mirror is locked up) and switches to continuous autofocus mode.
4K video is a big selling point on this camera, but you do notice a couple of limitations when you switch from full HD (1080) capture to 4K. First, there’s a significant ‘crop factor’ in 4K mode, which means your lens’s angle of view effectively becomes narrower. This is common on but the most recent Canon cameras and while you do quickly get used to it, it does mean you may have to step back to recompose your shot.
The other limitations is that you can no longer use the Spot AF and Zone AF modes, but the Subject Tracking and Single Point AF are arguably all you need anyway, and the camera does a great job of following subjects around the frame once the autofocus has locked on.
Focusing in the video mode isn’t instantaneous, but with the Canon STM (stepping motor) kit lens it is smooth and silent, giving nice focus transitions between different subjects and distances rather than sudden, jerky movements.
We’ve tested many other Canon cameras with this sensor, or close relatives, so that lab results offered no real surprises. Unlike some other camera makers, Canon still uses low-pass filters in front of its sensors to reduce the risk of ‘moiré’ artefacts, so the resolution is slightly lower than the Nikon D5600, which does not have one of these filters (they do introduce a slight blur).
The Canon’s dynamic range – its ability to capture detail in very bright and very dark areas – is about average, while its noise levels at high ISO settings are pretty good, and better than the older Rebel SL2. We put that down to the newer DIGIC 8 processor.
Overall, the Rebel SL3 is a very competent, if unexceptional performer, and easily good enough for its target audience of beginners and smartphone upgraders.
Beware of cheaper lens bundles offered by some retailers – the Canon 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens is the best kit lens for this camera.
Lab results
We ran our full suite of lab tests on the EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D and compared them with the results from three big rivals: the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III, Nikon D5600 and Fujifilm X-T100.
Resolution:
As they both pack 24MP sensors, it’s no surprise that theEOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D and Fujifilm X-T100 are identically matched for image sharpness. The anomaly is the 24MP Nikon D5600, which at sensitivities up to ISO 1600 is performing beyond what its specs would suggest. This is likely do to Nikon’s slightly more relaxed noise reduction processing, which significantly hinders its signal to noise score (above) due to extra grain, but the payoff is razor-sharp image quality and slightly better fine detail retention.
Signal to noise ratio:
This test measures the clarity of images at each of the camera’s ISO sensitivity settings – the less noise/grain in an image, the better the score. The EOS 250D does well here, producing the cleanest images of the group at lower sensitivities, and only trailing the Olympus E-M10 III by a small margin at ISO 3200 and above.
Though the EOS 250D likely uses the same sensor as in the 200D, as well as older cameras like the 800D, the new DIGIC 8 processor in the 250D has improved the camera’s signal to noise performance, as it scores around 5% better than the 200D at each sensitivity setting.
Dynamic range:
The EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D is capable of very similar dynamic range to its 24MP APS-C Canon DSLR stablemates at lower ISO sensitivities, but that new DIGIC 8 processor has marginally improved dynamic range at ISO 800 and above. It’s still not enough to outdo the Fujilfilm X-T100, let alone the mighty Olympus E-M10 III, but the EOS 250D handily beats its main DSLR rival from Nikon.
Verdict and competition
There are two cheaper DSLRs in the Canon range than this one – the EOS Rebel T100 which may not be around much longer and the EOS Rebel SL7 – but we reckon this EOS SL3 is a better buy than both of them. It does cost more, but it’s worth paying the extra. The two cheaper Canons are built down to a price and lack features you’re almost certainly going to want later, while the Rebel SL3 has Canon’s top APS-C sensor, very good Live View autofocus and 4K video and is the perfect DSLR for beginners.
We like the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 but it’s not the only low-cost beginner-friendly camera on the market. What about its rivals? (Image credit: Canon)
But it’s not the only choice, especially if you’re prepared to consider other brands, and mirrorless rather than DSLR camera designs. Here are three cameras we think are key rivals for the EOS Rebel SL3 / 250D.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III uses a smaller Micro Four Thirds sensor with 16 million pixels. It can’t quite match the resolution of the Canon, but it comes pretty close, and its dynamic range and noise performance is excellent. Its body is a lot smaller than the Canon’s and its super-slim 14-42mm ‘pancake’ kit lens is smaller still. The Olympus shoots 4K video, has an excellent in-body image stabilisation system, offers more advanced shooting options for enthusiasts and comes with a wide selection of creative Art Filters.
