Bluetooth speakers and music are like fish and chips, Netflix and chilling, ballroom dancing and sequins: they just go together. These often inexpensive sonic boxes turn everyone’s phone into a sound system small enough to whisk away on your next sonic adventure.
They’re wireless, so there are no cables for anyone to trip over, and friends can connect wirelessly too, giving you a much broader selection of tunes. Add to this the fact that many models are waterproof, (making them ideal for the beach or pool) and, all things considered, you really have to take one of these mini powerhouses along for the ride.
JBL is a brand to look out for, consistently delivering some of the best Bluetooth speakers around. Here, we’ll look at the various JBL speakers on the market, how they differ, the features they offer and, ultimately, which is the best fit for you.
Obviously, more expensive JBL models have a few more features than their cheaper siblings. Generally speaking, the more you pay, the bigger the battery, giving you not only more time between recharges, but also the potential to juice up your phone or tablet directly from the speaker itself.
Some JBL speakers can connect to your phone’s smart voice assistant, including Google Assistant, Siri or Amazon Alexa – so you could soon be asking your speaker for directions or recipe recommendations. Newer models a function called PartyBoost – essentially a way of connecting multiple speakers at once provided they’re up to date and within range of one another.
The more recent models are fully waterproof (not just splashproof) and a few include a built-in mic for hands-free calling. So without further ado, let’s figure out the best JBL speaker for you.
JBL Flip 6 vs Flip 5: which is flippin’ better?

Let’s start with arguably the most popular JBL wireless speakers: the more up-to-date Flip 6 and its very competent predecessor, the five-star Flip 5.
The Flip 6 It has the same racetrack-shaped driver as the Flip 5, but now has a separate tweeter and dual passive radiators, giving tunes added depth and more power.
It’s also a minor upgrade in terms of durability, being rated IP67 (the Flip 5 was IPX7). That means it has the same waterproof rating as the Flip 5 (surviving full submersion in up to a metre of water for 30 minutes), while also being completely dust-tight.
The Bluetooth is also upgraded, from version 4.2 on the Flip 5 to 5.1, and it has the same PartyBoost feature (which lets you wirelessly pair it with other JBL speakers – including the Flip 5 – for a louder sound), as well as the same 12-hour battery life.
Finally, the colourways are also new. The Flip 6 comes in Dusty Pink, Grey Stone, River Teal, Fiesta Red, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Steel White, Forest Green and Squad.
It costs £129.99 / $129.95 / AU$200, although you’ll certainly be able to find a great deal now that it’s been out for a little while, especially during the Prime Day and Black Friday sales.
The newer edition is going to be pricier than the Flip 5, but given the improvements, it’s definitely worth it.

JBL Charge 5 vs Charge 4: putting the power in ‘power ballads’

The Flips are easily portable, but JBL makes much bigger Bluetooth speakers too, such as the JBL Charge and JBL Xtreme speakers. As you’ll see, they’re very different beasts to a JBL Flip.
The Charge 5 is the newest model in the Charge line-up and a current What Hi-Fi? 2022 Award winner, so it won’t come to anyone’s surprise that we highly recommend it.
Like its predecessor, it doubles as a portable battery pack, charging up your smartphone or tablet – the clue’s in the name.
The battery is a monster 7500mAh, which is good for 20 hours of uninterrupted listening. That equals the Charge 4, but there are plenty of improvements as well. It’s now more durable, for one – its IP67 rating means not only can it survive being dunked in a metre of water for 30 minutes, it’s also completely dust-tight. The exterior has also been overhauled: the ends of its barrel-like bodywork boast a slightly more robust rubberised reinforcement, while the speaker itself is a whole 1mm taller, 2mm deeper, 3mm wider and 5g heavier than its older brother.
The improvements continue on the inside. The 52 x 90mm bass driver is a couple of millimetres wider than Charge 4’s, and there’s a new 20mm tweeter. These units both have dedicated power amplification – 30W for the woofer and 10W for the highs. There is also Bluetooth 5.1 rather than 4.2 on the Charge 4, which gives you greater range and a more robust wireless connection.
Like the Flips, it can connect wirelessly to other JBL speakers thanks to JBL’s PartyBoost mode (though not the Charge 4, which uses the older Connect+ technology). You can either sync them to all play the same song, or split it so one speaker handles the left channel and one the right for a greater sense of scale. You can daisy chain up to 100 speakers in this way. Imagine the noise.
Two smartphones or tablets can connect wirelessly to the Charge 5 at once, so you can share it with a friend (as long as they have good music taste) and it comes in plenty of colours. The 3.5mm headphone port found on the Charge 4 is nowhere to be seen – maybe JBL realised that with all this grunt at their disposal, no one’s listening to this speaker through headphones.
Both the Charge 5 and 4 earned five stars in our reviews, but with the extra features, not to mention the lack of a significant price drop in the older model, we would recommend the newer Charge 5 which can be picked up for around £130 on Amazon UK right now.

