fully charged wireless headphones / Hi-Fi and digital sound / iXBT Live

Having discussed rather expensive wired full-size headphones, I suggest to immediately switch to the new wireless product from 1More called Sonoflow. With the stuffing, everything here is of the highest standard: a 40 mm dynamic driver, bluetooth of the fifth version, a battery for as much as 70 hours of operation, noise reduction, multipoint and, of course, support for the LDAC codec. Technically, this is, without a doubt, an absolute hit, questions remain only about the sound. That’s what we’re going to deal with today.

  • Bluetooth: v5.0

  • Frequency response: 20Hz – 40kHz
  • Impedance: 32 Ohm
  • Working time: 70 h
  • Battery capacity: 720 mAh
  • Other: Active Noise Cancellation, EQ, Multipoint
  • Weight: 250 g

Headphones arrived in a rather catchy cardboard box, which directly depicted the heroes of the review, a list of technical characteristics, as well as two Hi-Res Audio certification logos.

The kit included a very good tight box for transportation, instructions in many languages, including Russian, and two cables: a short Type C for charging the gadget and a one and a half meter AUX for using headphones in normal wired mode.

There is only one nuance here, on the one hand it is a well-known 3.5 mm jack, and on the other hand, a not so common 2.5 mm jack. So another such cable will have to be looked for.

From the characteristics of the speakers, we only know their impedance equal to 32 ohms. Unfortunately, I did not find the value of sensitivity. However, it is already clear that they are completely undemanding to the amplifying part and can even work from the analog output of your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

The headphones themselves feature a closed full-size design with a 40mm driver and a grid of compensation holes. They sit comfortably on the head, the ears practically do not sweat in them, and they weigh only 250 grams.

The headband is one-piece, with a soft layer on the inside and adjustment with tactilely pleasant mechanical clicks.

Cups have two degrees of freedom offset by approximately 45 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically, but only in one of the directions. On the plus side, I note the folding design, which noticeably saves space.

The ear pads here are moderately comfortable made of some inexpensive leatherette.

The outer part is completely plastic, like the rest of the model’s structure, except for the height adjustment element – a metal insert was visible there. All this looks very worthy, plastic, obviously, is not cheap.

Well, at the bottom we got a 2.5 mm input for using headphones as regular wired ones.

From the wireless part, there is a Type C charging port with a corresponding indication, a button for switching noise reduction modes, also with an indicator, two volume keys, they also switch tracks back and forth, two more LEDs and a power button, it also works as a pause and call answer. Everything, in my opinion, is simple and as logical as possible. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the quality of the microphone.

We are promised some fantastic 70 hours of work, which it doesn’t even make sense to check. Anything more than 24 hours is already a lot for headphones, and 70 is generally space. In terms of volume, you will definitely have a reserve of 3-4 divisions, so there is something to talk about if you suddenly need it. From the rest, there is a multipoint for two connections, support for SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs, and a bunch of settings for all this from a proprietary application.

There, I first of all updated the firmware from some earlier version to the current one, enabled support for the LDAC codec and clicked on the equalizer presets, which, by the way, you can wind up your own. Well, here is the smart testing of the headphones and the inclusion of the multipoint mode. By default, all this is programmatically disabled.

What I didn’t find is support for AptX, water protection and the proprietary Sound ID sound setup system – I really liked it. Not everyone can wind up the equalizer correctly.

I measured using a specialized Behringer ECM8000 microphone on a MOTU M4 audio interface in wired and wireless mode. In the case of a wired connection, I got a very fast, as in gaming solutions, momentum and peak distortion reaching 3%. Which is no doubt a lot.

The phase is slightly shifted, but behaves naturally, and the attenuations at 30 and 60 dB are in the lows of 80 and 98 ms, with minor disturbances.

AFC here has a relatively flat lower half of the spectrum and slowly decreasing its upper part. Quite a normal schedule, without any particularly controversial places.

The impulse of the wireless connection, although it retained its speed, but gained a more pronounced amplitude, but the distortion in the peaks fell to an insignificant 0.5%.

The phase in this case is not interesting at all, but the attenuations at 30 and 60 dB were at the minimums of 76 and 98 ms, with small perturbations in the lower part of the spectrum. That is, the outrage has increased greatly.

The frequency response, in comparison with the wired version, received a small boost on the sub-part, an amplitude doubled by 1.3 kHz and exactly the same gradual attenuation to high frequencies.

This is what it looks like on one graph. In each of the cases, as you probably noticed, there are strengths and weaknesses.

In terms of sound, if we talk about wired connection, the model did not really surprise me. The main emphasis here is on the low-frequency part of the instruments, from which we get such a solid number of resonances that drown out all. It turns out rather booming and unnatural, the vocals seem to fade into the background, freeing attention, for example, for bass guitar. In principle, there are enough details, the middle seems a little defocused, but the cymbals are in order. In total, magic obviously does not happen through the wire, and in this mode Sonoflow is no better than other Chinese headphones at this price – you can listen, but without enthusiasm and revelations. Tried different sources – nothing much has changed.

But for bluetooth, that is, using the electronics built into them, it’s a completely different story – there is not even a hint of resonances, the vocals are collected, well articulated and, more importantly, are in their rightful place. It already sounds real. The bass is a little highlighted, but it cannot be said quantitatively that there is a lot of it, which is why we get good speed performance and a very decent texture transfer. The middle is slightly warm, expressive and overly musical, it does not go into detailing much, but all the nuances are in full view. The top, unlike a wired connection, on the contrary, is slightly relegated to the background in order to remove excess brightness and sharpness and shade various sound recording artifacts. It turned out to be a comfortable sound with a bias towards melody and macro contrast. However, clarity can be well added using the LDAC codec, if you wish. With it, as usual, the drawing is better, and without it, the vocals are juicier.

In terms of style, the headphones can be called omnivorous, they have enough technicality and composure to transmit some kind of fast aggressive music, enough depth and volume for jazz or something else acoustic, as well as moderate meat and clarity for diverse electronics. What can I say, Sonoflow played the orchestral recordings so cool that I literally hung up on them. Yes, not perfect, but very impressive and as realistic as possible. All plans are perfectly drawn, everything is perfectly balanced, and the positioning of the instruments is on top. That’s what the DSP module means – right in the kings. Such a sound is certainly worthy of being talked about in the vein of audiophile headphones.

Turning on the noise reduction mode, in my opinion, slightly changes the nature of the low frequencies. Depth and volume, of course, remain, but its upper part loses mass and becomes a little airy. Not critical, but it affects the overall character of the sound. Without the ANC module, the sound is much more mature and richer. The transparency mode also does nothing good with the sound, that is, it is better to turn it all off. That’s when it will be possible to squeeze the absolute maximum out of their sound.

As a result, 1More Sonoflow full-size wireless headphones look very dignified, the pressure to the head is good, we were pleased with the folding design of the model, multipoint and some completely space battery life. Their sound over the cable was a little disappointing, I expected, of course, more, and with the noise reduction modes turned on, the sound, of course, deteriorates noticeably.

By bluetooth, this is the most effective, slightly warm sound, with good drawing of nuances, the right balance of frequencies and simply excellent transfer of the scene in depth, with the same timbre volume, good separation and excellent positioning. By bluetooth, even on the AAC codec, the model sounds simply excellent, and given their price, it’s generally brilliant. It is clear that the miracle happens only thanks to the built-in DSP module, but it happens. Very cool headphones, even to my very spoiled ear.
