gamescom 2017: Pre-Order the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Now
Consoles
by Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer •
Today we unveiled the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition designed for fans who want to be the first to experience the world’s most powerful console – and it’s available for pre-order now for $499 USD until supplies run out.
When we announced Project Scorpio last year, we were overwhelmed by the excitement from our fans. And although we revealed Project Scorpio as Xbox One X at E3 earlier this year, the codename will live on in the Scorpio Engine that powers the console, as well as in this limited edition console. We designed the Project Scorpio Edition for fans to celebrate both our heritage and the power and precision that we are bringing into our future.
The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition features a custom design with the words “Project Scorpio” printed on the console and the controller and we’ve incorporated a sophisticated and dynamic graphic pattern across the exterior. Fans who have been with us since the very start of Xbox will notice the packaging is inspired by the original Xbox. The Project Scorpio Edition also comes with an exclusive vertical stand so you can choose how to display it in your home.
We’ll only have a limited number of Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition consoles, and they will only be available as part of this pre-order. Get them now before they’re gone forever by pre-ordering from your local retailer, including Microsoft Store or Microsoft.com.
We are counting down to the launch of Xbox One X later this year and look forward to getting the world’s most powerful console into the hands of our fans. With 40 percent more power and 60 percent more memory for game developers than any other console, get ready to experience immersive true 4K gaming. Your games play better on Xbox One X and blockbuster titles look great, run smoothly, and load quickly even on a 1080p screen. And excitement and developer commitment for Xbox One X has grown since E3 and, to date, more than 100 new and existing games will be enhanced for Xbox One X to take advantage of its full power.
Xbox One X also works with all your existing Xbox One games and accessories and we’re thrilled to welcome it to the Xbox One family of devices joining Xbox One S. For fans looking for the best value in gaming and entertainment, Xbox One S continues to deliver and we just announced two new bundles joining the ranks – the Xbox One S Shadow of War bundles and the Xbox One S Minecraft Limited Edition bundle. Both Xbox One X and Xbox One S are built to take advantage of 4K entertainment, too, and include an Ultra HD Blu-ray player, 4K video streaming and HDR for videos and gaming.
Xbox One X Scorpio Differences Explained
By
Ana Dumaraog
Microsoft releases a slew of information regarding their upcoming high-powered console, the Xbox One X: The Project Scorpio Edition at GamesCom.
Xbox One X will release a limited-edition Project Scorpio iteration when the console drops this fall. The high-end version of the Xbox One is set to roll-out in the fall and is already available for pre-order, as well as its recently announced special iteration.
Officially announced back in June during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Microsoft has been teasing the new console for quite some time now. Initially dubbed as most powerful console ever, it is geared towards those who are looking for a new gaming device that would provide 4k resolution and supersampling in order to fully take advantage of the graphical upgrades on high definition display games. Interestingly, before it was officially dubbed as Xbox One X, it had the code name Project Scorpio.
The reveal that the Xbox One X will have a special edition called the Project Scorpio when it hits the shelves was made during Microsoft pre-Gamescom briefing subsequently followed by the release of an official statement (via Kotaku) from the Redmond-based multinational technology company regarding the two consoles:
“When we announced Project Scorpio last year, we were overwhelmed by the excitement from our fans. And although we revealed Project Scorpio as Xbox One X at E3 earlier this year, the codename will live on in the Scorpio Engine that powers the console, as well as in this limited edition console. We designed the Project Scorpio Edition for fans to celebrate both our heritage and the power and precision that we are bringing into our future.”
So technically, what is the difference between Xbox One X and the limited release Project Scorpio? According to Microsoft, the latter will sport an aesthetic resembling the original Xbox plus with the addition of the cool-looking green colored name of the system on its front, as well as, a gradient design. Further, a special controller which will have “Project Scorpio Edition” also in green lettering will also be included in the package. Other than these cosmetic changes, there seem to be no significant differences between Project Scorpio with the standard Xbox One X with their internal hardware mostly identical. If anything, the $499 (same price as the 1 TB Xbox One X ) device is only for those die-hard fans of the console line who want to acquire a unit of the one-off variant.
Some of the games that would benefit from the players’ upgrade to the new Xbox One X or Project Scorpio include Halo 5 and Gears of War 4, as both titles will get free 4K upgrades in the future in light with new console’s in-system 4K and HDR capability. Moving forward, around 100 existing games are also expected to undergo the same treatment.
Those who are already pondering whether to get the upgraded console, regardless if it’s the standard Xbox One X or Project Scorpio, but worried about transitioning from their old system to the new one need not worry as the switch is said to be very straightforward. Microsoft has explained that anything from the external hard-drive can be easily swapped over to the new hardware. Games, on the other hand, can be simply copied via the in-home network.

The display of a player who did not pick up any spells.
While playing on the Helltower, players equipped with a fireproof secret diary, compendium, or brand new spellbook will be able to cast spells that appear when moving minecarts, after killing an enemy, or during the Witching Hour. Spells are very different from each other, from throwing the player into the air to invisibility. Regular spells can not only be found while advancing the cart or after killing an enemy, but they can also appear in a random place during the Hour of the Witches. Rare spells can be “dropped” by the player after crossing the bridge during the Witching Hour, after killing the Skeleton King, or can be found in Hell. All rare spells have only one charge and unlock the achievement Helltower: Infernal Spells when used. All spell effects are team-colored and each spell has its own kill icon.

Firestorm : Launches a fireball that, upon impact with the surface, causes meteors to fall into the landing area, which in turn is approximately 1.5 times the size of the capture point, dealing heavy damage to enemies. When using this spell, the character says “seismela tremoro”.
Shrink : Shrinks the player and enlarges their head, making them harder to hit. While small, movement, attack, and reload speeds are greatly increased. When used, the player has infinite jumps similar to the ghosts in Hell and switches to third person. Another character can get into mouse holes by teleporting to the other side of the map. When the spell is cast, the character says “paidum celeris”.

RCA cables or connectors being known to everyone are a collection of 3 cables to carry analog audio & video signals. These were named so after Radio Corporation of America, which was the pioneer to introduce these RCA designs in the early 90’s. In the present era, people rarely use RCA cable because, with the evolution of time, computer devices have also revolutionized.
These RCA cables’ primary function is to connect peripheral devices like the VCRs, DVD players, etc., to computers, TV screens, or any other output device. But the use of these RCA cables is confined to limited no. Of devices. While USB cables can be used with any kind of peripheral device. People preferred to use USB cables instead of RCA for many factors such as speed, performance, working efficiency, port feasibility, etc.
USB cables being used more frequently are replacing the use of RCA cables. The latest editions of computer devices even don’t have any RCA sockets. USB cables also carry the audio & video signals, same as RCA cables, but these carry signals in a digital form, unlike RCA if you require a USB adapter cable but don’t have any USB cable, no worries! You can make it on your own too.
One may also think the why it is required to convert pre-existing RCA cable into USB adapter cable. The quick answer is that; you may need to attach a DVD player or any other equipment like that with your Computer, but the Computer you are using may not have any RCA socket, then you need to attach a USB adapter to enable RCA cables to work efficiently. USB cables perform the transmission of digital signals, or you can say a USB cable carries USB data.
A USB cable adapter act as a gateway between the conversion of analog signals to digital signals. Because the whole process involves this conversion, one end of the USB adapter connected with RCA cables receives the analog signal from RCA. The USB adapter converts it to digital signals on the other end of it, which is connected directly to the computer device via a USB port. Then in Computer, these digital signals are interpreted as digital data.
So, if you have any old RCA cables, you can reuse these by converting them into a USB adapter cable. The RCA to USB converting process required deep technical knowledge. If you are the one searching for “how to make RCA to USB cable,” then here you can go through the following procedure to convert an RCA to USB cable. But it should be noted that to practice the stated procedure, you must also be familiar with the basic working of electronics. This is not a thing that everyone can do.
How to make RCA to USB cable
Creating an RCA to USB is more complicated than it may appear, so we don’t advise that you try your hand at making an adapter or a converter cable, simply because USB is more nuanced than you assume because there is more than meets the eye.
The RCA works on analog signals, which have to be converted to digital before it is sent through the USB. You will require a complex digital integrated circuit to convert the signals to work with both the RCA and USB. Constructing such an IC using discrete components is not a feasible DIY project, so leave it to the professionals.
The easiest way to make your device compatible with RCA cables to use a USB adapter. You can simply buy an RCA to USB converter with the functionality of both RCA & USB cables. You would need a USB adapter with 3 sockets on one side, in which you can plug in RCA connectors individually, and at the other end, it will have a USB connecter that can be attributed to a USB-supported device. The other end of RCA cables can be linked with audio hardware.
The other choice is to use a prebuilt RCA to USB cable instead of attaching a USB adapter interface between RCA cables and a computer device. This is the most feasible way and the cheaper one to implement. But the cost is dependent on length limitation.
Suppose if you need a cable of shorter length, then you can definitely go for this option. But, in case if you require a cable of longer length, then it will cost much to implement this method. To meet the need for a longer cable, it is far better to make your own RCA to USB by using a USB adapter, as we have explained earlier.
How to Convert RCA to USB Adapter Cables – Video Guide
Conclusion
So, here we can conclude from the above-stated info that a simple conversion can reuse the RCA cables. If you are one having spare RCA cables, you can easily convert them to USB cable to carry & transmit digital data. You would have 2 choices to adopt in this regard: either you can buy a prebuilt RCA to USB cable or create your own USB cable.
The process of making your own USB adapter cable is quite technical, but you can achieve the desired result by similarly following the procedure as explained. Both choices are feasible in their own way, as the conversion cost depends on the length of cable required to meet your requirement. You can opt for the effective one.

Film may have largely disappeared, but the photograph is sticking around. We’ve covered the best instant-printing cameras that use Fujifilm’s Instax technology for the past year or so. They produce Polaroid-style prints, but there’s another option: Zink printing.
Zink is short for “zero ink.” It eliminates the annoying need for (and running out of) ink cartridges in your printer. Instead Zink prints hold layers of ink in the paper itself. When the image prints, a pressure-based process mixes the ink around to produce the image. Zink produces more traditional prints that look like what you’d get from a professional printer (without the professional quality), instead of the Polaroid-esque big-bordered pics of Instax cameras.
Zink printers are slower than Instax to spit out your images, but they’re done the minute they emerge. They’re also sticky-backed. Zink prints tend to have better dynamic range—meaning there is a broader range of color and tone in the image—compared with Instax prints, but they struggle to produce the rich blacks you get in Instax prints.
Since the technology is basically the same across all of these devices, you’d think the results would be similar, but we found a surprising amount of variation when we tested different cameras and printers. Below are our top recommendations for Zink-based cameras and printers.
Kodak
Best Overall (Dual Camera + Printer)
Kodak Smile Classic
Kodak’s newest offering, the Smile Classic brings instant-camera nostalgia to the present with a design that’s reminiscent of Polaroid, but sleeker and slimmer. It spits out larger, 3.2 x 4.5-inch prints with a white border that gives them a much classier look than the smaller images Zink devices usually print. It has a nice fixed-focus 2-mm f/2.2 lens and a 10-second self-timer button, though no selfie mirror.
The Classic can also do double duty, serving as a printer for your phone. Connect via Bluetooth to the Kodak mobile app and print anything from your device. Its larger print paper is more expensive but worth it. The added printing flexibility and excellent lens make the Classic our favorite Zero Ink camera and printer.

Best Photo Quality
Kodak Smile Instant Print Digital Camera
The Kodak Smile produced the best images of all the Zink cameras we tested. It’s simple, compact design makes it easy to take with you, and the sliding on-off mechanism prevents you from accidentally snapping images in your bag. The 10-megapixel sensor isn’t the best we tested, but it’s more than capable of producing quality 2 x 3-inch Zink prints. The fixed-focus lens can be limiting, but it’s in keeping with the Polaroid’s instant-camera tradition of fixed-focus images.
The image results are great. Combined with other niceties—like an LCD viewfinder for reviewing images and a built-in editor for tweaking images before printing—make the Smile the best choice for most people looking for a Zink camera.