JBL Xtreme 3 vs Xtreme 2: Xtremely good sound

The Xtreme is JBL’s other range of larger Bluetooth speakers, the latest of which is the Xtreme 3.
About the size of a handbag, this is unashamedly a boombox, with a focus on field-filling sound. It comes with a strap for lugging from park to pool to beach and back again – and the strap even has a bottle opener built in! There’s 100W of power on offer (up from 80W with the Xtreme 2), but the sound is surprisingly subtle, nowhere near as brash as you might think.
Behind the grille are two 7cm woofers for low frequencies and two 20mm tweeters for the highs, while at either end of the speaker you’ll find a chunky passive bass radiator that pulses enthusiastically along with every bassline. The fact they’re completely sealed around the edges, combined with the resilient exterior material means that, should the Xtreme 3 somehow find itself in the middle of a swimming pool or sandstorm, it should emerge unscathed.
It can help you speak to your smartphone’s voice assistant too. Just press the button, and you can summon either Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant, much like you can with your headphones’ in-line remote. There’s Bluetooth 5.1 (compared to 4.2 on the Xtreme 2) but no wi-fi, so you can’t stream Spotify or Tidal without going through your phone.
JBL PartyBoost comes as standard (the Xtreme 2 has Connect+, so can’t pair with its successor), as does a 10,000mAh battery that’s good for 15 hours before needing a charge. It can also juice up your mobile device using the built-in USB Type-A and Type-C ports, and act as a go-between from your sound source and headphones thanks to the built-in 3.

The Xtreme 3 has more features than the Charge 5, and that carry handle is a great addition for music lovers on the move. The Xtreme 2 is cheaper than the newer model (currently around £149 / $149 on the JBL website) but the Xtreme 3 can also be nabbed for a great deal: £80 off the RRP on Amazon right now. If you’re happy foregoing some of the Charge 5’s features, Xtreme could be the smarter buy. Just don’t forget to bring your own bottle opener.

JBL Go 3: on a budget? Say hello to the Go

What if you’ve scrolled down this list and thought to yourself: “this is all well and good, but I need something much smaller and much cheaper than anything I’ve seen so far?” That, surely, is where the palm-sized JBL Go 3 comes in.
The Go 2 is no longer with us, but JBL is preserving with its most diminutive family member courtesy of the Go 3, a soap-sized operator that offers surprisingly decent sound in a dinky little package. Currently retailing around between £30 – £40 ($30 – $40) mark (deals occasionally bring that figure down to under £30, as do the less popular colours), the Go 3 is a solid option if you’re really tight on space and money. It’s not quite as durable nor has the long battery life as other JBLs, but then look at how tiny it is.
If you simply can’t stand to listen to your smartphone’s tinny little speakers for another second, the JBL Go 3 could be a really smart choice. Alternatively, the slightly larger, slightly more expensive Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 is a more entertaining five-option that gives you plenty of bang for your budget buck.

Are there JBL speakers with wi-fi and hi-res audio?

