Where to buy an Amazon gift card online

The best and easiest way to shop for Amazon gift cards is online directly from Amazon, especially since you’ll have the option to either mail it, print it or give it as an e-card. Plus, Amazon offers cute ways to package the cards, like in a holiday-themed tin.

Amazon also offers brand- and store-specific gift cards for other retailers — like Apple, Sephora, Starbucks, Nordstrom and so many more — if you want to tailor your gift to your recipient a bit more. Fossil Pokémon are so rare that even trainers rarely have them. Read this list to learn how to become a true Pokémon Fossil Master!

Remember when you first started playing Pokemon and you stumble upon a fossil? For many, this acquisition of the item, at least in Gen I games. Blue, Red, Green , as well as Yellow , was pretty smooth. But it turns out that fossils are very useful key items, ranging from gen I games to gen VII games. If you know the steps and understand the different places in the games where you can find and evolve fossils, your Pokédex will suddenly get a lot better, as Fossil Pokémon are so rare that even trainers in the gym desire them, and few have them at all. .

Once you learn more about these fossil Pokémon, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the game. We’ve got facts and tips for all seven generations, so whatever game you’re playing these days, we’ve got you covered. Here are 15 Fossil Pokemon Facts You Didn’t Know.

fifteenDevon Corporation invented methods to revive fossil Pokémon

In the Pokémon world, the idea of resurrecting fossils into real Pokémon was first invented by Devon Corporation, presumably in one of their research labs on Cinnabar Island , Kanto region, south of the city Pallet, although the company is based in Rustborough. Hoenn.

In the Generation VI games, you can actually visit the Hoenn head office and check out their Pokémon Producer Machine. This machine collects the DNA found in the fossil by placing it in a capsule filled with orange creation fluid. The supercomputer then creates a blueprint for that Pokémon, and the corporation grows a new Pokémon from that extracted DNA.

In Generations I and III, you can only bring your fossils to life by visiting the Devon Corporation laboratory on Cinnabar Island. In Generations II and IV, the gamer learns that a volcano erupted on the island, the original gym was relocated to the Seafoam Islands, and the once-famous tech shelter no longer exists.

14 Fossil Pokémon are always Rock-type

Once you’ve successfully acquired a live Pokémon fossil, it’s useful to know that all Fossil Pokémon are at least partially Rock-type, if not entirely.

There are two theories as to why this is so; for one, the original Pokémon that became a fossil was originally a Rock-type, and it is this Rock-type DNA that allows it to become a fossil in the first place. Another theory is that being stony is a side effect of being reborn from a fossil.

Whatever the reason, he will be a rock type, or at least partly rock type! Rock-type Pokémon don’t have the best defenses and are especially susceptible to Grass-type and Water-type Pokémon. However, in offensive properties, they are almost unparalleled, they are opposed only by combat, ground and steel. Plus, if it’s only part rock type, any other Pokemon type can counteract the rock type’s disadvantages. Kobuto, for example, reborn from a fossil dome, is a water type, not part of a stone type.

13Kranidos is the only pure rock-type fossil Pokémon.

Cranidos (evolves into Rampardos at level 30) is the only fossil-type Pokémon in all games that respawns as a pure rock-type Pokémon.

This has its advantages and disadvantages. The upside is that this means Cranidos is an incredibly rare Pokémon. In order to get the Skull Fossil that resurrects Cranidos, you must travel to Eterna City and collect the Explorer’s Kit from the man in the house next to the Bicycle Shop. Then you have to go to the Dungeon, mine the walls, and you can only get the Skull Fossil if your trainer ID is an odd number.

The disadvantages of Rock-type Pokémon have already been outlined above, but the advantage of getting Cranidos is that in addition to being rare, they will also have incredible strength and great attacking moves.

Cranidos becomes available only in Generation IV games and is most notable for its iron head that can smash rocks and trees.

12 Fossil Pokémon are really rare and hard to catch

Since the process of finding fossils and then resurrecting them is such a long and complicated process that varies greatly from series to series, Fossil Pokémon are very rare!

In Gen I games, since fossils are key items and not just items, they can’t even be traded outside of the game, making them rarer. In Generation 2, fossils are so rare they don’t exist, and the only Fossil Pokémon available in the game is Chansey’s in-game trade with an NPC in Kanto. This is an exchange for Aerodactyl.

In total, only eleven fossils were found in the entire series, from generation I to generation VII. So, despite the minor drawbacks of Rock-type Pokémon, the rarity of these Pokémon certainly makes up for it. Because of this, few trainers have Fossil Pokémon, which makes this type of Pokémon even more desirable.

eleven Before Generation IV, fossils were key items

In Generations I and III, fossils are key items, which means they can only be used once and cannot be traded outside of the game. (This of course does not apply to Generation II because you cannot mine).

Only in Generation IV do fossils become a little more accessible, although the hoops you have to jump through to get them seem a lot more difficult. However, they are more accessible because fossils are no longer considered key items; they are just Items, which means you can trade them outside of the game.

Because fossils are so rare, you probably never want to drop your fossil, even in post-Gen III games. So there’s another benefit to turning fossils into items rather than keystones: freeing up space in your backpack.

In general, however, this transition is not a big deal, it indicates that starting from generation IV, fossil and fossil Pokémon will become more diverse!

10The first three fossils were discovered simultaneously in Generation I

Unlike later generations, this is the only Generation I owned Pokémon game that features three, not two, Fossils. These are a spiral, a dome and old amber fossils.

Fossil Helix becomes Omanite, part rock, part water, which evolves into Omastar at level 40. Fossil Dome becomes Kabuto, part rock, part water, which evolves into Kabutops at level 40. The amber fossil becomes an Aerodactyl, a somewhat volatile rock-type that can Mega Evolve into a Mega Aerodactyl.

In these games, you first see a fossil Pokémon when you encounter dragon-possessed Trainer Lance as the last member of the Elite Four. He has a level 60 Aerodactyl.

The spiral and dome fossils are at the end of the mountain. The moon is under the protection of a super botanist. Unfortunately, the player can only keep one fossil, so choose wisely! Meanwhile, Old Amber is part of the Tin Science Museum. You will need the HM01 Cut to access the location.

9In the anime, fossil Pokémon just went dormant for millions of years

Apart from card games and video games, the most popular offshoot of the Pokémon franchise was the original. anime TV show. Interestingly, in these representations, the process of reviving fossils is different from how it works in video games.

Instead of using the Pokémon Producer Machine, the fossils just went dormant for millions of years! The Pokémon is technically experiencing a “new life” now, but retains some memories from its “past life”.

The show’s methods of turning fossils into fossil Pokémon are far more arbitrary than those in the games. For example, in one episode, Archen was revived by Musharna’s “sleep energy”. In other episodes, it’s not entirely clear exactly how the Fossil turns into a Pokémon. While this ambiguity is frustrating in games, anime can do whatever it wants, really, and “dream energy” sounds pretty cool anyway.

8Aerodactyl is the only fossil Pokémon that can Mega Evolve

Of all the fossil Pokémon, Aerodactyl differs from the rest in its unique evolutionary process. Where most other fossil Pokémon eventually evolve, usually around level 40, Aerodactyl stays the same throughout the game.

However, in the Generation VI games, the Mega Evolution process was introduced, and Aerodactyl became the only Pokémon fossil capable of this kind of evolution. This is a rare attribute for Aerodactyl considering only 46 types of Pokemon are capable of it!

Megaevolving will essentially improve every aspect of your Pokémon, and its base stat will always be increased by 100 points to what it was in its original stat total. To deliver Aerodactyl to Mega Evolve, the Pokémon itself will need to hold their personal Mega Stone, and you, as the Trainer, will need to hold the Keystone. Mega Stones are very hard to find and look like sparks rather than objects on the ground.

7In Generation III, you will need a Mach bike to get Fossil Pokémon

In the Generation III series ( Ruby, Sapphire , and Emerald ), two more fossils have been added to the existing collection: a root fossil and a claw fossil, which respectively turn into Lilip (part stone type, part Zhukovsky) and anorite ( partly water, partly stone).

But with the advent of these games, the process of finding fossils becomes much more difficult than in the generation I games. In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire , you must head east from the city of Lavaridge, to a desert area where there is a crumbling tower. The fossils are on the top floor of the tower, but you’ll need a match bike to get there. In the end, to revive the fossils, you need to go to the city of Rustboro, like in the first generation.

When faced with a choice between a fossil root and a claw, you can only choose one. The other one will appear in Fossil maniac’s house after you defeat Elite 4 and defeat him.

6In Generation IV, there are several ways to find fossils

In the Generation IV game series, fossils are introduced separately in Diamond and Pearl ; Fossil Skull (Cranidos) is only available in Diamond and Armor Fossil (Shieldon) is only available in Pearl. At Platinum Meanwhile, the fossil you dig depends on whether your trainer ID is an even or odd number.

You can find fossils in different places in these games; in Sonnoh they are in hiding. Other rare items can be found here, including the National Pokédex. Once you find this item, you will be able to find all the other fossils featured in the Generation I and Generation III game series.

You can then find the Generation I Fossils in Johto, where you have to smash rocks near Alpha Ruins. Generation III Fossils can be found by performing the same action in Cliff Cave. Generation IV is when fossils become less rare as they have now moved from Key Items to Common Items.

To bring the fossils to life, you must go to the Orebourg Mining Museum.

5In Generation V, you will find fossils in the castle of relics and revive them in the museum of the banker

In the more recent Generation V game series, the process of getting fossils remains difficult, and the picture shows two new fossils: the Cover Fossil, which spawns in Tirtug, and Plum’s Fossil, which spawns in Archen. There are now nine Fossils that you can turn into Pokémon Fossils, so trade!

In the first batches of Generation V Pokémon Black and Pokémon White , you can only get one of the two fossils from someone in the Relic Castle, so choose wisely. However, in their sequels, you can get fossils from Lenora’s Gym Leader.

