Delux M800 RGB 2.4Ghz Wireless + Wired Gaming Mouse Dual Mode 16000 DPI Lightweight Ergonomic 1000Hz Mice with Soft…

Design & Build Quality

Let’s start with the design. The look and feel of the mouse are excellent and there’s not much to say as the Delux M800 is a Viper clone in terms of looks and a lightweight of just 58 grams which makes it handy for claw or finger grips. The matte finish is smooth to the touch and leaves no residue and sweat marks.

On the front it comes with a USB c port for charging (you can use the mouse while charging), the sides have a kind of rubber coating that provides a good amount of grip without feeling sticky or soft. It has two thumb buttons on the left, a DPI toggle button behind the scroll wheel, and other buttons everywhere you’d expect. There is also a small 2.4 GB USB-A dongle at the bottom. The sensor compartment is noticeable but well assembled.

The RGB lighting is very good – not the best, but it is good enough and can be customized in its software. Whereas, at the back, there is RGB lighting with an X mark and below it on the side, in addition to the scroll wheel. To change the light mode, tap the scroll wheel back at the same time to select preset lighting effects or just turn off the light without a driver.

In terms of construction, the mouse looks a bit hollow but overall it is solid and sturdy. Sure, it has a few squeaks and rattles especially if you press hard on the sides with the possibility of activating both side buttons, but it’s not a big deal that affects your gameplay or the quality of the product, though it is the biggest weakness of the mouse so if you rely on Mainly side buttons, I wouldn’t recommend using this mouse.

Overall Performance

Moving on to the performance aspect, this mouse comes with one of two sensors. I chose the PAW3335 version, and you should too since it’s a few dollars more expensive and it’s a lot better. This sensor is a fairly low-power and high-performance version; With 5 DPI gears (400/800/1600/3200/5000, setting up to 16,000DPI via driver), 400IPS, 40ACC, and 1000 refresh rate, and a light switch of 60 million clicks. Everything I need can be set on the mouse without resorting to software but if you want to use custom DPIs or customize RGB, you can use Delux.

One of the main selling points of the M800. Wireless is 2.4GHz and is provided by a small dongle. I didn’t notice any input lags, disconnections, or general issues with the wireless feature. The I/O tests for the wireless peripherals were very good with results all ranging from 0ms to 1ms.

Software

The software holds different sections for setup. Lighting, DPI, Parameter, and Macro. Simply specify the keys in any desired function; Adjust mouse sensitivity, double-click speed, scroll speed, polling rate and create any automation by setting the macro. Especially with the battery capacity indicator, just check the battery status via the driver.

Battery Life

Delux M800 has a built-in 500mAh rechargeable battery, up to 50 hours of use on a single power charge. With that being said with 5 to 14 hours of daily use between gaming, browsing and school work with RGB enabled and 1000Hz polling, you’ll get about 2-4 days before you get the blinking red lights. But with RGB cancel and 1000hz poll, you will get about 4-5 days or about a week and a half if in general use.

Final Verdict

Overall, this is a very sturdy little mouse for $40, you get what you pay for. If you’re looking for a small wireless mouse that won’t break the bank, this may be it, just be sure to get the 3335 version.

Any sandwich enthusiast knows that a pressed sandwich is pretty hard to beat—the bread is crispy and toasted, while the interior is warm and the cheese is ultra melty. Ever had a Cuban? This classic sandwich with ham and cheese is probably the most well-known pressed sandwich—and for good reason.

Whether you’re constantly making sandwiches or want a countertop appliance that can also cook burgers, wraps, burritos, quesadillas, bacon, veggies, and steaks, a sandwich press is a fun and useful gadget to have in your kitchen; we listed our favorites below.

Cuisinart Griddler Review

This Cuisinart griddler will take your sandwiches (and more) to the next level. It’s a contact grill, panini press, full grill, full griddle, and half grill/half griddle all in one—it has five different BPA-free nonstick cooking surfaces, all of which are removable and dishwasher-safe. (You can also order an optional waffle plate!) The floating cover allows you to adjust the height of the press depending on what you’re cooking, too, allowing it to stay parallel with the bottom plate while giving ample room for thick Cubans and hefty cuts of meat. You also have the option of opening it up to grill or griddle flat. Knobs on the front of the device control the functions and heat levels.

We first laid it flat to grill onions, seemingly a simple task, but onions need to cook slowly to avoid burning—we’re happy to report that went well. We were also able cook sliced mushrooms on one side and zucchini on the other as well as two sandwiches at once, though the bottom side tended to cook at a higher heat than the top. When using it as a contact grill, steaks and burgers received nice grill marks. Better yet, the nonstick plates are actually satisfactorily nonstick: Burned-on cheese slid off like a dream.

One potential flaw we found was that in its flat configuration, one side sat at a slightly steeper angle than the other. This became beneficial, though, when we cooked eggs or pancakes on the flatter side and sausages on the other half: Grease drained more efficiently into the drip tray. Speaking of which, the drip tray is pretty well hidden, which is great because you don’t necessarily want to see that; just don’t forget it’s there because it does need to be washed after use.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

This budget-friendly sandwich press from Hamilton Beach costs less than $50 and can grill two to three sandwiches of any thickness, thanks to the cafe-style floating lid. While there are no temperature controls, the maker features power and preheat lights (it takes about six minutes for the plates to warm up), and when it turns from red to green, it’s ready to cook. There’s no need to flip your Reuben or quesadilla halfway through, either. Both top and bottom nonstick plates heat and brown your bread for you.

What’s cool about this model is that it also has a lid-lock feature, so you can make open-faced sandwiches, bruschetta, and even pizza. The bottom plate will cook the underside of your meal, while the top plate hovers overhead without coming into contact. To clean, unplug and let this fully cool first, wipe the cooking surfaces with a paper towel to remove drippings (there is no drip tray) and use a plastic spatula to get rid of cooked-on food, and then take a damp sponge with dish soap to take care of the rest. Upright storage allows you to stow this away in a cabinet with ease.

Price at time of publish: $45

Cooking Surface: 10 x 8 inches per plate; 2-slice capacity | Features: Lid-lock mechanism for open-faced sandwiches, pizza | Material: Plastic housing | Total Size: 4.5 x 12.6 x 11.6 inches | Warranty: Limited 5-year warranty | Power: 1,400 watts

What We Like

  • Crush control feature avoids squishing sandwiches

  • Comes to full heat very quickly

  • Option for open-faced sandwiches

What We Don’t Like

If making awesome sandwiches is your love language, then maybe you want to go all out and buy the fanciest, nicest press on the market. This one from Breville is designed with a “crush control” hinge design, which applies just enough pressure to toast the exterior of the bread without squishing the entire sandwich. There is also a height control that allows you to fluctuate between different levels depending on the size of your sandwich or keep it locked open, with the top plate hovering above an open-faced sandwich, flatbread, or fragile, flaky croissant.

The grates are coated with PFOA-free nonstick to ensure everything will peel away from the press after cooking. It can hold up to two sandwiches at once; however, its modest size also means that it’s quite easy to store (this can be stowed away upright, by the way) and use on your countertop. Even though it’s more expensive than some other models, its unrivaled results make it a worthwhile splurge.

Price at time of publish: $111

Cooking Surface: 2-slice capacity | Features: Crush control, lid-locking open melt position | Material: Brushed stainless steel housing, aluminum cooking plates | Total Size: 5 x 12. 5 x 11.5 inches | Warranty: Limited 1-year warranty | Power: 1,500 watts

What Our Experts Say

“My ideal material for a panini press is cast iron as it retains heat the best and has a very high temperature retention,” says TikTok creator Owen Han. “One key component I always look for in a press is a drip tray. This is very helpful in making sure grease and oil do not get all over the place. When it comes to temperature, I look for markings on the unit to indicate temperature settings and make sure it does not take too long to heat up. I also look for a lid that hinges well for thicker sandwiches.”

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

While many panini presses accompany just two slices of bread, this one can handle up to four, and the floating hinge adjusts the cover accordingly if you have a large sandwich to press. For added versatility, it also opens up at 180 degrees for grilling homemade burgers; boneless steaks, poultry, and fish; vegetables; and anything else your heart desires. There is no temperature control on this model, but there are light indicators: red for power and green for when the maker is done preheating. In total, it takes about two minutes to warm up.

No need to worry about cleaning up because the nonstick coating is super low-maintenance and easy to wash. You don’t even have to pay mind to grease and other liquids—there’s a removable drip tray to take care of the run-off for you. Just make sure to wash this and the nonstick plates after every use. (The plates aren’t removable, but can be wiped down with warm, soapy water once the appliance has cooled.)

Price at time of publish: $29

Cooking Surface: 4-slice capacity | Includes: Removable drip tray, opens flat | Features: Opens flat | Material: Stainless steel housing | Total Size: 13 x 10 x 4 inches (available in 2 or 4 slice) | Warranty: 1-year parts and labor warranty | Power: 1,000 watts

Prep Tip

If using soft or liquid ingredients to make a sandwich, scoop some of the bread out from the inside of the loaf to make a cup to keep those fillings better contained.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

If you’re looking for a manual cast iron sandwich press, your best bet is this heavy-duty option, featuring the high-heat capabilities and durability of well-seasoned PTFE- and PFOA-free cast iron. It weighs 3 pounds, with equalized weight distribution, which means it can apply a good deal of pressure to whatever it is that you’re cooking on the grill, campfire, or stovetop. The wooden handle is not only stylish, but it also stays cool to the touch during cooking, so you can think more about the toasty grilled cheese or crispy bacon you’re about to eat and less about scorched fingers.

Use this press to sear everything from sandwiches, burgers, and steak to bacon and other thin cuts of meat, creating evenly cooked food every time—no raw or overcooked sections in sight. This is 8.5 inches in diameter, an ideal size for your favorite small or medium frying pan.

Price at time of publish: $30

Features: Stay-cool handle | Material: Food-grade, PTFE- and PFOA-free cast iron | Total Size: 8.5 inches in diameter | Weight: 3 pounds | Dishwasher-Safe: No | Warranty: 5-year limited warranty

What We Like

  • Assembles everything in one device

  • Compact

  • Nonstick and dishwasher-safe

  • Takes just five minutes

What We Don’t Like

Breakfast sandwiches are pretty easy to make already, but if you want a McMuffin-level meal, this compact maker gets everything taken care of in the same appliance. Here are the steps: After the green light comes on to indicate that the plates are adequately heated, add your first bread slice and precooked meat and/or cheese into the bottom compartment (you can even add avocado or vegetables at this point!), crack an egg onto the nonstick egg plate, add your second bread slice on top of the egg, and then slide the egg plate out once the egg is done cooking to finish it off.

