“I never would have thought that having a turntable untethered from my stereo would be so liberating, but it’s a game-changer. To be able to spin vinyl from anywhere — where I’m working, where I’m entertaining — seems like not a big deal until you experience it.”
“Sweet little portable turntable. Love the Bluetooth functionality combined with the old school vinyl experience. Suitcase design makes it easy to take anywhere and the sound quality is awesome!”
“I have the Empire and just love it. It is designed beautifully, and I can also use it for CD’s and radio. I can’t believe how great it is to listen to my old records. It feels like home again.”
“I am a huge Vinyl collector, I have everything from movie sound tracks to classic rock legends. However, your average radio player doesn’t play them, so I haven’t even gotten to listen to any of them! That’s when I found this product — and I ABSOLUTELY love it!”
“What sound! I am truly blown away. My wife purchased this for me as a Christmas gift as I have a growing box of Vinyl but no record player. I can tell you after one listen I was stunned, the V1 sounds amazing, I even replaced my entire home stereo with the V1, the built in speakers paired with the wireless sub is simple to use, sounds amazing for vinyl, movies and it even has Bluetooth, score!”

Four Laws of the Klipsch Universe
Beginning in 1946, company founder, Paul W. Klipsch believed four principles to be the foundation for great sound. Together, these four design principles—high efficiency with low distortion, controlled directivity, flat frequency response, and wide dynamic range—have and always will be the foundation for our stunningly powerful and precise sound.
Tips and Tricks
For helpful tips and additional speaker information visit our online FAQs.
Features
Every Reference speaker utilizes our Tractrix® Horn technology for lifelike sound, more output using less energy, improved reliability, reduced distortion and a large soundstage with well-defined imaging.
Our light, yet rigid Cerametallic woofer cones feature specially treated aluminum to help better dampen and prevent distortion.
Titanium tweeter with linear travel suspension—trickle-down technology from our flagship Palladium Series—provides an open, natural sound, making you feel as if you’re in the studio with the recording artist or on the set of a film.
Enhanced crossover frequencies offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

If you are looking for a new pair of speakers to invest in, this article might be the perfect find for you.
Today I’ll be reviewing the Klipsch RB 61 II bookshelf speakers, a speaker that offers great imaging and optimal soundstage for a low cost, similar to the Polk T300 bookshelf speaker.
Let’s learn more about the US-based company, Klipsch.
If you are an audiophile you can carry on. I mean when it comes to audio, Klipsch has got to be one of the main players, or even legends out there with regards to audio devices.
Every audiophile must have heard of Paul Klipsch. He founded the loudspeaker company back in 1946. Since then Klipsch has carried on their founder’s passion to deliver the world, the best home audio experience possible.
Let’s find out about their bookshelf speaker, Klipsch RB 61 II live up to Klipsch’s prominent name.
Klipsch RB-61 II
This is great for people who appreciate a minimalist style because it is stylish and discrete. All kinds of musical genres, from jazz to rock, sound terrific and have a superb soundstage. Additionally fantastic for viewing television and movies due of how clear the dialogue sounds.

Klipsch RB 61 II Bookshelf Speakers: Big Sound for Home Theater
Good quality from Klipsch is taken for granted. I can confidently say that Klipsch speakers are one of the best offerings that the audio realm has.
It is not only me who is talking about Klipsch speakers; you will find people speaking about them across the whole sound community. Most speakers out there can’t even hand a candle to Klipsch.
Those bookshelf speakers are great surround speakers that not only offer good looks but also exceptional sound.
You will be hard-pressed to find a bookshelf speaker that offers crisp sound as good as this one offering from Klipsch.
Simple, yet Intriguing, the Design:
Besides wanting your speakers to sound good, you want their design and materials to be good too. As important as the sound quality is, having an attractive design will help the speakers form a focal point in your home.
Good looks from Klipsch are taken for granted, you just can’t hate the iconic copper woofers. The cabinets are made out of quality MDF that is fully covered in glossy black vinyl. The front face of the cabinet is consumed by a large baffle that gives the impression that it’s floating.
Klipsch decided to go for a front-firing port that is located right underneath the woofer cone. As I mentioned, at first sight, the RB-61 looks like the rest of its brother, it features that nice black and bronze signature theme, that has proven to be successful many times. On top of all that, it promises to blend into pretty much any interior.
As I explain the Features, you will realize that a loudspeaker design, means more than just aesthetic.
Features:
Feature-wise, the RB-61 II bookshelf loudspeaker doesn’t look too special. However, when you look closer you will spot some things that stand out.
No doubt, first of all, would be the known enhanced titanium Linear Travel Suspension, while the tweeter sits comfortably in the Tractrix horn.
The woofer comes in a form of a 6.5 cerametallic cone and it is combined by two transducers that operate on 100 Watts RMS or say 95 dB sensitivity.
Its crossover is dialed for 1500Hz, it sure comes pretty high. Thanks to its front firing slot style port you won’t have to worry about the distance to walls when positioning the speaker. Something we encounter a lot with other speakers.
Klipsch also included dual binding posts, which serve for high frequency and low frequency.
I am a fan of rock music, and everything that has to do with rock. I personally use these as my rock music speakers because of their looks and performance.
Splendid Performer, Performance:
You often hear the expression ‘sound stage’, even I used it as soon as I started writing. Let me help you by clarifying what it means.
Basically, it is like a 3D sound, imagine you are sitting in a space with instruments and musicians around you meaning a good soundstage will let you hear and pinpoint all instruments that are playing around you.
And having a good stage is what Klipsch does the best. Thanks to their Tractrix horn technology in the cabinets, they give accurate and virtually distortion-free tones. The horn technology and the titanium diaphragm compression driver are what sets this bookshelf speaker apart from the competition.
Crisp Highs with deep low ends. Playing music on them will feel like another level.
Their tweeter delivers crisp highs, the horn design allows the spread of the sound across the whole “soundstage”, while the woofer gives the low frequencies deep and resonant bottom end.
Klipsch also has included a new crossover system. It separates the main areas of the sound stage.
Basically, the lows, mids, and highs, so it can ensure good clear separation.
All this makes the RB-61 II sound splendid. They offer a great overall sound that is accurate and controlled.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Stylish and Discreet, making it perfect for those who prefer a minimalist aesthetic
The soundstage, the overall warm and great for listening to music, all kinds of genres from rock to jazz and even classical music.
Fills medium sized rooms with great sound
Outstanding sound reproduction and superb damping characteristics
Flat Frequency Response
Also great for watching movies and TV because its a great speaker for dialogue clarity. Make sure you connect it to your surround system for even better results.
Cons:
Bass might come across as generic and this bothers some people
There’s no spot or “hole” in the back meaning it is not mountable on the wall
A bit less distortion would have been appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions, F.A.Q:
Are they Front-firing or rear-firing speakers?
They are front-firing since there is no rear port.
Do they provide enough bass without a subwoofer?
If you just use them for average tasks or simply as a home theater to watch movies to listen to music, they will be more than fine with their bass. To get the best experience, i recommend you get a pair of headphones for watching movies instead.
But if you are into something more “overkill” you might need a subwoofer.
Can you mount it on the wall?
Sadly, No you can’t, it has no wall mounting bracket. If you want a wall-mountable speaker, take a look at our Klipsch KHO-7 Review.
Final Words:
We arrived in the end and by now I am sure you noticed that I was quite impressed with the Klipsch RB 61 II.
But of course, there’s no speaker or device, in general, that is perfect, they all compromise on some fields while exceeding on some.
That’s the case with the Klipsch RB 61 II too, I would prefer it to be a real wood speaker, a better finish than a vinyl could have been applied, also the mount bracket.
Yet again, this would cause cost issues so in a way all of Klipsch RB 61 II drawbacks are understandable.
In the end, it all boils too, for the price they offer great value to the table. Great sound quality from Klipsch.

Whether you want to host a pool party, listen to your favorite tunes in your backyard, or spice up your next hike at the local park, an outdoor speaker is a great way to bring audio with you on the go. Many portable Bluetooth speakers on the market are battery-operated, so you can use them outside without worrying about plugging them into an outlet. Plus, their sturdy and solid designs help withstand the bumps and falls that come with an active lifestyle, and they even boast IP ratings for dust and water resistance to help them withstand the elements. We’ve also tested a few speakers that blend into your landscaping, which is a neat touch. However, the scope of our testing hasn’t expanded to speakers designed to live outdoors permanently, so you’ll want to remember to bring them inside at the end of the day unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
We’ve tested over 110 speakers, and below, you’ll find our recommendations for the best wireless outdoor speakers. If you want more options, check out our recommendations for the best portable Bluetooth speakers, the best waterproof Bluetooth speakers, and the best Bluetooth speakers under $100.

The JBL Boombox 3 is the best outdoor speaker we’ve tested. This speaker is a great pick for listening to music wherever you go, whether you’re soaking up the sun in the backyard or relaxing at the campsite over a long weekend. It’s also designed to hold up against the elements— it’s rated IP67 for dust and water resistance, and it even floats in water. Its solid and sturdy build gives it a great feel, and with a built-in handle, you can carry it around in one hand. Since it lasts for over 29 hours off a single charge, you don’t have to worry about getting it back to a power outlet for a recharge all that often.
This speaker is larger than some of the other picks on our list, but it pays off in terms of sound quality. Right out of the box, you get a clear and detailed sound. The extra heft also allows the device to reproduce a deep and extended low-bass. As a result, it’s especially suitable for listening to genres like EDM and hip-hop, which have a little extra bass mixed in from the jump. If you want a different sound, a graphic EQ is available in the JBL Portable app for manual customization.
As the best Bluetooth outdoor speaker we’ve tested, it’s easy to stream audio from your phone to the device wherever you go. If you want something a little lighter for longer treks outdoors, you can check out some of the more budget-friendly options on our list, but if you want the best of the best, this speaker is worth a look.

Looking for a more affordable speaker to bring outside? Check out the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3. This versatile device is great for both indoor and outdoor use. Take it to the park for an afternoon with your friends, then bring it back home to relax to music in your living room. Its small and lightweight design makes it easy to bring wherever you go, and you can even clip it to your bag with its built-in hook. Plus, it’s sturdy enough to endure some exposure to the elements while you’re outside, thanks to its IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
This cool speaker is available in lots of different colors to suit your style, and its great sound quality makes it suitable for listening to lots of different music genres. Voices and lead instruments are reproduced with clarity, and you can even switch up its sound to add more thump in the bass or brightness in the treble using the graphic EQ in the Ultimate Ears app. Granted, it doesn’t bring as much low-bass as the JBL Boombox 3, but the tradeoff may be worth it if you’re looking for a smaller, lighter outdoor speaker. This speaker is a great choice if you want to listen to music on your next outdoor adventure.

The Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 3 is the best budget outdoor speaker we’ve tested. This small but mighty speaker is a great choice for listening to tunes on the go or even pumping up the action at your next pool party. It’s one of the few speakers we’ve tested that can float in water, which is cool, and it also boasts an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Plus, it’s small and lightweight, so you can easily carry it in one hand. The included strap is handy for clipping it onto your bag, too.
This wallet-friendly pick still offers a solid sound quality, making it suitable for listening to many music genres. Its Outdoor mode is even designed to bring a little extra crispness to the mix when you’re out in a larger, more open-air space, which is a cool touch. You can rock out throughout the day since it lasts over 22 hours off a single charge. That said, since it’s smaller than the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3, it’s not a surprise that it can’t reproduce as deep of a low-bass, so you notice a little less rumble in tracks like EDM and hip-hop. Still, it’s a stand-out pick if you’re on a tighter budget.

If you’re looking for a simple speaker that won’t break the bank, the Anker Soundcore 2 is worth a look. It’s another wallet-friendly pick available at an even cheaper price, and it boasts a really solid sound quality compared to other similarly-priced models. Voices and lead instruments are clear and present in the mix, whether listening to music or enjoying the latest podcasts. It doesn’t come with sound customization tools like the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 3, but you may find that you don’t need them in the first place.
With a small and portable design, this speaker is a great choice for listening to your favorite tunes while out and about. You can easily toss it into your bag or backpack for a day at the park or a hike in the woods. It has a solid and sturdy build, too, so you don’t have to worry too much about damaging it. It can’t float in water like the Ultimate Ears, but it’s still rated IPX7 for water resistance if you come across light exposure to the elements. It lasts 15 hours on a single charge, so you can listen to your tunes all day without interruption. If you’re looking for a simple model or are investing in a speaker for the first time, this pick is worth a look.

Want a more discreet speaker for your backyard? Prefer something that can live outside 24/7? Check out the Pohopa EF-B210G. These stylish speakers come in pairs of two, and they’re designed to look like lanterns so they don’t distract from your landscaping. With LED lights inside each device, you can also use them to illuminate your outdoor patio, so they serve two functions in one. Stream audio from your phone using Bluetooth, and you enjoy over 60 hours of uninterrupted playback time. Don’t worry about the elements, either—these speakers are also rated IP54 for dust and water resistance.
However, like most outdoor decor speakers we’ve tested, these devices prioritize design over sound quality. They’re more than suitable for most casual listening sessions. However, if you’re an astute audiophile, you’ll notice a muddier and more cluttered sound than premium tools like the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3. Plus, without any customization tools, you don’t have any way to switch up their performance. If you aren’t worried about the fidelity of audio reproduction, they’re still a great choice, and you won’t have any trouble hearing your music or podcasts through the speaker. Ultimately, they still rank among the best wireless outdoor speakers we’ve tested.

Smart speakers are a great option if you’re looking for hands-free control since their built-in voice assistants are designed to respond to your commands with ease. While most are designed with in-home use in mind, the Sonos Move offers the flexibility to take your smart device outside with you. Its built-in handle makes it easier to transport to your backyard, and its IP56 rating for dust and water resistance adds some protection against the elements. It’s a well-built and premium speaker with great sound quality overall, though it’s not small enough for long days outside like the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3, so you’ll probably just want to keep it to your porch or backyard.
Inside, you can connect the speaker to your home network over Wi-Fi. Since it also supports Bluetooth, you can wirelessly stream content to the device when you’re outside. Plus, its bass and treble adjustments give you some ability to customize its sound, which is handy. The app even lets you pair the device to other Sonos products, boosting audio throughout your home and backyard. With a 10-hour battery life, it’ll last through a day outside without worrying about a recharge. It’s a great voice assistant option for those interested in this technology.

Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM:
The Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM is a portable Bluetooth speaker that can get incredibly loud with little compression at max volume. It can produce a more extended low-bass than the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3 and has a longer-lasting battery life of almost 24 hours. It isn’t as well-built or portable as the MEGABOOM 3, and it’s too large and heavy to take on hikes, for instance.

Alpine Corporation Solar Bluetooth Rock Speaker:
The Alpine Corporation Solar Bluetooth Rock Speaker is designed to look like a rock that blends nicely with outdoor landscaping. It has a solar panel atop it, so its battery nearly never drains when exposed to sunlight. However, it downmixes stereo content to mono to play it, which isn’t as immersive. It also doesn’t produce an as extended low-bass as the Pohopa EF-B210G speakers.

Limitless Innovations TikiTunes:
The Limitless Innovations TikiTunes is a cheap outdoor speaker designed to look like a torch and comes with an amber light built-in that mimics a flickering flame. However, it has an uneven sound profile and doesn’t come with any customization features. It also doesn’t get as loud as the Pohopa EF-B210G speakers, and its battery doesn’t last as long.

The Pohopa EF-B210G are unique outdoor speakers designed to look like lanterns that are advertised for indoor and outdoor use. They can pair to each other and are rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, though we don’t currently test for this. They can have an outstanding Bluetooth range and a long battery life which is great for long days spent outdoors. They have a slightly boomy sound profile that can muddy vocals and lead instruments, while the overemphasized high-mids can make those same instruments a bit honky and harsh at times. Unfortunately, there aren’t any sound customization features available.
Our Verdict
6.1
Music
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers are passable for music. They have a slightly boomy sound profile that can muddy vocals and lead instruments, while the overemphasized high-mids can make those same instruments a bit honky and harsh at times. However, they also struggle to reproduce a thumpy low-bass, which is disappointing if you like bass-heavy music. That said, they can play stereo content, and though they don’t get very loud, they don’t have a lot of compression artifacts at max volume, so audio reproduction is clean and pure.
Pros
Not a lot of compression at max volume.
Can play stereo content.
5.4
Videos/Movies
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers are inadequate for videos and movies. They have an uneven sound profile lacking in low-bass which can make it difficult to feel the thump and rumble in action-packed movies. Its overemphasized high-bass can make your audio sound boomy, and the underemphasized low-mids can muddy vocals and dialogue. The overemphasized high-mids can also make those same vocals and dialogue sound honky and harsh at times. Their latency performance is likely too high to be suitable for watching videos and movies using iOS and Android devices; however, some apps compensate for latency differently, and your experience may vary. That said, there isn’t a lot of compression at max volume, and they can play stereo content.
6.8
Podcasts
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers are okay for podcasts. Their overemphasized high-mids make dialogue and vocals sound honky and harsh which can be disappointing if you enjoy listening to a lot of podcasts. They also have inadequate directivity, meaning your audio may not sound as clear from all angles. That said, they’re very portable and don’t have a lot of compression artifacts at max volume, so their audio reproduction is clear and pure.
2.5
Voice Assistant
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers don’t support voice assistants.
6.6

These speakers are also rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, though we don’t currently test for this. Compared To Other Speakers
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers are indoor and outdoor stereo speakers designed to look like lanterns. The Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 is a better overall outdoor speaker than the Pohopa EF-B210G speakers. The Pohopa EG-B210G Speakers are better outdoor speakers than the Alpine Corporation Solar Bluetooth Rock Speaker overall. They come in a pair of two speakers that can be paired together. They also get louder and have a more extended low-bass, though their sound profile is a bit uneven. They’re also rated IP54 for dust and water resistance though we don’t test for this. However, the Alpine has better latency performance with iOS and Android devices than the Pohopa speakers, and some users may prefer its rock-like design with a built-in solar panel.

Though the Pohopa speakers don’t have a great soundstage performance, unlike the Theater Solutions, they can play stereo content. That said, the Theater Solutions can connect to over 99 additional B83GR speakers, and may be better suited for those with a larger outdoor space. Its rock-like design can also help it blend in with outdoor landscapes better.

Update 04/08/2021: We updated the review to reflect that the speaker has an IP5X rating for dust resistance
The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers are decently built. Though we don’t test for this, they’re rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, and the LED lights underneath their tops are covered by a plastic shield, though they aren’t properly aligned on some areas on the Secondary speaker. Each speaker has an LED light on the rear, which indicates when it’s connected to Bluetooth and when it’s paired to the other one. They have a metal grille protecting their drivers and a panel with a wooden design covering their sides and rear. They also have a cover protecting their ports; however, it’s important to note that only the Host speaker has an AUX port.

When both speakers are on, they connect automatically, the LED light on the rear of the Host speaker blinks blue, and the one on the Secondary speaker is solid green. The power buttons can also be used to play and pause audio by pressing them once while the speakers are on. You can also control the volume by pressing the “+” and “-” buttons on the Host. To skip to the next song, press and hold the “+” button, and to go back to the previous song, press and hold the “-” button. While there’s some audible feedback when they’re turned on and off, as well as when Bluetooth is pairing, there isn’t any way to monitor their volume level.
You can use the LED button to turn the strip lights on. Pressing this button controls the lights on both speakers when they’re paired to each other. The lights also stop alternating colors when your music is paused.

The Pohopa EF-B210G speakers have sub-par frequency response accuracy. They struggle to reproduce a thumpy, rumbling low-bass which can be disappointing to fans of bass-heavy music like EDM. However, there’s an overemphasis in the high-bass that adds a boomy quality to your mix and can make vocals and lead instruments sound a bit muddy and cluttered. Finally, the overemphasis in the high-mid range can also cause those same vocals and instruments to sound a bit honky and harsh at times.