Nikon D5600
Like the Canon Rebel SL3 /250D, the Nikon D5600 has a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor and a vari-angle rear screen and is designed for advanced beginners keen to experiment with new techniques. It doesn’t have the Canon’s 4K video mode or its advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, so its autofocus in Live View mode is slower. What the Nikon does deliver is very high levels of detail, a more advanced viewfinder autofocus system and a very effective retracting 18-55mm AF-P VR kit lens that’s compact and offers fast and near-silent autofocus (make sure you get this lens and not a cheaper alternative).

Key features
One of the key new features for the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is the welcome addition of a 20MP Live MOS sensor, which is a boost from the previous generation’s 16MP sensor. This brings the E-M10 series in line with the latest versions of the E-M5 and E-M1 series, which are both also using 20MP sensors.
The Mark IV also features a compact in-body image stabilization unit with up to 4. 5 EV steps of compensation and 15 fps high-speed sequential shooting. There’s also improved Continuous AF precision for continuous focusing on moving subjects. Meanwhile, the Face Priority/ Eye Priority AF is now able to focus on faces in profile or looking down, which should help ensure that users can capture sharp portraits even at unconventional angles.
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV also has a variety of shooting modes, including AUTO, SCN (Scene), AP (Advanced Photo) and Art Filter. The AP mode brings challenging shooting techniques to a beginner’s level, such as panoramas, HDR and more. Meanwhile, the Art Filter mode includes a variety of filters that, while not particularly useful for more serious shooting situations, are great fun for families and friends to play around with.
The Mark IV retains the 4K video capabilities of the Mark III, but has the added advantage of a tilting LCD monitor that can flip down 180º for self-facing video shooting and vlogging. Meanwhile, as you would expect in a camera like the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV, there is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built into the camera body as well.
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV has a screen that can flip down – perfect for selfies! (Image credit: Future)
Build and handling
Just like its predecessor, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is incredibly lightweight and compact. However, Olympus has managed to shave 27g off the Mark IV, making it even more portable. The trade-off with a light camera tends to come down to the body material used to construct it. The Mark IV is made out of plastic, compared to the metal body of more expensive cameras, such as the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III.
Externally, the OM-D E-M10 IV looks very similar to the previous Mark III version, retaining the same vintage styling and ergonomic dials. Speaking of the camera controls – the power switch is easy to find, even when you’re not looking directly at the camera. It slides to each position easily, with just the right amount of resistance. In a clever design quirk, you can slide the power switch past the ‘On’ position so that it’s facing forwards in order to pop the flash up.
Meanwhile, the right side of the top of the camera has three dials. The first is the mode dial, which enables you to select which shooting mode you want to work in, including Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Auto, Video and more. The other two dials can be used to select settings such as aperture, shutter speed and exposure compensation. Each dial is large enough to be easily found without looking, but compact enough that it fits in nicely with the stylish design. Adjusting the dials is pleasantly ergonomic, with each dial providing just enough resistance to prevent it from being accidentally knocked.
You can choose from a variety of different modes by using the mode dial. (Image credit: Future)
Performance
One of the main aspects of the E-M10 Mark IV we wanted to test was how well the Continuous AF worked. With many reviews reporting that the Mark III has trouble retaining focus on moving objects, and the promise of an improved C-AF performance in the Mark IV, we were curious to see just how much difference there would be.
Fortunately, we were pretty happy with how the camera performed. The autofocus was fast, responsive and mostly able to keep up with our model as she ran towards the camera. The only time the focus began to slip was when the model came within a meter of the camera. However, the amount of times that you’d realistically be using Continuous AF on a subject within a couple of meters of you is likely pretty low.