To get it out of the maker and onto your plate, carefully lift the cover and ring assembly wearing oven mitts and remove the assembled sandwich with a heat-resistant plastic or wooden spatula to avoid scratching the surface. This takes about four to five minutes from start to finish. If you plan on making another one, just wait two minutes to make sure the plates are heated to the correct temperature again.

This maker can’t accommodate a standard slice of sandwich bread, but it can fit English muffins, biscuits, and mini bagels. Use a nonstick cooking spray on the cooking plates and rings before each use, and wash by hand or in the dishwasher after each use.

Price at time of publish: $30

Includes: Removable ring assembly | Material: Plastic housing | Total Size: 7.3 x 6.3 x 5.6 inches | Warranty: 1-year limited warranty | Power: 600 watts

Good to Know

To avoid egg leaking, make sure the egg plate is preheated and slid fully into place. The manufacturer recommends using large eggs or smaller (fried or scrambled) to avoid overfilling or fresh egg whites only (no store-bought egg whites). Do not push the handle down, either, as it’s intended to hover above the bread and will rise as the egg cooks.

This mini press can cook your burger, grill your pineapple, and make your sandwich. It’s perfect for English muffins, bagels, burger buns, and other round breads, but it might not fit standard square-shaped sandwich bread quite as well because of its 4-inch round shape. Not just for home kitchens, it’s also great for any space that doesn’t have room for a large press, like an RV or boat. The grill plate can’t be removed, and the unit can’t be immersed, but users say that the nonstick surface makes it easy to wipe clean after cooking, and the small size stores easily.

Cooking Surface: 4 inches | Material: Plastic housing, PTFE-free nonstick plates | Total Size: 2. 8 x 6.4 x 5 inches | Warranty: 1-year manufacturer warranty, 2-year warranty available with registration to the Feel Good Rewards Program | Power: 350 watts

Final Verdict

The Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler is our winner because it offers so much versatility with five different cooking surfaces and has a floating cover to allow any size sandwich to become the best, toastiest version of itself. For a budget pick, we chose the Hamilton Beach Electric Panini Press Grill With Locking Lid.

What to Look for in Sandwich Presses

Size and Capacity

One of the most important things to consider is the size of the press. The larger the appliance, the more room you’ll have to make sandwiches and wraps, though it will come at the price of counter space and storage space. If you find yourself cooking for large groups of people or a family, it may be in your best interest to go for something with more surface area. Keep in mind that it’s easier to squeeze more into a rectangular-shaped press as opposed to a circular press.

 Additional Parts and Surfaces

Some sandwich presses come with multiple removable surfaces so that they’re easy to clean. They also allow you to switch between grilling, griddling, and other cooking surfaces. This way, you not only can make pressed sandwiches, but you can also fry eggs and bacon and toast bagels and muffins. “This isn’t a must-have, but if the grills can be removed, it’s a plus since they can go in the dishwasher,” says Han. Keep in mind that some presses allow you to slightly tilt your cooking surface, which is ideal if you’re cooking steaks or bacon so that the grease can safely drip away from the food and, even better, into a drip container.

Display Panel

Some presses don’t have any sort of panel whereas others boast an LCD display so that you can toggle with temperature, timers, tilt/height levels, and specific cooking modes. Of course, if you just want a basic sandwich press solely for pressing sandwiches, all of these added features may be excessive, but if you really plan to use this appliance for sandwiches and beyond, these added control functions could be extremely useful. Of course, these added bells and whistles will make for a more costly appliance.

FAQs

How do you clean a sandwich press?

Before cleaning a sandwich press, make sure that it’s unplugged and has fully cooled down from cooking. Taking a clean rag or sponge wet with warm, soapy water, gently wipe the surface and the body of the press. If there are any grooves in the board, make sure to get into those nooks and crannies to remove any residual grease. If anything is really stuck on there, avoid metal utensils and opt for a plastic spatula to chip them off. Some presses come with dishwasher-safe parts, too.

What is a pressed sandwich?

A pressed sandwich is any sandwich that is warmed, and a sandwich press is used to apply pressure and gently press the contents of the sandwich close together. This toasts the bread and warms the components of the sandwich for a hot, cheesy meal. While you can get creative and use household items like heavy pans or bricks to make a pressed sandwich, it’s much easier and convenient to use a sandwich press.

What else can you use a sandwich press for?

Sandwich presses typically are two grooved, nonstick surfaces, so you can also use them to cook things like bacon, burgers, chicken, veggies, or anything else that you might put on a grill grate. You can press hash browns, burritos, wraps, quesadillas, or even make homemade waffle cones.

How hot does a sandwich press get?

Sandwich presses typically hover around 350 F to 500 F, anything cooler will not achieve a good enough sear, and anything hotter could cause smoking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best sandwich maker?

Any one of Borosil’s sandwich makers are really the best sandwich makers around. Borosil has a versatile range of sandwich makers to cater to different household requirements, but the one thing that is common across them all is that they make the best grill sandwiches! The sandwich plates need little to no oil for cooking, and the end result is a sandwich that is always evenly crispy without being burnt.

What can you make in a sandwich maker?

You can use a sandwich maker to make the humble aloo toastie or grill a restaurant-quality grill cheese sandwich. But don’t just limit yourself to savoury goodies- a grill sandwich maker can also be used to make delicious sweet creations such as Nutella sandwiches or the perennial favourite – PBJ aka Peanut Butter & Jam sandwiches.

Which is better: a toaster or sandwich maker?

Both, a toaster and a sandwich maker, have different uses and are equally useful to have in the kitchen. A toaster will do as the name suggests – toast bread and does not have a sandwich grill plate whereas a sandwich maker is generally used to prepare grilled sandwiches, perfect when you need a quick breakfast or snack

Which is the best grilled sandwich maker?

All Borosil grill sandwich makers are equally good – choose a model based on your requirements. The grilling plates are non-stick with grooves that provide the perfect sear on the bread. The handles are also stay-cool to prevent finger burns while you’re handling a hot appliance. They also come with an auto cut-off feature so you don’t have to worry about burnt sandwiches! Our Super Jumbo Grill opens 180° to become like a flat grill so that you can also use it to grill vegetables, paneer etc.

Can we toast bread in a sandwich maker?

A sandwich maker or a griller is not recommended for toasting bread. If a toaster is what you’re looking for, we have some really great pop-up toasters as well for your kitchen

What is the difference between Grill and Sandwich Maker?

A grill sandwich maker has grooves on the grill plate that provide that perfect sear on your bread.Though they can be used for making sandwiches, it is not your only option. They can be used to grill meat, vegetables, and any number of eatables that you can think of grilling. A sandwich maker will help you make what are popularly known as toasties. There will not be any sear marks on your bread though as these appliances do not have grooves on the heating plate.

Is a sandwich maker healthy?

Most sandwich makers these days come with non-stick heating plates that need little to no oil for cooking. So yes, a sandwich maker is healthy just as long as the ingredients in your sandwiches are healthy too!

Which waffle maker is best?

There are several types of waffle makers available in the market today. The best type, really, depends on how much you plan to use one. There are mostly two types of waffle makers that are most popular – flip waffle makers and then there are the regular waffle makers. Flip waffle makers have to be flipped at least twice whereas the normal electric waffle maker does not require any flipping.

What can I make in a waffle maker?

You can use the waffle maker to prepare sweet or savoury waffles! They are a great addition to your regular breakfast fare and really, everyone just loves a good waffle!

Which waffle maker makes crispy waffles?

The Borosil Neo Waffle Maker is really the best one out there! It makes the tastiest, most delicious waffles – crispy, honey golden on the outside and soft on the inside.

Why do you have to flip a waffle maker?

The type of waffle makers that require flipping are the aptly named flip waffle makers. This is done to ensure that the waffles are evenly cooked all the way through. However, the Borosil Neo Waffle Maker does not require any flipping.

What are the benefits of a sandwich & waffle maker?

If you are looking for healthy shortcuts that are tasty as well, a sandwich fits as the perfect choice. Also, for those days when your sweet cravings are at their peak, homemade waffles can add to the mood without exceeding calories. Considering health and taste simultaneously, you can always invest in a sandwich & waffle maker of choice. These instruments are super easy to use, can be cleaned conveniently, and are light on the pocket.

Also, adding one to your kitchen will save much time on meal preparation, and you can now focus on other important tasks at home. With kids, a waffle and sandwich maker can help you add a new dimension to the same old preparation.

Recipe description

Grilled ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches have a crispy bread crust and an appetizing “core”. Such hot sandwiches are much more convenient than ordinary sandwiches to take with you as a snack to work, to an educational institution, on a picnic or during a trip out of town, because during cooking the cheese melts and holds together the rest of the ingredients of the filling and slices of bread, therefore these sandwiches do not fall apart and keep their shape. Hot, warm or even cold, grilled sandwiches will appeal to everyone without exception!

ProCase kickstand case

Amazon

This ultra-slim and lightweight case doesn’t add a lot of bulk but still lets you use it as a kickstand. And the stand functions both in viewing mode and typing mode so that you can use your Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 in various ways. There’s a soft microfiber interior lining, so your tablet’s screen will stay safe, while the rigid back design offers durable protection.

Fintie case

Amazon

It features a large, easy-to-grasp handle at the top and is made from soft EVA foam that’s anti-slip for additional grip, while raised bezels help keep the screen safe. It also functions like a kickstand, so children can watch videos or play games on easily. And with five fun colors, including blue, black, grey, red, and purple, to choose from, it’s great for kids and adults alike.

Grifobes folio case

Amazon

You can set this leather case for the Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 at multiple angles for easy viewing, while the pocket on the front holds some papers, cash, or cards. You can choose from brown, black, blue, or blue and gray to suit your tastes. Plus, the cutouts on the case still let you access all your tablet’s functions without taking it out.

Timecity protective case

Amazon

Another entry in the phone-case-like options is this Timecity case. It has a multi-layer design and a charging port cover that hinges out of the way to keep out dirt and grime. An adjustable kickstand lets you put your Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 in the perfect position, too.