We normally associate portable speakers with our good old friend Bluetooth, but JBL has this year announced two new models with a wi-fi connection and some great extra features.
The new JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi and the Charge 5 Wi-Fi will allow you to stream music directly to the speaker from your music streaming service of choice thanks to wi-fi powers. Both new speakers also support 24-bit/96kHz hi-res playback over wi-fi, as long as you’ve got a stable connection. They also give access to AirPlay 2, Alexa MRM and Chromecast, not to mention podcasts and internet radio, pushing up the number of listening options available over that wi-fi connection compared with the Bluetooth-only models (which still carry on as normal). Additionally, the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi will also play Dolby Atmos-powered spatial audio tunes through Tidal – the first JBL speaker to support the immersive format.

The world’s best-selling wireless speaker has received a major upgrade. Now a new version is available in Kaliningrad – JBL Charge 4!
Since the JBL Charge 3 was one of the best wireless speakers on the market, JBL has made a number of improvements to the new model.
For the 9490 you get a lot of power, high sound quality, tons of features and of course portability.
Let’s talk about all this in more detail.
Sound
Let’s start with the most important feature, sound. The JBL Charge 4 is one of the best sounding speakers on the market right now.
Dual passive radiators provide great bass for such a small package. However, the overall sound tone favors the mid-range, so you also get clear and crisp vocals.
No noticeable distortion even at maximum volume. All 30 watts of power declared by the manufacturer are available to you.
This is a significant increase in production compared to the previous generation of speakers, which is a very important factor for buying, given that the previous generation of JBL Charge 3 recently cost the same amount. are more of a cosmetic nature. They are minor in most cases, but well done as always with JBL.
From the past design, a durable fabric-like coating is left to protect the speakers.
What else? New button layout and slightly modified shape. And, of course, the extended range of colors.
The JBL Charge 4 is slightly larger than its predecessor, but still portable enough to fit in a purse or backpack: it is about 22 centimeters long and 10 centimeters in diameter and weighs 2 kilograms.
As the name suggests, the Charge 4 still has the ability to charge your gadgets via USB, thanks to a very large battery hidden inside.
This large battery also allows the Charge 4 to play for over 20 hours on a single use. We got 22 hours on the test and still had a charge.
JBL Charge 3 vs. JBL Charge 4
For ourselves, we made the following conclusions about the differences between Charge 3 and Charge 4: noticeable only if a simultaneous comparison is made.
Secondly, the sound of : The Charge 4 reproduces vocals better than the Charge 3. It sounds clearer and more separated from the music.
Overall, both speakers sound very good, with quite a bit of difference from each other, but not noticeable unless you’re an expert in the field.

The current situation is not conducive to going to a pub club. The safest way to spend time with friends, apart from Zoom and other instant messaging services, is, of course, at home or traveling to rarely visited places. If you decide to organize the latter, Xtreme 3 takes care of the sound.
This is JBL’s third generation of off-road speakers, now with more powerful speakers, Bluetooth 5.1 and even higher environmental resistance. The case, made of rubber and hard plastic, received an IP67 water and dust protection rating. Of course, December is not the time to go to the beach (although at least it won’t be crowded), but this feature will come in handy during the holiday season. Compared to most portable Bluetooth speakers, the Xtreme 3 is large and heavy, so it comes with a dedicated shoulder strap (with the obligatory bottle opener) to carry it around.
The stability of the connection is very good: you can move away from the device at 10 m without the risk of losing connection with your smartphone, and the ability to pair two sound sources at the same time allows several people to take turns DJing. In addition, we get support for JBL PartyBoost technology, which allows you to combine compatible JBL speakers into a stereo or multi-room system. What we missed completely was NFC pairing to speed up the connection of equipment with smartphones and tablets.
When playing music, the Xtreme 3’s first impression is the deep bass. Two woofers are responsible for reproducing low frequencies, accompanied by pulsating passive radiators located on the round walls of the speaker. As a result, the bass sounds energetic and juicy, the device evenly distributes it around itself, filling the entire space with rhythmic and controlled beats. The two tweeters, in turn, provide a proper selection of high frequencies. We noticed that the mids seem a bit muffled in bassy tracks, but not to the point that the music sounds unpleasant. Ah, if all this was accompanied by the aptX codec…..
One charge of the speaker lasted us about 13 hours of playback, and to replenish the battery we connected a smartphone to it during playback; Xtreme 3 can act as a wired USB-A powerbank. A full battery charge takes just over 2.5 hours.
New from JBL released at a bad time – this is equipment designed primarily for spring and summer. We are sure that when the days become long again and the nights warm again, she will give us a lot of pleasure.
Though it has a smaller footprint to save on space, it still has a desirable bottom freezer. Plus, it has a temperature-controlled drawer and internal digital controls, not to mention a stylish design.
Like other larger appliances manufactured by the brand, this unit is nice and sleek, with contoured platinum doors and curved handles.