Gen I, III and IV Fossils can only be obtained after you defeat Heghzis and Iris, and you can get them from a worker in Twist Mountain.

To turn fossils into Pokémon in these games, you must go to the Nacren City Museum and then use the Pokémon Making Machine.

4In Generation VI, Breaking Rocks Are Key to Fossiling

In Generation VI, your collection of Fossils, and therefore Fossil Pokémon, should grow significantly as Breaking Rocks becomes the main method of obtaining them (in Glittering Cave and only after conquering Elite 4 ). Here you can collect dome, spiral, claw, root, feather, shelter, skull and armor fossils.

Here again are two new fossils: a jaw fossil that spawns in Tirunt and a sail fossil that spawns in Amaur. You can only get one of these fossils by going to the Glittering Cave, and you must revive it into a Pokémon at the Research Facility in Umbrette City.

Generation VI games reintroduce old amber, and you can also find Mega Evolve and turn your Aerodactyl into Mega Aerodactyl. After endless generations of Aerodactyl failed to evolve like other fossil Pokémon, this is an exciting move for rock-type Pokémon and flying Pokémon!

3In Generation VII, you can just buy fossils

Remember the good old days when you had to look for fossils everywhere and then go on another journey to turn them into Pokémon? Well, no more searching!

in the Generation VII Game Series ( Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Luna ), the process becomes much easier. To get fossils in these games, all you have to do is head to the Stone Shop in KoniKoni town. As long as you have money, you will have fossils because you just have to buy them!

In Pokemon Sun , you can only buy Skull and Shroud Fossils, and in Pokemon Moon , you can only buy fossils and armor. You will have to trade to get all four.

To turn fossils into Pokémon, you must go to the Pokémon Center on Highway 8, turn right into the forest area and find a person in his van who will revive them for you.

two Archen / Archeops – the only fossil Pokemon without hidden abilities

If you are a true hardcore Pokémon fan who has played all of the game series above, then you should now be quite familiar with the collection of fossil Pokémon that the Pokémon franchise has given us.

However, it is still surprising that some Pokemon are not like others. In the case of fossil Pokémon, it still seems like Aerodactyl was the lone wolf in the pack. But actually it is not.

Archen, which evolves from the Feather Fossil and then evolves to Archeops at level 37, is the only fossil Pokémon that doesn’t have hidden abilities! Luckily for Archen/Archeops, this part-rock type, part-flying Pokemon is so fast and smart that the lack of hidden abilities doesn’t really matter, considering its hidden abilities are so good! Not to mention, given that some latent abilities can sometimes be a hindrance, this could be an advantage for Archen’s revival.

1Most fossil Pokémon are inspired by extinct creatures from the real world

Have you ever played the Pokémon game and think wow, is that surprisingly insightful or accurate? Fans have long drawn parallels with the Pokémon franchise to Japanese insect-catching culture, technological innovation, or bird-watching culture.

When it comes to Pokémon fossils, parallels can be drawn with the world of paleontology. Indeed, some Pokémon fossils are very similar to real extinct creatures, insects, fish and reptiles, as well as mammals and dinosaurs.

For example, Anorith / Armaldo was inspired by the extinct aquatic creature Anomalocaris. Kabuto/Kabutops took inspiration from an extinct group of invertebrates called trilobites. Lileep/Cradily is based on crinoids that appeared during the Ordovician period, and it’s no surprise that Omanyte/Omastar is inspired by a 400 million year old group of invertebrate ammonites. And, of course, Aerodactyl is clearly inspired by the extinct pterosaur.

Who knew what was playing Pokémon will lead to such an educational experience? This is only to be expected when we’re talking about Pokémon fossils.

Wear OS 3 should be better – Crast.net

Wear OS had a rocky past, but with Wear OS 3 things are finally starting to get better. The first Fossil smartwatch to run on this platform, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a $3 Wear OS 300 smartwatch, which is disappointing.

Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a smartwatch based on the same hardware platform as last year’s Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch. It has a similar but sportier design than the standard Gen 6 watch and the same built-in features: size 44mm case with a round AMOLED touchscreen, two buttons and a rotating crown, main health sensors including a heart rate monitor, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ processor.

From a hardware standpoint, this is a fairly simple proposition. The watch is designed to be lightweight; The chassis as a whole looks like this. I like the subtle matte black. The rotating crown is also exceptionally smooth. Also, it uses a traditional spring-pin strap, which I can definitely appreciate after shelling out a lot of money for Google’s Pixel Watch.

This is a solid base package for Wear OS watches, but the big difference from last year’s version is in the software. According to the leak, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition runs on Wear OS 3, the latest and greatest version of Google’s smartwatch platform. It’s the same underlying software that powers the Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch 4/5, and Montblanc Summit 3.

Wear OS 3 is faster, has better battery life, and fewer bugs than previous versions. The Fossil setup for the platform is also minimal. You’ll also find orange accents in Fossil’s dedicated battery-saving mode – more on battery life later – and in some pre-loaded apps like Amazon Alexa, Cardiogram, and Fossil’s Wellness Health Suite.

The overall experience is remarkably similar to the Google Pixel Watch and, for that matter, many old Fossil smartwatches. Swiping down from the watch face opens Settings, swiping up reveals your notifications, and swiping in any horizontal direction now reveals “tiles” (widgets). Pressing the crown opens the app drawer, while the top button now shows recent apps. The bottom button is customizable to open the app of your choice.

Unfortunately, although the overall software has improved, performance has not improved. The first two days of using the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition were tough to say the least. Apps loaded slowly, the interface was generally cluttered, and I wasn’t at all happy with the experience. Once I even had to reset the watch because it thought it was connected to my Pixel 7 Pro, but my phone didn’t agree and I kept asking the watch to connect. was. This is a bug I’ve run into on Wear OS before, mostly on Fossil watches, and I’m very disappointed that it still exists.

Performance improved after a day or two, but it’s still the roughest experience I’ve ever had on Wear OS 3. Like the Montblanc Summit 3, the Pixel Watch runs a lot smoother. Since the Fossil watch is only equipped with 1GB of RAM, it’s easy to see why the Pixel Watch performs better, but Montblanc’s superior performance shows that this seems to be due to optimization issues.

Is productivity the deciding factor? I don’t think so – not so Completely she is wrong. Still, Wear OS 3 should be better than this.

Another software issue has to do with this smartwatch’s namesake, Fossil’s Health Kit. To be honest, it’s not very good.

The health app can track steps, heart rate, sleep, exercise and other basic statistics. All of this data is synced to the Fossil app on your phone, which you’ll use to pair this watch with your phone – the old Wear OS app no longer works. The data presented is fine and seems to be the same as my Fitbit Sense 2 on my other wrist, but this is a very limited subset of information. You get more with Google Fit, which is not currently compatible with this watch, and with Fitbit, also at the free tier of the latter.

For a smartwatch that takes its name from this set of health data, this is a truly disappointing experience. This is handy for getting a quick view of your data in real time, but it’s minimal help in terms of helping you identify data trends that the data is really useful for. Luckily, the Fossil app has Google Fit integration so you can sync this data to other devices if you want.

Don’t clutter, but the other problem I had was with dials. In general, I like Fossil watch faces, but the options for this product are extremely limited and few of them really suit my style. One face I liked, “Fitness Digital”, didn’t even work properly. It showed time and heart rate correctly, but my steps, calories, and miles traveled were stuck on the first day, and took days to finally update, even through reboots. Again, Wear OS 3 should be better.

Now let’s talk about battery life. it’s Good . While I had a few first days where I could finish the Wellness Edition in a matter of hours, I get a solid battery life of 18 to 24 hours on this watch with the always-on display off. In my testing, turning on AOD around 12 o’clock seems to kill hours easily. This is not so Good Battery life, but it has one saving moment.

Fossil’s contact-based charging method is much faster than the wireless options used by the Galaxy Watch 5 and Pixel Watch. In addition, this new generation of the Fossil system solves past problems with falling off charging rings on older smartwatches.

Fossil claims to charge to 80% in 30 minutes, which is roughly in line with my tests. I went into a charging rhythm once in the morning for 15-30 minutes and once before bed if needed to track sleep. Even while travelling, I only had one day where the battery ran out and it turned out to be due to my use of a dead USB port at the hotel. Again, battery life isn’t great here, but the charging more than makes up for it. I wish Google and Samsung used a similar system.

This is the Fossil app you will use to pair and control

One of my biggest concerns with the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is getting to know the new Fossil smartwatch. The brand bases its smartwatches from different brands on the same underlying platform and software and sticks to that for at least a year or two. In such a situation, this wellness edition smart watch is left behind. must Happen. If Fossil already had a Gen 7 platform, it would be relatively safe to assume that this smartwatch would be based on the faster and more efficient Snapdragon W5+ chip, which should result in better battery life and performance.

The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a decent smartwatch to date, but I can’t think of a single reason why anyone should invest in it at full price.

The $50 price difference with Google’s Pixel Watch isn’t worth the fitness/wellness or lack of basic features like Google Assistant.

From the moment I first saw the new Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 back at CES 2018  I knew it was going to be impressive device.

So it was with great excitement that I received the hot new hybrid for review a few weeks back and started putting it through its paces.

And, in news that will no-doubt please tech enthusiasts who also demand strong creative and gaming functionality, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 has not disappointed me, managing to deliver across the board and very firmly lodging a claim to be amongst the very best hybrid laptops on the market today.

What follows is my review of the new hybrid system, parsed down into key scoring areas like design, hardware, and performance, as well a series of benchmarks that add a little more in terms of filling in the complete picture.

I’ve also supplied pricing and availability information, too, from a variety of major vendors of the new 2-in-1 XPS 15.

  • Best Black Friday deals
  • Best laptops under £1,000
  • Best ultraportable laptops
  • Dell XPS 13 vs Dell XPS 15: which of Dell’s premium portables is better?