Poetic Revolution full coverage case

Amazon

Poetic Revolution offers another option if you want a case that comes with a screen cover. It’s made of TPU to provide durable protection while port covers keep dirt at bay. Around the back are raised bezels to protect the camera lenses from impacts and bumps. A kickstand makes using your Galaxy Tablet A7 10.4 a breeze, while a lanyard attachment point offers another way to tote it around.

Sales (Style)

Give your home the audio boost it deserves.

A Sonos sale is a rare occasion, so when one pops up, we listen. The coveted home audio brand offers excellent high-end speakers, arguably the best on the market, combining elite sound quality with sleek and attractive hardware. Typically, you can only get a deal on Sonos if you’re willing to grab a refurbished model—which, in all honesty, is a smart move since refurbs are guaranteed to work like a brand new speaker anyway.

Anyone who’s been waiting for a Sonos sale can finally stop holding their breath now. Just in time to score a gift ahead of Father’s Day, Sonos is slashing prices on its speakers and home theater sound systems by up to 25% off.

From the brand’s excellent mini portable speaker, the Roam, to its bass-heavy subwoofer, almost every GQ-approved speaker is on sale. Trouble figuring out what speakers are for you? We have a handy little breakdown of all the best Sonos speakers for every kind of audiophile. There’s really something for every kind of sound lover, whether you need a speaker to pair with your fancy turntable or you actually care who wins the Oscar for best sound mixing. Shop the Sonos sale now because we’re really not sure when (or if) this will ever happen again.

All products featured on GQ are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

  • Sonos Roam

When the Roam first came out, we called it “Sonos’ first essential speaker.” The ultra-portable speaker still feels just as necessary today as it did two years ago.

    $179 $134 at Sonos

  • Sonos Move

From the bedside to the poolside, the Move is the speaker you buy when you need to bring your tunes everywhere you go.

    $399 $299 at Sonos

  • Sonos Beam (2nd generation)

One of the best things you can do to improve your TV’s subpar sound quality is to hook it up to a soundbar.

    $499 $399 at Sonos

  • Sonos Arc

The Arc is Sonos’ higher-end soundbar, and it offers 3D Dolby Atmos, which sort of feels like the sound is coming from all around you, even if you don’t have an actual surround-sound system.

    $899 $719 at Sonos

  • Sonos One SL

Sonos might be phasing out the One (and One SL) for the Era 100, but we can’t neglect the legacy of these flagship bookshelf speakers just because something new has come out.

    $199 $159 at Sonos

  • Sonos Ray

This entry-level soundbar is out of sight but its big sound will make its presence known.

    $279 $223 at Sonos

  • Sonos Sub (3rd generation)

For those who are all about that bass, the Sub is the speaker you need to get the ground thumping.

    $799 $639 at Sonos

Most Popular

  • Sonos Roam SL

To save an extra few bucks on the Sonos Roam, opt for the Roam SL, which nixes the voice control but keeps everything else that’s great about the portable speaker.

    $159 $119 at Sonos

  • Sonos Indoor/Outdoor Set (Era 100 and Move)

The only way to score a discount on Sonos’ new bookshelf speaker, the Era 100, is to get it in a bundle with the brand’s portable smart speaker, which isn’t a bad deal (or idea) at all.

There’s even a Sonos car audio system – and, if rumours are to be believed, there might even be some Sonos headphones in the pipeline.

But which Sonos product is right for you? And where can you get the lowest price? Read on for our comprehensive round-up of every product in the Sonos family, and to see our constantly updated deals that will ensure you get the best possible price.

Sonos Era 300

Sonos’s latest wireless speaker is the Era 300, its first model designed for spatial audio. Hence the unique cinched hourglass design. It’s also the first third-party device to support Spatial Audio on Apple Music, and Sonos’s first speaker with both Bluetooth and line-in support (the latter comes via USB-C, though you’ll also need an adapter, which costs £19 / $19 / AU$35). The sound is superb, much more engrossing and high quality than other speakers in its class and price range, and it blows the (admittedly cheaper) Apple HomePod 2 out of the water in terms of sound quality. It’s certainly pricey though – keep an eye on the widget below for a deal.

Sonos Era 100

The Era 300 is joined by the Era 100, a less powerful model that’s not equipped for spatial audio. It replaces the Sonos One, and brings some big improvements – it outputs in stereo, whereas the One only played in mono. Like the Era 300 above, it too packs both Bluetooth and a USB-C line-in port, and a new volume slider on the top panel. Also like the Era 300, it can handle 24-bit music files from a supported streaming service like Qobuz and Amazon Music Unlimited. And the sound? Very good indeed, with a soundstage much wider than you would expect from a speaker this size. At £249 / $249 / AU$399, it’s pricier than the Sonos One it replaces, but check back on this page and you might find a bargain.

Sonos Ray

Sonos doesn’t just do premium. For proof, check out the Sonos Ray, its most affordable soundbar. There are no HDMI ports nor Dolby Atmos or Bluetooth support, but it still offers all the features and functionality of the Sonos wireless family. The sound is punchy and detailed, albeit far less room-filling than the bigger models in the range. The bass resonance issues that plagued the Ray at launch have recently been improved by a recent software update, vastly improving its performance and upgrading it to a worthwhile budget soundbar for you to consider.

Sonos Roam

Finally a truly portable Sonos Bluetooth speaker. Much lighter and smaller than the Move, see below, the new Roam is IP67 rated, meaning complete water and dust resistance and its built-in battery has the stamina for up to 10 hours of playback. The Sonos Roam comes with a USB-C charging cable and is compatible with standard Qi wireless chargers. You can use the Sonos app and get all of the normal features, or play music over AirPlay or Bluetooth. It’s a party-starting sound, too, with punch and bass, and plenty of excitement. You might get a clearer, more detailed sound from the very best Bluetooth speakers at this price, but thanks to everything Sonos offers, the Roam remains a good option.

Sonos Move

Before the Roam, the Sonos Move was the first portable Bluetooth Sonos speaker, albeit a large and heavy one. Sonos managed to deliver good quality sound, with an open delivery that goes nice and loud. Thanks to the battery and new wireless connection option, the Sonos Move is pretty much ideal for anyone who’s been waiting for a more versatile Sonos speaker. It is on the expensive side, putting it up against some stronger sonic competition, and surprisingly chunky for a portable speaker, but otherwise the Move is a fine option.

Sonos Beam (2nd Gen)

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 is simply the best Dolby Atmos soundbar at this price point. The Beam Gen 2 not only lives up to the high bar set by its predecessor (below) but exceeds it by a margin that more than justifies its new feature set and higher cost. The decision by Sonos to use processing power and forward-facing drivers to recreate Dolby Atmos has paid off with a more capable and effective handling of the format than many more expensive soundbars with upward-firing drivers.

Atmos aside, it sounds incredible, reaching deeper than the Beam Gen 1 with more refinement, a warmer treble, and wider dynamic range. Where the Beam Gen 1 might skim over certain complex sounds the Gen 2 has a greater capacity to take them on, consistently resulting in a richer, more nuanced and varied listening experience.

Sonos Beam (1st Gen)

The Sonos Beam was the first Sonos speaker to add an HDMI connection. This means it’s ideal for boosting the sound from your TV, while also giving you all the familiar Sonos multi-room music features. Sonos One

The Sonos One remains one of the cheapest Sonos wireless speakers (even more so now that it’s being replaced by the Sonos Era 100) – and now it’s even better value, thanks to a Gen 2 update. The differences between the two are slight. The Gen 2 gets Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), an updated processor, and increased memory, but the sound quality and feature set remains the same. And you can make a saving on the Sonos One right now.

Sonos Arc

The best Sonos soundbar? It just might be. The Sonos Arc isn’t cheap but it does add Dolby Atmos to the party and deliver the most impressive version of surround sound we’ve heard from a Sonos speaker, and indeed, one of the best from any soundbar on the market. And of course it’s also a multi-room wireless speaker with app and voice control, plus access to practically every music streaming service on the planet.

If you prefer a soundbase to a soundbar, then the Playbase is your only option where Sonos is concerned. Actually, make that was your only option, as it too has been discontinued. It creates a big, broad soundstage and a solid, natural bass. It’s also aesthetically stylish and reassuringly well put together. The treble can be a bit edgy when it gets really loud but it’s still a fine buy if you can actually find one that’s discounted.

Like the majority of Sonos’s wireless speakers, the Play:3 is another cracking performer and if you can find one, then you should get a good price. Sonos IKEA Symfonisk table lamp speaker

Bookshelf speaker too obvious for you? How about a table lamp that doubles as a wi-fi speaker? Again, this strange idea actually works well, the Sonos IKEA Symfonisk table lamp speaker slots completely into the Sonos family and offering all of the features of a standard Sonos speaker, complete with the addition of the lamp (add your own bulb). It’s a good-sounding speaker but far from a great one and plenty of rivals at this price will deliver far better sound, albeit minus the illumination. The choice, is yours.

Sonos Sub Mini

The Sub Mini is designed to mix and match with any of Sonos’s full range speakers. Though because of its diminutive size, it’s recommended to partner with some of its smaller, more affordable models such as the Beam Gen 2, Ray, One, One SL or Symfonisk speakers in small to medium-sized rooms.

Connectivity is via a low-latency 5 GHz WiFi connection, which means the Sub Mini only requires a cable for power. Once added to a soundbar or speaker system, volume changes between the two are linked automatically. However, bass level and EQ can be adjusted independently in the Sonos app, where it can also be optimised to the acoustics of your space using Sonos’s Trueplay tuning technology.

With a space-saving cylindrical design measuring just 23cm by 30.5 cm, the Sub Mini uses a clever driver layout to help maximise its performance while producing a claimed low-frequency response down to 25 Hz. The Sub Mini could be the ideal choice for those looking to bring a touch of low-end to a smaller space.

Best Monitor for MacBook Pro

The best MacBook Pro monitors include the Dell 27020Q UltraSharp Monitor, Gigabye M27Q, and the LG 34BK95U UltraFine Ultrawide Monitor

Apple’s computers are powerful tools with fantastic displays. If you need more real estate, though, we’ve rounded up options for the best monitor for MacBook Pro in 2023.

After all, sometimes you’re going to need a bit more screen real estate than the MacBook Pros offer, even in their largest variations. Chances are, if you’re looking for the best monitor for MacBook Pro, you’re using the device for work of some kind.