HP Sprocket Photo Printer
If you don’t need a camera, and just want to print the images you take with your phone (or even DSLR for that matter), the Sprocket Photo Printer offers the best results. It’s roughly the size of a phone—a little larger than the cameras on this list, but not by much. The Sprocket connects with iPhone, iPad, or Android phones via Bluetooth, and its mobile app lets you edit and customize your photos before printing. There’s also an option to tile your images onto multiple prints for a larger, pieced-together image.
The printed results are the best of all the devices we tested and have deeper blacks than other Zero Ink printers and cameras.

Polaroid Mint Instant Print Digital Camera
The Polaroid Mint Camera and Printer combo is a stylish, well-designed little package (just slightly bigger than a deck of cards) available in a variety of colors. The vertical orientation isn’t always what you want, but it mirrors how most of us shoot with our phones.
Its 16-megapixel sensor is also notably better than our top pick, and the selfie mirror is helpful, but Mint has a huge limitation: Everything prints, even the duds. If you want to review your images, the Kodak above is the best choice. If you’re OK with printing everything, the Mint produces great results.

Canon Ivy Cliq
The Canon Ivy Cliq (see our full review) is a pocket-friendly, super simple camera with no digital nonsense to get in the way of snapping images. You can add a MicroSD to save photos, but the Ivy Cliq is best when you keep it simple—point, shoot, print.
The plastic case feels a little cheap, though it did fine rattling around in my bag all day. The big downside to the Ivy Cliq is that, unlike the top pick, which allows you to review images before printing, it also always prints, whether you want to or not. The results aren’t quite as nice as what the Polaroid Mint produces, but this is a close second.

An Extra-Compact Printer
Polaroid Mint Wireless Mobile Printer
The Polaroid Mint Mini Printer is nearly identical to the camera, it just lacks the camera features. Instead you get a highly portable printer that’s very simple to use and produces nearly identical results to the camera. The HP Sprocket produces slightly better prints to my eye, but if you want to save a little money and still get 90 percent of what the Sprocket offers, the Mint Printer is a good choice. Polaroid’s phone app is slightly more intuitive than HP’s app, but it lacks the option to select multiple prints at a time.

Kodak Smile Instant Digital Printer
If you don’t need the camera, Kodak’s Smile Printer offers a great way to get prints off your phone. It’s virtually identical to our top pick, the Smile Classic dual camera and printer. It just doesn’t have a camera. Instead, it connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone and prints images from your phone. The printed images are on par with what you’ll get from the camera version. If you tend to edit and tweak colors on your phone, you can get better results from this than the camera, which has no editing features onboard.

A True Photo Printer
Canon Selphy Compact Photo Printer
The Canon Selphy isn’t a Zink printer. It uses dye sublimation, which means you will eventually have to buy ink. It also produces 4 x 6 prints of a much higher caliber than Zink is capable of creating. In a way, it’s completely unfair to compare this to Zink printers, but because it shares the roughly $100 price, we think it’s an alternative worth exploring if you’re willing to trade portability for larger, higher-quality prints.
The Selphy is portable, but it certainly won’t fit in your pocket. It will, however, produce prints roughly on par with what you’d get from the machines at your local drugstore.

Don’t Buy These …
Zero Ink Printers to Avoid
Zink technology is pretty uniform across devices, but that doesn’t mean they’re all good. We don’t like Prynt’s Classic or Pocket printers which only work with iPhones. They print just fine, but they cost more—and if you switch away from iPhone down the line, you’ll need a printer too.
Similarly, there are numerous no-name brand zero-ink printers out there. Some of them may be fine, but they’re generally more expensive than the name-brand options here. We suggest sticking with names you know and prices around the $100 mark for the best combination of value and quality.

The best instant photo printer you can buy right now
Instant photo printers are sort of the quieter, less-cool sibling of instant cameras, but they’re arguably more practical. They don’t quite tap into the nostalgia-fueled fun of pulling out an Instax camera at a party, but they’re a more versatile means of getting to the final product: a real, live photo print you can touch and feel. In an age where virtually all of our photos live in digital storage on our devices or on social media feeds, a physical print is kind of magic.
There are plenty of ways to turn the photos on your phone into physical prints, but most of them involve waiting for shipping or finding a kiosk in a brick-and-mortar store, both of which are terrible prospects. Mobile photo printers eliminate the wait — they’re small enough to be carried in a purse or a bag so they can go where you go.
Our top pick, the Polaroid Hi-Print, isn’t exactly the most portable, but it produces the best color and print quality by far. It’s still small enough to fit into a larger purse or bag, but refill cartridges are on the bigger side and are definitely not going to fit into an evening clutch. For better portability and fun social event-friendly features, we like the Canon Ivy.
We tested instant printers that produce smaller 2 x 3-inch or 2.4 x 2.4-inch photos. There are also compact printers that work with bigger 4 x 6-inch photo paper which are better suited for scrapbooks or frames, and different small size formats, like Fujifilm’s wide Instax. But for the purposes of this guide, we stuck with the two options mentioned. All of our picks come with free iOS and Android apps that you’ll need to download in order to use them, and they all worked without problems on both platforms.

Polaroid Hi-Print
The best instant photo printer
The Polaroid Hi-Print is unique because it’s actually a mini dye-sub printer, which is the technology most bigger color photo printers use. It applies yellow, red, and cyan layers in three separate passes. While this happens, the printer’s companion app indicates what’s going on, and you can watch the print move in and out of the printer as different color layers are applied. It’s not the retro fun of watching an instant photo print develop in front of your eyes, but it’s neat. It also results in high-quality prints with rich, accurate color and good contrast. There’s some banding in areas of solid colors if you look really closely, but it’s only visible from about a foot away — much closer than you’re likely to view it.
The Hi-Print app is also very straightforward and easy to use. There’s no way to sync up your Google Photos or social accounts for direct access; if that’s a priority, you’ll want to look at the Zink printer options below. There are also just a few “sticker” options to apply to your image preprint, but the text typefaces are the best-looking among the printers I tested. They made me want to put funny text on my photos. There are also standard color and exposure adjustments available, along with some colorful frames that, like the text options, surprisingly don’t suck.
Print refills include an entire cartridge that produces an unfortunate amount of waste.
One does not simply add more photo paper to the Hi-Print, either. Each refill is actually an entire printer cartridge with a spool and everything. Each one includes 10 sheets of photo paper ready to go, and they’re sold in boxes of two — so 20 prints per package. The photo sheets come with a little detachable tab on the bottom, so you can grab the photo out of the printer without putting your fingers on the image. You can also have a peel-off backing to make your photo print a sticker.
Unfortunately, the Hi-Print’s system makes for a lot of plastic waste. Every time you add a new cartridge, you have to take the old one out and throw it away. (Polaroid’s support page says the company can’t recycle them for you, and my local curbside recycling guidelines rule it out since it uses more than one kind of plastic.) It’s a shame that you can’t reuse it in some way. The cartridges are also much larger than a pack of Zink or Instax paper, so it’s not the most practical option if you want to carry a lot of paper refills with you.
The Hi-Print produces vivid, accurate colors.
Another downside is that this is a proprietary print format — unlike Zink, which is used by many different mobile printer brands. If Polaroid decides to stop making the Hi-Print, you’ll be stuck with a printer that doesn’t work.
The Hi-Print is also more expensive than other mobile printers. The printer itself costs $100, and a single 20-sheet refill pack costs $17. (Though, at the time of this writing, you can find a three-pack of refills for $50 on Amazon.) That makes the price per print around 85 cents. That’s much higher than the Zink alternatives, which are more like 50 cents per print.
The Hi-Print isn’t the best choice if you’re looking for ultra-portability, an abundance of fun stickers, or the very best cost per print. But the prints are much better than the other options we tested. The text options you can apply to images are modern and fun, and the app is very easy to use. If print quality is a priority, then the Hi-Print is your best option.
Fujifilm Instax Square Link
$139
The Instax Square Link produces instant photos in an instantly recognizable, classic format. Instax Square photo paper is a little pricier than Fujifilm’s standard, credit card-shaped instant format, and the Square Link has a few gimmicky features that most people won’t use regularly. But for instant prints on true photo film sheets, it’s hard to beat.
$140 at B&H Photo$139 at Target
Fujifilm Instax Square Link
Best Instax photo printer
The $140 Instax Square Link uses Fujifilm’s square format film sheets. Like the instant cameras of yesteryear, the Square Link’s prints develop over the course of a few minutes once they leave the printer. They’re not as big as traditional 3 x 3 Polaroids, but this format is about 1.5x larger than the standard Instax Mini film used by most of Fujifilm’s instant cameras and printers.
Instax film delivers rich blacks that Zink printers can’t match, and the Square Link’s default Bold print setting produces pleasantly rich colors. But quality comes at a price: photos work out to about 90 cents each. If you want to do a lot of printing and quality is less important, take a look at our Zink printer recommendations below.
Instax Square prints are good, nostalgic fun.
The Square Link companion app for iOS and Android is more straightforward to use than the Mini Link 2’s. There are a few gimmicks, like an AR print mode that will display doodles, animations, and text on your photo when you scan a QR code. But overall, there are fewer gimmicky features than on the Instax Mini Link 2, which is just loaded with them.
If you want to capture some of the nostalgia of instant photography along with the convenience of a mobile printer, you can’t beat the Square Link. It’s not the cheapest way to print photos by a long shot, but it’s a lot of fun, and the resulting photos are of good quality.

Canon Ivy
The best Zink photo printer
The best mobile printer for parties and social occasions is the Canon Ivy. It takes commonly used Zink paper, and it offers the best photo quality of the Zink printers we tested, with good color reproduction. Its companion app also appears to get timely updates with appealing, seasonally appropriate new “stickers” to apply to photos. When I used the app in late July, it had been updated recently with Pride and Juneteenth art by illustrator Sabrena Khadija.
The printer itself is slimmer and more portable than the Instax or Hi-Print, and it’s more cost-effective, too. The printer retails for $99.99, and 50 sheets of paper cost $24 on Amazon at the time of this writing, working out to about 50 cents per print.
Color accuracy is good, and the sticker options are fun.
I did encounter one problem during testing: using an iPhone 11 running iOS 15.6, the app crashed every time I tapped on the option to connect my Google Photos account. This worked fine on Android, so it seems to be an iOS-specific problem. If you’re an iPhone owner and you rely on Google Photos for image storage, then I wouldn’t recommend the Ivy. I didn’t have any problems accessing photos stored on the iPhone itself or connecting to my Instagram account, which is probably how most iPhone owners would want to use the printer anyway.
Otherwise, the Ivy is a great option for someone looking for portability and value over the best possible print quality.
HP Sprocket