We love that it cools quickly, so you can plug in the appliance and put your groceries away almost immediately. And, unlike other price-friendly models, this unit comes in multiple finishes—including white, platinum steel, and black—all of which are within just $50 of one another.
The model has a small footprint, but still features 10.1 cubic feet of space—7.4 cubic feet of space in the fridge and 2.7 cubic feet of space in the top freezer. It’s a bit less than some other models on the market, but still plenty to store a small family’s groceries for the week.
The Danby DAR110A1WDD is a solid choice. It’s made to run in these kinds of spaces, but it’s still as functional as you’d hope. It may not have a freezer, but the unit, which measures 24 x 26 x 58 inches, does have a half-depth shelf and four full-depth glass shelves for tasty snacks, drinks, and leftover containers.
This unit eliminates the need to stash a cumbersome ice tray, since it has a built-in automatic version—no need to buy a separate kit.

The inexpensive model doesn’t have as much storage space or an ice maker, but it’s well-priced, plus has the important conveniences, like thoughtful shelving, automatic defrosting, and a reversible door.
We love the GE GLE12HSPSS. It has both built-in and counter-depth design and storage for wine bottles, making easy organization a top amenity.
This is enough room for one or two people’s weekly groceries, making it a typical pick for RVs and apartments. When measuring a spot for your new appliance, you’ll want to make sure you have at least 26 to 28 inches of room, as all fridges need clearance so they can operate and be accessed with ease. Check how wide your refrigerator of choice is with the door open, too, to ensure it truly fits.
Most don’t have ice makers, water dispensers, or other premium features that can drive up the price. In general, you can expect to spend between $400 and $800 for a suitable narrow refrigerator. But note: There are outliers—the most basic may cost just $300, while the most expensive can run a couple thousands of dollars.