Before we get to the the review proper, though, you should check out the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1’s hype-filled launch trailer, which briefly gives a summation of its notable hardware and features.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 review: price and availability

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is available now, starting at £1,699 for the base configuration, and stretching up to £2,498.39 for the max-specced model. Browse our Dell discount codes for a saving.

All Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 configurations can be viewed on Dell’s official online store.

Currys PC World also has two models of the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 in stock, the entry level Full HD screen-packing, Intel Core i5-toting model, as well as a 4K screen, Intel Core i7-stacked model, too.

The carbon fibre keyboard surround is shut up and take my money swish.

Take the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 out of its box and the first thing you notice is its anodised aluminium lid and base, with the former embedded with the Dell logo. This is cool to the touch and radiates an air of quality, with the system’s screen (more on this soon) opening and continuing to rotate through 360 degrees thanks to a brace of equally premium aluminium hinges.

Lid opened you are then greeted with the carbon fibre keyboard surround seen previously on the XPS 15, as well as the system’s brand new maglev keyboard (more on that below) and glass-covered trackpad.

Above the keyboard sits the system’s InfinityEdge display, which boasts not only a very effective anti-reflective coating (nicely killing glossy glare nicely) but also a near-bezel-less frame, which really gives the panel presence when turned on. Located in the bottom-centre of the screen can be found the XPS 15 2-in-1’s 720p Widescreen HD webcam as well as the Dell logo.

Round the back of the system you are greeted with nothing other than a scooped air vent, while on the sides of the system you find its selection of ports, which include two Thunderbolt 3 ports as well as brace of USB-C 3.1 connections. A microSD card reader and headset jack complete the port package.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 review: hardware and screen

The XPS 15 2-in-1 transitions into Windows 10 tablet mode super fast. Perfect for the reading T3.com with a cuppa.

In terms of hardware and screen the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 hits hard.

A quad-core 8th generation Intel Core i7-8705G CPU is partnered with a Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics card (integrated Intel HD Graphics 630, too), as well as 16GB of 2,400MHz DDR4 RAM and a spacious 512GB SSD.

Now, it is important to note that this is not the base hardware spec, but actually a north of two grand model that is near flagship level. That said, the base model still ships with the same GPU and merely knocks the CPU down to an 8th gen Core i5  and 8GB of DDR4 RAM, so you’re not talking about insane capability differences.

This powerful core hardware is then bolted, in this case, to Dell’s absolutely lush  15.6-inch, 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge anti-reflective touch display. And, simply put, this thing is an absolute beaut and joy to use.

From watching movies to editing photos, and playing games to browsing the internet in tablet mode on the sofa (which is super easy and fluid to do thanks to the system’s aforementioned 360-degree aluminium hinges), the vibrancy, colour depth and touch accuracy of this panel really wowed me, while the near non-existent bezels made those on my old Dell Alienware M11X R3 laptop’s screen appear absolutely ginormous in comparison.

I have to tip my hat to Dell for managing to innovate within such a well-worn hardware area. Chapéu Dell, chapéu.

In fact, I think I would genuinely find it hard to go back to a system now that had even bezels of a modest proportion, so here’s hoping other manufacturers follow suit and start consistently knocking out hybrids with minimal bezels.

As mentioned above, the other major hardware addition this time round is the XPS 15 2-in-1’s brand new maglev keyboard. This is a keyboard that uses rare-earth magnets beneath its keys, rather than membrane switches, to mimic the feel of a traditional physical key response but with only a tiny travel of 0.7mm.

The result of its inclusion is enhancement to the laptops thinness and lightness, which is definitely very portable at just 2kg and dimensions of 35.4 x 23.5 x 0.9-0.6cm, but also a slightly unique typing experience, with slightly stricter key presses required and a faster reset time needed to be gotten used to from my experience. The super low profile of the board though I felt complementary to the excellent always glass-coasted Microsoft Precision touchpad.

Within an hour or two of use I found myself typing on the keyboard like normal, and really I have to tip my hat to Dell for managing to innovate within such a well-worn hardware area, and in such a cool way, too. Chapéu Dell, chapéu.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 review: gaming and performance

The XPS 15 2-in-1’s AMD Radeon RX Vega M graphics chip delivers Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050-beating gaming performance.

GeekBench 4 benchmark scores

[CPU test]

Single-Core: 4,139

Multi-Core: 12,604

[Compute test]

OpenCL Score: 66,688

Unsurprisingly that 8th generation Intel CPU delivers. And it delivers both in terms of everyday usage – with the XPS 15 2-in-1 booting up like lightning, transitioning between laptop and tablet mode rapidly, and running our test suite of apps without issue  – as well as on paper, handing in a very potent set of benchmark scores.

As can be seen in the adjacent boxout, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 racked up an impressive single-core score of 4,139 and multi-core score of 12,604 in GeekBench 4’s CPU test, before following that up with a smoking hot OpenCL Score of 66,688 in its Compute test, too. The numbers do not lie – the XPS 15 2-in-1 is a hybrid processing powerhouse.

And, in what was music to our ears here at T3, the XPS 15 2-in-1 carried that strong UI and app performance over into gaming, too.

As regular readers of T3 will know, we are huge PC gamers here and definitely appreciate a system that can push some slick frames and effects. As such, we were very, very interested to see how AMD’s Radeon RX Vega M graphics chip handled our benchmarks.

3DMark Advanced Edition benchmark scores

Time Spy: 2,231

Fire Strike: 6,288

Sky Diver: 17,792

The results were good. In 3DMark Advanced Edition the XPS 15 2-in-1 returned scores of 2,231 in the DirectX 12 Time Spy benchmark, as well as 6,288 and 17,792 in Fire Strike and Sky Diver respectively.

Now, while that falls quite a long way short of the king of T3’s best gaming laptop buying guide right now, the Asus ROG Zephyrus, which scores a whopping 5,576 in Time Spy, 13,929 in Fire Strike, and 30,844 in Sky Diver, it does look good when compared against many other gaming laptops, outperforming for example the Asus ROG Strix ZX753VD-GC266T, which itself packs a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU.

And that performance, without doubt, extends out of benchmarks into real-world gaming scenarios. I booted up one of our test games on the XPS 15 2-in-1, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and ran its in-game benchmark. The results, as can be seen by the nearby boxout, were very impressive.

Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark

[High settings / DirectX 12 enabled / 1920 x 1080]

Mountain Peak: 51.76 FPS

Syria: 42.53 FPS

Geothermal Valley: 42.21 FPS

Overall score: 45.67 FPS

I enjoyed some buttery smooth tomb raiding, bloke killing, and jaguar-running-from.

The game returned an overall benchmark frame rate of 45.67 at 1920 x 1080 resolution with all settings set to high, which is well over our minimum standard for smooth gameplay, 30fps.

I then loaded up the game proper and enjoyed some buttery smooth tomb raiding, bloke killing, and jaguar-running-from. The game looked and ran great.

The only down points I would raise here in terms of the XPS 15 2-in-1’s gaming performance is that the system runs hot and loud when pushing some serious pixels. Air streams out of the aforementioned rear vent with a noticeable hiss, and the area under and around parts of the keyboard – notably the W,A,S,D key zone – got really quite toasty after 20 minutes or so of raiding tombs.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 review: verdict

A quality pairing if ever I saw one…

There is no doubting the quality on display in the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1. The hybrid laptop and slate, in its max-specced configuration, is truly a system that will not leave tech enthusiasts and power users wanting.

Yes, the XPS 15 2-in-1 can be beaten by specialist systems that focus more on one or two specific areas rather than going for all of them at once, such as some equally expensive gaming laptops that outscore it in our gaming benchmarks, for example. However, if you need a system that can also deliver to a high level on the productivity and creative fronts, not just gaming, then this laptop should be right up there in your considerations.

Far from a being a jack of all trades, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 approaches being a master of all trades.

It isn’t perfect, with nothing to write home about battery life (the system’s battery life can’t compete with the HP Envy X2, for example) and a tendency to run loud and hot when the CPU and GPU are under a heavy load (such as when gaming), but these are admittedly minor points overall.

Overall, then, this thin and attractive 2-in-1 is very impressive and competes right at the top end of the hybrid 2-in-1 market. You get the premium build quality long-associated with Dell systems, but you also get Nvidia GTX 1050-beating AMD Radeon RX Vega M graphics capabilities, a genuinely innovative maglev keyboard, and one of the most lush screens on the market today.

Which leads to the conclusion that, maybe Surface Book 2 aside, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is arguably the foremost hybrid on the market today.

Far from a being simply a jack of all trades, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 instead approaches being a master of all trades.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 review: jack of all trades

Dell’s latest 15-inch XPS 2-in-1 is a high-end laptop that appeals to creative users: people who need power and portability, and might also appreciate a touchscreen and a stylus. It plays in the same field as HP’s Spectre x360 15, Microsoft’s Surface Book 2, and Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Right out of the box, Dell gets most things right with the XPS 15 2-in-1, with a just few areas that need improvement. Its build quality, attention to detail, power, and flexibility add up to a high-end experience that matches its premium price.

It’s fair to say you get what you pay for with the XPS 15 2-in-1. It starts at $1,299, but the model I’ve been testing costs nearly a grand more at $2,199. That price gets a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, a 512GB of storage, a 4K touchscreen, and AMD’s integrated Radeon Vega M graphics. The most costly part of that is the 4K screen, so you can save quite a bit by opting for the 1080p panel. No matter which model you buy, the Vega M graphics come along for the ride. It’s a solid package that I’ve been able to live and work with — mostly in harmony.

How we rate and review products

Looking at the XPS 15 2-in-1’s chassis is well, an unimpressive viewing — Dell’s XPS laptops have been using the same basic design language for years now and it looks dated. Most of the laptop is covered in metal topped with a silver finish, and when opened up, a faux carbon fiber palm rest. It has a rubberized, smooth texture that makes it by far one of the most comfortable palm rests I’ve used and despite being prone to fingerprints, it’s easy to clean.