The HP Sprocket’s photo quality isn’t quite the best in the Zink class, but it is portable and cost-effective with a good companion app experience.
$77 at Amazon$80 at Best Buy
HP Sprocket
The best cheap instant printer
We considered two Zink printers for this category, the Sprocket and the Kodak Step, both of which are products licensed by C&A Marketing. The $80 HP Sprocket comes out ahead but not by a lot. Print quality is okay, but the printer adds some unattractive sharpening and brightening that looks like a bad HDR effect. It probably won’t bother most people, but if photo quality is a priority, the Canon Ivy is a better choice. But overall color reproduction is acceptable on the Sprocket, and I can’t say the same about the Kodak Step, which adds way too much red to images. You can correct this by adjusting the cyan / red slider in the app, but you need to do this before every single print.
Photo quality isn’t as good, but the Sprocket represents the best value.
The Sprocket has some nice features, too. The onboarding and initial setup that the app takes you through is helpful and clear. Plus, you have the opportunity to rename the printer as it appears in the app and decide which color the printer’s indicator light will glow. It’s not quite as slim as the Canon Ivy, but it is small enough for a large clutch-style purse. A pack of 100 photo sheets retails for $45 on Amazon at the time of this writing, so the cost per print is under 50 cents. If you aren’t too picky about photo quality, then the Sprocket is a good deal.
“Printed” cakes and chocolate: Russian scientists have created a 3D printer for making food with improved properties printing” of high-value food products. The goal of the development is to create food products enriched with vitamins, micronutrients and antioxidants, which are becoming less and less in conventional products. Scientists have already tested the printers, and they managed to get dough and chocolate, but further – more: the specialists plan to create artificially grown meat on the printer without losing its useful properties.
The problem of the lack of important macro- and microelements in ordinary food today has reached unprecedented proportions: manufacturers are increasingly replacing familiar products with industrial analogues, and many people suffer from a lack of elements necessary for the normal development of the body. Scientists are confident that this could lead to massive “hidden hunger” around the world.
Eating well is very important, as it provides the opportunity to live an active and healthy life. However, being full is not enough. Even with a normal diet and sufficient calories, “hidden hunger” can occur. This is a form of malnutrition, which is caused by a monotonous and unbalanced diet.
“Hidden hunger” is characterized by the consumption of predominantly starchy foods, rice, wheat and corn, sugar and fats; such a diet is now relevant for more than a third of the world’s population because of the cheapness and feeling of satiety. Foods that contain starch do not have enough vitamins, iron, iodine, zinc, selenium, other beneficial macro and micronutrients and important nutrients, leading to serious health problems.
From the shadow of covid into a global problem
In 2021, according to the international media Project Syndicate, it was COVID-19 that brought the concept of “hidden hunger” out of the twilight. For example, the coronavirus pandemic has significantly affected the lives of the people of South Africa, and the problem was not only the shortage of food rich in nutrients.
Income, which affects getting enough calories and adequate nutrients, has taken a backseat during the pandemic. The fact is that in South Africa, hunger was the result of a lack of access to normal food. Limited access to nutritious food in low-income areas, as well as the high cost of energy for food storage and preparation, and the lack of access to land for home-grown food production, have had a devastating effect. 47% of South Africans simply ran out of money to buy the food they could afford before the pandemic. Strict controls in the era of coronavirus, lockdowns, curfews, job losses, rising prices have all led to “hidden hunger”, not only in South Africa, but in many other parts of the world.
The pandemic has also made it clear that the consequences of “hidden hunger” can be detrimental to human health, namely, to its immune system. People who ate poorly, or ate normally, but foods without the necessary nutrients, fell ill with covid and fell ill with other serious viruses and infections are more likely. Among other things, the pandemic has highlighted the close link between the course of COVID-19 and the most serious disease of “malnutrition” – diabetes. Data from Cape Town, for example, shows that people with covid who had diabetes were four times more likely to be hospitalized and three times more likely to die due to COVID-19.than patients who did not have diabetes.
The pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity and highlighted the severe effects of hunger, but has also provided an opportunity to find potential solutions to increase access to healthy food. So, against the backdrop of a disruption in the supply of food, in the same Africa, local food systems began to emerge, supply chains between small farmers and the population, “people’s restaurants” serving daily subsidized healthy meals, vegetable and fruit shops, farmers’ tents, food banks and other. This all helps to support the income of local producers and the health of the local population, since most of the government food packages distributed to locals turned out to be of zero nutritional value.
“Hidden hunger” has previously been more common among the poor, and the initiatives mentioned above are working. However, today scientists are sounding the alarm, because every year the percentage of people who lack nutrients in their food is increasing, and no longer always depends on the person’s wealth or the availability of food. We again return to the fact that mass food producers, unfortunately, often do not monitor the adequate amount of nutrients in food.
Healthy food in a healthy body!
In order to solve the problem of “hidden hunger” and its consequences, in addition to attracting local farmers and subsidized food banks, scientists from all over the world are trying to find another, more massive and convenient solution.
For example, Russian scientists from the All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after N.I. Vavilov proposed to fight “hidden hunger” with the help of an actively developing strategy of biofortification, or biofortification – a set of measures to improve and increase the content of essential substances in the main food sources through selection and the use of fertilizers with the necessary composition. Employees of the institute in their work spoke about the potential of grain crops to produce varieties with a higher content of target compounds necessary for a healthy and safe diet.
From biofortification to “printing” of cakes and chocolate
In solving the problem of “hidden hunger”, scientists from the Moscow State University of Food Production (MGUPP) have moved even further. The specialists decided that the production of alternative food using 3D printers and farms would significantly reduce the negative effects of starvation and lack of nutrients. Food created on a 3D printer can be enriched with the missing components so that the necessary macro- and microelements are better absorbed in the human body.
3D printers are devices that allow you to create three-dimensional objects based on digital models, printing a digital model layer by layer using special plastic. Scientists from MGUPP experimented a little with a conventional printer and created one that can “print” food at the cellular level. Farms with 3D food printers are already producing experimental food with might and main, and students and graduate students, in addition to collecting devices by hand, are establishing production technology.
“Food printers” differ from conventional ones in that they are modified with food raw materials instead of plastic ink. Relatively simple components are inserted into the printer: chocolate, dough and puree masses, with which you can make cakes, pancakes, chocolate or other desserts.
Soon, scientists are planning to artificially grow meat. The process will be a little more difficult, but no less interesting. First, the meat will be ethical and popular due to its production technology. Secondly, scientists plan to use the biopsy method – they will pinch off a piece of tissue from animals without injuring it, isolate cells from it, which will be propagated in special bioreactors. This step will take about a couple of months. Next, the specialists will prepare raw materials for the printer: they will print a special plant-based substrate, apply living cells to it, alternating layers of animal and plant materials. This happens with the help of a nozzle – a device with one or more calibrated spray holes, which allows you to print both cellular material and plant fibers.
Aleksey Kuchumov, Vice-Rector for Research and Development at MGUPP, says that the university has created a unique revolver-type extruder – a conical nozzle at the end of the printer tube that regulates the outgoing stream of raw materials. Inside there is a drum, different raw materials are fed into it. This allows you to speed up the production process and use as few parts as possible.
The “bioprinting” technology used at the university is unique: it allows you to create a product that a person needs for health reasons and tests, working according to a given digital model. Bioprinting has an applied value in specialized nutrition, and with its help people can get a personalized amount of missing vitamins, microelements, and antioxidants. Someone lacks magnesium, someone lacks iron, and these components can be included in the composition of “printed food” to make up for the deficiency in each individual person. You can take dietary supplements and other pills, but it is enriched foods that increase digestibility and benefit the human body. Now scientists are working on a database of smart recipes that will serve as instructions for a 3D printer, like a recipe book for a chef. With everything else, the printer also performs the function of a refrigerator or freezer with different setting temperatures – it is designed in such a way that the necessary climatic environment will be formed for each type of raw material: from temperature to humidity.
The university is also opening a laboratory for the production of “cultured” meat, together with 3D Bioprinting Solutions, which provided bioprinters for researchers.
Healthy food printing machine made from 99% domestic materials. In the future, this food production technology can be used as the basis for vending machines that will print products or dishes according to the customer’s order if the machine is installed in an office or shopping center.
Now the production of “printed” products is estimated as an expensive process, but soon scientists hope to find solutions in order to reduce the cost of production of the same cultured meat and equalize its cost with natural.

The battlefield is the kitchen. What European kitchen manufacturers did not foresee in the US
An article about the fate of the European premium kitchen market and attempts to establish itself in the US was published on August 14, 1995 in the American Forbes
In Europe, designer kitchens are a profitable business, but in the US European kitchen manufacturers are facing enormous challenges. In European homes, kitchens have usually always been small and cramped rooms almost the size of a mop closet, and kitchen appliances were made as if for dwarfs. But in recent years, Europeans have begun to show interest in neat cabinets, cooking zones and American-style large kitchen appliances.
Advertisements in major European cities often list only the number of bedrooms and the name of the kitchen manufacturer, such as Poggenpohl, allmilmö, SieMatic or Bulthaup. All of them sell expensive kitchen sets, and in terms of fame and popularity they can be compared with fashion houses such as Versace, Armani and Hermès. In such headsets, all structures are highly durable, and there is simply no unused and useless space. They have folding shelving, moisture-resistant clay bread bins, polished metal countertops, special flexible hinges, thanks to which the doors open almost 180 degrees, and even a dishwasher elevation to make it easier to put and take out dishes. Locker doors close with a thud, just like the doors of Mercedes cars. The regular price for all this is about $35,000, not including installation.
Germany is the largest single market for high end kitchens in the world. The total sales volume here reaches $1.5 billion a year. Given the difference in population, the German market for premium kitchen sets is six times larger than the similar American one. Unfortunately, now fewer and fewer Germans are equipping their homes, besides, the population of Germany, like any other developed country in Western Europe, is steadily declining.
The only solution in this situation is the export of European kitchens to the United States, because there the market for sets of the upper price segment is growing rapidly. This is due to the fact that Americans, and especially those over 50, are updating their kitchens, it would seem, for the first time after buying in the distant 50s. But in reality, not everything is as simple as it sounds. The fact is that manufacturers from Germany are faced with an unexpected problem: the kitchen business in the United States cannot move away from the old fashion for handicrafts.
In 1995, Americans spent about $750 million on kitchens worth more than $15,000. Three dozen small local manufacturers and companies from Canada and Europe account for at least 60% of this figure. This prosperity of local businesses is due to the fact that architects and interior designers charge extra for designing kitchen sets from scratch and then producing them by local craftsmen. And for the recommendation of ready-made headsets, for example, Poggenpohl, no one, of course, pays anyone.
Three of Germany’s biggest manufacturers, Poggenpohl, SieMatic and allmilmö, have been trying to boost sales in the US by supplying their headsets in bulk to premium housing developments. Most of the $500,000-plus apartments in similar developments in Florida now have kitchens made by European companies. But this way to earn a lot of money fails. Building contractors achieve very low purchase prices, making currency fluctuations difficult to deal with. At 1993 Poggenpohl received large orders in Florida. But with the growth of the German mark in 1994, the company could only enter into sales contracts at a loss. In 1995, the company began to curtail its cooperation with construction companies.
Poggenpohl, allmilmö and SieMatic opened exclusive showrooms of their own products in several major US cities, but neither company had sufficient funds to expand the American network on the same scale as in Europe. The Germans also considered selling kitchens through large retail chains such as Home Depot. But sellers in them could not always sell kitchen furniture to a visitor for $35,000.
Gerd Bulthaup believes that Bulthaup, founded by his father, will be able to achieve significant success selling kitchens for more than $50,000 to wealthy residents of Hollywood or Wall Street. Bulthaup himself has opened a showroom in Los Angeles and plans to open another soon in New York’s upscale Soho neighborhood. The head of the company explains: “[In the US] you can find your buyer, like, for example, Hermès did, selling ties and positioning itself as a snob at the very top of the market.”
All four German companies reported a 15% increase in sales in the United States in 1995 (calculated in then-weak dollars). But combined, their sales in the US hardly exceeded $50 million. However, the worst is yet to come. Italy’s leading kitchen furniture manufacturer, Boffi, a Milan suburb, has opened its first American showroom in New York City. One of the kitchens of this manufacturer is exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art, and Boffi themselves are called Armani in the world of kitchen furniture. This company is notable for something else: it does something that the Germans did not even think about – it presents an inexpensive entry-level model. Her $10,000 AluKit headset looks pretty and is easy to assemble.
Lower prices will undoubtedly shake up the range of manufacturers, but it is likely that the American market is simply too tough for European companies. James Bucky, president of Madison, Wisconsin-based Sub-Zero, which makes refrigerators that have become standard equipment in America’s most expensive kitchens, said: “Europeans make very aesthetically pleasing and well-engineered kitchens. But as it turns out, it’s very difficult for Americans to change their idea of the ideal kitchen.”
And what about the Europeans themselves? We’ll find out about it very soon. U.S. premium kitchen leader Rutt Custom Cabinetry of Goodville, Pennsylvania boasts $15 million in sales. The company sells traditional solid wood kitchens that are simple in design and far removed from modern interior design trends. According to President Jerry Price, the company is so inspired by the success in the fight for a buyer with the Germans that they plan to start exporting to Germany.