FM dipole design
One area in which dipole antennas are often used is for the reception of VHF FM broadcasts. Many Hi-Fi tuners and other radios have input sockets that will accept the input from a coaxial feeder, and where no external antenna is used, a dipole antenna can provide an excellent solution.
The FM dipole antenna is most likely to provide greatly improved reception over many other improvised solutions that may be used.
It is quite easy to make a simple DIY FM dipole antenna. They can be made in a variety of ways, and for minimal cost. They may prove to be the ideal solution for an internal FM antenna, possibly in the attic or roof space, or they may be used when a temporary antenna is needed.
If they are to be used for internal use, then there is no need to use expensive materials to ensure they are not affected by the weather. Instead for internal use the DIY VHF FM dipole can be made from commonly available materials and therefore the cost is likely to be minimal. It may even be possible to make a simple FM dipole using items that may already be in a junk box, or in a workshop or garage.
Dipole antenna basics
The dipole antenna consists of two poles or parts. For a half wave dipole each leg of the dipole will be an electrical quarter wavelength long.
The length of the dipole is determined by the frequency of operation. The FM broadcast band extends from 87.5 MHz up to 108 MHz. This is quite a wide bandwidth to be covered by a resonant antenna such as the dipole antenna, but as it is only used for reception the performance at the band edges is not as important as if it were to be used for transmitting.
The basic design for the FM dipole antenna is shown below.
Basic half wave dipole antenna
In the diagram each leg of the dipole antenna is joined to the feeder. This can either be open wire / twin feeder, or coax can be used. Strictly speaking a balun should be used when coax or coaxial cable is used. This is because coax is what is termed an unbalanced feeder, i.e. the outer shield is connected to earth and the antenna is balanced. However for this application, no noticeable degradation should be seen and the VHF FM dipole antenna should operate quite satisfactorily without one. In this case the inner conductor of the coax is connected to one leg of the dipole and the outer conductor (braid) of the coax is connected to the other leg of the dipole antenna.
How to make the simple DIY FM dipole antenna design
To make the simple DIY FM dipole antenna, only a few items are needed. Typically these will be:
Twin flex – twin mains flex is idea but we used some old speaker flex.
Tie wrap – to secure the centre of the dipole and prevent the flex opening out beyond what is needed.
String or twine to secure the ends of the dipole to relevant fixing points (if required).
Connectors – if it is to be connected to coaxial cable.
Components required to make an FM dipole antenna
One advantage of using mains flex is that when used as a feeder for radio frequency signals this type of wire is a reasonably close approximation to 75 ohm twin or open wire feeder. This is convenient if a reasonable length is needed. For making our FM dipole antenna, we used some cheap speaker wire.
FM dipole made from twin flex
To make up the VHF FM dipole antenna, first the cable should have the two insulated wires split back away from one another and opened out. The centre should then be secured to prevent the cable opening out any further. One method of doing this is to use a tie wrap such as those available from most electronics components stockists. The length of wire which has not been split can then be used as the feeder for the antenna.
A tie wrap can be used to secure the centre point of the FM dipole antenna
The overall length for the antenna should be about 150 cms, i.e. each leg should be 75 cms. This length should make the resonant frequency fall slightly in the lower half of the FM broadcast band, but often the more popular stations may be found in this region. If the resonant frequency is required to be higher then the antenna can be shortened slightly.
It is quite easy to calculate the length from one of the following equations:
length (metres)=150 Af
length (inches)=5905 Af
Sometimes the equations vary a little in the constants used, as this depends on a variety of factors including the wire used, environment, frequency and the like. However it is a very good starting point and certainly good enough for making the FM dipole antenna.
The ends of the wire can be knotted as shown to enable it to be attached to some twine or string to set it up on a loft space, etc. If this is done, the length should be taken to the extremity of the wire and any wire that is part of the knot or doubled back should not be included in the length. The knotting of the wire will add some inductance to the end of the wire, possibly making it a little long, but it should be fine for reception.
The wire end of the FM dipole is knotted
As we already had some coax cable installed around the house, our antenna was connected to a coax connector, and a mating version was attached to the coax cable. It is noting that twin feeder, such as that formed by the flex does not perform well when routed for long lengths through a house and signal losses will rise – better to use coax as this is not affected in the same way.
When installing the antenna, as far as is possible in a roof space, the antenna should away from metal objects as this will reduce the signal levels. In particular the ends of the antenna are more sensitive to nearby metal objects.
We strung our antenna up in the loft or roof space. As many VHF FM stations use vertical polarisation these days, we mounted the dipole in a vertical fashion: one end attached to a convenient nail in the wooden constriction of the roof, and the other end held down by a weight. The coax was lead away at right angles – as much as you can in these circumstances!
How to make a VHF FM folded dipole antenna
Many VHF FM hi-fi tuners have a 300 ohm input as well as the standard 75 ohm one. This input will normally have screw terminals although they will sometimes have a special 300 ohm connector. This input is ideal for use with a VHF FM folded dipole antenna which can be made up very simply. It requires only the use of a length of 300 ohm ribbon cable (not the computer multi-stranded ribbon cable) which can be bought from most electronic component stockists.
The first stage is to cut a length slightly longer than that required for the dipole element. At either end the centre plastic should be cut back and the remaining wire on either side stripped and joined together. This should be done making sure that the overall length of the element is correct.
The next stage is to cut the bottom wire in the centre. The wires should be stripped back so that a second length of ribbon can be attached. This can be made any suitable length, bearing in mind that it is likely to introduce a reasonable amount of loss if it is run within the house close to other objects. This enables the 300 ribbon to be used as feeder to be connected. This may be any suitable length.
This cheap and easy VHF FM dipole antenna is suitable for areas with high signal strengths, or it may be used as a temporary measure. The 300 ribbon cable is generally clear and can be hidden quite easily. Often this type of aerial can be fixed behind a curtain rail or a large piece of furniture.
A dipole antenna is often an ideal solution for an antenna for receiving VHF FM broadcasts. The FM dipole antenna can be a cheap and effective solution, and they can be made in a variety of forms – only two ideas are given above, but it is possible to make a VHF FM dipole antenna in many more ways according to what may be available and what the requirements are.

Buying Guide for the Best FM Antennas
Even though all FM radios come with inbuilt antennas, they might not be the most powerful ones. Because of this, you may face range issues while listening to your favorite FM radio station.
To overcome this issue, you can consider going with something like the best FM antennas given above. With these various FM antennas, you can also find their important specifications and factors to pick the right one for you. And those of you who are interested in knowing, even more, can also consider checking out this detailed buying guide for the best FM antennas:
1. Impedance
Starting with one of the most important factors regarding FM antennas, you need to check its impedance rating to make sure that it is properly compatible with your FM radio. While buying an FM antenna, you will mostly find FM antennas with an impedance rating of 75 ohms. And if your FM antenna also offers the same, it can be a great option in terms of ease of use and compatibility.
2. Cable Length
If you are using an external FM antenna for your FM radio, you would want it to extend the signal range as much as possible. And to get the most out of our FM antenna, you would want to install it in the right location. Due to this, a lot of FM antennas come with an inbuilt cable for better and more effective installation.
Although, not all FM antennas have the same cable since they differ in their lengths. Even though entry-level FM antennas only offer up to 4 feet long cables, higher-end models can even come with up to 6 feet long cables which can be much more practical while installing an FM antenna in any desired location.
3. Frequency Range
While making sure that you are going with the right FM antenna that works well with your FM radio and the FM radios that you want to listen to, checking its frequency range is quite important. Regarding the same, you can find several frequency range options like 80 to 100 MHz, 90 to 120 MHz, and others. Usually, it is always a great idea to go with an FM antenna with as high of a frequency range as possible.
4. Range
Apart from checking the supported frequency range of your FM antenna, you should also check its range rating in terms of the signal strength it offers over a long distance. This is due to the reason that if you are getting an external FM antenna, it can increase the signal range by values like 10 miles, 20 miles, 50 miles, and even more depending on the FM antenna that you are going with. In either case, going with a high range is always great to have the best performance with your FM radio.
5. Warranty
Just like your FM radio, you would also want your FM antenna to last for as long as possible to ensure that it stays functional as long as your FM radio. To ensure the same, checking the warranty included with your FM antenna can be a great idea. Even though most FM antennas out there feature a 1 year long warranty, some much more reliable options can also with a 5 year warranty for much better longevity.
FAQs for the Best FM Antennas
1. How does an FM antenna connect to an FM radio?
Ans: In most cases, an FM antenna connects to your FM radio using an F type connector which is highly popular. Because of this, if your FM antenna also comes with an F type connector, then it will be great for compatibility and proper support with most FM radios.
2. Can you use an FM antenna in outdoor conditions?
Ans: In many cases, you would also want to use your FM antenna in outdoors conditions for vehicles or even your home. For the same, it is quite important to go with an FM antenna that offers sturdy enough construction for outdoors usage.
3. Will an FM antenna work with AM radio stations?
Ans: Since both FM and AM stations rely on wireless radio signals, almost all FM antennas support both FM as well as AM stations. To ensure the same, you should also check their frequency range to ensure proper compatibility with both FM and AM radio stations.
Conclusion:
As you can most likely understand by its name, an FM antenna is made to be used along with an FM radio for improving its signal strength to ensure that you get great audio quality while listening to any FM radio of your choice.

Due to frequent complaints about the quality characteristics of modern radios , which are built into music centers, you have to use additional external antennas and amplifiers.
In this case, the FM antenna for the music center comes to the rescue, and it is quite possible to make it yourself from improvised materials. The problem of poor signal reception is relevant for remote villages or when traveling.
Therefore, a self-made FM radio antenna can help the radio to work smoothly.
Important! The higher the FM antenna is placed in relation to the listener, the better the signal reception quality will be.
FM antennas for music centers – what is it
An FM radio antenna is a device designed to improve the quality of radio and broadcast reception.
The main function of such antennas is to receive a signal in cases where the desired station cannot independently receive a high-quality radio signal.
Important! Varieties of all antennas are determined by radiation patterns.
There are two types of FM antennas: active and passive. All types are characterized by a region of space where the maximum indicator of the main radiation of the received or transmitted signal is located.
Whip structures are considered passive, the active radio antenna is an improved model with a reinforcing counterweight.
Highly directional FM antennas should be singled out in a separate category – they propagate a radio signal in a strictly defined area, without scattering it in vain, and, accordingly, saving electricity.
How it works
The radio signal received at the FM antenna is amplified, received or transmitted.
In more detail, the principle of operation of the device can be explained as follows:
Radio waves in the form of an alternating electromagnetic field enter the antenna.
In response, it gives out multidirectional currents that appear due to the reception of radio waves.
Coincidences of frequencies and currents appear – the frequency of the radiation of the transmitter with an alternating field, the current on the receiver with the current on the transmitter.
If the wavelength is a multiple of the size of the antenna, a resonance appears at the receiver frequencies, which amplifies the signal, significantly improving it.
Note! Strict compliance with the antenna height and wavelength is necessary – this not only improves the signal, but allows you to accurately calculate the reception frequency.
FM Antenna Construction for Receiver
For home radio use FM antenna with frequencies from 88 to 108 megahertz on ultrashort 3 meter waves.
An indoor antenna usually consists of:
rotary devices or equipment antennas;
structures with traveling waves;
line sets.
Structurally, antennas are classified according to the radiation pattern – highly directional (narrowly directional) or circular. The bandwidth of the radio signal provides for wideband or narrowband devices.
It is worth considering that the design of the receiver can affect the quality of the signal due to certain difficulties in setting one or another type.
How to make your own FM antenna
The simplest do-it-yourself indoor antenna for a music center:
Prepare tools – copper wires, a knife, pliers.
Cut off a piece of wire suitable for winding around the main element.
Remove insulation along the entire length.
Wrap the wire around the antenna or plastic base and pick up the signal.
Reinforce the structure at the point where the correct reception works.
Note! This method is suitable for home music centers and does not guarantee high signal quality.
Homemade options
How to make a DIY radio antenna? There are quite a few different ways that are available for self-implementation at home. For example, the following options are often found:
I am making an FM antenna.
foil antenna;
rod instrument;
omnidirectional FM coaxial cable antenna;
wire construction;
tube antenna.
The process of making a homemade antenna
At the initial stage, you need to select the necessary tools, without which it will not work to make a device for fm radio on your own.
From a large number of ways, you can choose the most suitable one, taking into account your own strengths and capabilities.
Note! The manufacture of the antenna in this case is considered in one of the examples of creating high-quality antennas that can be used for any household radios.
Tools:
Solder, rosin, soldering iron and soldering flux;/.
Fine copper wire.
Dielectric base – such as chipboard sheets, boards, etc.
Fasteners – nuts, screws, screws and others.
Suitable coaxial cable and plug.
Standard hand tools.
Waterproof paint or varnish.
How to make an antenna based on the finished drawing:
The wire is given the desired shape.
Attached to a dielectric base.
Solder the cable.
The braid is connected to one end of the device, the central conductor to the other.
Connect the cable and the dipole antenna in the same way.
The instrument is stained.
After the paint has dried, the antenna is mounted on the pipe, the cable on the support.
Connect the other end of the cable to the plug and raise the antenna as high as possible.
The simplest DIY antenna for a receiver
The description describes a method for making a loop antenna. Other devices differ in shape and materials of manufacture, but the principle of operation is the same for all.
Antenna connection
The manufactured device must be raised as high as possible and directed towards the nearest large settlement.