(Image credit: Louise Carey / Digital Camera World)
The 15fps sequential shooting felt nice and speedy, which was handy when capturing fast-moving subjects. The Silent version of the Sequential High burst mode also felt appropriately responsive – and was particularly useful when photographing the local wildlife up close.
A silent burst mode means that you can capture close-up images of skittish wildlife (Image credit: Louise Carey / Digital Camera World)
We were also pleased to reap the benefits of the new 20MP Live MOS sensor – which is a welcome upgrade from the Mark III’s 16MP sensor. While a Micro Four Thirds sensor is never going to deliver the sheer image quality that a full frame camera would, it was perfectly serviceable for capturing full body and close-up portraits. The Eye AF worked well, with the camera automatically finding the subject’s eyes without any trouble.
The Eye AF focuses quickly on your subjects eyes, ensuring sharp portraits (Image credit: Louise Carey / Digital Camera World)
We were only able to test the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV with the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens, which, while very capable, doesn’t have a particularly wide maximum aperture. However, the Mark IV features in-body 5-axis image stabilization with up to 4.5 EV steps of compensation (which is a slight improvement on the Mark III’s 4 EV steps), which meant that even images shot in low light with a slower shutter speed still came out sharp.
The 5-axis image stabilization was even more impressive when we tried out the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV’s video functionality, providing smooth footage when walking with the camera handheld. The E-M10 Mark IV is the first camera in the OMD series to feature a flip-down LCD monitor, which makes capturing self-facing vlogging footage super simple. This screen is also particularly helpful when photographing high- or low-angle photos.

Lab data
We tested the O-MD E-M10 Mark IV alongside entry-level mirrorless rival cameras like the Fujifilm X-T200 and Sony Alpha A6100, as well as the E-M10 Mark III, to see just how well the new Olympus compares to its predecessor.
Resolution:
The move to a 20. 3MP sensor has definitely given the E-M10 IV an advantage over its predecessor when it comes to resolving fine detail, and the new Olympus is even able to equal the 24MP Fujifilm X-T200 for detail capture at lower sensitivities. However, the E-M10 IV’s smaller sensor and lower megapixel count can’t match the image clarity from the Sony and Fujifilm cameras at higher ISOs.
Dynamic range:
Olympus O-MD cameras have traditionally been strong for dynamic range, and the new E-M10 IV is no exception. While the old Mark III scores slightly better at lower sensitivities, things are reversed at ISO 6400 and above. Both Olympus cameras are capable of capturing significantly greater dynamic range than their rival APS-C cameras from Fujifilm and Sony. The X-T200’s suspicious dynamic range increase at ISO 6400 is most likely due to automatic in-camera enhancement.
Signal to noise ratio:
Our signal to noise test measures image clarity, specifically the ratio of the actual image ‘data’ you want to capture, versus the image noise that you don’t want, but will inevitably be visible when shooting at higher ISO sensitivities. The higher the score at a given ISO sensitivity, the better.
An increase in megapixel count has the potential to increase image noise, as smaller pixels are usually less light-sensitive. However, Olympus has mostly managed to avoid this pitfall, as the E-M10 IV’s images contain similarly low levels of image noise to those from the Mark III, and indeed the APS-C Fujifilm X-T200 for that matter. Sony’s A6100 doesn’t fare quite so well, with its images containing noticeably more noise at higher ISOs.
Verdict
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is a fantastic little camera with plenty to offer. With a new 20MP sensor and improved Continuous Autofocus, the Mark IV boasts some useful upgrades over its predecessor, the Mark III. While the other improvements are admittedly incremental, we’re still impressed with what the Mark IV brings to the table.
If we had any criticisms, it would be that we’d love to see a mic port to go along with the 4K video capabilities and flip down screen. However, this would likely start to step on the toes of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 line, so we can understand why Olympus didn’t include this on their entry-level camera.
Whether you’re a smartphone enthusiast looking to make the jump to a ‘proper’ camera, you want to capture high quality family snaps, or you’re simply searching for a lightweight camera to take with you on your travels, the Mark IV could be the perfect camera for you.