Tampa: looking for a job in the city. Where to start?
Tampa is one of the cities in the US that attracts workers from all over the world. Why? work, which means they pay accordingly, and a low cost of living compared to other cities in Florida. To find a job in the city, the applicant must follow simple steps. Step 1. Choose a field of activity.First, you need to figure out what your previous profession is called in the USA and whether additional certification is required to be employed. For example, for jobs such as truck drivers, employees must have a CDL class A. Therefore, even if you had experience in transportation, in addition to it in the United States, you must have a special driver’s license. 2. Choose how to search for vacancies If the education and experience meet the requirements of American employers, then the search should begin with job markets, through recruiter services or the professional social network LindedIn. Otherwise, Ukrainians without education and experience, Russians without an immigrant visa look for ads on Russian-language bulletin boards, Facebook groups and Telegram channels. These are excellent offers for the first earnings, which give the opportunity to work both part time and full time. Step 3. Make an employer check. Do not rush to send a resume if you have found an attractive position, but you do not know anything about the employer.

The Arlo Pro 4 is our pick for the best smart security camera on the market, thanks to supreme smart home integration, 2K video resolution, affordable cloud storage, and no base station. It’s not a cheap or perfect camera. But after testing it for a few weeks, we think it strikes the best balance of advanced features and price compared to other high-end cameras like the Google Nest Cam† and the Ring Spotlight Cam.
It’s a great option for folks looking for a high-end outdoor camera.

Amazon. com list price as of post date. Read full disclaimer.
Arlo has consistently appeared in our lists of best cameras over the years because the brand consistently makes products that perform exceptionally well in terms of quality and connectivity.
It can be pricier than competitors like Reolink, but if smart home options are important to you or you’re an Apple user, Arlo has more options to connect with.
It’s also got impressive motion zone customizations and the widest field of view (160°) of cameras we recommend. Motion zones let you cut down on motion alerts by ignoring busy areas like sidewalks or a bus stop near your house. And if you want to cover a wide area, a bigger field of view will help you do that with fewer cameras.
Video quality and recording options
Video quality
The Arlo Pro 4 has great video quality, thanks to a 1440p (2K) video resolution, which is better than the 1080p on most other security cameras. Videos were clear with a lot of detail, making it easy to identify objects, animals, and people in the frame.
One of the Arlo Pro 4’s best features is its night vision in color and infrared modes. The color night vision uses a built-in spotlight to light up subjects near the camera when there’s motion. It’s useful for getting a little more detail, but it’s not as discreet as the infrared night vision setting.
We noticed a delay between an action and when it shows up during a live video stream. The delay depended entirely on our internet bandwidth, so you shouldn’t have problems with a speedy internet connection.

Custom spotlight settings
You can customize the spotlight’s brightness and behavior to suit your needs. We like that the light can flash or pulsate as a warning (even better with Arlo Pro 4’s built-in siren). Still, the constant light setting is also helpful for lighting your path at night.
Field of view
We appreciate the Arlo Pro 4’s 160º field of view, which is much wider than a typical security camera (around 130º on average). Such a broad perspective outdoors means less cameras needed for an area like a backyard—saving you money and hassle.
Although the field of view is great for capturing a lot of detail, you can adjust it in the app to 125º or 110º—both of which can work well for recording video indoors.
There’s also an option to automatically zoom and track people moving in front of the Arlo Pro 4, which is more helpful outdoors when subjects are farther from the camera. We prefer to turn this setting off indoors because it can be jarring with closer objects.

Adjustable video brightness
You can adjust the brightness of the video for different situations. While the camera’s night vision performed best with maximum brightness, a lower setting during the day helps avoid washing out the video’s color.
Unfortunately, the brightness doesn’t automatically adjust as needed, so we recommend choosing a medium brightness so you don’t need to change settings often.
Recording options
To record video with the Arlo Pro 4, you can switch between three settings:
Standby turns off all recording, but you can still record videos when viewing a live stream.
Arm Away allows the camera to record video whenever there’s motion when you’re not home.
Arm Home is useful for arming outdoor cameras and disarming indoor cameras based on your preferences when at home.
Arlo Secure subscription
Most of the Arlo Pro 4’s best features are available only when you pay for an Arlo Secure plan subscription. Despite costing more than most competitors, Arlo’s cloud storage plans holds their own against offerings from Ring and Nest.
Features included with Arlo Secure
Arlo’s cloud storage keeps video clips for up to 30 days before deleting them. This is usually more than enough to download important clips you want to keep longer. Arlo recently removed the five-camera limit on its pricier plans so you can have as many as you like. This huge improvement helps Arlo compete better on cloud pricing with Nest and Ring.
Arlo’s cloud storage organizes your clips by date on the Library tab. Screenshot: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Activity zones allow you to specify areas the camera should ignore when tracking motion. These help focus the camera on high-risk areas like doors, hallways, and windows. These are easy to set up, but the controls can be imprecise on smartphone screens, so using a tablet or logging into your Arlo account on a web browser is a better option.
Here are Arlo Activity Zones as they appear on a web browser. Screenshot: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Smart notifications can help you identify a person, animal, or vehicle. Unfortunately, they weren’t always accurate during our tests—at first, they alternated between dubbing the cat a person and animal, but became more reliable over time (with the camera farther away).
Two versions of Arlo Secure
We like that Arlo allows you to pay around $5 a month for a single camera, but the unlimited cameras of the $12 plan is a no-brainer if you own three or more Arlo cameras.
Features included with Arlo Secure Plus
Arlo Secure Plus is the most expensive camera-only Arlo plan ($17.99 a month) and adds Emergency Response. This unlocks one-touch access to fire, police, and medical assistance in your area via the Arlo app.
Features included with Arlo Safe and Secure Pro
Arlo Safe & Secure Pro ($24.99 a month) is best for folks with the Arlo Home Security System. While 24/7 professional monitoring is the main draw, we like the thoughtful inclusion of video verification to help reduce false alarms. With video verification, the monitoring center can check your camera’s live feed after an alarm to see what’s happening at your home.
This plan also includes access to Arlo Safe—a personal security app for your smartphone. Arlo Safe is most useful when outside the house because you can quickly request help if you feel uncertain about your surroundings.
Arlo Pro 4 battery life
The battery life on the Arlo Pro 4 is quite good for a wireless camera but decreased by around 50% over a couple of weeks. We suspect that part of this decrease was an unreliable Wi-Fi router that dropped connection multiple times a day, which likely made the Arlo Pro 4 use more power trying to reconnect.
Arlo offers three power management options in the video settings menu:
Best Video uses more power to provide better video quality.
Optimized tries to balance power consumption and video quality.
Best Battery Life uses less power at the expense of video quality.
We don’t think it’s possible to get a full six months out of the battery like it says on the box—even under more stable conditions. Our first two weeks of testing used the Optimized setting and after that we put it in Standby. After about two months, we had to charge the battery.
Your rechargeable battery will likely be partially charged before setup, but we recommend topping off the charge during and after setup before mounting your Arlo Pro 4.
No power adapter included
Keep in mind that the unit doesn’t come with a USB power supply for the charging cable, so you need to provide your own to charge the battery. We first attempted to charge it via a laptop USB port, but the computer popped up a message saying there wasn’t enough power for the camera.
Arlo mobile app and notifications
There are plenty of customization options in the mobile app, so we spent an hour or so tweaking settings and familiarizing ourselves with the app. Overall, the app has an intuitive interface, but not all of the settings are easy to find at first glance. Arlo divides many settings across multiple menus, especially ones for individual devices. You’ll get the hang of it after a day or two.
Live video feed
The live video feed in the app is easy to use and has a lot of helpful controls along the bottom. With these controls, you can record video, take a photo, turn on the integrated spotlight, turn on the audio, and use two-way audio to talk with people through the camera’s speaker.
Here’s the Arlo Pro 4 live video feed with controls along bottom. Photo: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Motion and audio alerts
The Arlo Pro 4 was almost too effective when we first tested motion alerts. We picked a window frequented by our test cat—a deluge of notifications prompted us to disable notifications until we found a way to reduce motion sensitivity.
The motion sensor in the camera works independently of the video settings. We adjusted it in the Device Utilities menu under Motion Detection Test. After lowering the sensitivity (under 50% in our case), the notifications were less frequent, tracking only large movements.
Arlo can also send audio alerts when the camera detects sound, but you’ll likely never use the audio-only setting. The default arming mode uses motion and audio detection, and there’s not much reason to use them separately.
My Arlo online portal
You can also log into the My Arlo portal in a browser to control your cameras and change settings. It has the same features as the Arlo mobile app but with a slightly different layout for computer screens. It’s definitely worth using if you want to set up activity zones.
Arlo smart home compatibility
Arlo has some of the best smart home compatibility among security cameras, which extends to the Arlo Pro security cameras. Out of the box, you can expect Arlo Pro 4 to work with four smart home platforms: Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant†, IFTTT, and Samsung SmartThings. By linking your Arlo account to one of these platforms, you can make your camera work alongside other smart devices.
Apple HomeKit compatibility
If you buy the optional base station, Arlo Pro 4 gains smart home compatibility with Apple HomeKit.
Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
Arlo Pro 4’s functionality with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is essentially identical. The most convenient feature is viewing a live video feed on a smart display like an Echo Show or Google Nest Hub. We especially like this for spying on the cat while working or checking on the kids in the yard.
If you don’t have a smart display, you can also watch a livestream on your TV using a Fire TV or Chromecast device, which are compatible with Alexa and Google smart speakers, respectively. Having a larger screen is a big bonus, and you can check your cameras between episodes to see if the kids are asleep.
You can arm and disarm the camera using voice commands or routines. This is great for when you’re out of the house. Here’s a routine you might try: set the camera to arm motion recording when you lock the front door and leave for the day.
IFTTT and Samsung SmartThings
IFTTT and SmartThings give you a little more flexibility in using your Arlo camera—mostly with how you set up routines to control devices. IFTTT is great for connecting Arlo to other devices and services that usually wouldn’t work with your smart home system. A good example is using other security cameras like Wyze and Ring with Arlo. This frees you up to use a variety of cameras for your home without sticking to one brand.
The best part about pairing Arlo with SmartThings is that you can link it to other sensors in your home. It helps the camera know to start recording if there’s motion just outside the front door or if a window opens that’s just out of the camera’s view.
Arlo setup, installation, and accessories
Setting up the Arlo Pro camera is straightforward and uncomplicated:
Download the Arlo app and create an Arlo account.
Put the battery in the camera.
Connect to Wi-Fi.
Adjust settings to fit your needs.
We had some trouble connecting the Arlo Pro 4 to Wi-Fi because it wouldn’t recognize the 2.4 GHz mode on our network, which normally uses a 5 GHz frequency. For a workaround, we connected the camera to a guest network that runs at 2.4 GHz (though we didn’t have any problems when setting up on a different router a couple of weeks later). Overall, this minor snag didn’t diminish the camera’s better qualities.
Installation
Installation is also relatively easy, thanks to a simple magnetic mount that attaches to a wall with a single screw. We recommend finding a wood stud for a little extra stability.
If the magnetic mount doesn’t work out, there’s also a spot on the camera’s back to attach to a standard tripod or a universal security camera mount.
We mounted Arlo Pro 4 on a tripod for our tests. Photo: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Accessories
Arlo makes some useful accessories to help you maximize your camera’s potential, but they are costly considering what you’re paying for:
8-foot indoor power cable (about $25)
25-foot outdoor power cable (about $50)
Extra rechargeable battery (about $50)
Battery charging station (about $50)
Solar panel charger (about $59)
Extra magnetic wall mounts (about $40 for a set of two)
Adjustable non-magnetic wall mount (about $20)
The most outrageous prices are Arlo’s proprietary magnetic charging cables, which cost more than double what a comparable USB cable would. We can bet that Arlo makes a hefty profit on its accessories in addition to its already expensive cameras.
Fortunately for Arlo, its accessories have excellent user reviews and durability. Other than wall mounts, use caution when buying third-party Arlo accessories, which could void your warranty or damage your camera. Still, it looks like there are some viable alternatives on the market if you don’t want to spend $50 for a spare battery.