Dell’s build quality is unmatched

Overall, the design might be boring, but the XPS makes up for that with excellent build quality. The palm rest, display, touchpad, and keyboard hardly exhibit any noticeable give — there are no wobbly underside or clicking fans here.

However, the Dell XPS 2-in-1 isn’t a lightweight, weighing in at almost 4.5 pounds. That’s more than the 15-inch MacBook Pro, Surface Book 2, and even some full-fledged gaming laptops. I don’t think anyone wants to walk around with a four-plus pound tablet, because it’s cumbersome and awkward to use, but since the XPS is a convertible, you can do that if you want.

No one wants a four pound tablet

The 360-degree hinge also lets you use the XPS in an easel or movie-watching mode, both of which are probably more practical than as a tablet. The hinge is quite sturdy and doesn’t have the horrible screen wobble so many 2-in-1s are plagued by. On the flip side, it’s very hard to open the XPS 15 2-in-1 with one hand, thanks to that stiff hinge and no cut out to slip your finger into.

When it comes to ports, the XPS 2-in-1 reminds me of the not-so-loved 15-inch MacBook Pro: two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-C 3.1 ports with DisplayPort, an audio jack, microSD card slot (I’m not sure what to do with it), lock slot, and a battery level indicator. There’s no full-size USB-A port — which is a travesty — and while I appreciate the forward-thinking of including USB-C, user adoption still isn’t high enough for me to swear it off, then have to buy a dongle.

Dell does get your dongle collection started by including a USB-C to A adapter in the box, but I’d much rather just have the port built into the machine itself. Fortunately, you can charge the laptop using any one of the four USB-C ports.

The screen on the Dell measures 15.6 inches (with a 16:9 ratio), has thin bezels, and supports Dell’s included stylus. It’s the highlight of this XPS 15 2-in-1 unit, because this 4K display pops. By default, Dell sets Windows 10’s display scaling to 250 percent, which makes everything comically large — moving it down to something like 225 or 200 percent lets you better take advantage of the screen’s real estate.

It’s a gorgeous 4K screen

Colors are bright, with tons of pop and contrast without too much image sharpening. The 4K option has 100 percent Adobe RGB certification (with some variance between displays), which is useful if you’re planning to do any serious image editing with it. Dell advertises 400 nits of brightness and while eyeballing it next to the Spectre 15-inch x360, the Dell definitely appears to be the brighter and better looking 4K experience.

Dell deserves credit for including a capable stylus with the XPS 15 2-in-1, unlike HP, which throws in a basic one, or Microsoft that doesn’t give you any stylus at all. The included pen has 4,096 levels of pressure and is the closest equivalent to the Surface Pen I’ve tested. It’s a great stylus, has good weighting, and draws with precision. It also supports angle input for shading.

The XPS 15 2-in-1’s keyboard is nearly as shallow as the MacBook Pro 15-inch, but other than that, there isn’t anything like it. It’s clickier, has better tactile response, and I find it more enjoyable to type on, overall. Also, it’s hopefully more reliable than Apple’s issue-prone keyboard. However, the backlight brightness is not as bright as I hoped and the Page Up and Page Down keys are unceremoniously located above the left and right directional keys — it’s just asking for an incorrect entry.

Shallow keys, but they’re okay

The trackpad is Precision-enabled, but is a tad small considering the overall real estate on the palm rest. Regardless, it has a fast, accurate input with support for all of Windows 10’s gestures, and the results are exactly what I look for: smooth.

Dell makes it very easy to log in to the computer by supporting both fingerprint sign-in — via the power button — and facial recognition via the IR camera, located at the bottom of the display, under the “Dell” logo. The webcam placement is a sacrifice made for the thin bezel design, but as I’ve found out before (and more than once) it’s entirely possible to have thin bezels and place the webcam where it belongs — at the top of the screen.

It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again: Dell’s camera placement means that all of your video calls will have horribly unflattering up-the-nose angles and your fingers will block the camera when you type.

“This Dell rips,” are words that I’d rarely ever say, but they are true about this XPS 15 2-in-1. Processor-wise, the Core i7-8750G is a speedy quad-core processor — that part is well-known — but there is little (if any) crapware installed upon first booting the XPS 15 2-in-1.

So your first few times using the system is clear-headed and uncluttered, as it should be. Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, and other Adobe suite apps should have no issue running in large batch operations here.

Didn’t expect light gaming performance

Where the XPS 15 2-in-1 surprised me in terms of performance was with graphically intensive apps, or rather, games. League of Legends can run at a consistent 60 fps and full 4K resolution. Counter Strike: Global Offensive runs just as well, but a graphics-intense title like Rainbow Six: Siege requires some settings tweaks, to a lower resolution with less eye candy. It won’t hold a candle next to a purpose-built gaming laptop, but it’s still impressive because the XPS 15 2-in-1 wasn’t designed for gaming to being with.

I’m used to seeing just five hours of battery life with 2-in-1 computers that have 4K touchscreens, but the XPS 15 2-in-1 surprised me with seven hours of use between charges. It’s not as long as you’ll get with an ultrabook or Microsoft’s Surface Book 2, but it’s on par with the 15-inch MacBook Pro and other powerful laptops. The light-up battery gauge on the left side offers limited info as to how much battery is left, but it is useful for eyeballing it.

Dell has established the XPS 15 2-in-1 as one of the best laptops in its class. The XPS 15 2-in-1 blends all the benefits of having a 4K display, powerful chipset, and aesthetic integrity, without the user having to sacrifice too much battery life, excessive heat, or poor build quality. While the design choices of Dell still seem a bit dated, everything else about the XPS 15 2-in-1 performs as you’d expect… which is the right way.

The 4K screen is an expensive upgrade

The biggest issue might be the XPS 15 2-in-1’s price, which isn’t as high as a MacBook Pro or Surface Book 2, but still a significant cost. You can skip the 4K screen for a 1080 panel and save quite a few hundred dollars, while still maintaining many of the other qualities that make this XPS so good to use. You might even get better battery life and performance with the lower-resolution screen, but 4K just makes it that much better because of the Adobe RGB support and resolution.

Although the XPS 15 2-in-1 is a very expensive laptop with a boring design, it does most everything it’s supposed to well, which might be enough to make you forget about its cost and sleepy styling.

So, thanks to Intel’s new partnership with AMD, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 not only has a quad-core Intel processor, but also Radeon M graphics, which still has a performance advantage over integrated graphics. Plus, you’ll get the performance you need for any game, content creation, editing, viewing in 4K resolution, or for ultra-demanding tasks.

Dell Power Manager allows users to easily customize the laptop’s sound, cooling, and performance to suit their preferences. In addition, it ensures optimal processor performance at all times by monitoring and controlling system temperature.

Built-in gyroscope and accelerometer automatically determines whether the laptop is on your lap or on the table. If the laptop is placed on a desktop, system performance is improved without causing user inconvenience due to excessive heat. The powerful battery provides up to 15 hours and 25 minutes of use on a single charge at Full HD resolution.

There are many similarities between the two models, including support for the Dell Active Pen, high-resolution touch displays, and rich connectivity. Although the XPS 13 has fewer ports, the 10th generation Intel processor makes up for this shortcoming.

8Verge Score

$1299.99

The Good

  • Excellent build quality
  • Great 4K screen
  • Touchpad and keyboard work well
  • Long battery life

The Bad

  • Keys are too shallow
  • Boring design
  • No USB-A

$1300 at Dell

How to Measure for a New Refrigerator

Why Trust Spencer’s?

Your friends in the business at Spencer’s TV & Appliance believe a healthy family starts with proper food storage. In line with that, our inventory of name-brand refrigerators is sure to keep your groceries fresh for midday snacks and dinnertime meals—not only that, but they are perfectly designed to suit a wide variety of kitchen layouts, lifestyles, and aesthetic preferences.

That said, the standard width of most freestanding refrigerators is around 30 inches. Dissecting this dimension further, French-door and bottom-freezer fridges start at approximately 29-½ inches while top-freezer configurations start at 28-¾ inches (and the minimum width of side-by-side models surpasses this figure at 32-¾ inches).

Off the bat, we can tell you a 30” refrigerator can comfortably house groceries for a four-person family and is considered a viable option for small- and mid-sized kitchens. So, if your family size and kitchen space fit the bill for a 30-inch fridge, check out these bestselling models from our catalog as they range from entry-level to luxury-tier brands and price points!

Types of 30 Inch Refrigerators

When searching for a new refrigerator, one of the most important things to consider is its size. A 30 inch refrigerator is an ideal option for smaller homes or kitchens with limited space, as it manages to fit plenty of storage into a compact area. While 30 inch refrigerators aren’t quite as capacious as larger units, there are still plenty of options to choose from. Here are some of the most popular types of 30 inch refrigerators available on the market today:

Top-Freezer Refrigerators: 30″ Top-freezer refrigerators are one of the most common models and feature a freezer compartment at the top with a refrigerator section below. These units typically have adjustable shelves, door shelves, and bins to provide plenty of storage options.

Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators: 30″ Bottom-freezer refrigerators are more expensive than top-freezer models but can be a great option if you need easier access to your refrigerator section since it’s on eye level. Many units also feature drawers for easy organization.

French Door Refrigerators: 30″ French door refrigerators are the newest style of 30 inch refrigerator and feature a top-freezer with two doors on the refrigerator side that open outward in a “French” style. This type of refrigerator typically has adjustable shelves, drawers, and bins for plenty of storage space.

Column Refrigerators: 30″ Column refrigerators are the latest type of 30 inch refrigerator and feature two independent columns, one for the refrigerator section and one for the freezer. This style is ideal if you need more storage room as many models offer adjustable shelves, drawers, and large bins. Additionally, column refrigerators typically have counter depth dimensions which makes them a great choice for those with limited space.

No matter which type of 30 inch refrigerator you choose, it’s important to measure your available space before making a decision. With the right measurements and careful consideration, you can find the perfect appliance for your home.