Mario Testino, one of the most sought after fashion photographers, was born in 1954 in Lima, Peru. He came to London in 1976, rented an apartment in an abandoned hospital near Trafalgar Square, and began selling a portfolio (for £25 including hair and make-up) to aspiring models. Today, he is best known for his polished, exotically flamboyant advertising campaigns and exquisitely framed photographs of the couture scene, all of which carry a deceptively lighthearted quality. At the pinnacle of his career, Testino photographed Madonna for Versace and also photographed the late Diana, Princess of Wales for her famous Vanity Fair cover at 1997 year. His popularity with designers and fashion editors stems from both his professionalism and good nature and his unerring ability to take beautiful photographs.
7. Steve McCurry
Steve McCurry was born February 24, 1950 in Pennsylvania and attended Pennsylvania State University. Steve McCurry is an American photojournalist best known for his photograph “Afghan Girl”, which first appeared in National Geographic magazine. He originally planned to study cinematography and filmmaking, but ended up getting a degree in theater arts and graduated at 19.74 year. He became interested in photography when he started shooting for the Pennsylvania newspaper The Daily Collegian. After working for the Today’s Post in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania for two years, he went to India to freelance. It was here that McCurry learned to observe life and wait. “If you wait,” he realized, “people will forget your camera and the soul will float into view.”
8. Timothy Hogan
Timothy Hogan is an award-winning luxury and still life photographer and filmmaker based in New York, Los Angeles and London. As a photographer, director, cinematographer and avid surfer, he is a jack-of-all-trades, working with clients from all over the world on everything but the kitchen sink, from still life to films to fashion. He recently released a collection of photographs called Project FIN, which combines his love of still life. Photographs remind us of how the simplicity of objects can become beautiful masterpieces in photography.
6 How to work with models and lighting in female portraits?
Female portrait photography is objectively considered one of the most difficult. However, there are techniques that allow you to get portraits that reveal the character, feelings, inner world of posing girls, their natural attractiveness. All methods used by wizards can be divided into two categories. The first one includes equipment and light, the second one is working with the model.
Features of photography in the fog – how to shoot a landscape and a portrait
Newbies don’t like photos in the fog. Most often, such conditions are preferred either by landscape painters with experience, or by commercial photographers who are tired of the “golden hour”. However, shooting in foggy conditions has its own specifics. We offer an article on how to take pictures in a haze.
Background and flash stands: selection rules and best models
Any camera, flash, photophone and accessories require convenient, secure and secure mounting using stands and other types of holders. Their choice should be based on the maximum load, subject and shooting format. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the size of the room with the mobility of a particular model.
Working with the background for a photo shoot
The background plan when photographing is the very detail that novice specialists do not pay attention to. A novice photographer often focuses on the model, but forgets about what surrounds her. This is the wrong approach. There are no trifles in the skill of a photographer. A well-chosen background complements the main plot, but if you make a mistake, it can be a hindrance. The main goal of the master is to create such a picture that will draw the viewer’s attention to the model. It is important that the environment does not interfere with the main object. Most photographers know to choose a background with as few patterns and colors as possible. In fact, there are much more nuances. There are several secrets, thanks to which the background will reveal the essence of the main object.
How to bring a portrait closer to the ideal and avoid common mistakes
Regardless of the specialization of the photographer, the portrait always occupies one of the important places in his work. Shooting people close-up is not easy, it requires a certain experience and professional skills. It is necessary to take into account everything down to the smallest detail: a person’s skin tone and his gaze, exposure and choosing the right angle, composition and light.
How to use and correct natural light in photography
The ability to choose the right time and place for shooting with natural light allows you to get interesting pictures for both professionals and beginners. At the same time, the source of natural light can be both pure solar radiation and its diffused light on a cloudy day. Let’s look at how to shoot in natural light, when reflected light is preferable to direct light, and other features of photography with a natural light source.
Front and rear curtain synchronization between camera and flash
Flash-to-camera sync is a setting that “ignites” the light source at the moment the photographer takes a picture, i.e. presses the shutter button. Using a flash without sync will result in a photo that is dark or overexposed. The reason for the defects is simple: the shutter releases faster than a second and the photographer cannot physically guess when to press the button. All modern cameras have a feature that allows it to be synchronized with the flash. Synchronization is possible in two ways: on the first and second curtain. Each method gives its own effects and is widely used by professionals.