Show seasonal allergies who’s boss
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, now is when they are at their worst. Stock up on allergy season’s most important products to keep your home, classroom, and office allergen-free. Start with an air purifier to strip the air of allergens like pollen and pet dander and replace existing air filters for improved air quality. Frequently dust, wipe down hard surfaces, and vacuum carpets and furniture to help eliminate pollen tracked in from outside and dander left behind by pets. When leaving the house, check the pollen count and bring a face mask to help filter the air you breath outside.
No matter what you do, it’s unlikely that the symptoms of seasonal allergies can be avoided entirely. Make sure to have over-the-counter cold and allergy medications on hand to battle symptoms, and stock up on facial tissues so you’ll always have one available when you need them.
Spring (Cleaning) is in the air
Spring cleaning and decluttering is a tradition meant to refresh our spaces for the year ahead. Staples has everything you need to clear out the clutter, store and organize your belongings, and all the right cleaning supplies.
Clear out the clutter
Start by preparing a checklist and make sure you have all the necessary supplies. Use storage bins and a label maker to make sorting and organizing easier. Prepare extra boxes for donations and trash bags for the things you no longer need. Look for decorative boxes & baskets that will compliment your home’s décor and use them to organize. You can also use closet organizers and storage drawers anywhere they are needed.
Start with the basics
An all-purpose cleaner, cleaning brush and microfiber cloths will clean most surfaces. Use a duster to remove unwanted dirt and furniture polish to revitalize wood surfaces. Upgrade your broom, dustpan, wet mop, and vacuum to make cleaning any type of flooring a breeze.
The nitty gritty
Spring cleaning doesn’t stop there. There’s so much you can do to reset your home:
Improve air quality and eliminate pollen and pet dander with a new air purifier and an air freshener with a scent you love.
On a sunny day, take the opportunity to clean your windows – you’ll need glass cleaner, a bucket, a squeegee, and paper towels.
Have a step stool or ladder on hand to access hard-to-reach places like the tops of cabinets and overhead lighting.
Replace broken light bulbs and check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
Use drain cleaner to clear up sink and bathtub drains.

What Customers Are Saying
Reviewers like this stove’s list of impressive features and numerous cooking options. Others are pleased with its quick-heating ability. However, some find that the clock is tough to set up.
“The dual oven with convection in the bottom is an excellent feature … The added Wi-Fi feature allows remote function for the oven. So you can, for example, preheat an oven using your phone while away. It sends alerts to your phone so you know the status of your range. Standard size that fits well in the kitchen with an over range microwave. ” —RobertC via Best Buy
“We’ve had this oven for a couple weeks now, and so far no gripes. I tend to use the top oven most of the time so far, and it works beautifully whether baking cookies or pan-roasted green beans, and it heats up fast. Not sure about the other comments about a lack of preheating; mine dings as soon as the temp gets up to what I set it to. Also, it DOES have two timers, and I’ve used them simultaneously. And they aren’t limited to just the oven, but for timing anything you need to clock.” —Macc via Best Buy
“It takes getting used to—so many buttons! But I’ve got it now. I had trouble with setting the clock.” —Sues via Best Buy

“We love it. It boils water so fast and cooks evenly. Great and easy clean up.” —Ginger10 via Best Buy
“After looking into different types of induction stove, KitchenAid is really top of the line. For the first time no more overcooking or mess, and best of all is the convection oven. The price is high, but I had a good discount at Best Buy. Also, I had to redo the kitchen walls and a new hood range.” —JoJo via Best Buy
“Looks great! The induction cooktop is super fast. Oven takes a while to preheat, but seems to bake evenly. Not sure if we will ever use the small lower oven, but it’s an option if we need it.” —MrsTimmy via Best Buy

What Customers Are Saying
This electric stove earns rave customer reviews for its variety of useful features, easy-to-see LED screen, and straightforward installation. However, some feel the glass cooktop is difficult to maintain.
“We received this range two weeks ago. The features are wonderful. The first thing we did was use the air fry feature to fix french fries. They were great. Made pasta the next night just to see if the range really did bring water to a boil quickly. Boy, did it ever. I checked the oven temp with an oven thermometer, and it was spot on. I really appreciated that after years of using an oven that never was [the right temperature]. These will be what we use most often, but I am looking forward to trying out other features, especially the dehydrator.” —AmateurChef via Samsung
“After having our new range for one week, we are in love. The keypad makes seeing the temperature and timers so easy and pain free. It definitely beats having to press an up/down button only to overshoot the target. The bread proof function has provided an even temperature without a draft for our home fresh breads. And the rapid boil feature blew my teens’ minds!” —Saeyah2 via Samsung
“Compared to other brands’ range at similar price ranges, it offers many extra functionalities such as bread proof, air fry, etc. However, the glass top is less easy to [keep] clean compared to my previous LG glass top. Also, while baking, the oven fan would start intermittently despite not being in ‘air-fry’ mode, which results in drier bread.” —Sanjuro via Samsung
Fast Facts

What we like: This stove is highly functional, has a sleek design, and comes in several premium finishes to match your kitchen aesthetic. It also includes a temperature probe that allows you to monitor your food’s doneness without opening the oven door.
What Customers Are Saying
Reviewers are particularly impressed with this stove’s smart features, air-frying capabilities, and stylish design. However, one customer feels the stove is missing a low-simmer setting on the burners.
“Although it came with a few dings on the side, everything else is top notch. The air fryer feature is nice, and the smart features work well. Heats evenly and looks great.” —Coolers via Best Buy
“The stove is absolutely beautiful. I love the double stove, saving so much time and energy, using the top smaller stove for most of our meals.” —John via Best Buy
“Great range. The only thing missing is a low simmer on the burners.” —Nette via Best Buy

What Customers Are Saying
Customers like that this stove is easy to clean and has a sleek design. They also enjoy that the stovetop elements heat quickly. Others say the drawer isn’t sturdy and are disappointed it’s not resistant to fingerprints.
“This is my first glass-top stove, and it’s taken a little bit to understand how to use it. I replaced most of my ancient cookware since their bottoms were no longer flat. I clean the top after every use with vinegar and use lower temps when I start cooking building to higher temps. So far so good. I’m pleased with this purchase.” —Vinni via Best Buy
“This stove was everything that I expected and more.” —Stove via Best Buy
“There are not many choices if you can only fit a 24-inch range in your kitchen … even fewer if you must use electricity. This was one of only approximately three models that I could select from, and I feel it’s the best one overall … As others mentioned, the bottom drawer isn’t nearly as sturdy as it could be in this price range, but it should suffice if I’m careful and don’t overload it. Lastly, the stainless steel quality isn’t the same quality is the matching Haier refrigerator, as fingerprints and marks show up much more easily than the fantastic type covering the fridge. (I have both appliances.)” —Pens66 via Best Buy
What to Look For in an Electric Stove
Depending on the brand and model, electric stoves have various features that will influence your purchasing decision. Here are some top factors to consider before choosing the best electric range for you.
Style: Electric stoves are typically either freestanding, slide-in, or drop-in. Freestanding ranges are usually installed between cabinets or can stand on their own and often include a backsplash. Slide-in electric ranges are installed between counters. Drop-in stoves, which are less popular, are usually installed on top of an existing drawer or countertop.
Size: Compact electric stoves typically range from 20 to 24 inches wide, but most stoves fall into the range of 30 to 36 inches wide and 35 to 40 inches high. It’s important to measure your space before buying a stove to ensure you’ll find one that fits your setup, especially if you have appliances such as a built-in microwave that may affect your setup space.
Capacity: The capacity of a stove refers to how much food can be placed in at once. Smaller electric stoves have a capacity of 4 to 5 cubic feet, while larger models have sizes of 6 to 7 or more cubic feet.
Power level: An electric stove’s power is measured in watts and determines how quickly and thoroughly it can cook food. Most electric stove wattages fall between 2,500 and 5,000 watts, although the individual elements all have specific wattages, which add up to the total in the stove.
Extra features: You may want to look out for extra features such as Wi-Fi capabilities or induction cooking, which helps keep the cooking surface cool as you cook. Other options include features such as broiling and air frying, as well as double electric ovens that allow you to cook multiple food items at once.
We recommend the GE Profile Freestanding Electric True Convection Range for its double oven and stylish design. We also recommend the KitchenAid Slide-In Electric Induction Convection Range for its large capacity and powerful cooking elements. The Samsung Smart Freestanding Electric Range is a solid choice if you’re looking for a more middle-of-the-road, standard model.

10 Best Electric Ranges of 2023
Gas may be the pros’ choice, and induction may be the (magnetic) wave of the future, but there’s still plenty to be said for cooking with radiant electric cooktops. Electric ranges can provide an impressively wide temperature range, consistently excellent convection, and even heating across the board. These are all great things to have if you enjoy cooking.
While the decision of which fuel to cook with might be out of your hands, you still have plenty of options when it comes to the model. And there are dozens of options to choose from. But lucky for you, we’ve tested enough electric ranges to make some strong recommendations. That includes our best overall pick, the Whirlpool WGE745C0FS
(available at Best Buy for $1,449.99)