That means you’re going to want to look out for a variety of things, including screen size, screen resolution, and even color quality. Finding one of the best MacBook Pro monitors can be difficult, especially with so many monitors out there to choose from. That’s why we’ve done most of the legwork and put together this list of the best MacBook Pro monitors, including a budget option for those who don’t want to break the bank with their latest accessory.

Subscribe to AppleInsider on YouTube

Best overall monitor for MacBook Pro

The Dell UltraSharp U2723QE has a built-in USB-C port.

The Dell UltraSharp U2723QE is a newly-upgraded model that comes sporting excellent color coverage. Once you’ve seen it in action, you’ll never want to go back to another monitor. This delightful display comes with support for 4K resolution, and 98% DCI-P3, 100% sRGB, and 100% REC 709. That means you’ll have vibrant, sharp, and naturally beautiful visuals no matter what you’re doing on your MacBook Pro.

Buy at Dell

The panel here is also 27 inches, which means plenty of screen real estate to spread out your windows and make use of. The included ergonomic stand can also tilt, pivot, and adjust vertically, which means you can easily set it up any way you like it without having to move the monitor stand around a lot.

On top of great resolution and color quality, the Dell UltraSharp U2723QE also comes with a built-in USB-C port. That means you can charge your MacBook Pro even while running it at its full potential. The brightness could be a little bit better, but with so many other things going for it for under $700, this is a great contender for the best monitor for MacBook Pro.

Best budget monitor for MacBook Pro

The Gigabyte M27Q offers an abundance of features for a budget-friendly price.

If you want to add a monitor to your MacBook Pro setup, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, there are still some good options. One of the best budget options is the Gigabyte M27Q. This monitor features a max refresh rate of 170Hz an an IPS panel with a full resolution of 1440P. That makes it crisp enough to handle most work you’ll throw at it. The color support here isn’t as great as you’ll find in higher-priced monitors, but it’s still more than good enough for most of what you’ll do with it.

Buy at Amazon

The peak brightness, on the other hand, is extraordinary, and it handles reflections really well, too. That means you can work in bright rooms without having to worry so much about them causing glare on your screen. Additionally, the picture quality is good overall, and the accuracy of the image is fantastic right out of the box. If it had checked a few more boxes, it could easily have been a possibility for our best overall MacBook Pro monitor. But, since it falls somewhat short, and the included USB-C port doesn’t have enough power to charge your MacBook Pro, it will have to settle for the budget spot on our list.

Best ultrawide monitor for MacBook Pro

The LG 34BK95U-W Ultrafine display has ample ports to connect accessories.

If you want to maximize screen real estate, while also taking advantage of a colorful and bright screen. At 34-inches, this 5K monitor is a great option for anyone who needs a large screen with a high resolution. It also comes with ample viewing angles and great build quality. Overall, it’s hard to beat the LG 34BK95U-W Ultrafine and its bevy of features.

Buy at Amazon

On top of sporting a higher resolution panel, the 34-inch monitor also comes with a ton of ports, including a DisplayPort, two HDMI ports, as well as a USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) port, and even some regular USB-A 3.0 ports. That makes it great for accessories, which most MacBook Pros may struggle with. One of the real standout parts of this monitor, though, is its three year warranty for parts and labor. That means you won’t have to worry about dropping such a large sum on a monitor again, at least for a good few years. The LG 34BK95U-W retails for $999, but is available at Amazon.

Apple’s best monitor for MacBook Pro

The Apple Studio Display connects easily to your MacBook Pro

If you don’t mind spending a pretty penny and want to keep everything in the Apple ecosystem, then pair your MacBook Pro with the Apple Studio Display. The newly released 5K monitor comes with a bevy of features, including multiple USB ports, which should help you accessorize as needed.

Like the Pro Display XDR, the Studio Display is geared towards creative professionals. That means multiple reference modes, and P3 wide color gamut support, too. You’ll also find a built-in six-speaker sound system, as well as a 12MP ultra-wide web camera enclosed in the front of the device. The entire thing is powered by an onboard A13 chip, and comes with a nano-texture display that does great at cutting down on glare.

Buy at Adorama

There are better 5K displays out there, but if you really want to keep it in the Apple family, then the Studio Display is the monitor for you. Read our full Apple Studio Display review.

AppleInsider readers can also save $110 to $150 on the Studio display with this activation link and promo code APINSIDER at Adorama. Step-by-step coupon instructions can be found here.

Best Apple alternative monitor for MacBook Pro

The Alogic Clarity is a solid monitor with a distinctly Apple-like design language. Although it’s cheaper than the Apple Studio Display, the Clarity monitor does have its own suite of productivity tricks and additional feature that could help sway your decision.

The Alogic Clarity monitor is a budget-friendly option.

Buy at Alogic

It’s a 27-inch monitor with a 4K display with a resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels. It packs more port options than the Apple Studio Display, with a pair of HDMI ports, a Type-C, two USB-A ports, headphone jack, and a USB-B port.

The Alogic Clarity doesn’t match Apple’s display pound-for-pound, but it does come in at a cheaper $799. 99 — and delivers a lot of value for that price point.

Best reference monitor for MacBook Pro

If you’re looking for a reference monitor for high-end graphics and film editing work, then the Pro Display XDR is a solid option. This is a 32-inch monitor with a 6K resolution, HDR supports, and up to 1000 nits of brightness. It’s tailor-made for professionals.

Pro Display XDR

Buy at Adorama

The Pro Display XDR has the same port array as the Apple Studio Display, with three USB-C ports and a single Thunderbolt 3 port. While it doesn’t come cheap, it’s still significantly less expensive than most other professional-grade reference monitors.

If price isn’t an issue, the Pro Display XDR is the best monitor for MacBook Pro.

It typically costs $4,999 at places like Amazon, or $5,999 with the special matte Nano Texture Glass. But AppleInsider readers can save up to $510 on the Apple Pro Display XDR in addition to $100 off AppleCare at Adorama with this activation link and promo code APINSIDER. Need help with the coupon? Here are step-by-step activation instructions.

Best 5K monitor aimed at creatives for MacBook Pro

The LG UltraWide 5K2K is a powerful monitor aimed at creative professionals. It’s a 34-inch wide display with a 5K horizontal resolution and 4K vertical resolution. It sports a 90% DCI-P3 wide color gamut range, max brightness of 450 nits, and a resolution of 5120 by 2160 pixels.

LG UltraWide 5K2K

Buy at Amazon

On the rear, you’ll find a plethora of ports, from a pair of HDMI ports to a DisplayPort, various USB ports, and a Thunderbolt 3 port. The real draw here is the screen real estate. Its massive display area makes for easier workflows across a variety of creative and productive tasks.

You can buy the LG UltraWide 5K monitor for $1,086.46 on Amazon or for $1,496.99 at Adorama.

Best smaller 4K monitor for MacBook Pro

The LG UltraFine 4K has the distinction of being an Apple-approved monitor that you can purchase directly from the iPhone maker. It’s a 23.7-inch display with a 3840 by 2160 resolution, a P3 wide color gamut, and up to 500 nits of brightness.

The LG UltraFine 4K display pairs nicely with Apple’s MacBook Pro.

Buy at B&H

It can power a MacBook Pro with its included 85W Thunderbolt 3 cable, and it also sports two Thunderbolt 3 ports and three downstream USB-C ports. On the audio and visual side, it packs built-in stereo speakers.

You can purchase the LG 4K UltraFine display for $699 at B&H.

Best monitor with smart TV features for MacBook Pro

The Samsung M8 is a 4K monitor that can also act as a smart TV, allowing users to take advantage of online services without a host device. That makes it a bit more versatile than other monitors on the list — but the Samsung M8 still functions well as a dedicated computer display.

While it’s a larger 32-inch monitor, it has a lower pixel density than Apple’s Studio Display. Despite that, it still supports HDR10+, a 99% sRGB color range, and up to 400 nits of brightness. It packs a single HDMI port and a pair of USB-C ports (with one downstream and one upstream port).

Samsung M8

Available at Samsung

As far as audio and visual goes, the Samsung M8 has its own 5W speaker system with a tweeter, a Far Field Voice microphone, and a detachable webcam.

It’s available starting at $579 from Samsung or at Amazon for as low as $464.

Best desktop companion to a MacBook Pro

There are likely times when a dedicated desktop Mac is going to be more useful to your workflow than a separate monitor. In these cases, your best bet is likely to be the 24-inch iMac, which is powered by an M1 chipset and sports some hefty display features.

24-inch iMac

It packs a 4.5K display with a 4,480 x 2,520 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, True Tone, and Wide Color range. Of course, it’s also a dedicated computer in its own right, with a powerful M1 chipset and a seven- or eight-core GPU.

While it can’t function as a monitor for your MacBook Pro, you can streamline your workflows using features like Continuity and AirDrop.

Best MacBook Pro monitor for multitaskers

The Dell UltraSharp U4021QW offers enhanced screen real estate.

If you’re planning on multitasking, then going with an ultrawide monitor can be a great way to give yourself some extra screen real estate. It might not be the best ultrawide out there, but the Dell UltraSharp U4021QW does come close, and it gives you a ton of features to take advantage of during usage for under $2,000.

Buy at Dell

First, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. This monitor is massive. At 39.7 inches, the Dell UltraSharp U4021QW will take up a lot of desk space. But, it makes up for all of this with an absolutely stunning picture quality you aren’t likely to find on many other monitors. The ports that it comes with are also fantastic, and you’ll probably never need to use them all.

But what makes it so special for multitaskers? We’re glad you asked. Let us introduce you to the Dell UltraSharp U4021QW’s various multitasking modes, including picture-by-picture, picture-in-picture, and KVM (which stands for keyboard, video, and mouse). These features allow you to connect two separate laptops or computers and view them on that single screen. So, if you need to collaborate with a teammate who has their own MacBook Pro, the Dell UltraSharp U4021QW can let you both work side by side whenever you need to.

While it may be tough to choose between these monitors, there is a great chance of discovering the best monitor for MacBook Pro that will fit your needs here.

After you connect an external display or projector, go to Displays in System Settings to set how the displays are arranged, choose which to use as your main display, and adjust resolution. If you want to mirror your screen, click the display that you want to act as a mirror, then choose the mirror option from the “Use as” dropdown.

🔥 How to choose an external monitor for MacBook and not regret buying

Monitor for MacBook

I’ll tell you why the image on an external MacBook monitor is small, large and cloudy. And how to choose a monitor to avoid this.