Arlo provides an impressive number of articles on its support website that explain practically every feature in detail. We found it easiest to use the search bar for navigation. If you don’t find an answer in the support section, you can jump over to the Arlo Community forum for another self-serve support option.
Between the support site and forum, you have plenty of resources. In the rare instance where you need direct help, you can contact Arlo over live chat or open a support case.
We’re big fans of Arlo’s customer support approach. It provides comprehensive information to troubleshoot problems or learn about features without talking to an Arlo representative.
Arlo phone support
Arlo has a phone support option, but this is available only to paying subscribers or within 90 days of purchase. While it’s disappointing that this service isn’t free, we think that phone support works mostly as a last resort when other support materials don’t cut it.
Final word
If you want the best smart home features in a high-end security camera, Arlo Pro 4 is hard to beat. We love its video quality and endless settings because you can customize the camera to your liking without much fuss.
At $200, it’s a bit more expensive than most folks probably want to spend on a security camera, and the battery won’t last six months (contrary to Arlo’s claim). Still, we think that Arlo Pro 4 is a great choice for high performance where a cheaper camera might struggle.
Head over to our wireless security camera review to see how it compares to other top products—or see where it fits into Arlo’s lineup on our Arlo Camera Review.
Unlike the Arlo Pro 3, Arlo Pro 4 can connect directly to your Wi-Fi network, so using an Arlo SmartHub base station is optional. Adding a base station has three main advantages: better battery life, local video storage, and Apple HomeKit compatibility.
Improved battery life because the Arlo Pro 4 uses a more efficient radio frequency (than battery-hungry Wi-Fi) to communicate with the base station. The base station handles the Wi-Fi connection more effectively since it has a power cable instead of a battery.
Local video storage is possible because the base station has a port for a USB flash drive (or microSD slot depending on the model) for storing videos outside of the cloud.
Apple HomeKit compatibility on the Arlo Pro 4 works only when there’s a base station. This is a popular smart home platform for folks that use iOS devices.
Yes, live streaming, audio notifications, and motion notifications all work without an Arlo Secure Plan subscription.
The subscription’s paid features include video storage, activity zones, emergency response, and smart notifications (person, animal, vehicle, package, and smoke alarm detection).
If you connect the Arlo Pro 4 to a base station, you can add local video storage in lieu of cloud storage.

The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is one of the best security cameras you can buy. Reolink Argus 3 Pro easily matches our previous pick’s (Arlo Pro 4) video quality and beats its battery life. Plus, it really shines as the best solar security camera, thanks to an affordable solar panel add-on.
It lacks some standard features among the competition, like motion zones and a removable battery but is a solid alternative to big-name brands like Arlo and Ring. Learn how our hands-on testing revealed Reolink as a true contender, even though it’s a lesser-known brand.

Reolink Argus 3 Pro’s video quality and features
Video quality
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro blew us away during testing by producing some of the best video quality we’ve seen in a security camera. Argus 3 Pro easily matches the Arlo Pro 4 (our previous security camera pick) in terms of overall video quality thanks to sharing many of the same features like a luminous LED spotlight, 1440p video resolution, and wire-free operation—it even costs about $70 less.
Reolink Argus 3 Pro daytime video. Screenshot: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Reolink Argus 3 Pro color nighttime video. Screenshot: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Reolink Argus 3 Pro infrared night vision video. Screenshot: John Carlsen, SafeWise
We like the clear daytime and nighttime video this outdoor camera produces. We didn’t notice any big distortions in recordings and live footage when we tested it in different lighting levels. There was some lag when watching the live camera feed, but we’re confident it was our Wi-Fi connection and not the camera’s fault.
As nice as Argus 3 Pro’s video looks, the camera’s field of view is just 122º—narrower than the 130º average we see on cameras from Arlo and Ring. Compared to Arlo Pro 4’s 160º field of view, this camera may require a more intentional placement to capture the best view. Field of view is essentially the only place it falls behind Arlo in terms of video quality.
Spotlight
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro’s integrated spotlight is a nice way to bring color night vision into your nighttime recordings. It also does a great job of startling unsuspecting reviewers who forget to turn off motion triggering—a perk that should translate equally well to uninvited guests.
Reolink recording options
A few recording options are available on the Reolink Argus 3 Pro: motion, schedule, and time lapse.
Motion recording, but no motion zones
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Argus 3 Pro’s design is a dome-shaped infrared motion sensor just below the camera’s lens. This allows the camera to detect motion in complete darkness without relying on video-based motion triggers and infrared LEDs, which would drain the rechargeable battery quickly.
Although we like that you can adjust the motion sensitivity, the camera lacks one of the more helpful motion detection features of competitors: motion zones. We suspect that Reolink nixed motion zones in order to improve battery life—since they rely on video—but it’s still disappointing.
We love motion zones because you can set a camera to record only when there’s motion within a certain part of the video frame, like a door, window, or sidewalk. This is great for ignoring passing cars or overactive pets patrolling the house.
Despite lacking motion zones, the Reolink Argus 3 Pro’s motion recording can differentiate between people, vehicles, and other motion. This is helpful because you can choose to ignore categories to cut down on extra videos and notifications.
Audio quality
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro can also record audio. The audio sounded clear during live viewing and two-way audio in our tests but cut out whenever we tried listening to the live feed on a Nest Hub smart display when the rechargeable battery was too low. You can also turn off audio-recording for more privacy or if you live in a state that doesn’t allow audio recording on security cameras.
Scheduled recording
You can schedule when your motion recording option activates based on specific times of day throughout the week. This is a great option for synchronizing recording with regular times when you leave the house for work or soccer practice. We also like that you can schedule when the Reolink camera records using person or vehicle detection for more control.
Time lapse
Time-lapse photography isn’t a huge security help since it can make identifying different people difficult. But we like how Reolink recognizes that many folks will use security cameras for more creative pursuits by including this feature with the Argus 3 Pro.
Time lapse can be a fun way to track long-term progress like plants growing, clouds moving through the sky, or the construction of your backyard shed.
Live viewing and two-way audio
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro allows you to watch a live view on your phone using the Reolink app. You can even talk to folks near the camera using its two-way audio. These are standard features on any Wi-Fi security camera—but we wanted you to know Reolink didn’t forget them.
Reolink Argus 3 Pro video storage
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro has two video storage options: local storage and cloud storage.
Local storage
We love that the Argus 3 Pro supports microSD cards up to 128 GB (about $21) when most competitors top out at 32 GB or 64 GB. This is good news considering the camera’s 1440p video chews through memory card space a bit faster than typical 1080p models.
Local storage is great because you need only buy a microSD card to use it instead of paying a monthly fee. It also doesn’t require an internet connection—the camera’s battery lasts longer because it’s not always uploading videos to the cloud.
Cloud storage
Reolink offers free cloud storage on a single camera and up to 1 GB of video clips for up to a week. This is fairly generous compared to most other free cloud storage from brands like YI and Wyze cameras and which place restrictions on how long clips can be.
The company also sells cloud subscriptions that boost the storage capacity, video history, and the number of cameras. Reolink Cloud’s pricing is competitive on plans costing $10 a month or less but only when you have multiple cameras. The plans over $10 a month compare favorably against brands like Arlo and YI but don’t match the added features and unlimited camera capacity of Ring and Google Nest.†
Built-in siren
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro includes a built-in siren you can activate to scare off intruders. The camera’s built-in speaker controls this, but it won’t work correctly (the same goes for the two-way audio) if the battery gets too low.
Argus 3 Pro’s power sources
How long does the Reolink Argus 3 Pro’s battery last?
Reolink says you can expect one to four weeks of battery life without a solar panel on the camera during normal usage. Normal usage means recording videos multiple times daily and watching live feeds from the Reolink app.
Our testing reveals that this camera’s battery can last much longer in standby mode. We didn’t charge our Reolink Argus 3 Pro for almost three months, and it still held over 50% of its charge.
That’s an impressive figure considering the Arlo Pro 4 needed charging after sitting on standby for less than two months. This means that setting a schedule that balances standby time and recording time could yield some impressive results, especially if you supplement the battery with a solar panel.
Reolink solar panel
Image: John Carlsen, SafeWise
Reolink is the gold standard among solar security cameras because it doesn’t treat solar accessories as pricey upgrades costing $50 or more. Instead, the company sells its solar panel add-ons for $30, making it more affordable than solar options from Arlo and Ring.
Hooking up a solar panel cuts down the number of times you need to unmount the Reolink camera each year. This is especially helpful since you can’t swap out the battery.
Solar panel sold separately
The base Reolink Argus 3 Pro doesn’t come with a solar panel, though you can buy both in a bundle for around $133. There’s no discount for bundling the products together, so buying the Reolink Solar Panel (about $30) separately is just as affordable.
Smart home compatibility
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant smart displays like the Echo Show and Google Nest Hub. This allows you to ask your voice assistant for a live view of the camera feed, but the camera doesn’t interact with your smart home any other way. Still, this is very useful for checking on the kids in the backyard or getting a hands-free view after getting a push notification in the Reolink app.
Reolink customer service
We found a treasure trove of articles and videos in the Reolink Support Center. The articles offer helpful diagrams and explain plenty of technical details beyond simply showing you how to fix common problems. The Support Center is easy to navigate, and the search bar returns accurate results based on the model (or the issue you’re having).
The Reolink Forum is a nice alternative to the support center, but this user-driven content is harder to digest than the support articles. If you can’t find an answer in the support center or forum, you can contact Reolink by submitting a request via an email form.
Lastly, it’s impressive that the Reolink Argus 3 Pro carries a two-year warranty. While two years doesn’t seem very long, it’s twice the length of a typical security camera warranty.
Setting up and installing the Argus 3 Pro
Setting up the Reolink Argus 3 Pro is easy thanks to clear instructions in the Reolink app. It took us less than five minutes to connect the camera to Wi-Fi. We recommend charging the battery overnight before setup, but it’s not mandatory unless the app tells you to.
5 GHz Wi-Fi support
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is one of few home security cameras that supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi in addition to 2. 4 GHz Wi-Fi. The additional frequency can help cut down on home network congestion because it spreads out devices that might otherwise crowd 2.4 GHz networks.
Installation was also an easy lift because the Reolink camera comes with three mounting brackets for maximum flexibility:
The security bracket screws to the back of the camera and attaches to the wall via screws or a hanging mount but also fits on a tree or pole if you use the included loop strap. This is the most stable mounting option and is your best choice for mounting the camera outdoors.
The magnetic bracket attaches a strong magnet to the back of the camera, making it easy to mount and reposition on the accompanying bracket. While it attaches to surfaces the same way as the security bracket, the magnetic mount might be a better option indoors or in places beyond the reach of curious hands that might remove it from the bracket.
The stand bracket is nothing more than a plastic cradle that keeps the camera upright when resting on a surface. We found it convenient for our indoor tests, but it’s not as adjustable as the other brackets. Still, it might work for you on a table or bookshelf for use as a simple baby monitor or indoor camera.
Final word
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro doesn’t have the name recognition of its peers, but it more than measures up to the title of the best wireless security camera. We’re big fans of its excellent video quality, affordably priced solar panel, and numerous mounting options.
Notably, it doesn’t have the motion zones or interchangeable batteries of competitors like Arlo Pro 4 and Ring Stick Up Cam Battery. But as helpful as these features are, Argus 3 Pro’s benefits make up for them in spades. Check out our solar cameras review to see how this unit compares with its photovoltaic rivals—or head over to our wireless cameras review to see how it stacks up against the best.
Reolink Argus FAQ
After spending a few months with its cameras, we think that Reolink is one of the best options on the market for security camera tech, prices, and customer service.
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is rated for outdoor use in a various weather conditions. Its case has few openings and channels rain away from sensitive components. Reolink protects vulnerable openings (like the microSD slot ) with rubber sealing rings and silicone covers for extra protection against water.
No. Reolink cameras have local storage via a microSD slot and there’s also a free cloud storage option. Still, you can pay a monthly fee if you want more cloud storage capacity.
The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is the latest in a line of cameras stretching back to the original Reolink Argus in 2017. Although the original Reolink Argus security camera is no longer available, it spawned a whole collection of options you can still buy:
2018 models
Argus 2: The Reolink Argus 2 improved on the original Argus by adding a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and it was the company’s first foray into solar security cameras. Unlike the Argus 3 Pro, Argus 2’s battery is removable, and the camera has a 130º field of view. It doesn’t have the 1440p video or a bright spotlight. Overall, it’s a solid alternative to the Argus 3 Pro. Read our Reolink Argus 2 review to learn more.
Argus Pro: The Reolink Argus Pro is virtually indistinguishable from the Argus 2. We found only a single difference: Argus Pro doesn’t come with a magnetic wall mount.
2019 models
Argus PT: The Reolink Argus PT is an outdoor pan-tilt camera that allows you to move the camera’s lens remotely without climbing a ladder. It (and all future Argus models) ditched the removable battery in favor of one that you recharge using a solar panel.
Argus Eco: The Reolink Argus Eco is Reolink’s budget wire-free camera. It has a narrower 100º field of view and lacks the starlight night vision sensor of other Reolink Argus models.
2020 models
Argus 2E: The Reolink Argus 2E is a budget version of the Argus 2. It subs in a 120º field of view for Argus 2’s 130º view—it also lacks starlight night vision and a removable battery. Still, Argus 2E was the first Argus to implement time-lapse recording and has a larger microSD card capacity of 128 GB compared to most Argus models.
Argus 3: The Reolink Argus 3 is the first Argus model with a built-in motion spotlight to record full color images at night.
2021 models
Argus 3 Pro: The Reolink Argus 3 Pro is the star of the Argus line because it makes substantial improvements over its predecessors. It’s the first Argus camera with 1440p video quality, person detection, vehicle detection, a built-in siren, 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, and 16X digital zoom (previous models topped out at 6X).
How we reviewed the Reolink Argus 3 Pro
We tested the Reolink Argus 3 Pro camera alongside three other models in a home office for our Reolink cameras review. We looked at the video quality (in various lighting conditions), recording options, installation, and mobile user experience during our tests.
We didn’t test the Reolink Argus 3 Pro outdoors because an apartment complex presents too many issues with privacy and installation. Instead, we placed it in a plant terrarium for a week to test the time-lapse recording feature and see how it handled frequent water mistings.
After concluding our initial tests, we put the Argus 3 Pro into standby mode to see how the battery life holds up with the more infrequent uses of a typical homeowner. Take a look at our testing methodology to learn more about how we review products.