How to Measure for a New Refrigerator

When shopping for a new refrigerator, it is important to ensure you buy one that fits in the space you plan on putting it. This means measuring the space carefully before purchasing a 30 inch refrigerator. To measure correctly, start by taking three measurements: the width, depth and height of your available space. Make sure to measure from wall to wall to ensure you have enough space for the 30 inch refrigerator. You should also measure any doorways or hallways that you need to get through when bringing the fridge into your home. If you are buying a side-by-side refrigerator, measure the width and depth of each side separately to make sure it will fit properly in your space. When considering a 30 inch refrigerator, make sure to measure the clearance around it as well. You will need at least an inch of space between the wall and refrigerator for air circulation. Lastly, check your doorways and hallways measurements again to ensure there is enough room for the fridge to fit through when you bring it home. With these measurements in hand, you can be sure that a 30 inch refrigerator will fit perfectly in your space.

Networking

By

  • Jessica Scarpati

What is a network hub?

A network hub is a node that broadcasts data to every computer or Ethernet-based device connected to it. A hub is less sophisticated than a switch, the latter of which can isolate data transmissions to specific devices.

Network hubs are best suited for small, simple local area network (LAN) environments. Hubs cannot provide routing capabilities or other advanced network services. Because they operate by forwarding packets across all ports indiscriminately, network hubs are sometimes referred to as “dumb switches.”

With limited capabilities and poor scalability, network hubs had primarily one competitive advantage over switches: lower prices. As switch prices fell in the early to mid-2000s, hubs began getting phased out of use. Today, hubs are far less commonly deployed. But network hubs have some niche uses and continue to offer a simple means of networking.

Compare the difference between a hub and a switch.

How network hubs work

Network hubs are categorized as Layer 1 devices in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model. They connect multiple computers together, transmitting data received at one port to all of its other ports without restriction. Hubs operate in half-duplex.

This model raises security and privacy concerns, because traffic could not be safeguarded or quarantined. It also presents a practical issue in terms of traffic management. Devices on a hub function as a network segment and share a collision domain. Thus, when two devices connected to a network hub transmit data simultaneously, the packets will collide, causing network performance problems. This is mitigated in switches or routers, as each port represents a separate collision domain.

See how a network hub works.

All devices connected to a network hub share all available bandwidth equally. This differs from a switch environment, where each port is allotted a dedicated amount of bandwidth.

Types of network hubs

There are two types of network hubs: active and passive. A third designation, intelligent hubs, is synonymous with a switch.

  • Active hubs repeat and strengthen incoming transmissions. They are also sometimes referred to as repeaters.
  • Passive hubs simply serve as a point of connectivity, without any additional capabilities.

An unrelated use of the word “hub” involves network topologies. In a star topology, sometimes called hub and spoke, each host connects to a central hub; the hosts, however, do not directly connect to each other. In this context, the “hub” is typically a switch.

What is Network Hub and How it Works?

Hub in networking plays a vital role in data transmission, and broadcasting. Hub is a hardware device used at the physical layer to connect multiple devices in the network. Hubs are widely used to connect LANs. A hub has multiple ports and it is a non-intelligent device.

Unlike a switch, a hub cannot filter the data, i.e. it cannot identify the destination of the packet, so it broadcasts or send the message to each port. This is why it is known as a non-intelligent or dumb device. Hub does not have any routing table to store the data of ports and map destination addresses., the routing table is used to send/broadcast information across all the ports.

How Does a Network Hub Work?

A hub is a multiport device, which has multiple ports in a device and shares the data to multiple ports altogether. A hub acts as a dumb switch that does not know, which data needs to be forwarded where so it broadcasts or sends the data to each port.

Suppose there are five ports in a hub A, B, C, D, and E. consider A wants to send any data frame, or let’s say A is acting as a sender, so the hub will forward the data transmitted by A to B, C, D, E. Now, if at the same time B also wants to send the data then data received from A and B will collide and can cause data loss. In this situation, the data gets destroyed, and the hosts send a jam signal to all the hosts informing them about the collision, and each sender needs to wait for a certain amount of time.

Note: In the hub, data is sent to all ports but each port accepts only that data whose destination address matches their MAC address.

Types of Network Hubs:

Networks hubs are of the following three types:

  1. Active Hub: They have a power supply for regenerating, and amplifying the signals. When a port sends weak signaled data, the hub regenerates the signal and strengthens it, then send it further to all other ports. Active hubs are expensive in costs as compared to passive hubs.
  2. Passive Hub: Passive hubs are simply used to connect signals from different network cables as they do not have any computerized element. They simply connect the wires of different devices in the star topology. Passive hubs do not do any processing or signal regeneration and that’s why do not require electricity the most they can do is they can copy or repeat the signal. It can’t clean the message, and it can’t amplify or strengthen the signal.
  3. Intelligent Hub: Intelligent hubs as the name suggests are smarter than active and passive hubs. The intelligent hub comprises a special monitoring unit named a Management Information Base (MIB). This is software that helps in analyzing and troubleshooting network problems. Intelligent hubs work similarly to active hubs but with some management features. Like it can monitor the traffic of the network and the configuration of a port.

Features of Hubs:

Hubs are the hardware device that operates in the physical layer of the OSI model.

  • It supports half-duplex transmission
  • It works with shared bandwidth and broadcasting.
  • The hub can provide a high data transmission rate to different devices.
  • It can detect collisions in the network and send the jamming signal to each port.
  • Hub does not support VLAN and spanning tree protocol.
  • It is unable to filter the data and hence transmit or broadcast it to each port.
  • It cannot find the best route/ shortest path to send any data, which makes it an inefficient device.

Difference Between Network Hub And Switch:

Hub Switch

It works on the physical layer of the OSI model.

It works on the data link layer of the OSI model.

It performs frame flooding, which includes broadcast, multicast and unicast as well.

It mainly performs broadcasts and performs multicast, and unicast whenever required.

The transmission mode is half-duplex.

The transmission mode is full-duplex.

It cannot perform data filtering.

It can filter data and send the frame to the desired destination.

There is no spanning tree.

A switch may contain more than one spanning tree possible.

It can not store the MAC address of the ports and the destination address of the frame that arrived.

It can store the data in a routing table and it helps in further sending the data.

It is a passive device.

It is an active device.

Hub can operate at a speed of 10Mbps.

The switch can operate at a speed of 10-100Mbps and 1- 10 Gbps.

Advantages of Network Hubs:

  • Less expensive.
  • Does not impact network performance.
  • Support different network media.
  • Easily connects with different media.

Disadvantages of Network Hubs:

  • It cannot find the best/ shortest path of the network.
  • No mechanism for traffic detection.
  • No mechanism for data filtration.
  • Not capable of connecting to different network topologies like token, ring, ethernet, etc.

principles and features of work, its differences from switch

Building a local network between computers and enterprise servers requires specialized equipment. One such device used to organize a grid is a hub. From this article, you will learn what it is and how it differs from a switch network switch.

Translated from English hub (hub) means center, fork, branch or junction. Another name for this device is a network hub. It serves to combine computers and enterprise servers into a single local network. Moreover, the number of devices connected to the network directly depends on the number of ports / connectors of the hub.

How a network hub works

A HUB works by duplicating the incoming signal and transmitting it to devices connected to the network. In this case, the information is not sent to a specific computer, but becomes available to all users. To make it easier to understand, consider the principle of operation of a network hub using a specific example .

The enterprise has six computers and a server connected to a local network using a hub. It is necessary to transfer information (data packet) from computer No. 6 to computer No. 3. Computer No. 6 sends a signal to the hub, after which it is duplicated and simultaneously transmitted to all devices connected to the network. As soon as the addressee (computer No. 3) has received the sent information, the response is sent to the network hub, from where it is again transmitted to all devices in order to find computer No. 6.

HUB features

From the above example, it becomes clear that in the process of information exchange, it is sent twice to all equipment connected to the local network, regardless of who the data packet is addressed to. The first time at the time of the poll, the second – during the transmission of the response signal. As a result, the load on the network grows in direct proportion to the number of devices connected to it. Against the background of the information presented, it is easy to identify features of a local network organized with the help of a HUB.

  • increasing the number of ports/connectors reduces the throughput of the network hub;
  • data transfer takes place at the speed of the slowest node and is carried out to all devices, and not just to those for which
  • data is transferred to absolutely all ports, and not only to connected ones.

Important!
These properties significantly reduce the security level of the local network and allow third-party programs to access the logins and passwords used on the network.

Advantages of a network switch (switch)

Unlike a hub, a switch network switch sends data directly to the destination. The effectiveness of this process is ensured by the unique MAC addresses assigned by the manufacturer. Thanks to them, the switch determines a specific device on the local network and purposefully transmits information to it. Read what a switch, router is and how it works in the relevant articles on our website.

Key differences between network hub and switch

  • HUB splits the signal and transmits it to all devices included in the local network, and the switch sends it directly to the addressee;
  • Since the signal is transmitted to all devices, and not just to those to whom it is intended, the local network built on a network hub is much slower than on a switch;
  • Data transmitted over a local network created using a hub is particularly vulnerable to malware;
  • A network organized through a network hub does not need to fine-tune network cards, but a network built on a switch does;
  • Data transfer through the HUB is at the physical level, and through the switch – at the channel level;
  • The cost of a network hub is slightly less than the price of a switch;

Important!
With the help of a hub, it is impossible to build a full-fledged local network even in a small office. The best option for using this equipment is the organization of a home grid.

A tenor in the classical crossover group Il Divo was sued Monday by his ex-wife, who accused him of domestic violence, sexual assault and battery and described his behavior toward her over the years as “a textbook example of coercive control.

In the suit, filed in state court in Los Angeles, Renée Izambard said that her ex-husband, the singer Sébastien Izambard, had subjected her to “years of dangerous psychological abuse and torture, and intense sexual, physical and emotional abuse, bringing her to the doorstep of death.”

Ms. Izambard, 43, an Australian native who was a music publicist before she married Mr. Izambard, 48, charged in the lawsuit that over the years he had tracked her movements, withheld medical care, subjected her to sex acts without her consent, and threatened to stop supporting their three school-age children.