Whirlpool
The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS is the best electric range we’ve tested.
Best Overall
Whirlpool WGE745C0FS
The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS electric range is a knockout across the board. It passed every test we threw at it with flying colors, from boiling water to baking pizza. Its ability to multitask sets it apart from other ranges. In particular, we loved having the option to bake two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously and fit at least four pots on the cooktop at once.
This range is chock-full of features, including Frozen Bake, Rapid Preheat, and Sabbath Mode. You won’t find an air fry setting, but True Convection mode will produce the same deliciously crispy results. It’s available in stainless steel, black, and white finishes, so it’s designed to match most kitchens. Regardless of the finish, we like the look of this range in particular because of the ultra-sleek smooth cooktop.
The only small downside we could find to this range was the uneven doneness of cookies when we tested True Convection mode in the bottom oven. That said, this is still the best electric range we’ve tested.
Other Electric Ranges We Tested
LG LREL6325F
The LG LREL6325F Freestanding Electric Range was our former top-performing electric range. Its cooktop is sleek, easy to clean, and features two dual-zone burners. And the average boil times for its five burners are the fastest of any electric range we’ve tested.
This oven baked cookies, pork, and pizza evenly. Plus it’s got a built-in Air Fry feature that produced perfectly crispy French fries when we tested. This smart range is Wi-Fi–capable and is compatible with LG’s ThinQ smartphone app, which allows users to control their range using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.
Frigidaire Professional PCFE3078AF
The Frigidaire Professional PCFE3078AF Electric Range has the bells and whistles you expect to see in high-end appliances.
It’s one of the top-performing ranges we’ve tested and has many bonus features, such as the true-convection oven that can also air fry. The smooth, glass cooktop surface makes cleaning a breeze. Performance-wise, this range received perfect scores in our oven tests, from roasting pork chops to baking multiple trays of cookies.
This gorgeous slide-in range is great for baking enthusiasts and has a built-in oven probe to help you monitor the food. However, it took a while to preheat and bring a pot of water to a boil. Those basics aside, serious bakers will likely find a lot to like with this appliance.
Samsung NE59J7850WS
Unlike a typical dual-oven range, the Samsung NE59J7850WS allows you to divide the 5.9-cubic-foot oven cavity in two on-demand, offering a new level of adaptability.
You can also bisect the door, but only when and if you choose. Along with the oven(s), the rangetop easily reaches searing heats or simmering lows. Whether you want to cook a Thanksgiving turkey or cook multiple meals at once, this range can fit your needs.
Cons
Uneven baking
Samsung NE59M6850SS
We love the Samsung NE59M6850SS/AA electric range with convection.
Its Flex Duo divider means it’s three ovens in one package. It can function as a large, single oven, or you can slide in the divider to convert it into two smaller ovens for baking two things at once. This model also offers Wi-Fi for remote preheat, two powerful burners, great low-heat simmering. And it boasts some of the best roasting we’ve ever tested.
Pros
Roasts food well
Fast boiling
Cons
Uneven baking
LG LSSE3027ST
The LG Studio LSSE3027ST Electric Range is a fine range in terms of performance, but it’s not the best or cheapest LG electric range we’ve tested.
The average boil time across its five burners (two dual-zone, three single-zone) was faster than our top-performing electric range, the Electrolux EI30EF45QS. We like that it has useful features like ProBake Convection, Remote Start, and ThinQ app capabilities.
Cons
Uneven baking
Slow preheat
Frigidaire Gallery FGEh4047VF
If you like to multitask in the kitchen, then you’ll love the Frigidaire FGEh4047VF. This range has five burners, the front two of which have multiple rings, and can reach temperatures well over 800°F. The oven gets hot enough to cook a pizza (at 500°F), and makes baking evenly baked cookies look like a cakewalk.
The real selling point of this range is that it comes with an Air Fry mode, which works best with the special tray that can be purchased separately. Our tests showed that the Air Fry mode worked beautifully.
GE JB655SKSS
There’s a reason why GE is the most popular brand for cooking appliances in the U.S.: It makes a solid product. The GE JB655SKSS is no exception. It does an excellent job at roasting and broiling, but it may not be the best bet for serious bakers. Our cakes came out pretty uneven.
On average, it takes the burners about 9-10 minutes to boil 6 cups of water, but the right-front burner was able to boil that amount of water in under 4 minutes, which is pretty speedy. Overall, this range is a good deal for what it does and consumers agree.
Haier QSS740BNTS
Editor’s Note: December 9, 2021
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of the Haier QSS740BNTS electric range due to a tip-over hazard.
Affected customers should contact GE for repairs. You can find more information about the recall here and check your individual model and serial numbers here.
The Haier QSS740BNTS certainly has plenty of features that will delight tech nerds everywhere. That’s assuming you don’t mind using an app to cook, as many of this range’s functions (including temperature control and a timer) are only accessible via the SmartHQ app.
But serious home cooks might want to go with a higher-performing model. This range struggled to bake cookies evenly, cook pizza all the way through, and perfectly brown pork.
GE JS645SLSS
The GE JS645SLSS Electric Range is easy on the eyes and it faired well on most of our tests, baking cookies particularly evenly.
But this 30-inch slide-in range is missing convection, so you can forget about achieving air fryer-like crispiness. This function is super basic and there’s really no reason an oven shouldn’t have it, especially one that’s over $1,000.
Pros
Sleek design
Even baking
Cons
No convection
Slow boil times
How We Tested Electric Ranges
Not only do we perform repeatable, lab-based tests on ovens, ranges, and cooktops, but we also do real-world evaluations (think: cookie baking and the like). That means we can tell you which products will perform the best, will give you the most bang for your buck, or have the sleekest looks.
Burner Temperature
For products with burners, we measure the maximum and minimum temperature of each burner to help consumers identify which burners are ideal for simmering soup, and which burner can get hot enough to properly sear a steak. We conduct these tests by using a thermocouple to measure the temperatures of empty stainless steel bases.
A range or cooktop with multiple burners that can reach very high and/or very low temperatures will score well. If burners cannot reach very high or low temperatures—or if only one burner can do each task—scores will be lower.
Time To Boil Water
One of the most common tasks for a range or cooktop is to boil a pot of water. For each burner, we take an appropriately sized pot, and fill it up halfway with distilled water. Then, we position a thermometer horizontally in the middle of the pot, and vertically in the middle of the water column. We monitor the thermocouple and record the time it takes for the temperature of the water to reach 200°F.
Because the water volume is different for varying burner sizes, we score the boil test on the rate of boiling. Faster water boiling will result in higher scores, while slower water boiling will result in lower scores.
Time To Preheat
Using a stopwatch, we measure how long it takes for the electric oven to achieve a preheating temperature of 350°F. We stop the clock when the oven’s preheat indicator beeps.
Because no one wants to wait around forever, shorter preheating times result in higher scores, while longer preheating times result in lower scores.
How Evenly The Oven Bakes
Credit:
Reviewed / Julia MacDougall
We bake cookies in both standard bake and convection mode (if available) to see how evenly the oven can bake the cookies.
One happy side effect of testing ovens is that there are always extra cookies lying around. In addition to being delicious, cookies double as a cooking/baking proxy for other thin food items, such as brownies or vegetables.
We place 12 Pillsbury ready-to-bake sugar cookie chunks on an ungreased cookie sheet in a grid formation. After preheating the oven to 350°F for 15 minutes, we place the cookie sheet in the oven on the rack recommended by the manufacturer (or, if there is no recommendation, the middle rack) to bake for 15 minutes. We remove the cookies from the oven, and allow them to cool for 2 minutes.
After looking the cookies over, we determine how evenly baked they are, both within a single baking sheet (regular baking mode and second oven baking mode) and between multiple baking sheets (convection bake mode). Because convection is generally a more efficient way of cooking or baking something, it is important that the multiple food items on different racks be cooked or baked to the same degree.
For all of our cookie tests, the more evenly baked the cookies are, the higher the score will be. If the product has a second oven and/or convection capabilities, then the cookie scores for those tests and the main oven test are weighted and combined to arrive at a final cookie score. This way, products with just a single, conventional oven are not penalized for their lack of a second oven or convection capabilities.
Overall Experience
While we go to great lengths to test the cooking/baking abilities of these cooking appliances, we also incorporate more subjective information into our overall assessment.
For example, how easily can the cooktop surface accommodate multiple pots and pans? Is there a spacious storage drawer? How easy is it to understand the control panel? We answer all of these questions and more to determine if there are any major drawbacks to the product that might not make it a good fit for most households.
What You Should Know Before Buying An Electric Range
What Is The Difference Between Convection And True Convection?
True Convection is an oven setting that includes installing an extra heating element and a fan in the oven. By adding an additional heating unit and fan that circulates the hot air, True Convection is great for ensuring that cookies or cakes baked on different racks will bake through at the same rate, rather than the cookies closest to the bottom heat source cooking faster than those on the rack higher up.
If you don’t see mention of “True Convection” or “European Convection”, but do see the word “convection” in a range’s specs, it means that the unit lacks an additional heating element, but does have a fan to circulate the hot air. While you don’t get the full baking and cooking effect that you would with True Convection, the added heat circulation can cook or bake food more evenly than it would without a fan.
There are also ranges out there that do not offer convection options at all; these ovens aren’t bad, it will just take more time to cook and bake food all the way through. If you’re a frequent baker or cook, convection can be a great time saver, but your dinners won’t suffer unduly without it.
What Is The Difference Between Slide-in And Freestanding Ranges?
In a nutshell, slide-in ranges are meant to sit flush with your countertops, while freestanding ranges are meant to sit on top of any surface.
While slotting in and sitting on top of your countertop may seem similar, the main differences between the two involve finish and ease of cleaning. Because freestanding ranges are visible from all angles, they have more finished sides; slide-in ranges are meant to have their sides hidden by the cabinetry, so the finish typically isn’t as pretty on the sides.
Additionally, because slide-in ranges sit flush with your countertop, they’re a bit easier to clean because they do not have a large lip around the edge. Freestanding ranges often have larger lips around the edge of the cooktop to corral any crumbs that would otherwise decorate your floor. Freestanding ranges also typically have a back-mounted control panel for the same reason.
While slide-in ranges will do fine in a freestanding arrangement, the reverse is less true. If your current cooking setup has the range sitting in a cabinet or countertop cutout, we recommend replacing that range with another slide-in range. Conversely, if your range stands alone in your kitchen, we’d recommend replacing it with another freestanding range to cut down on food debris spilling everywhere.
Should I Get A Front-mounted Control Panel Or Back-mounted Control Panel?
As we mentioned earlier, most freestanding ranges have back-mounted controls, but some slide-in ranges do as well.
Both arrangements have pros and cons; on the one hand, having back-mounted controls means you may have to reach over hot food to adjust the oven temperature, the controls are also far enough away that you would have difficulty hitting something on the control panel by accident.
On the other hand, front-mounted controls are easier to reach, but that convenience can turn against you if you brush up against a knob accidentally. Consider the ergonomics of using the range when it comes to picking a front- or back-mounted control panel.
How Many Burners Do I Need?
Depending on how much time you spend in the kitchen, it might be worth it to investigate in some extra options for your range. When it comes to the cooktop, anything above the standard four-burner setup is a bonus. Some ranges can have five, or even six burners; however, the more burners a range has, the more difficult it becomes to fit large pieces of cookware, such as a spaghetti pot and a frying pan, on their respective burners at the same time.
Sometimes, those extra burners are specialty burners are designed to accommodate special cookware such as a griddle or a wok; other burners are bridge burners that are meant to keep food warm without continuing to cook it.
Another possibility is to have a dual-ring burner, or a burner that includes a stronger heat source wrapped around a weaker heat source. That way, on a single burner, you can choose to use just the smaller heat source for lower temperatures, but you can add the stronger heat source if you need higher temperatures.
What Oven Features Do I Need?
As for extra oven features, they can include everything from accessories like special oven racks or a temperature probe to special cooking features.
That can include the aforementioned convection settings, fast preheat (which expedites the preheating process), bread proofing (where the oven settings are customized to activate yeast and make bread rise), steam cooking (where you pour water into a reservoir and gently cook something with the resulting steam), air fry mode (where you can expeditiously fry frozen and fresh foods, similar to an air fryer) and many more.