Vlad Gorokhovsky

• 6 min read

When you buy a brand new MacBook monitor, you’re likely to run into one of three problems: the macOS interface will be small, large, or muddy. In this note, I’ll explain why this happens and how to choose a monitor so that the macOS interface looks as good as on the iMac screen.

If you don’t want to get into the technical details, just scroll down the article. There is a table with recommendations for choosing the right diagonal and resolution. This will help you navigate the selection of the model.

macOS features: Retina and PPI

Apple has several models of MacBooks and iMacs. All computers have different screen sizes and resolutions, but the macOS interface is the same everywhere in clarity and proportions. Why?

To understand why this happens, you need to understand the concepts of Retina and PPI . And since we’re talking about external monitors, let’s break these terms down using the 4K 21-inch iMac as an example.

21″ iMac 4K native resolution – 4096×2304 pixels, but in fact, you see a picture with a resolution half as large – 2048×1152.

If the picture was displayed in full 4K resolution, then all fonts, buttons and icons on the screen would be very small.

When the visible image is half the physical resolution of the monitor, then one visible pixel consists of four physical pixels. Such an image is called a high-definition image, or HiDPI. Apple has its own marketing name for this – Retina .

To make macOS look equally good on devices with different diagonals and resolutions, Apple tied the size of the macOS interface to the PPI (Pixels Per Inch) parameter, the number of pixels per inch that can be calculated from the diagonal and screen resolution.

‼️ The macOS interface looks good when the apparent pixel density (PPI) of is around 110 .

For example, MacBook Pro 13″ and iMac 27″ apparent pixel density is 109PPI. Therefore, if you switch from a MacBook to an iMac, you won’t notice a big difference in image sizes.

To determine the PPI density of a monitor, use a special calculator. You need to enter the apparent screen resolution and its diagonal into it.

👉 PPI calculator for monitors

macOS looks good on MacBooks and iMacs because the pixel density of their screens is always the same

Why the macOS interface is small

Because you’re displaying the picture at your monitor’s native resolution. At the same time, the resolution of the monitor is high. For example, 4K. Because of this, the PPI is much higher than the reference value of 110 points.

The vast majority of 27-inch 4K monitors have a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. If you display an image at this resolution, then the macOS interface will be small. Since the pixel density (PPI) will be 163.

If you try to scale the 3840×2160 resolution to a Retina-compatible resolution, then it will have to be halved both horizontally and vertically. Thus, each pixel will consist of four physical pixels, and the apparent resolution will be 1920 × 1080 pixels.

In this case, the PPI calculator gives us the number 82. And this is already a very large picture, as for my taste. It will look much better if you choose not a 27-inch screen, but a 24-inch one. Then the PPI will become 92, and the picture will be of an acceptable size and clarity.

If you want to get a picture similar to an iMac on a 27-inch monitor, then you need to look for a model with a resolution of not 3840×2160, but 5120×2880. In this case, its visible image is 2560×1440 and will correspond to 109PPI. A budget option is to simply choose a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 2560×1440 (2K).

Why the macOS interface is large

Because you’ve scaled your monitor to Retina resolution. Often, the system does this automatically.

For example, again take a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 3840×2160 px. If you scale its resolution to the required 1920×1080 pixels (Retina), then the PPI will drop to 82. The image will be unusually large. The only acceptable scenario for using such a monitor is if it is far away and your eyesight is planted.

Recommendations are similar: either take a variant with the same resolution and a diagonal of 21‒24 inches, or take a model with a native resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.

Why is the interface cloudy

If the physical resolution is large, and Retina is too small, then why not scale the image to a different resolution? For example, make from 3840×2160 not 1920×1080 (Retina), but the required 2560×1440, at which the PPI will be 109, since the monitor settings allow it.

‼️ You can choose any image scaling in the macOS settings, but if it is not half the native screen resolution, the picture will become a little hazy.

This happens because the physical number of pixels is always even and painlessly divisible by only two. With arbitrary scaling, one visible pixel will be displayed not as an integer, but as a decimal number of pixels. For example, not a 2×2 pixel matrix, as with Retina, but 1.5×1.5 px. Which, in principle, is impossible, since a physical pixel cannot be divided.

To get out of this situation, the video system will paint the neighboring pixels in the main hue. This is how blurryness is obtained, which is especially clearly visible on text and lines that are one pixel thick.

Some monitors scale better than others. The higher the resolution and the smaller the diagonal of the monitor, the less noticeable the blurring of the image.

Of the entire line of Apple computers, only the 13-inch MacBook Pro does “bad” scaling, turning the native resolution of 2560×1600 into 1440×900. But, thanks to the small diagonal, the pixels are so small that the picture is still clear.

With a large diagonal, this trick will not work for you. With arbitrary scaling, the picture will be slightly blurry, which, at least, is not suitable for designers.

If the picture is blurry when connecting an external monitor to the MacBook, regardless of the resolution, then most likely the matter is in the wrong digital profile. This is being treated, and I wrote a separate post about it.

The image quality on the monitor has become poor. What to do? 🤔

After purchasing a new monitor or updating macOS, the interface may become hazy and the fonts may appear slightly double. It’s as if an Instagram filter has been applied to them or you are looking at a monitor screen with a CRT kinescope. I tell you how to fix it.

Mac OS World Vlad Gorokhovsky

Which monitor to choose

When choosing an external monitor for Mac, be guided by the density of visible pixels – PPI. This parameter depends on the diagonal and the resolution in which you are going to work.

To make icons, fonts and buttons look the same as on a MacBook or iMac, PPI must be around 110. If your eyesight is a little set or the monitor is far away, you can safely take a monitor with 90 PPI. Don’t go below.

If PPI is greater than 110, then the image will be small.

Cheat sheet for choosing the right resolution and diagonal

The optimal ratio of price and quality will be a monitor with a diagonal of 27 inches and a resolution of 2560 × 1440. Each manufacturer has such options. Thanks to the PPI of 108 points, the scale of the interface on such a monitor will look like Apple intended. And the usable area is maximum.

If you need a sharp Retina image, look at 4K 24-inch monitors, and then scale the image to 1920×1080. The usable area will be smaller, but the picture will be clear.

The most budget option is a 21-inch monitor with 1920 × 1080 pixels. The picture will look good and not too grainy. A good option for an additional monitor.

Other things to look for when choosing a monitor for Mac

Auto-dimming, VESA mount, built-in speakers – it’s all up to your needs.

The only thing worth hunting for is the ability to connect a monitor directly with a USB-C cable. In this case, such a cable will not only transmit the picture, but also charge the laptop itself.

If you choose a laptop with USB-C support, then the USB ports in the monitor itself will not be redundant. In this case, you do not have to use a hub to connect ordinary flash drives, microphones and other peripherals.

Many gaming monitors support screen refresh rates over 60MHz. Even a monitor that supports 75MHz refresh is much more pleasant to work with, as the picture moves much more smoothly when dragging windows or scrolling through web pages.

Sonos remains one of the brands to beat when it comes to whole-home, multi-room audio, wireless smart speakers, and streaming soundbars.

The brand that kick-started the multi-room revolution now has a whole range of audio products, from the new Sonos Era 300 and 100 to the Move and Roam Bluetooth speakers to the Sonos Arc, Beam and Ray TV soundbars. There’s even a Sonos car audio system – and, if rumours are to be believed, there might even be some Sonos headphones in the pipeline.

Sonos Playbar

If you’re looking for a simple device to make a profound difference to your TV’s sound, then the Sonos Playbar is an excellent option even though it has now been discontinued. It also brings immediate access to more music than you could ever possibly hope to listen to, and all without having to get involved with a bona fide surround sound set-up.

Sonos Playbase

If you prefer a soundbase to a soundbar, then the Playbase is your only option where Sonos is concerned. Actually, make that was your only option, as it too has been discontinued. It creates a big, broad soundstage and a solid, natural bass. It’s also aesthetically stylish and reassuringly well put together. The treble can be a bit edgy when it gets really loud but it’s still a fine buy if you can actually find one that’s discounted.

Sonos Play:5 / Sonos Five

The biggest, boldest and most powerful speaker in the Sonos range, the Play:5 can fill even the biggest room with a rich, powerful sound. Some new rivals might beat it on pure audio performance, but as an addition to a Sonos system, it’s still terrific quality. And you can make a good saving right now on the original price.

Sonos Play:3

Like the majority of Sonos’s wireless speakers, the Play:3 is another cracking performer and if you can find one, then you should get a good price. Again, maybe a refurbished or, as Amazon calls it, renewed model. No touch-sensitive controls or voice assistants, but all the control and streaming functionality of the Sonos family is there. Naturally you get a lift in performance over the Play:1 too.

Sonos Play:1

The original, small but beautiful Sonos Play:1 remains an accomplished performer for sound – although it’s pretty hard to find on sale right now. If you do spot one, perhaps secondhand on eBay or the Sonos Refurbished site, then while it’s light on the bells and whistles of the Sonos One – such as voice control – it’s still a decent option.

It does everything a standard Sonos speaker will do, working with all the other Sonos products on this page. And it sounds decent, too. Though it was never going to rival a ‘proper’ speaker, it delivers a bold, focused, entertaining sound.

Fossil Pokémon are so rare that even trainers rarely have them. Read this list to learn how to become a true Pokémon Fossil Master!

Remember when you first started playing Pokemon and you stumble upon a fossil? For many, this acquisition of the item, at least in Gen I games. Blue, Red, Green , as well as Yellow , was pretty smooth. But it turns out that fossils are very useful key items, ranging from gen I games to gen VII games. If you know the steps and understand the different places in the games where you can find and evolve fossils, your Pokédex will suddenly get a lot better, as Fossil Pokémon are so rare that even trainers in the gym desire them, and few have them at all. .

Once you learn more about these fossil Pokémon, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the game. We’ve got facts and tips for all seven generations, so whatever game you’re playing these days, we’ve got you covered. Here are 15 Fossil Pokemon Facts You Didn’t Know.

fifteenDevon Corporation invented methods to revive fossil Pokémon

In the Pokémon world, the idea of resurrecting fossils into real Pokémon was first invented by Devon Corporation, presumably in one of their research labs on Cinnabar Island , Kanto region, south of the city Pallet, although the company is based in Rustborough. Hoenn.