The success of your students starts with the right supplies. From writing supplies and paper to school tech and furniture, we have everything on your back-to-school list.
Shop by grade
Staples makes it easy to get exactly what your students need by organizing all the essentials by grade. Shop for preschool supplies like learning toys and rest mats, or elementary school supplies for everything your kids need from kindergarten through 5th grade. Our selection of middle school supplies includes more advanced items like planners and scientific calculators, and you can find everything you need for high school in our high school supplies section. Getting ready for college? From dorm essentials to laptops, get everything you need from our selection of college supplies.
All the essentials for school
Whether you want to shop by subject or are looking for furniture and supplies for learning at home, we’ve got the right selection. Browse classroom essentials including cleaning supplies, storage, classroom décor, snacks, and teacher supplies. For everything from school art supplies to calculators, binders, school backpacks, lunch boxes and more, we’ve got what your students need to succeed.
Take a seat
Whether you’re working from home or outfitting a space for gaming, your comfort is dependent on finding the best chair. At Staples, we provide a broad range of office chairs and seating, so you can find the right fit for you. Select from multifunctional task chairs, computer & desk chairs, drafting stools and more. If you will be using your new chair for multiple hours a day, make sure to get an ergonomic office chair to prevent unnecessary strain.
Comfort, all day long
Office furniture that is the proper size and height makes a big difference. When shopping for chairs, the height of the seat should be adjustable so that the user’s feet can sit flat on the floor with their knees at right angles. Likewise, the accompanying office desk should be at a height where the users’ elbows can sit comfortably at right angles at their sides while typing or writing. Browse our selection to find the combination that’s right for you. If size if a concern, check out our big & tall chairs which can support up to 500lbs.
Game on
If you’re a gamer, you know that a single gaming session can last all day or night. For the best and most comfortable gaming setup, Staples has gaming chairs in colors and styles for everyone. Make sure to match your new chair to an ergonomic gaming desk, the perfect complement for the high-tech gaming computer and accessories you’ve invested in.
Show seasonal allergies who’s boss
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, now is when they are at their worst. Stock up on allergy season’s most important products to keep your home, classroom, and office allergen-free. Start with an air purifier to strip the air of allergens like pollen and pet dander and replace existing air filters for improved air quality. Frequently dust, wipe down hard surfaces, and vacuum carpets and furniture to help eliminate pollen tracked in from outside and dander left behind by pets. When leaving the house, check the pollen count and bring a face mask to help filter the air you breath outside.
No matter what you do, it’s unlikely that the symptoms of seasonal allergies can be avoided entirely. Make sure to have over-the-counter cold and allergy medications on hand to battle symptoms, and stock up on facial tissues so you’ll always have one available when you need them.
Spring (Cleaning) is in the air
Spring cleaning and decluttering is a tradition meant to refresh our spaces for the year ahead. Staples has everything you need to clear out the clutter, store and organize your belongings, and all the right cleaning supplies.
Clear out the clutter
Start by preparing a checklist and make sure you have all the necessary supplies. Use storage bins and a label maker to make sorting and organizing easier. Prepare extra boxes for donations and trash bags for the things you no longer need. Look for decorative boxes & baskets that will compliment your home’s décor and use them to organize. You can also use closet organizers and storage drawers anywhere they are needed.
Start with the basics
An all-purpose cleaner, cleaning brush and microfiber cloths will clean most surfaces. Use a duster to remove unwanted dirt and furniture polish to revitalize wood surfaces. Upgrade your broom, dustpan, wet mop, and vacuum to make cleaning any type of flooring a breeze.
The nitty gritty
Spring cleaning doesn’t stop there. There’s so much you can do to reset your home:
Improve air quality and eliminate pollen and pet dander with a new air purifier and an air freshener with a scent you love.
On a sunny day, take the opportunity to clean your windows – you’ll need glass cleaner, a bucket, a squeegee, and paper towels.
Have a step stool or ladder on hand to access hard-to-reach places like the tops of cabinets and overhead lighting.
Replace broken light bulbs and check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
Use drain cleaner to clear up sink and bathtub drains.
Up your printing game with a Supertank Printer

Rest assured it arrives safely & securely
Whether you are sending business documents or customer products, shipping and mailroom supplies from Staples make the process seamless.
Keep packing supplies ready for easy shipping. Padded envelopes and bubble mailers are perfect for shipping small, non-fragile items. Pack larger items in shipping boxes that are slightly larger than the item, and use packing peanuts, bubble roll, or other packing materials to keep objects from moving in the box during transport. Choose the right packing tape to ensure your packages will stay sealed. Staples carries clear acrylic packing tape for everyday shipping and reinforced or water activated tape for packages that require a heavier duty seal.
Manage the day-to-day office correspondence smoothly with a wide selection of business envelopes, inter-office envelopes, and catalog envelopes in the mailroom. Have finger pads and envelope moisteners on hand for speedy document collation and a quick seal. Choose security envelopes for confidential office correspondence and inter-office communications. Whether you need a printer for a professional office environment or for your family, all-in-one printers are a great solution to meeting the needs of many with a single machine. While they can all do the same things, like printing and scanning, some have features that can make tasks significantly easier, like an automatic document feeder. The cartridge system is also important to consider when shopping for a printer, as an inadequate one means you have to replace the cartridges more often, and you end up spending more in the long run.
We’ve tested over 125 printers, and below are our recommendations for the best all-in-one printers you can buy. Also, check out our picks for the best photo printers, the best home printers, and the best wireless printers.

The best all-in-one printer we’ve tested is the Brother MFC-L8905CDW, a color laser model. It produces amazingly sharp documents, prints quickly at up to 32 pages per minute, and doesn’t need much maintenance. Connectivity options include USB, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet, and you can also print directly from a USB flash drive. Its ADF-equipped scanner scans quickly and supports single-pass duplex scanning, making it a great choice for offices that regularly scan multi-page or double-sided documents. Its toner cartridges yield thousands of prints, making it cheap to maintain, and although you have to replace the drum separately, you won’t have to do it too often as it’s usually good for 30,000 prints.
There are multiple variants of this printer that come in at different price points, so if you don’t need features like duplex scanning and NFC support, you can save a few bucks with an entry-level variant of this printer like the Brother MFC-L8610CDW, which still delivers identical overall print quality. You can see more details about all the variants in the full review. Unfortunately, laser printers like the MFC-L8905CDW aren’t the best option for printing photos, as they have a limited color gamut and struggle to reproduce small details.
If you need to print photos, we recommend the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550, an all-in-one supertank inkjet model. It prints detailed and colorful photos and supports various paper sizes up to 13″ x 19″. A full ink tank gets you thousands of prints, and the ink bottles are cheap, so you don’t need to worry about high maintenance costs. There are a couple of tradeoffs, like the lack of an automatic feeder, slower printing speed, and a higher price tag. If cost is a concern, you can choose the cheaper Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500 variant, which performs identically but only supports paper sizes up to 8.5″ x 11″.

If you only print black and white documents, you can save money with a monochrome model. We recommend the Brother MFC-L2750DW, one of the best all-in-one laser printers we’ve tested. Its high-resolution scanner produces outstanding scans and has an automatic feeder that can scan double-sided sheets in a single pass. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, USB, and Ethernet, and it supports NFC, which means you can connect by simply tapping your NFC-enabled device on the printer.
The print quality is outstanding. Documents look incredibly sharp and detailed, with minimal artifacts. Plus, the printer doesn’t take long to warm up, prints quickly at 36 pages per minute, and supports automatic duplex printing. Its toner cartridge yields around 2000 prints, and replacement toner is cheap, so your cost per print will remain low over time. You need to replace the drum separately, but again, it usually lasts 12,000 prints, so you likely won’t need to do it too often.
If you want to save more money but still want a monochrome laser printer, the MFC-L2750DW has many variants, including cheaper models like the Brother MFC-L2710DW, which lacks duplex scanning and prints slightly slower. You can also get bundles with higher-yield XL toner cartridges, like the Brother MFC-L2750DW XL, which might be cheaper than buying the cartridge separately. You can see all the variants and their differences in the full review.

If you need something for home use but don’t want to go too cheap, the mid-range price segment is where you’ll find the best options. Our pick is the Brother MFC-J4335DW, an inkjet model. It’s more compact and affordable than laser models like the Brother MFC-L8905CDW or Brother MFC-L2750DW above. You still get many features, like an ADF-equipped scanner, wide connectivity options, and fast printing speed. It produces high-quality documents, and while it doesn’t have the best color accuracy or the widest color gamut, printed photos still look very detailed.
Although it isn’t a supertank printer, this model’s standard ink cartridges still have a large page yield of approximately 2000 black and 800 color prints. Better yet, replacement cartridges aren’t overly expensive, which will help you save money in the long run. You can also get XL ink cartridges that’ll last longer. It has Wi-Fi and USB connectivity and is compatible with Brother’s feature-rich mobile app, allowing you to print, copy, scan, and perform maintenance tasks from your smartphone.

