What Printers Work With iPad Printing? | Small Business

Being able to print from your iPad is great when it comes to improving your workflow and increasing your productivity. Since there aren’t any USB ports on the iPad, you cannot connect it to a printer, which means you can only print via a printer that is Wi-Fi enabled. There is no Apple printer, unfortunately. However, there are lots of printer manufacturers, including Canon, Lexmark, and Epson, who make wireless-enabled printers that work well with Apple products.

If you’re looking to print directly from your iPad with an iPad compatible printer, then you’ll be happy to know that Apple makes it possible with their proprietary technology AirPrint which prints from your Apple device directly to a printer, so long as the printer is compatible with AirPrint. If your printer isn’t directly compatible with AirPrint, there are still third party methods that make it possible for you to print with your iPad.

Using Apple AirPrint

With AirPrint, you can easily send jobs to your printer using nothing more than a WiFi connection. On your iPad, the iOS will show you a button with the icon of a square box with an arrow pointing out of it. That is the share button and can be found in any application on the iOS that supports printing. When you tap it, you should be able to send the job to a printer, so long as that printer supports AirPrint and is connected to the same network as your iPad. The process might be slightly different, depending on the particular app you’re using.

Email

If you’re trying to print an email, you simply open the mail app and open the specific email you would like to print. If you want to print an attachment, such as a PDF file, you will have to click on it.

On the bottom of the mail, you will see a row of icons, with the left-pointing arrow coming near the end. That is the share button. Tap on it and pick the option labeled “Print.” Select the printer you would like to use and tap the button labeled “Print.”

Safari

If you’re trying to print out of the iOS browser Safari, the process is just slightly different. Open the Safari browser and navigate to the web page you are interested in. At the bottom of the bar, you will find an icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing out of it. That is the share button. Tap it and you will see a few rows of actions to choose from. There are AirDrop shares, which will only show if they’re available, then there are actions for specific apps, and then generic actions. Keep swiping across the bottom row and look for the “Print” action.

If your printer has already been identified, simply tap on it. If it hasn’t, simply tap the option “Select Printer” and choose the printer that you’d like to use for printing from the list of options. You should also be able to select the pages you want to print by swiping and deselecting the pages you don’t want to print. Once you’re done, simply tap print.

Web page to PDF

Sometimes, it makes more sense to turn the web page into a PDF and then print the web page as a PDF. This is useful as it does away with a lot of the unnecessary elements in the webpage.

To turn the web page into a PDF, tap on the share icon at the bottom of the page, swipe across the bottom-most row and tap on the option labeled “Create PDF.” A PDF will be created. Once it’s done, tap the share icon and select “Print.”

What if You Don’t Have an AirPrint Printer?

If your printer doesn’t support AirPrint, then you’re in luck so long as you have a Mac or PC computer. You can share the printer with your iPad and use AirPrint on your desktop computer.

All you have to do is connect the printer to your iMac or MacBook and then install an app that allows you to print from your iPad using AirPrint. Such apps include Print n Share, HandyPrint, Printopia, and many others.

Configure for AirPrint

Once you install these apps, make sure your Mac is configured to use AirPrint. If you want your printer to be away from your Mac, consider using an Apple AirPort base station, which allows you to have your printer anywhere in the house or office. Simply connect the printer to the base station and then print with any iOS device, so long as a third party application mentioned above is installed.

If you don’t have a printer that supports AirPrint, consider using a device that enables AirPrint printing from an iOS device, such as the Lantronix xPrintServer. Most modern printers that do not support AirPrint still offer other alternatives, so long as they have network capability. Some printers even allow printing by email. All you have to do is check the printer’s documentation.

Printers for iPad Printing

HP

HP has a variety of printers that work well with AirPrint, including the Photosmart series, the LaserJet, the Envy, and the Office Jet. These printers were all designed to work in specific situations. The LaserJet line of printers is best for the office while the inkjet printers are best for use in the home. If all you want is to print photos from your iPad, then you can consider getting either the Envy series of printers or the Photosmart series. These printers are also enabled to perform ePrinting, which allows you to print from anywhere by sending an email to your printer from your iOS device.

Epson

Epson has a few AirPrint compatible printers, including the WorkForce, WorkForce Pro, Stylus, and Artisan series of printers. All of these printers are all-in-one, which means that besides printing, you will also be able to fax and scan, all from the comfort of your iPad. You can also update the printers to be compatible with the latest AirPrint version wirelessly.

Canon

A good number of Pixma inkjet printers are compatible with AirPrint. These include a range of printers, with some being all-in-one office printers and other all-in-one photo printers. These printers do not have AirPrint enabled by default. Instead, you enable it by downloading the latest update to the firmware on the printer. Once the update is installed, the printer should be able to print wirelessly from the iPad.

Lexmark

This company offers a wide variety of printers compatible with AirPrint, each of which is designed for a different purpose. There are photo printers for home users and photographers as well as printers for business workgroups, both medium and large. You can update the printer firmware so that they are compatible with the latest version of AirPrint offered by Apple.