In the Generation VI games, you can actually visit the Hoenn head office and check out their Pokémon Producer Machine. This machine collects the DNA found in the fossil by placing it in a capsule filled with orange creation fluid. The supercomputer then creates a blueprint for that Pokémon, and the corporation grows a new Pokémon from that extracted DNA.

In Generations I and III, you can only bring your fossils to life by visiting the Devon Corporation laboratory on Cinnabar Island. In Generations II and IV, the gamer learns that a volcano erupted on the island, the original gym was relocated to the Seafoam Islands, and the once-famous tech shelter no longer exists.

14 Fossil Pokémon are always Rock-type

Once you’ve successfully acquired a live Pokémon fossil, it’s useful to know that all Fossil Pokémon are at least partially Rock-type, if not entirely.

There are two theories as to why this is so; for one, the original Pokémon that became a fossil was originally a Rock-type, and it is this Rock-type DNA that allows it to become a fossil in the first place. Another theory is that being stony is a side effect of being reborn from a fossil.

Whatever the reason, he will be a rock type, or at least partly rock type! Rock-type Pokémon don’t have the best defenses and are especially susceptible to Grass-type and Water-type Pokémon. However, in offensive properties, they are almost unparalleled, they are opposed only by combat, ground and steel. Plus, if it’s only part rock type, any other Pokemon type can counteract the rock type’s disadvantages. Kobuto, for example, reborn from a fossil dome, is a water type, not part of a stone type.

13Kranidos is the only pure rock-type fossil Pokémon.

Cranidos (evolves into Rampardos at level 30) is the only fossil-type Pokémon in all games that respawns as a pure rock-type Pokémon.

This has its advantages and disadvantages. The upside is that this means Cranidos is an incredibly rare Pokémon. In order to get the Skull Fossil that resurrects Cranidos, you must travel to Eterna City and collect the Explorer’s Kit from the man in the house next to the Bicycle Shop. Then you have to go to the Dungeon, mine the walls, and you can only get the Skull Fossil if your trainer ID is an odd number.

The disadvantages of Rock-type Pokémon have already been outlined above, but the advantage of getting Cranidos is that in addition to being rare, they will also have incredible strength and great attacking moves.

Cranidos becomes available only in Generation IV games and is most notable for its iron head that can smash rocks and trees.

12 Fossil Pokémon are really rare and hard to catch

Since the process of finding fossils and then resurrecting them is such a long and complicated process that varies greatly from series to series, Fossil Pokémon are very rare!

In Gen I games, since fossils are key items and not just items, they can’t even be traded outside of the game, making them rarer. In Generation 2, fossils are so rare they don’t exist, and the only Fossil Pokémon available in the game is Chansey’s in-game trade with an NPC in Kanto. This is an exchange for Aerodactyl.

In total, only eleven fossils were found in the entire series, from generation I to generation VII. So, despite the minor drawbacks of Rock-type Pokémon, the rarity of these Pokémon certainly makes up for it. Because of this, few trainers have Fossil Pokémon, which makes this type of Pokémon even more desirable.

eleven Before Generation IV, fossils were key items

In Generations I and III, fossils are key items, which means they can only be used once and cannot be traded outside of the game. (This of course does not apply to Generation II because you cannot mine).

Only in Generation IV do fossils become a little more accessible, although the hoops you have to jump through to get them seem a lot more difficult. However, they are more accessible because fossils are no longer considered key items; they are just Items, which means you can trade them outside of the game.

Because fossils are so rare, you probably never want to drop your fossil, even in post-Gen III games. So there’s another benefit to turning fossils into items rather than keystones: freeing up space in your backpack.

In general, however, this transition is not a big deal, it indicates that starting from generation IV, fossil and fossil Pokémon will become more diverse!

10The first three fossils were discovered simultaneously in Generation I

Unlike later generations, this is the only Generation I owned Pokémon game that features three, not two, Fossils. These are a spiral, a dome and old amber fossils.

Fossil Helix becomes Omanite, part rock, part water, which evolves into Omastar at level 40. Fossil Dome becomes Kabuto, part rock, part water, which evolves into Kabutops at level 40. The amber fossil becomes an Aerodactyl, a somewhat volatile rock-type that can Mega Evolve into a Mega Aerodactyl.

In these games, you first see a fossil Pokémon when you encounter dragon-possessed Trainer Lance as the last member of the Elite Four. He has a level 60 Aerodactyl.

The spiral and dome fossils are at the end of the mountain. The moon is under the protection of a super botanist. Unfortunately, the player can only keep one fossil, so choose wisely! Meanwhile, Old Amber is part of the Tin Science Museum. You will need the HM01 Cut to access the location.

9In the anime, fossil Pokémon just went dormant for millions of years

Apart from card games and video games, the most popular offshoot of the Pokémon franchise was the original. anime TV show. Interestingly, in these representations, the process of reviving fossils is different from how it works in video games.

Instead of using the Pokémon Producer Machine, the fossils just went dormant for millions of years! The Pokémon is technically experiencing a “new life” now, but retains some memories from its “past life”.

The show’s methods of turning fossils into fossil Pokémon are far more arbitrary than those in the games. For example, in one episode, Archen was revived by Musharna’s “sleep energy”. In other episodes, it’s not entirely clear exactly how the Fossil turns into a Pokémon. While this ambiguity is frustrating in games, anime can do whatever it wants, really, and “dream energy” sounds pretty cool anyway.

8Aerodactyl is the only fossil Pokémon that can Mega Evolve

Of all the fossil Pokémon, Aerodactyl differs from the rest in its unique evolutionary process. Where most other fossil Pokémon eventually evolve, usually around level 40, Aerodactyl stays the same throughout the game.

However, in the Generation VI games, the Mega Evolution process was introduced, and Aerodactyl became the only Pokémon fossil capable of this kind of evolution. This is a rare attribute for Aerodactyl considering only 46 types of Pokemon are capable of it!

Megaevolving will essentially improve every aspect of your Pokémon, and its base stat will always be increased by 100 points to what it was in its original stat total. To deliver Aerodactyl to Mega Evolve, the Pokémon itself will need to hold their personal Mega Stone, and you, as the Trainer, will need to hold the Keystone. Mega Stones are very hard to find and look like sparks rather than objects on the ground.

7In Generation III, you will need a Mach bike to get Fossil Pokémon

In the Generation III series ( Ruby, Sapphire , and Emerald ), two more fossils have been added to the existing collection: a root fossil and a claw fossil, which respectively turn into Lilip (part stone type, part Zhukovsky) and anorite ( partly water, partly stone).

But with the advent of these games, the process of finding fossils becomes much more difficult than in the generation I games. In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire , you must head east from the city of Lavaridge, to a desert area where there is a crumbling tower. The fossils are on the top floor of the tower, but you’ll need a match bike to get there. In the end, to revive the fossils, you need to go to the city of Rustboro, like in the first generation.

When faced with a choice between a fossil root and a claw, you can only choose one. The other one will appear in Fossil maniac’s house after you defeat Elite 4 and defeat him.

6In Generation IV, there are several ways to find fossils

In the Generation IV game series, fossils are introduced separately in Diamond and Pearl ; Fossil Skull (Cranidos) is only available in Diamond and Armor Fossil (Shieldon) is only available in Pearl. At Platinum Meanwhile, the fossil you dig depends on whether your trainer ID is an even or odd number.

You can find fossils in different places in these games; in Sonnoh they are in hiding. Other rare items can be found here, including the National Pokédex. Once you find this item, you will be able to find all the other fossils featured in the Generation I and Generation III game series.

You can then find the Generation I Fossils in Johto, where you have to smash rocks near Alpha Ruins. Generation III Fossils can be found by performing the same action in Cliff Cave. Generation IV is when fossils become less rare as they have now moved from Key Items to Common Items.

To bring the fossils to life, you must go to the Orebourg Mining Museum.

5In Generation V, you will find fossils in the castle of relics and revive them in the museum of the banker

In the more recent Generation V game series, the process of getting fossils remains difficult, and the picture shows two new fossils: the Cover Fossil, which spawns in Tirtug, and Plum’s Fossil, which spawns in Archen. There are now nine Fossils that you can turn into Pokémon Fossils, so trade!

In the first batches of Generation V Pokémon Black and Pokémon White , you can only get one of the two fossils from someone in the Relic Castle, so choose wisely. However, in their sequels, you can get fossils from Lenora’s Gym Leader.

Gen I, III and IV Fossils can only be obtained after you defeat Heghzis and Iris, and you can get them from a worker in Twist Mountain.

To turn fossils into Pokémon in these games, you must go to the Nacren City Museum and then use the Pokémon Making Machine.

4In Generation VI, Breaking Rocks Are Key to Fossiling

In Generation VI, your collection of Fossils, and therefore Fossil Pokémon, should grow significantly as Breaking Rocks becomes the main method of obtaining them (in Glittering Cave and only after conquering Elite 4 ). Here you can collect dome, spiral, claw, root, feather, shelter, skull and armor fossils.

Here again are two new fossils: a jaw fossil that spawns in Tirunt and a sail fossil that spawns in Amaur. You can only get one of these fossils by going to the Glittering Cave, and you must revive it into a Pokémon at the Research Facility in Umbrette City.

Generation VI games reintroduce old amber, and you can also find Mega Evolve and turn your Aerodactyl into Mega Aerodactyl. After endless generations of Aerodactyl failed to evolve like other fossil Pokémon, this is an exciting move for rock-type Pokémon and flying Pokémon!

3In Generation VII, you can just buy fossils

Remember the good old days when you had to look for fossils everywhere and then go on another journey to turn them into Pokémon? Well, no more searching!

in the Generation VII Game Series ( Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Luna ), the process becomes much easier. To get fossils in these games, all you have to do is head to the Stone Shop in KoniKoni town. As long as you have money, you will have fossils because you just have to buy them!

In Pokemon Sun , you can only buy Skull and Shroud Fossils, and in Pokemon Moon , you can only buy fossils and armor. You will have to trade to get all four.

To turn fossils into Pokémon, you must go to the Pokémon Center on Highway 8, turn right into the forest area and find a person in his van who will revive them for you.

two Archen / Archeops – the only fossil Pokemon without hidden abilities

If you are a true hardcore Pokémon fan who has played all of the game series above, then you should now be quite familiar with the collection of fossil Pokémon that the Pokémon franchise has given us.

However, it is still surprising that some Pokemon are not like others. In the case of fossil Pokémon, it still seems like Aerodactyl was the lone wolf in the pack. But actually it is not.