For the budget-conscious, we recommend the Brother MFC-J1205W, also sold as the Brother MFC-J1215W at Walmart. It’s an inkjet all-in-one intended for people who don’t print all that often and only need basic features. It feels sturdily built, prints decent-looking photos, and yields around 1100 black and 700 color pages. Naturally, since it’s a budget model, it lacks features like an automatic document feeder and Ethernet connectivity. This printer doesn’t print very fast at nine black or six color pages per minute, so you must be patient when printing long documents. Nonetheless, it’s still a good option if you’re looking for something affordable and don’t mind a few compromises.

If you want to spend as little as possible and want something to get the job done, our recommendation is the Canon PIXMA MG3620. This all-in-one inkjet model has all the basics. It has a flatbed scanner, produces good-quality documents and photos, and connects via USB or Wi-Fi. It prints slowly at nine black or three color pages per minute, but on the upside, it supports automatic duplex printing. It’s compatible with Canon’s mobile app, so you can easily print from your smartphone.
The biggest downside with a cheap model like this is its page yield. Its black and tri-color cartridges are only good for about 200 black and color prints, so you need to replace them often. Maintenance cost isn’t the issue since the cartridges are cheap, but it’s inconvenient. Even worse, you must replace the entire color cartridge if one color runs out, which is wasteful. It’s still a good option if you only print once in a blue moon for a specific project, but if you print more frequently, you’re better off getting a model with better page yield, like the Brother MFC-J1205W or the mid-range Brother MFC-J4335DW.

The best all-in-one portable printer we’ve tested is the HP OfficeJet 250. It’s a great option if you travel a lot for work or run an outdoor kiosk and need to print receipts. It runs off a rechargeable battery that supplies enough power for about 225 prints and takes around two hours to fully charge. You can connect to the printer via Wi-Fi or USB, and there’s support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service, making it easy to print from your smartphone or tablet. Its sheetfed scanner produces high-quality scans and has an optical character recognition (OCR) feature that allows you to save scans as text-searchable PDFs.
Printing-wise, it produces very sharp and detailed black and color documents. The downside is that it’s slow, as it only prints three black or six color pages per minute. Also, its ink cartridges run out quickly, so you might need to carry a few extra cartridges. The cost per print isn’t too bad as the cartridges are relatively cheap, although color printing can still get expensive if you print a lot. You can get XL cartridges that’ll last longer, and the printer also accepts third-party ink, which can help save some money.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw:
The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw is one of the best all-in-one laser printers we’ve tested. It has a slightly better touch-sensitive display than the Brother MFC-L8905CDW. However, it has a slower scanning and printing speed, a lower page yield, and inferior scan quality.

Canon imageCLASS MF743Cdw:
The Canon imageCLASS MF743Cdw is a versatile color laser printer that’s similar in design to the Brother MFC-L8905CDW. It has a higher color page yield than the Brother, but it scans slower and is more limited in availability. The biggest difference is that the Canon’s drum is built into the cartridge, simplifying maintenance requirements but driving up cartridge costs.
See our review
Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw:
The Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw is a newer version of the Canon imageCLASS MF743Cdw and also makes a good alternative to the Brother MFC-L8905CDW. That said, it shares many of the same disadvantages as its predecessor compared to the Brother, which scans documents much faster. It also has a lower page yield than both the MF743Cdw and Brother.
See our review
Brother HL-L2325DW:
The Brother HL-L23215DW is a cheaper alternative to the Brother MFC-L2750DW if you don’t need a scanner. It performs almost identically to the MFC-L2750DW in terms of print quality, but it prints a little slower at 33 pages per minute and yields slightly fewer pages.
See our review
Epson EcoTank ET-3850:
The Epson EcoTank ET-3850 is a great alternative to the Brother MFC-L2750DW if you need to print photos or graphics. Its ink tank yields significantly more pages than the Brother, but it doesn’t print as quickly and lacks duplex scanning.

HP LaserJet 1020

Andrey Primak
prints a lot
Author profile
I use HP LaserJet 1020 for about 15 years. As a sole proprietor and working from home, I print about 100 pages a month. Works great, has never been repaired – pah-pah.
Once printed about a thousand pages in a day without problems. I printed 50 pages, then let the printer “rest” a little.
I fill it myself: I buy toner and put it into the cartridge. One cartridge is enough for three or four refills, then the drum wears out and starts to streak. There are plenty of instructions on how to refuel on the Internet.
The original cartridge is expensive. There are non-original ones much cheaper. I don’t know how they are, I always bought the original, since it lasts for a very long time.

Author Profile
My HP Home Printer LaserJet 1010 has been working properly since 2001, during this time I changed the cartridge a couple of times, and All. Current expenses are cheap: I buy powder in wholesale stores, and my son refills the cartridge for free.
My student kids and I used the printer, even when working remotely. The only negative is that he likes good thick paper. It is really possible to adapt to a thinner one, but it can chew a leaf or grab two at once.
Unfortunately, this model is no longer in production. There were problems with drivers – never lose installation discs. But even they may not help if the software is outdated: you install new hardware and programs, but you cannot find a printer driver. But nothing is impossible – just by typing you find a suitable driver from a newer model.
Canon Pixma TS3340

refills cartridges with surgical precision
Author profile
I urgently needed to print a whole bunch of articles that I wrote for a customer for a website. There was not much extra money, and a sealed and stitched set of documents had to be handed over by a certain time. Therefore, by chance, without choosing anything and without thinking about the consequences, I bought a Canon Pixma TS3340 MFP to replace the broken old HP.
This printer cost 4500 R. Color, inkjet, with cartridges that do not seem to be refilled. Prints well. I did not notice any special problems when installing the drivers. Downloaded, installed, connected the device, waited a bit. Ready. There is a separate utility for tuning, cleaning, head alignment.
Prints clearly and is not too noisy. For a year of use, I chewed paper only once. I did not find any problems with color reproduction, although I cannot boast of perfect vision and the ability to distinguish colors. In the settings there is the ability to select the paper size – a rarely used feature in general, but it came in handy when I had to print on A5.
There are a lot of instructions for refueling, there is a video. But changing cartridges is expensive, each one costs 1500 R. And the paint kit is only 700 R. The refill kit contains syringes with thick needles, they do not fit inside the cartridge. I was afraid to drill, although a drill was included with the paint.
A friend taught me how to fill with an insulin needle. Such a needle fits perfectly into the cartridge, there is a small gap, therefore, when refueling, air calmly escapes from it. You need to press very smoothly on the piston, otherwise the needle may fly off. After one unsuccessful attempt, he adapted.
I clean the cartridge head before and after filling with a cotton pad with ethanol or isopropanol. Everything must be done carefully, otherwise it will be difficult to wash off the paint from your hands later.
This thing has only one plus: it is cheap and you can use inexpensive consumables. Refilling cartridges is about as difficult as giving an injection. Suitable only for those who have few documents, need the ability to print in color, do not tremble hands, have enough patience.
The scanner of this unit is decent – however, it works slowly. Requires creating a separate scan profile for A4 color documents. There is a problem with the “Photo” profile that comes with the driver: it can stop scanning in the middle of the sheet. The settings are intuitive.

90 002 I found an HP LaserJet 1300N with 110 sheets in the trash. I don’t know who lives so beautifully, but I have been using it for 10 years, and everything is fine with it. This is still an old HP, not a one-time modern UG. Because of PCL, there are no issues with Linux – I haven’t used Windows for 15 years. There are chips, but in their absence, he simply says, they say, the cartridge is over, please change it. And there is also a print server, plugged into the network with a wire – everyone who wants to print.
Epson Stylus Photo PX820FWD
How long has been working: about 11 years
Andrew
saved the printer from cold death
Author profile
I have two printers at home, it happened. The main one is the laser HP LaserJet P1102W. Compact, inexpensive, can be connected via Wi-Fi. The second is the Epson Stylus Photo PX820FWD inkjet MFP, a six-color printer-scanner. A rather bulky device, colleagues gave to my brother for the birth of his son, in order to capture the first steps. Rarely used.
After the birth of the second heir, there was not enough space in the apartment for the printer, and he was exiled to the dacha, where I took him from, so that he would simply not freeze uselessly in winter. It is in my closet, removed for printing a photo. It copes with this task well, although the head still dries up occasionally if you do not print for a long time. Then stripes appear on uniform gradients in the photo – for example, in the sky. It is treated with standard cleaning or washing.
I tried to refill cartridges – they are cunning there, with chips, you cannot refill the original ones. You can refill non-original cartridges with non-original ink, but this is quite inconvenient, and the ink level with them is not displayed. Once such a cartridge suddenly ran out, and the printer stopped printing even after refilling. Barely restored.
Now I buy original cartridges. With small print volumes, it is not so expensive, especially since they are separated by colors and you can buy them as needed. The whole set is enough for about a year. I think to try a set of ready-made non-original cartridges.
The Epson Easy Photo Print app is handy, with “enhancers” that actually improve results if used carefully. The only thing that is inconvenient is that there is no A5 (15 × 21) print format, only 10 × 15, 13 × 18 (5 × 7 inches) and A4. Here I usually print 13 × 18. Such paper exists, but is rare – you have to cut it out of A4. With a photo cutter, it’s not that hard. I use Lomond Premium Photo paper – it does not differ from the original Epson, but several times cheaper.
The scanner, as it turned out, is also needed, and almost more often than the printer. It scans well, you can load a pack of sheets at once, but it often draws two sheets from it at once, it’s better to put one at a time.

Once upon a time, there was an action of unheard-of generosity at work: old office equipment was given away to those who wished, as bought a new one, and this one was simply written off. So I became the owner of the indestructible HP LaserJet M1120 MFP. I only needed to refuel it, which I did. Five years have passed since then, and I still have not finished refilling that same cartridge.
Quite often my wife prints patterns, sometimes we print coloring pages for a child. The only problem is that there is no paper input tray, as well as a stand to support the paper at the exit, and the printed sheets fall to the floor. But these are the costs of a freebie, and I’m not worried.

Recently, it has become difficult to pick up paper from the tray. I “finished” the threshold for taking paper and pulled out the spring from there – it works like a new one.

When in 2005 bought the first computer in the year, and also purchased this laser printer – Samsung SCX-4100. MFP, three in one, with a scanner. During all this time, it was refueled probably only five times – economical consumption.
It’s hard to tell if he makes me happy now. If I printed out a lot, I would probably change it: it takes only one page, and then not always. It can chew paper – I took it to the service, they did something, it helped for a while. In general, I worked out my money a long time ago, but I don’t throw it away and don’t take another one, simply because I rarely print, and a new MFP will cost more than 10 thousand. I will use it until it dies completely.