When you’re juggling work, family, or other priorities, cleaning can be the last thing on your mind. However, you can’t ignore the mess piling up on your rugs or carpet forever, especially since it can already be difficult to remove debris from high-pile textiles. While a traditional upright or canister vacuum requires your time and energy, a robot vacuum can automate the cleaning process and even operate when you’re not at home, which can be a huge time-saver. Although many robot vacuums struggle to move on carpet, there are a few that can do a decent job.
We’ve tested over 50 robot vacuums, and below are our recommendations for the best robot vacuums for carpet you can buy. These picks are selected not only based on their performance but also their feature set, design, and price. Check out our recommendations for the best robot vacuums, the best robotic vacuum for hardwood floors, and the best robot vacuums for pet hair. If you’re looking for a different type of vacuum for carpets, check out the best vacuums for carpets.

The Ecovacs DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI is the best robot vacuum for carpets we’ve tested. This high-end model has a dual-spectrum mapping system, with a LIDAR sensor for precise room mapping and a front-mounted camera that lets it see and avoid small obstacles like shoes or pet waste that would otherwise be missed by its LIDAR sensor. Its surface detection system enables it to automatically increase suction on carpets or avoid them when using its mopping functionality. It delivers okay performance on low-pile carpet and does a very good job of handling solid debris and pet hair on high-pile carpet. The vacuum packs an impressive array of automation capabilities too. You can schedule cleaning sessions for specific rooms, set up virtual boundary lines and no-go zones, and even set specific cleaning settings for individual areas.
The vacuum can run for over two hours in its most potent suction mode, giving it more than enough time to clean large carpeted areas, though it takes quite a while to recharge. If that’s a concern, the iRobot Roomba S9 is a great alternative and, within iRobot’s product lineup, the best Roomba for carpet we’ve tested. It also has fewer parts that need cleaning and has a larger dustbin that won’t need emptying as often. It lacks the Ecovacs’ real-time hazard avoidance capability and isn’t quite as effective at handling debris on high-pile carpet.

Check out the Roborock Q5 if you want a robot vacuum for cleaning carpeting at an upper mid-range price point. Compared to the Ecovacs DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI, it doesn’t have a secondary set of camera sensors to spot and identify obstacles in real-time. That said, provided you buy it without its self-emptying station, it’s also considerably cheaper and still delivers relatively good performance on carpeted floors, though it still struggles with fine material embedded deep within rug fibers. While build quality feels pretty sturdy overall, it isn’t the best option if you suffer from allergies, as fine particles can escape from panel gaps around its top cover.
Like most of Roborock’s other robot vacuums, it has a LIDAR sensor that allows for quick and precise room mapping. It’s capable of multi-floor mapping, and its ‘Smart Recognition’ feature lets it automatically determine which of its saved maps it’s currently working in. You can use the Mi Home companion app to set up virtual boundary lines, label different areas, and schedule cleaning sessions for specific rooms. You can also view its coverage map in 2D or 3D.

If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable robot vacuum that performs well on carpets, the yeedi vac station is worth considering. While it has a less developed suite of in-app features than the Roborock Q5 and lacks the Ecovacs DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI’s dual sensor navigation and hazard-avoidance system, it has a few features that are rare for a vacuum in this price bracket. Most notable is its self-emptying function, which allows it to transfer debris from its internal dustbin into an external dustbin mounted to its charging dock, reducing hands-on maintenance requirements. While it doesn’t have LIDAR mapping, its optical sensors still generate a permanent map of your home, so you can set up virtual boundary lines or direct the vacuum to clean specific rooms within your home.
Its surface detection system also allows it to automatically increase its suction power to its most powerful setting when it’s on carpet. It can easily climb onto high-pile rugs and delivers good overall performance on carpeting.

Consider the Neato D8 if you’re looking for a budget-friendly robot vacuum that’s effective on carpets. This robot vacuum doesn’t have the yeedi vac station’s self-emptying capability. Thankfully, it’s even cheaper, feels better built, and still does a good job of cleaning up debris on carpet. Unlike the yeedi, it also has a LIDAR mapping sensor that generates a precise map of its coverage area, so you can set up virtual boundary lines the vacuum won’t cross using the vacuum’s companion app. Unfortunately, it can occasionally get stuck around obstructions like rug tassels or electrical cords, in part due to its body’s squared-off shape.
This vacuum can recharge in under 100 minutes, which is very fast for a robot vacuum. However, it can run out of charge in as little as 40 minutes when used in its most powerful ‘Turbo’ suction mode, which can be necessary for cleaning denser carpeting, so it won’t be your first choice when cleaning extensive carpeted areas. Check out the Roborock E4 if you want an alternative with a longer runtime, but note that it has a less advanced navigation system that doesn’t store a permanent map of its coverage area. You can’t set up virtual boundary markers or direct it to clean specific rooms in your home.

If you’re looking for a well-rounded robot vacuum that can handle debris on bare floors and carpets, the Roborock S7 MaxV is an excellent, if pricey, option. While it offers okay overall performance on carpets, it doesn’t do as well as the Ecovacs DEEBOT OZMO T8 AIVI. Thankfully, it’s a fantastic option for cleaning surfaces like hardwood or tile. One of the main advantages it carries over the Ecovacs is its impressively effective ultrasonic mopping capability, which uses vibrating pads to scrub away dried-on debris instead of a purely passive system. Its other headlining feature is the combined LIDAR and optical navigation system, which functions like the Ecovacs and allows it to map out its coverage area with LIDAR and spot and avoid obstacles in real-time.
It’s compatible with Roborock’s Empty Wash Fill Dock, which empties its dustbin, washes its mop pads, and refills the onboard water tank. However, this base station is expensive and pushes this vacuum into an even higher price bracket. Although it has a high-efficiency E11 filter, it does a terrible job of sealing in fine allergens like pet dander while cleaning, which can be ejected straight out of its exhaust.

The Shark AI Ultra Robot is a self-emptying robot vacuum with a LIDAR sensor. It delivers good overall performance on carpeted surfaces but has a very clunky companion app, making for a less user-friendly experience than the Roborock Q5.
See our review
yeedi K650:
The yeedi K650 is an entry-level robot vacuum that does reasonably well on carpets. However, it has a basic navigation system and can easily get stuck on obstructions compared to the Neato D8. Its availability is also quite limited.
See our review
Roborock S7:
The Roborock S7 is a solid alternative to the Roborock S7 MaxV if you don’t want to spend as much and don’t require the MaxV’s hazard-avoidance capability. It has a less powerful suction motor and delivers inferior deep cleaning performance.

Nearly any robot vacuum can sufficiently clear a hard floor of long hairs, pet fur, crumbs, and other debris. Some are more meticulous than others, obviously, but investing in a robot vac is generally a no-brainer in homes that are all hardwood, tile, or laminate.
But if your home is mostly carpeted or covered in rugs, fewer robot vacuums can do the job (almost) as acceptably as a human wielding a Dyson might. Buying the cheapest one you can find will likely create more of a hassle every time it eats a frilly rug corner or welcomes you home to a living room still covered in pet hair because it couldn’t muster the strength to pry fur from the carpet.

Read our full review of the Roomba s9+.
Why we picked this:
In 2021, the Roomba j7+ overthrew the s9+ as the latest and greatest from iRobot. But the s9+ still does one thing better: clean thick carpets. iRobot’s D-shaped botvac reaches deep into carpets with 40 times the suction of 600 Series Roombas (the j7+ offers 10 times the suction).
After skirting the walls and corners with its flat edge, the s9+ makes a lot of passes across a room to ensure thorough cleaning. Once it takes a trip around your home and internalizes the layout, you can send it to specific rooms or specific carpeted areas that need extra attention. It also learns the more you use it, offering customized cleaning plans through the app.
Who it’s for:
The Roomba s9+ is the robot vac to trust on fully- or almost-fully carpeted floors, especially those that one or more pets shed all over. Its powerful suction and dual roller brushes dig deeper into fluffy carpet fibers where many other robot vacuums can only provide a surface-level clean.

Read our full review of the Roborock S7+.
Why we picked this:
Between strong suction, LiDAR, and mopping that doesn’t soak carpets, the Roborock S7 is already major for folks dealing with both carpet and hard floors. With its self-empty dock (a wise bundle for people with shedding pets), the S7+ is triple threat under $1,000.
You won’t have to worry about getting your carpet or rugs wet — VibraRise tech automatically lifts the mop and adjusts suction power if carpet is sensed
Roborock’s obstacle recognition can’t detect cords or pet poop. However, you shouldn’t have to babysit it otherwise. The S7+ can be trusted to find your selected zones, decipher between floor type, and get back to its dock (though its three-hour battery life should rarely die on you).
Who it’s for:
We recommend the Roborock S7 for people who’d prefer the water stains and footprints on their tile to be treated to a deeper clean than just the light wiping of a cloth.

Why we picked this:
We would say that the newest Roomba goes where no Roomba has gone before, but it’s more about where it doesn’t go. The j7+ uses a new PrecisionVision Navigation camera that helps it to avoid small obstacles that are typically blind spots, like cords and pet waste.
The j7+ isn’t the vacuum for high-pile carpets though. But its performance on low-pile (and hard floors) is reliable, especially with Dirt Detection that triggers multiple passes across serious messes. Long hair doesn’t tangle as easily in its long rubber brush rolls. It empties into a more compact auto-empty dock without sacrificing the 60-day capacity.
Who it’s for:
The Roomba Combo j7+ is the splurge for folks who don’t mind paying a little extra for a robot vacuum that doesn’t require babysitting. That could mean skipping the pre-cleaning scan for phone chargers on the floor, feeling confident that your vac won’t smear your pet’s accident across the living room, or trusting that the mop won’t dampen floors that shouldn’t be wet.

Why we picked this:
Shark has been a player in the robot vacuum game forever, but didn’t have a model that particularly stood out — until winter of 2022, that is. The latest Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 rocks improvements galore over several predecessors, adding a mop to its smartest model (plus automatic emptying, if you choose to grab the dock) without straying too far from the $300 to $600 range.
The new Matrix Clean system prompts the vac to takes several passes to ensure that no spots are missed. During regular dry vacuuming, it delivers 30% better carpet cleaning (compared to the older RV Shark models) by digging deeper into carpet and cleaning in a crosshatch pattern to loosen and grab debris from multiple angles. When a corner is detected by “Matrix” also applies to the AI Ultra’s mopping, which vibrates 100 times per minute to scrub stains.
Who it’s for:
If you typically take the “and one for good measure” approach when it comes to cleaning, you’ll appreciate the extra effort the newest Shark vacuum puts in on dirty spots, even if it has already gone over them once.

Why we picked this:
Autonomous wet and dry cleaning plus auto-emptying plus room mapping is typically a pricey checklist, running you at least $600 if you’re Roborock or Shark — or more if you’re iRobot. Yeedi, a smaller brand that specializes in affordable robot vacuums, offers that iconic trio of robotic cleaning features in its Yeedi Vac Station for as low as $300 on sale.
3,000 Pa of suction is a bold claim that’d rival the most powerful Roomba, but this Yeedi really does put in more work than you’d expect at this price point. Its performance on flat to medium pile is satisfactory, including with long hairs — we just wouldn’t trust it to make it over a fluffy rug alive.
Who it’s for:
This packed budget model is a stellar find for folks who would like to stretch no more than $300 or $400 to cover the triple threat that is room mapping, mopping, and automatic emptying. With patience for the shaky navigation and the acceptance of clearing obstacles off the floor before starting a cleaning, the Yeedi Vac Station could be a game changer.