Archen, which evolves from the Feather Fossil and then evolves to Archeops at level 37, is the only fossil Pokémon that doesn’t have hidden abilities! Luckily for Archen/Archeops, this part-rock type, part-flying Pokemon is so fast and smart that the lack of hidden abilities doesn’t really matter, considering its hidden abilities are so good! Not to mention, given that some latent abilities can sometimes be a hindrance, this could be an advantage for Archen’s revival.

1Most fossil Pokémon are inspired by extinct creatures from the real world

Have you ever played the Pokémon game and think wow, is that surprisingly insightful or accurate? Fans have long drawn parallels with the Pokémon franchise to Japanese insect-catching culture, technological innovation, or bird-watching culture.

When it comes to Pokémon fossils, parallels can be drawn with the world of paleontology. Indeed, some Pokémon fossils are very similar to real extinct creatures, insects, fish and reptiles, as well as mammals and dinosaurs.

For example, Anorith / Armaldo was inspired by the extinct aquatic creature Anomalocaris. Kabuto/Kabutops took inspiration from an extinct group of invertebrates called trilobites. Lileep/Cradily is based on crinoids that appeared during the Ordovician period, and it’s no surprise that Omanyte/Omastar is inspired by a 400 million year old group of invertebrate ammonites. And, of course, Aerodactyl is clearly inspired by the extinct pterosaur.

Who knew what was playing Pokémon will lead to such an educational experience? This is only to be expected when we’re talking about Pokémon fossils.

Wear OS 3 should be better – Crast.net

Wear OS had a rocky past, but with Wear OS 3 things are finally starting to get better. The first Fossil smartwatch to run on this platform, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a $3 Wear OS 300 smartwatch, which is disappointing.

Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a smartwatch based on the same hardware platform as last year’s Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch. It has a similar but sportier design than the standard Gen 6 watch and the same built-in features: size 44mm case with a round AMOLED touchscreen, two buttons and a rotating crown, main health sensors including a heart rate monitor, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100+ processor.

From a hardware standpoint, this is a fairly simple proposition. The watch is designed to be lightweight; The chassis as a whole looks like this. I like the subtle matte black. The rotating crown is also exceptionally smooth. Also, it uses a traditional spring-pin strap, which I can definitely appreciate after shelling out a lot of money for Google’s Pixel Watch.

This is a solid base package for Wear OS watches, but the big difference from last year’s version is in the software. According to the leak, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition runs on Wear OS 3, the latest and greatest version of Google’s smartwatch platform. It’s the same underlying software that powers the Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch 4/5, and Montblanc Summit 3.

Wear OS 3 is faster, has better battery life, and fewer bugs than previous versions. The Fossil setup for the platform is also minimal. You’ll also find orange accents in Fossil’s dedicated battery-saving mode – more on battery life later – and in some pre-loaded apps like Amazon Alexa, Cardiogram, and Fossil’s Wellness Health Suite.

The overall experience is remarkably similar to the Google Pixel Watch and, for that matter, many old Fossil smartwatches. Swiping down from the watch face opens Settings, swiping up reveals your notifications, and swiping in any horizontal direction now reveals “tiles” (widgets). Pressing the crown opens the app drawer, while the top button now shows recent apps. The bottom button is customizable to open the app of your choice.

Unfortunately, although the overall software has improved, performance has not improved. The first two days of using the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition were tough to say the least. Apps loaded slowly, the interface was generally cluttered, and I wasn’t at all happy with the experience. Once I even had to reset the watch because it thought it was connected to my Pixel 7 Pro, but my phone didn’t agree and I kept asking the watch to connect. was. This is a bug I’ve run into on Wear OS before, mostly on Fossil watches, and I’m very disappointed that it still exists.

Performance improved after a day or two, but it’s still the roughest experience I’ve ever had on Wear OS 3. Like the Montblanc Summit 3, the Pixel Watch runs a lot smoother. Since the Fossil watch is only equipped with 1GB of RAM, it’s easy to see why the Pixel Watch performs better, but Montblanc’s superior performance shows that this seems to be due to optimization issues.

Is productivity the deciding factor? I don’t think so – not so Completely she is wrong. Still, Wear OS 3 should be better than this.

Another software issue has to do with this smartwatch’s namesake, Fossil’s Health Kit. To be honest, it’s not very good.

The health app can track steps, heart rate, sleep, exercise and other basic statistics. All of this data is synced to the Fossil app on your phone, which you’ll use to pair this watch with your phone – the old Wear OS app no longer works. The data presented is fine and seems to be the same as my Fitbit Sense 2 on my other wrist, but this is a very limited subset of information. You get more with Google Fit, which is not currently compatible with this watch, and with Fitbit, also at the free tier of the latter.

For a smartwatch that takes its name from this set of health data, this is a truly disappointing experience. This is handy for getting a quick view of your data in real time, but it’s minimal help in terms of helping you identify data trends that the data is really useful for. Luckily, the Fossil app has Google Fit integration so you can sync this data to other devices if you want.

Don’t clutter, but the other problem I had was with dials. In general, I like Fossil watch faces, but the options for this product are extremely limited and few of them really suit my style. One face I liked, “Fitness Digital”, didn’t even work properly. It showed time and heart rate correctly, but my steps, calories, and miles traveled were stuck on the first day, and took days to finally update, even through reboots. Again, Wear OS 3 should be better.

Now let’s talk about battery life. it’s Good . While I had a few first days where I could finish the Wellness Edition in a matter of hours, I get a solid battery life of 18 to 24 hours on this watch with the always-on display off. In my testing, turning on AOD around 12 o’clock seems to kill hours easily. This is not so Good Battery life, but it has one saving moment.

Fossil’s contact-based charging method is much faster than the wireless options used by the Galaxy Watch 5 and Pixel Watch. In addition, this new generation of the Fossil system solves past problems with falling off charging rings on older smartwatches.

Fossil claims to charge to 80% in 30 minutes, which is roughly in line with my tests. I went into a charging rhythm once in the morning for 15-30 minutes and once before bed if needed to track sleep. Even while travelling, I only had one day where the battery ran out and it turned out to be due to my use of a dead USB port at the hotel. Again, battery life isn’t great here, but the charging more than makes up for it. I wish Google and Samsung used a similar system.

This is the Fossil app you will use to pair and control

One of my biggest concerns with the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is getting to know the new Fossil smartwatch. The brand bases its smartwatches from different brands on the same underlying platform and software and sticks to that for at least a year or two. In such a situation, this wellness edition smart watch is left behind. must Happen. If Fossil already had a Gen 7 platform, it would be relatively safe to assume that this smartwatch would be based on the faster and more efficient Snapdragon W5+ chip, which should result in better battery life and performance.

The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is a decent smartwatch to date, but I can’t think of a single reason why anyone should invest in it at full price.

The $50 price difference with Google’s Pixel Watch isn’t worth the fitness/wellness or lack of basic features like Google Assistant.

If you’re making informed choices about the quality of the food you eat, you might also make informed choices about the quality of the water you drink. A new study by the U.S. Geological Survey estimates that “forever chemicals” can be found in 45% of tap water in the United States.

  • Related: How we choose our products

The EPA warns the substances, also known as per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are “long-lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time” and may be linked to harmful health effects in humans.

One way to help protect yourself from contaminants and reduce your overall exposure to unwanted substances? Experts say drink filtered water. (Some bottled water has been found to contain PFAS.) And while experts say Brita filters can remove some contaminants, you can also get filtered water and ice from your refrigerator. The CBS Essentials shopping experts have found the best refrigerators with water filters that might help reduce your intake of certain contaminants.

What are PFAS (forever chemicals)?

PFAS have been linked to a range of health problems, including certain forms of cancer. You may be able to reduce the amount of PFAS in your home’s water with a water filter. But not all water filters are the same.

“In general, refrigerator filters are designed to remove sediments, chlorine, lead and other common contaminants and not specifically PFAS compounds,” says Dr. Andrew Lazur, a University of Maryland water quality specialist. “That said, since some refrigerator filters use activated carbon, they can reduce some PFAS compounds, but may not achieve EPA or state-recommended concentrations.”

In other words, Lazur says that some fridge filters can reduce forever chemicals, but exactly how much may vary from product to product.

“Consumers should ask about the water filters used in the refrigerators, and inquire specifically about what contaminants are reduced, and by what percent,” Lazur told CBS Essentials. “Also asking about filter replacement schedule and cost may help in decision making.”

We also have a guide for standalone water filters here.

5 Best Refrigerator Water Filter Reviews & Comparison

Refrigerator water filter is a small device that either gets attached to the back of the refrigerator or inserted in a dedicated slot inside the fridge. Its purpose is to filter specific contaminants from the water used by the refrigerator for the built-in ice or water dispenser.

The best refrigerator water filter for 2023 is the Clearly filtered universal inline fridge filter which offers 365 gallons filter life, 0. 75GPM flow rate, and removes more than 232+ contaminants including heavy metals, pollutants and chemicals.

Clearly Filtered Universal Inline Fridge Filter

    • Filter Life – 365 gallons
    • Contaminants Removed – 232+

    Pros

    • The three-stage filtration process reduces more than 232 different contaminants
    • The filter life is above average
    • Uses a universal fitting that can be attached to any refrigerator

    Cons

    • The most expensive model on the market

    Check Price

The Clearly Filtered refrigerator filter is the best choice if you’re looking to filter a wide range of contaminants. While refrigerator filters aren’t known for their high filtration capacity, this model bucks that trend by reducing more than 232 contaminants including pollutants like dirt, chlorine, and lead, as well as less common but still very problematic substances like viruses, fluoride, and PFAS/PFOA. The filtration process works in 3-stages, which is a combination of activated carbon media, a heavy metal media, and a fluoride media.

The clearly filtered refrigerator has a filter life of 365 gallons, which serves 6 – 7 months of use before needing replacement. As a universal fit, this filter is versatile and compatible with all refrigerator brands with a standard 1/4” water line.

    GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter

    GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter

    • Filter Life – 300 gallons
    • Contaminants Removed – 50+
    • Price – $52.48

    Pros

    • Comes with a decent 300-gallon capacity
    • Can remove a large number of common contaminants
    • Very easy to install in compatible refrigerators

    Cons

    • Only compatible with GE Appliances refrigerators

    Check Price

Although the GE RPWFE refrigerator filter is quite similar to the Clearly filtered fridge filter in terms of filter capacity, it is only compatible with GE refrigerator appliances, which could be a drawback for many. But regardless, it’s one of the best fridge filter choices especially if you have a GE refrigerator.