The Canon MF3010 printer is generally excellent for its money. There is a scanner function, and quite good quality. I have been using since school. At first they bought standard cartridges, but then at the university I decided to try Chinese ones, and, surprisingly, everything still works fine. And for a long time already.
The only downside is that the printer is black and white. As for the office – I don’t know, but at home it will serve you like a nice little bunch of years.
Best of 2022: Budget Printers | DGL.RU
Home printer technology has evolved from inkjet printers to complex 3D models. The first home laser printers used mixed text and graphics, similar to dot matrix printers. Up to this point, the quality of home printing was far from the quality of commercial printing. Eventually, laser printing was replaced by inkjet printers as the main option for home use. There are still a few monochrome laser printers on the market today for low-cost, no-frills black and white printing.
But we will look at the most interesting printers in the budget sector, which can replace a b/w laser printer and not empty your wallet.
Specifications: support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, color, speed: 10 pages per minute in black and white, 7 pages in color, inkjet.
Features: requires an HP Smart account to work, but photos and documents can be printed borderless and have automatic two-sided printing.
Why it’s the best: print, scan and copy everything from documents and school assignments to photos and more. Connecting to Wi-Fi ensures that it can be placed anywhere in the apartment. While the HP Smart app lets you print and scan from almost anywhere, some users don’t like that the app is required for the printer to work. Others have had setup issues due to the lack of detailed instructions.
Features: USB support, black/grey, speed: up to 27 ppm, laser.
Features: High-quality resolution up to 2400 x 600 dpi, has a toner save mode, but it does not have a color cartridge and a USB cable is not included.
Why it’s the best: The is an incredibly simple, reliable printer for fast double-sided black and white printing. With great speed and excellent quality. In addition, this laser printer accepts Letter or Legal size paper and can print on various paper thicknesses, including plain paper, bond paper, envelopes, and labels.
Features: Wi-Fi support, USB, color, speed: 8ppm black and white, 4ppm color, inkjet.
Features: connects to a smartphone, it supports automatic document feed for scanning and faxing, but some users don’t like that the paper tray should be open when you hold paper.
Why the best: is a home office solution. It’s equipped with Wi-Fi-enabled smart features for maximum performance and versatility. With the Canon Print app on your smartphone, you can quickly and easily connect wirelessly to print directly from the same smartphone or tablet.

Why it’s the best: allows you to edit and customize photos, then print colorful 2×3 inch images that are suitable for decorating notebooks, scrapbooks. The palm-sized photo printer connects to most iOS or Android smartphones and other devices, so you can turn your selfies, portraits, and other images into physical photos with the touch of a button. Zero-ink (ZINK) technology eliminates the need for costly cartridges, toner or ribbons.
This print technology uses embedded dye crystals to provide affordable and beautifully detailed prints, coated with an extra layer that resists stains, moisture and tearing. The Kodak app lets you create collages and personalize your photos with filters, frames, stickers, and other types of custom styling.
This printer can print photo stickers that are suitable for decorating refrigerators, laptops, cabinets, scrapbooks and more. But the printer itself only comes with five adhesive photos.
Features: Bluetooth support, Wi-Fi, color, speed: 20 pages per minute black and white, 11 pages color, inkjet.
Features: supports wireless printing from other devices, is controlled by a touch screen, and works with a variety of paper sizes. But despite the fact that this is an MFP, there is no scanning function for iOS, cartridges are expensive.
Why the is the best: It makes it easy to print from your smartphone, tablet or laptop with convenient mobile printing options and a completely wireless setup. There is also automatic two-sided printing. Plus, with a wide range of paper sizes, you can print on anything from Letter and Legal to panoramic and other custom sizes.
Separately, it is worth mentioning the function of scanning to e-mail. However, Mac users have found that the iOS platform is not well supported and that you need to activate the scanner using Image Capture or HP Easy Scan.
There are not many things worth paying attention to for a long time. Just decide for yourself – why do you need a printer, and do you need color printing. After that, the list of options for buying will be significantly reduced. If you already have a working scanner at home, and the printer is broken, then why have a printer + scanner? If you print mostly black and white documents, an all-in-one inkjet printer might be a waste of money because you won’t be using color cartridges. On the other hand, if you want your printer to primarily print photos, a full-size inkjet printer might not be the smartest choice.
In addition, buying toner and ink cartridges can be extremely expensive. That’s where you need to focus. Having chosen an interesting printer model, find out the price of cartridges for it. Many printers work best using branded company cartridges.
What type of printer is the fastest?
Answer: Laser printers print faster than inkjet printers. However, this is only noticeable when printing a large number of pages.
Which is better: ink or toner?
Reply : Toner is less wasteful and lasts longer than inkjet ink.

which operator is best for you?
Thinking of switching carriers when thinking about upgrading to iPhone 14? In a highly competitive marketplace, major US carriers are offering attractive incentives to new customers. We’ll specifically focus on T-Mobile and Verizon below, including how they compare in speed, how to find real coverage maps, how to test both carriers instantly with an iPhone eSIM, and more.
T-Mobile vs. Verizon: Which Operator is Best for You?
Coverage
TL;DR
T-Mobile and Verizon coverage maps will look good on their websites, so here are a few tips to find out what coverage will actually be:
Check coverage with an independent third-party application Opensignal Opensignal gets real data from millions of devices and billions of measurements. Compare coverage quickly with Signalchecker. Sign up for a free eSIM trial to check coverage (available with T-Mobile and Visible). /Verizon) Talk to friends, family, or people at work who use your carrier of choice.
While Verizon was (and still is) leading in terms of customer numbers along with the widest coverage in the last decade, T-Mobile has made great strides with the acquisition of Sprint and the rapid rollout of 5G. This means Verizon is catching up with T-Mobile in 5G coverage as they work to expand their midrange spectrum.
However, earlier this year, Verizon launched 5G UWB coverage in 1,700 US cities and most recently ranked #1 for quality in a study by JD Power.
Speed
TL;DR
Verizon has the highest top speeds if and where you have 5G UWB coverage. T-Mobile has the highest average 5G speeds with great mid-range coverage.
Like coverage, carrier speed will depend on many factors such as your location, device, signal strength, network congestion, and more.
If you live in a metro area and not in a small town, speeds can vary greatly. Verizon leads the way with the fastest speeds of 1000+ Mbps if you have 5G UWB coverage, but T-Mobile currently has more affordability thanks to a more moderately fast 5G midrange.
Here’s how the top three carriers compare average U.S. speeds in Ookla and Opensignal surveys as of summer 2022:
Free and instant eSIM trials
Although it has been difficult to try out a new carrier in the past, eSIM support on iPhone and other smartphones has opened up a new opportunity.
T-Mobile and Visible (Verizon) are using this technology to allow customers to instantly test their networks for free right next to their existing carrier.
With eSIM trials, you can see the signal of your current carrier and the one you are testing at the same time. And you can decide to continue using your existing carrier and number for phone calls while using the cellular data trial.
T-Mobile vs Verizon: price
Verizon launched a more affordable unlimited plan this summer, but it’s still not as cheap as T-Mobile.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile has added new convenient perks such as free worldwide data, in-flight data, and more.
Although we’ve seen some price increases from Verizon this year, strong competition keeps prices mostly close between the two.
However, as advertised by T-Mobile, it typically offers about 20% lower prices for unlimited plans compared to Verizon. T-Mobile also includes taxes and fees in its advertised prices.
Please note that these prices may vary depending on how many lines you need.
Plan/Price T-Mobile Verizon Basic Unlimited $26.25 Auto Pay 4 Line Phone $30 Auto Pay 4 Line Phone – Total $10-25 Off Military/ Vets/First Responder Upgraded Unlimited $35/4-line auto-pay phone $25/4-line military/veterinarian/emergency phone $35-45/4-line auto-pay phone – 10 -US$25 total bill for military/veterinary/emergency operators Premium Unlimited US$42. 50 for 4 line auto-pay phone $35 for military/veterinary/first responder phone with 4 lines $55/for auto-pay phone with 4 lines – discount totaling $10-25 for military/vet/first responder
Incentives and deals
Both carriers are offering (at the time of writing) up to $800 for a trade-in when buying a new device. But T-Mobile is the most aggressive with up to $650 for early termination or coverage of the device’s current balance.
Both also include a free video streaming service with some unlimited plans. And Verizon offers more than just a Disney+ package. Depending on the unlimited plan, you may get additional perks such as Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and more.
Meanwhile, Uncarrier is holding “T-Mobile Tuesdays” to regularly give out perks and discounts to customers.
Both Verizon and T-Mobile provide their cellular customers with up to 50% of their 5G home internet.

T-Mobile pros:
Highest average speeds (Opensignal and Ookla studies). Affordable prices. Tempting incentives to move. Significantly improved coverage over the past few years.

How to cancel T-Mobile and leave forever
T-Mobile’s Uncarrier actions had a huge impact on the wireless industry communications in the United States. Shortly after failing to merge with AT&T, T-Mobile began to transform itself into the perfect place for those who didn’t want to be used. He stopped tying the sale of smartphones to two-year contracts with early termination fees. It announced unlimited music streaming and gave people on certain plans the ability to store up to a year of unused high-speed data. It also eliminated bill overruns. There are many reasons why you would like to switch to T-Mobile. It’s not that hard to find reasons to abandon T-Mobile. 9T -Mobile: take your phone with you
Despite all the talk about freeing users from contracts, this is not really the case. He knows that many of his users will want the latest iPhone or Android device and they won’t want to pay the real price for it. They will happily sign up for a Jump On-Demand lease, which will require some financial outlay to get rid of. T-Mobile’s LTE network has improved a lot, but there are still dead zones in smaller cities where reception is almost non-existent. Rural areas also remain a problem for the carrier.
If you’re ready to give up T-Mobile, here’s what you need to know.
How to cancel T-Mobile: what you need to get started
For the best T-Mobile cancellation experience, you need to plan a bit. Start with a copy of the latest invoice sent to you by the carrier. If you use digital billing for a company, you can find this bill in the My T-Mobile section of the company website.
What you are looking for in this invoice is your account information and an idea of what you would need to pay to leave the operator. As with other wireless companies, it’s good to pay off the balance of the account you have while you cancel your subscription. If you don’t, you’ll be asked to do so later, plus the carrier has the right to refuse to unlock your phone if you don’t.
It’s important to know how you pay for your phone. Check your invoice for EIP or Jump-On Demand. EIP stands for Equipment Installation Plan. With EIP, you financed the purchase of a phone through T-Mobile. When you cancel your subscription, you only get the remaining amount left to pay for your phone and any bill. There is no termination fee.
Jump On-Demand is a bit more difficult. The phone you have is not yours. He was never yours to begin with. T-Mobile just rented it to you. The company does not expect Jump On-Demand customers to use the device for more than a year, which is how long it takes to get close to paying for it.
While you are online, you can only leave your Jump On-Demand lease by paying the amount of the rent and upgrade fees, using the buyout option, or by turning in the device.
If you cancel your Jump On-Demand lease before the lease expires, you will be required to pay the remaining amount of the lease payments, according to T-Mobile support. You can also find this under “My T-Mobile” under “Payment”. You will have to turn in your device and you may be charged for any access wear that has occurred to a device in your care.
Jump On-Demand users will then need to use the pay option on their rental to buy their phone and take it with them to their new carrier. This amount is also shown on My T-Mobile. To give you an idea of how much it can cost to use this purchase option, it’s $182 for an iPhone 6s with 32GB of storage.
How to Cancel T-Mobile: Call to Cancel
To cancel T-Mobile, you can call 1-877-453-1304 or go to your local store. You will only want to use a support number if you purchased your phone as part of an installation plan or EIP.
Jump On-Demand users must visit a retail store to cancel T-Mobile. This is because the carrier needs to inspect your phone if you plan to trade it in, rather than using the purchase option to keep it and unlock it for another carrier.
T-Mobile iPhone 6s upgrade details you need to know.
Make sure you have all the information you need at hand, such as bill, account number, and the like. The agent who calls will tell you how much your final payment will be, and everything that prevents you from taking your smartphone with you.
How to Cancel T-Mobile: Fees, Fees, and Costs You Can Expect
Again, because T-Mobile’s programs are complex, it’s difficult to accurately predict cancellation costs.
EIP users should be asked to pay only the last month’s bill and the amount left in their installation plan. Jump On-Demand users can expect to pay their last month’s bill and any rental payments left on their device. They will also be asked to return their device or pay more to buy it right away.
How to cancel T-Mobile: take your phone with you
Taking your phone with you when you cancel T-Mobile is mostly easy. T-Mobile support describes the operator’s policy regarding device unlocking.
Carrier declares that it will not unlock any device that has been reported lost or stolen. The account associated with the device must be fully paid, and you cannot request more than two unlock codes from the operator in the last year. In addition, you must have the device on T-Mobile for at least 40 days.