If you would like to know which printers are compatible with AirPrint, a list is maintained on Apple’s website. You can click on a particular brand on the list to see which models are compatible with AirPrint. Always make sure you use the latest version of AirPrint with the latest version of iOS for your printing jobs and make sure the printer is updated to be compatible with the same.

3 Ways to Print From Your iPad

There are several ways you can use your iPad to print out documents.

Sarah Tew/CNET

No matter how hard you try to avoid it, especially if you’re one of the many people who use their iPad for work or school, you’ll eventually want to print something out. Fortunately, the iPad printing situation is a lot better than it used to be. An Apple-designed system, AirPrint, works if you have the right printer — but even if you don’t, we’ve got a couple of workarounds.

AirPrint

The easiest way to print from any iOS device, including an iPad, is to use a printer that supports AirPrint. AirPrint is a technology that printer-makers can integrate into their devices, so you don’t need to install additional drivers to make your iPad “talk” to the printer.

Today, many printers come AirPrint-ready. To check if you have an AirPrint printer, or to find one to buy, check out Apple’s list here. To print a document, web page, email or anything else from your iPad, do this:

1. Connect your iPad and your printer to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Find the document, web page or email you want to print.

3. Click the share button (usually at the top or bottom of the screen) and select Print.

4. The printer name should appear. If you have more than one AirPrint printer on your network, select the desired one from the list that appears.

AirPrint alternatives

There are several software and cloud-based options if you don’t have an AirPrint printer on your network. Google Cloud Print was shut down last year, but Printopia is a popular app alternative that still works. Install the software on your MacOS computer and it allows you to print over Wi-Fi by using your Mac as a middleman, routing the file from the iPad to the printer. The handy thing is that there’s no software needed for the iPad — just install the MacOS software and select your printer to share during the setup process.

There are other programs that achieve the same thing, but this is the one we’ve successfully tested in our lab. It’s free to try and $20 to buy.

Proprietary manufacturer app

If your printer doesn’t support AirPrint, or you want greater granular control, see if your printer has its own iOS app. Brands such as HP and Lexmark have standalone apps to let you print directly from your iPad or iPhone. HP’s is the HP Smart app; Brother has the Brother Mobile Connect; Canon’s is the Canon Print Inkjet app; and Epson’s is the Epson iPrint. Note that while this guide is primarily aimed at iPad users, these apps will also work with other iOS devices such as the iPhone.

Putting an iPad inside of a printer will not print out your documents, but the steps in this guide will.

What is Apple AirPrint on iPad and iPhone?

Apple AirPrint remains the easiest way to print files and media from iPad.

AirPrint is a technology that allows users to print anything wirelessly without having to install any additional drivers or go through multiple setup screens.

AirPrint works with many of Apple’s own applications, such as Mail, Safari, Notes, Maps, and even Adobe Acrobat, among many others.

Windows programs, mobile applications, games – EVERYTHING is FREE, in our closed telegram channel – Subscribe 🙂

However, AirPrint has its own set of requirements, and the most important of them is that you must have a supported printer.

When AirPrint was originally launched, only certain HP printers were compatible. However, over time, many manufacturers have made their products compatible with AirPrint.

To see if your Apple printer supports AirPrint, visit this AirPrint-enabled devices list and find your model. You may also find a “Works with AirPrint” sticker on your printer.

How to print from iPad using AirPrint

The following steps show you how to print from iPad using AirPrint. However, before we begin, make sure your iPad and AirPrint-enabled printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This way, iPad will automatically detect your compatible printer. Once this is resolved, follow these steps:0003

1. Open the file you want to print. We will be using Adobe Acrobat (Free) to print the PDF file in this tutorial.

2. After opening the file, touch the ellipsis (three dots) icon in the upper right corner.

3. Locate and click the Print button from the drop-down menu.

You will now see a print menu with various options available. As you can see below, my AirPrint compatible printer is already detected and automatically selected on my iPad.

To select a different printer, click the Printer button and select the one you want to use. In addition, you can make other changes such as the number of copies, color options, and more.

4. After completing the settings, click the blue Print button in the upper right corner.

That’s it! The document you selected will now start printing and you can pick it up at your printer. As mentioned above, this works for most native apps, including Safari and Photos, so feel free to print any type of media from your iPad.

How to print from iPad without Airprint

Method 1: Use your printer’s official app

If your printer doesn’t support Apple AirPrint, you can still print documents and photos from your iPad, but it takes a little more work.

Most major printer manufacturers, such as HP and Canon, have apps for iPadOS. They allow their products to print documents without AirPrint support. So if you find out that your printer doesn’t come with AirPrint, download these apps and use them on your iPad.

Since the list of potential applications is extensive, we will not list them all in this article. To find out if your printer has an official app, search the App Store or read your printer’s user manual.

However, we will detail one of the applications for HP owners. Called HP Smart (Free), the app allows supported printers to print documents without AirPrint.

How to set up the HP Smart app to print from iPad

Download and install the app, then follow the steps below to print a document or photo from your iPad without AirPrint.