“Really, she’s just fighting to be free of abuse,” Devin McRae, a lawyer for Ms. Izambard, said. He said that his client had been motivated to file the suit both to end what she saw as a campaign of terror that continued after she filed for divorce in 2018, and to shed light on how intractable coercive control is.

Il Divo’s management and label have not responded to repeated requests for comment, nor did a lawyer who has represented Mr. Izambard in the past. A booking agent for the group had no comment. The group, which has sold some 30 million records, is due out with another one, celebrating the music of Motown, in July.

In January, California enacted a law that defined coercive control, making it easier for behavior like isolating a partner to be introduced in family court as evidence of domestic violence. Pallavi Dhawan, director of domestic violence policy for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, said her office has been tracking the results. “I have heard that family lawyers are getting more success in getting restraining orders using coercive control, because they have been able to argue that it’s codified,” she said.

Some legal experts believe that the law could open the door to make examples of coercive control admissible in other cases, such as the civil claim that Ms. Izambard is filing, though they warn that proving emotional and psychological abuse remains challenging. Still, said Ms. Dhawan, whose office was involved in drafting the law, “we wanted to start the conversation and name the harm, so that survivors would have the language” to describe their experiences.

The Izambards met in Australia in 2005, when Il Divo, the wildly popular international pop-opera crossover quartet formed by Simon Cowell, was on tour there; by the following year, they were a couple, and Ms. Izambard left her job to move to France with Mr. Izambard, a Paris native. They married in 2008, shortly after the birth of a twin son and daughter, in a pregnancy that was fraught with medical complications.

Mr. Izambard’s controlling behavior began before they were married, according to the suit. On a 2005 vacation to Thailand, he brought her to a brothel and, over her protestations, asked her to watch while he “had a sex act performed on him by two Thai prostitutes,” according to the suit. It was the first of many sexual demands that Mr. Izambard made against Ms. Izambard’s wishes, including pressuring her to have sex in front of other people, urinating on her against her will, and ejaculating on her feet while she slept, the lawsuit said.

Ms. Izambard, who had been Il Divo’s Australian publicist, gave up that career when she became involved with Mr. Izambard, and he at times kept her from working again, refusing to permit her to get a work visa when the couple lived in London from 2010-2013: “Sébastien told Renée her visa would affect his offshore tax scheme,” the suit says. He did not put her name on their bank accounts or property portfolio for many years after they married, the suit says.

He also sought to isolate and control her in other ways, the suit claims: “Sébastien would fly into a jealous rage when Renée called her family or friends in Australia or even if Renée fell asleep or went to bed before Sébastien. When driving in the car together, Sébastien demanded Renée hold his hand at all times.” He watched her on the CCTV system inside their home and tracked her movements outside using the Tesla app, the suit says. He did not permit her to read books in his presence, the suit says.

Ms. Izambard attempted to leave him several times throughout their relationship, the suit says; at first, he promised to change to win her back (he eventually joined a group for sex addicts, according to the suit).

But his behavior continued, and she suffered a “severe emotional breakdown” in 2017, the suit said. Afterward, the suit claims, he denied her medical treatment, kept her in their home and pressured her to make “pornographic video content.”

In an earlier, ongoing case, Ms. Izambard sued her ex-husband and the insurer State Farm for damages related to the 2018 Woolsey fire in California, which destroyed the couple’s Malibu home just days after she filed for divorce. In that suit she charged that Mr. Izambard improperly controlled access to the insurer and its payouts.

The lawsuit filed Monday says that Ms. Izambard and her children “require intensive therapy to deal with the psychological and physical trauma” of Mr. Izambard’s behavior.

Mr. McRae, her attorney, said Ms. Izambard was cleareyed about what her lawsuit might mean for her ex-husband’s career and ultimately for her. “His whole earning capacity might disappear,” Mr. McRae said. But he said that she had filed the suit anyway, out of a belief that such misconduct should be identified, so it can potentially be stopped.

Sebastien – Il Divo

Il Divo may have won the Artist of the Decade award at the Classical Brit Awards at the Royal Albert Hall the evening before we meet, but Sebastien Izambard isn¹t the sort of person who lets such things go to his head. The French singer, already a highly successful pop artist in his native country before Il Divo¹s formation in 2003, is absolutely clear about why the quartet are still able to top the charts worldwide, after seven years. “You can receive all the prizes in the world,” he says, “but if you don¹t have an audience to perform to, well, you can keep your award on the mantelpiece, but what does it give you?” All four of them, Sebastien continues, keep their eye on the ball. “Nothing is ever taken for granted. We¹re very lucky with our record label and management. It¹s all about teamwork. We¹ve had our fair share of criticism over the years, so it felt amazing to have that experience last night, to be reminded of what we have achieved. But the biggest achievement is seeing all the fans out there. And they are still there, seven years on.” In common with Urs, David and Carlos, Sebastien¹s creative life before Il Divo was one of extraordinary diversity ¬ and so it remains. He couldn¹t conceive, he says, of resting on his laurels or limiting his horizons. “As an artist, you should never think, ŒI know how to do this, I¹m fine¹. You need to always question yourself. I don¹t mean dwelling on things in a masochistic way. But you have to evolve, and recognise your weaknesses.” In the past 18 months, Sebastien¹s life has been a hive of activity ¬ but then, it always has been. A tough childhood in Paris taught him to value the important things in life ¬ family, friendship, fulfilment. That attitude is reflected in his long-term involvement raising funds for Assistance Medicale Toit de Monde, a charity that gives support to poor children in India and Nepal. Untrained as a musician, Sebastien learnt to play by ear, and is now a talented and respected songwriter, guitarist and pianist. Prior to Il Divo, he released an acclaimed pop album, Libre, and his single Si Tu Savais topped the French charts. Last year, he even had lessons in both singing – you see what he means about not resting on his laurels – ¬and acting. “You go to the Royal Albert Hal,” he says, “and see all these paintings and photographs, spanning the 18th century to singers such as Rihanna today, and you realise that music has evolved so much. And if you don¹t remember the traditions, the roots of music, you lose the richness. And that¹s what we¹re trying to do in Il Divo, to honour that tradition.¹m from the pop side, so I went backwards. The others are classically trained, and I¹m self-taught; I work with my instincts. But you need both, so I had to gather that knowledge. Without knowledge, you can¹t evolve.” Something slightly more dramatic than singing and acting lessons has turned Sebastien¹s world upside down, however: fatherhood. Already the proud father of twins, he now has a new baby boy, too. “Life has changed for me completely,” he laughs, “and it feels amazing. I¹ve always wanted a family, and I¹ve blossomed, I¹ve found the person I want to be with, I have these beautiful children. I have my family, I travel the world, I¹ve been making music, collaborating with Darren Hayes from Savage Garden, and with the lyricist Don Black ¬ and Il Divo have made an amazing new album. So how can I not feel fortunate? I couldn¹t ask for more. ” When it came to making the new record, Sebastien says, all four members of Il Divo “asked ourselves, ŒHow can we improve this?¹. It was a case of trying to think of Il Divo as a new project. It¹s been a big investment for all of us, in terms of time, and passion, and creativity. We¹re the captains of the ship, and it¹s our responsibility to sail it.” The most crucial thing, he continues, has been the time they¹ve allowed themselves to make the album. “It¹s very ease to burn out; the way the industry works, you can spend your whole life either touring or making the next record. We¹re very lucky in that respect with the label; they know that it also has to be about taking time over things, and recharging our batteries.” Recharged, Sebastien is raring to go. “We are passionate artists, and we try to make great music, because that is what we love.”

Marvelous IL DIVO

Girls, good morning!

On the eve of tomorrow’s IL DIVO concert in Kyiv, I want you closer
meet these wonderful artists. And in Moscow they will be on the 17th,
girls, who allows time and money – go for sure! This is very
beautiful and high quality music.

To say that I love them is just to remain silent)) I am not prone to fanaticism,
but I love them dearly. I was in March at their concert – very much to me
I liked the live performance + it turned out to be a nice bonus that my friend
boyfriend of some Hamburg VIP and we went backstage and talked with the Divas in
informal setting. True, I don’t understand German, but they communicated in
him, but I was happy to just stand next to him and then
took a picture with them))

Il Divo is an international quartet of pop artists with
conservatory training and operatic voices, entered in the book of records
Guinness as the most commercially successful international pop project.
They are the “top” representatives of the classic crossover genre. The quartet was
created in 2003 by Simon Cowell, who was inspired by the success of the 3
tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras). Several years were spent
castings, as a result of which 4 soloists were selected: 3 tenors and 1 baritone.
To be honest, this is the only “unpleasant” nuance that confuses me – Il
Wonderful commercial project, “artificially” created. Debut album
“shot” and hit the first places in many charts. The subsequent ones were not
less successful. This year the guys will celebrate the 10th anniversary, by this date they will
preparing a new album. Conducted several world tours – they collect full houses,
stadiums. They sang a duet with Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Toni Braxton were
performers of the official anthem of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
anniversary of the Queen of England, at some celebration in the White House, before
Obama. Il Divo were named the winners in the “Artist or
Team of the Decade” Classical BRIT Awards 2011
year.

Well, now about the soloists! Good news (on the gossip it really is
relevant! :)) – everyone is heterosexual)))

S:) Stian Izambard is a French singer. Born March 7, 1973. The only one
in a quartet without a classical conservatory education. been enough
a successful solo pop artist before joining a group. Married and has 3
children. Sometimes he forgets the words at concerts, it turns out incredibly funny))

David Miller is an American tenor. Born 14 April 1973 years old. Graduated
Oberlin Conservatory with honors. He has performed at many opera venues,
including the legendary La Scala. Married, wife Sarah Joy is also an opera singer
(soprano).