Why we picked this:
The Wyze Robot Vacuum and its raised LiDAR scanner have a similar vibe to one of our pricier faves, the Roborock S7. The mere presence of that smart mapping tower is more than most Roombas can say. This is what unlocks the ability to send the robot vacuum to specific rooms and draw virtual boundaries — one of the most coveted features in the market as of late.
This Wyze vac doesn’t automatically crank suction on carpet, but its high power mode in general proves to be quite successful on light debris like hair and heavy debris like cereal on low and medium pile.
Who it’s for:
The lone Wyze robot vacuum will make life easier for those on a budget who prioritize the cleaning of specific rooms over suction-specific bells and whistles. If you’ve been burned by the crappy navigation tactics of a cheap robot vacuum in the past, the Wyze robot vacuum is a rare LiDAR-assisted model that doesn’t cost a lot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Any robot vacuum is unlikely to ruin your carpet. However, loose carpet strings and rugs with fringed ends are something to look out for. Bumbling bots with less accurate object sensors may gobble these right up and get stuck on them, potentially damaging your floor coverings. Folks who love a good frilly rug should consider a robot vacuum that follows virtual boundaries through smart mapping (rather than hit-or-miss physical no-go strips).
Folks in homes with combination flooring may be considering a hybrid model. Note that many budget robot vacuums do offer mopping now — but they could accidentally mop your carpets as well. To ensure that your carpets don’t get soggy, opt for a hybrid that cuts the water flow or lifts the mopping pad when soft floors are sensed.
Carpets and rugs are where pet hair, crumbs, and dust go to die, so beefy (yet methodical) suction is key for homes with a lot of stubborn floor coverings.
As a general note, upright vacuum cleaners typically have more suction power than compact robot vacs. But if you’d still prefer to outsource the job, look for a robot vacuum with at least 2,000 Pa in suction to ensure that the carpet fibers are being efficiently combed. Most modern vacuums have a boost mode that automatically kicks in when the vacuum senses carpet. The same sensors should be smart enough to facilitate a smooth transition to dark hardwood floors and *not* mistake them for a cliff.
Automatic emptying is huge for dealing with all of the gunk that should build up quickly if your robot vacuum is doing its job on your carpet. It’s especially clutch for large homes or those with pets that inherently need more cleanup, requiring more frequent dust bin emptying. Rather than you having to manually dump the bin into the garbage and wrestle wrapped hairs with your bare fingers, a self-emptying vacuum empties itself into a larger dustbin in its charging dock after each cleaning session. These larger bins can typically hold weeks of dirt without needing to be emptied themselves.
Some rooms need to be tended to more often than others. A robot vacuum with LiDAR creates an internal map of your home’s layout and can be sent to specific rooms or zones in the house, like the carpeted living room where the pets hang out or to the entryway doormat that’s covered in dirt.
Both are good, but much like the Instant Pot vs. Ninja Foodi debate, a general comparison between the two brands doesn’t work so well.
Shark’s whole lineup is generally more budget-friendly than its most direct counterpart from Roomba, offering a more affordable path to coveted features like mopping and smart room mapping. However, in between iRobot’s low-end and high-end robovacs lies a much wider range of models to choose from and features that can be tailored to your needs. Shark’s cheapest self-emptier can frequently be found on sale for less than $250, while Roomba’s cheapest self-emptier typically sits near the $300 mark on sale. Shark’s most expensive is $649.99 compared to the most expensive Roomba at $1,099.99, with a few hundred dollars’ worth of wiggle room if either is on sale.
But iRobot and Shark are hardly the only players in this group chat — Roborock, Eufy, and Yeedi pose serious competition with similarly-impressive performance and diverse pricing.

How to choose a robotic carpet cleaner?
tips
Here’s how to choose the right robotic carpet cleaner!
MYTH #1
Robot vacuums are not good for cleaning carpets.
Ekaterina:
Is it true that robotic vacuum cleaners are bad at cleaning carpets?
Okami:
It is generally accepted that the robot vacuum cleaner is not suitable for dry and wet cleaning of carpets. And with regard to a long pile (from 3 cm), this statement is absolutely correct – not a single automatic assistant on the market is physically able to overcome such an obstacle. However, taking into account the fact that the average pile length is 0.5–1.5 cm, there are devices that can handle carpets. The technique well cleans surfaces from dust, debris and pet hair, reduces the time to put the premises in order.
Basic Selection Criteria
In order for the machine you choose to work effectively for flawless short and medium pile flooring, make sure it meets the basic markers on our checklist.
The presence of a turbo brush
Devices with suction modules and side brushes, as testing shows, are not very effective in terms of pile. You will need a device with a central turbo brush or its alternative – two silicone or rubber rollers.
Climbing height
A robot vacuum cleaner with a thin body and small wheels is not able to climb floors with a pile of more than 1 cm. Look for household appliances that can cope with obstacles from 1.5 cm high.
show models with 2 cm.0020
High carpets require a vacuum cleaner with a large battery (from 2000 mAh). Units with lower performance will consume the entire supply of energy even in the first minutes of cleaning, which means that cleaning the house will be delayed. The most practical are lithium-ion batteries.
Optimum dust bin capacity
The bin capacity of carpet cleaner models can be standard. An average value of 0.6-0.7 liters is enough.
Robot vacuum cleaner dimensions
In order to clean not only exposed surfaces, but also carpet areas under cabinets, the robot vacuum cleaner must have an average height (10 cm). Wheel diameter is also important. If this parameter is less than 6.5 cm, the equipment will not be able to enter the surface.
Robot vacuum cleaner power
The greater the suction power, the more efficient the appliance can clean. High pile carpets require machines with a suction power above 45 watts. If the manufacturer does not indicate this parameter in the technical specifications, pay attention to the possibility of automatic power adjustment when working with different coatings. When switching to super power mode, the vacuum cleaner is 5 times more efficient, but this affects battery consumption: battery life is also reduced five times.
Which configuration should you choose?
The robotic carpet cleaner must be equipped with a turbo brush, a large dust container, a battery recharge station and filters. Useful will be options such as:
remote control;
charger adapter;
replacement nozzles and brushes;
virtual wall;
air and HEPA filters;
side brushes;
UV lamp.
Check that you have the instructions in Russian and the completed warranty card. It is also desirable that the selected equipment can be repaired at a service center. The price of automatic devices is high, so it is unprofitable to replace them at the first breakdown.

Does the robot vacuum cleaner drive on carpets and rugs? How does a robot vacuum cleaner clean carpets?
Are all models suitable for carpets?
What kind of carpets can the Robot Vacuum Cleaner handle?
Polaris Carpet Cleaning Technologies
Sweeping the floor, collecting dust and debris is no problem for the robot vacuum cleaner, but will it cope with carpets? There are several myths about this: that the robot vacuum cleaner cannot drive on the carpet, does not clean it, gets stuck on it. In our article, we figure out whether a robot vacuum cleaner can actually clean carpets, what functions it has for this, and how well it cleans such coatings.
Are all models suitable for carpets?
All robotic vacuum cleaners can be divided into two large groups: dry-only or wet-and-dry. It is believed that models with a wet cleaning function for carpets or rugs are not suitable because they will wet the pile and only “carry” dirt. This is wrong. On all Polaris models, the microfibre wet mop is easily removable. This allows carpets to be vacuumed automatically without the risk of getting them wet:
If only dry vacuuming is required, simply remove the attachment with the water container.
If wet cleaning is also required, divide the work cycle into two parts. Have the robot vacuum and mop hard floors first. When he is done, you can remove the wet nozzle and send him to clean the carpets.
On some models, you can leave the nozzle on and adjust the water flow through the app so that the microfiber stays dry when the vacuum cleaner travels over carpets.
In order for the Robot Cleaner to perform well on long or thick piles, the following features are important:
“passability” of the selected model;
motor power;
central brush type.
If the house has a lot of carpets, it is better to buy a device with a power reserve, with a good battery. The design of the wheels affects whether it can drive on carpets and move along them (their surface should not be smooth). Finally, the center broom should have a long enough stiff bristle to cope with the cleaning of the floor.
Even for the most powerful, “passable” models, there are limitations. The robot vacuum cleaner is not suitable for cleaning carpets with very long, rope or tangled pile. If the length of the pile is more than 3-4 cm, the device will not be able to drive on it and vacuum it.
What types of carpets can the robot vacuum clean?
The robot vacuum cleaner is suitable for cleaning almost all carpets:
Loop pile carpets, single or multi-level. With sufficient density, the height of the pile can be almost any;
carpet with any pile. If it is laid with joints, the seams must be tight, fixed;
carpets with pile up to 2-3 cm, including velor, saxony, short shaggy;
frieze (rope, twisted pile, provided that it is dense and the length does not exceed 2-3 cm).
The shorter and denser the pile, the better it will be cleaned by the vacuum cleaner. According to reviews, such devices are great for carpets, carpets, carpets with short pile.
Polaris Carpet Cleaning Technologies
Polaris robot vacuum cleaners use several technologies to help them not only drive on carpets or carpets, but also clean them well:
specially designed turbo brush;
shock-absorbing wheels;
powerful motor for efficient suction;
HEPA filter;
convenient power adjustment.
Nearly all Polaris robot vacuum cleaners can be operated in different modes. If you need to vacuum carpets or rugs, we advise you to choose a higher suction power, and then the cleaning will be of high quality. An exception is loose small rugs with a short pile (for example, doormats). With high power, the robot vacuum cleaner can simply take them away.
The turbo brush is installed in the central part of the robot vacuum cleaner.

Toy – Transformers Wiki
It’s still like this for us.
In contrast to most science fiction franchises, toys are the core of the Transformers brand, its original reason for being. Most Transformers fiction exists to showcase, spotlight, promote, and, in general, sell toys. Merchandise and other non-transforming “artifacts” also generally exist in support of the toy lines.
Transformers toys are generally created and marketed as part of a particular “franchise” (i. e. Beast Wars, Armada, the retroactively-named Generation 1 etc.), a whole merchandising family with associated characters and fiction. However, this article deals with the physical toys themselves, separate from their representation as fictional characters.
Since the brand debuted in 1984, innumerable Transformer toys have been designed, manufactured and marketed. An exact count is difficult due to the varied nature of the toys (for example, does a Headmaster robot and its partner mini-figure count as one Transformer or two? What about minor retools, variants and giftsets?). But even conservative estimates by collectors tend to run into the low thousands.