1. Open the HP Smart app on your iPad.

2. Click the blue Add New Printer button.

4. On the next screen, click OK to grant the app permissions to access Bluetooth and LAN for configuration.

5. You will then see your printer name on the right sidebar. Here, click once to set up the printer and you’re done!

Your HP printer is set up and ready to go. Keep reading to learn how to print documents from the app itself.

Print from iPad using the HP Smart app

The first time you select any option, the app will ask you to sign in or register. You must either sign in or create an account to continue. After logging in, do the following:

1. Open the HP Smart app on your iPad and click the View and Print tab on the bottom navigation bar.

2. Depending on the file you want to print, select All Files to access your iPad’s documents or My Photos for images. You can even link other cloud storage accounts such as Google Drive, Box, and more to access documents stored online.

3. For this tutorial, we will select the All Files option. After opening the file manager, use the sidebar to navigate to the file you want to print.

4. Click on the file when you find it and open it.

5. You will now see a preview of your document along with Print, Share and more options. Click the “Print” button at the bottom.

6. The next page is a list of options that you can customize to your liking. It includes paper size, color options, print quality, and other settings. When you’re happy with your decision, click the blue Print button.

And voila! Your documents/images will start printing from your iPad without using AirPrint technology.

Alternative method: Print from apps using HP Smart on iPad

However, if you don’t want to go through all this hassle, leave the HP Smart app open in the background. Then go to an app like Safari or Notes and select the Print with HP Smart option by clicking on the ellipsis (three dots) icon at the top. It will direct you to the same page you see in step 6 above.

While these steps are a little tedious, they are essential if you want to print something without AirPrint on your iPad. However, we have an additional method if you find that your printer does not have the official app.

Method 2: Use a third party application to print from iPad

If your printer does not support AirPrint and does not have an official app, you will need to use a third party software to print documents from your iPad.

This software will use your computer and iPad to create a bridge between your printer. It will receive print commands from your iPad to PC and send them to your printer.

To use this software, your iPad, computer, and printer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network to share.

Once this is done, you need to purchase one of the programs listed below and get started. As we said above, most of them are paid, so be prepared to shell out some money.

1. Printer Pro by Readdle

Printer Pro, available natively on iPad, makes it easy to print documents wirelessly from iPad and iPhone. You can print documents, emails, web pages, and even clipboard items. The app first installs the lite version to see if your printer will work with it or not.

Readdle Printer Pro Download (paid, $6.99)

2. HandyPrint

This software allows non-AirPrint printers to print from iPad, iPhone and even iPod. And he uses the Mac as an intermediary in the printing process. The software is free to download, but if you wish, you can support the developer with donations.

Download handyPrint for Mac (Free)

3. Printopia

This paid software costs a bit more at $19.99 but offers Mac users an easy way to print their favorite documents on non-AirPrint printers. Printopa gives you complete control over your printer and advanced settings for you to tinker with. Take advantage of the 7-day trial and see if it works for you.

Download Printopia for Mac (7-day free trial, then $19.99)

How to print from an iPad using a USB cable

iPad. You’ll also need a USB-to-Lightning cable (or USB-C cable for newer iPad Pro and Air models) to connect your iPad to the printer. To find out if your printer supports this USB connection, refer to its instruction manual.

Once the connection is established, you can print any documents or images using the Share button on the iPad. Just select the “Print” option from the list and you will see your printer exactly as described above.

Alternative Method: Transferring Documents to Your Computer

If all else fails, or if the above methods are too complicated, you may be better off printing documents in the classic way. We recommend that you select the stack of files you want to print and transfer them to your computer. You can do this by sending files by mail, uploading them to a cloud service like Google Drive, or by physically connecting your iPad to your PC.

However, the method we recommend is much easier and faster. We suggest you use the Snapdrop website, through which you can transfer files to all your devices – be it Windows or Mac. This is a web application, completely free and lightweight. Learn how to transfer files between devices using Snapdrop here.

We hope that the above methods will help you to easily print any documents from your iPad. Any suggestions for more ways to print from iPad? Let us know in the comments below!

How to connect iPhone to printer via Wi-Fi for printing

Home » Apple iPhone and iPad

Hello everyone! Today we will analyze a rather interesting, but quite popular question – how to connect an iPhone to a printer via wifi to print documents, pictures and photos. In fact, we have two ways and it all depends on the device model and how old it is. Now Apple cooperates with most firms that produce printing devices.

For quick printing, which does not require the installation of additional software, the printer must support AirPrint technology. You can see the support for this technology in the documentation. Sometimes AirPrint support is indicated on the printer itself or on the box. In extreme cases, you can go to this link and see support for your particular model.

The second way is quite banal – you just need a special application from the printer manufacturer. We will explore both options in this article. The article is suitable for all iPhone models (5, 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 7S, 8, 8S, X, XR, XS,) with any iOS system.

HELP! If you have any difficulties or questions in the process, then write them in the comments and I will help you. Just try to write as detailed and detailed as possible, since I don’t see what exactly is happening with you.