Urs Buhler is Swiss. Tenor. Born July 19, 1971. Sang in the choir since childhood
and can play many musical instruments. Graduated from the Amsterdam
conservatory. Humor – in his youth he organized and was a soloist in a group,
who played heavy metal)) Is fond of motorcycles. Has a daughter, not married
girl friend. Polyglot. He has some incredible “cat” green
eyes.

Carlos Marin – baritone, Spaniard. My favorite – on my avatar his photo and
the cat was named after this Artist)) Born on October 13, 1968 in
Germany. Graduated from the Madrid Conservatory. Was a successful operatic artist before
Il Divo, also sang in many musicals. I listened to operas with his performance –
Of course, in Il Divo, he does not fully reveal his voice, sorry. Not
married – tells at concerts that he is a “single” and promises everyone beautiful
call the girls in the hall))

I have problems with inserting a video – posts always fly off, so I
just give links to YouTube – listen, please! It’s pleasure and delight
for your ears will be!))

My favorite songs, unfortunately they don’t perform them at concerts:

Ti amero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEn6v3tjh2Y

The man you love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYPMdPSywN4

Semper Semper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUsW5J0iYTE

Regresa a mi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJNzmNB48no Their first song, the video is incredibly beautiful! More precisely, they are
handsome)

This song is a live recording, I really like how they are
have fun at live performances!

My way http://www. youtube.com/watch?v=i7xuYcWMD64

Hallelujah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzB8xC_CwH8

Mom – the clip is sad, but the song is gorgeous! Ode to all mothers! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utm4T6lT7pE

In general, I would like everything! to provide you with their songs, but since this
impossible – I give links to their full concerts))

Il Divo in Barcelona 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtonJi2Ivfc

The Greek Theater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hGKWUQON7k

And finally, the solo song of Carlos, from the musical “Jekyll and Hyde” – I am sooooo
love this song!! Probably the only song I can rip on
million five hundred times

Il Divo vocalist Urs Buhler about Sting, Barbra Streisand, heavy metal and Armani suits: Music: Culture: Lenta.ru

scene. Four good fellows – Swiss Urs Buhler, Spaniard Carlos Marin, Frenchman Sebastien Isambar and American David Miller – perform popular arias from operas and pop hits in intricate arrangements. On the eve of Il Divo’s third visit to Russia, a Lenta.ru correspondent spoke with Urs Buhler, who spoke about the quartet’s craving for hard rock, Armani costumes, and the expectation of success.

Lenta.ru: September concerts in Russia will be the first real tour of Il Divo in our country – six concerts in a row. What do you expect from the Russian audience?

Il Divo : A tour in Russia should not be different from our concerts in any part of the world. Il Divo is quite popular, naturally, we expect a warm and emotional reception from the listeners. Not just emotional, but enthusiastic! Plus, we know very well that classical music is loved in Russia. Part of the concert program consists of classical arias in modern processing – we must be successful. We are coming to Russia for the third time and we know that your audience is very responsive. I would say that this is one of the best audiences we have ever performed in front of.

Is Il Divo a pop group performing a classical repertoire, or are they classical singers masquerading as a pop group?

Il Divo – this pop group, but unusual. We don’t think we’re anything more than we are when we’re playing an unusual repertoire. It wouldn’t occur to us to call ourselves, say, “pop performers for high society listeners.” Although critics often try to call us a boy band for adults and the rich. Well, we are glad, because these “rich” people were enough and they sold out our albums in fantastic quantities!

It is believed that the classical repertoire is difficult for mass perception. How can you explain such a stunning success?

The role of treatments should not be overestimated. We could easily perform a more complex repertoire, make the listener break his head. But complication is uncharacteristic for us. The goal of Il Divo is to capture the widest possible audience. The audience goes to a concert to hear something familiar. My colleagues formulate this as “the desire to hear the obvious.” So, from the classics, we select only the “obvious”. Most of our repertoire is well-known hits, simply performed in a classical manner, partly with new texts in Italian. Italian is a necessary detail of the “obvious”: the audience feels like they are in an opera!

Your latest album, A Musical Affair, consists of numbers from popular Broadway musicals. What determined the choice of musical material?

Our albums up to 2011 were quite colorful and somewhat eclectic collections of classical arrangements. After the release of Greatest Hits in 2012, it became clear: the time had come to record an album united by a different idea. Using compositions from Broadway musicals is a natural step for Il Divo, as long as we want to perform well-known material.

Are you afraid that the Russian listener will be disappointed with the new program? Not all of us are so familiar with Broadway musicals.

No way! I guess our Russian fans are familiar with the A Musical Affair album, and if not, it doesn’t matter. The concert program includes songs from earlier albums, and the best compositions from the last one, and everyone probably knows them – if not performed by Il Divo, then in the original.

They say Il Divo was created through casting?

I agree, it’s rather strange to gather a vocal group of musicians with experience through casting. But, if Simon Cowell had not brought us together, we would hardly ever have met, much less would we have started working together. It wasn’t really Simon that brought us together, it was great music that brought us together. Exactly the kind of music that is worthy of a real professional performance, which gives real pleasure to both the audience in the hall and us on stage.

It is known that the singers in Il Divo are not best friends in real life.

We are professionals first and friends second. In addition, a busy concert schedule requires strict adherence to the regime. We don’t always have time to just discuss something. Our strength is not in friendship, but in professionalism.

How do you see a typical Il Divo fan?

Il Divo has no typical fan! In Japan and South Korea, our audience is more than 2/3 teenagers, which is quite unusual. In Latin America and Spain, the audience is somewhat older. And in other countries of the world where we had a chance to perform, people of different ages come. I am especially pleased that in Russia we saw exactly the same picture, even to the point that there were entire families in the hall.

Il Divo are known for their collaborations with various artists. With whom did you find cooperation most interesting?

I don’t divide artists into the best and the worst – all masters of the highest level. One of the highlights of my career was on tour with Barbra Streisand in 2006. We were a beginner band, Barbra herself invited us to take part in the tour. She is an artist of a caliber that is almost non-existent now. There was no arrogance in her attitude towards Il Divo, it is easy to work with her on stage and communicate with her. Professional, in a word!

Since we are talking about various experiments, what would be the most daring form of cooperation in the future history of your team?

If we are talking about individual artists, it would be interesting to work with Sting. But since the question is about bold forms of collaboration… I think it’s essential for Il Divo to work with a real rock band in the future, and in the style of hard rock or heavy metal. I think our voices combined with electric guitars and drums would sound quite interesting. Probably, my rocker past is affecting (Urs Buhler in the late 80s – early 90’s, under the name Ferris Buhler, was the vocalist of The Conspiracy and recorded one album with them – approx. “Lenty.ru” ), I would really like Il Divo to be on stage with Europe or, even better, with Manowar. But I don’t know how our producers will react to such proposals.

What do you think is the difference between Il Divo and other vocal groups?

The stereotype of a vocal group is another boy band in which unknown young men, after a short vocal and choreographic training, enter the stage of stadiums. So I said, how Il Divo differs from similar bands: we are far from 18 years old, everyone has a huge stage experience and musical education.

They provide the perfect space for flatware, utensils, measuring cups and much more. Bosch offers two different third rack designs with options for increased flexibility such as adjustable tines and deeper storage areas. Our various third racks provide the perfect space for flatware, large utensils, ramekins, measuring cups and even cereal bowls.

8 Best Third-rack Dishwashers of 2023

Written by Mark Brezinski, Jonathan Chan, and Julia MacDougall

Updated November 16, 2022

The best third-rack dishwashers vastly improve the cleaning experience by better using the limited real estate inside dishwashers.

These sliding trays are mainly for silverware and larger utensils, such as ladles and spatulas, but some third racks can also fit smaller bowls and ramekins. Using a third rack also frees up space on the bottom rack by reducing or eliminating the need for a bulky cutlery basket.

In the nearly 15 years we’ve been testing dishwashers here at Reviewed, we’ve found that one of the most important factors in the best dishwashers is usability, something that a third rack adds.

After testing the best third-rack dishwashers on the market, the Miele G 5266 SCVi SFP
(available at Abt for $1,749. 00)

was our favorite because it can fit both utensils and larger items on its top rack, which also can be minimized so you can wash taller items on the second rack.

While the G 5266 is expensive, our list also has third-rack dishwashers that will fit most other budgets. Here are our the best third-rack dishwashers we tested:

Miele

Best Overall

Miele G 5266 SCVi SFP

The Miele G 5266 SCVi SF dishwasher’s third rack can accommodate both utensils and larger items, such as ladles. Additionally, it can slide its left half under itself, making more room for taller dishes on the upper rack, which is also adjustable. The upper rack can be tilted at an angle to help with loading and unloading, as well.

As far as cleaning, this dishwasher delivered nearly spotless dishes during testing, with no redeposit. Its Normal cycle also is nearly 30 minutes faster than average.

Except for its premium price, there’s a lot to love about the G 5266, a great high-end dishwasher that does an excellent job cleaning, has a sleek design, and great functionality.

Other Third-Rack Dishwashers We Tested

Bosch SGX78B55UC

The Bosch 800 Series SGX78B55UC/13 has the extras you expect in a high-end dishwasher, including a traditional third rack that fits oversized utensils.

The SGX78B55UC/13, which has strong cleaning abilities, is ADA-compliant, meaning that it has enhanced accessibility features. It is a bit smaller, which is something to be aware of if your kitchen cabinetry is designed for a standard-sized dishwasher.

Overall, this is an excellent dishwasher that adds ADA accessibility features without sacrificing performance found in other Bosch 800 series models, including the CrystalDry technology, which left dishes perfectly dry during testing.

Bosch SHPM88Z75N

The Bosch 800 Series SHPM88Z75N features a MyWay third rack, which fits utensils, ladles, and small bowls. This dishwasher’s upper rack also adds versatility—it can be adjusted to three heights and even can accommodate vases without issue.

This dishwasher excels at washing dishes. Also, like other models in the 800 series, the SHPM88Z75N features Bosch’s CrystalDry technology, which uses zeolite to dry your dishes.