The GE RPWFE filter has a 300-gallon life capacity which serves about 6 months of regular use. In fact, depending on how often you use the ice maker, you may be able to squeeze 8 – 9 months out of it before it needs replacement.

Another benefit is its contaminant removal capacity of 50+ contaminants such as chlorine and lead, as well as more dangerous substances like trace pharmaceuticals, PFOS, PFAS, cysts.

Culligan IC 1 EZ-Change Refrigerator Filter

    Culligan IC EZ-Change Refrigerator Filter

    • Filter Life – 3,000 gallons
    • Contaminants Removed – Chlorine
    • Price – $25.33

    Pros

    • The filter purifies 10 times more water than most other models on the market
    • It’s very reasonably priced
    • NSF certified

    Cons

    • Removes only chlorine

    Check Price

The Culligan IC fridge filter has the most long-lasting filter we could find. It serves 3,000 gallons of filtered water before needing replacement. However, the company surprisingly claims it will last for just a year.

While One-year life expectancy is excellent for a fridge filter, most refrigerator filters with 300-gallons capacity typically lasts around 6-months. So, its not clear if Culligan is selling their product short, or it uses a different formula to calculate its capacity. A 3,000 gallons filter should last 5 – 10 years and not 1 year as claimed.

Although we’re confident this product lasts well beyond a year if the 3k gallon capacity is accurate, we suggest using it for a year without replacing it and monitoring it closely after the recommended replacement date has expired. Use the product until you notice any change to the smell or the taste of the water, and switch it out only when you’re sure the filter can’t properly purify the water anymore.

Since this unit has such a long filter life, the fact that it only costs $25 makes it a bargain. Not only is the price low, but you also don’t need to replace it for at least a year, which is very beneficial when you consider that other refrigerator filters might have a low initial cost but needs to be replaced 2 or 3 times a year.

However, while the capacity and price of the Culligan IC are both excellent, it falls short when it comes to its contaminant removal capacity. The Culligan IC only reduces chlorine. While this also removes unpleasant odors and tastes from your water, it also means the unit isn’t a great choice if your water contains other common contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides, etc.

On the bright side, chlorine is a widespread contaminant in water found virtually everywhere around the US, so this is still a great pick if that’s what you need the filter for.

Everydrop by Whirlpool Water Refrigerator Filter

Everydrop by Whirlpool Water Refrigerator Filter

    • Filter Life – 200 gallons
    • Contaminants Removed – 23

    Pros

    • Is very effective at removing lead
    • Compatible with five different refrigerator brands
    • Comes with a 0. 75 GPM flow rate

    Cons

    • May take you a few tries to learn how to install it

    Check Price

The Everydrop by Whirlpool fridge filter is one of the most versatile filters we reviewed, only second to the clearly filtered universal inline fridge filter. This unit has a 200-gallon filter which serves 4 – 5 months of use. However, if you don’t use the ice dispenser very often, you can extend its life by at least a few weeks or even a month. With frequent use, you’ll need to replace the filter 2 – 3 times a year.

The Everydrop filter successfully reduces 23 contaminants, including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and waterborne parasites. The coconut shell carbon media is also very good at removing lead with 99% efficiency. It’s a major advantage of this model, considering that lead is one of the most common pollutants in water.

    ICEPURE UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter

    ICEPURE UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter

    • Filter Life – 300 gallons
    • Contaminants Removed – 20+

    Pros

    • The most cost-effective model on the market
    • Removes a decent amount of contaminants
    • Good filter life

    Cons

    • Compatible only with Whirlpool, Everydrop, and Maytag appliances

    Check Price

While the average price of refrigerator filters ranges from around $20 to $50, the ICEPURE UKF8001 comes with a low price tag of $14. Its affordability applies not only to the product’s initial cost but also to the average yearly cost for its replacements.

Speaking of replacements, the 300-gallon filter capacity lasts around 6 months, so you’ll only have to replace it twice a year. This frequency puts its overall yearly price at $28. In other words, you’ll get two for the price of one Culligan IC model, which is the second most cost-effective refrigerator filter we reviewed.

While a low price is usually associated with low quality, this isn’t the case for this unit. The ICEPURE still effectively removes more than 20 contaminants like chlorine, lead, sediment particles, and other common water pollutants.

The only downside we observed is that is is only compatible with Whirlpool, Everydrop, and Maytag appliances.

How Does a Refrigerator Water Filter Work?

Refrigerator water filters have cylinders through which the water passes. The filter is attached to the water line that feeds into your refrigerator, and the water automatically passes through them.

The inside of the filter contains filtration media, and its effectiveness depends entirely on the filtration media type. While the filtration media is designed to adsorb pollutants to remove them from the water that passes through it, there’s a limit to how much it absorbs before it needs to be replaced. So after some time, the media won’t be able to absorb any more contaminants.

While other water filtration systems have cartridges or removable filters, refrigerator filters don’t. This means that it’s time to get a new filter once the media is past its prime.

    Advantages of Refrigerator Water Filters

Refrigerator water filters are incredibly easy to install and replace. It doesn’t matter if you’re attaching them to the refrigerator water line or putting them in the dedicated filter slot on your refrigerator, the entire process shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes.

These filters are also significantly cheaper than most other water filtration units like reverse osmosis filters or whole-house filtration systems.

    Disadvantages of Refrigerator Water Filters

Due to their small size, these filters don’t have as much capacity as larger models. While some models remove many contaminants, extremely polluted water will clog them fast and cut their life expectancy in half.

In other words, they can’t replace whole-house units, and if you live in an area with highly polluted water, you’ll need a more powerful unit than a refrigerator water filter.

    Frequently Asked Questions

People have many questions about refrigerator water filters. In the following section, we’ll answer some of them.

What is the cheapest refrigerator water filter?

The most affordable refrigerator filter (as far as we could find) is the ICEPURE UKF8001, at $13.99.

What is the average price of a refrigerator water filter?

Refrigerator water filters usually cost between $20 and $50, with the more expensive models coming in at $60 – $70. The one exception to this is the Clearly Filtered Universal Inline Fridge Filter with its high $165 price tag.

What does installing/replacing a refrigerator water filter require?

Easy installation is one of the biggest selling points of refrigerator water filters, so the whole process should take 5 – 10 minutes tops. When replacing the filter, locate the current filter and turn off the refrigerator for a bit. Unscrew the current filter and remove it. Screw in the new filter and turn the power back on before the fridge defrosts. That’s all it takes.

If you have an older model with an ice maker but no filter, you’re still able to use a water filter, but it requires more effort to install.

The first thing that you need to do is locate the water line that goes to your fridge. It’s going to be somewhere in the back and close to the ice maker, so you’ll need to slightly rotate your fridge to find it. Once you’ve found it, turn off your refrigerator for a second to ensure that water isn’t running through the line. Once the fridge is off, remove the water line from it and attach it to the water filter. Once that’s done, attach the other side of the water filter to the ice maker.

Once the filter is attached, we recommend using zip ties or strings to keep it suspended to something behind the fridge. You can also let it hang there, but the weight of the filter may put too much pressure on the connecting line and cause it to fall over time.
Once the filter is in place, push the refrigerator to its original position and turn it back on to finish the installation.

    Conclusion

The Clearly Filtered Universal Inline is a splurge, but it’s the obvious pick if you’re looking to reduce a lot of contaminants.

The Everydrop by Whirlpool offers a balance of high flow rate, contaminants removed, filter life, and overall price.

The GE RPWFE is a better filter than the Everydrop. But, you can only use it with GE Appliances refrigerators, so its use is pretty limited unless you have a fridge from that brand.

The Culligan IC 1 EZ-Change Refrigerator Filter is the best choice if you want a durable filter that removes chlorine.

The ICEPURE UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter is a great overall filter that costs low, but can only be used on Whirlpool, Everydrop, and Maytag appliances.

Two independent ICBBI-36UID refrigeration systems ensure optimal temperature conditions in the refrigerator and freezer compartments efficiently. The refrigerator is equipped with a dispenser with a built-in water filter and an automatic ice maker.

The innovative filter, using NASA technology, cleans bacteria and neutralizes ethylene gas inside the refrigerator compartment, which keeps food in the ICBBI-36UID fresher longer than in other refrigerators.

The inner surface of the refrigerator compartments is made of aluminium, covered with white enamel. It is resistant to scratches, does not absorb odors, does not turn yellow, and is easy to clean. The height of the glass shelves can be easily adjusted in 25 cm increments. A special glass coating keeps spilled liquid from spreading outside the shelf. Drawers for vegetables and fruits are hermetically sealed, they are equipped with closers, they slide out smoothly and are easy to take out. The containers are made of transparent, durable plastic that is impact resistant and will not yellow over time.

The premium interior of the Sub-Zero Classic ICBBI-36UID refrigerator is accentuated by thoughtful LED lighting and a stylish touch menu.

All Sub-Zero refrigerators are made in the USA, have undergone meticulous manufacturing controls and come with a 5 year warranty. Sub-Zero/Wolf’s own customer service guarantees the highest level of customer support.

    FEATURES

    MAXIMUM FOOD SAFETY

Sub-Zero microprocessor maintains optimum temperature and humidity levels for better food preservation. The temperature regime is regulated with an accuracy of 0.5C. The microprocessor memorizes the periods of the most frequent use of the refrigerator, in advance reducing the temperature at this time by 1.5 ° C in order to avoid thermal shock for products when the appliance door is opened. The dual compressor system maintains 50% humidity in the common chamber and 80% humidity in the vegetable storage boxes.

    INNOVATIVE AIR CLEANING SYSTEM

Fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator emit ethylene gas, which shortens the shelf life of other foods. Sub-Zero refrigeration appliances are equipped with an antimicrobial air purification system using NASA technology that cleans the air every 20 minutes of ethylene, bacteria, fungal spores and mold that cause unpleasant odors.

    SUB-ZERO SUPERIOR QUALITY

All Sub-Zero instruments use only the highest quality materials and components. All equipment is made in the USA. Sub-Zero/Wolf Russia’s own branded service will quickly solve any technical problem, regardless of its complexity, and anywhere in the CIS. The warranty period is 5 years, the service life is more than 20 years.