Design
Where the hell do you KEEP that enormous cannon, Megatron?
Design concepts for an unproduced Classics Deluxe class Cosmos.
Most Transformers are designed as a joint venture between Hasbro in America, and TakaraTomy (previously Takara) in Japan. Hasbro typically provides concepts and artistic direction, while Takara(Tomy) handles the engineering tasks of turning the designs into working physical objects. This division of labor is not cut-and-dried, however; the process involves a great deal of back-and-forth communication between the two companies, with staff members from both working in close conjunction and corresponding on a daily basis. The teams travel overseas several times a year to meet in person, alternating between Japan and Rhode Island. The relationship has grown closer and more intense over the years; the two companies now plan their futures together, compromising along the way to meet the differing requirements of their target markets; this includes not only toy designs, but associated storylines as well.[1]
The toy design process begins with a range of character types and possible alternate modes. In the days of Beast Wars, for example, a range of about 100 animal forms was considered.[2]
Nearly all Transformers toys have a minimum of two forms, most commonly a humanoid “robot” form and an alternate mode. This means that even a fairly simple Transformer is much more complex than the typical action figure. Multiple alternate modes, articulation, and complex transformations can multiply this many times over. TakaraTomy works out the transformation schemes; as of 2002, Takara still did this on paper. Hasbro would then overlay their detailing designs on the drawings. The entire process of taking a toy from concept to finished, mass-produced product takes approximately one year.[3]
Because of their worldwide marketing, Transformers must be designed to meet many widely-varying safety laws. This often results in certain limitations, and even changes being made before toys are sold in the highly litigious United States of America compared to their Japanese releases.

Gone are the days when the instructions said, “Flip out rear of vehicle to form legs; pull out arms. “
Transformer toys contain a “vocabulary” of working parts, joint types, and standardized design items that reappear across many figures. The vast majority are humanoid in their robot mode, and thus require a head, (at least) two arms, two legs and a torso.
The complexity of Transformers toys has grown over time, making several leaps forward during the course of Generation 2 and Beast Wars, and then again during the Movie line. G2 introduced complex posability and the notion of toys that could store or hold all of their accessories in both modes; Beast Wars made these concepts universal, and featured a number of toys with extremely complicated transformations and a maximum number of ball joints, providing a huge range of articulation. Other toy lines would revisit these levels of complexity, particularly the 2001 Robots in Disguise and Alternators lines.

Production/Manufacturing
Though the toys are designed in America and Japan through a collaborative process between Takara and Hasbro, most are manufactured in places like China.
The production process is complex and expensive. Before mass production can begin, a hard-copy prototype must be created. Steel-cut molds can then be made; this is by far the most costly part of the process. Once the molds are cut, one or more test shots are typically created, usually in random colors. If the molds are ready, mass production commences.
The expense of cutting molds is the main reason that retools and recolors are such common phenomena in Transformers. Redecos allow Hasbro and TakaraTomy to capture a greater return on their considerable investment.
To this day, the number of each Transformers toy produced and distributed at standard retail (as opposed to exclusives) remains a closely-guarded secret.

Alternators/Binaltech Tracks. The Takara version uses die-cast metal for added heft, while the Hasbro iteration is all-plastic for added being-able-to-stand-up.
The vast majority of the toys are made of plastic, held together with metal screws and pins, along with the occasional adhesive. The plastics used in Transformer construction have generally increased in flexibility and durability over the years, allowing toys to survive child-inflicted trauma that would have destroyed early Generation 1 toys.
Die-cast, used as an accessory material from 1984 to 1986, has been all but abandoned due to its excessive cost, shipping weight and design limitations, though it has reappeared in the fan-oriented Binaltech, Titanium Series, and Masterpiece sublines.

As if Transformers weren’t complicated enough, Hasbro has seen fit to revitalize and enhance the line constantly with numerous special features, commonly referred to in the fandom as gimmicks. These may range from things as simple as a common decorative theme (such as vacuum metalizing on the Transmetal toys) to complex mechanisms that drive the entire design of a toy. Gimmicks have been a part of Transformers from Day 1 and continue to provide the line with diversity and interest today.

OTFCC-exclusive Sentinel Maximus, a toy heavily slathered in paint operations.
Most Transformers are cast in a small number of plastic colors. To help bring them to life, paint, tampographs, and stickers are commonly used to provide additional color.
Stickers were common during the days of Generation 1, but have mostly dropped out of use due to changing aesthetic tastes and the feasibility of more complex paint operations. Today, faction symbols are typically applied via tampograph, with most other details brought out by paint operations.

Marketing
In the market-driven rush to production, sometimes the wires get a little crossed. This package cross-sell presents toys in color schemes that were never mass-produced. Oops!
As awesome as the toys themselves may be, they tend to sell better when they represent fictional characters. The marketing engine that promotes the toys is organized into franchises, each encompassing a range of related toys with a storyline built around them. A full-blown, flagship franchise typically features an animated cartoon, and often a comic book series as well. These fictional portrayals may also be a source of considerable income for Hasbro/TakaraTomy, but ultimately they exist to sell toys.
The toy packaging also commonly supports the marketing effort, with bios and package art of the characters, as well as cross-sell ads promoting other toys currently available. Inside the packaging, catalogs and pack-in material further market other toys.

Distribution and retail
Packaging! It’s elegant, sleek, attractive, and lasts for about five seconds.
Some toys, like Tigertrack, are exclusive to certain markets.
Once the toys are manufactured and packaged, they are shipped from their place of birth in Asia to America. As of 1998, their first destination is a Seattle distribution warehouse. From there, they proceed to the distribution centers for the various chain stores that sell the toys at retail; at that point, control of distribution is out of Hasbro’s hands. On average, it takes six to eight weeks from the time the toys ship from Hasbro to their appearance on retail shelves.[2]
Toy retailers do their best to predict what toys will and won’t sell, and order accordingly; however, it is an imperfect process, and slow sellers in one wave of toys can compel a retailer to order fewer toys from the following waves. Retailers are particularly reluctant to order large numbers from the tail-end of a toy line.[1]
Today, the largest distributors of Transformer toys in America are Walmart and Target, though the toys can also be found at many other stores such as Meijer, Kmart, Kohl’s, and Walgreens, as well as various regional grocery and drug store chains.

Secondary market
You’ll need to sell your arm, your leg and your kidney to buy this guy.
In Transformers fandom, “secondary market” refers to the buying and selling of used toys. The original, stereotypical secondary market was the old-fashioned garage sale—you know, the one where your mom sold all your G1 toys for ten bucks while you were off in college.
The secondary market among fans began with internet auctions, primarily on alt. toys.transformers in the early 1990s. By the late ’90s, ATT’s primacy as a marketplace had been supplanted by eBay and various fan-run sites. Buyers and sellers also found a bonanza of opportunities at BotCon, with thousands of toys changing hands over the course of a weekend.
Like any economic market, the secondary market has a life of its own. Older toys can be worth hundreds of dollars, depending on their condition, rarity, and popularity, or they may be worth next to nothing. Most toys from Beast Wars and later franchises tend to be of comparatively lower value, as many adult fans were buying the toys when they were at retail, and have since kept them in pristine or even unopened condition.

Transformer toys are, to put it bluntly, not meant to last forever. They are marketed to a fleeting and transitory age group, with the notion that if they survive a few years, their work is done. Thus collectors who have retained their toys for decades can find some disturbing surprises as their toys age, regardless of how carefully the toys have been stored. Among the most common problems are:
plastic discoloration — see Photodegradation
cracking of rubber tires and the rubber tubing on G1 Shockwave.
liquidy deterioration of softer rubbery plastics, such as the Pretender Monsters’ rubber Pretender shells, the nosecone on G1 Cyclonus, and the tank treads on Revenge of the Fallen Bludgeon
chrome flaking, a problem common on the Transmetal toys — see Vacuum metallizing.
embrittlement of poorly-mixed plastics that can cause a toy to disintegrate — see Gold Plastic Syndrome.
damaged stickers
acid damage from keeping batteries inside them too long; this is not a flaw unique to toys, but owners of older figures with electronics should still keep it in mind
Toys and this site
It’s a toy, sure; but is it a toy toy? In the “toy” sense of the word?
Articles on TFWiki. net classify a Transformers product as either a “toy” or “merchandise”. For our purposes, a Transformers toy is a scaled-down depiction of a character as it would exist in its fictional universe, with the details and features of the toy meant to represent that fictional character as closely as possible. This excludes many products that do not depict in-story versions of characters. For example, the Robot Powered Machines from the Revenge of the Fallen toyline are small cars with a representation of their robot mode molded into the bottom of the vehicle. It is not meant to be a toy version of a fictional character that also has their robot mode on the bottom of their vehicle; within the story, there is no character that looks like this. Such toys are listed as “merchandise” for the purposes of the wiki.
Non-transformable Transformer representations (i.e. Super Collection Figures, Power Bots, Robot Heroes, R.E.D., ULTIMATES!, Kuro Kara Kuri, and many others) are more of a grey area, especially since becoming far more abundant after 2015 or so. In nearly all cases, these items do not depict versions of a character that cannot transform; they do not match a fictional portrayal. Therefore TFWiki.net categorizes such items as “merchandise” instead of “toys.”
The main exceptions to this system – the types of non-transforming items that we do list as “toys” – are:
Action Masters, non-transforming toys representing characters that in the fictional universe are supposed to be non-transforming.
Non-transforming items packaged as accessories with transforming toys and meant to depict in-story interactions; for example, the many gun-mode inclusions of Megatron with Masterpiece toys so they can appear to hold him, or War for Cybertron Trilogy micro-figures that depict scale differences with larger characters.
Beyond toys and toy-like merchandise, TFWiki.net has never seriously attempted to catalogue the far, faaaaarrrrrr larger spectrum of Transformers merchandise available, such as clothing and apparel, stationery and school supplies, foods, party goods, etc. At this point, it would probably not be possible for us, or anyone, to do so.
Fiction
The prohibitions on “host selling” in the U.S. Children’s Television Act means that Transformers toys cannot appear in Hasbro-controlled series. Comics and prose for print and internet are exempt, as are TakaraTomy-controlled media since no such laws exist in Japan. (As we will see, crafty cartoon writers found a way around this in the U.S.)

Notable Mentions
eufy RoboVac X8:
The eufy RoboVac X8 is a robot vacuum that delivers decent performance on high-pile carpet and incurs relatively low recurring costs. However, unlike the yeedi vac station, there’s no self-emptying base station.
See our review
Shark AI Ultra Robot [AV2501AE, AV2501S, AV2511AE, RV2502AE]:

Useful will be options such as:
remote control;
charger adapter;
replacement nozzles and brushes;
virtual wall;
air and HEPA filters;
side brushes;

“passability” of the selected model;
motor power;
central brush type.
Loop pile carpets, single or multi-level. With sufficient density, the height of the pile can be almost any;
carpet with any pile. If it is laid with joints, the seams must be tight, fixed;
carpets with pile up to 2-3 cm, including velor, saxony, short shaggy;
frieze (rope, twisted pile, provided that it is dense and the length does not exceed 2-3 cm).
The shorter and denser the pile, the better it will be cleaned by the vacuum cleaner. According to reviews, such devices are great for carpets, carpets, carpets with short pile.
Polaris Carpet Cleaning Technologies
Polaris robot vacuum cleaners use several technologies to help them not only drive on carpets or carpets, but also clean them well:
specially designed turbo brush;
shock-absorbing wheels;
powerful motor for efficient suction;
HEPA filter;
convenient power adjustment.