We do think it could benefit from a slight improvement in its edging ability and a reduction in weight. This model is extremely easy to handle and move around corners. Additional premium features of this model include a HEPA filter (so that dust and debris won’t fly out of the vacuum) and a ‘Lift Away’ mode, which allows users to take apart the vacuum and use it as a handheld vacuum. These two features are commonly seen on more premium upright vacuums, and you’ll rarely see them at this price point.
This stand-up stick vacuum works like a full-sized machine — but is much easier to handle — leaving us with few critiques about its performance. This machine handles hair extremely well because the brush penetrates the carpet to extract hair while the agitator self-cleans. The Pet Pro comes with crevice, brush, and pet tools for furniture and stairs. Also, the “stick” portion of the machine can be removed, turning it into a handheld vacuum — a real plus for vehicle cleaning. The unit is just eight pounds, it has an easy-to-swap battery that lasts up to 21 minutes (in economical mode), and it has a swift recharge time of just 2.5 hours. The Pro does well on both hard and soft surfaces, large and small debris, and its 37″ articulating shaft makes it easy to get under the couch or bed without getting on your hands and knees. 
However, run the agitator perpendicular to the wall, and there is almost no gap. As a bonus, the Pet Pro is freestanding — a rarity among stick vacuums — so it will stand at attention until the next time you need it.
A simple click of a button allows the system to transition into a handheld model for cleaning non-floor surfaces like couch cushions or car seats. This cordless model won’t be limited to locations with power outlets, so you can easily float this around the entire house without needing to replug. The machine has average maneuverability, but you should have no trouble getting around furniture and tight corners. It boasts an impressive battery life, with power settings ranging from eco to boost. When all the cleaning is done and you’re ready to relax, this system folds down, easily packing away into tight places. 
However, much of that weight is held in the brush head. Additionally, it’s on the pricier side. This is quite an impressive machine and we think the investment will be worth the extra cleaning power and performance.
We were impressed by its ability to plow through cereal, oatmeal, and flour in our hard surface and carpet cleaning tests. At 11 pounds, this vacuum cleaner is also one of the easiest to carry up and down stairs. We appreciated this model for its impressive cleaning performance, handling, and ease of use.
The machine’s key feature is a floor cleaning attachment with a rolling brush (agitator) that makes it more like an upright vacuum cleaner while maintaining the advantages and simplicity of a canister unit. Given the benefits of having an agitator, we were not surprised that the Turbo did well on carpets of all pile lengths (but particularly on the shorter variety) and most debris types. Its swivel head makes it more maneuverable than most canister units, too, while its floor attachment does reasonably well at collecting debris in corners and against baseboards. While this unit performed well across the board, it shined when picking up flour (fine debris) and the toughest debris of all — pet hair. 
Its ease of use was further impacted by its middling weight of 15.2 pounds — not the heaviest but certainly not the lightest either. Despite this, the Turbo does a great job reaching under low furniture and has a maximum reach of 30 feet for an outlet to the attachment. If this vacuum cleaner fits your budget, it’s a great buy, particularly for pet owners with loads of carpeting. 
This model was a top performer in our best handheld vacuum review. The machine has an accordion hose for long reaches, multiple attachments for those hard-to-reach places, and high airflow through its 1 3/16 inch hose end. The Flex Vac did well sucking up animal hair and large debris, such as Mini-Wheats cereal, without clogging. Moreover, the little vac did a great job cleaning deep cracks and crevices (easily reaching 36″ into a 3″ gap), and it did above average in cleaning dusty surfaces with a brush attachment.
Also, the Flex Vac is a bit heavy at three pounds. Finally, the unit’s three attachments lack onboard storage though there is a place to organize them on the battery dock. Yet, the large and easy-to-empty canister counteracts some of these convenience shortfalls. All in all, the Flex Vac still performs quite well across the board. 
The narrow nozzle with the built-in extension makes it effective at getting to those hard-to-reach places without needing multiple attachments. In the same vein, the rotating nozzle feature is a boon for maintaining a good grip on the handle when probing between couch cushions and the like. Also, the fold-down brush does well for vacuuming baseboards, though you need to be mindful not to scratch the wall with the plastic backing. Finally, the Black+Decker HHVI320JR02’s battery lasts ~15.5 minutes, weighs 2.4 pounds, and has an easy-to-empty debris receptacle. 
It effortlessly cleaned up oatmeal and rice, even on fluffy carpet.
This robot is one of the first to explore mopping functionalities and actually mops pretty well. It is also a keen navigator and doesn’t bump your furniture, but still manages to clean pretty close against obstacles. One of the things we loved most about this model was its latest and greatest pet poop-avoidance technology. When we set up simulated poop in our test suite, the S7 noticed it immediately and kept its distance. We highly recommend this model to those who want the most out of a robot vacuum. 
This model is easily at the top of its class in our cordless wet dry vacuum review. It is conveniently streamlined and also packs a powerful electric motor that will bust the toughest messes, be they sopping wet or dry as a bone. Soaked carpets? Heavy nuts and bolts? Piles of sawdust? It will suck all that up without a fuss and, with its HEPA filter, will blow nearly particular-free air out the tail-end. When your work is done, the M18 has a slick, toolbox-like design that accommodates all the attachments and self-retracting hose within. Another nice design feature is the hose routing that runs straight into the can where others use an easily-clogged elbow. 
At four minutes and 39 seconds per amp hour, it’s below average for its class. And, at 10 lbs 2 oz, it’s on the heavy end of its class, too. However, its hose stretches from 24 to 90 ½ inches, so you shouldn’t have to move it around too much. All in all, this is one heck of a wet dry machine, and we feel that most will overlook its deficiencies in light of its exceptional performance and ease of use.
