Saucepan set cheap

Stainless steel saucepan Kelli KL-4234 – “Cheap stainless steel saucepan.

Is it worth buying?

This review of mine is dedicated to another manufacturer of economy class cookware KELLI. Using the Kelli stainless steel pot as an example, art. KL-4234 I will tell you what to look for when choosing stainless steel cookware.

In my review of the Mayer&Boch Esther saucepan, I wrote detailed instructions for choosing a stainless steel saucepan. After all, even world-famous tableware manufacturers can incorrectly reflect information, pass off shortcomings as advantages, and set a completely inhumane price for cheap dishes. Read about this my review “HOW WE ARE BROUGHT FOR MONEY” and comments on it by some employees of the manufacturing company.

So, back to our Kelli KL-4234 pot. Let’s consider it carefully. I will not repeat the instructions, I will just talk about those points that immediately catch your eye.

This is a 3.0 liter stainless steel saucepan with a heat resistant lid. It is packaged in a beautiful bright box. The box contains detailed instructions in Russian.

But the text in the instructions and on the box causes nothing but bewilderment. Judge for yourself.

What is this text about? Is stainless steel better than carbon steel? Or that good stainless steel doesn’t rust or stain? The steel grade of this pan is not indicated anywhere, therefore, it is difficult to judge its quality.

This is generally a masterpiece! The real encapsulated bottom, made in accordance with GOST, consists of a layer of aluminum with a thickness of at least 3 mm, covered from above by stainless steel of the pan bowl, and from below by a ferritic steel plate that is magnetized. It turns out only three layers in the “correct” encapsulated bottom. Such a bottom heats up evenly and does not cool for a long time. A thick layer of aluminum accumulates heat well. If you turn off the pan shortly before readiness, then the food in it will “reach” itself. Thus, we save electricity. And the ferritic steel of the bottom plate allows you to use the pan on an induction hob.

Tricks begin next. Instead of one thick layer of aluminum, you can put a layer of cheap steel between two thin layers of aluminum. It turns out five layers. Steel will add weight and solidity to the pan, and thin aluminum will still accumulate heat a little. Outwardly, such a bottom is no different from a normal one; you can recognize this setup only by sawing the pan. As a result, the manufacturer receives significant price savings, and the buyer then asks why the food burns to the bottom in the pan when stewing.

In our case, the manufacturer honestly writes that the bottom has five layers. Only he did not put any additional chrome and nickel in the bottom. Iron + Chrome + Nickel is the formula of stainless steel. Be careful if you see such an inscription on the pans.

Next, following the instructions, let’s take a closer look at the pot itself.

It is noticeable that the walls of our pan are quite thin, about 0.5 mm. or even slightly less. And so that the pan does not deform, the upper face has an additional stiffening rib in the form of an extension under the lid. Therefore, if you see a recessed lid on the pan, this should alert you. In a normal pan, the lid should be worn on top. If the wall has a thickness of 0.6 mm or more, deformation does not threaten it and it does not need additional tricks.

Another indicator of the pot’s quality is the way the handles are attached. If the pan is small in volume (up to about 5 liters), then you need to choose the one in which the handles are welded by spot welding. It’s beautiful and secure. Our pots have handles riveted with aluminum rivets. Moreover, on the inside of the rivet there are stainless steel linings. These rivets oxidize over time and are harder to care for. The pot with rivets can be washed in the dishwasher with neutral detergent and on gentle cycle.