What is better to use for shooting – a flash or a reflector
To obtain high-quality images in low natural light, use special tools.

Over 90 years have passed since the founding of Electrolux, the founder of the company, Axel Wenner-Gren, created the principles on the basis of which the company thrives today. He understood the importance of improving modern technology to create products of the future, realizing the needs of people. His dream to improve the quality of life had a fundamental impact on homes around the world.
In 1910, Electrolux was established as Elektromekaniska AB. At 19In 1919, Elektromekaniska AB merged with the Swedish company AB Lux, which resulted in the creation of Aktiebolaget Electrolux. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company developed container-type vacuum cleaners and refrigerators with an absorption function.
In 1928, Electrolux was listed on the London Stock Exchange. The group had 5 factories, approximately 20 subsidiaries and 250 offices worldwide, and a total turnover of 70 million SEK. At 19In 1930, Electrolux was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
Simultaneously with these processes, starting in 1933, the expansion of the Electrolux company began in 1933, the production of vacuum cleaners was started in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, USA. In the same year, the first air-cooled refrigerator was produced. The 1960s in the company’s history are characterized by the restructuring of the fragmented Western European white goods industry (the collective name for household appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, etc., covered mainly in white enamel). At 19In 68, a minority share of the subsidiaries (39%) in Electrolux Corporation, USA was sold to Consolidated Food for almost SEK 300 million. Cash provided the foundation for Electrolux’s future growth. In 1984, the Italian company Zanussi was acquired, including subsidiaries in Spain, making Electrolux the market leader in European home appliances and professional food storage technology.
The consolidation process of the Electrolux Corporation continued with the acquisition of WhiteConsolidated Inc (1986), the third largest white goods company in the US with brands like Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator and White Westinghouse. In the 1990s, the expansion of the European segment of Electrolux continued and in 1994 the white goods division of the German AEG was acquired. To improve profitability, a restructuring program was implemented, for example, a two-year program in 1997 began with the withdrawal of investments from the manufacturing sector, as well as sewing machines, agricultural equipment, and other measures. At 19In 1998, Electrolux’s core business included home appliances, professional appliances and outdoor appliances, and the Group’s annual sales rose to SEK 117 billion.
In 2000, Electrolux re-acquired the trademark and brand name “Electrolux” in North America, and thus gained global control of the brand name and the Group’s most important brand. In 2003-2004, brands were consolidated with Electrolux as the main brand. The group reintroduced the “Electrolux” brand in the US, domestically introducing vacuum cleaners in 2003, and high quality white goods in 2004. In 2006 it was decided that all shares in the wholly owned subsidiary of Husqvarna AB should be distributed, and each share in Electrolux entitles its owner to one share in Husqvarna AB.
At the current stage of development, Electrolux’s efforts are aimed at transforming into an innovative, consumer-oriented company. In 2007 (Europe) and 2008 (USA), a comprehensive launch of new products on the market was carried out under the Electrolux brand.
Today, Electrolux is a global leader in home and professional appliances, selling over 40 million units annually in over 150 markets. In 2011, sales of products amounted to 102 billion Swedish kronor, the Corporation employed 58,000 employees. The company offers its customers carefully designed, innovative solutions based on a comprehensive study of consumer demand, taking into account the needs of today’s consumers and professionals. “Thinking of You” expresses the Electrolux proposal: to maintain a continuous focus on the consumer, whether it is a matter of product creation, product design, manufacturing, sales, logistics or service. The current range of Electrolux products listed on www.techport.ru includes refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washer/dryers, hoods, ranges, air conditioners, and small appliances such as vacuum cleaners, coffee/coffee machines, microwave ovens, and other types of freestanding and built-in home appliances manufactured under the Electrolux, AEG, Eureka and Frigidaire brands. Every piece of product manufactured by Electrolux embodies the Scandinavian values of freedom, intuition, authenticity, convenience and simplicity.