With a sound rating of 40 dBA, the SHPM88Z75N is what we expect from a Bosch dishwasher: quiet, efficient, and stylish.

Samsung DW80R9950UT

The Samsung DW80R9950UT has it all, including a customizable third rack and adjustable tines on the upper and lower racks so you can fit oddly-shaped dishes in the dishwasher.

In addition to adjustable height, this dishwasher’s third rack has a column at its center that can be lowered for oversized utensils. While we like the third rack’s overall build quality, we didn’t like that it could wobble while sliding on its rails.

This dishwasher has top-notch cleaning abilities, with Normal, Quick, and Heavy cycle options all able to remove more than 97% of food stains during our testing. The DW80R9950UT also has minimal redeposit and near-perfect drying.

If you’re looking for a user-friendly dishwasher loaded with features, it’s worth considering the DW80R9950UT.

Bosch SHPM65Z55N

The Bosch 500 series SHPM65Z55N dishwasher’s third rack is designed so that the bottom edges of its sides can be lowered to make space for deeper bowls.

This dishwasher’s other racks also add functionality—both have tines that can flip down, and the middle rack has wine glass holders that can be reoriented—so you’ll be able to wash many different sizes and types of dishes. And you’ll be able to hold on a conversation while this dishwasher is running, because the SHPM65Z55N is whisper-quiet.

While this Bosch’s cycles are on the longer side, the cleaning results are worth the wait. It blasted through our test food stains during the Normal cycle and removed nearly all of them on Heavy. The Auto Air function, which opens the dishwasher door after a cycle has ended, also is effective at drying dishes.

If you want a Bosch dishwasher but don’t have the budget for a dishwasher in the 800 series, the Bosch 500 series SHPM65Z55N is a great option.

Bosch SHSM63W55N

The Bosch 300 Series SHSM63W55N dishwasher has a third rack, adjustable upper rack, and foldable tines, and it delivers the cleaning prowess, design, and quiet operation the brand is known for.

During testing, the SHSM63W55N removed nearly all of our food stains during testing of its Heavy cycle, and while this 300 Series dishwasher isn’t as quiet as some other models, it’s worth every cent.

KitchenAid KDTM404KPS

The KitchenAid KDTM404KPS dishwasher’s third rack is one of the deepest we’ve ever tested. In addition to a divot that can hold small bowls, cups, and mugs, it also has rotating spray jets to make sure everything gets clean.

In part because of the third rack, this dishwasher can fit more up to 16 place settings, making it a great option for big families. The KDTM404KPS does an excellent job cleaning dishes on its Normal and Tough cycles, and it’s quiet too, with a sound rating of 44 dBA.

Cons
  • Slow cycles

Café CDT875M5NS5

The GE Café CDT875M5NS5, a beautiful high-end dishwasher, has a third rack that will fit oversized utensils and silverware.

There’s a lot to love about this dishwasher, including overall cleaning ability, but the CDT875M5NS5 did struggle with the most stubborn stains during testing. Given its price, the inconsistency is a concern.

The CDT875M5NS5 is beautifully designed, does a good job drying dishes, and has the features you’d expect in a high-end dishwasher.

How We Tested Third-Rack Dishwashers

Credit:
Reviewed

We test a dishwasher’s Quick, Heavy, and Normal cycles by challenging them to clean dishes with baked-on food stains—milk, spinach, egg, oatmeal, meat, and more.

There are three major parts of the dishwasher experience—performance, features, and usability. During our testing, we focus on those factors to find which dishwashers offer good value and which should be avoided.

Performance factors include stain removal, redeposit, cycle length, and drying. To assess stain removal powers, we test each dishwasher on three cycles—Normal, Quick, and Heavy—to see how they clean dishes with food baked on. When testing, we don’t pre-rinse dishes, either.

Dishwashers need to be able to wash and dry dishes, which is why penalize models when any dish comes out wet. We also take note of redeposit, when food debris from one dish gets stuck on another, and how long wash cycles take.

Features and usability go hand-in-hand. A third rack offers you the advantage of having somewhere to stow serving spoons, long knives, skewers, and other kitchen utensils that don’t fit in a dishwasher’s cutlery basket or can potentially fall out of the upper rack—no one wants a chef’s knife impaling their foot. It should slide smoothly and allow for an optimum wash.

What You Should Know About Dishwashers With Third Racks

What is the Third Rack in a Dishwasher for?

Third racks allow people to more efficiently use the vertical space in their dishwashers by fitting items above the upper rack, including silverware and oversized utensils.

Most third racks also can accommodate smaller bowls and ramekins. By washing utensils in the third rack, you can create more usable space on the bottom rack for dishwasher-safe pots and pans, as the third rack often reduces the need for a cutlery basket.

In general, third racks are not best for heavily soiled dishes, as they typically don’t have spray jets and rely on water from the washing arms at the bottom of the appliance.

How to Load a Third Rack Dishwasher

Most of the dishwashers with third racks that we reviewed have dedicated spots for silverware that prevent “nesting.”

When loading your dishwasher, oversized utensils, such as mixing spoons, spatulas, and ladles, can be placed in a single layer on flat portions of a third rack.

If your third rack has tines for cups and small bowls, be sure to not overload the tray.

Is a Third Rack in a Dishwasher Worth it?

Until recently, a third rack was a premium feature only available on high-end dishwashers. Now, they’re more frequently seen in less expensive models. Third racks make good use of a dishwasher’s space.

Although third racks are more common, you may have to pay more money for a dishwasher that has one.

Why is there a third basket in the dishwasher?

Dishwashers, like other modern appliances, make our life much more comfortable. Functional devices will help you deal with the mountain of dirty dishes left after preparing dinner or a feast. Thanks to the presence of special modes, dishwashers cope even with serious pollution. Contrary to popular belief, cars consume very few resources: water, electricity and household chemicals. When choosing a dishwasher, you should pay attention to the zoning of the washing chamber, especially the presence of a third basket.

Dishwasher unit

The market offers a large number of built-in and freestanding models from different manufacturers. The work surface should be made of durable metal (ideally stainless steel). The inner chamber accommodates 2-3 drawers for dishes (they are commonly called “baskets”) and several rocker arms with nozzles (sprinklers) responsible for the uniform distribution of water. The lower basket is for pans, pots and other large items, while the upper basket is for plates, cups and glasses.

To effectively clean dirt from dishes, you must load the dishwasher correctly (the rules are described in detail in the instructions). In the process of washing, it is better to use only those household chemicals recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment. Before buying a dishwasher, be sure to pay attention to the presence of leakage protection, the energy efficiency class of the device and the ability to work with multi-component detergents (3 in 1).

Benefits of the third basket

Many modern dishwashers are equipped with a third compartment in addition to the two standard baskets (lower and upper). It is located in the ceiling part of the washing chamber, where the top spray arm is usually installed. The third basket has been designed to solve the problem of accommodating small items. The additional compartment is usually square or rectangular and is ideal for cutlery (spoons, forks and knives) and auxiliary kitchen accessories (ladles, mixer or blender attachments).

The third basket not only cleans your cutlery perfectly, it also dries faster than other drawers. This is due to the proximity of the water sprinkler, which covers the entire compartment.

Getting Started With DVR Security Camera Systems

  • What are DVR security systems?

DVR (Digital Video Recorder) systems are traditional camera surveillance systems using analog cameras, coaxial cables, and a DVR recorder. The analog cameras connect to the recorder through the coaxial cables, transmitting unprocessed video signals. Once the signals reach the recorder, they can be processed and made available for digital viewing.

  • How are DVR security systems different from NVR systems?

DVR and NVR surveillance systems use different types of cameras, shaping how each system operates. DVR systems use analog cameras that connect to a DVR using coaxial cable. The video signals from the cameras are converted from analog to digital by the recorder.

NVR systems, on the other hand, use advanced IP, or internet protocol, cameras. These cameras can process video data themselves, instead of relying on the recorder to convert footage, allowing for wireless transmission.

This gives NVR systems greater flexibility, as they can operate either wirelessly or with Ethernet cables. DVR surveillance systems are strictly wired – there are no wireless DVR security systems.

  • What are the benefits and drawbacks of DVR systems?

The main benefit of a DVR camera system is the cost. DVR systems are significantly more affordable than NVR systems, mainly due to the lower cost of analog cameras. This savings is especially appealing if you’re unsure about incorporating Wi-Fi into your security network.

If you have spotty internet, no internet, or Wi-Fi security concerns, a DVR system may be a better choice for you than a wired NVR system. DVR systems are dependable, affordable, and relatively straightforward. And, with recent advancements in analog high definition, the gap in quality between NVR and DVR systems has significantly lessened.

However, if you’re still looking for something more advanced or with greater flexibility, DVR surveillance systems may not be for you. DVR systems tend to have lesser flexibility, picture quality, ease of installation, and audio capabilities than their NVR counterparts.

  • How many cameras can I connect to my DVR recorder?

The number of cameras, or channels, that a recorder can support depends on the specific model. Swann DVR recorders can support anywhere from 4 to 16 channels.

  • How do I see the video footage?

The Swann Security app for iOS or Android allows you to access live or playback video wherever you are. NVR systems come with a hard drive to locally store (usually up to 2TB of) data. There is also the option to back up some of the camera footage on the cloud.

  • How long will my footage be available on the recorder?

Swann DVR recorders have massive 1-2TB hard drives, allowing for footage to be stored for up to one year at no additional cost to you.

  • How can I permanently save footage?

You can permanently save images and video in your personal Dropbox account in the cloud, or transfer footage to a USB memory stick or hard drive for safekeeping.

  • If I buy a Swann DVR System are there any monthly fees to worry about?

No. There are no ongoing fees to install and operate your system and there is ample free local storage included with every Swann DVR.

  • What internet speed do I need for a wired DVR camera system?

Multi-stream wired surveillance systems typically require broadband internet connection at the premises where the cameras are located with upload bandwith of 2Mbps or greater.
