from Greek. choreia – dance and grapho – I write
1) Dance record (original meaning).
2) Dance. art as a whole, in all its varieties (the meaning of the term “X.” from the end of the 19th century). H.’s art is based on musically organized, conditional, figuratively expressive movements of the human body. The beginnings of figurative expressiveness are characteristic of human plasticity in real life as well. In the way a person moves, gesticulates and plastically reacts to the actions of others, the features of his character, the structure of feelings, and the uniqueness of his personality are expressed. Such “speaking” characteristic and expressive elements born in real life are usually called plastic. intonations or motives. The origins of the figurative nature of X are rooted in them. It is based on the fact that characteristically expressive plastic. motives, relying on music, are selected from a variety of real life movements, generalized and organized according to the laws of rhythm and symmetry, ornamental pattern, decorative whole. Kh. – the art is originally synthetic, because outside the music, which enhances the expressiveness of the dances. plastics, giving her emotional and rhythmic. basis, it cannot exist. The rhythm of percussion instruments that accompanies the dances of some Eastern. and Afr. peoples, is already a kind of music. At the same time, dance is a spectacular art, where not only the temporal, but also the spatial composition of the dance, the visible appearance of the dancers (hence the role of costume, decorative design, etc.) acquires significant significance. The highest form of H. is ballet, which is at the same time a kind of muses. theater.
The art of Kh. originated in ancient times. Already in the primitive era, dance arose as a direct expression of people’s joy at the successful completion of their labor or military activities. It was based on the reproduction of the corresponding movements, originally had a religious magic. meaning, was inseparable from the rituals. In a class society, there was a division of dance into nar. and professional. Nar. dance for a long time kept in touch with labor processes, pagan and everyday rituals (pantomime dance in ancient China and ancient India, ancient Greek Dionysian games, Russian Maslenitsa games, etc.). It found expression of the feelings of the people, features of the nat. character, reflected diff. sides of his life. Gradually separating from a direct connection with labor and rituals, the dance acquired the meaning of art, embodying the beauty of the body, decomp. state of the human spirit. Already in antiquity there was a prof. dance as a spectacle similar to theatrical. From con. 16th century ballet began to take shape, first existing in the form of interludes and divertissements in opera and drama. mythological representations. character, and in the 18th century. separated into independent art. Throughout its history, Prof. Kh.’s art was based on Nar. dance, borrowed and implemented many of its elements.
Modern Kh. distinguishes between everyday dance (folk and ballroom) and stage dance (variety and ballet).
